PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU PROCEED
10 Things You Should Know About UniFi

1. This service is a 24- month contract and a termination fee of RM500 is chargeable for termination of service within the contract period.

2. If your premises reside in high rise building served via copper, you must terminate your existing Streamyx service (if any).

3. Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise. You will be responsible for providing TV and 4-socket extension cord to complete the installation. No installation appointment will be made for premises under renovation.

4. All triple play services (internet, voice and TV) must be activated during service installation. Partial service activation is not allowed.

5. UniFi is a wired broadband service. Wireless connectivity is an option and is subject to interference and obstructions factor.

6. UniFi account owner or authorised contact person must be available during the service installation. For high rise premises, owners are required to make arrangement with Building Management Office for installation permission, internal cabling and access to telecommunication room.

7. Installation fee includes external cable entrance up to the internal wiring with maximum of 15 metres for fiber cable, 15 meters for Ethernet/phone cables and 30 metres for casing (raceway). Additional charges will be applied for cable more than 15 metres and 30 metres casing (raceway) and charges will be included in your UniFi bill.

8. For other non-standard installation e.g. wiring above ceiling, underground and conceal wiring, you may appoint your own contractor or deal directly with TM appointed contractor. Payment will be made directly to the contractor.

9. Please provide correct and valid Billing Address / Postal Address. Select either paper bill or e-mail bill (please provide valid and preferred e-mail address). Bill is also accessible at myUniFi (https://occ.unifi.my). TM may impose a minimal monthly charge for paper bill with notification given.

10. All UniFi equipment provided by TM is subject to 12 months warranty period.

IMPORTANT NOTES (MUST READ)

Internal Wiring
Minimal drilling is required for fibre installation to the premise to allow fibre cable entrance into the house. Internal concealed wiring will not be carried out by TM. However, customers can arrange their own or choose from TM’s authorised list of contractors at their own expense. TM shall propose the recommended list of contractor for the concealed wiring (wall or ceiling). As this is beyond the job scope of RNO, customer will deal and make payment directly to the contractor. Operationally, reappointment is to be arranged when the conceal wiring is completed. Customer is required to inform TM for installation appointment.
Premise currently under renovation
During installation day, TM will not proceed if the customer premise is under renovation unless insist by customer, TM will charge customer accordingly if request for other appointment time. Customers who are having their home renovated are advised to inform TM prior setting service installation appointment. TM shall not be responsible for any damages resulted from construction and renovation done by customer through third party during or after the installation.
Customer Unreachable and Change of Appointment
Premise inaccessibility or deferment of installation appointment upon the installation team’s arrival at a customer’s premise will be subject to a charge of RM100. Re-appointment will be subject to time slot availability.
High-Rise VDSL & FTTH
For high-rise (condos, apartment, office building) ,TM would require to access the MDF/SDF room to physically activate the port which normally locked by the Building Management/Maintenance. Therefore, customers are required to communicate and make arrangement with your Building Management/Maintenance Office to ensure someone is available to grant the access to TM UniFi Installer to MDF/SDF room during the installation time. Without the access to MDF/SDF room, installation cannot be performed and TM has to revisit which will incur unnecessary cost to customer.
In the case of copper wired building that uses VDSL2 technology, successful delivery of UniFi services is subject to technical testing. TM has the right to cancel the order should the building copper wire is deemed as not passing the technical test or not ready to deliver the service.

From making an appointment to the signing-off of the Service Acceptance Form, here is a complete step-by-step process of how we bring UniFi into your home or office.

Step 1: Appointment

Appointment is made at the point of registration. You may choose your preferred date and time for UniFi installation but please note that installation for FTTx (Fibre to the Home or Office) is expected to take between 4-8 hours, and for VDSL2, 2-3 hours.

24 hours prior to the agreed installation date and time, the TM UniFi Centre will call you for a final confirmation. Our UniFi technician will also call you just before he goes to the agreed address of installation.

Step 2: Site Assessment

Upon arrival at your home or office, our technician will brief you on the step-by-step process of the entire installation. This includes:

(i) Site assessessment (outdoor and indoor)
(ii) Cable entrance (drilling point for FTTx)
(iii) Equipment termination point
(iv) Route of wiring

In the case of FTTx installation, our technician will determine the location of the Fibre Distribution Point (FDP), whether it is located on an overhead pole, or underground. If the underground fibre access is blocked due to any home or office renovation, it may require a longer installation period than for overhead fibre access installation.

For VDSL2, site assessment is much quicker since our technician need only access the building’s MDF room and perform the necessary cabling there.
Note: VDSL2 - your existing Streamyx or Business Broadband access will be disabled during this exercise.

Step 3: Installation

It's time to complete the installation process. As part of this process, some minimal drilling may be required. After laying the cables we will determine which modem is suitable for your home. Indoor installation requires more time as our technician needs to lay the internal fibre optic cable. Cables of sufficient length will be provided. However, in cases where additional cable lengths are required, some minimal charges will be incurred. To prevent unsightly wiring, wires and cables will be housed in proper casings.

