Hmm...maybe your area is congested already...too many people using it... Or, there could be a problem with your modem. Overheating & buggy firmware can also cause unstable connections...have you tried using a different modem?

Btw, for Maxis users TeliaSonera is the best (maxisbb & maxis3G)

hi guys~

I just started using Maxis Unet... currently go online using my phone connect laptop using USB cable. I'm concerned over my phone battery in long run.

can any1 advise me, which modem to get? Is huawei the only brand? and which model? I'm running on Mac, so modem has to be OS X compatible.

3G broadband you mean? Yes, it has, the only wireless broadband provider in Malaysia that uses HSPA whereas others are using HSDPA only.
I've tried all wireless broadband services in Malaysia and I cannot deny the fact, DiGi has the best wireless broadband. So far, none of the users is not satisfied with the service.

When i signed up my Maxis 3G, there is a clause abt the FUP @ 3GB BUT juz tat it is not implemented on this package yet, maybe......

The other package, Maxis Wireless Broadband FUP is 2GB and 5GB and tat hav been implemented.

I actually press them further and i got this answer.

There is no Broadband Package in Malaysia tat gives UNLIMITED access as MCMC specified. Only the carrier/telco wan to implement it or not.

And now u knoe why Maxis dun name this package wif the word BROADBAND

I am still using Umobile ( FUP 5GB, not implemented yet )

So far, I've only used one HSDPA modem...the old and bulky white ZTE MF600 modem. It's old but it still works

Their highest package has 20GB limit...I need at least 6-7 times of that every month Looks like I'll be with Maxis3G for a long long time....unless other telcos roll out new packages in the fourth quarter....

Today my first bills generated and i was fakaped again by Maxis and already launch another complaint with MCMC . They max out and still charge for pay per use on the second sim card.

I was charge with the second sim card max out with total 250 for the second sim card. But they did waive the datacharge RM 250 for the first sim card.

wanna ask a question, if i use the hp as modem, will the phone battery finish fast?
coz normally online will take few hours, the battery consumption high?

did your package came wif voice call for Primary and Secondary sim?

did u call Maxis abt this? and if u did , wat maxis reply?

frankly, i also subscribed to data only rm99/mth package and also "one number multi sim" wif a secondary sim card
i also afraid tat i will get a bill similiar to you

So, it is not advisable to use phone as modem.
Before I bought my USB modem, I was using a phone to make it as modem to online 24/7, so I just plugged in the charger together.
Anyway, to get a modem nowadays is very cheap and more convenient.
Though the speed doesn't vary much.

i dont know how they count it or waive any of those waiver... but what matter at the end is the total charge is rm15...haha...only my main sim they charge rm99... i'm using this sim quite heavily this past few days....usually 1 nite i megauploading & rapidsharing around about 2 to 4 GB....haha...

i think ur speed is acceptable...dont la expect 3.6MBPs of speed.....

That's the speed you would expect in a 3G service. Essentially 3G = 48 kBps. With all ISP, the speed advertise is based on *best effort*...so you'd expect at least 70% of the advertised speed which is at least 33.6 kBps.

In conclusion, there is *nothing* wrong with the speed that you're getting...we ALL should get that speed. Some of us are lucky that somehow we can exceed the 3G speed limit and get 3.5G instead. It may be related to tower signal strength & the number of people using Maxis in certain areas.

...I hope you can now *stop* bashing Maxis3G because Maxis *IS* providing the speed that they are suppose to for a 3G service
