Not to say cannot...in lab test we manage to get under ideal environment...but it's not performing consistently ...hence we don't recommend it.

Sorry to say this: I worry later there are a lot of customer complaint that they cannot get 1Gbps with WiFi after installed, pay more but cannot enjoy the 1Gbps speed ... because not everyone will use network cable sweat.gif

Will be bottleneck by the CPU. That’s why TIME is offering the DIR-882 for 1Gbps, as they anticipate this will happen.

Well, what will happen if TIME offer lower package plan for example:
50Mbps @ RM69...? hmm.gif
Because I still believe there are still a lot of people prefer pay less to get "resonable" speed sweat.gif

Gigabit on WiFi is easy, just not cheap.

Time to cancel TM UniFi, weeks been bounced between TM Point, hotline, live chat and online form to upgrade to 100Mbit plan. I bet TIME will have no problem upgrading me, and building just got it installed last week.

Need to make the Ubiquiti gear sweat a little bit.

I'm curious what you guys use for the 1Gbps bandwidth?
Not asking about example but the actual usage that you will fully utilize it.

Hi guys, just wanted to ask Tenda AC6 router can support 500Mbps on WiFi or not? I was upgraded to 500Mbps but can only get 90+Mbps on 5Ghz using Note 9. Wondering if it's something I need to change in settings or the router cannot support it? Will the TP-Link 1200AC which is being offered for free by TIME be able to support 500Mbps on WiFi?

I don't think it will hit those speed , even the Archer AC1200 TIME given can't hit those speed for me , highest i can get are around 200~300.

If I go with the free router upgrade the previous router is still mine right? I'm using a tm ac1200 which I converted to time with a firmware upgrade. It works great with 300mbps before but since they upgraded me to 1gbps, nothing really changes with my wireless speed.

My wired sometimes do 500mbps now but I'm curious what a ac2600 router can do.

Even if I can get that (200-300) it will be good enough. Will changing bandwidth or channel on Tenda settings be any helpful? If so, what are the optimal settings?

Even if I can get that (200-300) it will be good enough. Will changing bandwidth or channel on Tenda settings be any helpful? If so, what are the optimal settings?
*
Not familiar with your router, maybe other sifu here can help. but for me with AC1200 all is on default setting without tuning anything to it.

My desktop with Wifi was able to get 200~300 depend on the mood of my PC doh.gif

My iPhone 6s can hit 300 consistently.

I'm curious what you guys use for the 1Gbps bandwidth?
Not asking about example but the actual usage that you will fully utilize it.
*
1st important point is "how many people share?"? If 4 or more people use it, then everyone can enjoy youtube / online streaming smoothly. If just 1 or 2 person, depends on what the usage, if streaming movie/drama/youtube, now can stream higher quality (2k or 4k).
Another usage is download FHD, 2K or 4K (25GB to 50GB+) movies and can enjoy after maybe 5 or 10 minutes sweat.gif

Just to add, when testing make sure you're not using Powerline adapters. Was using Aztech's HL128EP right now and only hitting 300Mbps. When using cable directly to router (Archer C3200) can reach 1Gbps.

I'm guessing the noise or some setting maxing it out at 300Mbps. sad.gif Time to buy new lan cables

*
It will be a significant difference. A mid-range router can't compare with a high-range router.

Power cycle, turn off both modem and router. Turn on the modem and wait until its done starting up. Once the connection light is on turn on the router.

Check your cable from fiber modem to router.

Make sure your router lan is a gigabit lan. Connect a cat5e cable or above to your laptop or desktop. Run speed test.

Yes. It is really good. If you want something cheaper, you can try the TP-Link C3150 v2 or TP-Link C2300.

Something is capping your speed at 100Mbps. Highly likely it is your router. Please check the specs of your router.

Hi guys,

Currently on Maxis Fibre (for past few years dy). Wanna switch over to TIME 100Mbps RM99.

1) How long is waiting time to schedule TIME installation?
2) Is there any installation fee, or can just use the Maxis wiring?
3) Do I need to cancel Maxis first, then wait?
4) What is the relocation charge if move house?

few factors, from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz channel , your phone capability, your modem, your computer wireless adapter card.
Mine test with Redmi note 4 just under 100mbps...But when use iphone 6s plus connect to the 5gzh channel..boommm..300Mbps. so it has been upgraded.

