10 Things You Should Know About UniFi

1. This service is a 24-month contract and a termination fee of RM500 is chargeable for termination of service within the contract period.

2. If your premises reside in high rise building served via copper, you must terminate your existing Streamyx service (if any).

3. Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise. You will be responsible for providing TV and 4-socket extension cord to complete the installation. No installation appointment will be made for premises under renovation.

4. All triple play services (internet, voice and TV) must be activated during service installation. Partial service activation is not allowed.

5. UniFi is a wired broadband service. Wireless connectivity is an option and is subject to interference and obstructions factor.

6. UniFi account owner or authorised contact person must be available during the service installation. For high rise premises, owners are required to make arrangement with Building Management Office for installation permission, internal cabling and access to telecommunication room.

7. Installation fee includes external cable entrance up to the internal wiring with maximum of 15 metres for fiber cable, 15 meters for Ethernet/phone cables and 30 metres for casing (raceway). Additional charges will be applied for cable more than 15 metres and 30 metres casing (raceway) and charges will be included in your UniFi bill. See video below for optional installation charges.

8. For other non-standard installation e.g. wiring above ceiling, underground and conceal wiring, you may appoint your own contractor or deal directly with TM appointed contractor. Payment will be made directly to the contractor.

IMPORTANT NOTES (MUST READ)

Internal Wiring
Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise to allow fibre cable entrance into the house. Internal concealed wiring will not be carried out by TM. However, customers can arrange their own or choose from TM’s authorised list of contractors at their own expense. TM shall propose the recommended list of contractor for the concealed wiring (wall or ceiling). As this is beyond the job scope of RNO, customer will deal and make payment directly to the contractor. Operationally, reappointment is to be arranged when the conceal wiring is completed. Customer is required to inform TM for installation appointment.

Premise currently under renovation
During installation day, TM will not proceed if the customer premise is under renovation unless insist by customer, TM will charge customer accordingly if request for other appointment time. Customers who are having their home renovated are advised to inform TM prior setting service installation appointment. TM shall not be responsible for any damages resulted from construction and renovation done by customer through third party during or after the installation.

Customer Unreachable and Change of Appointment
Premise inaccessibility or deferment of installation appointment upon the installation team’s arrival at a customer’s premise will be subject to a charge of RM100. Re-appointment will be subject to time slot availability.

High-Rise VDSL & FTTH
For high-rise (condos, apartment, office building) ,TM would require to access the MDF/SDF room to physically activate the port which normally locked by the Building Management/Maintenance. Therefore, customers are required to communicate and make arrangement with your Building Management/Maintenance Office to ensure someone is available to grant the access to TM UniFi Installer to MDF/SDF room during the installation time. Without the access to MDF/SDF room, installation cannot be performed and TM has to revisit which will incur unnecessary cost to customer.
In the case of copper wired building that uses VDSL2 technology, successful delivery of UniFi services is subject to technical testing. TM has the right to cancel the order should the building copper wire is deemed as not passing the technical test or not ready to deliver the service.

Installation Guide

Optional Installation Charges

From making an appointment to the signing-off of the Service Acceptance Form, here is a complete step-by-step process of how we bring UniFi into your home or office:

Step 1: Appointment

Appointment is made at the point of registration. You may choose your preferred date and time for UniFi installation but please note that installation for FTTx (Fibre to the Home or Office) is expected to take between 4-8 hours, and for VDSL2, 2-3 hours.

24 hours prior to the agreed installation date and time, the TM UniFi Centre will call you for a final confirmation. Our UniFi technician will also call you just before he goes to the agreed address of installation.

Step 2: Site Assessment

Upon arrival at your home or office, our technician will brief you on the step-by-step process of the entire installation. This includes:

(i) Site assessessment (outdoor and indoor)
(ii) Cable entrance (drilling point for FTTx)
(iii) Equipment termination point
(iv) Route of wiring

In the case of FTTx installation, our technician will determine the location of the Fibre Distribution Point (FDP), whether it is located on an overhead pole, or underground. If the underground fibre access is blocked due to any home or office renovation, it may require a longer installation period than for overhead fibre access installation.

For VDSL2, site assessment is much quicker since our technician need only access the building’s MDF room and perform the necessary cabling there.
Note: VDSL2 - your existing Streamyx or Business Broadband access will be disabled during this exercise.

Step 3: Installation

It's time to complete the installation process. As part of this process, some minimal drilling may be required. After laying the cables we will determine which modem is suitable for your home. Indoor installation requires more time as our technician needs to lay the internal fibre optic cable. Cables of sufficient length will be provided. However, in cases where additional cable lengths are required, some minimal charges will be incurred. To prevent unsightly wiring, wires and cables will be housed in proper casings.

