easy on the tuna. I keep saying this but it seems like no one cares.
A better option is mackerel or pacific pilchard. http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~frf/sea-mehg.html |

Yes they sell salmon in cans, pilchard in cans (better source than tuna), mackerel in cans, sardine in cans.DESPITE the mercury is an understatement really. You have to limit them to about 3 cans a week. I can go through about 14 cans a week on a good week, just to put things into perspective. So that's more than 3x if I was taking tuna. I stopped taking fish though, not really a big fan. |

you cant absorb ...YET??.. ahhaha.. wow.... maybe when u bodybuild for few years like ur trainer than ur intestine suddenly develops additional absorbing qualities.....
dude.. ON whey.. is a protein suplement.. basically ..its protein..with a couple of added chemicals..... u are a human being...ur entire muscular system is made mainly of proteins.....i hypothesize that u CAN use ON.... the thing your trainer should have mentioned is that ON whey is expensive... and is a meal SUPPLEMENT..... so go ahead and get your daily meals stabilized then use supplements to perfect ur protein intake... |

QUOTE(ecVk @ Jul 31 2009, 11:23 AM) Isit true that ON is for bodybuilders? My trainer say that if i take it it will only be wasted because some of the ingredients i cant absorb yet. did u sense the bull sheet scent from ur trainer's mouth?Sorry for the rudeness but i dont like ppl giving false info. Jangan marah arh. Protein is protein, u eat meat u get protein there is no such thing that u cant absorb protein, if u r into weightlifting, u will need Grams/pound of of ur body weight of protein intake and to gain weight ofcoz ur calories intake needs to be taken care of. (Basically ur diet) ON protein is no magical although some of the protein may say sumthing like giving u ultimate super power muscle gain, actually eatting meat or eggs can give u the same result. Supplement just a easier way to have protein intake and as well as for its convenient. Again i apologize for any area that i have offended u. |

what's wrong with romanian deads/SLDL ? Note SLDL is not exactly stiff legged all the way, there is some give around the knee area.
Please refer instructional videos before attempting http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=112127931 Also, dynamic stretches would help. |

What Im trying to say is.... Its pointless if you wanna grow big without a lil of muscle definition, BIG is not an issure for most of use here.... I can just sit eat and train to be at 90kg... Do you want ppl to ask "which gym do you go" or do you have to tell ppl that "i go to the gym"

Why the heck would I want someone to ask which gym do I go to? if you're big and well defined (low bf in alan's case), ppl will straightly ask him, "which gym do you go ??" ... means that ppl will and easily notice that you're hitting the gym without you say a word about it...I'm just being a fecker with the all natural thing. but, if you're just big and a bit muscular (maybe like alan's physique now), ppl will not easily notice (hard to tell) wether you're hitting the gym or just naturally/genetically big and muscular...so, you might have to tell ppl that you're actually working out in a gym...lifting those irons... it's all about telling your passion in bodybuilding via your physiques...no need to talk and spread around the story of how you work you ass out in a gym... |

Well, you guys won't believe it, but I had this very famous Malay BB champion who later did adverts for Shelltox in my apartment once when I was 19. I can't recall his name. You have heard of him. Household name.
With a T-shirt on, he simply looked fat. Like bloated. |

No, not Said Fazli. I can't remember his name. This guy is long retired from BB. I'm not sure though, because I do not own a TV, avoid watching TV and avoid reading Malaysian newspapers.