However, if you wish it to be a drill-free installation, and if the fibre optic cables are required to be pulled through your home or office ceiling, we have a panel of contractors that you can work with, the costs of which will be borne by you.

VDSL2 does not require drilling since UniFi connection will come from the existing phone jack in your home or office. For this premise type, indoor installation requires minimal setup time.

Step 4: Equipment Setup

After laying all the cables, it’s time to connect the equipment. Our technician will first set up the BTU followed by Premise Gateway, Set-top-Box (for Residential package only) and DECT Phone. Once the equipment is tested and works properly, our technician will then show you that all the services are in working order.

Step 5: Completion

You are required to sign-off a Service Acceptance Form (SAF) as part of the process to complete the installation work. For a complete understanding of what TM UniFi service is, please read the terms and conditions in your service agreement.

NOTICE: Please note that if you have just applied for TM UniFi and receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from TM offering other Internet plan without the free HyppTV and free Cordless Dect Phone at lower price, they are not from TM. They are actually Maxis agents trying to hijack orders from TM. Please note that if you decided to go for Maxis Fibre, you will miss out all the goodies of HyppTV and unlimited free calls to all TM fixed line nationwide and cheaper call rate to all mobile networks. Make sure you pick up calls from 03-26015000 or some other similar numbers. This is normally call to upgrade UniFi (including the RM30 discount offer). My colleague was complaining yesterday that he has been subscribing for more than 2 years but never offered to upgrade with a discount, only to realize he has not been picking up calls from numbers not saved in his phone. In fact, he did have missed calls from 03-26015000.

I can verify that I was also told it was a life time offer. Since I needed to ride on my bike yesterday, I told them to call me next week. haha.

I needed to do more than just upgrade. I need to change my details.

Today Unifi VIP 5 has been installed at my condo, I'm happy with the speed and all. But the problem is with HyppTV sad.gif

All channel is showing black screen with a small logo at the bottom right hand side (satellite with red X) except for one as seen on tv channel and the other radio channel.

Anyone knows what is the problem?

The installer told me to leave it for about an hour so that it will download all the stuff. But it is more than an hour but still the same.

When I call the help line, I'm asked to wait at least 24 hours before I can make a report sweat.gif

And yeah, the Lan 4 (red color) is connected from the router to the Hypptv unit. Tried restarting all devices the same as well.

I have no idea what happened, but today I connected twice and on both occasions I couldn't receive any packets. Traceroute terminated at the first hop after my router.

I reconnected a few times and finally my Internet's working again.

TM now is IPv6 supported start from 27th September 2013, don't know if there anything affect the reliability of the services.... sweat.gif

The usage of Internet has increased tremendously over the past few years. As the number of devices being connected to the Internet increases, the current IP which is the IPv4 is not able to accommodate addresses. IPv6 is the next generation of IP that will replace the current IPv4 and eliminate IP address exhaustion problem.

As the Internet progressively becomes a dual IPv4/IPv6 network, ensuring that users are IPv6-enabled will be critical for retaining universal Internet connectivity. However, IPv4 and IPv6 are two completely separate protocols and do not support each other. Thus, in order to address this issue, TM is implementing dual stack platform.

With the implementation of Dual-Stack platform, TM users will receive both IPv6 and IPv4 addresses. It allows users to simultaneously reach IPv4 and IPv6 content and offers very flexible coexistence strategy to support transition from IPv4 to IPv6. The network will continue to work as per normal with no effect on billing and internet connection.

I got the upgrade. But the number is from 03 2601 5000. Talk about TnC for a long time for the upgrade. They ask to confirm ur registration information such as name, IC and address. They are not given any phone to call back. They also tell the upgrade taking around 48 hour. Need to wait for email to come.. The next day, got email and the speed is upgraded.

*
Yup, I got call from that number too, did the same verification as you. The number given, he said if you have any problem you can give them a call.

You got your upgrade already?

Just recovered my two days down Unifi service sad.gif

somehow,

the technician didn't doing a good/clean job reconnection at the Telephone DB Room outside of my house/floor.

After some diagnostic the technician found out is my house telephone wiring cable at the DB Room having issue.

Due to bad condition of the cable and shortage of the telephone cable connect to the DB Board, the technician pull out the whole DB Board just to re-connected my line.

of coz with damaged some parts there in Telephone DB Room... shakehead.gif

although I got back my Unifi service, but I'm afraid the DB Board just leave like that it will consequences affect other users in same block.

FYI, I'm staying in Condo first floor.

the technician advice me re-pull the new telephone cabling from the ground floor main DB Room there to my house.

question,

is TM appointed any telephone cabling contractor?

can I request them sending someone over to quote a price?

or is there any forumer can be intro to get the job done?

