Individual preference I think. Despite the fact that it's yummy, you also need to consider the below:
1. It's bulky
2. It takes time to eat
3. It would probably melt and make quite a mess

2014 managed to finish 04:30:00. This year teruk. 4:57:00.
Sifu here, I have blister issue start at 20 KM. That time my time is around 1:57:00. I try to maintain my pace 6 min/km ~ 5:55 min/km.
Then blister hits me.
Running in pain. Can't keep up with target pace.

Black toes i haven't got it yet (touchwood), but based on user experience, this newton 5 lungs the upper is bit soft to hold on the toes, causing our toes bang into the toes guard causing black toes

Come to think about it, I think so, too. I never have a problem with toes before, until now. Even Merrell also no such problem. Damn, I still prefer the older versions. Else, have to check out on the heel locking thing...

What should i do to reduce the pain on my tapak kaki while running long distance. Its never happen during my normal run since i only run around 7 km max.
Yesterday manage to finish my first hm and first run event despite lack of training and suffering from shin splint. Very slow though, 3h 40 minutes. After around 14km my sole on both side starts to hurts alot and simply walking make me want to cry. Slowly walking after 17km marks.
will the pain reduce itself with more training?
Or Should i change the way i land my feet from mid strike to heel strike? Or change to new shoe ? ( now using asic nimbus).

Thanks.

Sigh...
Suspect the nutrition part went wrong and I slowdown at KM 21 plus where 4:30 pacers overtook me...

Can't seem push harder when going up hill at Duke highway!

My timing for HM is the worst yesterday. Thanks to all those open houses.

Any of you guys do LSD around KL area? I know that official LYNR LSD is somewhere in Puchong. In a very bad need of motivation.

this is my 1st HM event ever biggrin.gif since I started running in June 2015.
(all previous events are 10k 0r trail runs which are more or less)

both gun time and net time : sub 2:30 without killing myself blush.gif

(yes the q to the starting line was so long dry.gif hence a 4minutes diff between my gun time and net time )

cheers

Any of you guys do LSD around KL area? I know that official LYNR LSD is somewhere in Puchong. In a very bad need of motivation.

Training ground around Kl weekdays, normally tuesday..

Hartamas/ desa city park... Aiya just go to IG. They will announce when and all you have to do is to go. New runners or seasoned runners also can go.

Awek lenglui handsome hitam manis, all sort of people pun ada. Ironman trialetes sub-12345678 all pun ada.

Since when u so malu malu kucing, just ask the amoi,"can i join training", the groups in IG very welcoming anyone to the session...

Congratz for your FM! rclxms.gif flex.gif
My blister happens at the fourth toe (major pain) left foot. I didn't apply any masking tape.
DryMax sock a bit expensive based on Mr. Choi website. Already buy one Injinji sock from him. You may contact him for the best deal.

Mostly mileage will help on the cramp as muscle will sufficient mileage can withstand or delay the cramp to hunt you

There is this pain near the start of the big toe on my right foot every time I run 10km or more. Shoe problem?

Also there's other factors may cause the cramp as well

lack of rest, improper diet , loss of electrolyte in the body etc ..

Hmm... Will go back home and check tonight. My Kinvara 6 got quite a roomy toe box though. Hopefully is nothing serious so I can start running back next week. innocent.gif

Edit:
Shoe have enough room. I think I said it wrongly. It is actually here that pains.

Btw Im 183cm, 81kg with a chubby belly *fatty boom boom*

Thanks expert !

Sounds likt IT band syndrome. I used to get it from long downhill runs. Managed to treat it by doing various leg stretches with an elastic band. Have not suffered from it once I started doing more strength training. Good luck!

I attended the first edition of Kuching Marathon. Did the HM. Consider good for a first event.
Went to 2nd edition. Took the FM. Everything was good except the traffic control.
Last week. 3rd time. Disaster. Finish around 6hrs. WS so so only. Most WS run out paper cup. Thumbs up to this one club's WS where they served air kelapa and cakes. Then KM36 support station.