To those who wants to do actual test to confirm, use your laptop/pc and connect directly to the lan cable.

I think its not peoples don't want choose Time, it is Time don't have coverage at their places, you can see lot of peoples demanding Time to extent the coverage to their areas.

hi guys any idea - i'm using a huawei router connected to dlink dir 850l and still getting 100mbps over wifi?

Tested the speed on a Note 9 over 5ghz.
*
Me too.

Manage to update firmware coz i never update it since time installation and now can get 230+ Mbps on 5Ghz. Luckly I remember to screenshot my TIME username and password coz router will be reset after updating firmware done.

Using LAN can get 500Mbps easily.

Need to upgrade router wink.gif

Check your cable from fiber modem to router.

Make sure your router lan is a gigabit lan. Connect a cat5e cable or above to your laptop or desktop. Run speed test.

Hello Ree73, thank you for replying. My router is AC1200, the default one provided by TIME themselves. Also, I am connected using cat6 cable but my speed is not hitting 500Mbps.

Is there any configurations that needs to be done?

Yes. It is really good. If you want something cheaper, you can try the TP-Link C3150 v2 or TP-Link C2300.
Something is capping your speed at 100Mbps. Highly likely it is your router. Please check the specs of your router.
Nope. AC86U is newer, and have better specs and yes, you have to compare other aspects.

few factors, from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz channel , your phone capability, your modem, your computer wireless adapter card.
Mine test with Redmi note 4 just under 100mbps...But when use iphone 6s plus connect to the 5gzh channel..boommm..300Mbps. so it has been upgraded.

To those who wants to do actual test to confirm, use your laptop/pc and connect directly to the lan cable.
*
Thank you for the reply, kopiride. Mine is connected and tested using my desktop, with is connected by cat6 Lan cable as well. Do you know why I'm not getting 500Mbps? sad.gif icon_question.gif

Hi Guys,

As usual my router is the Dlink DIR-850L and I've been upgraded to 500mbps.

Been getting download speed of 190~250mbps over Wi-fi (5ghz) with my note 8 (standing right next to the router). If i move further away, the download speed dropped till about 100mbps

With Lan Cat5E + laptop i was able to achieve 480mbps.

Called Time and the customer sevice guy advised me to redeem the free TP-Link AC1200 router from selfcare.time.com.my and it can help me achieve better WIFI speed.

I am wondering if this TP-Link AC1200 would make any difference to my WIFI speed?
If the difference is very small, I dont think its worthwhile for me to redeem it as there will be a 24-month contract renewal.

Any advice guys?

I get up to 500Mbps on WiFi, but when my computer is connected to LAN, it's still capped at 100Mbps. Same as my TV on LAN. Is there a setting I'm missing? Using default Huawei and D-Link 850L and all cables are CAT 5e. Just strange that WiFi is over 200Mbps on all devices but LAN is not.

Nope. It won’t. Check the link on my signature for list of compatible routers. You should get the C2300 for the chance of getting 500Mbps.

Yep, check the router to see if you have set your LAN port to 1000Mbps manually. See page 55: https://4amlxms1bqq223a181oxyv35-wpengine.n..._2.00_EN_US.pdf

Anyway, the product features of the tplink ac1200 says it has "Achievable speeds of up to 450Mbps over WiFi."

Wonder how accurate is this.

Most of UHD TV has Ethernet card (LAN port) 10/100Mbps.
I check yesterday my Sharp UA6800X.....on LAN only 95Mbps.
WiFi 2.4 and 5GHz is OK.

Is there a guide somewhere for me to refer to for installation/set up?

I can assist you to setup 3rd party router.

First thing, get the PPPOE details ready.

those of you on 500mbps/1gbps but still getting 100mbps up/down on wired, make sure your network adapter is configured to 1gbps

also if you're on cat6 cable and you cant enable 1gbps on your network settings, make sure you plugged the cable properly. sometimes the port might be a master or slave and so you will have to plug the cable accordingly.

