About UniFi: Home "VIP" Office "BIZ"

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU PROCEED
10 Things You Should Know About UniFi

1. This service is a 24- month contract and a termination fee of RM500 is chargeable for termination of service within the contract period.

2. If your premises reside in high rise building served via copper, you must terminate your existing Streamyx service (if any).

3. Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise. You will be responsible for providing TV and 4-socket extension cord to complete the installation. No installation appointment will be made for premises under renovation.

4. All triple play services (internet, voice and TV) must be activated during service installation. Partial service activation is not allowed.

5. UniFi is a wired broadband service. Wireless connectivity is an option and is subject to interference and obstructions factor.

6. UniFi account owner or authorised contact person must be available during the service installation. For high rise premises, owners are required to make arrangement with Building Management Office for installation permission, internal cabling and access to telecommunication room.

7. Installation fee includes external cable entrance up to the internal wiring with maximum of 15 metres for fiber cable, 15 meters for Ethernet/phone cables and 30 metres for casing (raceway). Additional charges will be applied for cable more than 15 metres and 30 metres casing (raceway) and charges will be included in your UniFi bill.

8. For other non-standard installation e.g. wiring above ceiling, underground and conceal wiring, you may appoint your own contractor or deal directly with TM appointed contractor. Payment will be made directly to the contractor.

9. Please provide correct and valid Billing Address / Postal Address. Select either paper bill or e-mail bill (please provide valid and preferred e-mail address). Bill is also accessible at myUniFi (https://occ.unifi.my). TM may impose a minimal monthly charge for paper bill with notification given.

10. All UniFi equipment provided by TM is subject to 12 months warranty period.

IMPORTANT NOTES (MUST READ)

Internal Wiring
Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise to allow fibre cable entrance into the house. Internal concealed wiring will not be carried out by TM. However, customers can arrange their own or choose from TM’s authorised list of contractors at their own expense. TM shall propose the recommended list of contractor for the concealed wiring (wall or ceiling). As this is beyond the job scope of RNO, customer will deal and make payment directly to the contractor. Operationally, reappointment is to be arranged when the conceal wiring is completed. Customer is required to inform TM for installation appointment.
Premise currently under renovation
During installation day, TM will not proceed if the customer premise is under renovation unless insist by customer, TM will charge customer accordingly if request for other appointment time. Customers who are having their home renovated are advised to inform TM prior setting service installation appointment. TM shall not be responsible for any damages resulted from construction and renovation done by customer through third party during or after the installation.
Customer Unreachable and Change of Appointment
Premise inaccessibility or deferment of installation appointment upon the installation team’s arrival at a customer’s premise will be subject to a charge of RM100. Re-appointment will be subject to time slot availability.
High-Rise VDSL & FTTH
For high-rise (condos, apartment, office building) ,TM would require to access the MDF/SDF room to physically activate the port which normally locked by the Building Management/Maintenance. Therefore, customers are required to communicate and make arrangement with your Building Management/Maintenance Office to ensure someone is available to grant the access to TM UniFi Installer to MDF/SDF room during the installation time. Without the access to MDF/SDF room, installation cannot be performed and TM has to revisit which will incur unnecessary cost to customer.
In the case of copper wired building that uses VDSL2 technology, successful delivery of UniFi services is subject to technical testing. TM has the right to cancel the order should the building copper wire is deemed as not passing the technical test or not ready to deliver the service.

Requirements & Installation Guide

From making an appointment to the signing-off of the Service Acceptance Form, here is a complete step-by-step process of how we bring UniFi into your home or office.

Step 1: Appointment

Appointment is made at the point of registration. You may choose your preferred date and time for UniFi installation but please note that installation for FTTx (Fibre to the Home or Office) is expected to take between 4-8 hours, and for VDSL2, 2-3 hours.

24 hours prior to the agreed installation date and time, the TM UniFi Centre will call you for a final confirmation. Our UniFi technician will also call you just before he goes to the agreed address of installation.

Step 2: Site Assessment

Upon arrival at your home or office, our technician will brief you on the step-by-step process of the entire installation. This includes:

(i) Site assessessment (outdoor and indoor)
(ii) Cable entrance (drilling point for FTTx)
(iii) Equipment termination point
(iv) Route of wiring

In the case of FTTx installation, our technician will determine the location of the Fibre Distribution Point (FDP), whether it is located on an overhead pole, or underground. If the underground fibre access is blocked due to any home or office renovation, it may require a longer installation period than for overhead fibre access installation.

For VDSL2, site assessment is much quicker since our technician need only access the building’s MDF room and perform the necessary cabling there.
Note: VDSL2 - your existing Streamyx or Business Broadband access will be disabled during this exercise.

Step 3: Installation

It's time to complete the installation process. As part of this process, some minimal drilling may be required. After laying the cables we will determine which modem is suitable for your home. Indoor installation requires more time as our technician needs to lay the internal fibre optic cable. Cables of sufficient length will be provided. However, in cases where additional cable lengths are required, some minimal charges will be incurred. To prevent unsightly wiring, wires and cables will be housed in proper casings.