My friend took 6.5hrs. She said no water for 6 continuous WS (that's approx 12km!). As usual they didnt control the traffic even within the cutoff period.

Will return to cat city next year because I like to run in the city, not the organizer.

I attended the first edition of Kuching Marathon. Did the HM. Consider good for a first event.
Went to 2nd edition. Took the FM. Everything was good except the traffic control.

Guys..

Anyone where can i get saucony? Mitsui? Any runner here selling it?

Im 174cm with 94kg, heavy guy haha unsure.gif
Been running 10k since last year, this year PBIM gonna be my Virgin HM haha so i've been looking to replace my 2yrs shoe, with brooks gts or saucony kinvara/triumph iso.

Read some review said gts and iso triumph is suitable for heavy running due to padding n cushioning. Why do you guys think? Any suggestions are welcome tongue.gif

Thanks!

I'm 176 and my weight fluctuates betweek 90-95. I'm using Brooks GTS 13 and Ravenna previously because I'm flat footed, hence need the stability. But have bought an Asics during sale and will give it a try soon.

I am staying in Taman Puncak Jalil. Normally I do my solo LSD on Saturday morning, starting right after Subuh prayers (~ 0615 am). Distance: 20 - 25 km with pace of 06:15 to 06:30 min/km.

I'm still new to running, my current comfort pace is around 07:15 to 07:30 only.
btw, thanks for your reply, will there be any wild animal around there? Because I kena chased by dog before when I'm doing my LSD training. haha
What time they normally start ?? I can just go there and join them ?
*
Some of them start at 5:30am due to doing a long distance , some start at 6am .. don't be shy to join, they are ok, as long you are able to keep up ..

go to fb look for LYNR group and click join to see their LSD schedule ..

So far, touch wood, I have never encountered any unpleasant episode. But I did see a pack of wild dogs at Taman Damai Utama.

My legs muscles rejected calf guard...

It's too compressed till it's hurt when running...

Compression shock still acceptable.

online tend to sell higher price than the shop plus you need to try on the shoe before purchase
advise to go RSH store or studio R they will better price shoes to choose from

Sifus. I have some question.

I stuck at pace 8'30. Always run with dragging legs. (Malas pace)

Whenever I try to go fast, I will develop a habit of, ...run and suddenly stop.

I would like to improve my timing for 10k. How to consistently run fast? AND STAY FOCUS?

Can share with me what kind of training?

Not a sifu.

You can try different training method on weekly basis.
Such as track day/ road day/ yassoo/ etc.

Some basic tips that won't go wrong;:

1. Improve you body strength ie do plank... Start with few second and as it progress hold till 60 seconds for few sets

2. Speed run, interval , sprint
My LSD on weekend become easier when I did speed run on weekday

That's all for now, else later hard to digest

not a sifu but just sharing some points.
1. you have to find your comfortable pace, if your comfortable pace now is 8'30, try pace with 7'45, 7'15, 6'45 and so on.
2. stay with the pace, dont run fast and stop like what you did, be patient.

for me running long distance running with consistent speed as you have energy to run for longer distance.

Can u elaborate on your speed run, interval, sprint for noob like me?

For my those term look like speed workout 10x400meters hahaha.

I have no strategy at all. I just run run stop run run stop...

If speed run, shorter run I can run faster la.. 3km pace 7". But I cannot sustain to 10km. Then 7"~7"45 need to run how long?

as you said you can run 3km with pace 7 right?
then you try 4km, 5km, 6km... and so-on with pace 7 lo.
fix your pace and train for longer distance.

average slightly-trained runners run a HM around pace 6'30~7, you set that as benchmark lo.

for me, the most important training is have basic for your legs strength and stamina.
you now lack of legs strength and stamina, kinda pointless to train for speed now, unless you only target for 5k.

just my 2cent. tongue.gif

Hi need some opinion here. I've been trying out a few running shoes of various brands.

