fate has it.. i broke my personal best yesterday by breaking the hour.. & this morning while riding my motorbike to work, going at 80km/h+, my rear tire came off, & i went down crashing.. broke my left radius (arm). the doc said they need to insert a plate, right now it's in a partial cast. i dunno how long it's gonna take to heal.. i hope i can still make the adidas kotr. other than broken left arm, there are cuts & bruises everywhere ? a deep cut in my left toe, dislocated shoulder.. thts it i guess..

For a beginner, I should start with walks, then interchange it with jogs right? |

Hey guys,
I just came back from Octagon's office to pick up my medal. Chatted with a staff regarding the marathon. Dug some insider's information All I can reveal are these - they're grossly understaffed (they hv less than 10 staff in Msia), they outsourced most of the event (to DBKL, FTAAA/MAU, vendors etc), put too much trust on said parties to deliver their promises (we all know how it's like in Msia |

To be fair, Sing Mara started sh**ty too. But it's probably one of the most accessible, newbie-friendly marathon now. I'm contemplating to go for half or full this year. |

Ccube, I'm pretty much interested also in the Newton shoes that you are bringing in. I've read ur blog and you noted down that it is not suitable for wide feet like mine.
There really is no Newton shoes for wide feet? |

See, it's all that PR company's fault and Nike gets the blame when people thinks that when Nike gives free shoes, they expect a good review.
And tengster, use normal English lar. Your England too powderful until I cannot understand. |

QUOTE(phoenix @ Jul 15 2009, 12:13 AM) See, it's all that PR company's fault and Nike gets the blame when people thinks that when Nike gives free shoes, they expect a good review. it's the same case of SCKLM when one of the PR company staff came to Facebook to say good thing (if any) about the event management and defended like a crying baby.......And tengster, use normal English lar. Your England too powderful until I cannot understand. thus, manufacturer should tell the PR company off in shrewd manner.....all runners should have freehand to write good, bad, boh soong, excellent feel about the shoe.......but it must be done in fair manner. Credit due must be given. Dont skali one throw in some vest and socks, the review change 360 degree. |

Korang nak jadik macam Singaporean la pulak
@Lemmings I'm a slow runner (read walker). So, I don't mind bringing stuff with me. More of I have to - in case of emergency. Handphone is on my arm, car key is in my shorts pocket. In the SCKLM, I took so long to finish, my keychain became rusty! LOL This post has been edited by hanjo55: Jul 15 2009, 10:07 AM |

Runnerz, do you think it's advisable for me to go for my first full marathon debut at SCSM when the max I can go at my comfortable pace now is only <15km?
It's less than 5 months away but almost another 30 km to gain is the main question that's playing in my head. What do u guys think? Just do it? |

You'll be able to run it. Will you be able to recover from it? (especially when you hv such small window from end of puasa month to the marathon day itself) I ran my first half mara 3 weeks before running my full marathon. I was able to finish it but I'm hving such a hard time recovering from it. The finisher tshirt sucks also. Haih Running half for SG. Aim for sub-2:45 |

shahwan86, Syd G is right. PBIM and SCSM is just 2 weeks apart, so you might not have enough time to recover. My plan is run BIM (Borneo Int) half, which already reg. Now is the SCSM, still thinking to do half or full.
My friend doing full for both. so, have running partner. |

If u can hack it, then just aim for completion of the run with no timing in mind. Taking into consideration ur endurance level is low ie <15k. Aug - Sept: Base training ie make sure u can clock weekly mileage of 30k-40k. And Sat/Sun will be a longer run of 15k to 20k Oct - Nov: Your weekly mileage shud be hitting 40k to 50k. Sat/Sun LSD shud be alternating between 25k, 28k and 30k+ This is a very tight program bcos you dont have a base foundation and the puasa month will disrupt ur training. if u think u can hack it, i will draw out a more detail prg for you to follow. |

hanjo55: Just stay at those backpackers inn. Less than SGD50 will get you through a night. Plenty at Bugis area which is a walking distance to the start/finish point. You just need a place to stay and to clean yourself up. If you go commando style, I'm afraid you will regret it eepcially after the race when you be sticky and stinky. |

phoenix: macau is just one day away from SC. I saw their route, looping on the same route. not sure this will cause confusion.

steveysl: Macau Marathon and Singapore Marathon has been falling on the same date every year. Have done Singapore Marathon twice for the past 2 years and it's time for a change. And yes, the route is 2 loops.

