Actually if you buy a brand new Mac today, you are entitled to free upgrade to Snow Leopard when it launches. Anyway it's gonna be USD29 only - that's 10 times cheaper than Windows 7

Mine does have the same problem once a while, even though it's less than 6 months old. Sometimes a bad connection to the lappie is the issue. Did u trying to clean the connectors on both end?