From my training runs (minimum 4 times a week with a weekend long run) and a few events here and there, the shoes will end up wearing out along the outside edge.

Tried my best to have consistent midfoot landing to have the same result.

What I probably need is a specialty store that can suggest a better shoe for my underpronation?

I believe many here have vast experience. Thanks in advance.

Just some update, I'm back to track. Get to run pace 8'00 and a little bit more need to push myself to run harder so that can get and maintain pace 7++. Thanks to interval and speed training (run like I'm flying lol)

Anyway, I was thinking to get a watch. I thought of setting myself to run a FM next year. So, I have a year to train for it.

What's on my mind:
1) Garmin VivoActive (run and sometimes I swim, ok I rarely swim )
2) you suggest
3) you suggest hahaha

I normally only rely on Nike apps on phone. So...... I only know to press Start and End. Or see the graph of my split and pace....

main reason for a watch: hp battery died when I do LSD or forgot to charge hp.

i use tomtom spark runner 2. basic gps watch with 24/7 activity tracker. battery can get around 11 hours (if turn off activity tracker and use GPS only)

but susah to sync with my phone via bluetooth.

also got SWIM mode. but i never use it so cannot say good or bad.

im also just like u, only look at my pace and distance only.

so my concern when buy watch: battery life & can sync data via bluetooth.

u can read the review here

Can you guys please recommend me a suitable ASICS shoe or any shoe from other brands that is suitable for trail running?

Minlon Serdang there got warehouse sales, want to buy a good pair of running shoes for a change. Before this I just keep on wearing cheap-ass RM50 BATA Power shoes and have to change them every 3 months due to high mileage.

If Bata shoe gives you problem free, RM50 for every 3 months is okay.

Why not u buy 2 Bata shoes, and rotate it take turn wearing. With this, ur shoes can last longer.

For trail running shoe, Brooks is most wear by friends around me.

Hi all,

Any gurus here who did PowerMan Asia this year?

How was the route for running?
How was the route for cycling? Is it too hilly for TT bike?
Can I check in bike on Sunday instead of Saturday? I read that it is compulsory to check in bike on Saturday.

I just registered for Powerman Asia 2017, and it is my first time doing Powerman... biggrin.gif

hope to get some feedback from sifus here...

thank you ya...

Interested with their speedcross 3 Browsing through internet for review and price, but not sure whether the price is correct? Rm2++

Any comment? I'm away, so i can't go to the shop to survey

Tq...
*
Now in the market all is speedcross 4 with better grip and cushioning ... listed price is RM539 , store located at E@Curve Damansara perdana & another one at Pavilion.
RM2XX for speedcross 3 ? unless is used .. new one is got also old stocks , World of Sports used to carry salomon brand but the rights have been taking back and they decide to open their own shop.

As expected, even i bought lunar it cost me around rm4++ during sales, so i expect it to be more but still unsure, it was listed on on9 stores and i don't really trust the price listing.

I read the review, for salomon brand speedcross 3 cs rated second after hoka trail shoes review

Thank you

I did 800m easy jog then i do my dynamic warmup (leg swings, toe walking, heel walking) after that i walk another 200m to my starting point and run.

The pain is gone for now.

Anyone with more then one active pair of running shoes?

I recently got a hoka one one clifton 3 for rm400, from a friend that runs a shoe shop, he said it's good bla bla so i just got it since he's a friend.

I still have my first running shoe, gel nimbus 17 with 350km on it - i don't think it's even nearing the end of his life yet...

Do i
1. retire the asics
2. wear both on alternate days? Will it cause any problem? ie.leg/feet not used to the dynamics/shape of these shoes etc?

background info if it matters: started running around 3 months ago, pace according to strava is 4:50-5:10/km for the last 3 events that i joined, road2marathon/GE 12k/ score 15k.

Event shoes, training shoes. Some runners use other shoes during events, or depends on the terrain. If the route have more elevation, or flat surface.... like I said, according to their preference...