Aiya where were you? But at least it's good that you ran anyway and collected the goodie bags etc. Was at BA carpark but I guess you went too early to the clock tower. The run was prolly one of the best FTAAA run. A lil jam at the water stations but there were plenty of them (and 100 plus too!). Finishing line was organized and goodie bag collection was fast fast fast. The usual loooong queue at the Milo tent turned us off so we went to collect free Nature Valley bars (got 2! one in the bag and one @ the stall Hamstring still recovering (grumble grumble) so I decided to go easy and take it as training for adidas KOTR. Ran with bubbles - her first 10k. She finished within 1:30 |

I was disappointed with my Siemens Run yesterday
I was in the Mens A category. I was targeting a time of 46 mins for my third running event. Ended up doing 49 mins. Multiple frustrations : 1. I felt very heavy (woke up at 450am in the morning and tried to clear my bowels for almost 30 mins but nothing 2. My right feet gave in 2km from the end so I had to run that stretch awkward (my right feet landed oni on the outside) 3. I didn't reach my target! 4. Was 10 seconds off from getting a medal (102 place) Lessons learned : 1. Eat a lot of fruits the day before so that it's easier to clear my system the morning of raceday. 2. Go early so that can start at the front (I started at the middle again yesterday although I lapor diri at 705am - you guys so early laa haha) Comments on race : 1. A lot of water stations. Very very good 2. Love the cheering 1 km stretch from the end. Gave me an added boost. 3. Can we stop making a mess at Dataran Merdeka? It's not hard to find a trash bin This post has been edited by shahwan86: Jul 20 2009, 09:16 AM |

Congrats to those who ran Siemens Run yday. It was indeed a very well organised race especially for the Pom Pom gals who gave me extra booster for the final push.
SHAPE Run, we all from LYN gotta gather together and take a picture, what do u think. Maybe we can park at the carpark next to the Palace Of Justice, and meet at a specific time. Be early so that there is more time for us to lepak and sembang. Deal?? Anyone still giving away or selling SHAPE Run bib (mens), plz let me know. Well done to those who ran the Siemen's Run. I sold off my bib at the last minute to take part in the 160KM KRI Century Ride at Ipoh, my road cycling debut in preparation for dualthon and hopefully triathlon. Spent almost 8 hours on the road and am barbequed now.

[/quote] There is a big carpark area next to POJ and another one opposite (next to Kompleks Perbadanan Putrajaya) But since there are many runners in SHAPE run better be there early to get a slot. And especially for those not familiar with Putrajaya area. Dont end up rounding the all the Precints |

hey guys, hearing from all of you here, the Siemens run must've been an excellent experience.
I was at the DiGi run in Kuantan that same morning as well, the race was also very well organised with all the right stuff in the right place. Just wondering if anyone knows of any photographers who were there that day. Most of the usual photographers should be at Siemens, just trying my luck to see if there were any present in Kuantan as well. Cheers! |

QUOTE(blackstripes @ Jul 22 2009, 10:30 PM) Its sales time, so why dont you go to watch shops and get a simple digital watch with stopwatch functions. Timex has both cheap and expensive ones (I think they are also the official timekeepers for numerous marathons and triathlons). PK Time in MidValley and 1utama sells them. And the straps are usually rubbery-plastic things so your sweat wont stick (they're usually water resistant anyway, at least 30M I think). And they're not heavy. |

So anyone collected their race pack for Shape Run? How's the Reebok vest? Quality good?
Also is the size same with the SCKLM and Siemens Run (both also Reebok vest), if same means easy no need to open the pack and try. |

Have anyone heard of the Vibram Five Fingers? It have been getting raves for mimicking barefooted running and it have been said to improve your running experience.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7mELaYQ-uI http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/index.cfm I'm looking to organise a bulk purchase for it as I'm interested in owning a pair just to experience it, anyone else would be in for this? |

