They don't block P2P, Bit Torrent. And its quite fast to game servers. Personal Experience here

use maxis 3G rm120 for few months already, they dont block PSP, torrent or anything.. playing gunbound with no problem at all.. but yet, my http/ftp speed can only go up too 55kbps only

The package that he is using is the 3G and also unlimited usage.

What I meant was, was he on 3G only when he achieved the speeds he mentioned, or was he on HSDPA? As far as I understand, when you sign up for Maxis 3G unlimited package, you are automatically HSDPA "enabled" if your data card or phone supports it. elfreakz may be using a 3G only card and not an HSDPA one, hence his "lower" speed.

And I further asked about whether there is a minimum contract period when you sign up for Maxis 3G

im using handphone as modem .. and the handphone is 3G only, i guess handphone nokia n70 only up to 55kbps eh....

Like I suspected, he is using a 3G enabled handphone only. Maxis HSDPA should give you much higher speeds than he is experiencing, based on the feedback I've read.

Yes. HSDPA gives much higher speed. I'm using celcom 3g with HSDPA card and the download speed so far is excellent.

Are you on the PowerTools plan? As far as I know, individuals cannot sign up for HSDPA, only SME/corporate accounts.

I do agree on this. Digi's EDGE service should actually consider lowering their price as it is certainly not competitive with 3G service's pricing at the moment.

Maxis WBB is fast...

But its inconsistent and not stable..

It gets disconnected itself... and have to reconnect itself..

So its pretty annoying...

Since speed for me is not the concern.. its frustrating to get stuck when you're doing your work on and off..

what IP do maxis 3G users get?

Hi, I am ditching maxis broadband wireless and opting for powertools. What kind of download speeds are you getting on the 3G and 3GX if u dont mind my asking?

So far the Maxis 3G users I see were using 58.71.x.x IP.

If I am not mistaken, the nature of 3G is such that you will not be assigned an external or public IP number. I am always on 10.x.x.x on Celcom3G, which is an IP range reserved for internal use only (IIRC), so I am always behind a router/firewall and do not have a ping-able public IP. This makes port forwarding very difficult, if not next to impossible.

Is the 58.x.x.x range used by Maxis also reserved for internal use only?

wonder when using data card, u slot yr sim card into it. then how abt yr phone? how u receive call during tht time? or maxis can give u 2 sim cards?

If I remember correctly, for the data card Maxis will give you a sim card which is for data only. Meaning you can't use it for calls or sms.

SMS is enabled on my Celcom3G. I don't know about Maxis. SMS charges are extra. I've tested sending from my DiGi handphone to the Celcom3G data SIM, and it works. I haven't sent out any yet though, no reason to.

If you want itemised billing for sent SMS, it costs an additional RM3 on top of your unlimited package price of RM120. Add 5% service tax on top of that, and it can come to quite a hefty bill

just a quick question, maxis 3G thru hp as modem.. the ip is 58.xx.xx.xx right.. cos i got that too.. but my torrent will be like having this blind port, can it be open? cos i wont get full out of torrent aight....

The connection at my place in Puchong is not so stable on UMTS. Sometimes it will break and i need to reconnect again....haih

if your area is covered by hsdpa, then you'll get truely high speed

im new to this mobile internet connection (EDGE/3g and what-so-ever). i wish to connect my notebook to the internet on the go.

so, from my understanding, is this Maxis 3G data card can connect my notebook to the internet. but is it require me a 3G phone? or just straight connect?

let say i buy this 3G data card not from maxis (from garage forum or else) then how do i subscribe to this service? go to maxis and said i want this service and tell them i already have my own data card?

this datacard is connected to your notebook via PCMCIA slot
it doesn't need a phone or anything because it's a datacard (PCMCIA card)!

just go to maxis, and register for a sim card, specially and solely used for 3g

In my housing area here, my brother owns a 3g phone and he says that the signal of 3g is not good here (he says sometime he canot do video call)

1) What is your speedtest results and your location during day/night?
2) Are you able to torrent at any time? what's you Max/Min speed during day/night?
3) What about your latency results? Gaming performance? Are able to connect to "all" the game server?
4) What is your recommended package?

Internet2go user , have you all experience low quality images (like compressed) when you surf?

1). Depends on the location. Mine sometime got 384kbps (3G). sometime got 1-2Mbps (HSDPA).
2). Yes. Min 0KBps (if not torrent hehehe). Max 40KBps (3G). sometime 100KBps (HSDPA)
3). Latency is worth. For gamers, im not recommend for Maxis Internet2Go.
4). If you are mobile user, then Internet2go is the best. else go for streamyx + VPN.

tried with celcom here...very frustrating...using daily package..speed very unstable, cant go over 100kbps..

cannot surf, dail up is better even though connected through 3g...

all connect using datacard n phone..in my area, celcom (3g) maxis (hsdpa)

with maxis, surfing was excellent...way better than celcom in my area..

testing this maxis package out since we can terminate it any time, eventhough its prorated billing..