Too many ads in todays media use these celebrities to carry brands. As usual, Malaysia does not know how to appreciate its sportsman and sportswomen. If you see overseas ads, many feature sports figures; ranging from clothing lines, soaps brands, shampoos, to pretty much anything under the sun. we should be proud that our fellow BBers get such acknowledgement and recognition. QUOTE(kurtkob78 @ Aug 4 2009, 07:25 AM) QUOTE Gynecomastia, pronounced /ˌɡaɪnɨkɵˈmæstiə/, is the development of abnormally large mammary glands in males resulting in breast enlargement. The term comes from the Greek γυνή gyne (stem gynaik-) meaning "woman" and μαστός mastos meaning "breast". The condition can occur physiologically in neonates (due to female hormones from the mother; this is called witches' milk), in adolescence, and in the elderly. In adolescent boys the condition is often a source of distress, but for the large majority of boys whose pubescent gynecomastia is not due to obesity, the breast development shrinks or disappears within a couple of years.[1] The causes of common gynecomastia remain uncertain, although it has generally been attributed to an imbalance of sex hormones or the tissue responsiveness to them; a root cause is rarely determined for individual cases. Breast prominence can result from hypertrophy of breast tissue, chest adipose tissue and skin, and is typically a combination. Breast prominence due solely to excessive adipose is often termed pseudogynecomastia[2] or sometimes lipomastia.[3] From wikipediaGynecomastia should be distinguished from work hypertrophy of the pectoralis muscles caused by exercise, e.g. swimming, bench press. Types of Gynecomastia There are multiple manifestations of gynecomastia. The following types have the same basic features of gynecomastia in common, namely, hypertrophy of the male breast glandular tissue, but vary in size, shape, and the extent to which they are intermixed with adipose and fibrous tissue. Puffy Nipples [1] is among the most common forms of gynecomastia. This glandular tissue accumulation is concentrated under and typically confined to the areola, or can be slightly extended outside the areola forming a dome shaped appearance to the areola. Pure Glandular (Bodybuilders) [2] Gynecomastia in bodybuilders may be a result of the use of anabolic steroids. Due to their low level of body fat, bodybuilders and other athletes are sometimes afflicted with gynecomastia in its purest form. Gynecomastia in lean men is usually only a breast tissue gland with little to no adipose tissue. Proper treatment of pure gynecomastia can be done only by excision of the breast tissue, which in the case of bodybuilders is by itself sufficient to achieve a flat nipple-areola complex. Liposuction is only rarely necessary. Adolescent [3] Congenital or Hereditary Gynecomastia is typically evident by the ages of 9 to 14 in boys. Thirty percent to sixty percent of young boys suffer from large male breasts. As many as thirty percent may live with enlarged male breasts for the rest of their lives, but in other cases the gynecomastia will recede with age. However, severe forms of adolescent gynecomastia may require an intervention, in consultation with the patient, the parents, and child development professionals. Adult [4] The most common form of gynecomastia. Gynecomastia in most adults is composed of glandular tissue but may contain varying quantities of adipose and fibrous tissue. Pseudogynecomastia [5] is composed not of glandular tissue, but of adipose tissue. It looks much like real gynecomastia but requires different treatment. Exercise and diet may be effective in combating pseudogynecomastia. Only if this regimen is unsuccessful should surgery be considered. This is generally the only type of gynecomastia which can be improved with liposuction, but excision may be indicated in some cases. Asymmetric/Unilateral [6] Unilateral gynecomastia occurs when only one breast is larger due to gynecomastia, the other breast is typically normal in both size and shape. Bilateral Asymmetry occurs when gynecomastia is present in both breasts, each to a different degree. Severe Gynecomastia [7] is characterized by excess and/or saggy skin and severely enlaged breasts . This is itself determined in part by age, as older persons suffering from gynecomastia tend to have less skin elasticity and thus will have a greater abundance of excess skin related to gynecomastia. Experienced plastic surgeons will perform as much of the surgical treatment of severe gynecomastia as possible through an aereolar incision so as to avoid extensive scarring. However, some scarring may be unavoidable when treating extreme cases of gynecomastia Treatment Treating the underlying cause of the gynecomastia may lead to improvement in the condition. Patients should talk with their doctor about revising any medications, such as risperdal, that are found to be causing gynecomastia; often, an alternative medication can be found that avoids gynecomastia side-effects, while still treating the primary condition for which the original medication was found not to be suitable due to causing gynecomastia side-effects (e.g., in place of taking spironolactone the alternative eplerenone can be used.) Selective estrogen receptor modulator medications, such as tamoxifen and clomiphene, or androgens (typically bio-identical testosterone) or aromatase inhibitors such as Letrozole are medical treatment options, although they are not universally approved for the treatment of gynecomastia. Endocrinological attention may help during the first 2–3 years. After that window, however, the breast tissue tends to remain and harden, leaving surgery (either liposuction, gland excision, skin sculpture, reduction mammoplasty, or a combination of these surgical techniques) the only treatment option. Many American insurance companies deny coverage for surgery for gynecomastia treatment on the grounds that it is a cosmetic procedure. Radiation therapy is sometimes used to prevent gynecomastia in patients with prostate cancer prior to estrogen therapy. Compression garments can camouflage chest deformity and stabilize bouncing tissue bringing emotional relief to some. There are also those who choose to live with the condition. You know, I never realized that gynecomastia could only occur on one pectoral and not the other. Huh.