I would like to re-pull a new telephone wiring to my house in order for me to upgrade to 10MB or 20MB connection in near future.

The only caution is to prevent contractor to chop extra duit kopi eg. "It's raining or going to rain, we unable to install today unless...", "There is blockage to link the fibre cable inside the house unless..." & etc... sweat.gif

Just to check, the router only power on (Orange color) while all the yellow color (Lan & internet) no color at all. Tried to restart and reset. Still the same. Suspect router at fault.

Drop by to TM Point just now. They won't allow us to buy router directly. Must go thru their technician first.

So basically RM120 + 45 services charge total RM165 for a stupid router LOL

Nonsense to the max.

No matter. Guess will drop by lowyat plaza this Saturday.

Now my major concern now is the black box. According TM it's lifetime warranty but that's exclude service charges. Meaning, have to request thru TM and they will send their technician people. We have to pay them (RM50) correct me if I'm wrong.

Is this how TM work? This is totally bullshish

since i'm almost nearing my end of contract, just got a call from Unifi ppl. but it is different from what the number that you guys mention earlier. 03-83184000...

well, i do subscribe to 20mbps, so they perhaps unable to offer me promo upgrade speed. they just called in to ask about my opinions on their service. since my area was not being hit hard by disconnections, i give them a 8.5/10, citing need more HD channels package only for hypptv.

but i did ask them if they can provide me higher speed...30mbps perhaps. they say they would refer my request to their management then. they did mention they might have to revise a new price plan for me, if they decide to blast me with 30mbps plan. fingers crossed. brows.gif

For my case, my bill is on 16th of every month. On 24th of July, I installed on my Unifi.
On 16th of August, I received my Unifi e-statement. The charges are one-off Stamp Duty Fee of RM10.00; Pro-rata of Unifi usage from 24th of July to 15th of August; and Unifi Monthly fee from 16th of August to 15th of September.

For you case, you bill could be like this breakdown IF the payment date is 16th of every month..
- Stamp Duty Fee = RM10.00
- Monthly fee from 2nd of October 2013 to 15th of October 2013.
- Monthly Fee from 16th of October 2013 to 15th November 2013.
If you have a e-statement, this statement should be in email INBOX on 16th of October 2013.

I guessed you are using Auto-pay to make payment for your Unifi.
Based my personal experience, my e-statement is 16th of every month.
On 20th, I will received an SMS to inform me that my e-statement is available online. You go to logon to myUniFi at www.unifi.my for billing viewing and payment details.
On 24th, I will received an SMS to inform me that I have made payment.

Remember that your statement for payment will be available on 16th of October 2013, based on my criteria.

Hi I'm currently a Unifi VIP 5 user and I don't know if anyone have this experience. Yesterday my mother received a call from this number (0326015000) and they claimed to be from TM. They mentioned a promotion of upgrading our Unifi package to VIP 10 by just adding RM 20 (Currently my family's paying RM 179 which is VIP 5 + Old Platinum Pack).

Fear of scam I looked up the number online and the number was from TM telemarketing department. Already given the YES to upgrade to VIP 10 and awaiting for 48 hours to process.

This is the second time we received that kind of call. First time was from TM or their reseller I'm not sure (forgot the number already) and apply for Unifi, told us to fax the document required and in a week I got Unifi VIP 5.

It's genuine call.. If you read this thread most of people here already receive the call.. Many wanna the call but not received it.. It's for subscriber who already finish 2 year contract.

But not sure how the pricing for you since you got platinum pack.. For me, it's just 169.. Extra 20 ringgit.. You will receive the confirmation email within 2 days.. I got the next day, and start enjoying 10Mbps..

Some websites keep on stuck at resolving host.. even with Google DNS these past few days.. I can confirm the website is working because when I load it on 3G network its fine.. just unifi cannot load...

and the website is like facebook, car website.. even sometimes lowyat also stuck at resolving host..
*
Hurrah... I'm not the only one having this issue.

I have a TM tech coming over tomorrow but honestly, the fault doesn't lie within my LAN. It's the provider end. I believe TM have made some changes to their routing causing packets to drop once it hits their internal network.

I can ping the DNS servers fine but domain resolution is failing.

EDIT: Maybe they're doing a test on the Information Minister's "threat/assurance" that they will not censor social media websites >.>

Requests are going out my local gateway to TMNET but nothing is coming back.

Not sure which part of Puchong are you at, but already checked with my friend living in Kinrara BK5 thereabouts that his Unifi is working perfectly fine, I'm in Puchong Utama and it's still not working at the moment, apparently, according to the other thread, it'll be until 6am(which I have no ideas where he got the info from).

Hmmm, funny is my contract with Unifi already over and didnt receive any call from them. Perhap they are calling the home phone instead of my hp.

