exercise that target rotator cuff suppose to be done with very small weight, 0.5kg, 1kg is more than enough. If you do it with more weight, you overdo it... if you are doing it without weight... than I would suggest you to be patience... take it slowly. If you want to continue shoulder exercise, take off weight until you feel comfortable, lift light. If still hurt, stop shoulder exercise wait for 1,2 days, see if problem solved. If still hurt, just stop shoulder exercise and start doing rotator cuff exercise. You can also try to do other kind of shoulder exercise and see if it is OK. Sometimes, only a specific exercise giving problems...
~sosostupid, I would suggest you go to clinic and get a refer letter to go to hospital. The doctor would know better... At the mean time, you can try to do exercise as discuss in another thread. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1899526/+20 This post has been edited by hoxy: Jul 15 2011, 07:30 AM |

obviously you've been experiencing this issue for a prolong time. Just stop doing bench press and start doing rotator exercise. Take a day or 2 day rest before doing rotator exercise can be considered too.
do you feel the pain doing bench press with barbell at the bottom position? Reducing the range of motion (stopping half the rep, not going deep enough) might help. Same goes for barbell shoulder press (elbow should be pointing forward, not flared out to the side). Try to switch to dumbell version see if the irritation comes from doing barbell exercise... If it hurts, you can consider doing bodyweight exercise such as push up and handstand push up as a replacement altogether. |

You should know that I dont do bench press and I only do push up. I find push up is really tough and I know how to make push up tough. I have progressed to 1 arm push up a long time ago, and it is a real fun and a real cool move especially if I decided to workout outdoor with so many people can just watch and cant do what I do. I never feel a pain from push up even with 1 arm 1 leg push up (arm to the side).
Now back to bench press, obviously now your problem is technique. Bench press is a very technical lift, you better get your technique right. Technique falls apart with heavy weight, your body pay the price. No matter the weight is light or heavy... just maintain good technique. It is natural that you feel pain during the concentric part (going up). You can try to cut the rep half and see whether the pain reduce a little. And... retract your shoulder. The moment you lift your shoulder you have lose the retract shoulder (if you doing it already) and your shoulder joint will take the full load, hence the pain. If you have never retract your shoulder, then my friend... you need to stop doing bench press and start researching more on bench press technique. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/progressive6.htm This post has been edited by hoxy: Jul 19 2011, 07:43 AM |

Dont worry, you'll find out someone suitable for you. Women outnumber men greatly now... just need to search the right ones and bear with the process of getting to know with each other, and all the argument and fighting.

That is some heavy weight! Respect! 83~85% of your BW? Damn, am I slacking on my training? I need to do dip 42kg just to be in the same weight ratio with you... I think it is doable, but still... darklight79 you are one strong big dude. I think you can do it heavier, lets show some real weighted dip now.
Looking forward to it. |

QUOTE(darklight79 @ Aug 11 2011, 09:30 AM) My pressing power is naturally strong compared to pulling power. Max bench for 5-6 is around 345lbs compared to bb rows which is only 280 plus for 6-7. Huge difference. And with my lower back injury I don't dare go too heavy with rows so most of my workouts consist of machines. Everyone's got advantages and disadvantages bro. |

QUOTE(statikinetic @ Aug 15 2011, 09:22 PM) Seriously bad day for me. One of those days where everything seems to go wrong and the things you're trying to avoid hits you in the face. 1) Spine decompression hangBlur enough to cut my knuckles, don't know how so was bleeding through the sets a bit. On the deadlift at 275, which is relatively heavy for me, started well enough. A couple of sets of 225, then up to 275. First pull to get that deadweight moving upwards, felt that dreaded small pop/snap in the middle of my lower back. "Oh f***" Lowered the bar immediately. Thankfully it wasn't a sharp pain indicating a slipped disc, suspect more of a muscle issue. But it was seriously sore throughout, took some focus to finish the rest of the workout. At times could barely pick up the DBs off the floor. What pisses me off is it wasn't even a PR attempt. Gotta KIV some exercises like the squats until further notice. Grrr. 2) McKenzie backbend 3) Bridge For back injury, normally it tend to happen outside of working out time. It is what we do after working out that decided the injury level. Deadlift heavy weight, and then spend time doing forward bending (eg. sitting, driving with improper posture, picking DB). So, practice 3 of above after workout. I want everyone lifting here have a healthy back. |

QUOTE(razorboy @ Aug 16 2011, 06:42 PM) 1 scoop of rice? Sometimes I really wonder how you guys eat so little carbs to last throughout the day. Even when I cut I never go beyond half a cup of rice. A proper measuring cup. Our body burn our muscle for fuel. We lost weight at a rapid pace. Strength gradually decrease... |