You sure it's gynecomastia? Coz gynecomastia will look like a real boob which hangs or puffy nipples. I think it's a congenital defect of the pectoralis major muscle since it looks solid and arising from the muscle.
Anyway, has anyone here experienced pain and the small joints on the fingers, wrist and knee? There was tenderness and reddnening of the 4th proximal interphalangeal joint of my left hand 2 days ago, which subsided 1 day ago and today there's tenderness on the left 1st interphalangeal joint of my left hand and left knee. I have been having on and off tenderness and reddening of my left and right 1st interphalangeal joint for the past 3 years which always subside after an acute episode of pain lasting for 1 to 2 days without medication. There's restriction of mobility of the joint during the episode. There's no deformity of the hand and feet joints. Could it be gout? This post has been edited by Florian: Aug 5 2009, 12:20 AM |

why allopurinol?
wouldn't you take probenecid because allopurinol is a xanthine oxidase inhibtor and only 10% of the patients are 'overproducting" uric acid. The remaining 90% would benefit from probenecid. See a doctor to assess whether it's gout. Unlikely that you have it so young unless you're genetically predisposed to it. |

I see it now, probenecid is not without side effects, so allopurinol is preferred as first line.

Finally broke the 100kg mark for deadlift. Pulled 102kg for 1RM today!
My back seems to be progressing quite decently in terms of thickness and a bit of detail. Wish I could say the same for my front. [attachmentid=1125647] This post has been edited by -Dan: Aug 8 2009, 04:08 PM |

Florian you have huge arms and shoulders. Nice
Btw, when you put on a tight shirt, is your nipple-shape visible from the outside? I have a pointy chest and that's what happens when I put on a shirt tighter than normal. Anyone here like that? |

QUOTE(uhuk-uhuk @ Aug 11 2009, 11:42 AM) Florian you have huge arms and shoulders. Nice ThanksBtw, when you put on a tight shirt, is your nipple-shape visible from the outside? I have a pointy chest and that's what happens when I put on a shirt tighter than normal. Anyone here like that? No need tight shirt, normal XL T shirt also can see. Maybe it's because I'm fat. I don't remember having that problem 4 years ago when I was like 59kg. Need to lose that fat but how??? I only know how to bulk. But beneath my nipple is just soft and when I squeeze it it's nothing inside and I can feel the chest muscle right beneath it, so I'm confused whether it's gynecomastia or not coz in gynecomastia underneath the nipple will have a round mass inside. I'm pretty upset with it. QUOTE(-Dan @ Aug 11 2009, 12:14 PM) Thanks.I've only been doing side DB shrugs for the past 3+ years on shoulder and/or chest days. Now I just started to change it to back DB shrugs because my gym has only 50lbs DBs and I need a burn on my traps. Need to hold long for shrugs. A lot of people doing it wrongly by doing it fast and rotating the shoulder while shruging. For shrugs just lift your shoulders hold, then slowly go down, like when you're doing "I don't know" sign. QUOTE(uhuk-uhuk @ Aug 11 2009, 11:42 AM) Florian you have huge arms and shoulders. Nice put a bodyfit shirt then, if small loose shirt of coz can see...lolll....very tight shirt will press "it" down...lolBtw, when you put on a tight shirt, is your nipple-shape visible from the outside? I have a pointy chest and that's what happens when I put on a shirt tighter than normal. Anyone here like that? QUOTE(Florian @ Aug 11 2009, 01:28 PM) Thanks puffy nipples also a sign of gyno, no need steroid use also can cause gyno, from foods, from increase of BF level also.No need tight shirt, normal XL T shirt also can see. Maybe it's because I'm fat. I don't remember having that problem 4 years ago when I was like 59kg. Need to lose that fat but how??? I only know how to bulk. Yeah, my neck was awkwardly long before I started training. It looked like those ladies in Chiangmai with those rings on their neck. Maybe my trapezius muscle has a higher attachment. |

QUOTE(diablokun @ Aug 11 2009, 02:12 AM) ON & Scivation Whey was ok ... minimal to moderate heatyness..and the results was also . ok ok only.. But for Nitrotech.. .. that 3 months brought me into another level.. and also gained 5kg+ .. but.. the heatyness ... need not to mention... its hardcore as well.. hehe.. so i've stopped taking whey powders for a month.. and only rely to milks.chicken breast.eggs.. diet also back to normal.. but of cos avoids pork fats/fats.. ... for now. will be taking in 1 can tuna + 1/2 pack HL milk for post workout.. if you look properly.. Blue Bay Shredded Tuna has 27g protein per 100g serving. 1 can is 170g. seems like incorrect info on d label.. |