Log a case thru Unifi customer service portal and waiting for their offer. See whether they will call me and offer or not. Ahahaha....

i got the offer from 0326015000 as well, ur turn will come for sure laugh.gif

Seems like only this side of Puchong got problrem. I'm in Taman Mas btw.

If I'm not mistaken we'll be facing this problem every once a month. Suddenly down at night, then back to normal next morning.

Just realized that our UniFi now supports iPv6! if you look at your post on the top right, you will see iPv6 next to Post #xx
Don't if this is a old news to you guys or not, but it is definitely good news for me!
further test using: http://test-ipv6.com/, I found out iPv6 is really supported on UniFi!

Same infrastructure doesn't means stable, it really relies on your area.
Maybe TM rent the bad infra to maxis? brows.gif
If you see on Maxis Forum, a lot complain about ping issues.
One of my friend said that its Astro IPTV has a crapload of problems.
Another of my friend say that its okay but he don't even know how to do speedtest so I don't know whether its okay or not.

Btw that resolving host is still on going, need to refresh page few times then only can load. YouTube is also stuttering because of this

Hi all

Just upgraded to ViP10 .. able to download about 1.2 to 1.4Mbs but now noticed that Hypptv images are breaking up. If I stop downloading, then the TV's ok.

I thought the Hypptv and internet has separate vlan and bandwidth ? Using original orange wireless router from Unifi.

Any suggestions besides calling Unifi ?

Now my major concern now is the black box. According TM it's lifetime warranty but that's exclude service charges. Meaning, have to request thru TM and they will send their technician people. We have to pay them (RM50) correct me if I'm wrong.

Is this how TM work? This is totally bullshish

I am using the white ZTE one instead of the Huawei black. Once a power surge burned the power adaptor to the ZTE modem. I called for replacement of the power adaptor, and was told, NO SERVICE CHARGE if its fault with the modem equipment (including power adaptor). If its NOT, but some other issue on my side, then there is a service charge.

it cost nothing to upgrade, you can do it at occ.unifi.my your self or call 1300881222. But be reminded that your contract will refresh to new 2 year contract.

Location is very important. Try to relocate your router to a more central location of your house. Alternatively, use a secondary router as an access point or a repeater.

Haha! When I was a little kid, I used to think that the telephones/fax machines can only be on the ground floor. But no, they are only limited by the length of your telephone cord. So get longer ones that can be laid all the way up to your fax machine.

If you have an unused wireless router lying around, then I thought that might save you some money. But if you want quick and simple configuration and to just get a repeater, I came across this today:

QUOTE(hinamoriamu @ Oct 6 2013, 09:07 AM)
You can get it RM59 today for Aztech's repeater(as it has a AP function just by default is repeater mode) at All IT lowyat
After that normal price again

Eh.. I have a telephone wire running all the way upstairs and it is neatly concealed underneath the staircase. I have not heard of a wireless telephone line. Even though that's quite possible I wouldn't recommend it. You don't have many other options.. unless you want to move your BTU.

L7's dlink firmware does not support repeating feature. You can however use it as an access point but you will need a LAN cable to connect both routers.

why pay extra RM20, i rather switch to maxis

i didnt receive call from them. i log a case in unifi portal and then they call me and offer me.

i've friends and relative using maxis but not stable. i prefer more stable line. so far i dont have much issue on unifi.

Hi guys, I need some advice here. I'm using standard Unifi VIP20 setup with 3 wired connection (desktop) and my family have more than 10 wireless devices (iPad, Tab, laptops). Some wireless devices can't load (Internet tak jalan) at all even though it was connected to the wifi and full bar signal strength.

Anyone know the solution for this matter? Is it that the wifi port has a limitation of only a certain number of devices could connect, eg no more slot?

Thanks!

Maybe many upgrade now or the staff on holiday.. Before this even heard the upgrade success after 10 minutes of the call..

But if already 48 hours, I think better call them and raise the report.

So sad. Called Unifi centre and enquiry on my upgrade to VIP10 status. To my shock, they said their system did not register anything on my request to upgrade. Told them I received called from them (03-26015000) and agreed to upgrade after go through the procedure of T&C.

They now will log a case and escalate it to upgrade department. Have to wait for their stupid call again. So disappointed.

the offer is when the Unifi personnel call you and offer you. the offer tied to 2 years contract. after end, you can still enjoy the same rate.

anyway, they upgraded my line within 1 hours after I complain. now happy using VIP10 line biggrin.gif rclxms.gif

After I've changed to VIP10 package, my ping during Dota2 was increased.

And it's becoming more laggy when someone is streaming/youtube etc.

Anyone having the same experience?

i think thats correct.
bcoz ur bill actually start on 4th every month. since ur unifi installed on 2nd oct, its 'back dated' the charge use on 2nd until 3rd oct.
ur billing cycle will start every 4th day each month.
calling mobile number and number not on TM line will be charge per minute and got tax.

so no worries.. icon_idea.gif

you need a router/managed switch that can segregate the VLAN 600.

