Advise for all possible Dell U2410 buyer, try to avoid this monitor at all cost!!!

The monitor come with a manufacturer defect of Pink/Green Tint issue, and the solution provided by Dell was "Within Spec" and "Show me a 24" EIZO for $529 and lets compare." By Dell.

You can look into the matter here:

Quick google suggests it's a hardware issue affecting some monitors using LG IPS screens.

Tried setting a white screen, raised contrast to max, doesn't seem like anything to me. Any other way to test the tint issue?

Not all monitor have that tinting problem. If yours is free from that, than congrat. No need to go find that problem yourself~ biggrin.gif The tinting issue is obvious in white background, and damn obvious in a light grey background. Contrast level 50 edi can see the different~ smile.gif ofcos, more high more significant. you can use "paint" to do the test. just chose the light grey color beside white.

Hi to all,
been thinking of buying a new lcd panels. Seriously need helps and recommendations from you all sifu here. notworthy.gif

My budget: 400 to 600 bucks, don't mind adding up if the product is very good and worth the pennies i spent.

My requirement:

1)Not smaller then 22 inch. Prefer 23 or 24 inch tho if possible. Bigger is Bettar!!! wub.gif

2)Full HD is a must. Decent colour and good brightness. Preferably with 2ms response time coz I am a gamer doh.gif

3)Not really sure about 16:9 or 16:10, does it make any difference?

4)HDMI is not required as I believe we only need it for ps3/xbox360, right? Or does hdmi offer any advantage on computers compare to DVI?

5)Doesn't really care about the brand as long as the product itself is good. Or maybe the warranty and after sales services? doh.gif

Right now I'm looking at
Acer X233H <--- Cheaper 23inch I can find.
Acer H233H <--- More pricey but same size as above, is it good?
AOC 2434 <--- Heard LOTS of ppl recommending this but over my budgets, does it worth the money?

MY friend just bought a benQ 22inch lcd for just rm399 shocking.gif Is this price possible? Or he get conned liao?
How about other brands like Viewsonic, LG, HP, Fujitsu, Dell, ASUS, Samsung and LOT"S MORE.... until I pengsang liao rclxub.gif cry.gif

notworthy.gif Please HELP me to choose a good LCD monitor THanks for your times notworthy.gif Sifu

22inch lcd rite now price around rm400-rm600. depend on what brand.by the way..benq 22inch also hv many model...so rm399 can consider cheap for 22inch..and can be possible..but in market also benq G-model price around rm450++.but for E-model and V-Model(new led lcd type) still pricey coz hv better spec.. acer also value for money..but.if u looking for profesional lcd type..u can make BenQ E-model and V-model as ur example.

2)Full HD is a must. Decent colour and good brightness. Preferably with 2ms response time coz I am a gamer  doh.gif FullHD = Yes. Dis LCD have 5ms response time, im gamer oso using dis LCD and imo this doesn't really effect me smile.gif

3)Not really sure about 16:9 or 16:10, does it make any difference? im not lcd expert but the different is 16:10 screen a little "higher" than 16:9 lcd if not mistaken. Oso 24" 16:10 have 1920x1200 reso while 16:9 have 1920x1080 reso. And 16:10 is more expensive. If im wrong pls correct me.

4)HDMI is not required as I believe we only need it for ps3/xbox360, right? Or does hdmi offer any advantage on computers compare to DVI? DVI is enough if u juz use PC for usual task

5)Doesn't really care about the brand as long as the product itself is good. Or maybe the warranty and after sales services?  doh.gif

Hi there,

Ohh.. no... So funny here. Previous week, you and others recommended this monitor and I look at specs and found that it's quite good. Read a few posts and review in cnet and etc. So I bought a unit also last week and arrive last week. Was using it over the weekend. Excellent monitor.

Now pulak, you say there are issues here. Wt, ha ha...

I read some post that not all are affect with this. Can you post some screen shots of your issues that you face on this? Now in office, not yet look at the issues, hopefully none finger cross.

Additonally, you mentioned in your other posts that you have change quite a couple of times the monitor previously. Hopefully, I am not getting your first monitor because it came quite fast. Initially, there was a person from India who contact me saying that the monitor is in India under production (Tuesday) and the goods arrived in Malaysia on Thurs!! Either efficient production and super post laju. Ha.. ha...

Did you sent back to Dell due to these issue on Pink/Green Tint? Thanks.

I've been using Benq V2400W for 2 years now and plan to change to a new monitor.

