Already had a tummy before i started bulking, its inevitable to gain fats while in the bulking phase isnt it,

Shoulders And arms are growing but looks like the additional fats are going to the waistline

Go to most fitness shops, they can do it for you free-of-charge. But if you wanna do it yourself, can try getting one of those body fat calipers.

Hey all big brother, talking abt gym belt...

Do we need it? Only when we squat really heavy, rite? But heavy is quite relative, so how do we judge it?

And the belt people wear when they bench press also the same belt? Or it's not?

Hmm...

What are the forumers recommendations for beginners wanting to gain mass ?

Went from a former fatty at 85kg 30%BF (1.68m) and after trying for a year (with multiple fail in btw sad.gif ) , manage to drop down to 65kg 18%BF. Being a skinnyfat now i was thinking off adding mass

Read a lot of recommendation for Starting Strength but judging / asking a lot of the buff guys at gyms , most of em do a split.

Thoughts on this ?

Hi guys, is it a must for your muscles to feel sore the next few days as an indication that you've worked them hard? I do feel the soreness in some parts, but some other parts wont feel sore. I'm just wondering if Im not hitting those parts hard enough.

ur not eating frequently enough, nor are you eating enough protein.
Your diet might probably work to lose weight ( fat , muscles, .....) but its not useful in bodybuilding where they care about maintaining as much muscle mass as possible and lose bodyfat when on a "cut"
Im not really a calorie counting person, but 1300 maintenance is kinda low, and if your "cutting" , ull probably dip below 1000? that doesnt sound right.... but im not an expert in this division, maybe someone else can clarify this. i think someone who has maintenance of 1300 calories is already underweight? why would u need to cut even more?

er..muscle mass increases when you go through hypertrophy. eg. you walk in the jungle and a tiger came out chasing you (for the lolz) and you actually out run it and you "tear" those small muscles when you were running and you go through hypertrophy where your body repair the muscle and build that lil extra more to help you out run that tiger again next time. years and years of running away from faster and faster tigers ends up in more muscle mass.

strength is not just about how much slow oxidative muscle (red muscle) that you have, it's about how strong your joints, grips, tendons, ligaments etc etc are. that's why you can see many thin but strong guys biggrin.gif

generally the more strength > lift heavier weight > more efficient work out for hypertrophy > easier to build muscle mass.
that's why you can see people who keep playing around with dumbbells don't gain much. your right hand won't gain much muscle from all those fapping you do. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

it should be muscle + fat. not fat. power lifting scene has seen many leaner athlete in recent years who can do big lifts just as their 'fat' counterpart. people need to eat a lot to grow fast and it's better to eat more than to eat less than you need so power lifters generally carries a certain amount of fat. imagine if you weight 150kg now with 25kg fat, if you shed 20kg away wouldn't your squat increase cause you don't have to lift those f***ing fat on the way up? ...

If i can and if i can afford to eat it everyday i would. Beef itself is more calorie dense than chicken or fish, good for bulking and red meat is good for brain development.

Oatmeal + a shake would be decent if you're pressed for time. And prepare a sandwich (ie with a good helping of meat and veges) or something to bring with you to eat during the drive, since it'll be a long one. (I'm assuming you're coming down to KLIA)

Cant have a better source of creatine/test-booster from the red meat esp beef. The only concern from me is the risk of colon cancer from the daily beefing.

Best straps I ever used were made from seat belts, its thin, flexible and very strong!

Downside is you gotta make them yourself!

If not then get those!

if you want to get ripped. Easy do 1 hour cardio a day 6 times a week .. and eat lesser than your body need. Maybe 1600kcal for a guy and 1200kcal for a girl.

Well ones can never bee too sure. Shit happens. Like Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler, they just overtrained for a few times they turned into that size. Accident do occur. So smart people take precautions, they tell themselves everyday so they dont end up tragically like Coleman.

u got bashed bcoz ur sentence underestimated the effort needed to get big. u made it sound as though it's easy.
and u r not the first newbie to say so.
imagine every now and then someone comes in and say:

'i want this model look/beach body/ripped body, but dun want too big'
i feel u r lucky u get bashed here and not being bashed on the spot by asking the same question straight to a real bodybuilder face to face.

i dont think all newbies are fully indulge/ aim to get big(powerlifter/ pro builder).
maybe they just express it the wrong way.
they should say, "i wanna have a ripped/ toned body".
then maybe you guys will not shoot them too much.

