QUOTE(Crusader @ Jul 20 2009, 04:33 PM) My 15" year 2008 magbook pro (not unibody) started to have problem... sigh. Are you using any sort of keyboard sleeve or protector by the way ?The keyboard and trackpad will hang after 2 hours usage. Could be due to the heat. Working in air-con room will be fine. Anyone encounter this problem? Added on July 20, 2009, 5:10 pm QUOTE(Crusader @ Jul 20 2009, 04:33 PM) My 15" year 2008 magbook pro (not unibody) started to have problem... sigh. QUOTE(Crusader @ Jul 21 2009, 03:04 PM) Received a quote from Apple service center regarding my problem on keyboard/trackpad hang after getting warm. Problem with the logic board and the repair cost RM2450 (including labor charge)... (Warranty period expired) Its a known issue with 8600GT MacBook Pros. Read it , my friend got his MacBook Pro replaced for free by AppleCalled Apple Care toll free and ask for help... Wow, all I can say is very very good customer service !!! Listened to my problem then told me to cool down and he'll see what he can do to help me. Later received a call from Apple service center informing me that Apple will take care of all the cost and I don't have to pay anything. Absolutely nothing!!! Even after warranty period. The conversation with Apple Care Hotline operator ended with him telling me that he hope I'll be a happy mac user in future. Indeed I'm very happy with Apple. Its not the logic board but its the stupid overheating graphics card which is causing the problem |

Bad news for macbookers
QUOTE SnowLeopard and 64-bit. Source : http://netkas.org/August 14th 2009 Posted to Snow Leopard It looks like not all users understand about 64-bit support in snow leopard. So, here is how it works: on all Macs, except xserve, system boots by default 32-bit kernel. This kernel can run 64-bit apps justs fine on core 2/core i7 based cpuz. 64-bit kernel works only on macs with 64-bit efi, this is limitation set by Apple, technicaly 64-bit kernel can be launched by 32-bit efi just fine. also Apple disabled 64-bit kernel support for any macbooks, even with 64-bit efi. 64-bit Kernel can run both 32 and 64 bit apps. On hackintosh only cpus with ssse3 can run 64-bit kernel/apps, its core2/corei7 based cpus. if kernel is 64-bit, then it can load only 64-bit kexts. if kernel is 32-bit, then it can load only 32-bit kexts. Userspace program cant load plugins with other architecture, for example menumeters will work only when you booted legacy, so menubar created by 32-bit application. Quicktime uses InterProcess Communications(IPC) to load 32-bit codecs in 64-bit player. 64-bit safari uses IPC to load 32-bit flash player plugin. To try to boot x86_64 kernel on Macintosh, edit this file: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist find there: <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string></string> and change it to <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=x86_64</string> What this means is that even if your Macbook supports 64-bit (i.e core 2 duo) , Snow Leopard will run in 32-bit environment instead of 64-bit. This is because Apples BIOS (EFI) doesn't allow 64-bit support. This is bad for macbook users as their mac is capable of running in 64-bit environment but apple doesn't allow them to do so ! |

QUOTE(daydreaming @ Aug 15 2009, 11:06 PM) mmm surely there's a reason for them to do so? it's lk limiting the potential of their own machines. :T and it's quite a bad thing to do when win 7 is jz around the corner QUOTE(jinaun @ Aug 15 2009, 11:12 PM) From what I've heard the reason why apple is limited is that some hardware devices aren't support in 64-bit environment. But I think this is just pure cock and bull story as they do work well in 64-bit linux and 64-bit windows |

Its not limited by Apple , but limited by your graphics card power and the amount of VRAM

QUOTE(lemonie @ Oct 5 2009, 11:12 PM) is the folder with question mark at bootup common with mbp? my mbp now needs a new hdd. D= . 3 weeks + old mbp.. hope once its changed , this thing won't happen again IT simply means that "EFI" can't find a bootable OSX partition. Thats why you see a ? logo. It happens if your HDD is dead , you've formatted OSX , etcIts related to HDD by the way , you can still boot to another windows partition or osx partition on a USB stick or drive |

Stop giving false answers
It depends , try holding 6 and 4 keys together to check if it boots in 64-bit kernelspace. If it does , then you're in. Otherwise wait for 10.6.2 |

QUOTE(sudhirian @ Jan 22 2010, 01:09 PM) hey there guys, finally got my mbp after a lotta consideration money n this n that...as usual being a noob definitely we all tend into running into some probs...so mine is simple to some but i can't seem to figure it out...tried searching on google but came up without any solutions. Can you upload the installers for both E1550 and Maxis. What I can do is that I can use my 1337 knowledge of hackint0sh and try to come up with a solution. a Kext wrapper to wrap both up my prob is that i am using both DiGi and Maxis broadband for work and play, thing is its the same Huawei modem different models so everytime i plug either one in i've got to reinstall the maxis Mobile Partner driver because it asks me "Do you want to install a different version of the application?" and then vice versa so at the end i have to restart all over again. This is pretty silly, why doesn't OS X recognise that it comes from 2 different mobile ISPs and different models (DiGi is E1550 and Maxis is E1762)? is there a work-around dear sifus? Thx. |

QUOTE(piscesguy @ Apr 14 2010, 08:31 AM) Its cause of licensing issues , apple is still using nvidia motherboard for 13" macbook pro as opposed to intel for their 15 and 17 MBP. nvidia is not allowed to make P55 chipsets , they are stuck with LGA775 (and its mobile variant) |