However, if you wish it to be a drill-free installation, and if the fibre optic cables are required to be pulled through your home or office ceiling, we have a panel of contractors that you can work with, the costs of which will be borne by you.

VDSL2 does not require drilling since UniFi connection will come from the existing phone jack in your home or office. For this premise type, indoor installation requires minimal setup time.

Step 4: Equipment Setup

After laying all the cables, it’s time to connect the equipment. Our technician will first set up the BTU followed by Premise Gateway, Set-top-Box (for Residential package only) and DECT Phone. Once the equipment is tested and works properly, our technician will then show you that all the services are in working order.

Step 5: Completion

You are required to sign-off a Service Acceptance Form (SAF) as part of the process to complete the installation work. For a complete understanding of what TM UniFi service is, please read the terms and conditions in your service agreement.

GENERAL WI-FI INFORMATION AND SUITABLE TURBO SPEED ROUTER & USB RECEIVER GUIDE by SilentVampire

As there have been similar questions that are constantly being asked here about Wi-Fi issues in the context of TM, this is a quick guide for those who are not familiar with wireless networking and how they work. Before I start explaining further, I will first start with the most basic equipment that are provided in a typical FTTH installation for Unifi. You will be provided with a BTU, router, a DECT phone, and a UnifiTV STB, in the initial installation.

The BTU or Broadband Termination Unit is a terminating unit from the Access Network (TM Exchange) into a customer's premise. This unit functions like a modem and translates the pulses of light that carry data over the fibre optic cables into electrical signals. The BTU can be categorized as either fit for FE or Fast Ethernet use (10 / 100 Mbps), or Gigabit use (10 / 100 / 1000 Mbps). For the turbo speed use, you would want a BTU that can support the gigabit speeds which are the Huawei HG8240 variant, or the Nokia G-240G variant, or the Alcatel Lucent I-240-G. Anything else will NOT be able to support the turbo speeds.

The router that is provided by TM for recent installations is usually TP-Link C1200 v1 (Pic), or D-Link DIR-850L (Pic), and more recently, the D-Link DIR-842 (Pic). All these router will be able to support gigabit speed (up to 1000Mbps) via WIRED connection ONLY. I highly recommend getting CAT6 cables or at a minimum, CAT5e cables, as both support gigabit speeds. Dintek or Prolink or AMP Netconnect or Ugreen RJ45 cables are quite reliable and is 100% confirmed to have original CAT5E or CAT6 rating. Wireless speeds will vary according to real-life environment and other factors.

If you are on VDSL, you will be provided with the ZTE ZXHN H267A (Pic).

The UnifiTV STB or Set-Top Box is a standard small white Android box (Pic).

Just a disclaimer, the TP-Link C1200 v1 (Pic) have MANY issues, including firmware and hardware problems, so if there are any issues with the connection and if you have this router, try changing to another router and see if your problem can be resolved. If it is resolved, then it is this particular router's issue.

For those that have been on Unifi since a long time ago, you might still be using an older router, which is either the D-Link DIR-615 (Pic) or the D-Link L7-N-R2000 (Pic), or one of the older TM generic router which are the RG-Innatech-RGX4400 (Pic), or the RG-Innatech-RG4332 (Pic), or the RG-Maritime-TRG212M (Pic), or the RG-DLINK-WBR2300 (Pic), or something older that I am unaware of. Among the older routers, the RG-Innatech-RGX4400 is the best among the lot, but still unacceptable for current modern use, as there are more newer and better options currently in the market.

If you are still using one of the six older routers above or any other older router from TM or one that you bought yourself a long time ago, which is not optimal for use in this era of gigabit speed, and you are having issues with your wired or wireless connection, it is highly recommended that you change to another modern router, and this will solve most Wi-Fi issues that you are currently experiencing, such as frequent disconnections and low speed. Refer to the list below for suitable routers.

Wi-Fi uses the IEEE802.11 family of standards. Within the 802.11 standards, are various substandards, including 802.11b (max of 11Mbps using the 2.4GHz spectrum), 802.11a (max of 54Mbps using the 5GHz spectrum), 802.11g (max of 54Mbps using the 2.4GHz spectrum), 802.11n (max of 300Mbps using the 2.4GHz spectrum, the 5GHz spectrum, or both), and the 802.11ac (max of 1.3Gbps, using the 5GHz spectrum only).

As you can see above, there are two different bands, 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz. The primary differences between the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless frequencies are range and bandwidth.