Easiest way.Connect a normal switch on your LAN 4 port from your UniFi router.

Maybe the insurance company get our info from TM company.

Just got my unifi, however after switching off to manage the cable. The line is totally off.

Pc to router connection is fine, however router network to internet is non existence

btu stable for tel1, voip, link. However LAN1 keep blinking to establish connection with router

My guess is something to do with the router setting...

Is there anything I can set this right? Pretty urgent for work sad.gif thanks

Tel line ok? Can dial? If can than btu n fiber is ok.

Try restarting the router. If possible, try to login n see the connection status. Internet connection will be established by a router. As long as tel n hypp tv is working than ur fiber connection is ok.

Guys am I being DDOSed? I see this entry in my logs

"DHCP: Client receive ACK from 10.254.253.65, IP=10.1.132.35, Lease time=86400."

reverse WHOIS shows me it's coming from Germany

EDIT: how to prevent/block? I notice my internet keeps resetting from time to time.. this might be the cause..

Hey guys, I just had my VIP 5 unifi transfer from my old place at Kajang to my new place at PJ. They have replaced the old "black modem" to the new "silver modem".

This is what I am experiencing at the moment :-

(a) Torrenting in PJ area is crap. Back in Kajang, I was hitting at speed speed of 500kbps but now, speed is 20kbps or less. Is it normal?

(b) Connection is giving me a lot of headaches. The wireless service at my ground floor is good but things become worst when im upstairs. Connections is slow even though i have a full bar signal. I am using Channel 11 and with my Macbook Air.

Any advise? Or i need to get myself a homeplug?

Hi there new user of Unifi 5mbps here. They provided me the L7 router but it seems like not good for gaming. Before switching to unifi, I was a streamyx 4mbps user. I play dota2 with average of 20-40ms while using the 4mpbs connection.
But after I switch to Unifi my latency drops to average of 90-110ms while playin dota2.
Is it the L7 router problem?
Any sifu here can recommend me to change a router.

hi all sifus,

I just got unifi installed. The wireless router given is L7 NR2000 (DIR-614):

Product Page: DIR-614 Hardware Version: A1 Firmware Version: 1.05TM

I know that I need to some settings to make it secure and to optimize it for better wifi performance. I bumped into the following link that's very excellent but it is for DIR 615:

6 Things To Do when you got your Unifi Wireless Router D-Link Dir-615

I'd like to know if there is any similar site for DIR-614? It would be a great help! notworthy.gif

i have no problem assigning the login password, and have also changed the SSID name and wifi sec. key. But, I have problem finding where to do these:

4. Enable WAN to LAN Firewall

5. Block WAN Ping Responce, Block FTP, Block Telnet and what so ever.

6. Change Wireless Bandwidth Frequency to 20MHz

the interface of DIR-614 and DIR-615 is quite different.

I'd like to know if there is any similar site for DIR-614? It would be a great help! notworthy.gif

I think that TM is disconnecting people who is using torrent as I'm getting multiple DC when I start torrent. Finally I disconnect the PC that is using torrent and there is no more DC. Are you guys having the same issue? Then we would need to use VPN for this case.

I've been getting DNS name resolution errors from the stock Unifi DNS servers recently, so I've been looking into changing DNS servers on the router.

My question is: Is it still possible to use Google Open DNS on the DIR-615 router with v7.17 firmware? I've heard from some other posts here that you can't do so from v7.15 up, but it's a 136% resolution speed increase according to Namebench...

hi all, i'm using Unifi 5 at the ground floor, and my laptop is connected to it thru wi-fi one floor up. I sometimes get 3 bars and sometimes 4. is that considered acceptable? when i use speedtest.net to test it, sometimes I get near 5Mbps for both upload and download speeds even at 3 bars, and sometimes I can just get 2Mbps only.

I'd like to ask: which indicator is more important to indicate the strength of wi-fi? the bars, or the speedtest results?

The bars should be more relevant than the speed test. If you want a more accurate reading get a WiFi scanner app for your smartphone which can indicate the WiFi signal strength in dBm.

I suppose if you can access the internet properly the strength is acceptable.

Sorry if I missed out on some of the posts here, but is anyone here has fulfilled the 2-year contract and has upgraded from 5MB to 10MB promo for additional RM20 /month (for a total of RM169 /month)? I guess this will extend your contract for another 2 years - another ploy from TM to retain you. Anyway, just wanna know whether this is legit and how many of you have upgraded with this package smile.gif

Hi,

Does anyone having any problem with Unifi lately?

I just installed Unifi few weeks ago, it was superb. Internet browsing was fast, torrent is fast, youtube is fast. Compare to my previous Streamyx doh.gif

However, for past few days, webpage loading is start to slow (back similar to Streamyx speed). Initial I thought is due to torrent, or number of computer connecting to the router.I tried all methods I can think of, dns flushing, off and on back everything to reset, stop the torrent, ensure only one computer connecting.