That's why we are harsh bro,to get even a smaller body than that it requires a lot of food and hard work!

I know you get it now but people tend to think its easy to be as big as Randy, matter of fact is its not!

Guys, when we are working middle/lower back, how exactly should we feel? Should we be feeling soreness during the workout? The thing now is the feel I'm getting is different from other body part, it feels like doing it wrongly.. sad.gif

ChinHong. I think you should cut till your ideal BMI and fat % .. then you start to bulk when you find that cutting is becoming hard. But bulk cleanly so it's easier to cut to shred.

do you guys think caveman diet works in cutting? i mean we're not supposed to eat anything in the day and then eat 1 large serving at night. is it possible to absorb all those proteins?

Just a general question , May I know if the most of you work towards a body type that you want or do you just work out because you wanna work out?

i've never been a fan of saying, I want this body or that body, I mean ,yes I do set a goal for myself saying I want to lose the midsection fat, build up more definition on my pecs, more shoulders development etc etc.

Maybe it's just me , but even if I tell myself, I want a body like so and so, in the back of my head, I know that even if I'm ripped to shreds I wouldn't look like so and so, NOT because I don't work hard enough towards it, but rather, because everyone's built different. Different insertion points, muscle attachments , muscle bellies and so forth.

But then again, like I said, maybe it's just me. How about you guys?

Dory , not a fan of it. Goodness gracious, when packed for meals, that fish makes the whole room smell like...

anyway, try to buy from wet market la. I buy from uncle on weekly basis until he sends it directly to my house. Average Rm100 a week, 2 plastic bags of butterfly chicken breast(10 - 15).

Tenderloin as I posted 2kg rm40, that's around 8 meals right there.

The thing is I can't find turkey and even wet market depends on availability, I'm actually considering tilapia since I heard that it is the most tasteless fish of all(packed that is).

hope this is the correct place to ask

i've been BB benching 67.5kg the other day. right shoulder feels kinda funny. there was a slight pain but din bother bout it. was benching 70kg today and the pain starts to develop. i couldn't finish my 2nd set when the pain became more pronounced. when i do the bench press motion, there is a "clak" sound in my shoulder.

so should i deload? or stop for a period till it recovers?

i really think u should stop and wait for a while. cause i've been into that situation before and it really hurts if you continue doing that.

guys, may i know what is your routine for chest workout? i mean something that i can do at my room as my uni's gym is packed like sardine can. i only got pair of dumbells, barbell, and curve barbell to work on.

U got quite a lot equipments for workout di. Benchpress, dumbell fly. These are all good chest workout. Maybe you are lack of bench? If you are able to find way to work your chest out at different angle.(As in inclines, declines, flat) These 2 exercises are very sufficient. Unless you meant you really want to isolate each and every muscle. Otherwise, presses and flies are enough. Read somewhere at bb.com about the angle and muscles targetted. Perhaps you can search for it. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yupe. Dip with leaning forward is good for lower chest. But to be frank, I also feel that sore on triceps and shoulder. Can't go too much on the dip.So I will still include the decline press on the routine. But after all,I still focus more on the flat bench press for foundation.

Protein is protein, get the one that has the best value for money. No, age doesn't matter, but form and technique matters A LOT.

exercise that target rotator cuff suppose to be done with very small weight, 0.5kg, 1kg is more than enough. If you do it with more weight, you overdo it... if you are doing it without weight... than I would suggest you to be patience... take it slowly. If you want to continue shoulder exercise, take off weight until you feel comfortable, lift light. If still hurt, stop shoulder exercise wait for 1,2 days, see if problem solved. If still hurt, just stop shoulder exercise and start doing rotator cuff exercise. You can also try to do other kind of shoulder exercise and see if it is OK. Sometimes, only a specific exercise giving problems...

~sosostupid, I would suggest you go to clinic and get a refer letter to go to hospital. The doctor would know better...

At the mean time, you can try to do exercise as discuss in another thread.

My comment:

Usually I don't do chest n tris together bcoz tris are already used when u do chest. So u cannot tap the full potential of ur tris unless u fully isolated it. Maybe can switch with bis for back.

I would remove peanut butter for cutting if I were u.

i do about 4-5 exercises for chest, 1-2 for tris. is that okay? take away peanut butter, anything else to add?

y sacrifice tris just bcoz u do chest? y not fully isolate it and do 5 exercises for tris also. Anyway there's no right or wrong, if u do see results then good.

carbs at nite isn't tat good also. in the end, it's all about reducing the calories.