2.4 GHz offers coverage for further distances, but may perform at slower speeds. Use 20MHz channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Using 40MHz channels in the 2.4G Hz band can cause performance and reliability issues with your network, especially in the presence of other Wi-Fi networks and other 2.4 GHz devices. A 40MHz channel on 2.4GHz might also cause interference and issues with other devices that use this band, such as Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, and neighboring Wi-Fi networks.

5 GHz provides faster data rates at a shorter distance. For best performance and reliability, enable support for all channel widths on 5 GHz. This allows devices to use the largest width they support, which results in optimal performance and compatibility.

Range : how far your data can travel. In most cases, the higher the frequency of a wireless signal, the shorter its range.

The biggest reason for this is that higher frequency signals cannot penetrate solid objects like walls and floors as well as lower frequency signals. Thus, the 2.4 GHz has a farther range than the 5 GHz frequency.

Bandwidth (speed): Higher bandwidth means that files will download and upload faster, and high-bandwidth applications such as streaming video will perform much smoother and faster.

Higher frequencies allow faster transmission of data, also known as bandwidth. Therefore, the 5GHz with its higher bandwidth will provide much faster data connections than 2.4 GHz.

Suggestions for choosing the best frequency:

Many devices only use the 2.4 GHz frequency, and these devices are all attempting to use the same “radio space” which can cause overcrowding of the channels.

So, which should you choose, 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?

• If faster speeds are most important to you, 5 GHz is usually a better choice than 2.4 GHz.

• If the wireless range is more important to you, 2.4 GHz is usually a better choice than 5 GHz.

• If you have a lot of devices that use 2.4 GHz and you are experiencing interference or intermittent connectivity issues i.e. low connection speed and frequent disconnections, then 5 GHz is probably a better option.

Quick summary of write-up above:

Actual wireless speeds vary significantly from theoretical maximum speeds due to:

1) Distance - distance from the access point, as well as any physical obstructions, such as walls, signal-blocking or reflecting materials affect signal propagation and reduce speed.

2) Interference - other wireless networks and devices in the same frequency in the same area affect performance.

3) Shared bandwidth - available bandwidth is shared between all users on the same wireless network.

4) Various other overheads such as Wi-Fi protocols, and older routers with inadequate processors/memory.

---> Theoretical wireless maximum speeds along with their various 802.11 standards (combined upstream and downstream) are as follows:

802.11b - 11 Mbps (2.4 GHz)

802.11a - 54 Mbps (5 GHz)

802.11g - 54 Mbps (2.4 GHz)

802.11n - 600 Mbps (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) - 150Mbps typical for network adapters, 300Mbps, 450Mbps, and 600Mbps speeds when bonding channels with some routers.

802.11ac - 1300+Mbps (5 GHz) - newer standard that uses wider channels, QAM and spatial streams for higher throughput.

---> Actual real-life average speeds that you can expect from wireless routers within a reasonable distance, with low interference and small number of simultaneous clients:

802.11b - 2-3 Mbps downstream, up to 5-6 Mbps with some vendor-specific extensions.

802.11g - ~20 Mbps downstream.

802.11n - 40-50 Mbps typical, varying greatly depending on configuration, whether it is mixed or N-only network, the number of bonded channels, etc. Specifying a channel, and using 40 MHz channels can help achieve 70-80 Mbps with some newer routers. Up to 100 Mbps achievable with more expensive commercial equipment with 8x8 MIMO arrays, gigabit ports, etc.

802.11ac - 70-100+ Mbps typical, higher speeds (200+ Mbps) possible over short distances without many obstacles, with newer generation 802.11ac routers, and USB client adapters capable of multiple streams.

To enjoy the maximum achievable speed on WIRELESS connection, you NEED to be connected to the 5GHz AC band AND have a suitable router AND a suitable USB Wi-Fi adapter. Your USB wireless adapter needs to be connected to USB3.0 for the best speed achievable on 500Mbps and 800Mbps, as USB2.0 max out at 480Mbps but due to bus access constraints, the effective throughput of USB2.0 is limited to 280Mbps, which makes it only suitable for 300Mbps, and USB3.0 can support up to 5Gbps, which makes it suitable for both 500Mbps and 800Mbps.

Your device must also have the right MIMO specification for it to support the turbo speed on Wi-Fi. Refer to soonwai excellent guide on MIMO and Wi-Fi in the context of real-world speed: Click here to see separate thread of his guide.