Personally for me, the V2400W is one the top TN panel monitors, I've tried Dell S2409W and Viewsonic VX2260 and they pale in comparison in terms of rich colors and brightness/contrast.

Any recommendations for a monitor that can equally perform or better?

Just set the whole screen into white/black/blue/red colour, if there is dead pixel, you can see one dot like a dirt one.

My experience on the dead pixel, I only found it after a day, once I read some document,, somehow taught there is a dirt on screen, so try to rub it off, but found only, it cannot be rubbed off. Then set the screen into colour as mentioned then found it.

.................
Asia's U2410 is likely to be produced only in China .... the call centre maybe in India (not the production facility). Info available on the plastic tab behind the USB ports/card reader.

Tint issue.. Green on left screen.... Pink on the right side (or other variations of screen uniformity)... Mine U2410 has it to, but very slightly on grey background, un-noticeable on white background. Tint issue varies from panel to panel. You can fault LG's production and Dell not getting the cream of the crop (Apple, NEC, Eizo and HP gets first dibs.)

Your monitor should be new, it is the request for replacements that may get refurb. units.

There is also the dithering issue on Abode RGB and sRGB modes. This will be address with new firmware. Very bad on Dell's part.. 2 and 1/2 years ago with the 2407wfp banding (firmware issue), still with firmware issue with the latest Ultra I guess it maybe wise to always wait for rev A01 on Dell's product...

Hi,

Thanks for your input here.

Btw, not sure whether you are connecting your PS3/video to the monitor, how do you connect the sound output from monitor to sound speaker beside buying a Dell speaker extension? I have connected the HDMI cable from video player to monitor and wondering how to connect it to sound speaker? Do you unplug the speaker that is connected to computer to the monitor? Or do you need to buy another kind of cable? Thanks.

I think AOC 2434pw got gradient banding issue. I scroll up and down while viewing the tester, the color seems running. Does it occur with other monitor?

How to test the tinted issue then?

Not all monitor have that tinting problem. If yours is free from that, than congrat. No need to go find that problem yourself~  biggrin.gif The tinting issue is obvious in white background, and damn obvious in a light grey background. Contrast level 50 edi can see the different~ smile.gif ofcos, more high more significant. you can use "paint" to do the test. just chose the light grey color beside white.

Hi there,

Ohh..

Thanks.

Hi there,

How do know the unit got some dead pixels? How do you test it? Looking at each pixel individually?  ohmy.gif lol

Thanks

Nah~~i never recommend ppl in buying U2410. You can check the previous thread version 7~ not me~ biggrin.gif i only said what was the thing convince me. I only do the math in pricing, but that time i tot premium panel should be free from problem. But i guess im wrong. Its Dell!! sweat.gif
Yeah, on the term or pricing and the "introduction" of dell web site, it really attractive, but than who know the real unit is come with so many problem.. its manufacturer defect which you could only found out when you had 1. and based on the performance of my LCD, i can say that the web site info is all fake, and its cheating..i know thats rude, but its true shakehead.gif

nope..screen shot is unable to let u see the problem as its physically green and pink. Only a camera and photoshop with saturation boost do the work, but i dont have photoshop and a good camera. You can see the photo by others who have this problem in dell forum.

That one depend on luck actually, not every unit have that problem. but i dont have your kind of luck. tongue.gif yes, i had send it back, but the new 1 is come with more serious problem.
Pink tint on upper right, green tint of lower left, and serious backlight bleeding (i only notice this when my friend came over yesterday). he din notice the tint until i told him, but the first thing he notice is backlight bleeding which i dont know what is that until yesterday.

*
actually for warranty..there is possible for you to get a new unit~ smile.gif i got a new unit for my 3rd replacement without showing my anger. smile.gif
yes, dithering issue is also 1 of the problem of U2410. smile.gif you all can test it here: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php
u will see the different between srgb/adobe rgb and other mode~

OK I checked out my screens. Tried several shades of grey, all appeared grey on max brightness and contrast.

Then I went to Dell's community forum and yawn.gif the Reply/delicious/digg bar appears a very light pink.

Using that colour, I created an image, filled that colour and displayed fullscreen. No green. Just a light pink same shade across the entire screen. Also, it only seems to affect it at 80++ contrast level. I'm using much lower than that, so I guess I won't bother risking getting a crap refurbished unit for something I won't notice 99.9999% of the time (unlike the dithering issue)

Hi UltraConductor,

Ok, noted on your comments above. Would like to check with you also whether you have connected the HDMI cables to video/PS3? For the sound output, did you use a 3.5 mm line to connect to the monitor? BeastX is also checking on this. Thanks in advance.