I don't do any bulking/cutting thing. But I'll say that playing football/rugby/jogging ka whatsoever definitely is not a reason why you are not working out your legs. You may not want to "enlarge" (if you able to) legs with workouts, but for whatever reasons if you said cutting/bulking, leg day shouldn't be out. Because that's one of the large muscle group to work, and working quadriceps secrete 2-3 times more growth hormone than working the tris.So if you want cutting, you hope you burn more fat (by exercise a large muscle group, yes you burn fat) and pack up some mass (by the growth hormone, you do). So why you will sacrifice your leg day? In fact if you really want to CUT, instead of alternating day with cardio/weight training, why don't you do a 15-20 mins of cardio post workout everyday. And then made it a 5/6 training day with 1/0 cardio day a week?

i do tri's with chest as well, only reason is to spare bi's for back day. imo you're not doing enough for tri's ijnek. try throwing in some skullcrushers/rope pulldowns?
ftr, my chest day is db incline, bb flat, db or cable flyes, HS Chest press, skullcrushers, CGBP, rope pulldowns. also 4-5 sets per exercise. reps depends, usually 4 - 12 depending if its volume or heavy day.

Hmm, I can see that. But is squat means all leg exercises? hmm.gif

Anyway, how much effort he put in the "squat for twice a week" should be the answer for it.

No offense. Maybe not everyone like to workout leg, squat is like the only thing people will do for their legs.

After all, I just did my part to remind that a LEG day should be there because you have to work out quadriceps, hamstring and calves on your legs. Squat could be the god damn compound move that cover lots muscles, but it never covers all the muscles. How he squat and how much he squat for that 2 times a week matters a lot.

Still stick to that principle, everyone know and believe in what they are doing, other comments and feed backs are just opinions, one can choose to thumbup.gif or just whistling.gif .

As long as still biggrin.gif and flex.gif , everything fine.

Hi guys i have a few questions to ask, hopefully i'll get some answers from here.

1. Does working on front/side/back deltoids help widening/broadening shoulder?

2. Which part of muscle does lateral pull down machine use? if i'm not mistaken the main part should be latissimus, but does it also use arm and shoulder muscle?

3. What do you guys usually do to particularly enlarge bicep muscle? besides dumbbell curl

4. Kindly suggest me some exercises/workouts which ultimately widen and broaden shoulder icon_question.gif smile.gif

Thanks!

1.Yes, working deltoids widen shoulder.
2. Lateral pull down machine is like a compound movement, it's target your back (lat), but of course you use your arm to pull down.So arm muscles are involve too.
3.Hammer curl is good too. And Concentration curl for the "peak".Preachers curls also work for bicep.
4. Shoulder presses, upright row, lateral raises, shoulder front raises... These are the exercises that work your shoulder. But China's Great Wall isn't build in one day, normally a wide shoulder come with small waist. And for those shoulder workouts, you can always check BB.com. Otherwise, ask swimmers. Swimmers normally have wide shoulder and back.

obviously you've been experiencing this issue for a prolong time. Just stop doing bench press and start doing rotator exercise. Take a day or 2 day rest before doing rotator exercise can be considered too.

do you feel the pain doing bench press with barbell at the bottom position? Reducing the range of motion (stopping half the rep, not going deep enough) might help. Same goes for barbell shoulder press (elbow should be pointing forward, not flared out to the side). Try to switch to dumbell version see if the irritation comes from doing barbell exercise...

If it hurts, you can consider doing bodyweight exercise such as push up and handstand push up as a replacement altogether.

i think so too. because whenever i bench heavy, i tend to lift my right shoulder off the bench. bad habit. the pain was very brief so i couldn't be bothered last time.

no did not feel any pain when barbell is at bottom position. just that when pressing upward my right shoulder will hurt. gonna try it with light weight at w/o later and see how it goes

Thanks!! i started doing concentration curl and concentrate on the 'peak', i can really feel the pressure on my biceps haha.

By the way, i saw some video comments on youtube saying about 'strong' and 'endurance' style for the same exercise. when doing strong, more weight and lesser reps; when doing endurance, lesser weight but more reps. would anyone care to clarify and explain this?

Thanks!

To Mahdes 88, try hit your weight then do your cardio. Without a look on your workout routine and details of your "normal" meals, no one can give you detail opinions.