To enjoy the full turbo speed on WIRED connection, you NEED to be connected to the gigabit router directly via Cat 5e or Cat 6 RJ45 Ethernet cable. Recommended brands that are reliable and 100% confirmed to fit the Cat ratings accurately are Dintek, Prolink, AMP Netconnect, and Ugreen. If your device can support gigabit speed, and you are not getting the upgraded turbo speed, there are a few reasons why this happens, see below:

1) Due to current pilot phase, TM has not upgraded your current speed to the accurate turbo speed yet.
2) Your cable might be faulty or not up to standard. Try to test with another CAT5e or CAT6 cable. See above for recommended brands.
3) Your BTU does not support gigabit speed, or is wrongly configured, and this is limiting your speed. You have to contact TM for replacement, or configuration to gigabit speed.
4) Your router does not have gigabit LAN ports, or if it does have gigabit LAN ports, it is not configured or correctly set, which limits your connection speed to 100Mbps, instead of 1000Mbps.

TURBO SPEED - SUITABLE WIRELESS ROUTER GUIDE - ALL ROUTERS LISTED HERE HAVE GIGABIT LAN PORTS

For Wi-Fi, if you are upgraded to the turbo speed, you will need to change routers to enjoy the maximum achievable speed, depending on your speeds. Please refer to the list below. All speeds listed below are the maximum Wi-Fi speed that the router can achieve. If you are connected via WIRED RJ45 CAT5E or CAT6 directly to any of the router below, you can achieve gigabit speed as all routers listed below have gigabit LAN ports.

Guys, make sure u do the speedtest with Ethernet cable

DO NOT USE WIFI

interferences or some factor can caused ur speed not reach that high and inaccurate, especially now u will have hundreds of Mbps internet connection

Even your internet speed is faster than ur Wireless if wireless got inteferences

U should only use 5Ghz Wireless AC for best possible speed, not stupid Wireless N 2.4Ghz

*
Listen to this man. Just to add, 5GHz AC requires the frequency bandwidth to be set to 80MHz, not 40MHz.

Even faster speeds help too - with 4K streaming, crazy large Windows updates and huge Steam games these days, it's good to have all the additional downstream bandwidth icon_idea.gif

It's also useful to futureproof your network too icon_idea.gif

I just don't know why people here doesn't want free speed upgrade - there's nothing wrong with a free speed upgrade. Sure some people wanted cheaper prices rather than a speed upgrade, but hey it's still a nice improvement which I can't really complain icon_idea.gif

Not all people has the ability to work with a Mikrotik router like that. If normal users already have trouble handling consumer grade home networking stuff, then you shouldn't expect people to use an enterprise one like Mikrotik tongue.gif

Of course, they could try to learn how to use one, but people these days are unwilling to do that so.... sweat.gif

Exactly. I also prefer cheaper price but if we have no choice for now, I will still take faster speed. Cheaper price can follow next. All can be done step by step.

Lol i would use a mikrotik router and host pppoe server on it haha. Let other neighbours daisychain tgt as well.

If u really want to overkill can buy ubiquiti olt smile.gif then issue neighbours second hand tm onus or new ones lol..

In sg licensing is much more flexible. Internet cafe and isp have same license smile.gif so u can resell internet however u want!

I think people here needs to know the difference between 802.11n/ac, 2.4GHz and 5GHz. You may even need a CAT5e/6 Ethernet cable to fully use the new Turbo upgrade (provided that the BTU itself and the router itself is Gigabit capable). The quality of the Ethernet cables are quite important too as there are some lower grade CAT5e/6 cables that claim to do Gigabit, but doesn't actually do Gigabit icon_idea.gif

Of course, people will put the blame to TM when the actual problem sometimes lie within your router icon_idea.gif

That being said, it should be quite nice to have a thread on networking basics. This should hopefully clear up the air on networking, and educates people on how to configure their own network, along with buying their own router that can handle the new speed icon_idea.gif

Anyone is willing to create a Google spreadsheet on the new UniFi turbo plan? I heard that some lucky folks have already received the upgrade icon_idea.gif

The spreadsheet would have the forum username, rough address, before turbo speed, after turbo speed, upgrade email received (Yes/No) and things like that. icon_idea.gif

Some additional information for those who have received the upgrade:

If you have received the upgrade, but is unable to utilize the maximum speed, make sure that the ONU(BTU, i.e. the 'modem') is capable of handling the new speed. If you are unsure about it, just ask the exact make and model of the ONU here. Some older models are not capable of handling the new turbo speed, and you will need to contact TM to upgrade the ONU for free without any contract extension or additional payment. icon_idea.gif