Actually, kind of redundant but an option none-the-less (if you have analog input speakers). If you already have audio out by ps3/pc/x-box through stereo audio analog out, there is no need to pipe digital audio through HDMI of the monitor that converts the audio to analog.

I see it as just a convenience for Dell's attached speakers or a cheap digital to analog audio decoder piped through HDMI.

last few weeks also like tat. website saying offer only valid till when and when. but then after tat offer period, i go and check website, new date in showing there and the price is still the same. old marketing gimmick trick used by dell. wonder y they still dont wanna reduce the price to make them more competitive to other brand like aoc and viewsonic. their price for the same range monitor is much cheaper..

i think the problem is synchronization between CCC and game graphic setting, last time when i played game and quit, my desktop icons all messed up.
i think CCC is really the root cause of the prb, wondering nVidia users encounter this kind of prb or not? whistling.gif

Excatly. Most times Dell would just extend the promotion date without any significant price drops. However, once in a while they do giveaway very good deals on a very short period. There were incidents where their database showed prices way below market (typo error due to misplaced .) and some lucky ppl got the sweet deal before Dell technician fixed the typo. Nuff said Dell had to honor the 'wrong' price quoted. smile.gif

Heh. I've use the G2410. It's as it says, the brightness level does flickers as it tries to respond to the light level sensors to give us an optimal brightness. Unfortunately that feature seems to be rather immature and is unable to take smaller and less noticeable brightness steps instead of the rather distinctive flicker.

I do not know if there is a suitable lighting condition can eliminate it or not as I had only used it in one lighting condition. What I do is to simply turn off the power saving mode and just fixed it to the brightness level I was comfortable with - just like a regular LCD. You will still get your power savings and colour accuracy thanks to the LED backlights so it's not a big problem.

i know..that one is long already..but it is in W+ 16:10 form..and i think there's none offered in Dell Malaysia right now..plus for that price u could buy the iMac itself..haha..I was hoping the 27" 16:9 version will not be that expensive..as the last 16:10 27" by dell is around 2k price only.

did u sent it to the shop?..usually the shop will wait until there are a lot of items to sent for the warranty to the supplier..if u sent directly to the supplier should be faster..for 1 to 1 exchange, sometime u can get in the same day if they got stock..but there are also some supplier that need at least 1 week to check whether the problem caused by customer/the manufacturer..

Try put your monitor on other PC/lappy. If prob still exist, then you gonna bring your LCD to RMA/repair.

LCD might break down @ the first day you carry back home, now it served you one year ++ you're lucky lo bro.
Bring your LCD to RMA if under warranty, otherwise ask someone to repair.

i expect the lcd could last for at least 3-4 years,

the warranty period is over already,is it worth fixing at all or just buy a new one?

Erm how should i explain. It is impossible to take screen shot because if i pause the line will gone, and only noticeable if the screen moving fast. Just some tiny line. only for a while, not even 1 sec.

Both of them are not enough for you too play wii as it is too small. H233H has glossy screen while X233H does not. But glossy comes with a higher price too. X233H is around 600 and H233H is around 650. That's the price I asked when i purchase my H233H. FYI, it's gorgeous! rclxms.gif
As i know, both of them does not have TV In slot, you will have to find an adapter in order for yourr wii to connect to the LCD.

Haha, what I meant was, it is not enough for you to play wii. That's what I felt. Not that it cant use to play wii. smile.gif
From my point off view, wii is best playing thru a LCD TV because it involves a lot of movement, you don't want to stand too close when you hit that tennis ball with you wii controller.
Just my 2 cents. biggrin.gif

Depends... Those with frame rate conversion and video scaling is more expensive (uses a bigger video buffer). Those that don't are cheaper (use smaller buffer, usually per scan line only).. wink.gif

However those that convert to DVI/HDMI are a bit more pricey than those convert to VGA output... sweat.gif

LOL! I think the price you use to buy your LCD and VGA box will be higher than your wii. But nonetheless, it should be fine with table tennis game if you are playing inside your room. smile.gif

A few drawback I found out about my angelo:

1) The LCD display itself is not very firmly connected to the stand at the bottom, it tends to swing (in a small magnitude) when I accidentally hit my table, or may be it just the problem of my table sad.gif

2) Cable lenght between the adapter to the power input in LCD (not adapter to switch) is not long enough, the adapter cannot reach ground when I connect the power input to my LCD, so it's hanging there. But now I manage to place it on my CPU casing.