QUOTE(JonYeap @ Aug 10 2009, 04:11 PM) demonstrate or elaborate? how do i achieve low bf?well, wat he meant was... reduce the fats in ur body. and have those masses turn into muscle instead of fats. muscle and fat are totally different. would u rather have 10% bf at 70kg or 20% bf at 65kg? u think for urself... =.= |

Bodybuilder with gynecomastia. Whether a shirt is overtight or overloose, the same problem happens. I've been hitting my upper chest a lot so as to make those nipples less visible in a tight shirt lol. Flex is more to professional BB with lots of info about Pro BBing events, which I don't really understand. I like the research and nutrition segment of MM and M&F, but MM's content is less compared to M&F. Where do you guys get the mags? I don't trust in subscribing coz my mom's Feng Shui mags and my dad's scuba diving mags always get missing in the mail. Popular doesn't always have MM and M&F and I missed a lot of issues earlier this month and I complained to the Popular person and still after 3 months still no mags. Then finally last month I found 1 copy of MM in the magazine section, but no M&F. Then this month there's only 1 copy of M&F but no MM. The only mag they have in stacks on the shelves is that homo mag Exercise/Men's workout, with nothing but ripped people in tights posing for different exercises and nothing else, oh and Men's Health. |

Bro what other exercise than shrugs will develop traps ? Cause i didn't do shrugs at all before this but i got this traps but imbalance traps...left too small and right too big...currently doing shrugs once a week by taking heavier db on my left while i am waiting for my frens which means i haven't been focusing on shrugs yet cause after seeing my traps like that demotivated to do shrugs already...

Ya la bro, can see u pushing ur bone up, but yes can see its big one side but try to do Upright Barbell Row i think its may helps to get real traps |

Try shrugging using the smith at first and once you have the movement then go free-weight.

Man.... guess i got to deload next week. 324lbs is a good figure to begin with. How much did you weigh before cutting? I think you should just give it a few more sessions, and you'll see 324lbs back kicking again or maybe even more. How do you go about deloads? What I would do if I were you is to put on some variations of dealifts. Perhaps do a platform pull next session for more hip drives. Oh by the way before I continue crapping, is 324 your 1RM or your 5RM? |

Not necessarily imbalance, maybe you're just used to 'pushing' up your shoulder blade on that side? I myself had similar issues until I checked in the mirror, have to learn to identify and control the muscles to get a symmetrical look. i tried pushing up other side everytime i flex but nothing come up at all...die man it looks ugly @pedro..actually whats the difference sometime i see ppl shrugging from behind or front ? i don't really know the form for barbell shrugging only tried few times db shrugs... btw guys..if that is my bone and is it normal when i flex it will popped up like that ? can i keep it low ? when my fren see it they only can see that area and will say ugly ler...u guys will popped up something lidat also ? |

My guess is you're just not flexing properly. Practice flexing a bit more and you should be able to make it look right.

haha... errr i dunno consider suitcase style or front.
coz its in between. problem is balancing it when i let it down. i ask 2 frens standing at the side just incase one side lopsided and going to fumble. but didnt need their help also coz i manage to balance it. i wish there is smaller bars coz the olympic bars too long and hard to balance. =.= i think if there is a smaller bar, could have done much more. is there any bar half the length of the olympic size bar? |

As iamyuanwu said, in FF there is a bar that is similar to the olympic bar, but it is half in length, it weighs 10kg by itself.
If you're gonna do one handed lifts you might want to start with that, it allows you use higher weights because there is less demand on your core to stabilise it. But holy s*** 100kg+ single handed deadlift. Not hating or anything, but did you keep your back in a proper position? Just saying, always make sure your back is in proper position and don't round your back, otherwise it could cause trouble. Again, congratulations! |

hey guys , newbie here
im currently doing 25 kg dumbbell press per arm. however i have never done a barbell bench press before. i was wondering, if 25 kg per arm, does that translate to 50kg barbell bench press or does it work differently. Sorry if this question has been asked before |

