Advise for all possible Dell U2410 buyer, try to avoid this monitor at all cost!!!

The monitor come with a manufacturer defect of Pink/Green Tint issue, and the solution provided by Dell was "Within Spec" and "Show me a 24" EIZO for $529 and lets compare." By Dell.

You can look into the matter here:
http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19302919.aspx
and here:
http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/1929...spx?PageIndex=6

Im one of the victim, and im currently promoting their crime.

Just a remind from previous thread to avoid additional unhappy customer increases~ cool2.gif

Quick google suggests it's a hardware issue affecting some monitors using LG IPS screens.

Tried setting a white screen, raised contrast to max, doesn't seem like anything to me. Any other way to test the tint issue?
*
Not all monitor have that tinting problem. If yours is free from that, than congrat. No need to go find that problem yourself~ biggrin.gif The tinting issue is obvious in white background, and damn obvious in a light grey background. Contrast level 50 edi can see the different~ smile.gif ofcos, more high more significant. you can use "paint" to do the test. just chose the light grey color beside white.

I have 3 unit now.  biggrin.gif

Office use, so far, not encounter any problem, touchwood. Just the second unit got dead pixel, which had been exchanged 1 for 1.

How to test the tinted issue then?

As quote~ wish you luck~ biggrin.gif

Hi there,

Ohh.. no... So funny here. Previous week, you and others recommended this monitor and I look at specs and found that it's quite good. Read a few posts and review in cnet and etc. So I bought a unit also last week and arrive last week. Was using it over the weekend. Excellent monitor.

Now pulak, you say there are issues here. Wt, ha ha...

I read some post that not all are affect with this. Can you post some screen shots of your issues that you face on this? Now in office, not yet look at the issues, hopefully none finger cross.

Additonally, you mentioned in your other posts that you have change quite a couple of times the monitor previously. Hopefully, I am not getting your first monitor because it came quite fast. Initially, there was a person from India who contact me saying that the monitor is in India under production (Tuesday) and the goods arrived in Malaysia on Thurs!! Either efficient production and super post laju. Ha.. ha...

Did you sent back to Dell due to these issue on Pink/Green Tint? Thanks.
Swee

Hi there,

How do know the unit got some dead pixels? How do you test it? Looking at each pixel individually?  ohmy.gif lol

Thanks

Nah~~i never recommend ppl in buying U2410. You can check the previous thread version 7~ not me~ biggrin.gif i only said what was the thing convince me. I only do the math in pricing, but that time i tot premium panel should be free from problem. But i guess im wrong. Its Dell!! sweat.gif
Yeah, on the term or pricing and the "introduction" of dell web site, it really attractive, but than who know the real unit is come with so many problem.. its manufacturer defect which you could only found out when you had 1. and based on the performance of my LCD, i can say that the web site info is all fake, and its cheating..i know thats rude, but its true shakehead.gif

nope..screen shot is unable to let u see the problem as its physically green and pink. Only a camera and photoshop with saturation boost do the work, but i dont have photoshop and a good camera. You can see the photo by others who have this problem in dell forum.

That one depend on luck actually, not every unit have that problem. but i dont have your kind of luck. tongue.gif yes, i had send it back, but the new 1 is come with more serious problem.
Pink tint on upper right, green tint of lower left, and serious backlight bleeding (i only notice this when my friend came over yesterday). he din notice the tint until i told him, but the first thing he notice is backlight bleeding which i dont know what is that until yesterday.

Light grey? Hmm... I ran all my tests in pure white and didn't find a thing. Will check this up later.

yup~light grey color is most obvious for tint issue. And remember, dont set your contrast too low. Im at level 50~ smile.gif

Asia's U2410 is likely to be produced only in China .... the call centre maybe in India (not the production facility).  Info available on the plastic tab behind the USB ports/card reader.

Tint issue.. Green on left screen.... Pink on the right side (or other variations of screen uniformity)... Mine U2410 has it to, but very slightly on grey background, un-noticeable on white background. Tint issue varies from panel to panel. You can fault LG's production and Dell not getting the cream of the crop (Apple, NEC, Eizo and HP gets first dibs.)