However, if you wish it to be a drill-free installation, and if the fibre optic cables are required to be pulled through your home or office ceiling, we have a panel of contractors that you can work with, the costs of which will be borne by you.

VDSL2 does not require drilling since UniFi connection will come from the existing phone jack in your home or office. For this premise type, indoor installation requires minimal setup time.

Step 4: Equipment Setup

After laying all the cables, it’s time to connect the equipment. Our technician will first set up the BTU followed by Premise Gateway, Set-top-Box (for Residential package only) and DECT Phone. Once the equipment is tested and works properly, our technician will then show you that all the services are in working order.

Step 5: Completion

You are required to sign-off a Service Acceptance Form (SAF) as part of the process to complete the installation work. For a complete understanding of what TM UniFi service is, please read the terms and conditions in your service agreement.

I had used 20mb unifi since 2011, would like to downgrade it to 5mb, however i was told that i need to pay another rm200 for the downgrade.. is it true?

Others solution i hv is
-terminate unifi and reapply which i will be tied for another 1 year
-terminata unifi and jump to maxis home fibre

and let say if i downgrade the unifi by paying rm200, am i bound for another 2 year contract with tm?
and what i should i bring when i terminate the unifi? the hypp tv box., anything else?

What's your budget and what's your objective? If low budget but want very good performance, buy a super long LAN cable =). I have not used homeplug, but should work. Wifi repeater easiest in my opinion.

If you still want to use Unifi. Log a complaint to SKMM saying that Unifi is telling you the port is full. Normally they'll have to find a way to make it happen.

Since L7 cannot be flash using custom firmware, the best way is use thord party router that supports unifi such as TPlink and Asus. I also not sure why so many bad reviews for L7 router since it works fine for me and my firmware version is 1.07TM

Just call the support line and ask for upgrade.
To upgrade to 10mb you must be using 5mb now. If you're using 10mb they will allow upgrade to 20mb.

Somehow after I changed the Security type to WEP the problems seems to be solved
but still WEP is susceptible to cracking by BEINI within minutes
Any solution regarding this issue ?

No, they are separate. From the photo, top to bottom, is the Hypptv set top box, the wifi router, and the modem.

Mine is also like that. The dimension of all three equipment is the same, so very nice to stack them up on top of each other like what shown in the photo above.

Signal is stronger and more reliable than my TP-Link MR3420 V2 with 8db antenna, but it's firmware got DNS issue, where it can't resolve DNS requests after certain period.

same here. i got a call to upgrade from 5mbps to 10mbps for RM179. for me it was worth it but for my parents, it's rather useless since they're very low usage. should I? was thinking of getting a unifi-capable router at the same time. every time feel like throwing mine from the roof.

contract reset 2 years then reset loh. maybe will stick to unifi forever, unless got better alternative.

Hey, anybody experience being redirected to MIDAS advertising page when using Firefox 29's address bar to google things?

I just reformatted my pc and when I install Firefox 29 I noticed this. Tried reinstall FF several times, still the same. No such problem with Chrome.

I google this MIDAS and found this - http://midas.nervesis.com/#services

Apparently this is a collaboration with TM. So.. our f***er ISP is redirecting our google searches to advertising now?

I tried Firefox 28 and didn't have this problem. So.. is it FF 29's fault or TM's fault?

Using OpenWRT on my DIR825. I tried to setup the IPTV and bridge it with wireless interface. I set the vlan to 600 and tagged on WAN port. I bridge this vlan with the wireless interface. On the STB i set to connect via wifi. On the
"Network Diagnostic Tool" page, i can see all the ip address (not my local 192 IP but starting from 10.29.x.x), and other info like gateway address n active dns ip. Access mode set to dhcp.

The test is all pass. When i go into hypptv i manage to see the Guide and the tv channel name n what is playing. But I cannot see the content itself and there is a picture of a satelite dish with a small X on it.

Any idea what setting I got wrong?

The modem is at hall (first floor) and my room at 3rd floor. The question is, when i connect my external hardisk or usb cable to charge my hp, why cant the port works? means there is no respons when i connect my ext hdd and us cable to charge my hp. icon_question.gif

Notice that too and I thought I caught a spyware or something lol

Just use google dns and it will go away. Apparently it's TM Dns

Oh yeah, forgot to set up google dns after reformatting. Thanks. smile.gif

but do i have to reset my router to ensure that i get the best out of my new speed?

and is there any way to test/check if im really having better speed?

May I know whether we should give reason for not taking the normal rm199 (vip 10) package? Or can tell them straightforward to apply rm179 package...

Just turn off & on back your router. Normally within 24 hours.

To check your speed, run a SpeedTest

the RM 179 package was offered to me via TM telemarketing team. so there was no question on why i didnt take the 199 plan. the 179 plan is not offered via normal sellers/agents/tm points i think. only some ppl will get the offer.

i think if u call them, cant get the offer. u will get the offer only when they call u. but no harm in trying. good luck smile.gif

anyway, speedtest after upgrade. turning the router on and off does work!