QUOTE(Short_Circuit @ Aug 15 2009, 05:15 PM) hey guys , newbie here You will most likely be able to do MORE than 50kg.im currently doing 25 kg dumbbell press per arm. however i have never done a barbell bench press before. i was wondering, if 25 kg per arm, does that translate to 50kg barbell bench press or does it work differently. Sorry if this question has been asked before Dumbbell Bench Press requires equal force exerted from both hands, but if one hand is stronger than another (and usually it is), you will be able to lift more when using Barbells. Also, dumbbells place more stress on the core in order to balance the weight, thus reducing the weight you can use. Most likely, you will be able to use more with a barbell. |

yea, ive started about 50kg (165cm) ecto .2nd week jan ( i remember i could barely lift a 7.5kg dumbbell) . flashforward till today, about 65kg+/-1kg. aiming for 69. then thinking of cutting some body fat and switching to strength training instead.
Typical Diet Morning (watever time i get up ) 1 apple, yogurt, 2/3 eggs, protein shake(with milk) mid morning (during classes) uncle toby yogurt bars or chewy bars lunch whatever me n my mates choose to eat ( for sure extra meat ) Workout Postworkout - 1 protein shake whatever is in my uni cafeteria which i can afford ( or head home and open a can of tuna or 2 and some fruits) Dinner typically, 300g chicken breast/beef, 1 cup rice, 2 eggs Supper, just yogurt(cant get enuff of it) and protein shake(with milk) sometimes 1 murtabak here and there but not too often to be considered typical diet its been working considerably well , except for during examination and assignment periods where typical weight loss occurs due to lack of food or should i say lack of time to eat. but im alrite with it, not too hardcore. |

QUOTE(diablokun @ Aug 15 2009, 12:03 PM) ez / curly bar got la that length...oly where got...but then, single-handed DL is dangerous bro...should not do it regularly... I must ask, why is it dangerous? The mechanics of a single-arm deadlift is slightly different, true, but as long as the basics are kept tight, I see minimal problems with doing 1 arm deadlifts. The imbalanced nature of a single arm deadlift, also makes it an amazingly good stability exercise and will tax the cross sectional build of your core which is great. |

QUOTE(pizzaboy @ Aug 17 2009, 05:03 PM) I must ask, why is it dangerous? Damn, you sound like a walking textbook The mechanics of a single-arm deadlift is slightly different, true, but as long as the basics are kept tight, I see minimal problems with doing 1 arm deadlifts. The imbalanced nature of a single arm deadlift, also makes it an amazingly good stability exercise and will tax the cross sectional build of your core which is great. JonYeap did a single arm deadlift to boast to his friends that I believe were doubting his ability to do so. I personally have done a single arm/leg romanian deadlift with a dumb bell. It is an unusual movement to the body which requires a significant amount of stability. JonYeap did a single arm deadlift with a barbell right? Well use a dumbbell next time. To say that a deadlift is a dangerous form of exercise, well maybe it is if you don't know how to do it right, then there is an exception. A deadlift might be complex to certain trainees, therefore a dumbbell deadlift might just raise an eyebrow, thats all. Cross Sectional build of your core, that is so complex but it sounds so cool This post has been edited by shanecross: Aug 17 2009, 04:34 PM |

Single arm work, is mostly used for athletes that require a lot of unilateral movement such as speed skaters, discus throwers, javelin throwers, sprinters. They require the single arm coordination to be able to throw their power from the base (legs) to the final extension (arm) Deadlifts to any healthy individual should usually not be dangerous, unless a form breakdown on essential portions of the body happen (eg:lumbar) On that note, I'm thinking about bringing a TRXsuspension system since there's a lot of people out there that want to workout but don't have a gym or can't find time to go. What do you guys think about it? Think it'll sell? |

But the price is a little steep but if you look at it on a long term basis...it wouldn't hurt much. RM700-RM800. Any takers? LOL! http://www.bwculture.net/Universal_Strengt...ratus_p/usa.htm I assume hanging the legs off it might be a little more uncomfortable compared to the TRX. And I wonder if you could order something similar in China. I mean, it's not exactly something that really requires a lot of technology to manufacture. As a poor Msian, I feel RM500+ for strap is a little expensive. Or perhaps gymnastic rings too? |