Funny is problem only internet browsing, torrent still fast, youtube still fast. Only webpage opening is slow. Initial I thought due to the website, but, it is not, even if I open lowyat.net. rclxub.gif

Any help sifu? notworthy.gif notworthy.gif thank you thank you

Hi
I am a new subscriber to Unifi. Only 1 week since installed.
I have a question regarding HyppTV. Currently I am receiving all Channels free for 30 days.
Can I view even the VOD free for 30 days?
I am scared to open any movie as I am worried I will be charged

Kindly someone confirm this.
Thanks

the tech guy who installed it for me said that if i hit to open a paid content, it will prompt me to enter a code for purchasing, so it is child-proof. i suggest you give a call to unifi helpline to confirm this, then report here to us... biggrin.gif

I am a new subscriber to Unifi
I get all HyppTV Channels free for 30 days, now I only want to know whether I can watch even the VOD free during this 30 days?
When I click on any VOD, I can see the price like RM X.XX and I see the button for "Preview" and "Watch" rclxub.gif

Having problems for the past couple of days with torrents.
Turn on the pc, open the torrent program, and leave it only to find out a couple of hours later that somehow the line got disconnected god knows when. Can't enter the 192.. so have to restart the router.

Anyone else having similar issues?

default TM dns or google dns?

opendns has dnscrypt feature for protection last mile.

unifi dns they block access to certain websites .......

but if use thirdparty dns like opendns or googledns, you get some latency, and probably slower download speed. Not to mention when you use third party dns, your bandwidth quota MAY be used up quicker, because unifi dns uses because it may interfere in your pc connecting to the closest akamai servers. You can read more about that here.

So me personally, i leave default unifi dns normally. But when i want to circumvent the website restrictions, i use opendns with cryptdns enabled.

The best router to work for Unifi is Linksys E4200 V1 with a third party tomato variant firmware installed e.g. Victek's RAF, Toastman, Shibby..... because they have

1. VLAN management, which you need to get it to work for Unifi
2. Has very good bandwidth monitoring. I use CIFS to store my bandwidth logs,
3. for shibby and victek's RAF they have dnscrypt for opendns if you need that extra protection.
4. there is VPN functionality, which is best used on the router rather than on your pc. Although not everyone wants to pay for VPN service, at least the feature is there if you need it.
5. tons of improvements over stock firmware which usually remains stagnant in development, so not much incentive to improve, when they can just sell you the newer model instead laugh.gif

Anyway got newer routers available, so as long as it's broadcom cpu based, and is supported by the top 3 tomato variants, and it checks out in the performance department over at smallnetbuilder, then that should be fine.

are you sure ? Because they did send me a notification my speed would be throttled cause i had exceeded mine.

So i don't think your statement is necessarily true (maybe for the average joe, but not for the higher than average users) :/ because i got a different personal experience.

Also it was mentioned that download adds toward the quota, but uploading doesn't. I'm not sure if that is true now or whether they changed their policy hmm.gif

in the new thread, IPV6 seems to be available now for some areas. So this could possibly improve latency nod.gif nice for gamers.

uh this long time ago. I believe now they produce E4200 V2, which isn't as good as the V1 i heared.

Besides there are newer models of broadcom routers out such as the highend NETGEAR R7000 Nighthawk AC1900 Smart WiFi Router.

You can view a list of ranked routers here
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/rankers/rou...g/AC1750?rank=6

Things to look for:

1. has to have broadcom cpu to be supported by tomato firmware (which i strongly recommend)
2. check the performance reviews whether it's top 10 in the chart, and whether it meets your performance expectation.
3. check whether the router has issues in the review. Overheating, not enough RAM/FLASH etc etc....
4. check that tomato shibby, toastman or victek's raf support these routers. This is very important. Some of these models are very new, and so may not necessarily be supported now, but maybe in the future.
5. does it have the latest wireless 802.11ac ?
6. does it have gigabit ports ?

The E4200 i got is a popular model, and so that is why lots of the tomato modders support it. But i'm sure there more newer models out that has as much as support as it, but with better hardware features (most notably wireless ac).

just wondering but what router you currently using ? If your connected via the default tm router, then you need to be prepared to learn from the guides online, how to setup vlan tagging via tomato like on this thread
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2571693/all

And also how to setup ipv6 to work on your network setup, from this thread
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2978208/+200

alternative to tomato is a custom build router with pfsense. pros of this you can build a VERY powerful router, and have proper cooling added, which most routers don't have.

Yeah it's an atheros, so you can only use DD-WRT, which is a competitor to tomato.

If the DD-WRT can do vlan tagging, maybe you can get it to work with unifi, but you will need to ask the sensei on help on this.