Must be the one that MGM has said before. Some people actually got a RYE upgrade or special upgrade which added a UniFi Ultimate Pack (which essentially covers all TV packages, and overlaps the current TV package). This causes some kind of double payment, as the Ultimate Pack has covered all the channels that the subscriber has (Aneka Plus/Ruby Plus/Varnam Plus). icon_idea.gif

So some people can remove the redundant RM30 package, and leave the RM60 Ultimate package instead icon_idea.gif

MGM is another one who got this discount too, although some people here are not so lucky, as fruitie is unable to remove the extraneous RM30 package due to it is being tied to the discount icon_idea.gif

Status for Streamyx user is double the speed, but it all depends on your infra. If you are already on 8Mbps, then it is highly unlikely you will get an upgrade.

guys previously i was 30mb then get thank you 2017 upgrade to 50mb for free
then last 2 mth they called up offer upgrade to 100mbps for additional rm20 only so i took it
little did i know, they now offer this free turbo upgrade and supposedly i'm gonna get 800mbps but.. i don't need that much use ah

any chance i can downgrade back to 30mbps/10mbps and then get the turbo upgrade? or should i wait after they upgraded then i opt for downgrade ah?

sometimes these offer can screw up our life bit lol
complicated now..

I suggest to stay on the current plan. You are paying good money for great speed, that most people are envious about.

I suspect now there will be differentiated pricing between ftth and vdsl
Cos when tm redesign the unifi website, the category is now called 'fibre broadband' with the fibre icon which is unifi *fibre home, unlike just unifi home previously. Then they also bracket streamyx for broadband..
Then why is 50mbps removed from the product landing page?

50mbps also removed from tm api
What the hell is going on?
And tm new faq say can downgrade unifi tv pack for rm10, contract 12 mths..

11. In my unifi bill, charges for Internet and unifi TV are listed separately. Does this means I can remove my unifi TV pack?
+ No. unifi TV is part of unifi’s triple play service offering ie. Internet, Voice and IPTV. As such, it is inclusive and cannot be removed

1. Can I upgrade / downgrade to the unifi Home package?
 Yes, you are able to upgrade to the higher speed package at any time.
 For downgrade request, customers who request to downgrade their package within the contract period, the current contract period will be renewed to 24 months. If customers downgrade after the contract period, there is NO penalty or contract renewal.

2. Can I downgrade to unifi VIP5 / VIP10 / VIP20 / broadband packages after subscribing to the unifi Home?
 With the introduction of unifi Home, the previous packages i.e. unifi VIP5 / VIP10 / VIP20 will no longer available. Therefore, customers will not be able to downgrade to those packages once customers have subscribed to the unifi Home.
 However, if customer wishes to downgrade to broadband packages, they can do so at the nearest TMpoint outlets

Was this a free upgrade from Streamyx to Unifi? What Streamyx package and price was it before this?

Wonder if really RM109 total or its:
30M = RM139 - 30 discount = RM109
Then add back RM30 for UnifiTV = RM139

Contention ratio fked up due to influx of turbo user
Usually for congested international peer/local peak hour congestion your line qos is somewhat proportional to subscribed speed.. turbo users probably prioritised more

Real copper Cat 5e or copper-clad aluminium Cat 5e?

LAN cable length?

Do you use QOS etc? Using QOS means you disable NAT Acceleration or NAT Boost. Bad for WAN to LAN transfer. IPv4 NAT issue.

Check the Ethernet cable - like JohnLai said, there may be a problem with the cabling icon_idea.gif

Also, did you change the link speed of your network adapter in Device Manager? It is recommended that the Ethernet link speed is set to 'Auto Negotiation' icon_idea.gif

Might be a good idea to do a driver update of your Ethernet drivers too icon_idea.gif

yesterday TM was doing maintenance on their web page, also not helping is the large influx of users wanna check their turbo upgrade, a different kind of DoS attack laugh.gif

anyway, they just updated their DB I think, my house wasn't under unifi coverage recently, and yesterday's check it's finally available, quick quick went to TM Point to apply the upgrade rclxm9.gif

Current deal: RM139 for first 2 years, 30Mbps + one HyppTV pack (compulsory doh.gif), after 2 years it will be RM199, Turbo upgrade to 300Mbps will be scheduled for next year since it's a new sub

guys previously i was 30mb then get thank you 2017 upgrade to 50mb for free
then last 2 mth they called up offer upgrade to 100mbps for additional rm20 only so i took it
little did i know, they now offer this free turbo upgrade and supposedly i'm gonna get 800mbps but.. i don't need that much use ah

any chance i can downgrade back to 30mbps/10mbps and then get the turbo upgrade? or should i wait after they upgraded then i opt for downgrade ah?

sometimes these offer can screw up our life bit lol
complicated now..
*
If not mistaken based on new T&C as advised by the TM authorised reseller said any downgrade will bond for 2 years new contract even though you are already no more contract with TM. I suggest you to call up TM to check whether this is true. I was asking this info last week because I am getting my 2nd unifi line in another house soon.

hi all,

any asus router to recommend? Budget 300-400.

