10 Things You Should Know About UniFi

1. This service is a 24- month contract and a termination fee of RM500 is chargeable for termination of service within the contract period.

2. If your premises reside in high rise building served via copper, you must terminate your existing Streamyx service (if any).

3. Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise. You will be responsible for providing TV and 4-socket extension cord to complete the installation. No installation appointment will be made for premises under renovation.

4. All triple play services (internet, voice and TV) must be activated during service installation. Partial service activation is not allowed.

5. UniFi is a wired broadband service. Wireless connectivity is an option and is subject to interference and obstructions factor.

6. UniFi account owner or authorised contact person must be available during the service installation. For high rise premises, owners are required to make arrangement with Building Management Office for installation permission, internal cabling and access to telecommunication room.

7. Installation fee includes external cable entrance up to the internal wiring with maximum of 15 metres for fiber cable, 15 meters for Ethernet/phone cables and 30 metres for casing (raceway). Additional charges will be applied for cable more than 15 metres and 30 metres casing (raceway) and charges will be included in your UniFi bill.

8. For other non-standard installation e.g. wiring above ceiling, underground and conceal wiring, you may appoint your own contractor or deal directly with TM appointed contractor. Payment will be made directly to the contractor.

9. Please provide correct and valid Billing Address / Postal Address. Select either paper bill or e-mail bill (please provide valid and preferred e-mail address). Bill is also accessible at myUniFi (https://occ.unifi.my). TM may impose a minimal monthly charge for paper bill with notification given.

10. All UniFi equipment provided by TM is subject to 12 months warranty period.

IMPORTANT NOTES (MUST READ)

Internal Wiring
Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise to allow fibre cable entrance into the house. Internal concealed wiring will not be carried out by TM. However, customers can arrange their own or choose from TM’s authorised list of contractors at their own expense. TM shall propose the recommended list of contractor for the concealed wiring (wall or ceiling). As this is beyond the job scope of RNO, customer will deal and make payment directly to the contractor. Operationally, reappointment is to be arranged when the conceal wiring is completed. Customer is required to inform TM for installation appointment.
Premise currently under renovation
During installation day, TM will not proceed if the customer premise is under renovation unless insist by customer, TM will charge customer accordingly if request for other appointment time. Customers who are having their home renovated are advised to inform TM prior setting service installation appointment. TM shall not be responsible for any damages resulted from construction and renovation done by customer through third party during or after the installation.
Customer Unreachable and Change of Appointment
Premise inaccessibility or deferment of installation appointment upon the installation team’s arrival at a customer’s premise will be subject to a charge of RM100. Re-appointment will be subject to time slot availability.
High-Rise VDSL & FTTH
For high-rise (condos, apartment, office building) ,TM would require to access the MDF/SDF room to physically activate the port which normally locked by the Building Management/Maintenance. Therefore, customers are required to communicate and make arrangement with your Building Management/Maintenance Office to ensure someone is available to grant the access to TM UniFi Installer to MDF/SDF room during the installation time. Without the access to MDF/SDF room, installation cannot be performed and TM has to revisit which will incur unnecessary cost to customer.
In the case of copper wired building that uses VDSL2 technology, successful delivery of UniFi services is subject to technical testing. TM has the right to cancel the order should the building copper wire is deemed as not passing the technical test or not ready to deliver the service.

Installation Guide
 

From making an appointment to the signing-off of the Service Acceptance Form, here is a complete step-by-step process of how we bring UniFi into your home or office.

Step 1: Appointment

Appointment is made at the point of registration. You may choose your preferred date and time for UniFi installation but please note that installation for FTTx (Fibre to the Home or Office) is expected to take between 4-8 hours, and for VDSL2, 2-3 hours.

24 hours prior to the agreed installation date and time, the TM UniFi Centre will call you for a final confirmation. Our UniFi technician will also call you just before he goes to the agreed address of installation.