QUOTE(Syd G @ Jul 25 2009, 08:51 AM) That's great, the more we have the more we can save, eh? I am trying to get it before the next marathon is up, I've already missed Adidas' as well as Shape's so I'm eager to get on the next one.QUOTE(vin_ann @ Jul 25 2009, 10:50 AM) Well, some people are beginning to question why we are using shoes with thick layers why our feet is perfectly built to handle stress and impact. So many have started to run barefooted (macam our ancestors ler haha), this shoe tries to mimic that feeling, so we are running as natural as possible but with protection against gravel, dirts and such. Some have claimed it have strengthened their feet and toes, more welcoming on the knees, gets you more stability and balance and many have claimed their running time have improved as a result and being named Time's Best Invention in 2007. I'm eager to try it out as otherwise I'd be spending the same amount of money on another generic pair of shoes. With this, i can use it for hiking, normal walking and whatnots as it is just so durable. QUOTE(ccube @ Jul 25 2009, 11:27 AM) saw that in Sg. I just wonder if you can run with it comfortably. As we are never used to running barefoot. Wallking with it shud not be a prob. I think with a couple times of using it, we can get used to it. After all, I still prefer to play football barefooted and as humans, we are naturally built to run/walk/jump or whatever barefooted. |

Hi guise,
FINALLY got to try em Newtons from ccube. I love love love love it!!. I've never been able to do the heel strike (I prefer barefoot when I was younger) so it was an amazing product for me. But alas, my wide Asian feet are too wide for the shoes. Newton recommends women with duck feet to buy men's model 1.5 size smaller. RIP toenails. @yennshin I felt like giving up @ km6. But I knew I was dehydrated because I didnt start sweating till km7 or so (after drinking 3 cups of water). Putrajaya was warm but at least the drivers were nicer @tengster |

The weather was so warm last night. I stop at every water station including the one at the very beginning. I grabbed a bottle of mineral water from there but I couldn't finish it... Really appreciate they had another water station at the last 2km, I was so thirsty at that time. I really like their goodies back compared to SCKLM!
Fortunately, I managed to finish the journey with 71+ minutes. That was my 2nd run and I see improvement from it... happy~ |

Just breathe as you would normally?
But then hv heard some comment in regards to using the mouth to breath as it drys the mouth? hence drink lotsa water haven heard much talk abt breathing via the chest or tummy? but when u run enough and at a pace that doesn't realli kill u, there wun b a real diff when u breathe as usual or at that moment when u run.. the huffing n puffing is not that prevalent so to speak This post has been edited by d3vilzzzz: Jul 28 2009, 01:13 PM |

Yeah, orange colour for this year.
So how's the size? I just agak the size since they just hang up the shirt sample, all satisfy with the size you choose? By the way, they doesn’t allow to change the shirt size. |

The KOTR vest is tight fitting. i took size L and ngam ngam for me. luckily didnt take size M. this is the original Adi ClimaCool vest, not those make locally. For once Adi is giving out ori vest like Sg mara.

Ran with the Adi KOTR vest under the rain. perform well and water does not pile up, drains off the water easily. only thing as i said the design is tight fitting. overall happy with the quality.

Quick question. How do you guys feel abt online run registration. Register online, pay online, pay around rm10 extra for courier service for vest, bib, reporting card. Just show up on running day and have a good time. |

Wow, so fast you 'officially open' the shirt! ha... I agreed this year's design is tight fitting, I din took part in last year's AKOTR but from the archive pics I saw, it should be loose fitting. I wanted to go for L but end up with M coz when I compare the size (without put on), it's almost the same. M for me is just ngam ngam. Nice quality! |

i just love online registration and payments. dun have to travel so far just to sign up and pay. like my shape run...additional rm2 i get the correct running vest. i maybe opting for the additional courier service for penang mara. so dun have to last min collect bibs. good to hear that the adidas running vest is of good quality unlike the reebok for scklm and shape. naik bulu very fast after abit of friction. damn...shape run sg gets nike running vest! do u mean this shoe that is cheap is an old model? I still do not understand why adidas want to differntiate the market with different models. Here we only have supernova in local adidas. This adidas shamiso is mayb for US market...i saw in some website but not from adidas website |

