My 15" year 2008 magbook pro (not unibody) started to have problem... sigh.
The keyboard and trackpad will hang after 2 hours usage. Could be due to the heat. Working in air-con room will be fine.
Anyone encounter this problem?

Are you using any sort of keyboard sleeve or protector by the way ?

No, never use anything like that. Some people said it was due to logic board problem but I'm not really sure.
I can still use the bluetooth keyboard/mouse (if they're connected). Only the built in keyboard and trackpad have this problem.

Yup, just sent it there. Just asking if anyone have similar problem before. At least, I can know what I'm expecting later.
If really the logic board problem, then it's going to burn a big hole the pocket.

Just bought Macbook Pro a few hours ago. How long do i have to charge?

Hi last night i was using my macbook with my power adapter on like usual. Suddenly i realized that the end of the charger doesnt have the usual orange/green light anymore. I think it's a faulty adapter now. Anyone faced similar problems? What should i do?

Yes i did. Even tried the shorter cable to other point. Called up the service centre, been told that i have to get new one for RM300. I just had problem with the hairline crack at the topcase and now the adapter.

The normal 13 inches macbook with only 2GB isit good enuff to run photoshop for art purposes without lagging? if play game(some normal rpgs) ok ma?
And do you need to keep servicing it? Can it last for at least 3 years or more?

ouch... it's really almost 300 bucks for a 60W power adaptor. I hope mine holds up.
Apparently a bulk of the problems happen at where the wire connects to the magnetic connector. I remember reading somewhere that apple have fixed this FOC in some cases. Are you sure yours failed right at the power adaptor itself and not the cable?

for photoshop,it's good enuff edi with 2gb.plus,latest 13" using ddr3 edi.For game,i'm not sure.didn't play games with mac.

Actually if you buy a brand new Mac today, you are entitled to free upgrade to Snow Leopard when it launches. Anyway it's gonna be USD29 only - that's 10 times cheaper than Windows 7

Did u trying to clean the connectors on both end? Even with the lights not lit, can you see from the OS whether it's charging?

Received a quote from Apple service center regarding my problem on keyboard/trackpad hang after getting warm. Problem with the logic board and the repair cost RM2450 (including labor charge)... (Warranty period expired)

Called Apple Care toll free and ask for help... Wow, all I can say is very very good customer service !!! Listened to my problem then told me to cool down and he'll see what he can do to help me.
Later received a call from Apple service center informing me that Apple will take care of all the cost and I don't have to pay anything. Absolutely nothing!!! Even after warranty period.

The conversation with Apple Care Hotline operator ended with him telling me that he hope I'll be a happy mac user in future. Indeed I'm very happy with Apple.

Yes, will not be that happy because the MBP is just over 1 year plus.

Doesn't really matter either way. The MBA users and their devices have been "orphaned" since the first iteration anyway, so the "pain of segregation" has dulled to a numb throbbing wound anyway. The MBA caters to niche market, to an already niche subsets of Apple products, so the MBA users have learned to be independent and solve and troubleshoot our problems on our own without much whining, .....well, that holds true to me at least.

Hey, if this is an attempt to unify every portable Mac discussion under one roof, then great! Sure it's "water under the bridge" and all, but we also remember how "orphaned" we've become and treated around here. *shrugs*

that's rather bad i think, if i were you i'd bring it to one of the apple resellers to have them take a look at it, so far my 13" macbook pro has not given me any problems, there only has been one instance where i tried updating in the "software update" and the program didn't respond, and later when i tried to shut down, the computer hanged.. and i had no other choice than to hold on the on/off button.. but after that everything was fine, i resumed with the "software update" and no other problem..

Its a known issue with 8600GT MacBook Pros. Read it , my friend got his MacBook Pro replaced for free by Apple

Its not the logic board but its the stupid overheating graphics card which is causing the problem

Wanna ask something, for those who still have the old macbook (late 2007 model) does your macbook has any cracks? I just discover a few cracks on mine few days back



Its on the back, where the airduct (?) is located. Also my macbook seems to have a few dead pixel and i didnt have ACPP. Jolly good eh

it freezes 10~15seconds, yes, will send it to machines i think.

About the power adapter problem, if it doesn't charge sometimes due to the cues problem, you home unstable current cost that. Change the fuse yourself, it's rm0.50

The moral of the story, get ACPP next time.... You may be lucky this time due to a widespread issue, but you may not be as lucky next time if your non-ACPP-covered MBP screws up for an isolated incident...

may i know how to change my sethings?
when i click f3 it should be show like aero style,but now i click it then it will show search on firefox...
then f5 refresh...

then you should screw that guy you see in your room mirror for being to cheap not getting ACPP for a very expensive investment like yours , lol i dont get why people should be angry at Apple just because they didnt get the ACPP in the first place, when you buy an electronics good you have to sink in to the fact they do fail, nothing is soo impervious or "KEBAL".

