Upgraded from Streamyx 4MB to Unify 30MB, so far the speed is quite ok at 28MB download and 10MB upload. Finally I can stream 2160p video on YouTube.

Got an email from TM stating those sign up and activated Unifi in Dec 2016 shall get free upgrade next year. Terms and conditions can refer to https://www.tm.com.my/speedupgrade/Pages/as...peedUpgrade.pdf

Seems that for those who have subscribed 2015 and prior is not entitled to this promotion. Right?

all customer who are subscribe before 2016 entitled free upgrade... except few others who already get free upgrade on middle of this year, and some people which has technical difficulties...

they just made promo for this dec and plus want to said that after budget has been tabled, you still get free upgrade even subscribed on nov/december...

For people who still wondering whether Unifi users who subscribed before Dec 2016 are eligilbled for the upgrade or not, or still assuming that the free upgrade is only for the users who subscribed In Dec 2016....etc.

With all due respect, this is totally not worth to be worried about. If the free upgrade is only limited to newest subscribers, the existing users sure will go chaos and I am sure all hell will break loose in no time. Do you think TM will go for such a stupid move?

And ya. I am sure some of you would say their T&C and FAQ doesn't mention anything about the existing customers. There's no source and news indicating that the existing users will get the free upgrade. Please la people. They did not mention it doesn't mean they will ignore the existing customers. Most likely, the T&C and FAQ will be changed once again after the Dec promotion.

Common sense people, common sense.
*
I think on this matter, common sense does not really apply here.

The promotion (for free upgrade) could be a ploy to get current subscribers to sign up for the 30mbps / 50mbps packages by 31/12/2016, so that they would be able to enjoy the upgrade. That, and to get more new subscribers to use Unifi.

It may mean that the current subscribers who opt not to upgrade their package (e.g. those who are currently using 5/10/20 mbps), would not be eligible to enjoy the upgrade.

A valid concern, considering TM has not informed/made it clear on this.

---

A case in point; the mobile packages (say, Maxis, Celcom, DiGi) that you have subscribed years ago would be less 'cool' than those offered for new subscribers. e.g. More expensive, less data plan, no free-calls to other operators. And when they roll out new packages with better perks, do they revise the package for old subscribers? No Sir, nope.

So it is only when TM comes up with statements to say that the upgrade is to be given to those subscribing prior to 2016, we shall take it as no upgrade is given.

I am currently subscribing (Since Oct'15) :
Unifi30 package (RM169) + Jumbo Pack (RM60) = RM229

Can I downgrade my HyppTV package to the free package?

RM60 is quite pricey, considering there are hardly any good channels to watch anyways.

HyppTV has now come up with 'pay for only what you want'
Link https://www.tm.com.my/hypptv/Pages/about.aspx?id=56#personal

I guess it is now okay now to subscribe to the basic package + only the channels you want.
e.g. no need to subscribe to Jumbo Pack when all you want from it is, say, RTL CBS and al-Jazeera.

Jumbo pack = RM60
RTL CBS + al-Jazeera = RM9 + RM6 = RM15

Sigh, wasn't the case. The Unifi packages comes stuck with HyppTV (i.e. subscribers must subscribe to at least 1 pack, e.g. Jumbo / Aneka / Varnam).
The ala carte thingy is to add-on to the package. e.g. Aneka + RTL CBS, Varnam + al-Jazeera.

Cis, just thought I could reduce my bills, but TM people knows better!
Summore charge RM10 for downgrade (one-off) + contract period for HyppTV to restart again.

Though I tak faham, if memang obligatory to angkat 1 package, then why bother with restarting the contract?

It is correct. but in reality u can expect a speed lower than the theoretical speed, my download does spike to 3.7MB/s sometimes but most of the time around 3.2MB/s++ (stable)

I guess, i could increase my torrent speed cap then. As my line is shared with others, I usually capped it at lower speed

My torrent speed is not as great as my DDL via IDM.
*
Of course it won't be, as torrent would depend on the seed/peer thingy.
ok now i confuse again, in terms of kB/s, what would it be for Unifi 30mbps package?

realised that uTorrent uses kB/s as measurement of speed, and math is not my forte, hahah

3750kBps lo...
That's what I was trying to say, Torrent's speed cannot be used as benchmark speed.
*
Thanks! I am now setting my torrent to capped at 2000kBps, to allow half of the bandwidth for others.
Yeah, it would not the case that torrent would go max at 2000kBps all the time, but at least this is the fastest it could go.

QUOTE(westlife @ Dec 31 2016, 10:19 PM)
seriously, based on the 30Mbps bandwidth, even u are doing torrents at maximum speed, it does not really affect web browsing or youtube at the same time at all. at least for my experience it is.

i do not even need to enable the bandwidth control on my tp-link wifi router, and it works like charm.  thumbup.gif
for utorrent, it will show as MB/s once u hit 1MB/s and above speed for your download.
TM website is down liao...  tongue.gif

Really depends on which client you are using. I am using torrent, and i were to uncheck the two criteria, it would make browsing/youtube very slow Attached Image. The 'Stop transfer on user interaction', tick/untick alos the same for me, haha