Actually I think TM is desperate for sales. This offer have been available a few times at least for a year or so. I saw the ad before.

They call me up last year for upgrade to VIP10 offer, I say no at that time. A few days ago, they call again, I agree this time. After resetting router, speed test confirm VIP10 ! rclxm9.gif

Actually last month when unifi staff called me to switch to unifi (had been using streamyx for about 10 years), I said I wanted the rm179 package. That guy said this promotion is available for existing unifi users only and advised me to apply for unifi vip 5 first. He said he'd put my name in the list and promised me that I'd receive call to upgrade to vip 10 for rm179 after few weeks. Am I being cheated?

im not sure. maybe u can try calling TM and ask. maybe u need to stay on vip5 for a few months or even 2 yrs before they offer u the 179 plan. my theory is they offer the 179 to customers who have used vip5 for a long time. they need ppl to upgrade to 179 so TM can get more "average revenue per user". anyway just my theory

Need to wait for few weeks?
I applied for VIP 10 RM 199, just wait 2 days then they come and install for me in the morning.
On the same day, I called to TM and ask for promotion to upgrade to 20Mbps for RM 229. After few minutes, upgraded already. smile.gif

Can ask Mika. He was my agent when I apply for 10Mbps package.

Called them this afternoon. They confirmed this offer does exist and I can get it but asked me to call 1800888763. Called the number, but was told they only handle biz package. I called back 1300881222 but this time another operator told me only those who receive call is eligible. Why the conflicting statements? mad.gif

originally they only wanted to offer 229. i insisted that they had a 30 RM off deal. so the girl told me must check and she will get back to me. next day call and say 219 can be given if agree on the spot to upgrade. so i agreed - 219 without hypptv (just the free channels). pretty good deal to me cause i signed up for 10 MB initially and paid 199 for it.

1300881221. You've to keep calling. I think only some senior agents know the procedure becoz once I overheard the agent (maybe new guy) asking another agent (maybe another new guy too). If they're not sure, they don't approve. Maybe that's what happened to me before.

Very happy with it until I received a call from Astro just a couple of minutes ago. Sigh.

Hi I would like to check with those who has experience postponing/deferring the 2-year contact. Here's my situation.

I subscribed to VIP20, 2/3 months ago. Currently I'm working offshore, signed up for a two-month job somewhere in Sarawak. And I'm looking at another 2 months extension, which means 4 months away from home. Now I would like to defer the contract/stop the service and billing for at most 4 months.

IMHO I see no reason this cannot be done. I have done this before with Maxis two years ago when I stayed Australia for a 3-month course. They have no problem stopping the billing and I resumed my contract after I'm back.

Is this possible?

should be possible, but depends on TM's voluntary suspension policies.

most telcos will suspend billing if they receive voluntary suspension request.

just give TM a call as ask for voluntary suspension (with reason of your 4-months offshore work). Review the T&Cs, billing, charges, etc etc.

Hi all
Planning to subscribe VIP5 soon. Whats the best way to go about it? Walk in, agent or sign up online? Is it true that you pay less if it is done online? (Cut out the middleman). Also is the relocation fee still waived? Any hidden costs I should know about?
Thanks in advance smile.gif

TM called my wife yesterday to promote upgrade from 5m to 10m at RM179.00. But I remember I read that if TM called, we should be offered RM169 and not RM179 right? RM179 is only when we call TM to ask for upgrade right? Since she already agreed at RM179.00, can we call to ask them give us back RM169?

RM169 offer is excusively for early Unifi customers.

RM179 offer is for other customers who's nearing completion of the contract.

Sad because I installed Unifi less than a month ago.
So happy with it. Can do my work smoothly as I use the internet a lot to upload photos and videos and watch YouTube and sometimes download movies.
When downloading movies, I can easily get 1mb. Sometimes up to 1.2mb.

Suddenly Astro offered me RM148 for 10mbps Maxis + a reduction for my Astro bill.

I am currently paying RM395/month;
RM200 for 10mbps Unifi and
RM195 for Astro.

The sales person said I will only pay RM150 for Astro and RM150 for Internet.
So that's RM95 savings for me for the exact same speed.
And he said the Astro will be on Fiber as well so I won't have any problems when it rains.

Haih. I don't know whether I should jump to Astro/Maxis and pay the RM500 penalty to TM.

It will be worth it after 5 months when I recoup my losses but I am not sure if Maxis internet is reliable.
Previously I cancelled the RM118/month Maxis deal at the last minute before installation because of many horror stories here in LYN.

My neighbor opposite my house is using Maxis too and they never had any problems for the past 2-3 years.
Not even once they had to call the CS.
Father works from home using internet all the time and son is a gamer. Always in the house.

There is another alternative. If you can find another person to take over the account. You only need to pay for the transfer of the line to another persons name. Then u can register another line with Maxis.