Please set ENERGY SAVER (in SETTINGS) to HIGHER PERFORMANCE. Run on battery. Do a screen grab by pressing SHIFT + COMMAND + 3. Please let me know if you noticed any lag or system freeze after the screen grab shortcut key is press.

MBP 15" mid 2009 user here, I did a lil experiment on your situation. Yes, I did encounter a 2-3sec lag after performing the preen screen. Guys, any idea why this is happening?

Ermm... "not happy" doesn't mean angry. Instead I'm sad that I didn't get the ACPP in the first place.
Anyway, I'm getting the ACPP for my 17"MBP now.

oh shii... i got the same problem with keyboard an trackpad hang as well! but i know where the problem lies and it is NOT THE LOGIC BOARD.

it is actually the connector for the keyboard and mouse to the logic board just right above (or below if you turn your mbp up side down) the battery which is loose. i used a foam padding and put it on top of the connector so that the connector wont come loose it really helps

I'm not really sure what's wrong but it was the apple service center technician told me it's the logic board problem.
Hope they are right for my case.

have you sent yours to repair? if not you might want to try to try the method that i used



try placing a small padding or foam on the marked red spot.

it seems that the connector that connects the keyboard and trackpad to the logic board is loose due to the heat. when i took out my battery i can feel the cable is abit bulged out and when i used a padding and push it in between the battery and the cable so that the cable will not be too loose it solved the problem and i have no more unresponsive keyboard and trackpad.

Hey, thank you for the solution/picture. Already sent mine to apple for repair. They'll replace the logic board, if the problem persist then I'll try your solution.

my macbook pro start giving me problem as well the superdrive refused to read a blank CD R or DVD R when i wanted to burn something but when i put in commercial dvd like os x leopard dvd it works fine

what brand are those? sometimes it depends on the disc manufacturers also.

imation, mitsubishi, memorex. the cd r and dvd r burns well the last time i use it. no problem at all until recently. must be getting old and dusty inside since i havent been using the superdrive for more than half a year

Mine late 2008, and it's a minute lag. And it even random freezes while i am on HIGHER PERFORMANCE (9600 graphic card).

I just did a fresh install and will be monitoring this closely. If it random freezes again I will be updating AppleCare. From what they told me, the screen capture lag happens to all MBP with dual graphic card, however i guess yours 2 or 3 seconds is much better than mine.

Can u PM me your serial number? I would like to pass that to AppleCare for their investigation.

lastnight when using my macbook, my finger feels like got some static electricity on the surface... my mbp is full aluminium model...

when i change to other socket it is ok. it only happen in my rooms socket.

any ideal how to solve this? cuz keep on feeling like been 'shock'....

That happens when i touch my XBOX360's hard drive too. So far, my one day old macbook pro doesnt give me problems as of yet

From my experience, it Ur room or Ur house "Wayar Bumi" aka Green Cable not connected correctly to earth...

Last time got this shock problem, call the TNB, they only responsible beyond the meter. after the meter, it owner responsible.
so i call outside tech to check, why my pc feel "SHOCK", then found out, The Green Cable not touching or bury correctly in the ground.

Solution, put the green cable correctly and bury it.. look at outside ur house the red/"simen" box...

Still got 6 months to buy the ACPP...

Now after reading this thread it really affect my judgment on Apple MBP product. Plan to get a 13.3" myself. But I just might have to go to PC Fair and get a clear look at it. machine at MidValley Megamall doesn't display the 13" model..

ACCP = 1 year 3 years 5 years is it? i got 1 unit macbook white. bought almost 2 years back. can continue the warranty? i dont mind add some cash

you have to purchase the ACPP while your unit is still under the 1 year warranty.. since you mentioned you purchased your macbook two years back, so unfortunately it is too late..

the ACPP extends your warranty for another 2 years, meaning you get 3 years in total..

act for ACPP is good to invest for peace of mind if anything happen your Mac...

Just a quick question, I have a 15" Aluminium Macbook Pro (2008 version) with NVidia 9600 GT. I've noticed when I play graphic intensive games like HAWX or Lost Remnant (on Windows of course) my Macbook becomes very very hot. I suppose as it is aluminium, heat dissipates fast that's why it's hot on the outside. But my concerns comes with graphic card burning out (or even components melting!) during an intensive gaming workout. Has anybody faced any problems so far? I'm worried about coming soon games like Assassins Creed 2 and Dragon Age: Origins. But right now I can play most games on full (although Sims 3 lag when zooming out dunno why ). Other than that, I'm actually impressed with the Macbook Pro performance, it's like between mid and high class gaming laptop. Beats my home PC by miles .

guys this might not be related to my macbook just askin opinions....why is it always that my macbook finds it hard to connect to the airport or the ethernet at home....when outside all I have to do is to plug in the cable and I'm on9....but at home...it's so hard to connect...I can wait for half an hr and no connection.....even though it shows on system preferences that I am connected to both ports...

