QUOTE(LokiD.d.G @ Dec 11 2009, 03:11 AM) No LCD TV can come close to a good quality monitor in terms of image sharpness. The reason you don't notice this s because you don't generally sit a couple of feet away from a LCD TV Also, your argument on IPS panels is flawed slightly. The E-IPS or Enhanced-IPS is actually a better quality panel than its predecessor. So, I don't see how that can be considered as cutting cost. I have to agree with you on the LCD TV/Plasma. It is almost impossible to use it as a monitor, even it is a FULL HD. I try connecting my DELL Studio Hybrid to my 50" FULL HD Plasma, the font is so small and almost impossible to read from a distance. But if I sit near, my head would be turning up, down, left, right because the screen is too big. So... always stick with a PC LCD for monitor usage. I have to correct you on the e-IPS. Actually e-IPS is at the bottom of the IPS panel chain. It is the least expensive IPS panel to produce, that is why you can see them selling at below 1k. The color reproduction and viewing angle is no where near the older siblings like the S-IPS/H-IPS - but those panel came with a hefty price. Nevertheless, e-IPS is still so much better than TNs.

QUOTE(LokiD.d.G @ Dec 11 2009, 05:12 PM) I may be wrong, but isn't there also your good ol' IPS panel. As in IPS without any prefixes. If so, it stands to reason that an E-IPS panel would be better than the stock IPS and thus wouldn't constitute as cost cutting. Also bear in mind that monitors using the standard IPS panels are awfully cheap now compared to a couple of years ago. That is a plus in my book. There isn't any IPS panel without the prefixes. IPS is just a main name for many of it's model. Just like Mercedes to cars, there are E class, S class etc. For instance, a 20" S-IPS panel costs more than 2k about 4 yrs ago. The price reduced to around 1.3k a year or two later and then got replaced by S-PVA panel. It is never cheaper than 1k. It is either discontinued or replaced by other panel. I have never seen any IPS panel cheaper than 1k until the e-IPS launch. That is good thing if you ask me because not many are willing to fork out that much on a premium panel - just like the Apple Cinema Display or a few flagship NEC models... all runs on either S-IPS or H-IPS and costs a bomb, even now.

QUOTE As for why I recommend LCD TV IPS panel, these bastards uses the very latest IPS Alpha panel which is the latest and most advance IPS tech to date. I cant even see the purple glow like I used to when I was using 2007WFP. Not to mention, the response time has gotten really low. The most important factor is the pricetag. You can get a bigger panel for less. I really cant see any use of having Dell 30" IPS panel which sport 2560x1600. I have engineers working for my company - mainly the designer, they need a big resolution monitor to work in order to see all the required details in one screen. That is when 30" LCD monitors sporting 2560x1600 comes in handy. Apparently 30" is still small for them, they need to hook up dual 30" and put it side by side. I'm using 30" ACD at home, a few forumers like ianho here are also using it, just for web surfing. There's no such thing as too big for us. Just a matter of preference. QUOTE(LokiD.d.G @ Dec 12 2009, 12:25 PM) Interesting. Because according to Dell's technical service department, the U2410 I am currently using is based on a normal IPS panel. Misinformation on their behalf perhaps? Wouldn't be the first time. Maybe they're just trying to keep things simple, introducing too much jargons will just confuse the newbies. U2410 is running on H-IPS. LG.Philips LM240WU4-SLB1 to be exact. It is a good value for money, no doubt about it. I have a NEC 25.5" 2690WUXI running on H-IPS A-TW panel which costs me almost 4k - that is expensive compared to the DELL.

QUOTE(LokiD.d.G @ Dec 18 2009, 04:15 AM) True. But the current Dell U2410 I'm using has a response time to match the fastest TN panels despite being rated for 6ms. I have yet to experience ghosting with this monitor. You can also Google some reviews which will concur with my statement. Considering that, the monitor is really good value for money. Exactly, response time if not an issue with IPS, even with my old 4 yrs old S-IPS 2007WFP I do not experience any sort of ghosting with this monitor.

I have to admit that Dell 23" IPS panel at RM880 is a damn good buy.