Hi, not to confuse with the TIME Voice Plan.

The table mention whole thing black means apply to all plans.
Customers can either choose one. Voice Home Basic is the default option to all the plans.
Or upgrade Voice Home Lite or Max to entitle for the free minutes.

Thanks.

My DIR-850L have some problems.
The router kept showing orange globe.

When I login into the router, the internet disconnected till I reboot it.
And IPV6 no longer usable.

Oh sweat.gif . The table really confused me.
So if I downgrade from 100Mbps @ RM149 to 100Mbps @ RM99.
Maybe after 1 or 2 months if I want to subscribe RM10 free 300min voice call, I just subscribe it thru selfcare website and will get free dect phone? hmm.gif
Does impact to current contract?

Wait, my previous plan is 100Mbps @ RM149 , so now TIME upgraded to 500Mbps @ RM139 with voice home basic (pay as you use) which still under 2 year contract. so if now I downgrade to 100Mbps @ RM99 and will force to reset 24 months contract, right?
So meaning if I subscribe "Voice Home Max" on Feb 2019, my contract reset 24 months start on Feb 2019 again? confused.gif

*
TIME change speed and Voice plan thing is different.

Need to verify this.

Thanks.

my speedtest download usually at 960Mbps using TIME TP-Link Archer C1200 router, CAT6 cable.
If you're using Windows 10, download the speedtest from Microsoft store. It doesn't use so much CPU as HTML speedtest
If you're using HTML for speedtest, it will hit your CPU hard. (Mine even had avira antivirus cpu usage spike during html speedtest)

Hi, my laptop can only connect to 2.4ghz wifi with a speed of 40mbps for my 100mbps plan. Iphone can get the 100mbps speed under 5ghz wifi

I have yet to get the upgrade to 500mbps, but how much can my laptop wifi speed realistically increase to under 2.4ghz with the 500mbps package?

Don't expect high speed on 2.4GHz, 5GHz probably u will get 150--250Mbps on this C5, depends on your receiving device as well.

then it is down to your motherboard network adapter/network card. maybe just support up to 100Mbps. You need to get a external adapter that is up to 1Gbps.

Reading through the thread ..
Many have issues achieving the speed.
Client hardware plays a role too to achieve the speed.
You want amazing WiFi speed. .change your router...there is a reason why in the market they have wireless router which cost more than 2K...if a RM200 router can give u gigabit WiFi...what's the point of manufacture selling those high end wireless router and wireless cards.
So far the bes I've experienced is Killer WiFi..

Any routers can do that?

Yes, can.
You can get one of those business APs, like Ubiquity or Aruba. Then you can have multiple allocations with multiple SSIDs and manage them up to your heart's content. It's cheaper than some of the more expensive routers....but too much work for me lah.

Hi,
I know this is going to sound stupid, but how do I get max speed through wireless for 500mbps? Right now I am able to get up to 100mbps only on wireless; LAN goes up to 500mbps. I guess I need to upgrade either the router (TPLink AC1200) or receiver (Asrock Z370M wifi, Intel 802.11ac WiFi).
Any sifu pls advise with recommendation? thank you!

DIR-882 is only faster when you have a 4 stream capable client.

Eg: Asus PCE-AC88. Else you are better off with C2300.

Find ways to improve the signal strength.

You can explore mesh solution like the Deco M5 or AiMesh.

I am pretty sure you can get 500Mbps with dual RT-AC88U mesh setup. biggrin.gif

Dear all sifu,

Need your help.. I am on 300mbps previously and got upgraded to 1gbps.. My current ONU and router is under the staircase, and blocked by brickwalls. I am in landed property, therefore it is difficult to find a sweet spot for router placement. sad.gif

1. If I subscribe to get the free router, do I need to return the old DIR850L?
2. If I can keep the old router, can I not move ONU and DIR850L from where it is now, and instead connect the new router at my living room via ethernet cable?
3. My cable has already been embedded in the wall, and prefer not to do any hacking.... Can the network be configured this way? (ie. ONU > DIR850L > DIR-882) If yes, would the Installer help to configure it?
4. Will this slow down the wifi speed I receive at the living area? (ie. less than 500mbps)

Thank you.