I still do not understand why adidas want to differntiate the market with different models. Here we only have supernova in local adidas. This adidas shamiso is mayb for US market...i saw in some website but not from adidas website how often do u see adidas selling their shoes at RM169? if ur buying it in M'sia and of coz supernova is amongst the latest.. launch this yr or last.. i tink the latest is gazelle though.. |

Why organiser of running events can't do things properly??
Adidas KOTR..they said no more XL size vest. I was given L vest...which squeeze tightly around my body. Maybe it is a sign of more problems to come during race day...as usual.. MALAYSIA BOLEH!! |

Guys,
Currently when running, I'm feeling pain on the inner side of my left foot. Below the ankle. Kinda like sprain feeling but the pain is felt when I'm lifting the foot off the ground. ![]() If based on this graph, it is at the area of Deltoid ligament and Tibialis Posterior Tendon but more to the latter. What is causing the pain? What can I do to relieve it? What shall I do to prevent it from happening again? |

Dear runners:
I'm in the market for a pedometer (it's going to be a present for a friend), but I know next to nothing about where to get 'em here or what brand/model to go for, since I'm too fat and too lazy to run in a tropical climate. Does anyone have any recommendations? (Also, I need to buy this within the next week at the latest, so speedy replies are much appreciated.) angrydog: there's a chap here name is akuadam (flip back a couple pages and I think you'll see his reply) who sells Garmin Forerunner stuff. What you need is a Forerunner 50 + footpod (or if budget allow a FR305 or FR405).

QUOTE(afieQ @ Jul 30 2009, 04:20 PM) Side stitch is caused by a things the first as pointed out by Devilzzz, your abs/core muscles are weak secondly your breathing technique is wrong Try incorporating more core workouts if you really plan to run, google up and check in youtube for core excercises, planks, sideplanks , bird dogs just to name a few core workouts that you can try as for your breathing technique try to run at a comfortable pace 1st and figure out you breathing technique then notch it up higher slowly |

tested out the Adi KOTR vest for the 2nd time this morning on a 10k run. Chafing, chafing, chafing. The armpit opening is too tight and small, hence causes chafing. Not a good vest to use for long distance running (at least for me). the cutting is tight even though i go for Size L.

QUOTE(ccube @ Aug 1 2009, 11:03 AM) tested out the Adi KOTR vest for the 2nd time this morning on a 10k run. Chafing, chafing, chafing. The armpit opening is too tight and small, hence causes chafing. Not a good vest to use for long distance running (at least for me). the cutting is tight even though i go for Size L. wow. thanks for the info....lucky, otherwise i would have worn it tomorrow.collected my bib only today. but how come no timing chip at all? still using manual system? |

Savor_Savvy: This question has been asked and answered many many times. Running pants with storage compartment, arm pouch, waist pouch, hydration belt, race-id belt, carry with bare hands, etc... are some of the ways.

There are running specific brands like Fuel Belt and Ultimate Directions. Google their brand and you find them. I'm able to help you get them should you be interested. Pricey yes, but it does its job really well. There's another brand call Nathan which ccube is carrying but you gotta to be creative enough to add additional pouch or something as it's design only to carry gels and your race-id.
The Nike waist bag that was mentioned, unless it's the music pouch designed for ipod which costs about RM89.90, the others are just too big and bulky for running. |

It is not the music pouch, and definitely it is big. Have some reservations about buying it at first. But after going through traumatic experience during the SCKLM, realized that i need to have one as well. Oh, the price is RM55 btw.

went to see Adidas KOTR today (didn't run, leg injured), saw some bad stuffs..
nearing the finish line, going into the tunnel, there are SOOOOOOO many ppl walking opposite the running line, causing some runners blocked by them! there's 2 road there, and somehow all ppl that have finished the run walked on the running line and another one is my fren complained there's no water at finish after about 8.45am.. |

Read somewhere in the blog that some motorists verbally abused the runners for causing road block in Shah Alam. Can they blame runners?