Or maybe I should re-phrase my question for clarity:

Can I subscribe to the Internet2Go package on its own without having to pay for voice service as well? That is, pay RM99 + 5% service tax monthly for this service, no other hidden or other charges?

Internet2Go (I2G) is actually for those with Maxis 3G simcard, therefore you need to be an existing mobile user or u subscribed to a new line with I2G... that is as far as i know unless they've new package launching... i've asked this thru the counter at KLCC about 2 weeks ago.
Hope that clears your doubt.

Just go straight to the maxis (better go to the KLCC) . If the package not change then you can have it. maxis always change their package hehehe ...

recently i think my maxis 3G via n70 become slower. ike before i said, direct ftp download can around 50 - 55kb/s .. now if it fast, it become unstable... 50-55 few minutes, then drop drop drop.. then up up up.

hmm and i have problem getting into Windows Live Messenger, hard to login, always reconnection. So i end up using ebuddy with no problem at all. why eh?

Here's the strange thing folks.

On a whim and fancy to try out Maxis' offering, I signed up for their Internet2Go package a couple of days ago. Got it activated in less than an hour. It's a data only package, no voice, since I am already a DiGi customer.

The funny thing is, my datacard shows HSDPA signal, signal strength excellent at -61dBm as reported by my Sierra 3G Watcher software. I get IPs in the 58.71.x.x subnet, and am connected to the unet APN.

But my speed has not gone beyond UMTS. I've tested with my torrentflux FTP server, also with a rapidshare premium account with 10 simultaneous download connections for a single file. It has not gone past 49KB/s consistently. I can see it spiking for a second to 100KB/s and above, but it comes back down almost immediately.

I've tested with two separate datacards, and two separate notebooks.

Some people have claimed that Maxis customer service told them that Internet2Go is limited to UMTS, ie. 384kbps. But I've seen users in this forum reporting more than 2mbps on their speed tests. Is HSDPA only available to Maxis voice customers who sign up for Internet2Go?

What gives? Am I capped wrongly in the system? Anyone has a number for me to call to report this apart from having to dial a KL number from my DiGi phone? A bit expensive talking to them from Penang

Added on November 7, 2007, 9:43 amWell it appears that even though my connection is HSDPA in my connection manager, the base station wasn't able to support speeds exceeding UMTS. I've tested in KL, highest sustained download speed was 350KB/s from rapidshare.

i would like to subscribe Maxis 3G HSDPA, but my T60 have both express card slot and PCMCIA slot, my question is which slot better for using 3G, and is there any different in performace and price for express card slot and PCMCIA slot datacard?

Hey guys, my dad just subscribed to maxis hsdpa line. It is said to have 3.6mbits but ive tested it directly to the comp its only 220kbps down, 34kbps up and an incredible lat up to 300ms
then I tried downloading with my Megaupload premium, the speed only reached 50kbps

Then i plugged it into my router(normal netgear router) and speedtest on my other comp, it was even worse!! only 100+ kbps down and 20kbps up with a lat of 500!!!
again, tried downloading with my MU premium, it gave me 20kbps

My dad got it cheap, he says want to test it out but seems like it isnt really working well... You know what i think? i think tmnut is sabotaging them so that every customer feels frustrated then have no choice but to go back to tmnut -____-

I'm using Z610 as modem, maxis 3G is full bar in my phone. but the signal keep changing to GPRS (without 3G).

What should I do to retain 3G signal?
I had select 3G in phone setting but keep turn to GPRS.

If via FTP/HTTP, my download can only up to 50kb/s, if torrent for sure slow lah - that is the reason why i have to subscribe for torrentflux account

maxis 3g seems pretty crappy recently
i cant even logon to MSN Live on my pda at all
3g video call dropping often

true.. the year 2008, is like a bad luck for people who use maxis 3g internet. since last month, i have hard time surfing. Ebay website is dead ping. MSN website very slow. MSN messenger very hard to connect. and now YM messenger frequent disconnected. pity

exactly planning to cancel them this end month if the line still so slow
better use back Digi Edge at least i got no prob with connecting to msn

im feeling weird - for ym... using ym messenger i cannot connect.

but if i use other software like pingin, trillian, meebo - it connect.

and even the web base meebo can connect with ym.

Soon, you'll even be more frustrated when TMnet launches services above 10m while you're still tied to the miserable 18months torture chain.

Maxis won't be able to give you that because they don't have extensive MANs and nationwide fiber links like TM Wholesale/Fiberail and Digi/Time.

if u r tied with the contract , can u just upgrade the package instead? i know u cant downgrade it for sure

Don't get me wrong, the Internet2Go by Maxis is contract free if you pay upfront deposit for a new dedicated SIM with a new number or just add it as a VAS to your existing postpaid account with your own modem.

Never fall for cheap offers like their new 3G LG KU380 phone promotion which only cost RM199 unless you are prepared to be tied for the next 24 months on V150.