I notice that the VDSL ZTE modem has another separate login into it via XML API probably to access it. I cant disable that account via the standard "admin" account via the GUI.

Any idea guys?

if you are not a gamer, Maxis would be fine. my family is using maxis, and i am using unifi. the cost saving would be great. it is just that the router is bad. and for IPTV users, you cant change to a different router as it won't work. YouTube streams can be choppy at times, but generally, maxis has been okay la for me.

it is all about cost and trade offs really. that extra savings can be put into retirement fund.

I also received the same offer. Rm179 for 10Mbps plan. Rm20 off. But I still feel it is a not bad deal. Becos already paid rm149 per mth, add another rm30 the speed is double. Download time also cut by half. Worth the money actually. In fact, if consider per MBps speed vs money paid. Rm249 for 20Mbps plan is also very worth the money. Just that if one never fully utilize the fast speed, it will be wasted and overkilled.

Actually the lady also offers me another plan which is add rm50 hypptv package and get free upgrade to 10Mbps speed, it is also very worth the money, just that I hardly watch any tv programme so I didn't take it.

yeah, it's a good offer indeed.

same as you, i dont really watch tv, so the hypptv package has no value to me biggrin.gif

and since my unifi usage is low (mostly outside from home), the need to upgrade from VIP5 -> VIP10 is not really important to me. Unless i'm doing SOHO, then it's really saves me RM20/mth.

but if u when to Lowyat also got.. cheap2. around RM15-20.
the jack size is quite common size, so no problem finding 1, even the black VDSL2 huawei modem adaptor also same type.

Noob question, need your opinion

May I know any better/stable on the new BTU (broadband termination unit) compare against the old unit. Currently using unifi (2 1/2 years already)and contract is over.

I 'm tinkering to sign up new account and close the old account. As other internet fibre provider not likely to be in my area in the near future. What's your advice?

Thank you

FYI,it is useless to buy any 2nd hand STB from any ex-UniFi users. owh wai.
upon checking they lock the user id with the MAC address.

you can only use the STB while service id is active.

Unifi has been pretty shitty the last 3-4 days. Massive disconnects, not getting my actual speed, very inconsistent speed in fact.

What is happening?

Worst case is very very long. Suggest if need internet urgent go starbucks or tether from your phone.

Most cases can solve in a few days though (in my experience). Just see your bad luck.

Hello

im unifi user since 2011. and recently i discover problem

- recently when i turn on all unifi equiptment, no network connection on my pc (direct cable) and tab/smattphone (wifi). but stb (hypptv) working fine. need to turn off all equiptment, wait a minute then turn on back. And netwok ok. sometimes i do it 2 3 times

- im lol summoner and every night i play. but recently it keep disconnected from g.a.r.e.n.a server swometimes it hang, make me terminate the application. i go surf on its forum to look for any solution. and i discover that there are connection between g.a.r.e.n.a server and unifi user. but someone posted there says after replacing unifi routet with tplink, problem solved

After review it many times, i suspect the router might have problem, the dir615. no wonder unifi user dont like it. so i plan to change

I have visit klseet website to get some info to replace this filthy dir615. Quite a lot of selection to make. but why all must upgrade to custom unifi firmware AFTER buy it? is there any router that i buy it, plug it then enjoy it? im not techy guy to go flash router memory by myself and load the latest firmware. i dun want to take risk on it

btw, my usage on unifi just moderate. daytime i worked, so all equiptment off. After work at home, turn it on to watch hypptv n internet n of course lol. before go bed, turn off all. only weekend i turn on whole day. And hypptv n rm5 pice-of-metal antenna is my only tv source to watck on my big fat 29inch crt tv. I dun have astro

so, back to question. any router that can replace dir615? my budget below rm200 and the type that i dun need to flash to custom firmware. i prefer plug n play

thanks

call 1-300-88-1221. tell them yr problem.

they'll ask you to switch off everything, they will refresh on their side.

also, i suggest u do not turn off modem n router off all the time - this is not good for speed stability.

just happened to read yr posts... sharing my experience...

I have great experience with ASUS N12 D1. This is a very affordable router, just select TM Unifi profile during setup, and follow the guide.

ASUS N14UHP has better range, but if dir 615 range was good enough, Asus N12 D1 is slightly better than that. So it is an adequate replacement.

I need some help if anyone can help me.

I'm trying to download a PDF file right now but suddenly it says got 'Network Error'.

Even for small sized video, for example from dailymotion, i keep getting the same thing..

What is this? Anyone can teach me how to fix it?

Any advice is really appreciated.

I'm using Chrome and using a wireless connection to my Unifi modem. - VIP10. I have been using this since a month ago.

It also doesnt work on Firefox too.

Hi,
I want to install unifi in my apartment but suddenly my phone cable inside my apartment was damage. So, the contractor said that I need to do external wiring from the box at ground floor until into my house(at floor 2). He quote me around RM250 for that extra works.