Hi, I still have contract with time until mid of Jan 2019.
Currently I am using RM149 100Mbs package.
What they offer is RM139 500Mbs now.

If I opted to change to RM99 100Mbs, how is my contract, will it auto renew to another 24 months?

If yes, if I change it on jan 2019, from RM139 to RM99, will I get a contract with them again?

I do not need any router from them as I am using Asus RT-AC1200G

I am using asus rt ac5300 + tplink t9e. I dont think hardware is an issue? Maybe i should upgrade my pcie card to asus pce-ac88?

Both wifi and lan cable gets 600mbps only.

Impossibru.

try to connect just one device and do the speedtest on that device. if other devices are also using the internet it can hamper your speedtest result

Congrats on V4!!

Very satisfied with the 500mbps even though have to use LAN to hit those speed.

Was this tested using the DIR850L router? I've yet to test it with a PC but plugged a cable to my PS4 and highest it managed one time only was 300Mbps. Other times it averaged about 250Mbps.
Mine is an upgrade from 100 to 500.

Find ways to improve the signal strength.

You can explore mesh solution like the Deco M5 or AiMesh.

I am pretty sure you can get 500Mbps with dual RT-AC88U mesh setup. biggrin.gif
*
Yeah, definitely. I don't even live in a bungalow or landed property, but the thick walls plus extreme interference from other wifi networks nearby make a mesh solution a necessity

C2300, C3150, C5400 and C5400X are pretty much out of stock in most places.

I saw C2300 in LYP on Saturday, not sure is it still there. Can't remember which stock.

Why am I getting lied to by TIME? I get an email stating I've been upgraded but in actual fact I'm not.

I call customer support only to wait 30 minutes before I get to speak to someone, and this guy was totally unprepared to handle calls decided to blame my settings to my Asus RT68U of not being able to support 500Mbps.

Then I get another call from another person who I'm guessing is level 2 support, but by now I've decided that I do not need 500Mbps within Malaysia therefore I have downgraded to 100Mbps with a renewed 24 month contract.

This utterly rubbish. First I get lied to, then TIME insults my equipment (I probably took more offense to this than anything else), then I got told if I move to a new residence and if TIME is not available there, I have to pay a penalty for their shortfall.

Already tried.

Its the same.

Is like the ISP clone my mac address or something and put a limit to it.

First when i get the 1gbps is very fast. Speedtest 980mbps. Then i tried DL 80gb of 4k movie to test the speed. Not 5 minutes later it disconnect. Cannot login for maybe half an hour then managed to login. Speedtest all become 500-600mbps ish. Once it hit 600mbps it will auto disconnect.

Weird stuff. Router seems to be ok. Router cpu utilization also very low.

Hi guys, I'm using TP-Link Archer C5400 and my TIME internet has been upgraded to 1Gbps. Speedtest could achieve 936 Mbps / 502 Mbps using CAT5e but still the max speed over wifi is 512 Mbps / 496 MbpsRouter is on the latest firmware. Tested using Macbook Pro 2017 and iPhone X.

The Archer C5400 is on the latest firmware and all the devices is located in the same room.

Any sifu could advice me on how to achieve max speedtest over the wifi?

If your MBP is the non-touch bar variant, 500Mbps is the peak speed of the AC1200 WiFi card.

Those are limited to 2x2 mimo and only capable of 500mbps. As a matter of fact all phones are 500mbps limited to my knowledge.

U wanna 800mbps+ wireless u gotta look for 3x3 or 4x4 mimo. One good one is pce-ac88. Fastest wireless adapter in the world.

Is there a solution to the wifi speed? Need to get a new router? any recommendation for router? Cheap cheap one is preferable.

Thanks. So there is no mesh system that can do full gigabit over wifi?

AiMesh

Dual RT-AC5300 and LAN to your computer. laugh.gif

At that price I will hire a contractor to conceal a wire and repatch my wall and probably still be cheaper. laugh.gif

Is C3150 considers a really big upgrade over C2300? I'm on 500mbps, just to catch up the wifi speed. No issue on LAN.