QUOTE(zaxxshoxx @ Aug 18 2009, 08:53 PM) Yeah I train twice a day. It's good in the sense it allows me to peak my testosterone level twice in a day, instead of having one session where I have to rush. Also it allows me to stay fresher provided I have enough sleep. I've not heard of this method being used to build muscle though. I'd imagine it be counter-productive to muscle growth, as muscles require between 24-48 hours of rest to grow and have sufficient protein and calories. Training twice a day, would require you to probably move beyond 5000 calories a day for growth. Even that I'm not sure if you can recover in time because of the longer period of time required between for synthesis. I do this because my only concern is getting stronger and faster. Moving fresh and fast, allows my muscles to be very explosive and ensures I have a good bulk of fast twitch muscle fibers. Also I give sports massages and I know how to work with my trigger points and tightness as well as increase blood flow, so in that sense, I'm able to incorporate this. One day I think I wanna get my test levels checked. Wonder how many mmols/g I have QUOTE(kotmj @ Aug 18 2009, 10:34 PM) I think you'll sell more power racks. Those available at Fitness Concept are overfeatured and therefore too expensive. I'll try seeing if my friend can get it cheaper from the USA. Just met him. He goes between US and Singapore monthly. If he can get it for cheaper, I'll spread the savings to the fine fellows here. Actually, I was just thinking about TRX. Can get other stuff such as gymnastic rings and bands too.QUOTE(iamyuanwu @ Aug 18 2009, 11:53 PM) WOAH! 150USD!! Honestly speaking, I used to think the TRX was crap. I mean, rings are better in almost every way. There was however, one small difference. The TRX was useful for those that NEEDED the convenience and portability. One TRX+bands+chains=can workout anywhere. How about the USA? LOL! http://www.bwculture.net/Universal_Strengt...ratus_p/usa.htm I assume hanging the legs off it might be a little more uncomfortable compared to the TRX. There's this full-featured Tanita scale at every Fitness Concept you can use for free. It even prints out your results on a piece of paper. The one at 1U is defective though.

I just realized: Doesn't H&F have quite a habit of running posters "out of town," if we can put it that way? I mean, just off the top off my head: Budak84, King83, Zeist...

I went on an FST program for a few months, then switched to light weight high rep training. Still on it atm. For example, incline bench would be 95kg x 15 reps for 4 sets. The new growth surge and pump I get is amazing. I think that contributed to my extra growth. I needed to give joints and ligaments a rest since my right shoulder is giving way. Pre-Puasa shots... And arm shot. Please don't compare it with Dan and darklight, since mine would look like a twig compared to them lol.
Got my measurement taken earlier today. As I suspected, some of the measurements gets smaller due to busy work/college schedule and dont have time for regular sessions. |

I'm surprised that so many gyms here apparently let people into the weight room without a shirt on, what with the potential problems with sweaty benches and all.
re: Darkie: From what I remember, you called to tell me to check out that Pro Buffed Bodies forum Terry Gallyot had started up. I've never received an invite to a training meetup! |

Guys, I feel that my arms are getting fuller. There's like more density in em but when measured, they're the same as before.
Is it just in my mind or is there an explanation for this? |

It's the pump which increases the measurement so I do not want to measure them then as it would not be accurate.

So yes, genetics largely explain the extreme differences between individual bodybuilders. What they DON'T explain is: What's up with Jay Cutler's fruity little haircut?

i have seen the dude darkie was referring to. haha... freaking strong!
Genetics' is a bit!ch! No matter wat we do, there is always a limit for us. Be it juicing or wat, there is no way we can beat genetics. for example, i give u all the juice u wanna take, and also give u the best workout exercise and just do wat u need to... u can never be like ronnie coleman. haha... thats how life is... genetics sucks... we asian are considered one of the smaller one's. no doubt bout that... haha... but we can get the best out of ourself through working hard and doing wats right... BB for life... haha... |

QUOTE(darklight79 @ Aug 24 2009, 10:05 PM) Not really. We who are of average genetics and natural can still achieve an impressive level of physical development. I don't have to wear sleeveless anymore for people to know I bodybuild. Don't get disheartened by all that. It's no excuse to stop training. =) BB for life! more like a 5 pieces of chicken breast? But still i think i m still far away from my genetic limit, gona push harder. His 2 meals are huge. Really huge. Basically he fulfills his caloric requirements with those 2 meals. The donuts are taken in the morning for energy. Lol. |

@faiz:
Not a big fan of supplements but I'm currently using Scivation Whey and UN Creatine. I try my best to keep my meals clean but it doesn't happen all the time haha. Will keep on lifting! @jonyeap 10x10 = 10 sets of 10 reps with only 30 secs rest in between each set. Use weights which you can normally lift for about 20 times before reaching failure and use those weights for the 10x10. Superb intensity. Great pump too haha |

I've tried doing power cleans. And my wrist gets real hurt. and I'm afraid to slam the barbell on my upper chest bone. furthermore, my gym dont have padded floor.
so, I will do shrug with heavy weight. and more than 10 reps. 10 to 12 reps. Hope my traps will grow |