Correct if im wrong that Maeps got a park called "lifestyle Park" that holds various activities which include jogging , so you might try to gave them a visit to see which area you can explore or they have restricted area .. unsure.gif

If that's the case, need to add more bukit training since I usually just run the DPC loop around the waterfront. Gonna venture up to the higher part of DPC then.

Yea, the PNM HM route is a torture fest of going up, then down and a bit flat before going up again. mega_shok.gif laugh.gif

Wah! Elite efficient runner.

Just checked my shoes. Around 450km, my Kinvara left shoe already ini macam. Surprisingly, the right shoe is still quite ok. Probably the cause of my plantar fascia problem. Sifu sifu sekalian, boleh help analyze my shoe wear pattern.

What's the surface you're running on?

My shoes outsole used to wear out very fast too (and one one side in particular) but I think it got better after I changed my running style

Mostly asphalt and concrete? (not sure what kind of surface those walkway are confused.gif ). Same same with me where my left shoe always wears out way faster than the right shoe. Maybe my left leg get tired earlier and my running form out of whack afterwards. hmm.gif laugh.gif Anyway, bought Skechers GoRun4 to replace my Kinvara. Initial impression is that the it weights much lighter and cushioning also lesser and also don't think can last anyway near the Kinvaras.

Congrats. Well done!

I only managed to keep up with 6:00 hr pacer untill 22km then had to slow down as my right heel started acting up and mostly walk more than run after that. Just barely met the cutoff time at 6:45. Did worse than last year's.

Wow, anyone with similar experience? My FM vetaran friend tried to run this year's PBIM with long compression pant & he said it helped a lot.

I'm still not convinced mainly due to the price therefore any feedback is very much appreciated.

QUOTE(cientoo @ Nov 28 2016, 07:40 AM)
Congrats. Well done!

I only managed to keep up with 6:00 hr pacer untill 22km then had to slow down as my right heel started acting up and mostly walk more than run after that. Just barely met the cutoff time at 6:45. Did worse than last year's.
*
The 6hr pacer cut me at around 32km & if my eyes were not playing trick, I think 1 of the 6hr pacer lagged quite a distance behind her partners. Not sure if she's not feeling well.

Wow, anyone with similar experience? My FM vetaran friend tried to run this year's PBIM with long compression pant & he said it helped a lot.

I'm still not convinced mainly due to the price therefore any feedback is very much appreciated.

*
Y U NO Trust ur FM veteran friend but ask us here?

this is very subjective matter... what good for 1, dont mean good for rest.

ie my calf cant take calf guard compression but long compression pant is okay.

if price is issue, train harder, smarter, then no need wear compression.
wearing compression boost ur confidence, image, bla bla bla etc...

sekian my 2cents.

Same issue that I had last time. I tried this way to tie my shoelace & have been problem free since then. The point is to lock the shoe onto your heel.

Was it a group of around 3 boys at the mid span of the bridge on the way back to island? If yes, then we're pretty close. smile.gif

Anyway, nothing you can do about them so just let it go. biggrin.gif

After all, marathon is a race against yourself. The medal & finisher T mean nothing if they don't come with your 42km's worth of sweat. smile.gif

I did my virgin FM in PBIM this year too!
I found out that strength training helps in preventing injuries and core training helps in posture and speed thumbup.gif

I only have a pull up bar, so I do some calisthenics-based exercises, e.g. varieties of pull ups and leg raises. You can try variety of push ups, planks, crunches, and squats. No-equipment strength training is easily available online thumbup.gif

Ex-polar user.
Polar is a good watch, too bad no longer have service centre in Msia or KL.

Not sure now got new authorised seller or service centre setup or not.

Now I'm an active Garmin VivoActive HR+ user... RM1099 during CIMB fair promo... RRP 1299, normal promo RM1199.

PJ can try Taman Lembah Kiara in TTDI. For other location or road route, need to wait all the sifu sifu here to reply.

Earlier last month I got injured while running and I sprained my ankle. Doctor diagnosed torn ankle ligament and need at least 3months to heal.