Currently using Huawei WS880 with Asus Merlin/Vortex firmware. Getting around 200-300mbps only on wifi.

Hahah so true. My neighbor also on TIME did exactly that. But I have no time to do all these wall hacking, etc, so I'll settle with a Lyra mesh solution. Consistent coverage (100Mbps, even) is important.

Actually there are many routers have bottleneck around 800 Mbps, their max is around 800-900 Mbps, cannot assume 800 Mbps routers also support 1000 Mbps

One example from my customer with TIME 1Gbps:

I don't understand the FAQ.

So if I am still under existing contract, there is only option to downgrade without router. Does this mean that I need to return my router and get a new one at my own expenses?

I find it hard to classify beyond that point especially on some models that peak at 800Mbps with certain features enabled. That is why I placed a blanket exception that certain features will impact the speed.

I do have an exception on models that are known to bottleneck at 800Mbps.

Installer needs to install & test the wired & wireless performance at various spots in your unit, too bad this is the required SOP.

Thanks.

Downgraded my plan to rm139 500/500 from my previous rm189 300/300.

More than enough for me since I could only get 850/500 anyway on wired connection with the 1gbps package after the upgrade.

My ac68u Wi-Fi maxes out about 350mbps. Time to think about tri-band mesh for better speed with wider range biggrin.gif

Thank you.

Those wifi chip is built into laptop casing. Without those antenna like pcie cards reckon quite hard to reach 1gbps unless u next to it.

Either that or the router is not real 3x3 mimo. Not much exp with tplink 5400 to be honest but kinda surprisrd hw cheap it is.

The ethernet port can only support 1Gb (theoretical max). So with the overheads in the TCP packets, you can never get full 1gbps. Theroretical max is around 950mbps with overheads (wired speed).

for WIFI, you need at least 3x3 MIMO. both router & wireless device must have at least 3x3 MIMO to get that kind of speed.

This plan is under ASTRO. You should called up ASTRO and clarify and complaint to them. Even you bill came, it's under ASTRO that supplied TIME Fibre to you. This has nothing to do with TIME.

Yes I agree, but it’s the same for other categories like 500 Mbps and so on, when intensive features are enabled their speed will be vastly different.

I guess we still can list out the results from other users here to have the idea.

i won't even call it downgrade...

i'm in 100Mbps.. i did not ask for upgrade to 500Mbps..
i'm not given a choice to stay in 100Mbps or upgrade to 500Mbps
now that i want to remain in 100Mbps for RM99, i have to reset my contract for another 24mths? this is not fair to me at all..

i'm totally not agree with resetting contract.
i won't even call it downgrade...

i'm in 100Mbps.. i did not ask for upgrade to 500Mbps..
i'm not given a choice to stay in 100Mbps or upgrade to 500Mbps
now that i want to remain in 100Mbps for RM99, i have to reset my contract for another 24mths? this is not fair to me at all..
how long i've waited now counting down last few months..  ranting.gif

How much were you paying for your 100Mbps?

Why go back to 100mbps if you're paying the same fee or less but with 500mbps speed?

Also is there a better isp than time currently? I got upgraded to 1gbps and got the router upgrade too. I mean, I'm not getting the speed nor better service (in my exp) than time.

i only need 100Mbps and i can pay lesser now with RM99.. why force me to pay more?

So now think of it as getting Rm10 discount and as for the speed, pretend you still getting 100Mbps
After your contract ends, then switch to Rm99 plan

You’re not paying more but paying less now than before. Rm10 less in your case
If you downgrade, you can pay even less. Of course contract have to reset since your last contract not fulfilled
You intend to change ISP in the next 1 to 2 years?

You are on RM149 100mbps 2 year contract now?

And Time has revised to RM139 500mbps till the end of your 2 year contract?

Stick with the RM10 reduced plan until your current contract ends, if you're not certain about moving house in the next 24 months then.

About the termination penalty, I am not sure.

So I'm on the 1 Gbps package (500 previously) and I do not have the choice to get the new router for free, only the TP-Link AC1200 is showing up to redeem for free. Shouldn't my package be eligible for the new DIR-882 router as some people have been reporting that they are getting?