3) Tilt angle of 20 degree is only for one direction, that is upward only. The problem is my mattress is on the floor, and my LCD is on the table, so I cannot get a good viewing angle when I'm watching LCD from my mattress, need to place something at the bottom of the stand to tilt it downward sad.gif

Well, that's only something to share, after all, it's a good LCD biggrin.gif
Currently playing Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2 with this 23.6" LCD, enjoy biggrin.gif

this lcd is fullhd 1920x1080. if u buy 1980x1020 and play a console like ps3/xbox360, the image either stretch to fit screen or it will have black border.

no issues when using pc.

I totally agree with this. I would wish to place the transformer on the floor, juz dunno which type of extension wire i should buy, and what that extension called.

No, it's not that. Pixel density is usually measured in pixels per inch. The smaller the screen, i.e. a 22" with full HD native resolution, the higher the density. Meaning a sharper image compared to a 25" screen which will have a less dense pixel spread.

I've faced the same problem too when I first bought my 23 inch screen, I do not know what caused that dot, it seems like the dot could not display black color, but not having problem showing white. After pressing against the dot, it disappeared. laugh.gif

It could be "stuck pixels" or dead pixels, try using Dead Pixel Tester (from the first thread post) to see if that particular area is affected. hmm.gif

Its not a dead or stucked pixel. I said that because i already tried to scroll up the video to move the "suspected dead or stucked pixel". But it seems the blue dots are following the video when i scroll it up or down. Anyone know what it is?. I already tested that DPT software up there and all is fine. My monitor doesnt have dead or stucked pixel.

My monitor doesnt have dead or stucked pixel.
Blue dots follow video and not stationany on screen.... badly encoded video... or the monitor just doesn't know how to display the correct shade...

i also same problem as you, but mine is inverse ghosting effect, you say it weren't. i still dont get a picture yet sweat.gif . sorry if im the only one who doesn't get it. well the best way is to warranty it. i myself going for it, just a matter of time whistling.gif .

*oh yeah, perhaps you can try playing with contrast/brightness and color temp setting.. smile.gif. that's what i do for my problem.
* you can enable DRC at "luminance" tab

Its considered kinda "old skool"... a bit rare nowadays. wink.gif Usually a 12V AC to DC adapter unit (2.5A, 3A or higher).. Back then I even modified one to be powered from the PC (since PC have already 12VDC rail).. brows.gif

I've already placed my order for DELL 21.5” fullHD monitor (S14ST2210MY) for $609. Just the basic spec without any added accessories. Add $40 more can get me 23” but I'm just fine with 21”.
What's more, the priceis just a little bit over from my initial budget. Its always so tempting to go one step higher for the spec looking at the slight price difference. Later if I choose the 23”, I'll then be tempted to get the24”. You guys know what I mean?

Hey guys, Im thinking of getting a 23" monitor, and had these 2 models in mind after reading some reviews,
Viewsonic VX2433wm 23"
Samsung SyncMaster 2333SW
Samsung SyncMaster 2343BWX (2048x1152)

So Im wondering, since the price doesnt differ too much, which is a better buy? Im more in watching movie and also was thinking of pluggin in Xbox360 into it. So which resolution is better? The 2048x1152 looks tempting to me.. haha
Really appreciate any opinions! Thx

Not necessarily. There are other factors that come into play with bigger LCDs. Pixel density or picture sharpness is one of them. But I suppose it is negligible enough to be ignored.

LG +1 for design, -1 for contrast compare to BenQ, but both the delay time is the same. So, for me I would go for BenQ, because LG electronics have failed me a lot, while my old BenQ 19inch still kicking. biggrin.gif

Was going to get the LG for the design also tongue.gif
But after what u said, now back to the research phase again....

But since they both giving the same warranty period of 3 years, anything I can juz send back to them right?
LG has more service centers than BenQ right?

What is the best car?

Naturally the answer will be the same. The more you pay, the better quality you get. So, your question should have been rephrased with a budget so that we can recommend the best possible LCD for that particular budget.

Hi all,

May I know what is the best option available for Wide screen LCD (1920x1080) for viewing blue-ray movies?

Screen size: 21.5" / 22" (due to space constraint)

Budget: RM 400- RM 700

Hardware reliability (quality control) is important to me.