My ankle is doing ok now but a small part of it still have some swelling and doctor said probably some effusion or granules and to be expected when the ligament is healing.

Now to keep fit, I do around 30 min strength training. I try to do everyday but strength training for me is quite boring cry.gif .

Anyone had similar torn ligament/sprained ankle experience? Any tips to heal faster? haha.

You can try running on the open road. Keep to the five foot way as cars usually will speed along the more busy roads.

When I am in PJ, I usually run a loop starting from Amcorp Mall, all the way down to Filem Negara/Bukit Bintang School to PJ Hilton and then finally up to Amcorp Mall again. Not sure how many km is that but it gives me a pretty good workout due to the uphill segments.

I don't see why the same knot can't be used for other sports apart from running. Again, the point is to lock the shoe onto your heel.

Don't buy new....buy used. The prices of activity tracker by garmin, polar, fitbit here is crazy. Just went to see FR35 and FR735XT yesterday. FR35 they selling >1K....its just basic model. I bought a higher end used FR620 with chest strap on eBay at RM600 only.

Polar is good but yes....they closed the service centre at Jaya One. Now need to send to S'pore for servicing. The good thing about Garmin is their apps is better.

Not for me. Never use any third party app on my FR235

Today I'm just realized on the cadence when I'm running...

It's average 169, with max 199... Most of time when I see my watch it's about 180 cadence...

I never know cadence can be this high....

Stride length is only 0.80m comparing to my other friend 1.17m....

mine is similar as yours at 0.8 and I'm 17X. but of course my pace is snail level biggrin.gif

Tuan Vin Ann,

Yes, to a certain extent. However, for your height that you described, the stride length can definitely be higher by 62%. Mine is 1.3meters and I consider my steps to be small but with high cadence.

My figures, an average runner, is as below,
During race, minimum cadence is around 185 with a high of 207. Average is 194.

During training, it averages 190 cadence.

If you aren't training to have high cadence during training day, but only do it during races then you are inviting injury

Doing Running form drills ATLEAST once a week will assist with cadence.

How do you guys eat/fuel during your run? Or do you even eat during your runs? Or just strictly powergels?

I think around km18 i already feel no energy... this is not a good sign if i were to attempt a 42k

I'm coming from a cycling background where eating on the go is the norm, but when i tried to eat while running its just too cumbersome and impossible.

Did you took any gels / food during the run?

Nope, but i stopped at every water stop for drinks/100+

And thankfully there was one station(last?) that gave one powergel, took it, ate it.

Do you need to eat during a 21k/42k run? Seems hard...
*
Yes. You need to eat. You need to eat because it provides energy. Generally, the body can conduct endurance running without external energy up to 1.5 hr ~2 hr. Above this, the runner will need external energy. This external energy needs to be taken earlier, not when the time is almost at its limit.

experience from my 1st FM last month (6hr 30m). i use 6 energy gel. really help. but if got real food also better. after 4-5 hours i feel hungry. organizer provide bread but taste really bad. only after 30km i take 100+. before that just drink plain water. 100+ make my perut kembung.

last time what i did in HM was take a slice of bread and water 1.5h before race.
after that take one energy gel at 11km mark.

now what i do for HM is take one or two energy gel 15-20mins before race.
another energy gel at 11/15km mark, PB is 1h53m.

FM i still cant find my diet pattern, PB is 4h40m. biggrin.gif

ah good to know mostly are eating energy gels for nutrition, not power bars/ricecakes etc... now i feel so stupid thinking back i was trying to open, chew, and swallow powerbar while running...

Shall try this on my next undecided, unregistered HM

Indeed it's very accurate i personally can start to feel no energy @ 1:30hrs into the run...
*
You can eat gel during ur 21km LSD training.

Different gels have different taste and our stomach react differently... Eat various type of gel to explore ur favourite!

I'm not so sure about FM because I just ran my first in November. hmm.gif

But from my HM experiences, I don't find 100+ useful for energy (too gassy and only helps in replenishing a bit of electrolytes).