Imo, Its fair. You signed up the contract knowing what you get for the price you pay. You know what you have signed up for. Now they give you faster speed for same price. If you want cheaper price they allow with no penalty. Try compare with TM. They dont even allow contract change.

Besides, its not like anybody else offering better package. No problem signing up for 2 years, as far as i can see. And TIME always beats their competitor package.
*
TIME offer the best package indeed, i don't denied this. doesn't mean they should take it for granted.

but on this scenario i'm not agree with that fair thing. customer did not given a choice..
no problem for signing up to 2yrs for u, but there are problem for many others.. no problem to u doesn't mean no problem to others.

it's ok, i'm jz saying my opinion of not agreeing with the T&C.. i wont expect everyone share the same thought with me..
i do see some users sharing the same thought with me though on their FB page. cheers.

U try your stunt with Maxis or Digi.. Once contracted, you have to pay penalty to downgrade. Even worse.

U agreed with TIME for 100Mbps/RM149. Rightfully they can even maintain the package and you can't do anything. Consider it as goodwill that your speed was increased 500% with RM10 discount.

they do under government instruction.. which is cheaper and faster broadband.

I believe government instruction is for new contracts. Your original contrct is bound by the terms set in your agreed contract which is RM149/100MBPS.

U can check with your lawyers on this. TIME and to a certain extend maxis have provided goodwill by applying the new rates on existing contracts which in reality, they are not obliged.

So pls stop with the princess syndrome here.

I called support and they told me I have to wait for 90 days till the old promo ends before being eligible.

Look at this way:

Time introduced a new plan: 100mbps @99rm

Your previous 100mbps plan was upgraded to 500mbps.

Doesn't matter if you're getting the same 100mbps or 100GBPS.

You are not paying more.

Go talk to Time if you want to downgrade which probably will have you to end your current prematurely.

Try to restart your router and ONU.
Check your PC whether it supports 1Gbps and use CAT 5E cable and above.

Hmm 119rm for 500mbps with no contract or remaining contract vs 99rm 100mbps with 24 months renewal and you choose the later.

That's 20rm diff with 400mpbs bump with no renewal.

So, with my recent upgrade to 500Mbps, will the TP-Link Archer C7 be an adequate upgrade, or should I opt for something better like the Archer C3150?

Just want something that will do the job well for a small condo (not a landed property), and not overkill.

A budget of around RM700, I think.

Hello,

I guess most of you/us have been bumped up to 500mbps, I was wondering if my current router and modem is adequate to run the advertised 500mbps speed. The current router I have is the capsule looking type one haha! I forgot the brand biggrin.gif

Update: I guess the brand and model is a Dlink Cloud Router 1200 smile.gif

Archer C7 won't be able to fulfill your needs.

You should get at least AC2300.
Or you can order the DIR-882 from TIME.

2.4ghz max around 100mbps only.
5ghz around 300mbps is normal for 2xMimo AC receiver (most phone 1-2xMimo only).

so since got upgraded from 100mbps to 500mbps like 1~2 week ago,

i've been testing my speed everyday. (wanted to do more tests to make sure and since that time wasnt official so didnt want to make my case. but now that its officially upgraded to 500mbps so i'm bringing it up)

So.. I'm always getting 300mbps DL max only on LAN.
Testing using S8 also gets me 300mbps on WiFi.

Upload speeds hover around 200mbps as well..

So my question is how/where can i fix to get the full 500mbps.
Using stock router given by Time (DIR850)

Model Name: DIR-850L Hardware Version: B1 Firmware Version: 2.07

Is it normal for upload speed to be faster than download?
My dload always hit around 250Mbps max... but the upload can go up to 400Mbps.
I am the only one using the broadband and yet, the download speed doesn't exceed the upload...

Do I have to change any setting on the C1200?

Yep, check the router to see if you have set your LAN port to 1000Mbps manually. See page 55: https://4amlxms1bqq223a181oxyv35-wpengine.n..._2.00_EN_US.pdf

Hi SilentVampire,

Thanks for your recommendation for the C2300.