Heavy shrugging is the way to go to build traps.
You should mix it up between using dumbbells and barbells. With dumbbells - the range of motion for your traps is larger, you can even do one side at a time. But you will be using less weight. With barbells, this is when it's time to go heavy. The best exercise would be shrugging while holding the barbell behind your back. All the best. |

Perhaps he was under the impression that Kopitiam has credible trainees to critic his Squat. Fresh trainees have the mentality of posting their videos to receive a pat on the back but not open to any form of critics at all and if they do receive, they start becoming defensive. QUOTE(darklight79 @ Aug 30 2009, 10:25 AM) Those people are stupid. Every pro and amateur bb'er will tell you that machines and free weights both are tools as a means to an end. Not the end itself. I used to have the freeweight only hardcore mentality till I realized that kind of mindset was severely limiting my potential. I even do an entire workout just based on machines sometimes. yeah i knowi never never allow the muscle to get used with either free weights or machines every 2-3 weeks i will sure alternate although certain things like legs i still do much of the same thing except i either up the poundages or sets cuz legs are my greatest assets hey darkie just wanna know, whats ur normal routine for back? im bored with my current routine la which includes the following although not all at the same time i.e. wide grip lat pulldowns / close grip pulldowns barbell rows - will never miss this although im still using puny weights (15-25 kg's per side depends on mood) but kept at 15-20 reps (registryeditor thought me the right way) t-bar / seated rows (pulley / handles) lying back raises - for the back delts chin ups and sometimes if im bored squats - This post has been edited by gtoforce: Aug 30 2009, 02:38 PM |

smith machine, is it ok to use it for squat? i heard it will not trigger the additional stabilizer muscle but for me, i feel smith machine safer.

QUOTE(JonYeap @ Sep 1 2009, 12:15 AM) lol!!! muahahhaha Haha LOL I've seen that in my gym. I dun quite understand why they do that when the freaking leg press machine is just like 3m away. guys, have any of u seen someone using the smith machine to do leg press? =.= i got a shock when i see this... wakkakaka The leg press machine may not be of Hammer Strength quality but at least it's meant for leg press. They lie on the floor and push the Smith bar upwards. I think that's kinda dangerous. This post has been edited by uhuk-uhuk: Sep 1 2009, 12:37 AM |

One of the odd exercises i saw was doing dumbbell bench press using a Swiss ball and the guy was using 100Lbs per side (Max weight for dumbbell),i tried it the following and found that its quite hard as i was only able to use 30Lbs and maintain correct form,if i went for higher poundage its really hard to control the movemnt.

I think once while i was benching my max weight, i suddenly feel weak. Can't carry up anymore!! No matter how much i try. Have to roll it down my chest, stomach, legs and to the floor.
I was kinda bruised for awhile later:P |

Had to tense up my whole body in fear of breaking a rib or something. I was kinda bruised for awhile later:P The kind of annoying thing was, there were 2 other guys in the gym at that time who're somewhat regulars. And all they did was watch as I was trying to get the bar off me and onto the floor. |

Does anybody want to experiment with the swiss ball? It sounds like if you can overload those stabilizers, you may be able to get some way in strength.
Anybody? |

Since the ball requires you to keep your balance, a number of supportive muscle groups are called into play, thus creating a more "well-rounded" athlete, not only in muscular terms, but in functional terms, too. But I think it's not worth to try, at my level I means... |

QUOTE(pedro @ Sep 1 2009, 09:04 PM) I'm wondering, if the Swiss ball can overload your stabilizers, perhaps you can get stronger by switching a part of your bench workout, to dumbbell benches on a Swiss ball. I've seen Joe DeFranco do it and put his athletes to it. They also like to use chains to act as overloading agents, though I'm not sure anybody on this forum needs this yet.Basically, they will choose one bench exercise (pin benches for example) Work to a max according to the Prilepin's table. Then they move to exercises that require the stabilizers to fry, and the Swiss ball bench is one of them. Sometimes they change to kettlebells and chains as well. Kettlebells shake like crazy when put on a barbell. If you don't watch it properly, you may be benching just 40KG but the bar can fall and turn your teeth out. ![]() It's worth a try, if you can keep the ego out and progress gradually from lighter to heavier dumbbells on the swiss ball. The guy who did that is the previous manager/owner of Celebrity fitness,Jamie is his name.
Serious bodybuilder with an awesome body, now no longer in Malaysia tho,he is American. Used to pump the 100 pounders as if it was nothing,i spotted him for barbell bench until 250kgs. I might give the Swiss ball bench a serious effort if i see some progress in 3 more weeks. |

