10 Things You Should Know About UniFi

1. This service is a 24- month contract and a termination fee of RM500 is chargeable for termination of service within the contract period.

2. If your premises reside in high rise building served via copper, you must terminate your existing Streamyx service (if any).

3. Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise. You will be responsible for providing TV and 4-socket extension cord to complete the installation. No installation appointment will be made for premises under renovation.

4. All triple play services (internet, voice and TV) must be activated during service installation. Partial service activation is not allowed.

5. UniFi is a wired broadband service. Wireless connectivity is an option and is subject to interference and obstructions factor.

6. UniFi account owner or authorised contact person must be available during the service installation. For high rise premises, owners are required to make arrangement with Building Management Office for installation permission, internal cabling and access to telecommunication room.

7. Installation fee includes external cable entrance up to the internal wiring with maximum of 15 metres for fiber cable, 15 meters for Ethernet/phone cables and 30 metres for casing (raceway). Additional charges will be applied for cable more than 15 metres and 30 metres casing (raceway) and charges will be included in your UniFi bill.

8. For other non-standard installation e.g. wiring above ceiling, underground and conceal wiring, you may appoint your own contractor or deal directly with TM appointed contractor. Payment will be made directly to the contractor.

9. Please provide correct and valid Billing Address / Postal Address. Select either paper bill or e-mail bill (please provide valid and preferred e-mail address). Bill is also accessible at myUniFi (https://occ.unifi.my). TM may impose a minimal monthly charge for paper bill with notification given.

10. All UniFi equipment provided by TM is subject to 12 months warranty period.

IMPORTANT NOTES (MUST READ)

Internal Wiring
Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise to allow fibre cable entrance into the house. Internal concealed wiring will not be carried out by TM. However, customers can arrange their own or choose from TM’s authorised list of contractors at their own expense. TM shall propose the recommended list of contractor for the concealed wiring (wall or ceiling). As this is beyond the job scope of RNO, customer will deal and make payment directly to the contractor. Operationally, reappointment is to be arranged when the conceal wiring is completed. Customer is required to inform TM for installation appointment.
Premise currently under renovation
During installation day, TM will not proceed if the customer premise is under renovation unless insist by customer, TM will charge customer accordingly if request for other appointment time. Customers who are having their home renovated are advised to inform TM prior setting service installation appointment. TM shall not be responsible for any damages resulted from construction and renovation done by customer through third party during or after the installation.
Customer Unreachable and Change of Appointment
Premise inaccessibility or deferment of installation appointment upon the installation team’s arrival at a customer’s premise will be subject to a charge of RM100. Re-appointment will be subject to time slot availability.
High-Rise VDSL & FTTH
For high-rise (condos, apartment, office building) ,TM would require to access the MDF/SDF room to physically activate the port which normally locked by the Building Management/Maintenance. Therefore, customers are required to communicate and make arrangement with your Building Management/Maintenance Office to ensure someone is available to grant the access to TM UniFi Installer to MDF/SDF room during the installation time. Without the access to MDF/SDF room, installation cannot be performed and TM has to revisit which will incur unnecessary cost to customer.
In the case of copper wired building that uses VDSL2 technology, successful delivery of UniFi services is subject to technical testing. TM has the right to cancel the order should the building copper wire is deemed as not passing the technical test or not ready to deliver the service.

Installation Guide
 

From making an appointment to the signing-off of the Service Acceptance Form, here is a complete step-by-step process of how we bring UniFi into your home or office.

Step 1: Appointment

Appointment is made at the point of registration. You may choose your preferred date and time for UniFi installation but please note that installation for FTTx (Fibre to the Home or Office) is expected to take between 4-8 hours, and for VDSL2, 2-3 hours.

24 hours prior to the agreed installation date and time, the TM UniFi Centre will call you for a final confirmation. Our UniFi technician will also call you just before he goes to the agreed address of installation.