Step 2: Site Assessment

Upon arrival at your home or office, our technician will brief you on the step-by-step process of the entire installation. This includes:

(i) Site assessessment (outdoor and indoor)
(ii) Cable entrance (drilling point for FTTx)
(iii) Equipment termination point
(iv) Route of wiring

In the case of FTTx installation, our technician will determine the location of the Fibre Distribution Point (FDP), whether it is located on an overhead pole, or underground. If the underground fibre access is blocked due to any home or office renovation, it may require a longer installation period than for overhead fibre access installation.

For VDSL2, site assessment is much quicker since our technician need only access the building’s MDF room and perform the necessary cabling there.
Note: VDSL2 - your existing Streamyx or Business Broadband access will be disabled during this exercise.

Step 3: Installation

It's time to complete the installation process. As part of this process, some minimal drilling may be required. After laying the cables we will determine which modem is suitable for your home. Indoor installation requires more time as our technician needs to lay the internal fibre optic cable. Cables of sufficient length will be provided. However, in cases where additional cable lengths are required, some minimal charges will be incurred. To prevent unsightly wiring, wires and cables will be housed in proper casings.

However, if you wish it to be a drill-free installation, and if the fibre optic cables are required to be pulled through your home or office ceiling, we have a panel of contractors that you can work with, the costs of which will be borne by you.

VDSL2 does not require drilling since UniFi connection will come from the existing phone jack in your home or office. For this premise type, indoor installation requires minimal setup time.

Step 4: Equipment Setup

After laying all the cables, it’s time to connect the equipment. Our technician will first set up the BTU followed by Premise Gateway, Set-top-Box (for Residential package only) and DECT Phone. Once the equipment is tested and works properly, our technician will then show you that all the services are in working order.

Step 5: Completion

You are required to sign-off a Service Acceptance Form (SAF) as part of the process to complete the installation work. For a complete understanding of what TM UniFi service is, please read the terms and conditions in your service agreement.

I got the DIR-850L, anyone want me to test anything?
Currently serving 4 wired PC and 4 wireless devices.. no problem since day 1.

then need to waiting or push time to install infra on landed properties will become worth waiting....hehehehe

Yup,experience the same since this earlier this year. Even im alone using the internet, twitch will buffer and hang sometimes. Had to use youtube gaming watch manila major stream last week.

My unqualified 2 cents here ...

Govt has allocated RMx billion in the budget to improve broadband in 2016. So can expect some improvement to the infrastructure for higher speed and some promotion to get more to ride on them.

Yes, this improvement-promotion pattern will repeat every x years and one can be waiting for ever if one does not get in. Ha.

My personal strategy is not to aim for the highest speed package as that will carry with it some hidden cost premium. Aim for the 2nd or 3rd highest speed if they are sufficient for your use.

Can't wait for my Unifi 30! A big jump for me from 8 to 30! Ha.

What's the default username & password for the DIR-850L?

3x Gigabit port for other stuff
1x Port for HyppTV only
Port for hypptv cannot be used like a normal lan port.
I'm using Advance 100.
As I'm not home just yet, I can only give this screenshot from my phone.

No idea, my router came pre-configured, the guy only came to plug it in. Password sticker will be placed on top of the router for your usage.

Normally if you bought one by yourself the router ask to set a password. But if it is given by TM it probably is configured by the installer. You only option is to factory reset it.

Actually that router you can set the lan port vlan id.

So either way you can disable iptv and use as normal port:)

What's the best offer to upgrade from VIP10 to Advance30?

For 850L, u can configure all the 4 ports to use for internet. ucan also configure ur guest wifi to iptv.

Same here. Can't even stream on high quality setting. Emailed TM about it and they asked me for pingplotter result. I bet their routing to twitch site is messed up atm

All routing towards SG is beyond fucked up right now, probably applicable for AWS. My connection is being routed through France then SG.

Anyone experiencing any internet connectivity issues?? I can't connect to internet since noon... Apparently there's a problem once I call Unifi..

I upgraded to unifi 30 recently, been using new and old plan for less than a year I think.
I'll try the "router have issue"

TM will send technician to your house to check your router...some user feedback that the technician straight away change the router without checking the router, some will check before change...if they decided ti change for u, u might not get 850L, they might give u Innatech RGX4400....try your luck then.