Might be modem problem, if ethernet got problem. Or might just be connection problem, if can try with another PC.

Go to System Preferences, click on the Keyboard & Mouse icon, then go to the Keyboard tab. Over there there should be a check box which says "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys."
If this box is checked, by default pressing F5 would execute a function which is related to the F5 key.
If this box is empty, by default pressing F5 would execute a function which is related to the picture on your keyboard (or whatever Apple relates it to).
You would want the box to be empty.
Also, the pressing of the fn key would reverse the effects. IE: Pressing the fn + F5 key while box is checked would do a Keyboard Backlight option.

Yes, but it will only work on Aluminium Macbook Pros. Maybe even just your model, as the 15 and 17" has different hardware.

Can anybody answer my question whether or not Aluminium Macbook Pros have burnt out graphic cards or melted components after some intense gaming (everything full for newest games except AA)

To preducer, MetalZone, and Nimrod, thanks for helping out. It's common to think that laptops (especially hot ones like these) can burn their graphics cards and components out. After further research however, I found that this such occurrence is extremely rare and is actually non-existent in the Macbook line-up.
I've noticed that my laptop gets hot real quick, but loses heat just as quick. This is to say, its safe to believe that "hot" is how the laptop should be when its using a lot of resources. And also, whenever temperature exceeds a certain limit, the resources will halt and the application would crash, giving ample of time for it to lose heat again. Think of it like the laptop is getting tired, just give it time to rest.
To Macbook Pro gamers, remember to keep the back of the macbook (underneath the screen, where the ventilation is) well ventilated. Elevate your Macbook if possible, or play it on a material which dissipates heat fast. I play mine on an Ikea glass table, it runs well as heat is dissipated quickly. When I move to a wooden table or put it on something like a cushion, it overheats quickly.

my earphone dock got problem. Is like when I plug in my earphone, i need to turn and twist the "connector" to get the right sound. it seems loose.

yes you should.. provided you're sure its not your earphone thats the problem.. your iPod should not have that kind of issue..

I have a Mid-2009 Macbook Air. I find that Firefox or FLV movie playing sends the temperature up high pretty quick and then the infamous kernel_task process starts taking up all the CPU (it's trying to cool the CPU down I think). Have no idea how to solve this sigh!

hmmm.. i recently thought of reformating my mac to clean out everything to get a brand new feel.. but i cant seem to find anything much about it on the net, why is that so? is there like another solution rather than re-installing the OS?

I did a test to compare having the thermapak and without... using CPUTest with big-FFT's and 2 instances (coz dual core). 11 minutes each. fan running at max approx 5900RPM.
Guess what? No difference in the reported temperatures. Haha.

Nevertheless, while playing COD4, there was an obvious difference in the temperature felt on the aluminium case and keyboard. CPUTest only stresses the CPU and RAM but does nothing to the GPU. With all 3 maxed out during gaming, it gets real hot. While this isn't any scientific test, at least I could feel it and I'm satisfied.

Yeah no difference. I was a little surprised as well. But then I guess the hottest chips aren't directly connected "thermally" to the outer aluminium shell. The outer aluminium shell gets indirectly heated up via convection. The Thermapak however does a good job at cooling this outer shell which should in turn make the internals slightly cooler if the test was given more time to run and with a graphically+CPU intensive test.

I guess if I repeated this test with COD4 for an hour each I should be able to see a quantifiable difference. Speaking from having tried playing COD4 without the thermapak before, it does get scarily HOT and I don't feel like trying it again hahaha. With the thermapak it's much more bearable.

Have you tried thermapak with the MB on for 24hours? What is the average temperature that your MB is showing with the thermapak?
I'm quite interested in the thermapak but not too sure of the durability as I keep my MB on for 24/7.

If your MB isn't doing anything intensive for 24 hours it shouldn't get hot. Thus having a thermapak or not doesn't matter.

What are doing on ur MB that you need to run it 24/7? Torrent?

If ever I need to torrent (not very often), I do it on my desktop, not my lappies. Just don't fancy the idea of leaving my MBP on 24/7/365

sometimes it's for torrenting.. sometimes I just leave it on standby..
I've seen reviews on the thermapak showing that there is only approx 4~6deg C improvements from the notebook point of view but if it's on the lap, then there is a great difference..

from reviews i've read, it should reduce atleast 8c-10c

oh. standby? you mean sleep? I wouldn't call that leaving it on. haha. I never shut down my mac unless i'm cleaning it. Always sleep only.