TO Damien?(: , someone who build upper body only is not a body builder. A bodybuilder build his whole body, both upper and lower. In fact, a lot people misunderstood abt BBer's athletic performance. A good body builder lift well, eat well, rest well, stretch well and treated his body well. A lot BBers are big yet they are with good flexibility and stamina. No doubt. Certain big size people will give u the misconception they are freaks that can't keep their balance off the ground. But IT'S A MISCONCEPTION.

Anyway, it's really not that easy to train to have that huge upper body that going to cause you off balance. So think less. Just train!

Is it? Are you sure? Did you see it in the locker room? You read it from the newspaper? Did you see that Brazil's Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Robinho failed to stay on top of the Europe for not entering the gym?

Think twice before you post.

hi van..im not into footballers cant do gym or lift weight,if u ask me if a defender say like Terry,Ferdinand of course they have a good structure and with correct weight and nutrition they will be at their best..if u watch some EPL footballers especially defenders will have a solid tough body coz they need to defend...maybe basically footballers build their body accordingly i mean they wont build until they bulk or gain more upper weight but of course they have their own fitness coach who will conduct the training for the strength part...as for Gabby i mean most Villa fans knew his strength was pace but last year b4 the season begins he had done too much gym workout in order to stay on top when play against top defender like Terry or Ferdinand coz EPL is known to be the toughest and at times very robust
n physically challenge game..as a result of that Gabby bulk and lost some of his pace according to then manager O'Neill and later GHoulier!
of course without thinking twice i wont post something but this was some info that i get when was reading..anyway my point is if u hit the gym if ur footballer then u must have a proper guidance.try to hv some info thru the web...

You should know that I dont do bench press and I only do push up. I find push up is really tough and I know how to make push up tough. I have progressed to 1 arm push up a long time ago, and it is a real fun and a real cool move especially if I decided to workout outdoor with so many people can just watch and cant do what I do. I never feel a pain from push up even with 1 arm 1 leg push up (arm to the side).

Now back to bench press, obviously now your problem is technique. Bench press is a very technical lift, you better get your technique right. Technique falls apart with heavy weight, your body pay the price. No matter the weight is light or heavy... just maintain good technique.

It is natural that you feel pain during the concentric part (going up). You can try to cut the rep half and see whether the pain reduce a little.

And... retract your shoulder. The moment you lift your shoulder you have lose the retract shoulder (if you doing it already) and your shoulder joint will take the full load, hence the pain. If you have never retract your shoulder, then my friend... you need to stop doing bench press and start researching more on bench press technique. smile.gif push up anyone?

when there is no more muscle sore after workout, does it mean we need to add more weight? for example, bicep curl?

It means, change things up. Your body is getting used to it.
Or it's simply too light. You failing at 8 - 12 reps?

its normal to be fatigued by the 3rd set.

but i dont get what you mean by after doing the 3rd set, there is no more pain/sore.

u mean for the last 2 sets of 10, u experience pain /sore every rep?

D.O.M.S. usually comes AFTER your weight training.

nevertheless, soreness should be too particular to be gauged on whether you've trained enough or not. Most of the time, it's just because your body has gotten used to the routine.

I'm confused.
The body will burn fats as fuel when its low on calories

The other thing is, the body will take muscle and turn it into fuel if there is no calories in the body.

So when will each scenario happen?

Both proteolysis and lipolysis happen hand in hand when you are calorie-deficient. Thats why you inevitably lose muscle bulk as you cut. Ofcos there are ways to go around this. Supplement is one of them. BCAA is especially beneficial during cutting, in maintaining the muscle mass. Macronutrient manipulation can be helpful too. By supplying sufficient/constant flow of protein you make sure the muscle is tipping towards the proteosynthesis of the balance of proteosynthesis/proteolysis. Net effect? You lose more fat than muscle as you cut.

So basically just maintain the amount of protein either by meat or protein shake and low on calories will be sufficient to minimize muscle loss during cutting?

since you wanna cut, try increasing the number of days per week you do your cardio first. gradually. only add in, if you hit a plateau.
When you plateau at 7 days, try doing 2 cardio sessions per day. that's gonna be a shock to your body for sure.

2 ways to do that!

Bulk without cardio and cut later

or

Clean bulk with some cardio

Both have pros and cons,up to you to decide which way to go!

I thought you said 20 b4 this?
Stick to 20mins and 4 days(1 day increment from ur current cardio routine ) first. when there's no change in weight, then add another day.
Control your environment. I had classes from 8am to 8 pm and I had to cycle my ass back and forth. But I made sure I did my cardio in morning and I did my cardio in my evening. It's about how bad you want it mate.