My older Asus Rt n12hp model, although a stable one, is struggling after my Unifi was upgraded from 50mbps to 100mbps.

I saw this model

Asus DSL-AC52U, wireless AC750. Is this ok for future 800mbps upgrade?

This I agree. A lot of ppl still shouting of not getting the upgrade when in fact TM said the upgrade program will run until June 2019.
should upgrade speed by stages la. every one that is not 100 speed bump to 100 this month. next up to 200 & so on. if you reach your limit speed then that is your stop la. at least every one gets something extra now rather than wait forever for speed upgrade. shakehead.gif
that way also TM can assess their existing hardware cope with Malaysian Internet hunger. brows.gif

Are you previously upgraded from 10Mbps? If yes, then it's already locked in 100Mbps TURBO...
Otherwise it's your cable is NOT CAT-5e/CAT-6? or OLDER modem of BTU/Router?
Which also can caused you UP TO 100Mbps ONLY instead of 500Mbps.

hi all,

any asus router to recommend? Budget 300-400.

My older Asus Rt n12hp model, although a stable one, is struggling after my Unifi was upgraded from 50mbps to 100mbps.

I saw this model

Asus DSL-AC52U, wireless AC750.  Is this ok for future 800mbps upgrade?
*
That is DSL and it won't work for fibre. Get the TP-Link Archer C7 v4 for your budget. See here: https://shopee.com.my/TP-LINK-AC1750-Dual-B....180984.4448365

It says V2, but they will send V4 to you.

Comodo DNS or OpenDNS will work just fine. Users can still misuse though, if they bypass your DNS filtering by manually setting the DNS on their devices, or by using VPN, just to let you know.

Great firewall setting. Block VPN for certain mac address. Unless it is VPN back to home. Intact lock device to only VPN to home, so no surfing naughty while on mobile data.

Been having this problem with UnifiTV for a week now. It's just unable to load.

-Contacted TM and they mentioned there's an issue on their end and asked me to wait. -Waited 2 days, still same problem.
-Contacted again and they said they'll send a technician over.
-Technician comes over. Says other people in my area are having the same issue and they're not too sure what's causing it. They change my modem/BTU for some reason (even though there is nothing wrong with it)
-As expected, no change. Still not working. Btw, the BTU they changed to is also just a 100mbit BTU, so what's the point? It still has to be changed again for the turbo upgrade. Shouldn't they have just changed it to the gbit one now, since they're already here? Guess not
-Technician mentioned they will check on their end and get back to me. No one got back to me
-Contacted TM again yesterday to follow-up. They're unsure when it will be fixed
-Today : still nothing

So.....what should I do now?

Actually first was RM139 back to RM199 promo. Then later promo was RM139 back to RM179. Because at that time, website showed the actual price RM199 and RM179 respectively during promo time. The RM179 was when 50M was for an additional RM20 = RM199.

Now website shows RM139. This gives impression that it is actual permanent price as there is no note to say it is only for 24 months. Someone said it is only shown later in subscription process.

Before GE, received a call where they will upgrade me to 100mbps for RM199
Agreed, terms was read out to me on the phone with appointment date fixed, but technician will call me 2 days before visit to re-confirm.
Conversation was recorded at their end as I had to recite " I agree" to their terms being read through

*
Did they change the UnifiTV box? Did you check the port of the Unifi TV is set to VLAN600?

Which also can caused you UP TO 100Mbps ONLY instead of 500Mbps.

Nope, I'm 30Mbps, then upgraded to 50Mbps. Unifi Portal package is 500Mbps.

My route is Unifi Edgemax, should be sufficient.

Will check my modem/cable and provide an update !

I don't know why MOST RM139 subscribers refuse to believe the price will revert to RM199 after 24 months. They keep on saying the price will revert to RM179  doh.gif

Oh ya, what exactly happened to 50Mbps package? blink.gif

No idea why TM don't want sell it online.... but is available via resellers and TMPoint.Price vary from RM189.

They should have changed the Unifi box. It could be the box problem.

To check that the port VLAN is set correctly, go into the router and see if the cable from the Unifi box is plugged into the correct port of the router, usually port 4, that has VLAN600.

I will rather get turbo-ed speed first then only downgrade the package.