Step 2: Site Assessment

Upon arrival at your home or office, our technician will brief you on the step-by-step process of the entire installation. This includes:

(i) Site assessessment (outdoor and indoor)
(ii) Cable entrance (drilling point for FTTx)
(iii) Equipment termination point
(iv) Route of wiring

In the case of FTTx installation, our technician will determine the location of the Fibre Distribution Point (FDP), whether it is located on an overhead pole, or underground. If the underground fibre access is blocked due to any home or office renovation, it may require a longer installation period than for overhead fibre access installation.

For VDSL2, site assessment is much quicker since our technician need only access the building’s MDF room and perform the necessary cabling there.
Note: VDSL2 - your existing Streamyx or Business Broadband access will be disabled during this exercise.

Step 3: Installation

It's time to complete the installation process. As part of this process, some minimal drilling may be required. After laying the cables we will determine which modem is suitable for your home. Indoor installation requires more time as our technician needs to lay the internal fibre optic cable. Cables of sufficient length will be provided. However, in cases where additional cable lengths are required, some minimal charges will be incurred. To prevent unsightly wiring, wires and cables will be housed in proper casings.

However, if you wish it to be a drill-free installation, and if the fibre optic cables are required to be pulled through your home or office ceiling, we have a panel of contractors that you can work with, the costs of which will be borne by you.

VDSL2 does not require drilling since UniFi connection will come from the existing phone jack in your home or office. For this premise type, indoor installation requires minimal setup time.

Step 4: Equipment Setup

After laying all the cables, it’s time to connect the equipment. Our technician will first set up the BTU followed by Premise Gateway, Set-top-Box (for Residential package only) and DECT Phone. Once the equipment is tested and works properly, our technician will then show you that all the services are in working order.

Step 5: Completion

You are required to sign-off a Service Acceptance Form (SAF) as part of the process to complete the installation work. For a complete understanding of what TM UniFi service is, please read the terms and conditions in your service agreement.

Upgraded from Streamyx 4MB to Unify 30MB, so far the speed is quite ok at 28MB download and 10MB upload. Finally I can stream 2160p video on YouTube.

I'll be getting Unifi early next year, and I'm deciding whether I can go for the wired option or the Wi-Fi option.

If I go for the wired option, I have to lay cables at the home, and mine's a 3-storey one which doesn't have any ethernet ports, so I'm not sure if I could run these cables all the way from the ground to the top floor.

But if I go for the wireless option, I worried that the wireless dongles I have can have drop/high latency when I game online.

Any opinions?

How to know if ur line is vdsl2 or not? and what line supporting 50/100 mbps... Unifi facebook useless, when i ask they will only kept copy paste their tnc....

It's single for now - I heard that home plug needs one full empty outlet, right? Sadly most of my electrical outlets seemed to be occupied. I might add a few ones though if all is necessary.

I would say if you plan for 100M, go for cable. homeplug or wireless may give you a headache.

2017 will be a challenging year for Unifi - lots of issues to be resolved!

No "free upgrade" for existing customers??

Mine's subscribed 30M this time - so I'll go for wired.

I'll try to speak to their agents on the wiring or pay for the wireman to lay the cable around.

I'm using home plug for my hypp tv as my router is upstairs and my tv is downstairs and I don't have empty outlet but yet it still works as I'm using Belkin multi plug high end socket adapter which is surge protector and comes with lifetime warranty.

But it will not work if you use normal extension adaptor.

Why not you get the Unifi in this month? You will get free upgrade if you apply before the end of 2016.

can just use the homeplug with AC pass-through function so that it does not occupy ur power socket.

Unfortunately it's the residential area and housing developer problem in delivering their phone poles too late. We are speaking to the agents to negotiate for that free upgrade too.

Based on the advertisement in TM website regarding free upgrade, as Malaysia’s Convergence Champion, TM is answering the Government’s call towards making broadband more accessible and affordable for all Malaysians. This will also enhance the nation’s average broadband speed.