I do take gels during HM but depending on the course. If it is a hard course or I'm aiming to go all out for a PB, I will take gels at km10 and km15-16. A good carbo-loading helps very much especially for the first 10k to tackle it hard.

then there is this agreement:

"I have read and agree to abide by the new checkpoint and cut-off time systems as imposed by the Organiser. In the event i am unable to reach any checkpoints within the stipulated time, i will board the shuttle bus and be ferried back to Dataran Merdeka and will not entitled to collect my finisher entitlements."

This year will be my 8th year running competitively. Last year I entered 21 out of 24 races I registered, 1 DNS due to injury & sold 2 bibs. I ran a total of 1293km last year, 300 of those was in races. ..my best result was proly 11th in NBOS run & 46th in Seremban HM (veteran category). Last year was my 1st year competing in veteran category, proly that was why I got so excited & entered lotsa races.... tongue.gif

I dun think this year I will repeat the same thing. With the rising cost of participating in races, I wanna be more selective in my races. Hopefully I can stay healthy throughout the year, I seemed to have found the cause of my calf injury tht's been bogging me down this past few years. & I hope to go a little bit faster this year, last year I forgo most of my short intervals in favor of longer efforts... I think I'ma do more short intervals this year, with the hope of getting my speed back. Old man edi... biggrin.gif

Anyone ever tried ASICS FOOT ID system at 1Utama?

Useful one or not? If after doing analysis, can refuse to purchase?
*
Go try a pair of shoes recommended and go let me consider my options tongue.gif laugh.gif

I'm looking to get a pair of Brooks Cascadia, but which version should I get? Newer revision=better? It's up to BC 12 now, which makes the older models like 10 and 11 slightly cheaper.
*
Go to a shop and try and feel which suit your feet the most as each revision usually will have some changes that might or might not work for you. The Running Lab at Tropicana City Mall have a treadmill you can test run with the shoe.

I read online that wearing trail-running shoes for road running will wear out the outsoles quickly. My question is, how do you define a trail? Trail means dirt road is it? I mainly run at UPM's Bukit Ekspo and the route there actually has paved surface.

Here's how it looks like:

Bukit Ekspo route pic

So does that count as trail or road? Should I get trail running shoes or road running shoes?

Thanks for your input guys.

Now I have a new dilemma, if my actual shoe size is somewhere between 8 and 8.5, which size should I get?

I've tried putting on both and the comfort level more or less the same since shoelaces can be loosened or tightened accordingly.

Bring the sock together (which you wear for your running session) to test each size, get the right one (best timing to buy new shoe is afternoon/evening).

Even same model but different generations may have different cutting.

IMHO, if you want to try Asics lighter version shoe, can look at Tartherzeal series, with come with WIDE cutting model also (despite regular and fit cutting).

Agree with u, Tartherzeal is very light.......7mm for me is acceptable. I have a pair of Tarther Japan, which came with 10mm heel drop, really feel not so comfortable as compared to Tartherzeal. doh.gif

yaya, once used to lower heel drop shoe, will feel "cushion" type shoe not so responsive especially for interval/tempo run (my personal experience).

I think I got confused now

MV outlet is Studio R as shown in receipt and the signage show Stadium...

Anyway, I got my 3rd shoe, with 50% discount. Should be enough to last 6 months. By then only find again.

The shoe I really wanted to get is NB minimalist with vibram sole... Too bad no more and if have no discount.
Somehow im not willing to pay RM300plus for NB shoe.

hi guys. recently just started jogging in awhile and i feel that i should invest in some proper entry level running shoes.

i have neutral arches so i can pretty much fit into most shoes. went to sportsdirect and shortlisted these... (around my bajet lah.)

Brooks aduro 3
Asics gel impression 8
Asics gel patriot 8
Asics gel contend 3
Adidas energy cloud
Adidas duramo 55

this is my very first pair of "proper" shoes.. previously just wear bata power shoes but i dont think its good for my legs in the long run...

so which one should i buy? hmm.gif
