Bumping this old Maxis 3G thread.

My reply to wdarke Q although abit old..:

1) Yes they do provide multiple SIMs but each additional SIM charge at RM15!! Suprisingly, both SIM can surf internest separately!! ..i.e if u are using one wth Modem & another on phone, u can log-in using Modem & also h/phone at once

2) Just get those data card or modem in Garage sales..cheaper

3) Yes ubder this 3G which is diff from broadband No limit!! u can download even faster than streamyx if u are at a 3.5G coverage area...Lotsa Maxis 3G customers hv been experiencing downloading speed of 250-280KB/s or ~2200-2500kbps! (Only at 3.5G coverage area & wth strong signal!)

Well, although the speed & stability is much better than Maxis broadband but the coverage areas still can't match those by Celcom. sad.gif Certain remote areas, esp areas out of the city limit for eg when I went bck Melaka, I can received 3.5G at Melaka town ctr/Sentral. however out of the town such as Cheng area, I can't received any 3G signal just edge/GPRS.. sad.gif ..Similarly in Lumut.. sad.gif

The thing I hate about celcom (Mine Celcom is the Streamyx combo hop-on package RM108)...Sometime full bars also super slow! -Well probably all the same bcos Celcom package also broadband & not tagged to the Mobile 3G package hmm.gif

Before getting Maxis 3G Unlimited Package, i did try and survery for Celcom Mobile 3G package but their official website is very annoying. The navigation menu is very confusing for me rclxub.gif  Some more, their site all using flash mad.gif

Btw, sometimes 3G Unlimited can get a bit wacky also...after 8-10 hours of dl'ing @ 45 kB/s suddenly drop to 15 kB/s...I goyang2 the modem then the speed back up to 45 kB/s blink.gif

A few mins ago, ngam2 when I on my monitor, the speed suddenly drop from 45 kB/s to 15 kB/s (double checked with OnlineEye Pro). I disconnect & reconnect and off & on a few times, then get back full speed  sweat.gif

Maybe my area Maxis signal not strong enough. Sometimes my phone can get full bar signal, then a few mins later no signal at all  doh.gif

B4 u all jump into the bandwagon, test 1st on your location reception or else u will be crying not able to get the speed u wanted. Maxis 3.5 G coverage is not so extensive but those in 3.5G area really happy wth the speed they are getting.

@lucky8, on your question, on E160G & E156G, both are the same according diff in colour & E156G is newer version..well dun ask me why, that the comment from the seller (Andrew too)

Maxis website. However it's not up to date.. & lotsa areas having latest coverage even 3.5G is not updated.

After 2mths of blind spot around my area without getting any 3.5G, suddenly, the frequency wind blow towards my way...& now getting bck my lost 3.5G signal since Y'day biggrin.gif

Current Max speed @ ip 121.123 :
user posted image

However actual speed recorded via my Huawei mobile partner software is only 290KB or ~2300kbps only. The upload speed still very slow compare to Streamyx. (Anyway the result from speedtest sometime hard to believe blush.gif )
I will replaced this for the nxt few hours, once getting the max again biggrin.gif

On Torrent, Too bad i feel torrenting has been throttled because DL speed only avg 20-30KB & the speedtest result suddenly dropped tremendously to turtle speed of <200kbps & ping dropped to 700ms....horrible...I'm suspecting Maxis does anti-torrenting cry.gif

That speed if u are using Maxis broadband consider super duper good oledi...Normally getting this speed are for those subscribing to Maxis internet on the go (3/3.5G service) rather than broadband.

My avg speed also ~1500kbps..only occasionally it's shoot up so high i.e exceed 3000kbps and sometime >10,000kbps..hehe...I only post the max only..hide all below 5,000kbps punya...

Maxis 3G anjd any other wireless broadband depend on area of coverage & density as everyone knows. So the high speed probably due the the availability of the nearest 3.5G tower, extremely good signals & also the number of users at that location. So one fellow getting high speed doesn't mean another will get the same and in this instances, those getting very low speed & getting frequent disconnection to GPRS speed and etc, will definitely suffered such as few forumers here such as crackysys & elfreakz

Me too although getting extremely high speed at current location, but once bck home, my speed reduced to a miserable avg 15KB/s or only 120kbps only worst than DIGI Edge!..

So to say Maxis 3G really good also depend on the above factors, as well as othyer WIRELESS broadband providers too... icon_rolleyes.gif

Craky..better start complain now.. I was facing the same problem in Dec, Jan & Feb but now everything going smoothly...that also after numerous calls...& private visit by their technician to verify my complain..

I'm suspecting they hv limited 3.5G towers, and once ppl complains, the technician moved the aerial to satisfy those guys , once the other side ppl complains, they start moving the aerial again.....and there goes your precious smooth download....