Hence, Malaysians will now enjoy faster broadband speeds thus enabling them to do so much more. As a nation builder, TM plays a role to provide higher speeds broadband at affordable price to improve the nation’s competitiveness towards becoming a high income nation by 2020.

Customers have to be registered for the qualifying services before 31st December 2016. However, the following will criteria are also applicable:

1) The customer must not have been given a free upgrade prior to the Budget 2017 announcement (those upgraded between May – September 2016)

2) Technical and service availability.

3) Customers under UniFi Smart Partnership Package are also not eligible because they are bonded with the current developer’s contract.

Apart from that, customers do not need to register or visit any TMPoint outlet. Customer need to give consent via e-mail or SMS. Once the consent is given, the upgrade will be done automatically in phases. There will be cases where the upgrading process will be done through TM Telemarketing Centre. Customers will be enjoying the speed upgrade in phases, starting from 1st January 2017. Customers will be informed via E-mail, SMS or telephone prior to implementing the upgrade at their areas.

I'm actually curious if customer under their retention program is eligible for the upgrade or not, i myself are using 5mb unifi @129, offered at early 2015 when i finish my studies and tried to cancel the service.

yup got a call a while ago. 30mbps for RM159, may be because I am a very long time customer?

but I still reject the offer since I am on RM149 VIP5(upgraded to 10mbps). 10mbps is more than enough for me.

LOL TMnet sure is desperate to upgrade all its existing user. from RM199 to RM179 to RM169 now RM159.

I asked for the surprise email, they said just wait. So God knows until when I should wait.

got my unifi 30mbps, poor guys did it in the rain. asked them to install over ceiling, charges was to be as per the rm60 for first 10meter. my measurement was around 13meters, but they charged rm60 only. also at first they didnt install the microduct, after i called their boss they install again.

My speedtest shows 21Mbps dl and 10Mbps ul. When I download a movie, it only uses 21 - 50 KB/s from 3.2 MB/s download. Currently using google dns. Do any sifu's experienced this situation?

P/s: I only connect single device to the router.

Hi, currently paying RM242.74 for vip20 including voice plan. Some random agent offered me this vip20 at RM229 before gst introduced. Even after contract over the price still maintained.
To anyone that have discount on their plans even after contract over... if I change to adv50, does the price for the plan + voice plan still maintain or go to RM249?

based in my previous streamyx user experience, streamyx got capped on torrent download.
now im using unifi, no more capped by TM, can download full speed if ur seed is good.
now im on adv30mbps, can get more than 20-30mbps for downloads

have you tried to rebooting your router? how about youtube streaming full hd? got buffering?

Judging from your package, you must received free speed upgrade before from 5mbps to 10mbps. if yes, therefore you are not entitled for the free speed upgrade in 2017.

no issue downloading dota2 update for me. completed in less than 30mins on 30mbps plan. probably steam download region problem.

i also received the call from tm..reject the offer as well.

Hi, just registered unifi yesterday night, the guy at the counter said i will get the new tp link router but when tm center call me this morning, they said only huawei router for high rise building... Which one is correct?

i just got my self TPLink router(im high rise) still the modem is huawei..the installer said they been using TPLink since November

Equipment should have router too. If miss out, you may complaint to customer service.

How u get 10mbps for RM149? Is it offered by TM when u want to terminate?

I'm thinking of trying to terminate my unifi to get the this offer but also wondered like u if I can get the free upgrade next year.

I'm thinking of changing from unifi vip10 to maxisone 10mbps. I'm paying rm179 currently for vip10. Will be nice if can get 10mbps but pay only rm139. Will TM counter offer me to stay with unifi? Is this like their SOP or just plain luck?

Yes..i can confirm that..i also received the same call from TM yesterday.

Even when I was on streamyx 1Mbps I was downloading using torrent but only when I sleep. When I need to surf, will close the torrent manager. Took ages to download but still it works

Have been on unifi 30Mbps since Jan 2016 and still downloading torrents all the time. Difference is I can let torrent manager run at the same time I am using the computer and watching youtube videos now.