Thanks in advance and have a nice day. biggrin.gif

Can anyone help me identify my problem? Sometimes whether i watching anime or movie, if the character moving i can notice some line like in the pic below. What is that?

After few test, it seems only my media player classic facing this problem. Although sometimes i did notice also in game. Any solution? Because I already used to media player classic, and somehow i feel the picture quality in media player classic is better compare to zoom player and window media player. Any other nice recommendation?

Have you tried updating your video CODECs? Try CCCP... now with MPC-HC. wink.gif

Yes, it true that you can just sent them back to warranty.
And yes, LG has more service center compare to BenQ.
But for me I would choose one that does'nt require me to sent it back RMA. biggrin.gif
So, I've seen the bad side of LG and Samsung, and wont be getting any product from them soon.
I'm currently using Acer. Not bad though. rclxms.gif

early this month i've sent my lg w1953t for rma to distributor

i bought it for rm378 in september this year.

today when i call the company, they ask me to topup rm30 for brand new w2043s which they claimed that there is no spare part/stock for the old model.

when i checked at the shop i bought the lcd(all it), the w2043s is only rm399 and the w1953t(rm379) is still widely on sale at lowyat. i also found out that WXX43S series is older than WXX53T series.

do they have the right to ask me to do so?i think that i should not pay anything. what is your say?

Unless the pixel is on the not so obvious area and u are willing to live with it.....

I juz bought an Acer P255HQ for RM509 from shop and I specifically ask them if I could exchange it 1 to 1 even if there's only 1 dead pixel
and they said no problem thumbup.gif so I didnt check it in their shop ...

For me, I will top up. Consider sell away faulty unit and grad a new unit back. renew warranty. Better then waste time waiting spare part. I kinda love this offer.

Btw what happen to your w1953t? no even half year.

Today saw the Viewsonic advertisement in the Star Intech.
They said the monitors come with 3 years onsite warranty.
Does it means that they will come to your house to replace the monitor (as what Dell is doing)?

Samsung will accept only more than 6 DPs, AOC not sure. But you can ask.

Even if u purchase from seller here, u should have the rights to have 1 to 1 exchange because u juz purchase. Anyway I think AOC is 0 dead pixel policy i think. try go their website to read.

in that case, it would be your call because if u were to repair it, it will be the same as getting a "refurbished" one...
Shipping cost will also be another factor to be considered...

I do think it's really hard for the companies to give 0 dead pixel policy because they will have alot of returned lcds if they were to practise it.
They are profit makers also, for sure want to minimize cost....

For things like lcd, it's best to get it from physical shop where one could check for dead pixel on the spot....

Dell has a cheaper 24" LED monitor, the G2410 at RM899. By the way, if I was paying over RM1k for a LCD monitor, I'd be looking for something with a IPS panel instead.

I wonder do people use Plasma TV as their monitors for PC.

Plasma TVs are really cheap in Australia. I just saw a decent brand 42inch Plasma going for AU$600 which is around RM1.8k.

With that budget of yours, there is no problem for you to get a 22ich LCD, it's just depending on which brand you go for. =)
If you want cheap, you can go for AOC? But I myself prefer Acer. =)

Yeah, IPS panel monitors are expensive as it was perfect for graphic designer. For gamers / normal user, TN panel monitors is better.

Difference should be only the dynamic contrast ratio.
But then again dynamic contrast ratio doesnt really matter much as most of the time we dont switch it on.

From my experience, dynamic contrast ratio is a function that automatically adjust the brightness/contrast to fit a certain scene.

i wrote there p2370hd..
you have problem reading?
p2370hd is upgrade version of p2370 which even include hdmi port..
and it's score 9.4/10 in testfreak.com..
the price if i'm not wrong..which i seen about 2 weeks ago is 700~800...

and sometimes dun just compare the specs between things..
think about your usage..and your own requirement...
find something that suits you and not always going for higher specs..
plus human eyes are't that great to notify so big difference with 50cd/m2 if u using it in normal environment....
it's just like a non-gamer person buying a nvidia 295GTX or radeon 5890...why waste so much money that u won't fully ultilise the thing...?

aiks..
u dun really know what i mean...
monitor refresh rate don't have anything to do with your fps but your gc does...

the very truth is i played l4d and check the fps where my fps is higher than 100++ when my monitor is in 75hertz..
and i run dmc4 benchmark my fps is at around 85..
so do you still think refresh rate can limit your fps?