My question, is that normal price? Does that charges will be charge in my bill or need to pay by cash after they do the works?

forgot ady how much but its around rm100 or rm150...depend how long need to pull that cable..
why dont u report it to your resident management...suppose they fix the cable problem..but u know..sometimes management can be suck..like mine..thats why i deal with the tech to pull cable..

Hi,
I want to install unifi in my apartment but suddenly my phone cable inside my apartment was damage. So, the contractor said that I need to do external wiring from the box at ground floor until into my house(at floor 2). He quote me around RM250 for that extra works.

My question, is that normal price? Does that charges will be charge in my bill or need to pay by cash after they do the works?
*
Check with the apartment management if yours has one. The last time a contractor told me that also, saying cable is old and want to charge me. The condo was quite new so I didn't believe him, turns out he disconnected my line and not a cable fault.

Its been so many years

Is unifi ever going to upgrade their speeds ?

20mbps looks so slow nowadays not because of the speed , its because of the website data is increasing

Hello guys, need a help or suggestion here.

currently id moved into my new house and installed my unifi at the hall area. Let say I place them at right side (coz the point already built-in there) of the hall and of course I plan to put my TV there also. But the problem came when we bought a sofa that so huge making it not suitable to place the sofa opposite of the unifi and TV. So we decided to place the sofa at the unifi place, meaning now instead of previously my unifi at right side now i need to move them to the left side. the problem is the cable is not long enough and it will make my wall not nice with the long unifi cable visible.

Any idea how can i settle this problem?

Doesn't matter if you're on 20/10/5/1mb, youtube is throttled to less than 40KB/s. Last night 9.30pm my youtube speed back to normal.

For Ground floor to 2nd floor is charge around rm100-200.

If for phone cable damage from riser to your house, report to apartment/condo management, if you want it fast, pay to tm.

so i think my option only to lengthen the cable from the point at my left wall to my right wall.

or i heard there is a device which can transmit the data through electricity? meaning i plug one end at my left wall and the exit at my right wall and then connect to the modem. so no visible cable at the wall. is such device exist lol

In on VIP20 as well and am throttled horribly on youtube as well. Its insanely irritating. I cant even watch a 480p video properly let a lone 720p (got forbid 1080p). I'm in the PJ region and I noticed someone else saying they dont have a problem...

I've tried restarting router / pc and any number of combination of such device to no avail. Also the real issue is during day I can theoretically get decent performance out of youtube maybe watch 720p moving after buffering for 30 seconds or something like that. But at night, I cant even watch 480p without buffering like crazy. It play for 3 seconds and have to buffer for 10 seconds thereafter. It's ridiculous.

I've tried complaining and logging a call but nothing has come out of it.

Does any know whats up with this?

it happens everyday, youtube is getting throttled about 9-11pm daily...

But for me, I can still watch Twitch streams on "High" or "Source" setting no problemo...

But i sure hope that there are some agents here which can provide some feedback...

Actually if i have no background apps running, i can stream most youtube 1080p just nice on my 5bmps line...

So tbh 10mbps is already more than enough for a 1080p youtube stream, unless the line is being shared between few people then yes 20mbps will be decent for few people to stream 1080p simultaneously.

I just came out from tmpoint tmn desa.

I'm using unifi biz 5 ($199) at my RESIDENTIAL address in Bukit jalil. Contact over. Now I want to change to unifi vip 10 ($199) or biz 5 + office 365 ($199).

Tmpoint said I need to terminate my biz 5 and apply for vip10 or another new application for the biz 5+ O365. Got to wait for a port to become available.

Tmpoint says my area no more ports. Waiting list. Any suggestion what should I do now?

powerplug / homeplug transmit data from LAN cable into your electrical cable and comes out from the other end via the same way.

homeplug, but if your home uses a three phase power supply, the homeplug only works in the electric sockets that are in the same phase...

Need opinion. My unifi contract already over. Is it ok for me to terminate contract and sign new? Is installation still free? Because plan to move the setup to 1st floor (now currently the router/modem at ground floor guest room).

2nd question, any good router to replace the dir-615? Because connection not very stable on my macbook air. Read that asus rt-56 is good but also noticed some review mention problem with the 5ghz freq.

Appreciate sifu comments!

Appreciate sifu comments!

installation is still free unless ur using more to 15m fiber cable..

i believe the port is not shared and i'm the only user for my line.

i know how to test speed ~ no need remind me something like torrent speed or other streaming that occupied the bandwidth ~

dude ~ bandwidth and download speed are 2 different things ~

bandwidth is measure in bits and download speed is in bytes ~

10mbps bandwidth should get around 1000 kB/s (1MB/s) download speed ~

u will notice in torrent agent showing upper case "B" instead of lowercase "b"

What do you mean by modem + router?

You wont be able to change the Fiber Termination Unit,
you can only change the provided router which has crappy wifi...

TIME has their own fibre and network. If your location is covered, then why not. You can save a lot if are an Astro subscriber as well. Astro IPTV + Time fibre connection is cheaper than subscribing those two services separately.

You can check the TIME thread.