When your cardio reached 7 days for 20 minutes/day. Add in sessions in the evening then. Then it'll be 14 cardio sessions a week. All in all, you WILL hit a plateau even at this stage, that's when you put in additional 5 minutes per session.

Nevertheless mate, you have to keep tabs on your diet. How much you're gonna lose depends on how much you've got to lose. How much can you lose from your change in routine/diet, depends on how much change you have in your routine/diet.

Say you're eating 2 cups of rice per meal, cut it down to 1 and half cup when you plateau, when that fails, cut it down to 1 cup. I try to stay clear of less than 3/4 of a cup.

Note* - Check every week if you lose weight, look in the mirror, see if there's changes. If you add in the extra cardio for that week, dont cut your amount of food intake, if you cut down your food intake, dont add in your cardio. Make little adjustments here and there. It's all about trial and error and making minor adjustments.

How long you plan to cut and how much you wanna cut anyway?

When we bulk, even with a CLEAN diet, we're bound to put on a little bit of fats, and when we cut, we're bound to lose a little bit of muscle as well. It's all about finding out what works for you.
I do encourage some form of cardio, maybe twice or thrice a week just to get the blood flowing. Not super intense cardio, just a brisk walk of some sort. But that's just me. It's down to you to see what you wanna do

if you really did f*cked up your back, I'd actually suggest you look for a doctor immediately and get it fixed before you try and work out. Your health comes first. Aint no good going around with a nice looking body but your health is jeopardize.

clean bulking, all carbs are complex/fibrous, all protein are lean and minimal fats, all fats are natural occuring and unsaturated. No frying or any of that sort.

You can sautee, grill, boil, steam your food. And cut your cheat meals down to once every 10 days or every fortnight or if you're strong willed enough, cut out your cheat meals completely until you're done with your fat loss diet.

do note however that, it is not advisable to go on a fat loss diet indefinitely.

Clean bulking is not about how much you can eat, it's about how much CLEAN food you can eat.

yes, i am a student. find out how much your daily macronutrients needs are and try slowly deducting fats and carbs from them.

Hence, cook your own food. I cook on every Sunday, food that can last me all the way to Friday and keep them in tupperware containers. I eat nearly all of my meals from my tupperware containers. It can be a b!tch at times, but I gotta do what I gotta do.

Again, it's all about how bad you want it mate. Most of the time when you're dieting, them foods that you cant take, will look so bloody tempting and delicious but when you're finally done with your diet and you get to that cheat meal, you realize it aint that tasty afterall.
That's something you can think about the next time you'rethinking of cheating.

unluckily i cant cook my own food cz i live in a hostel. no facilities for cooking or refrigerating. my main source of food is the cafe. i tried my best to consume superbly less rice (only 1 scoop) and add more on fish/chicken and vege.

so basically, during ur cutting phase, after ur workout u eat like mad to grow?

and early in the morning when gylcogen is depleted, u go for a work to burn off fats at the same time losing some muscle?

does it work?

I'm a total newbie in BB.

183cm. 70kg. I can do roughly around 2 reps of push up. each 10 times.

got a bit of tummy. and i'm hitting the gym recently. but i know nothing about BB.

So any big bros here can tell me what should I do? I'm not the kind of hardcore builder. I still eat what I like to eat. Just control on my carbs.

I'm not planning to get a 5 packs. Would like to focus mainly on my biceps and triceps and chest.

So what should I do everyday?

Cardio to reduce my tummy? How long?
Lifting weight how many times?

Using free weights seems to have a faster result than using machines right? So if I want to build muscles, use free weight?

Can someone guide me what should I aim for? Like sort of a week program for me to follow. And I can do the neccessary adjustment from there? Would appreciate it a lot. Thanks.

A weight that's not too light, or too heavy for you to finish the necessary reps per set. It depends on the individual.

I keep them in big ass containers and just store them there until when I need to bring them out as meals. When I do, I'll just either reheat them in the microwave or if I'm free, throw them on the non-stick pan and re heat them there and there.

user posted image

Nothing but grilled chicken (plain, no oil, not even olive oil) and there's around 4/5 cups of rice(measured b4 cooked) with like 6 - 7 eggs in the mix, to mix a fried rice(plain, no oil)

I'd suggest invest in a good non-stick pan. I got mine at around 300 bucks in Jusco on sale. It's a bit expensive, but it's worth it, considering I can truly remove the oil.