if you see a line when playing in your monitor..
that's mean monitor refresh rate is not fast enough to generate the graphics as it skip the process to generate the current frame and straight away generate the next frame...

of course higher the better la..price also higher the better ma...
who dun noe..

but back in the topic, just telling him that

1. refresh rate is not related to fps in anyway..
2. 75hertz is still not enough in gaming as in my case, i still see lines when playing games..

it's the settings of your game that matter the fps as some game u can set fps max at certain point..some 60,some lower..but never above 60..
you can try set it to variable fps if the game provides this settings

it's the settings of your game that matter the fps as some game u can set fps max at certain point..some 60,some lower..but never above 60..
you can try set it to variable fps if the game provides this settings

hi i have a dillelma here, currently my crt monitor problematic so now i have two choice, AOC 2236Vw LCD and LGW2043S. AOC is rm530 while LG is rm408. AOC have hdmi input while LG do not have, my current rig is old p4 rigs and the graphic card does not have hdmi port. But i also plan for another second rig with better spec. So guys can give some advice? Is hdmi really necessary other than for xbox/ps3? Watching hd movies?

guys.. which is a better lcd?
acer h233h
viewsonic vx2433wm
dell st2410..

just wanna use it for gaming, online n watching video.. i wan hdmi for future console use... other than the above, which samsung u guys recommend below rm700.. with or w/o hdmi oso can for samsung model..
thanks..

compare their prices to your budget. compare the output they can bring out from the lcd and your eyes like it or not. the best is to use full hd format to test the lcd. personally think acer h233h is the best bcoz it is using brightscreen and color is damn nice 80k:1 (personally tested). the design is futuristic too. i dun like dell because their design is very dull and old (sorry to dell's fans)

hi every pros here, tomorrow i will get a new LCD for my new pc. I now left 2 choices, Samsung P2450 and P2370. It seems like both of them are having the same specification (Correct me if I'm wrong), the only difference is the inches. But for P2370 is RM760 and P2470 is RM860, it is RM100 difference for 1 inches. Both are having the same resolution as well. So should I go for the 24 inches or should I just get the 23 inches enough? notworthy.gif

^ If i was in your position I would take P2450. I have the same dilemma as u also last month b4 i purchase my new LCD, at the end i still choose AOC 2434pw @ RM690 and save RM 170. Very satisfy with my AOC, no regret so far.

@nightzstar
AOC 2236Vw LCD got HDMI? I thought only 2434pw come with HDMI? Anyway what i heard from the PRO, HDMI = to DVI with audio. I using HDMI now, but did not enable the audio output also. No different from DVI. It is just my LCD dont have DVI port.

Anyone here tried the Samsung F2380? Seems very promising. Its using a PVA not TN panel and would definitely solve my input connection problems as I need dual DVI or DVI + HDMI ^^

http://www.digitalversus.com/article-357-6954-36.html

Price at Garage Sales is RM 960 from one of the sales thread.

Something about the F2380M

QUOTE
If you're worried about the chances of Samsung playing fast and loose with the panels that actually ship with this monitor, there's little risk of that happening here.  As we've seen, the monitor includes a C-PVA panel, a technology that is only made by Samsung.  All that could happen, then, is that Samsung might produce a new version of the panel, in theory improving it by, for example, providing better colour handling with the default settings.

TN panels are never accurate in its color reproductions, as compared to better and more expansive panels like IPS.
My 2333sw+ looks like that too without adjusting the colors.

But you can try this color setting and see:
Red-37 Green-42 Blue-56

Well, as the others have already stated, Dell is currently offering some decent deals on their LCDs. Slightly lower than normal prices.

IIRC before this it was RM760 or thereabouts. Meaning it is currently on a 50 quid discount. You can call Dell to try and push down the price even further.

icic, coz i see the aoc f19 design kinda classy and nice but 18.5" inch wor, not even 19", bonus is the dvi port. Last last i decided for lg for it 20" wide screen and the affordable price. Thought it is d-sub port, after thorough research and it does not make much diff, just slight diff then i decided to go for lg.

Guys, what is the difference between DCR and ACM? When looking for LCD monitor, we always come across these 2 things. I know tht DCR stands for Dynamic Contrast Ratio while ACM is Adaptive Contrast Management. But what is it actually? Which 1 is better / latest technology? i noticed brand like SAMSUNG and Viewsonic use DCR terms while Acer LCD use ACM....