Normally the connection via LAN cable is quite stable, normally the problesm with TM routers are wi-fi stability issues,
But if you can confirm that the lag comes with the router, then changing it will solve the problem, but if the problems comes from TM side, then changing the router wont do much good....

If LAN games that doesn't require internet connection, then yes router will definitely improve performance..

Google DNS might make things worse
youtube has servers all around the world
you might get redirected to a server in USA

I have no issues with youtube so unifi isn't trottling youtube
maybe also check your IP address range. Some IP routing is very bad.
60.*, 175.* is okay..
i know tm has a 1.* ip range which is kinda suck.

I'm thinking of upgrading to Unifi, TM called me and asked me if I wanted to upgarde to Unifi. I said yes but now I'm searching online and apparently if you register online the first month's subscription is free? So there is no advantage of signing up through the phone right?

And is the slow YouTube problem temporary or has it always been like that?

Hi guys, I have a question regarding about Unifi registration. The situation is like this:

Ten years ago my house actually have TM phone line but no Streamyx internet and the line has been stolen by others and call to other country which resulted in high charges about RM800++ and because of that my parents refuse to pay the bill and let TM cut off the line. And now I think it's been 10 years later, I would like to register Unifi, will I have to pay off that RM800 bill if it register it under my name? Previous TM line is registered under my parents name. Thanks

Without VPN = Tend to disconnect during heavy usage.
With VPN = No more disconnection. Unifi is getting ridiculous nowadays.

Unifi doesn't use old phone line at all.. Even the free phone that comes with unifi, that one is a VOIP phone and not connected to old phone line at all. So, I believe, you can apply without the need to settle the old phone bill first.

It is just a codeless phone.

There is no such thing of ABC phone is a VoIP phone or not.
Any phone works as same. Just how the protocol being used to transfer the voice which is not related to the phone in your hand.

In VoIP, the voice from the phone being carried by the residential gateway (modem) and being delivered via your internet (IP), instead on conventional analog signal.

No need set anything, just install the VPN software or OpenVPN Software provided.
After that you can choose which country you wanted to connect to.
Example: If you want to see US TV Show, just connect to any US Server.

Hello guys I have a problem with OpenWRT router working with unifi.

I recently bought a TP-Link TL-WR941ND to change the broken DIR-615, and I followed the guide to setup here: http://klseet.com/index.php/tl-wr941nd-ver...-unifi-on-trunk

When I installed luci and successfully config unifi, I got SSL error when surfing https websites, I cant even go to Facebook and many other pages.

I google and found out should use "opkg install luci-ssl" instead of "opkg install luci", therefore I reset everything by PuTTY it and erase rootfs_data, but I got an error say its not enough memory to flash when installing the luci-ssl package.

Is there any advice from sifu here?? Thanks ya

luci-ssl should only be for accessing the HTTPS LUCI web interface on the router. It's got nothing to do with surfing HTTPS enabled webpages.

not included, you will have to pay for that. they will roughly charge you about RM 100? If there is drilling needed

does that mean what they mention here on this page is wrong? Unifi Page

QUOTE
Standard Installation

For all standard installations, a fee of RM200 will be imposed.
All wiring work carried out will be run along the surface of walls and enclosed in a casing called a ‘raceway’.
If additional cabling length is required beyond what is provided in the standard package, extra charges will be imposed. These extra charges will be billed in your next bill. No cash payment is to be made.
*Update: Called 1300 Unifi number, the raceway(casing ) is included in the standard installation, free for 30 meters.

Don't know who is right now. If they don't I'll just buy the raceway myself and DIY.

just called TM support, they couldnt find any issue from their side. they even refresh and reset my connection (i have no idea what that mean.)

anyway, he advise me to download PingPlotter, screenshot them and submit a report to their email support. sigh

EDIT : update, seems like im not getting a timeout anymore. perhaps you can drop a call and tell them to refresh/reset your connection. thumbup.gif

For my case, they calculate total length for the fibre cable outside and inside. For me, total fibre length is 40M, no extra charge.

That's what I'm afraid, they can simply put your internal fibre is longer than 15M and charge you in the next bill.

*Update: TM called me, they said there is no such direction to install Unifi without FTB. If the installer is reluctant to install the box, call TM on the spot. They will speak to the installer.

update 2: Right before the installer came, I made another call to unifi to make sure about the FTB thing. Now, CS says it's a new directive that unifi can be installed without the FTB. CS said internal fibre count from FWS onwards, installer says it doesn't matter anymore without FTB rclxub.gif really my kepala pusing already listening to them. Fortunately, my installation went smoothly without hiccups.

Is Unifi having issues or doing any major maintenance? I'm constantly having dc issues every 30mins since Friday night till now. Using ethernet cable to directly connect from pc to router. Can't even stay long in Wildstar or SWTOR it's annoying.

Guys, I am on VIP 5, and I do watch quite a lot of live stream and those streams are not very smooth. Does it makes a different if I replace the original modem with TP-LINK TL-WR841ND. Btw, is the QoS function in the original modem useful? Thanks for your time.