P/s - this was last week's.

that depends on whether I was cutting or bulking. When I was cutting, that would have lasted me just past a week, maybe 8 days, I'm on a short bulking period(3 weeks) currently, probably around 4 -5 days.

Calorie deficit is necessary to help cut, but that doesn't mean you have to be hungry all the time. Changing up your carbs will help a lot, vegetables are good source of carbs to fill the stomach with pretty much empty calories. So by all means, devour as much as you want. I posted before about slow gradual changes, assess your body based on the mirror or a scale. Heck, I'd suggest you take pictures every week to compare, it'll be a great motivator as well just to see the changes you're making every week. Men generally store body fats around the midsection and the lower back, and your limbs will be the first one to get lean before them midsection b!tches start loosening up. It's all about how bad you want it mate. Let me see if I can get a picture somewhere of my current state. I definitely have a picture of me 44lbs heavier around 13 weeks ago. It's fully clothed though, too shy to show the body.

Attached Image

PLEASE DONT MAKE MY PICTURE INTO A MEME. I dont have a full body picture on my current, but i'll post up what I have found or maybe I'll get my girl to take one full picture later. Hopefully you guys get the idea. It's all about how bad you want it actually. You want it bad enough, you control your environment, you do what you need to do and you will succeed.

I was 110kg here. I'm currently 90kg.

If you can find them spray on cooking oil, you can save on the frying pan. Problem is there isn't any spraying cooking oil to be found in ipoh.

Man, I used to be at mcdonald's every other day. I ate soo much sugar and junk I had high blood sugar( so close to being diabetic).

Hmm, about bb.com, try going over to Kris Gethin's 12 week hardcore program. That's how I shed 44lbs in 12 weeks. Damn DTP is some crazy ass program. 10 sets, 50 rep, 40 rep,30 rep,20 rep,10 reps,10 ,20,30,40,50. Pyramid weight up peaking at 10, the pyramid back down. .

I remember reading somewhere if you put them over 80degrees or slightly lower it will break down the nutritional values, but I can't really remember. Reheating shouldnt be straight out maximum temperature right? I know my food is warm and that's enough. Not really enough to make them smoke come out like when we're just done cooking

This should explain a little bit more.

VS gym, opposite Sam Poh Tong. I tried out Fitness Embassy once, tried PowerMan, new gym(not bad actually). But I still prefer VS.

I have a question here.

Instead of doing the bulking/cutting phase

WhAt happens if
Workout day - eat as normal with additional 500 calories to grow which of course comes with very low fat

Resting day a 500 calories deficit for the body to tap into fats for energy thus losing fats

Overall won't we grow muscles without fats in a slow pace?

And not lok fat in the process heh

I wonder, during cutting phase, is it alright to have a drastic drop in calories to make the body burn fats faster while maintaining the same amount of protein intake per day
With workout as well?
With 5-6 meals per day

I'm losing weight like 1.5 kg per week and my arms are getting smaller

Doesnt it speak for itself? By making the body burn more fats with the drop in calories per day which will also lower the metabolism overtime.

Do you know what ur talking or asking before u speak?
Speaking in that manner just proves ur a 23 yr old air head

I'm not sure what you are trying to do , but to my knowledge, if you drop your carbs too low, your metabolism will slam shut to save energy.

you're in a cutting phase, of course you're getting smaller. losing 1.5 kg per week to me is quite okay i think, since you'll lose water weight as well. are you doing cardio? dont cut carbs off totally too, you still need carbs even though you're in a cutting phase

try to limit your weight lost to 1.5lbs per week (Layne Norton). Max is 2lbs (other bber) per week. So you dont lose too much of your muscle.

I get hungry too especially at night when low in calories.

Out of 6 meals, 2 meals will consist of only protein shake 26 g, apple and some wheat crackers for abit of calories so therefore should not have adrastic drop in calories consumption but i do intense cardio during offdays tho.