Me benching 45lbs DB.
I have no idea why the video is so laggy...it was fine on the phone. Must have been youtube's fault for compressing it. Darklight is going to bash me for not going down all the way, but I swear it's the lowest I could go and it was my 4th set for DB bench press and before that I did 5 4 sets of flat BB bench press and 5 sets of SM incline bench press. |

Great form. Yeah, i love this quote by scott abel from t-nationStrength doesn't increase forever and ever. There's a ceiling effect. What happens is after the bodybuilders learn that it's the amount of stress the muscle is under and not the load, they actually start to progress more by using less and less weight. — Scott Abel By the way, florian ur video looks like gif file :s. |

the thing about KFC is that the oil is reused. And some say they use trans fat.
There's enough oil and fat i consume at mamak / cafe / restaurant. All the food at mamak and cafe is oily. Cannot escape that. I just supplement with some olive and fish oil. btw I seldom cook my food. not much time. |

I don't know read from where, a strength coach once said that he can smell the trans fat oozing throught the pores of athletes who are coming for the weigh-in.
(you know, weight class athletes go sauna and sweat themselves to reduce weight for the weight in) |

Angrydog: Your statement makes me wonder how is your LDL, HDL and cholesterol level is. What is your doctor's advice base on the result? Stress test is related to hearth and artery condition rite. All the other numbers are good, actually. Pretty strange, considering my diet.
I think Malaysians have a Pavlovian response whenever they see the words "Ramly burger" written anywhere. |

There was a doctor that believed that HDL/LDL/saturated fat is all good stuff. He says that cholesterol is just running in your body and when there's a problem, cholesterol will fix it. I think Malaysians have a Pavlovian response whenever they see the words "Ramly burger" written anywhere. AH! FOUND IT! http://westonaprice.org/moderndiseases/benefits_cholest.html And then, there's another study (which I can't access because I don't have the acc password/username) about cholesterol, fat and protein. It has very solid proof (Test subject of 150 ppl. 86 ppl managed to finish the test) that may ruin the agriculture industry. It seems, we humans really do not need...... rice! We can basically live very well off simple meat and fruits. That bodes great for me, because I can't stand rice. It leaves me bloated. |

I think that's good enough for me. The dropout rate is quite high, but I think it's because the study was run in US, where it's rather hard for them to stick to a proper diet for a long time. I'd like to see the study done in Europe though. That ought to have solid consistent entries. |

He says that cholesterol is just running in your body and when there's a problem, cholesterol will fix it. Errr... it's not that surprising actually. Rice (and wheat) simply happens to be a great source of energy, and thus cultivated.AH! We can basically live very well off simple meat and fruits. That bodes great for me, because I can't stand rice. It leaves me bloated. I attended a 7th Day Adventist church seminar a looooonng time ago (some friend trying to convert me. LOL!). One points they kept hammering to their members is good nutrition through primitive diet. Primitive as in: Fruits & only fruits. Even vegetables are not considered the main source of food for humans. Of course, that's not possible for most. So it is only an ideal diet. They then suggested this: Fruits, vege and Jesus bread. (OK, OK! I made this name up because they were referring to the type of bread made during Jesus's time. Not the white bread we have now, but the raw, hard, brown bread 2000 years ago.) =) Think about fruit fasting, if some dude can live with just eating fruits for a week and become healthier... I'm sure we could eat fruits only for all our lives with no problem. Well, perhaps protein might be a bit of a problem in the long term. |

I'd like to see the study done in Europe though. That ought to have solid consistent entries. When evaluating a study, there are lots of things that you need to look into. Its not a matter of who can stick to a diet or so. We don't know what they really eat. Studies can be very misleading. You are saying that a success rate of 57% could justify things for you? Not very convincing to me. Whats more without running through the journal, you wouldn't even know who are the samples ; athletes ? some jock ? old people ? To also say that humans don't need rice to survive is just too much . A lot of things should be put into consideration. Credibility of a study is so important because we got heaps of journal articles these days proving things that would only cause a huge mislead. I'm just trying to make a point here because I don't want everyone to go home and start eating meat and fruits and nothing else. Things like this just can't be preached. w/r This post has been edited by shanecross: Sep 3 2009, 09:22 PM |

I did some part time work at McDonalds for around a month before, and here's how they handle cooking oil. They completely change the oil about once or twice a week, the rest of the time the oil is topped up when necessary. So naturally, by the time a change is due, the oil has turned rather dark. Can't say I know how KFC's kitchen procedures are exactly, but i'd say its similar. |