There have been problems with color tinting in Dell's U2410 reported here before. But if you are confident that it wont affect your unit, then the U2410 will naturally be the better pick. The price gap should tell you which is the superior monitor. Not only does it have a absolute plethora of connectivity options, it is also using an IPS panel which allows for better color and picture quality as opposed to the TN panel being used in the ST2410.

ST2410 nice monitor lar... i using it now...
if just count a free hdmi cable as advantage,
i think warranty from dell is more reliable..
if not mistaken warranty is door step to door step.....
which is, for me, a better choice....

Hye, I would like to ask your opinion on display colour...

I am thinking of buying a new lcd monitor.. thinking of getting it at pc fair in penang tomorrow maybe.... so, i would like to ask the opinion of you guys that had owned some lcd.... I would like to ask user satisfaction on AOC Angelo, Dell ST2410 , Acer H233H and also Viewsonic VX(dun remember what model but 24")... any other LCD if better please tell me...

I would like to know your opinion on how good the colour is, response time (blurring, ghosting)... and any possible issue to be encountered...

Actually, I wanted to get less than 24", i wanted only the 1080p resolution.. but as my research yesterday, only 24" got hdmi connection.. i wanted hdmi to be future-proof...

Thanks in forward... i've been reading the whole thread since yesterday, wish someone could sum up everything into a recommendation list of all you guys discussion.. hehe...

It will be able to display on the LCD (thru VGA connection). However the question is does your integrated graphics support the LCD's native screen resolution? Some old integrated graphics chipset cannot set custom resolutions and/or set LCD screen resolutions (only VGA, SVGA and/or XGA resolutions). What is the motherboard brand and model? hmm.gif

Hi guys, I'm new here too and wondering which one is better Dell S2409W or Dell ST2410? Main use is for web surfing, watching HD movies, and occasional gaming. It seems like Dell Malaysia website is not selling S2409W anymore but check at Dell USA they are still selling. Is the Dell ST2410 those monitors where very shiny (like Plasma TV) got a lot of light reflection one? That would be a deal breaker for me.

I also have an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro card, can it handle 24" resolution...especially when playback HD movies/3D games? Right now I have 19" monitor and sometimes HD movies can strain the card a bit...

And should I buy direct from Dell or go to PC Fair/Lowyat buy....any difference/goodies?

I have just gotten the Viewsonic monitor today, and apart from its many misconfigurations out of the box and screwed up gamma (too high), it is a quite decent LCD.

Okay, I think I confused it with P2370 which has no HDMI. I can't seem to find P2370H in Samsung site...most of it point to P2370HD...so confusing rclxub.gif

recently my bro 931BW ( quite old ) can't display, and there's even had those flickering sound when u try to get near and hear the sound.

and today went to rma and bought a 2033SW.
Is the monitor okay ? Because i using 2233SW fine so i think 2033sw shouldn't be problem.
Any guys had problem with 2033SW before ? biggrin.gif

Okay, I think I confused it with P2370 which has no HDMI. I can't seem to find P2370H in Samsung site...most of it point to P2370HD...so confusing  rclxub.gif

If P2370 vs. ST2410 which has better image quality?
*
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-SyncMaster...c/dp/B002TT5SYI

Its kinda new I think. The P2370H is meant to replace the P2370 which only has 1 input which is DVI.

Went to LYP and saw the shops selling the P2370H around the same price as what the P2370 used to be and its stated that it has HDMI input.

OLED TV (marketed) ... there is only 1 so far, the 576p, 11 inch by Sony (super expensive/super small).. perhaps you mean LCD with LED backlight..

More pixels... very fine dot-pitch/small text. (for 15 inch/16inch). Refresh-rate will be 60Hz rate, not really much an option/point for faster on a notebook/laptop

Bright? as in stuck on?... Defective is either dead pixel or stuck pixel (or sub-pixel). Technically all functioning pixels are bright pixels...

Perhaps 5 defective pixels/sub-pixels is a more accurate term/condition in the warranty/claim...

There is some stuck pixel thread here some where, look for it and there will be solution inside. I faced the same problem as you, seems like the pixel display green instead of black. I pressed it slightly with my finger and its gone. LOL!

My quick take of the new Viewsonic VX2433WM 24" monitor.

I have been looking to upgrade to a FullHD 24", and without too much research, I bought the ViewSonic monitor above. When testing the monitor at the store before buying (with nVidia GPU using HDMI connection), I already noticed that the colors are washed out, too bright I say. Apart from that there are no other visible problems, even after playing some 1080p test videos, so I bought it anyway.