Protein intake should be around 150-160g per day as i weight at 83 kg, 179cm

Not familiar with the area. But just single day? Do pushups, lunges, squats with no weights, types of body weight exercises. Or you hit hard weights the few days before.Run around and do some cardio that day. It's still a workout after all.

one thing i hate about bb'ing is, imagine u've had the ideal number of carbs and protein ratio and fats for the day, suddenly u cant go gym due to work/illness/emergency
then there's the fear that all you've eaten will simply turn into fat and shrink you

crap isnt it

hello everyone. have been loitering here for quite some time d. first time posting anything here. I just a few questions about BB

I always want to bulk up a bit and I did pack on 10kg in 2 years. But i still look skinny. Partly because I am inconsistent in training and i'm not having proper diet. Ya, i know all my vice tongue.gif

however, i think my main problem is with my cardio. I'm a long-distance runner. i run up to 2 full marathons a year and when i prepare for my marathons, i seldom have time to lift weight (i have to run 4-5 times a week to hit like at least 50km++ a week).

so, is there anyone here who runs regularly but still manages to bulk up? I know i have to choose either one of them but any sifu here can advice a bit on this?

Thanks in advance.

agree with you.. need to be patient and really have the passion during cutting...

I never have six pack in my life before, i hope i can do it once so i just try out... to get into the level of bodybuilder, really need time, determination, discipline and sweat...

I've been eating like this for 2 weeks and really crave for big meal but still manage to control...

agree with you.. need to be patient and really have the passion during cutting...

I never have six pack in my life before, i hope i can do it once so i just try out... to get into the level of bodybuilder, really need time, determination, discipline and sweat...

I've been eating like this for 2 weeks and really crave for big meal but still manage to control...

what do u guys think about stronglifts.com?
it says split training is CRAP (which I've always been doing)
and i have difficulty understanding what it says about the form.. that's why i haven't start the program.

HELP. oh i haven't really train with the barbel in my life. just dumbbells work.

split is crap for beginners but not for pro body builders.
the general concept of stronglift is eat a lot + lift heavy > gain
it doesn't really build that much muscle though but your strength will go up very very fast, it's a strength program after all.
if you're just starting off you probably want to start with that to build some strength first as a base and then you can jump to body building style of training when you get tired of it
there aren't many pros here really, just a couple of people like darklight bata ken etc etc who really knows what they are doing..too much broscience here dude.
do some search on bb.com/tnation and such but avoid being eaten raw by marketing scheme. haha

Testing new cycle.

Protein blend.
Creatine Mono.
Pwo - Kinda fatigued after work, this helps. SPM.
BCAAs and Citrulline Malate - Xtend (Burning a hole in my wallet at the rate I'm going through it)

Diet caloric intake remains unchanged, though fat burn cardio incorporated after workouts to lean out. 3-4 lifting days, 2 cardio days and 1 rest day.

I thought with the increased cardio I might see a drop in weight, but it's a 2 kg gain in 9 days.

how much do i spent.. well i don't really calculate much but i can giv a list for a week.

4 hl milk x RM 6.29 (new with plant sterol)
18 piece chicken breast + 2 chicken = RM 78 which i bought last saturday
vege (tomato, cucumber, lettuce ++) = around RM 10
4 box of egg( 10 eggs each) x RM 4.20
2 wholemeal bread ( gardenia or high 5) x RM 3.20
cheese/nut/seed = didn't calculate because it can last quite long

only lunch time, sometime the chicken too plain or too hungry, one economy rice just cost me Rm2.00 - 2.50 (rice and veggie)

there goes for a week.. not including protein and other stuff...

costly?

It's quite simple. Want to look like a bodybuilder train like one. Want to look like a powerlifter, train like one. Cause and effect. Some idiots will say train like a powerlifter eat like a bodybuilder. Meh... A powerlifter will still look like a powerlifter no matter how much he diets down. Sure some will use examples like Ronnie Coleman and Johnny Jackson as bodybuilders who came from powerlifting backgrounds but for every one of those, there is a successful bodybuilder who did a bodybuilding split from day 1 of training.

And even if they came from powerlifting, they still used splits when they switched to bodybuilding. However we can't really compare ourselves to pros. There just too many varriables to consider. Do what you think its best for YOU.

I do agree starting strength is great for beginners. Ain't gonna do much if you're benching 20 kilos for months on end

btw I need to ask on chest exercise. do i need to lift heavier or more reps?

I did bench press at home but due to limited weight i can only do more reps instead of more reps, like up to 20 reps per set, and its not really showing progress....
with limited weights, you could;

1) Add in plyo pushups in between sets.

2) or warm up with kinetic stretches for chest before benching. It helps to activate the smaller muscle fibres.

3) or you could do 1 set of maybe 20-40 reps bench-dips/diamond pushups first before you start benching. Wear out your triceps so you could engage more chest.

4) play with tempo. vary it. try 8-1-2-1, or 5-0-5-2, or just be creative! (eccentric-stretched-concentric-contracted)

just my two cents.