However, since we can get a D-Link DIR-882 from Time for only RM550 and free installation, should I get this DIR-882 instead of the C2300?

In your list of compatible routers, you have listed the D-Link DIR-882 can achieve up to 800mbps but the product features in Time selfcare only shows "Achievable speeds of up to 500Mbps over WiFi". (please refer to attachment).

What is your take on this bro?

Sorry for asking noob questions as I just want to make sure I am making the right decision before pulling the trigger.

Thanks in advance

I did state that it can achieve up to 800Mbps, but that is only in very optimal conditions.. I think I have a disclaimer at the bottom of the post lol. 500Mbps seem to be more likely, in real-life.

Honestly, the C2300 is better than the DIR-882 and it has better hardware specs, but it only has 3x3 MIMO compared to DIR-882 which has 4x4 MIMO, so it is ultimately up to you.

Most routers have Gigabit ports, yes, but whether the hardware inside the router can cope with the demands is another thing.

Five. A work PC, a laptop, a file server, an Android box and a smart TV, spread across three rooms via a Homeplug network currently, but a Cat 6 LAN will be put in within the next few months because I will be travelling overseas less and working from home. Which is why I am asking about an optimum router since I want the main one connected to the BTU/modem to be able to service the entire network through a switch.

OK. I got it.

Since your budget is RM 700 only.
You may get the AC2300 as SilentVampire mentioned that it is better than D-Link DIR-882

Or you can top up to get the AC5400X.

Thanks.

*
It is a 4X4 device. Maximum speed with your typical phones and laptops with 2 antennas is still 867Mbps. After degradation and interference, it is around 500Mbps. smile.gif

1.6K bro. So only AC2300 is the only choice.
AC3150 from TP-Link discontinued and D-Link 3200 is over budget for him. RM 100 extra.

AC5400 is worse than AC5400X.
AC5400X is going to replace AC5400.

Thanks.

Today you post so many wrong info....

AC3150 is not discontinued ,
just out of stock. Stock is coming another week or two (probably with increased price).
AC5400X is gaming router with better spec, its doesnt mean AC5400 is bad.

Also C7 v.5 on 500Mbps plan will do job.

or wait for upcoming AC2700.

Edit:
If he need to top up RM700...better choice is Asus Blue Cave.

Test with LAN cable Cat5e and above.
Yup, wifi can get only 200-300 on 5GHz.

Restart router and be sure you have latest TIME firmware (1.0.0 Build 20180502 rel.45702) upgraded (do not upgrade firmware thru router !).

Hi,
This is my current setup

TP Link Archer C9
TP Link Powerline AV1300 Wifi Kit (TL-WPA8630P)
Ethernet Cable : CAT 5E on from Modem to Router, Router to PowerLine and Powerline to Desktop PC.

Time Broadband Plan - 500 MB.
Currently I have 4 WiFi, and the current result tested as below:

TP Link Archer C9 - 2G Wifi
Download: 25 MB Upload: 25 MB
TP Link Archer C9 - 5G Wifi
Download: 30 MB Upload: 25 MB
TP Link Archer C9 - Cable (Direct)
Not tested.

PowerLine - 2G Wifi
Download: 85MB Upload: 80MB
PowerLine - 5G Wifi
Download: 188MB Upload: 180MB
PowerLine - Cable
Download: 185MB Upload: 160MB

It seems that the wifi results on Archer C9 are very low comparing to Powerline, although the router is just beside me. I can't make a direct connection to Archer C9 as my router is located on top of my doorstep.

I am aware that WiFi is slower than Cable.

I am wondering what went wrong on my wifi settings on Archer C9?

Not I say that AC3150 is discontinued.
A friend of mine who is a reseller of TP-Link told me that AC2300 replaces AC3150.

Also the AC5400X. AC5400X is using 1GB RAM while AC5400 is using 512MB RAM.

For the AC2700. Got a lot of differences from AC2600?

Archer C9 can consider. OOKAS selling latest version which is V5.1

Thanks

What?!

No such thing as that.
Even Core i5 also can achieve.
This is not about the processor things.
Is it using the latest firmware?
Try to perform direct connection to ONU and test.

Thanks.