At home, I unpacked the monitor and connected it to a Geforce GT220 via HDMI connection, and with the washed out colors I seen during the store testing, I also have overscan problems that I didn't experience during testing. Apparently, this monitor has two modes of HDMI connection; HDMI PC and HDMI AV (default). Changing the connection type to HDMI PC solves the overscan problem.

Then I moved to solve the washed out color problems, and this is where I spent much of my time in trial-and-error mode. First, I tried to adjust the brightness and contrast settings but to no avail. I also tried to adjust the RGB colors and the result is the same. Stumped, I left the monitor alone as I get some afternoon nap.

After I wake up, I checked my RSS feed and found out that Psyren 95 has come out. I downloaded it and then fired up FastStone Image Viewer to read it. It was here I found out what caused the washed out color problem, and that is, unlike the majority of the computer monitors out there, the new LCD is currently calibrated with TV levels (16-235) instead of the usual PC levels (0-255). To confirm my findings, I played some videos that has some true blacks in it and they come out grey.

As I have no idea how to change the levels, I popped in the included CD and started to read the manual (no printed manual for you here). In one of the pages, the manual says that you can change the 'Display Mode' between RGB and YUV, and the manual says YUV is the HD mode. I changed the setting to YUV, but there are to visible improvements seen in the LCD levels.

I then remembers that nVidia drivers defaulted at passing RGB color format to the monitor if the HDMI connection is used, so I opened the nVidia Control Panel and changed the digital color format from RGB to YCbCr 444 and voila, I now have correct black/white levels! Blacks are not grey anymore and white are not washed out.

The only thing left to do is to fix the gamma curve which is too high, causing the colors to be less vivid compared to my older Samsung 226bw. That was taken care of with Windows 7 calibration utility, but I need to borrow a hardware calibration soon to generate a profile.

After all that, this monitor is quite good actually, after all the headaches fixing the out-of-the-box settings and normalized the gamma curve. I think the monitor started to overscan because it detected that I am passing audio via the HDMI cable. I think the calibration level problem would not be there either if I use DVI connection.

Just got a P2370H today as a replacement to my P2350. Samsung really seems to be cutting corners on the quality of the accessories.. cables etc. Doesn't seem as good as before but that's also due to the lower prices.

The one I got has HDMI input which solves my problem of needing dual inputs as I use it for my PC and PS3.

Certain gripes about the monitor. It comes with an external power brick which equates to more cable mess but I guess its a compromise for the slim design of the monitor. The touch sensitive buttons also don't have guide marks like the P2350 so sometimes you might be pressing the wrong area for the buttons to light up ^^;

Other than than, the image quality is slightly superior compared to the P2350.

Oh, I noticed some obvious backlight bleeding at the bottom right corner which has a bluish tint to it.

Anyone else having this monitor? I hope only mine has this issue so I can exchange it.

Compared to my older Samsung 932B+. Its actually less obvious when you are looking at it instead of the picture.

Q: Is this monitor suitable to use with ps3/xbox and is there any way to connect a separate headphone or speakers to the monitor?
A: This monitor can be connected to a PS3 through HDMI. However, you may not connect a separate set of speakers of headphone to this product since it does not have an audio out port.

To enable the sound to transmit through your stereo, etc, simply by using the composite cable(the one that came with the ps3 or xbox)

At least it will not overscan if the HDMI cable doesn't pass audio. I think the color will not be washed out if using DVI, but if it did, just change 'Display Mode' from RGB to YUV then.

edit: Just tested with DVI cable and yeah, no overscan problems and no bright colors. Reverting the settings to default and everything is just fine. So if you connect to the monitor with DVI cable there should be no problems.

Finally got my 80,000:1 contrast Acer H233H, by far better than any lcd of this category. Reason being not only the contrast it comes with hdmi, (cables included) it also comes with what i call the glossy / glass effect surface, only Acer and HP has this i think. if you compare side by side this effect tend to create a more lively display compared to the flat and slightly greenish surface. got it pluged in to my Acer one aspire netbook. worked with a big smile on my face.

you can get it at Viewnet. i looked all over lowyat couldnt find, so i asked my regular viewnet guy. they are still selling off the 40,000:1 units at RM629 but if you ask they might have the 80,000:1 unit which is the same price!!! Hope this helps.... hoping for a PS3 slim to pair with this beauty soon....