Your monitor should be new, it is the request for replacements that may get refurb. units.

There is also the dithering issue on Abode RGB and  sRGB modes. This will be address with new firmware. Very bad on Dell's part.. 2  and 1/2 years ago with the 2407wfp banding (firmware issue), still with firmware issue with the latest Ultra I guess it maybe wise to always wait for rev A01 on Dell's product...
*
actually for warranty..there is possible for you to get a new unit~ smile.gif i got a new unit for my 3rd replacement without showing my anger. smile.gif
yes, dithering issue is also 1 of the problem of U2410. smile.gif you all can test it here: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php
u will see the different between srgb/adobe rgb and other mode~

OK I checked out my screens. Tried several shades of grey, all appeared grey on max brightness and contrast.

Then I went to Dell's community forum and yawn.gif the Reply/delicious/digg bar appears a very light pink.

Using that colour, I created an image, filled that colour and displayed fullscreen. No green. Just a light pink same shade across the entire screen. Also, it only seems to affect it at 80++ contrast level. I'm using much lower than that, so I guess I won't bother risking getting a crap refurbished unit for something I won't notice 99.9999% of the time (unlike the dithering issue)
*
lol... thats the tinting problem~ biggrin.gif but as long as you cant notice it, den just keep it...warranty it half year be4 ur warranty period goes off. biggrin.gif

Hi UltraConductor,

Ok, noted on your comments above. Would like to check with you also whether you have connected the HDMI cables to video/PS3? For the sound output, did you use a 3.5 mm line to connect to the monitor? BeastX is also checking on this. Thanks in advance.

erm..sorry that i didnt do that test as my GC dont have hdmi.. tongue.gif cos i using an old 8500gt 512mb gc only as im not a gamer~ tongue.gif
not sure how to use the audio port, but i assume its hdmi thing~ blush.gif

heres a quote:
"There's even a 3.5mm audio out jack here, for pushing out audio you've got feeding in through HDMI, either to a speaker system or to Dell's optional soundbar which can be mounted under and powered by the monitor."

Flickering during power save modes is expected. The monitor is working as designed."

Its not a dead or stucked pixel. I said that because i already tried to scroll up the video to move the "suspected dead or stucked pixel". But it seems the blue dots are following the video when i scroll it up or down. Anyone know what it is?. I already tested that DPT software up there and all is fine. My monitor doesnt have dead or stucked pixel.

video quality lo~~ u try get a blueray version of movie which about 6-8gb..and see if the problem still persist. biggrin.gif

To all Dell U2410 users, is the green/pink tint issue really annoying when viewing webpages?

if its serious, yes, it affect ur view as you will see pink color at white or grey background for center part of ur monitor. such as document and web page. my 2nd and 3rd unit quite obvious. now 4th unit, still got, but less noticeable. smile.gif backlight bleeding, also 1 of the problem.

- dithering in sRGB, aRGB (will be fixed in coming firmware, seem not yet release to public but its in my monitor now~ biggrin.gif )
- pink/green tinting problem
- backlight bleeding (happen in 3 out of 4 unit~) 1st unit i didnt test this part as i dont know anything about this~
- card reader problem - only happen in my 4th unit(current)... not able to read both my SD and SDHC card~ said it not formatted and fail to format it.

It is down to individual budget, there is no right and wrong.
Cheapest IPS should be e-ips Dell 2209WA, Rm750
Edited : it is not a true IPS, but at least get rid of viewing angle issue and better colour.
I don't think shops will display IPS lcd or keep stock on IPS panel mainly due to cost wise. It is hard to sell an IPS compared to TN because price differentiate simply too big.
24" IPS cost above RM1500, while 24" TN cost RM700-800, it is very hard for shops to sell.

midvalley got a dell showroom...maybe you could check up see is there any display unit there..~ biggrin.gif

this 1 cant confirm as we consumer will nvr know had dell flash the new firmware in all their new unit. i suggest u dont take the risk now and wait until there is some official new revision come out~ provided u able to wait.
from dell forum, some people in other country bought the unit at December, but still with dithering problem although dell support stated every new unit after November is free from dithering.