If installer own laptop cant reach that speed, something else is wrong.
You should hold installer until he get your speed or arrange next visit.

Hi,
Before you test with the Router output bandwidth, make sure the incoming bandwidth is indeed up to your subscribed 500Mbps.

Remember best effort broadband service is subject to bandwidth fluctuation ...let's assume you managed to get 70-80% of the advertised speed which is 350--400Mbps, hook up your computer (presume it's under optimal requirement) to the LAN 1 port of the ONU, and perform a PPPOE dialup from your computer direct to the ONU (without going thru the router)...

Check that first.

Since you have a Macbook Air, it's very good for testing, far more better than the SI's comp spec.

Broadband users also complain of not enjoying lower prices

Maxis said the upgrade was not automatic for existing customers as they have to first pick one of two plans – 30Mbps at RM89 or 100Mbps at RM129 per month.
They can do so at the Maxis page, bit.ly/2gacJxB, but will be recontracted for 24 months. Also, customers who break the new contract will incur a RM500 penalty.
Maxis said recontracting is necessary as it is providing a new router which is capable of maximising the higher speed for WiFi, and at no cost to the consumer.

If your building premises can support it, it's a good idea. Bear in mind the costs can be extremely high for what you will perceive as "lower" speeds. However uptime and stability are unmatched. One particular firm in my building pays a huge amount every year for their Metro E package.

You can use Asus 1200G+ around 3xx to 4xx online. Wired will reach close to 1Gbps, but wireless will max out at 300Mbps.

Yes, the site I wish to migrate to Time is a factory, which is now using 2 Streamyx line. If you don't mind me asking, what is your bandwidth that you're paying that 6 figure annually? And, how is their technician response during downtime?

My JB site using TM's Metro E, and their technical response has become bad to worst nowadays.

They want me to find 8 others subscribers before they come to install a DP near my site... Because the nearer DP is across the main road, so cannot "fly across" the road.

I'm an end user, not TM agent... And they're like "Do it or Wait for it."

So means needs minimal 8 users to open for new ports? hmm.gif..

Because many occasions users complained they say no ports...

Distribution Ports or something like that.

They need a minimal of 10, if I'm not wrong.

So my 12 month period is up in November. Only then can I get the new router by updating the contract? Anyway time would give free router before then? Was at 300mbps package and now at 1gbps.

*
I am using 100Mbps speed paying around 140 - 160 K annually.

You can request TIME to pull a fiber cable to your factory if you r interested. The costs, your company have to bear ya!

You need to also check with TIME sales agent to also see whether pulling own cable is possible or not because they also have to see any nearby port availability.

Thanks.

Thanks
*
C2300 is not replacing C3150 just that C3150 is out of stock now. C2300 is out of stock too. laugh.gif

C5400X is quad core vs C5400. Limited availability.

Hi,

I am a prospect user for TIME Fiber.
Currently using Cyberjaya broadband.

May i know if TIME will provide you with ONU/BTU + Wireless Router?
my dwelling setup is currently on FTTH and having a Calix BTU act as an wifi router. so CYBBB only provide 1 device. The issue with this setup is that i can't use a custom router to perform DDNS. The Calix have hardcoded it DDNS services to use paid DYNDNS as it Dynamic DNS provider.

so my question is, does TIME restrict that? i hope it's not as i see that TIME use TP-LINK Archer C1200 as it's wireless router. (confirm that the DDNS provider is not locked).

Secondly, does TIME provide you with a Public IP address?

You can play with timing game but my advise is Unifi dont really follow the termination date... best is to have TIME installed & running then only terminate Unifi.

Hi, TIME will provide you with a ONU + Router & definitely you can use your own DDNS, it will be on Public IP.

I logged in the selfcare, there is an option in the "shop" section, that AC1200 is "Free" with condition of 24 months contract rewnewal.

So Time installer will come to install?
How long need to wait?

Old router needs to be returned?

I guess it may need to have long wait then, as so many users are upgraded across.

Hi,
Before you test with the Router output bandwidth, make sure the incoming bandwidth is indeed up to your subscribed 500Mbps.

*
this is what i get direct from onu