It wont help much because most of our servers are located out of Malaysia...Streaming always depends on the servers..

For your info,

I also didn't receive any call for confirmation. Mine was also scheduled for installation today morning. I called Unifi line at 8:15am to enquire which they replied installer confirmed coming. Later received a Unifi sms at 9:35am stating my installer name. Around 10am, installer called and informed me that arriving in 20mins.

Arrived ahead of time and told me they can pull cables over ceiling for a fee. I declined and told them to drill at the locations I selected. However, They decided to pull the cables over my ceiling as it is easier and faster (according to installer) for free. Pull the black cable beside my TV and asked whether I want casing for a fee, which I declined.

HyppTV on, Internet on, Phone tested, everything done within 1 hour 20mins. Also noted that there is no DB box like my neighbour; only a loop of wires hanging outside at the cable entry point of my house....

I didnt receive any call until this morning 10mins before the contractor came for installation.
But the contractor didnt quote me any pricing, haha they just proceed with the normal installation. The drilling was quite bad tho. But not that bad..

Yea mine is without the DB box too. I guess they dont use that anymore.
Btw, whats your router model? I cant find my router model (WBR-2300) when I tried to google for configuration tuts. hmm.gif

Today someone who claimed to be from TM came to my house to do "installation Auditing" while I was not around.

The guy states that my wiring entry point at the side of my house is not according to procedure. Also said that the cable running above ceiling need to be concealed in pipe to prevent rat bites.

Told my wife he will be contacting my installer and might need to redo the wiring. However, I called Unifi helpline and they told me TM personnel need to file an order on any activated account 24 hours before they can make any visit.

Have anyone experienced this before?

my unifi was struck with lightning earlier.. but the lightning doesn't travel through power line (plug & sockets).. all 3 devices (phone, wifi & modem) can be powered on, but none of them is working. TM technician came and checked each on of them and I had to replace all three.

What I want to say is, the thing can still be broken, even if the power can still be switched on.

I would like to install Unifi at my parents home, but the problem is TM says 'no port is available' (or something like that). Anyone can help?

Unifi has been in the housing area since 2012, there are 8 house in this area and seems like all available 'port' has been used. We tried applying for Unifi since last year but till now still no update. Anyone can help suggesting ways we can ask TM to provide more 'port' or the facilities so that we can subscribe to Unifi? Due to the inavailability we need to endure the problematic streamyx. Currently subscribing 4MB streamyx but the line quality always bad (frequent disconnect, blinking adsl light, cant even safely do internet banking). Thanks.

So the lightning travel through the fibre cable? I know we could disconnect the fibre at the FWS but it's tedious and inconvenient to do so... plus the plug at the FWS feels fragile. any better way to avoid it?

no. current cannot travel thru fiber optics.
maybe thru copper telephone line if he's using VDSL.. or maybe from other device connected (LAN cable).

but thru power line also possible. todays power adaptor are not using transformers anymore, but using 'switch mode power supply'. the main supply still have 'connection' in the adaptor to the secondary output.
maybe the internal chip got small static current and damaged the internal chips/IC.

no problem.
if on landed properties, from TM pole or box should be direct fiber till modem.
on high-rise/apartment, usually using copper telephone line from MDF room (ground floor telecommunication service room). so still got chances to get lighting strike from telephone line.

it doesnt make sense for the lightning to travel via fibre optic cable. Actually, my unifi is also connected to my house alarm. Since the alarm got external siren outside the house, I believe the lightning struck the siren, and the power surge traveled via ethernet and phone cable, damaging all the interconnected devices (voip phone, alarm, modem, wifi). All of them can be powered on but they won't work. Other electrical items that shared the same plug with my unifi are still working fine.

Hi, anyone encounter slow Facebook app on Unifi? Images and video are extremely slow on my phone. Instagram is slow also.

But when I browse other site are ok. Just happen to phone app, using computer is fast and smooth.

No silly answer. I already check wifi connection, distance, channel, DNS, my phone and other. Facebook app with Streamyx and Digi line are smooth.

Just weird...

I got a call from unifi to upgrade my 5mb to 10mb @ rm179. This was my 3rd or 4th time receiving such calls but I refused to upgrade.

So they offered me rm139 p.m. instead of rm149 for the 5mb package. However have to sign a 24 mth contract.

1. No new equipment, & if the current equipment KO, then it's my responsibilty, not theirs!

2. Free transfer should I move to another location - can save rm300.

3. RM139 will remain after the contract lapses.

Anyone got this offer? smile.gif

I'm not sure my problem is similar to yours. Last night around 11:30pm my router and my Internet started to act up and booted me out.

And getting authentication error even though I know that I could manage to access my router page.

Restart doesn't solve it. When I do get onto the Internet, it's super slow and couldn't load anything. Sigh!

