Yes i did. Even tried the shorter cable to other point. Called up the service centre, been told that i have to get new one for RM300. I just had problem with the hairline crack at the topcase and now the adapter.
*
ouch... it's really almost 300 bucks for a 60W power adaptor. I hope mine holds up.
Apparently a bulk of the problems happen at where the wire connects to the magnetic connector. I remember reading somewhere that apple have fixed this FOC in some cases. Are you sure yours failed right at the power adaptor itself and not the cable?

I did a test to compare having the thermapak and without... using CPUTest with big-FFT's and 2 instances (coz dual core). 11 minutes each. fan running at max approx 5900RPM.
Guess what? No difference in the reported temperatures. Haha.

Nevertheless, while playing COD4, there was an obvious difference in the temperature felt on the aluminium case and keyboard. CPUTest only stresses the CPU and RAM but does nothing to the GPU. With all 3 maxed out during gaming, it gets real hot. While this isn't any scientific test, at least I could feel it and I'm satisfied.

Yeah no difference. I was a little surprised as well. But then I guess the hottest chips aren't directly connected "thermally" to the outer aluminium shell. The outer aluminium shell gets indirectly heated up via convection. The Thermapak however does a good job at cooling this outer shell which should in turn make the internals slightly cooler if the test was given more time to run and with a graphically+CPU intensive test.

I guess if I repeated this test with COD4 for an hour each I should be able to see a quantifiable difference. Speaking from having tried playing COD4 without the thermapak before, it does get scarily HOT and I don't feel like trying it again hahaha. With the thermapak it's much more bearable.

If your MB isn't doing anything intensive for 24 hours it shouldn't get hot. Thus having a thermapak or not doesn't matter.

What are doing on ur MB that you need to run it 24/7? Torrent?

If ever I need to torrent (not very often), I do it on my desktop, not my lappies. Just don't fancy the idea of leaving my MBP on 24/7/365

While playing game with the Thermapak, do you still feel the heat from the body of the MB or is there a significant heat reduction, especially on the palm rest next to the huge touchpad?
*
can still feel the heat... but significantly reduced.
the palm rest doesn't get that hot... it's the top left corner that gets heated up the most. and you can also feel some of the heat coming from the underneath the keyboard at the usual position you play FPS games (wasd keys). coz this area is where most of the heat is generated and where the fan and heatsink is located.
underneath the left palmrest is just the battery, whereas underneath the right palmrest is the HDD.

how bad is the scratch? which part got scratched? can you bear with it?
I haven't checked out a MacPro really closely yet, but I believe they are anodized aluminium. NOT painted. So you can't paint it to conceal a scratch.

Thanks for bringing up the immersion sensor. Having my first apple product, I'm not aware they had that. Some research showed that they had put several in the macbook, notably under a few of the keys in the keyboard.

http://www.hardmac.com/news/2009/07/16/mor...ensors-of-apple

The thing that freaks me in out apple's policy is this:
QUOTE
The indicators will not be triggered by temperature and humidity that is within the product's environmental requirements described by Apple. A triggered indicator will turn red or pink,

We live in Malaysia. And typically our humidity level is at least 70% R.H. EDIT: to as much as 100% in prolonged heavy rain. Apple's operating specs say up to 90% non-condensing. High humidity alone will turn the indicators pink in due time as shown in the above article. Plus, every week I shut down my MBP and clean it with a damp cloth. Thats more humidity for you.

Condensation? Another whole new topic. Wearers of glasses will know.

I don't know how tolerant is Apple towards triggered immersion sensors in humid Malaysia, but having read how in a worse-case-scenario someone had their warranty void just because ONE sensor was triggered when it in fact has not been in contact with water.

The above reasons plus the fact that spilling anything on your keyboard, however minor it may be, may have serious consequences; makes me consider getting a keyboard protector.

Any input on the above?

actually apple wouldnt nullify your warranty if the immersion sensors were indeed triggered by humidity alone, they would probably look behind your keys or the logic board for any sign of liquid spill, for me though the likelihood of anything spilling on my keyboard is far lesser than dropping the laptop on the floor. I'd not recommend a keyboard protector as it covers the heat vents underneath the keyboard, which is a wide area to disperse heat.
*
Well I seriously hope so. iphone users have not been very lucky so far with many users worldwide having their warranty voided because their immersion sensors were triggered without actually being immersed.
I avoided keyboard protectors so far for the same reason you mentioned.

-I believe you can get a DVI/Mini DVI to VGA converter, no problem there. Where do you get the idea that an external large screen will heat up GC?
I'm not sure what you mean here, but in case, note that the MiniDisplay Port to DVI convertor from Apple outputs only the digital signal, a.k.a. DVI-I. You need DVI-D which has an analog signal as well to be able to convert to VGA. So if you try to plug in a commonly available DVI-D to VGA convertor into Apple's MiniDisplay Port to DVI-I converter you will get no signal.

I didn't bother with all those protection. A sleeve is all I use, and slot into my deuter backpack while inside the sleeve when I need to take it out.

Anybody found a suitable wrist rest for the MBP13"?
With the MBP placed on the thermapak it's quite raised and makes using the trackpad bad for ergonomics (don't wanna get carpal tunnel syndrome). I'm using the neoprene wrist rest from my Corepad for now.

Regardless what people say about not needing partitioning on macs, I have my home folder relocated to a dedicated partition. smile.gif I like it this way. HFS+ filesystem isn't as good as you think.

Hi all, i hope i am asking this in the correct section.

I am thinking about getting MS Office 2008 (as it is the only one widely available in the market now) for my mac. My question is that because i am working mostly on MS Office 2003 formats for work on my Windows work laptop, will compatibility be an issue? Will the formatting of the file run? How about for excel and powerpoints?

I appreciate any feedbacks from all of you. Thanks in advance.
*
I think Office 2003 should be no problem? But as you said, the formatting "lari" a bit from your experience. I guess it happens la.

From experience, if you are used to Office 2007 and you use a lot of their new features, you may be disappointed with Office for Mac 2008. I noticed quite a fair bit of features in Office 2007 are missing in Office 2008. To note a few off my head, icon based filters doesn't work in excel; the excellent drawing features with gridlines and stuff in Word 2007 is nonexistent; equations are also missing in word. I use these features a lot after upgrading to Office 2007 and not having them in Office 2008 is very disappointing to me. If you're coming from earlier versions of Office then you wouldn't miss these features.

Yup Dude Bingo! thats y im trying to explained.. smile.gif
i think this is cause by power adapter that charged the MBP although I have switch off my machines.

If i unplug the power adapter the slight "vibration" will stop....even my external hdd under firewire...

Grounding issue is not a problem at all. Coz i dont feel any static shock at all...im using Belkin Surge Master  biggrin.gif

P/S: Do u guys unplug the power adapter after u switch off the laptop?
*
I noticed this myself too during the early days of owning my MBP. But now I don't feel it anymore though. I never noted/noticed the difference with and without plugging in. However, my brother and my mother still feels this "vibration" (when plugged in, never tested without). Perhaps I got used to it that it doesn't affect me at all now.

Also during the early days I also felt an occasional electric shock from the front edges of my MBP (plugged in). Now I never notice it.