*
179 is perpetual RM 20 discount
139 is RM60 24 months discount.

As long it is not perpetual discount it will be revert to original price RM199 for 30 Mbps plan once the discount period ends.

@soonwai,

On another note, ur old thread in RGX4400 initially identified the LAN as 100Mbps but there was a question whether it was gigabit LAN. I'm seeing a gigabit negotiation at least from my laptop. Did u ever get round to confirming that it's indeed gigabit LAN?

Edit...I am not using the RGX4400 as a router but hv converted it as a switch as I got an Asus AC68U as my main router.

Yeah, I know about that. It's actually 60 days free. So only free $100 credit if one is going for a $50/mth VPS or using all of it up for other stuff. If I use milo's referral link, he gets $25. Help him pay for his server cost since he's been very generous to make that site for us to check Unifi availability, etc...

Lifetime warranty with condition I suppose. I was given a choice of paying for the new modem or extend contract. I chose the latter.

I was given two choices too. This is applicable to Phone, IPTV Box & Router only.

Home Gateway (ONU) is lifetime warranty by TM.

Never use ubiquiti before.

Ruckus unleashed AP is web based gui, it can control via normal browser, it also can be controlled via zone director hardware.

First setup is automatically become master AP, then the rest don't need to setup, just connect master AP and the rest unconfigure AP and it'll synchronize from master AP.

Take note that ruckus AP contain leashed and unleashed version, basically unleashed version is expansive than leashed version.

Unleashed - can synchronize across all model AP, not all smile.gif see manual it's state which can support. Wi-Fi ssid only 1, seamless between 2.4 n 5GHz, auto switch whichever your devices capable of.

Leashed - standalone unit. Wi-Fi ssid separated between 2.4 n 5ghz.

found some minor trick for unifi D-Link DIR-850L.

if you setup System Log E-mail Settings via router web interface, the E-mail Title you would receive at your E-mail is RG log .

if you setup System Log E-mail Settings via mydlink.com with Internet Explorer ActiveX or Firefox NPAPI Plugins, Firefox NPAPI Plugins now only still available at Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR), the E-mail Title you would receive at your E-mail is mydlink Test Mail .

if you setup System Log E-mail Settings via mydlink Lite Android App, the E-mail Title you would receive at your E-mail is Test+mail+from+Android+App .

the E-mail Title is the only different, everything else was the same.

---

another minor trick.

WPA only or WPA2 only setting,

the router web interface and mydlink Lite Android App only has WPA/WPA2 setting, but the mydlink.com with Internet Explorer ActiveX or Firefox NPAPI Plugins has WPA only or WPA2 only setting.

---

another minor trick.

this option only available via mydlink.com with Internet Explorer ActiveX or Firefox NPAPI Plugins and mydlink Lite Android App, it does not available at router web interface.

(via E-Mail)

Notify me when:

New device connected

Device failed to connect

New firmware available

all trick are perform on unifi D-Link DIR-850L, not sure about other model.

It's meaning will upgrade nationwide UNIFIers in shorter timeframe, but still depend your lucks as over 1+ millions subscribers.

the statement is VERY vague.

IMO, possible points below:
1. TM will put everything on hold for the upgrade, will start in 1st Sept
2. TM already started the upgrade, should be complete for all subscriber by 1st Sept
3. TM will continue the upgrade from now till 1st Sept as much as possible, then on 1st Sept the remaining will have a big bang upgrade
4. There's no end date to it, as the statement "will commence on 1st September 2018", it's a begin date, not an end date, end date can be 2019 or longer, god who knows

Don't get caught in the vague statement guys, the point is we have a beginning date, there's no end date, even they assure there's an end date, i doubt they will meet the dateline, u know, Msia

any recommendation for stable router ? currently using that " tabung look" DIR 850L for 30MBps and awaiting 300mbps turbo-ed. Was thinking picking up any around RM400-RM600 routers. How about ASUS RT-AC58U AC1300 performance ?

I'm not 100% sure. t I've long suspected that it's gigabit even though the manual states that it's 100Mbps. I guess since you have it, you can confirm for us.
*
@soonwai,

I tested the Innatech RGX4400H LAN to LAN speeds via iperf last night.

MacBook Air 13 via thunderbolt to gigabit adapter to Alienware 15 LAN port ( via additional 2 gigabit TPLink switches as they were physically 2 locations - possibly about 70-80m of Cat5e cabling between the 2 computers or more) and I can confirm that the average speeds were ~ 720Mbits/s. Max speeds were close to 800Mbps.

So it's definitely gigabit LAN ports. I will post this also in ur other RGX 4400H thread in case the question comes up.