According to unifi = https://www.tm.com.my/Home/broadband/unifi/...ation-Unit.aspx , only the BTU has a lifetime warranty - BTU is also known as modem ( https://www.google.com.my/search?q=Set+%E2%...spx%3B300%3B300 ) which is freely used by unifi's CS - that's where the confusion started... nod.gif

I was actually talking about this ( https://www.google.com.my/search?q=Resident...spx%3B300%3B300 ) which is officially called Residential Gateway! rclxub.gif

oh well... biggrin.gif

this was the same question that i asked the cs who called me. the answer? the offer is for SELECTED customers only! cry.gif

how to define "SELECTED"? you tell me... rclxub.gif

the CS also mentioned that the 169 is no more - it's 179 now, & soon will be 189! I don't believe this at all! rolleyes.gif

the RM169 promo was for earlier customer that subscribe unifi. i believe it was 1-2 years back. coz i got the offer when my 24months contract finished.
they will call for this offer.
then there was Rm179 offer. some subscriber who call them will get this offer.

i think the RM169 offer no more already.

all offer comes with extended contract for another 24months.
free relocation and transfer account name to close relatives (family members).
warranty only for modem/BTU.

i just replaced my broken modem, and yes, it's a lifetime warranty.. but the thing about this warranty is, the technician will come to your home with a modem modem to replace the old one and they gonna charge RM50.

So, even though it's a lifetime warranty and you'll get FREE replacement, you still need to pay at least RM50 for the technician to come your house. Basically, there's still no such thing as free biggrin.gif .

Same with djhenry91, they came to replace it without any charge. Also by right if I'm not mistaken any charges are to be reflected to your bill and not paid to the technician.

Wait are you talking about the BTU or the router?

As far as I know BTU is lifetime warranty because I don't think can easily purchase from 3rd party.

As for the router, i changed to tplink and still working ever since from the start.

Maybe the technician went on a 'troubleshooting' visit instead of a modem replacement visit. just a hunch.

Hi, I currently experiencing unstable internet connection from VIP 5 Unifi. As I check the router(smaller box), the internet light sometimes flashing OR turn on and off consistently. Especially during night and weekend @@

TM technician came many times and the last visit they asked me to relocate the fibre wiring from outdoor to indoor...

(Why outdoor at the first place is because installation team misinformed me that it require charges if want them to install the wiring indoor since it need to come from the back of the house to the living room at the front)

... which of course charges incurred for about rm350 considering the length of the fibre wire. @@

My Hypp TV and phone line is functioning well, but not my internet connection. So before I make decision to pay for the relocation, can anyone here tell me what is preferable solution? Should I ask them to replace the modem router? If so, is it FOC?

Thanks in advance for any helpful answer. notworthy.gif

For my case, yes, modem has lifetime warranty, but when the technician come to replace my modem for free, TM will charge me RM50 for the service, and the money is billed into my account, not paid to technician.

Would like to check if anyone using Asiabox.
Previously I use YTL YES, and watching online TV channels has no problem.

But on Unifi, the asiabox cannot connect to all the TV channels and movie servers.
Anyone can help?

Is there any way to get this promo without waiting for them to call and offer? Also, how much the new monthly fee for promo vip10?

I just recently realized that all my download connection had been throttled down to 500kbps for quite a while now. And I mean everything. Direct download, p2p, steam,  etc2. Anybody have any idea what the problem is?

Area : Ampang
Default router and modem. Replacement router got hit by lightning.

Agree. These few days I keep on checking my connection , do few test and I noticed my download all get capped. Damn! All the time since beginning my download were 650kbps and now become 150kbps.

Using VIP5 from SENTUL!

So TM screw me? I'm going to terminate my contract. Hehe!

if you carefully read previous2 post, you'll noticed quite a number of users here(including me) didnt even wait for their call
just give them a call and ask them about the promo unifi without hypptv

i bought a netgear R7000 router while in US (was on offer @ USD 140). Didn't thought of checking whether the stock firmware can be used with Unifi. Any idea if it can be used stock or need to flash to dd-wrt or tomato firmware?

If using tomato, how to configure it to connect to unifi? any guides on the vlan tagging?

Hi, anyone encounter slow Facebook app on Unifi? Images and video are extremely slow on my phone. Instagram is slow also.

But when I browse other site are ok. Just happen to phone app, using computer is fast and smooth.

No silly answer. I already check wifi connection, distance, channel, DNS, my phone and other. Facebook app with Streamyx and Digi line are smooth.

Just weird...

Need help.

Previously received a call from TM saying that my account have outstanding balance that I need to clear otherwise they will cut my internet. I don't believe him so I went to the nearby TM point to have them to take a look at my account. But for some reason there are outstanding balance for about 2 months worth.

Fine, I paid them. A few days later I received a call from TM also saying the same thing and if I don't pay, they will cut my internet. I told them i've paid and they say their system still show the 2 months worth of outstanding balance.

What will you do? I never miss paying UNIFI bills so far.

It's either their system is not updated or this is an attempted scam(?) I have a friend who experienced something similar but with DiGi postpaid service. She actually gave the higher ups of DiGi service a call and filed a complain. Do you have any proof, receipt or anything? Just in case. ohmy.gif