There was a carnival thingy going on beside the stadium also what. Shah Alam drivers arent used to hving traffic jam... ahh.. boohoo.
Had a torturing run. But towards the end after entering stadium entrance, my husband saw me from afar and grabbed my hand. We ran towards the finish line together. He finished a few mins earlier and was already wearing his selipar. He's such a doll I tell you |

Hi all,
Did y'all hv a good run? I had quite a good one despite seeing 2'00 on me watch pass by.. finished in 2'09 It has been sum time since I last saw the 2hr mark appraching I haven been doing me LSDs for I think 2 weeks due to me injury To top things off, did a hard brick training yest (80km bike + 8km run) causing me thighs to burn as I ran today I think needless to say me semi dislocated arm was paining throughout the run Tried to pace marvinct initially but wasn't able to follow him, he dropped me i ran the race cadence style + walking a few of me pcaemaker peeps passed me and I was encouraged to follow them, thank GOD for them else I would have never finished under qualifying time.. this was I tink me most talkative race of the year as I had lotsa uncles and all whom encouraged me to pace with them I though the traffic control was terrible though.. |

QUOTE(marvinct @ Aug 3 2009, 11:25 AM) Is too much pressure on forefeet the main reason? Well, not sure if its the same. For me, I tested with the treadmill pressure thingy at Schein Orthopaedic at The Curve(Opps Johnson Fitness )i don't understand why i got it. I didnt change my running pattern, shoe or running surface. definitely didnt increase my milleage as well as i have reduced my milleage by a third since scklm. My forefeet landing properly but I didnt utilize my heel(for landing and push off). so most of the pressure was on my forefeet. They will show you the result in what they called the "Butterfly" effect. Imagine a horizontal 8 which shows your feet pattern for landing and push up. After resting for abotu 2 weeks and corrected my landing/push up, okay liao. before I had sharp pains at times on my right leg, below the knee... It got better after 2 weeks of resting. May be you can give it a go when you are free? they are pretty friendly, didnt push for their product as well. This post has been edited by metalfreak: Aug 3 2009, 12:11 PM |

Keep us updated k Octagon was really really lucky not to hv this kind of cases happening during the SCKLM. Adidas KOTR .. only third water station ran out of water but when I arrived @ all the stations, no 100 plus - not sure ran out or not supplied. Finish line even worse. Hills + haze + heat = KOTR |

Take ur time to rest and make a strong comeback for training. i shhud resume my training by next week or week after next. will clock in the miles again in preparation for my TNF 100k DUO, then PBIM and the FINALE will be the Putrajaya 12hr walk. I m not sure if there are any races in between but will always be good to do some races in between our training. Note: I m planning Gold Coast Mara in 2010. This will be early part of July. I want to ask this from you guys (those that are not the winner type). Have you been to those races or take part in categories that are without timing chip? Normally the small scale race and also the short distance (10km). If you do, I'm sure you know how the finishing line is right? Full of people.
My question is, when do you stop your time? It is a long queue till the finishing line. Do you wait till you really cross the line? which will definitely take longer time. Or do you stop the time as you reach at the back of the queue? which is technically not the finishing line yet. In my opinion, both do not give you the real time. Then, how? |

Hi all,
Had my surgery on the 31/7 to insert metal plates for my left radius. A K-wire was also inserted into my left wrist, I guess to immobilize the wrist while allowing the bone to fuse. After the the surgery I woke up earlier than I shud have (I was on GA so I was unconscious) so I was in great pain after tht. They gave me a 50-day MC, so I'm now at home. I guess I can start my running again once they've removed the K-wire & my stitch wounds have healed completely. I plan to make the Mizuno Wave Run my comeback race, so I've got 2 months .. Really itching to get out & do something... |

Just wondering, do you guys ever have any jabbing knee pain after running for a while? To make it worse, the pain just stays on for 10-15 minutes... My friends told me to stop running but I enjoy running and it is sort of my preferred way to stay healthy.