PS: that youtube guide only talks about adding dd-wrt to your router. It doesn't cover how to set it up for Unifi. For that you need to ask on the forum, or find guides like Klseet's

question: if the unifi modem and router kaput, will TM exchange them for free just like streamyx?
*
optical modem = lifetime warranty if i'm not mistaken.so they can replace it FOC
router = not sure.one year warranty maybe ?

Hey UniFi,

What's going on? I purchased a 5Mbps plan, and after running a clean speedtest.net test multiple times, I am getting 0.25 to 0.5 Mpbs download and upload at best.

I am located in Taman Yarl.

Not impressed.

where you live ? Over in MD their doing maintenance. I think it's something to do with upgrading for ipv6 hmm.gif

i'm guessing if your issue happen today, maybe it could be related to unifi maintenance. Try call their support to find out.

The Fibre Optic line will not struck by lightning but the power source to DIR-615 can be struck by lightning. So, a power socket with lightning strike protector require. laugh.gif

hey guys, does your silver Huawei Unifi Modem lights on the lan flickers actively even if you have stopped all internet usage? Is it normal? Or Unifi have some backdoor program running? I have checked there is no person using the internet through the modem wifi user statistics.

I thought so, but then most of the other sensitive equipment in the house will be affected to. I'm glad our fuse box's trip switch is very sensitive, during large storms it frequently trips and cut the power supply before any damage to the house equipment could be inflicted. biggrin.gif

You've been leaving your BTU on 24/7 right? The thing about fiber is that you need power in order to use the phone.

Do I need extra device for this to work and pay extra monthly charges?

Sometimes if very low quality electrical equipment suddenly off or suddenly on due to trip or overpower when on without stabilizer has some percentage to cause faulty. Another possibility is lightning directly strike on the fiber optic "which has the most lowest % to be happen, even it happen the fiber optic cable will break into half & not only modem burn just like lightning directly strike on a human being if you are very very very unlucky" but human body is big, fiber optic cable is slim & tiny which need very high accuracy. laugh.gif

Does your vdsl2 modem heat up as much as the fiber GPON?

Heat + not properly ventilated (eg. units stacked on top of one another) = shorter lifespan

There are two types of VDSL2 modems that TM uses.

1) The Huawei (black) modem - some earlier batches have over-heating issues, in fact I got mine replaced many times due to overheating and unstable connection.

2) The ZTE (white, standing) modem - this one is better and do not have over-heating issues due to ventilation holes at both sides of the modem, but you must place it standing. If possible, ask for this modem the next time you ask technician to replace it. In fact, I got mine replaced with this one 9 months after using UniFi.

Am I one of the few (or perhaps the ONLY one) where our lazy TM contractors did not enclose our cables in "raceway" casing? Or are all seasoned contractors skimping on this step? Additionally, instead of using screw holes for both the fiber termination box and fiber wall socket they just nailed it right at the center to the wall, fast and convenient.

On a side note, the fiber cable does look less prominent without a larger enclosure, but the installers never offered to use those casing.

They used those nails meant for securing the fiber to the wall for convenience. laugh.gif At least this one I can still pull out with pliers if the need to relocate it arises. As for the fiber termination box, they used a solid nail right down to the head. I would have to destroy that box in order to get the nail out. sad.gif

In addition, those TM contractors asked for RM170 cash up-front for the installation because, the reason as given by said contractors, installing the fiber at the top floor of a double-story house is considered "over the ceiling" and incur additional charges. I gave them RM150 instead.

Any one have similar experiences? How much did you pay them?

furthest back room? So your fiber distribution box is located at the front? I pulled a lan cable down to the living room downstairs.

You are not the only one. Feedback from my customers, 99% of FREE Installation Customers including me, contractor will not put "raceway". If contractor recommended installation with charges, they will put "raceway". doh.gif

furthest back room? So your fiber distribution box is located at the front? I pulled a lan cable down to the living room downstairs.

Both at the back of the house.
Fiber from electric pole--------->follow three phase wiring------------>drill a small hole infront of house----------->to the back of the house--------->fiber distribution box----------->masuk ke dalam rumah with one more small hole----------->Btu------------->router
Furthest back room means the room behind on the second floor where I have the computer room. lol.

Thanks for the reply. Meaning once I apply the package I can have 5 phone number to use?
Do I need extra device for this to work and pay extra monthly charges?

Where can I find more information? Thanks a lot.
*
you want extra phone line is it?

for biz package i think you can get up to 6 lines for RM25 per line per month (cheaper than normal fix line which is RM48 for business)

for vip i think 2 lines only, don't know how much per month. logically, should be less than RM25.

to get the extra line, just call CS. but, it will better to go to TM point and talk with them if you want to choose nice number. over the phone, they will just read available numbers to you, which is kind of hard. you might take the whole hour just to decide which number to accept. and the phone call is not free.

they will provide you with all the equipment, but since the BTU already have one RJ11, if you just add 1 line they will just bring 1 normal phone. not wireless phone. but in my case, the phone was spoilt, and they have only wireless phone in their van. so we got wireless phone. which we didn't use btw because that line is for fax.

opendns has dnscrypt feature for protection last mile.

unifi dns they block access to certain websites .......

but if use thirdparty dns like opendns or googledns, you get some latency, and probably slower download speed.

