Added on February 20, 2009, 2:36 pmBtw, I just subscribed to Maxis 3G Unlimted (Data Plan Only) 2 days ago and so far it has been great smile.gif In my area, Maxis 3g Unlimited is more stable and faster than WBB biggrin.gif

I always a minimum speed of 384kbps. The fastest speed I got was about 700+kbps but it only laster for about 7 hours...then it went back to 384kbps.

Long Live Maxis 3G Unlimited!

Well, although the speed & stability is much better than Maxis broadband but the coverage areas still can't match those by Celcom.  sad.gif  Certain remote areas, esp areas out of the city limit for eg when I went bck Melaka, I can received 3.5G at Melaka town ctr/Sentral. however out of the town such as Cheng area, I can't received any 3G signal just edge/GPRS.. sad.gif ..Similarly in Lumut.. sad.gif

The thing I hate about celcom (Mine Celcom is the Streamyx combo hop-on package RM108)...Sometime full bars also super slow!  -Well probably all the same bcos Celcom package also broadband & not tagged to the Mobile 3G package  hmm.gif
*
Before getting Maxis 3G Unlimited Package, i did try and survery for Celcom Mobile 3G package but their official website is very annoying. The navigation menu is very confusing for me rclxub.gif Some more, their site all using flash mad.gif

Btw, sometimes 3G Unlimited can get a bit wacky also...after 8-10 hours of dl'ing @ 45 kB/s suddenly drop to 15 kB/s...I goyang2 the modem then the speed back up to 45 kB/s blink.gif

A few mins ago, ngam2 when I on my monitor, the speed suddenly drop from 45 kB/s to 15 kB/s (double checked with OnlineEye Pro). I disconnect & reconnect and off & on a few times, then get back full speed sweat.gif

Maybe my area Maxis signal not strong enough. Sometimes my phone can get full bar signal, then a few mins later no signal at all doh.gif

Geee...your speed probably at 3G only coverage area ho?..Noramlly at 3.5G area, I can & lotsa ppl here actually getting >200KB...& yeah at nite speed normallt reduced too...for eg at 3G area from 45KB to ~15-20KB.. sad.gif
*
A few days ago, I got 3.5G signal and the speed was like 130-150 kB/s drool.gif ...only lasted for about 6 hours, then went back to 3G speeds yawn.gif It was probably a 'stray signal'...... wink.gif

Whats the difference compare to Maxis WBB? How to subscribe?
*
The biggest difference so far, is that Maxis3G has no data usage limits and fair usage policy biggrin.gif To subscribe, just go to any Maxis Centre and ask for "Maxis Mobile 3G Unlimited Data Plan". Advance payment will be RM 100. Then RM 99 Monthly

Now i am existing Maxis Wireless BB user.. the line here damn bad and always DC.. is it plan power mobile(3G) will perform better ? and is it tied to contract also  ?
*
MaxisBB is unstable in certain areas. The next best (a little more expensive) choice is 3G Unlimited. 3G Unlimited has no 'tied' contract or any hidden termination fee rclxms.gif

If you're currently on MaxisBB Starter package and are not getting a good/stable connection, don't bother to upgrade yawn.gif

We must be the Maxis posted-paid user before we can subscribe 3G unlimited plan right ?

Officially, yes. But unofficially, it IS possible to subscribe to the 3G Unlimited Plan without being a postpaid user biggrin.gif If you want to subscribe 3G Unlimited without the voice plan, just go to any Maxis Centre and say you want to subscribe to "Maxis 3G Unlimited Data Plan without Voice".

The secret is out brows.gif

I forgot to mention another thing. There is one major downside if you chose to get Maxis 3G Unlimited...Maxis will not provide you with a modem. So you'll have to fork out about RM 300 for a 3G/3.5G modem.

i'd just started to use maxis 3g unlimited with my z610. the connection seems not stable.

disconnected after 10-20 mins. download from rapidshare very slow. to download big file is impossible without premium account with these problems.

btw i'm just at 3rd floor. should be no problem rite?
*
z610 only supports 3G...which means the download speed won't go any further than 384kbps or 48kBps. If you use a modem that can support 3.5G (HSDPA), you can get up to 2.0Mbps.

3rd floor should be no problem, just make sure you put your phone near a window to get a stable connection.

My speed for the past 3 hours:

I just subscribed the 3G unlimited, check with them the additional SIM Card is @ RM15/mth, which make me refuse to get another one, will try out the speed first in my area using my 3G HP, then will get a Huawei E160G soon..so can try out the speed immediately..
But the Maxis counter says the additional card is for voice only? not data? i confused.
*
Lol...you must've spoken to a newbie shakehead.gif I've spoken to Maxis CS and you CAN get additional card for data only. If you don't want to pay the extra RM 15/month, make a new account. If Maxis CS asks why...just say it's for your office and you don't want to mix it with your personal bills brows.gif

Maxis is a scam!!! I could not get more than 100kbps most of the time before I finally returned the modem and got the service discontinued. When I was at the Maxis center, to my surprise the return queue was soo long with disgruntled and dissatisfied customers... I was number 10 in the queue and had to wait almost 2 hours to be served!!
*
What modem you use? If you're modem supports HSDPA then you should have no problems getting a good speed unless your area don't have 3G. Btw, you're using Maxis Mobile Internet right?

QUOTE(lucky8 @ Mar 9 2009, 12:02 PM)
newly tested with my n73, speed as per mentioned before over the 3GU...

n73 can only support UMTS (384kbps). No support for HSDPA. If you want to get better speeds, I recommend you get the ZTE MF600 modem because there is a "Band Selection Mode" option.

Before you register for Celcom 3G, try and place ur exisiting phone sim into the ZTE MF600 and select "Only WCDMA" in the "Band Selection Mode" option. Good luck icon_rolleyes.gif

tried that with my MF600, seems cannot connect at all with only WCDMA, if put to WCDMA preffered, then it can connected with only GPRS. and I am suspecting is it my phone sim limited to only GPRS? I wonder, my WBB can connect HSDPA, and why my phone sim cant? arrrhhh....

Another case, I slot my phone sim to my E160G, it show only GPRS too.. no luck on HSDPA... what to do?
*
How old is your sim card? Some older generation sim cards does not support 3G. I know this because 2 years ago when I lost my sim card and got it replaced at Maxis, they asked me whether I want a 3G enabled sim card.

1) What's the difference of this Maxis broadband service with the infamous Maxis Wireless Broadband?
This is not actually broadband. It's "Maxis Mobile Internet" or "Maxis 3G Data". Difference? No termination penalty, no FUP & no data usage limit. Also, you must buy your own 3G modem & phone.

2) It seems this has no fair usage policy while Maxis WBB has 3GB limit?
Yes. No FUP.

3) I'm not sure if my area is covered with Maxis 3G, can I check using Hotlink before registering for postpaid?
There is no definitive test until you actually start to use it. Try taking a look at Maxis 3G Coverage.

4) Bound to any contract?
No.

5) Packages that available? I have my own unlocked HSDPA modem, possible to get any package that allows me to not to opt for any modem?
For packages go to "Charges & Packages". No modem or phone is provided. Only a 3G sim card will be given.

Haiya...stop flamebaiting la...

Some people consider it a loophole because Maxis did not officially state in their website that they allow Unlimited 3G without postpaid. It's actually a wise move by Maxis to create confusion among users so the network won't be congested like MaxisWBB sweat.gif

As for 2 x 3G Unlimited for RM 114, I also don't know as I haven't tried yet but those who are willing to go the *extra mile* and test their luck, go ahead and post your results here icon_rolleyes.gif