My housemate got complain to me on problematic internet connectivity this evening. Already drop an email to TM on this matter.

when i got my 850L the password is blank....

Why the regret? Though I may understand why. It seems slow.

The TM silk screened one that I have now is FW: v2.06 HW: B1. First thing that hits me is that web interface is really slow. Haven't really tested the 850L but for now I feel the RGX4400 is a better choice. I've been using the RGX4400 at a nearby coffee shop almost everyday. It's really fast. It can handle 20-30 typical kopi shop users with no probs at all.

I wonder how the 850L holds up.

I regret in the sense that I can probably get it free from TM instead of buying it myself. My silver TM TRG212M router is still within warranty. Maybe I can cry wolf and set up both of them to work in tandem

I not sure about the RGX4400 but the DIR-850L comes with quite a lot of features for a basic router. Not to mention some basic but usable QoS.

Thanks, that's DLink's default right? I guess somewhere along the way TM had the stickers printed and routers reconfigured.

The best thing about DLink is the free ddns and not just any ddns, it's hosted by dyndns.org which is quite reputable.

For sure, get the TRG212M changed. I'm officially, as far as TM is concerned, still using my DIR-615, one of these days I will put it back online and complain about the slowness.

TM gave me the 850L without the TM logo on the router...not like others got the TM logo on the router.

That's true, it's got a really nice web interface. Free dlinkddns from dyndns is always my favourite feature of DLink routers. The QoS by device look very simple to use.

Built-in AP mode selection is good for those just want to use it as an additional AP.

Shareport is very easy to setup but no FTP. It's webdav right? Must try it one day.

Lastly, they don't attempt to hide the PPPoE password. It's there when you need it.

Things I don't like about it so far. 1 x USB2 port, no FTP, no SNMP, no telnet, no SSH (but most ppl won't need the last 3), cannot change Admin username.

One day will test it to see how many connections it can take before dying. it has 128mb RAM but not sure how much of that is free.

Edit: No link lights for the ethernet ports. Why?

When you first got it, did you use it? Can it handle bittorrent well? I'm wondering how much free ram and hence connections that it can take.

I tried up to 300 connections (150 active) on a torrent, it works fine but slightly increased latency, like 8 to 20 or 30ms. But we entirely ban torrenting in house so it's not a common thing I use.
I also tried updating my game, War Thunder which is known for its killer P2P updater, still works fine.

They do have Samba but the performance is quite slow. It is a very basic Wireless AC router, don't expect too much

Any pictures of the RGX4400.

If not anything else, it'll be useful as a dual-band AP. I mean it's free right?

I'll snap pics of it tomorrow but RGX4400 looks exactly the same as the RG4332 with additional one USB3 and one USB2 port at the back. It's the standard Innacomm silver box. I bought one from a forumer for RM50 but the one I've been using most is the one at the coffee shop. I'm so damn impressed with its performance. It doesn't have fancy features but it has SSH, telnet, FTP and even snmp. Not sure if it has SMB. Almost 90MB free ram on boot. The web interface is really fast. Basic looking but quite complete. Even has an ARP table. It reminds me of a Mikrotik. Maybe that's why I like it so much.

I know I keep on harping about snmp but I use it to monitor some routers and servers.

Most routers above are Mikrotiks. The one with only a few status box are not. They either don't have snmp or have snmp that don't work.

my unifi advance 50Mbps start on November. so my services contract start on November to0, since I upgrade to unifi pro I tot my contract will be change too april 2016 but in the system still showing November 2015. don't let your hand itchy more laa....it will turn your hand to skinless because you scratch too much.

having my biggest jump ever after 12 years with 1Mbps. upgrade to 100Mbps. the hardnest gone. but its depends on how your wanted too.I think no hidden premium cost they just monopolized the market.

how much does this router value? wanna to sell mine to laa.wah very lucky u got without tm router.