After 15Aug,every night cant reach fullspeed(haven't received turbo upgrade).
I think TM network congest at night(8pm-12am) or they implement something for limit speed?
100mbps plan- only get 90-92mbps dl in last 2 night and also some video streaming website also got abit buffering issue...

this is expected service interruption due to the infra upgrade, by right is the infra is well structured, existing users should not face any problems during the upgrade period, I can see why TM infra is kinda disappointing

What about the WiFi speed of this router?

Edit: Nevermind. I found the WiFi speed. It can connect to 780Mbps.
Look like this router can support turbo-ed speed up to 500Mbps.

Paying RM159 for the Adv 50Mbps package that was a free upgrade from the previous Adv 30mbps +hypptv pack. But lately only getting half that speed 25 Mbps for dunno how long since I don't monitor the speedtest regularly.

Understand quite a lot people received Nokia ONU as a replacement. Does it act as a router or modem? Can it support POE.

I might request them to change it, if all credential possible to configure in optical modem over router. Easily for me to manage ubiquiti AP router

Yes am using WiFi. Did have my HTPC attached to it for a while but it's now a stand alone PC using a usb WiFi dongle to connect to the unifi. Speed test on my iPad only reach speeds of 25 Mbps.
I'm looking for a replacement router that will handle the turbo upgrade and that is dual band 2.4/5 GHz. Any ideas?

Phase 1 15/8 till Dec 2018
Phase 2 Jan 2019

She asked me to check my email, and the date mentioned from 15/8 so I'm under Phase 1.

Is anyone else out there under Phase 2? so that email is standard to 15/8 just to con us?

Understand quite a lot people received Nokia ONU as a replacement. Does it act as a router or modem? Can it support POE.

I might request them to change it, if all credential possible to configure in optical modem over router. Easily for me to manage ubiquiti AP router

It is not a modem, but a BTU.

If highrise FTTH will get up to x10 speed but for highrise VDSL then is up to best effort speed where depends on internal wiring condition

How big is your house and your budget? If you want something affordable, TP-Link Archer C7 v4 at least. If you have a bigger house and a bigger budget, go for Asus.

Buy a router bro. BTU cannot be router and vice versa unless the one supplied to you was modem+router. If you're using a separate devices modem and router, just buy a new router and you can use all the given ports in the router for your AP's.

I had enough router mate, my only concern is.

The ONU itself act as a modem already, I look into manufacturing configration. Defo you can configure the PPPoe inside. Then LAN 2-4 should be work by then.

If I bought any AP or Router . Just configure in AP mode and plug and play.

Modem and router is not the same term my friend. Modem have different function so does router. there are certain combo modem+routers out there (only for streamyx. however, if you receive the nokia onu, unfortunately you can't access. the ppoe can be configured inside the router, not the modem.

Just treat it as your upgrade is on 31 December 2018.
You have 136 days to the upgrade.
If they upgrade you on an earlier date, that will be a double bonus biggrin.gif

Its almost confirmed tm will use G.fast to accelerate SUBB rollout. Source: http://www.tmrnd.com.my/research-themes/access-technologies
To verify and validate the high speed digital subscriber line (VDSL2) performance at Sub-Urban Broadband (SUBB) areas and explores VDSL vectoring and gigabyte fast access to the subscriber terminal based on copper cable characteristics and network study. Gigabyte fast access sounds like G.fast to me..

Aiyooo. Penang area esp island from my observation has quite a big presence of time isp... for eg in jelutong can have condo tm dont even bother to cover unifi even though the condo mdf room like super big, used as landing point for tm, time, redtone and other mobile data isp with good dark fibre access. Why? Cos time covered that condo alr.. Tm proceeded to just cover the ground and 1st floor shop house units instead.
So i highly doubt turbo will happen in penang for anytime soon..

fuu.. he'll be in rage mode weyyyy

Haha. Just point out a possibility. If he is having turbo speed and price reduction at the same time, that will be damn lucky! The other people who don't have such privilege sure will rage. So I don't think TM would be that stupid. There must be a logical reason behind this. Compensation theory is the most logical one.

If anyone have their price reduced suddenly without any given reason, then you should probably start asking TM why they would do that for you without prior notice.

am i right to assume that if i'm getting the turbo, they'll change my fiberhome modem? i just checked my router, it says it is connected to the modem @ 100mbps only.. and i thought my fiberhome is gigabit ready.. lol

just downgraded from 50mbps to 30mbps last week...

Look at the date details. Maybe its pro-rated? Or billing date has changed when package changed? Best if its price reduction though...