Guys, wanna ask sth about whey protein consumption. I have Myofusion now and let's say i wanna consume 3 scoops per day. Which one would be a better combination?

1) 1 scoop after wake up + 1 scoop post workout + 1 scoop before bed, OR
2) 1 scoop after wake up + 2 scoops post workout

Will this make a difference since I am consuming the same amount of protein per day?

I used to do this when i started consuming whey protein but I'm afraid it will be too 'concentrated' at one time. Thats why i need to ask if it makes any difference if I take whey at different time

I usually prefer to take food with carb rather than protein for pre wo. Protein shake kinda lasts quite long b4 I could take NO.

to burn fat, we need to be in caloric deficit right.

but what if after the weight training, i have depleted my energy/glycogen stores, i hop on the treadmill for about 15-20 mins.
did i burn fat at THAT TIME on the treadmill ?

lil bit of confused here. help me out.

First day trying out Superpump Max. I assumed when the label said to take it 15-45 minutes, that the focus/drive/energy would come in like 20-30 minutes. Instead I got a sudden surge of energy right at the end of my workout, which was about an hour later. And right now, I feel like the Duracell bunny on happy pills. sweat.gif

Leave them be. I don't know you well enough to comment but a lot of young punks seem to get this elitist I'm better than thou kind of mentality when they start weightlifting for a few years and are far, far, far from getting huge. Not targeting you, just sayin. Take a look at big guys like Kmaru, angrydog, free_enuf... and professionals like Wong Hong and Terry Gallyot.

They rarely diss people or act condescending. They educate, not humiliate. Some people need a lesson in humility. Is this why there's never a big attendance in a H & F meetup? =)

LOL...it will subside as you use it longer, had similar effect when I first started... you bought the 40 servings tub?

Heh I'm actually praying it doesn't subside, cause it feels awesome. Though I'll have to take it quite some time before I start training to actually get the effects DURING my workout and not after. XD

He only did close grip push up in the video, what about wide grip push up?? what i mean is, does the video say close grip push up better than wide grip?? as far as i know, they work different part of muscle as wide grip gives more tension on pecs.

I have this excessive sweating problem on my palms and feet. So I will be doing this surgery where they make 2 incisions near my chest to clip the glands. Damn, gonna say bye to my bench presses for some time. Wonder if the doc will use more force to cucuk since our chest muscles are stiffer

QUOTE
I'm going to assume that most of the males reading this can do at least 7-8 bodyweight pull-ups, with whatever grip you prefer. If you can't, and have been training for more than a few years, take this as a wake-up call that you seriously need to reconsider your training, nutrition, or both. Read this article from T NATON contributor Tim Henriques and get to work. If you can already do 7-8 reps, keep reading.

This is something I don't understand. I notice quite a few bodybuilding oriented trainees like taking training advice from a powerlifting oriented site. Why?

I'm a firm believer that strength gains = great physique.

Yea its more powerlifting oriented for sure, but its still knowledge. I just generally browse through these sites for their articles and bodybuilding threads. To date other than trying to change my benching style I still have not tried any powerlifting techniques and routines there.

The posters there are very informative, and are huge mofos. Can't hurt to see what they write

Because my goal is to achieve mass akin to greg plitt's, I gotta say, I dont really care about philosophy behind strength training and powerlifting and kettlebells
Not to say they dont work, just depends on goals lah I believe
If Im adding poundages in my current routine with good form and good reps = im getting stronger nuff said

consume whey immediately after u train.......

u need 1.5hr for weights and 1 hr for cardio?
way pass the prime window...i think it's recommended to keep ur trainin within 1 hr.
if not, ur body starts to break down muscle for energy...

keep ur weights day n cardio day apart...

i do cosgrove complex as cardio on my rest day

Tried simple workout with dumbells at home half an hour before iftar just now. Felt like dying after 20mins. I have no idea what would happen if I were at the gym.

Anyway, myb its because I can't seems to eat like I normally do on sahur. Too sleepy or something, have to work this one out. Lots of carbs during sahur right?

i dunno if this happens to everyone but fasting seems to do something weird to me in the gym
i suddenly got this super pump effect and focus and phenomenal stamina even with rest time of 20 seconds between sets of about 15 reps each (total 5 sets each part)

as for your question, there's no right or wrong approach as to the number of macros u require for puase time
depends on your goals
but slow release complex carbs and protein blends help a lot (although i dont take blends masa sahur but take half chicken or 3 fish instead) haha