*
the link that "educate" you about dns, apparently that guy got confuse with dns resolution and hosting with CDN.

dns data is negligible. the latency also kind of negligible. and i guess you have no idea tm dns will also query root server to resolve dns. do you believe tm server query is faster when google's server sit side by side in the same room with root server?

well i don't know about that, but personal experience, if i use google dns or open dns, my game lag compared to when using without. So clearly there is a noticeable effect between the 2 for me anyway hmm.gif

Homeplug. Do notice that they will have to be in the same phase if you're using three phase wiring.

Hei Guys,

Just wanted to find out if anyone here has experienced with my below scenario ;

I have subscribed for Unifi VIP10 since a long time ago and my Contract has already expired but i'm still proceeding with the connectiong on a monthly basis. As my home will be undergoing Renovations for approx 2 months, would i be able to temporary unsubscribe to Unifi, and then to reapply again when my renovation is completed?

By doing so i will not need to get them to come to my place to dissemble and reassemble the Fibre Optics and on top of that, i get additional duplicate devices as i will be re-applying a new connection then?

I don't want to suspend the account as believe with their efficiency, for all i know my account line will still remain active and for me being charged for two months of not actually using their services.

Do PM me as well if anyone has had the same experience and worked out a solution..

Thanks in advance guys.

I am using VIP10 as well and recently i've noticed random Ping Spikes (i just tested ping to google.com only) and this ping reaches as high as 2k.. On average my ping to google doesn't even exceed 20. Note that this has occurred on several occasions and i can be 90% sure that nothing within my local-area-network is causing this.

Slow access on youtube. Feels like back to Streamyx.

A week ago was fine. Change DNS back to TM still the same. OpenDNS, GoogleDNS all the same.

The default superuser account login is:
username: operator
password: h566UniFi

However, vlans are not web-interface-configurable, even with the operator account. They can be configured via telnet or SSH.

What are you trying to achieve?

somebody had issue with some youtube video.
some video slow to load or not loaded, some are ok...

don't know youtube change their route or new server or else.
but this is what i found, before this youtube streaming will use url contains *.c.youtube.com*, but today i found it use url contain *.googlevideo.com*

i'm system admin at xxx company, so i use live monitoring at server that can show every single link load by every client, so i know before this if i block url contains *.c.youtube.com* all youtube streaming will not loaded (only main site of youtube.com will loaded but not the streaming).

but today, i found that some youtube video streaming loaded with new url contains *.googlevideo.com*

sorry if my information is nothing to do with slow youtube streaming facing by some of us, i just share what i know (that maybe somebody already know it long time ago before me)

Downgrade is free if contract is over. Your bill will stay that price until the next bill cycle.

I have few Unifi accounts under my name. Yesterday got 4 SMS from Unifi stated on the 6th NOV 2013 - 10th NOV 2013, Unifi will have a major maintenance at "Sungai Buloh, Kota Damansara, Shah Alam & Petaling Jaya" or nearby area from 9.00PM to 6.00AM. I'm sure many people will rant on that date biggrin.gif

5Mbps UniFi might be a better option you have 5Mbps upload speed as opposed to 512Kbps on Streamyx. Allows you to seed and probably backup a lot of things to the Cloud/Dropbox

now i'm using FTTH and moving to a landed house,so i bet it will be FTTH aswell
question is, what do i need to bring to the new house ? just the optical modem, router and stb right ? how about the in-house cables ? do i need to bring them aswell ? at least can save few bucks without asking them to pull out new cables.lol

p/s : glad to know that Unifi relocation is free now.

hi, im looking for a replacement router for unifi vip10...

DIR-615's wireless just seriously screwed up. Last time I still can get 1 or 2 bars down there now it has no signal or a bar. Not only that, even if you have wifi, it wont work. WTF.

Make report and complaint to MCMC and make Police report.
Cause they throttled your torrent when they promised you not to!
Anyways mine is not throttled, maybe you should try playing around the settings?

Bro, torrent speed depends on a lot of variable eg. speed of your seeders, where they are etc... You can't expect the D/L speed to be max.

When I download torrent, some can go as high as 2Mbps but most are below 1Mbps...

Probably because you download an old file.. not many people wants to seed it anymore.. You should try with a latest file release that got hundreds of seeders..

Only if you subscribe to the MegaPack or SportsPack for RM50, you get VIP10 for RM149 or VIP20 for RM199 under this deal. Unless you really need to subscribe all these TV channels, the previous deal of RM169 for VIP10 or RM219 for VIP20 is still worth it, especially if you hardly watch TV.

5Mbps = 640kBps
10Mbps = 1280kBps , not two 2mb