Erm, the system shows that way but they can see it from their system. Mine shows Dec 2014 the one I upgraded from VIP5 to VIP10. The reality is I upgraded again in July 2015.

I already complain to TM wifi always lost signal in my bedroom. Technician came to my house and straight change to DIR 850L. Haha. that my main purpose actualy

i am using RGX4400 as well, but i found that it takes longer time to load COC, instagram and even on normal browsing compared to my old RG4332. just wonder do i need and special setting on the router? also my phone will auto discounet from the wifi randomly after certain time i dont use it, do note that i did not switch on power saving mode on my phone and this does not happen last time when i was using RG4332. Just wondering the discounetion issue is caused by the power saving mode?

What's your speedtest like?

The RGX4400 that I use is at a coffee shop. I'm usually there lunch or dinner so consider peak time. About 20-30 devices. Performance still very good. They're on 100mbps, I guess that helps. As far as the router is concerned, it's on default config. The only setting that I can see that might affect performance is QOS. Currently it's set to "fair competition."

Can't say about the disconnection. Haven't really noticed it since I'm on a notebook when I'm there.

speed wise, i manage to get full speed, 33mbps down and 10mbps up.. however i am not sure whats the issue causing slow loading on image on wifi, when i am using LAN quite smooth.. as for the QOS mine is set as fair competition as well this come by default when TM technician setting up the router. i've tried factory reset and configure it again, still same result though..

If LAN ok and WiFi slow then definitely should be looking into placement of RGX4400, wifi configuration or perhaps interference from neighbours. Not that much you can do but try a different place to put the router (or higher/lower), changing channels or using different channel widths. Do you use 5Ghz or 2.4GHz?

I'm on 5GHz Wifi at the coffee shop. It's a new row of shops so very little interference. I can get full 100/50mbps speedtest on my phone on 5GHz AC. The layout is quite open so there's nothing blocking the wifi signal. A house or apartment would be quite different.

Apps Store issue is fixed right? I have no more issue updating my apps.

I think what shows in OCC is our basic and first registration date for unifi....damn you always got the better one laa...
your unifi pro with ruby pack is also RM 299 before gst right...no need to add 10 ringgit right?

my 1st unifi registration date was on 2012 may, i the service start date show in OCC is when i upgrade from 5mb to 10mb...yup, unifi pro qith ruby pask is also RM299.

I see. Got the sms today and was worry that I need to pay extra monthly after the free upgrade so start google about this.
Been received many calls ask to upgrade but i reject all.

Just be wary and have a contingency plan for the likelihood that they are slowly nudging you along to one day 'rebrand' the only VIP plan left as Advance something-or-other, and dump the Voice Pack on you for RM20, with the option of refusing it if you sign a fresh 2-year contract.

when upgrade from 30-5o . will tmnet provide free modem/stb/cordless phone?

if upgrade from 30Mbps to 50Mbps u will be using the equipment given to you earlier except your device kong and will be replace if still under warranty la

To be fair, it was never absolutely landline to landline, only TM to TM.

Calls to Maxis or TIME landlines were still charged. It's just that up until about 4 years or so, almost all landlines were TM ones, and it wasn't really a factor, so it just got glossed over.

my one no more warranty.. they upgrade my vip10 to 30 last month (Same price . no contract) . today they called me offer me upgrade to 50 for additional rm20 . i reject it.
i forgot to ask whether upgrade to 50 got give free modem/stb/cordless phone or not.

Usually they won't automatically replace the equipments for 50mbps and below unless you have faulty equipments.

do they still get the free call? or they got 10Mbps upgrade and nothing else change?

I can still call TM landlines for free, yes. Too bad half the places I need to call, including my office downtown, no longer have TM landlines.

These days telcos started giving free unlimited calls, sooner or later free landline calls from TM will be no longer relevant or attractive. They need to come out with more attractive stuff.

free call voip and free to mobile. or they can create apps that can replicate home no and use it with our smartphone. so we can use either mobile or tm landline. i think tm also need to come out with in apps that we can access unifi account like maxis and digi. atleast mobile friendly
