Source and update.zip file

Firmware Websites:
http://www.samfirmware.com/apps/auth/login...OTECT-i9000.htm
You need to register and log in to access the firmwares

Odin3 software and .PIT file
http://www.samfirmware.com/apps/auth/login...OTECT-i9000.htm

How to flash new firmware:
You’ll need the following to flash the phone:
- ODIN 3 version 1.0 (flash program)
- .PIT file (the boot file of the phone)
- USB cable

1. Make sure you have Odin3 and the firmware ready.
2. Turn off your phone and take out/remove any memory card and sim card.
3. Go to Download Mode by holding/pressing Volume Down+Home Button + Power Button until the screen show up Download Mode with Android logo in working like this
user posted image
4. Open Odin3 at your pc and plug the micro USB from you pc to your phone.
5. It will detect your USB and show your USB port number with yellow background(COM7) like this(ignore the Message):
user posted image
6. Make sure you place all the firmware files(PDA,CSC,MODEM) and .pit files into Odin3
PDA = CODE
MODEM = PHONE
CSC = CSC
You can download the .pit files from Samsung-Firmware website too..
7. Click Start and the flash will be in progressing..
8. After finished, your phone will be reboot(take some time) and you have successfully flashed your phone.

DXJG4 Firmware
http://www.multiupload.com/4EQOPSH2P6

You need 7z to unzip.
There are 4 files in it; the CODE, MODEM, CSC and PIT513 file.
There is no necessity to put the MODEM into phone and CSC into the csc of Odin3, because CODE tar file already included these 2 items.
Please use PIT513, with Re-partition checked.
If you use PIT512, it will fail.
P/S: Swype contains bahasa indonesia and melayu. useful for our malay friends.
Locale we have english us and uk, bahasa indonesia, melayu, tieng viet, thai, koren and mandarin. would be useful for those who knows viet and thai.

you can change the text input at the setting, at homescreen press menu button, setting > locale and text > select locale. that will solve the text input,
korean apps, you cant change anything there, cause it already made in korean, maybe you can uninstall it, korean ringtones, nothing can be done also, but you can use your own mp3

sorry for the noob question.. blush.gif

My SGS still stock firmware, never flash, just rooted.
I connect my phone to PC and run Kies, it show new firmware ready to update.
My question:-

1) Is this official firmware?
2) safe to update?
3) My data all wipe? If update the firmware
4) Any benefit after update to this firmware?
5) This is not Froyo 2.2 firmware right?

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Backup to be safe, because it's likely you will end up wiping to obtain full usability
4) Depends on what firmware version it happens to be

Do you need to save just the apps? Or all the data including how your home screen looks?

I suggest only to do backup of apps with market link.

On hindsight, I use appbrain now and not titanium backup anymore because I end up having to add back widgets again. All I do now to save time is to use shootme to get images of all my home screens and then redo them again. Saves time I find.

SMS/MMS can use titanium, there are other apps in market that can help you do that too.
Contact list -> I exported my contact to .vcf and imported it to google, now I use google to maintain my contact list so no worries whatever happens

notification bar is the top bar on android systems, pull down for full list view if there are many notifications of the same kind
SMS/MMS can use titanium, there are other apps in market that can help you do that too.
Contact list -> I exported my contact to .vcf and imported it to google, now I use google to maintain my contact list so no worries whatever happens
*
Can you turn on and off your notification settings from that notification bar?
Is the push notifications on the SGS reliable and fast? Have you guys encountered notifications which come in late? Or do they normally come in to your phone promptly?

Hi guys,

Need some help here.

When I tried to install Vlingo 1.6 from Market, I get an error message that says "Insufficient Storage Available".

I tried googling this problem online but in vain.

Anyone know what could be the problem?
My internal SD card has > 13GB free space and my external MIcrosd card has > 14GB free space. So, why insufficient storage available?

Notifications are app dependent. Apps which have notification usually have a setting that allows you to turn it off.

Push notification again is also app dependent, I have no issues with the notifications at all, it comes in when whatever I'm supposed to receive comes in. I hope this answers your question.

To turn off 3G, select use 2G network only.

3G is always an option, 2G is the fallback.

Just now, as I was unplugging my charger, I accidentally swiped the screen and a pop-up menu appeared. On the menu there are several options: Edit Dock Settings, Launch Shortcuts and a few others. Can't recall edi.

After I exited the menu, no matter how I swipe, I can't get that pop-up menu to appear again!

Anyone knows how to get that?

I'm using LauncherPro. Thanks!

Nope, it's not the LauncherPro settings or the add widget/wallpaper/folder menu. This is the first time I came across this pop-up menu also. Very curious!

Edit: Oooh! I know edi, just hold the finger on the dock, then the menu will pop up biggrin.gif Haha!

Its called mVideoPlayer.

Here are some key features of "mVideoPlayer":

· Subtitle support(.srt)
· Remembers exit position for each video
· Oncreen information: Time, Battery Status, Elapsed Time
· Gestures, seek back/forward
· Trackball support, seek back/forward
· Key Lock, prevents you from accidently paus, seek or exit
· Delete, Rename Videos + Subtitles
· Subtitle Search - Directly from application
· Download subtitles from SubtitleSource.org fast and easy without leaving the application
· IMDb info scraper to view movie information from Imdb.com

I guess it supports whatever native video player support. I'm running a divx movie with subtitles and it works fine.

There are loads of Asian videos in RMVB format, e.g. Taiwanese gameshows. BTW, Rockplayer plays RMVB. And very well too, on my Galaxy S. It's a pity though that Rockplayer does not support GPU acceleration - battery consumption is higher and does not play MKVs smoothly like the the built in video player app.

Exactly, most of the movies I get are in rmvb format.
I m also using Rockplayer now.
Just wondering does it have a volume control? Every time I need to change the volume, I have to go out to the setting to change the volume. There is no volume control in the video player??

Hmm, the same questions keep coming back. If your phone is rooted, you can use Titanium Backup (free version available) to backup your phone. I think MyBackup Pro (not free app) can backup non-rooted phones too.

If you don't know what 'root' means, please check the FAQs on the first page.

Other than that, I know there are some specific backup apps to backup your Web bookmarks, APNs, SMS, Call Logs - I have tried BookmarkSB, APN Backup & Restore, SMS Backup & Restore and Call Logs Backup & Restore. You can find these apps on the Android Market.

For phone contacts and calendar, you can sync them with your Google account. Go to Settings / Accounts and Sync on your phone to add your Google account and enable sync. Try it, it's fairly easy..

Easiest way to root is by downloading One Click Lagfix on Android market. The app has an option to root your phone, and unroot it.

just applied it..
i can say this SP is worth the price!!
it can't tell is there any SP on the screen...no fingerprint at the screen FOR NOW..(i check back to see is it the SP really on my screen lol)
nice package and handling to prevent the SP getting bent(rare case though)
just a bit hard to swipe around but it will back to normal after a bit of usage...
the brightness and clarity still remain the same..
suitable with my oily face

really happy with it thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

here is the link if u interested(which i think the cheapest i can find)

Quality wise cannot compare.
The cutouts on the SGP are perfect, whereas the DCmugen one isn't and doesn't seem so refined.

I still haven't used my oleophobic ones from SGP yet, I'm using the one that came with the SGP case I got. Which is the ultra clear.

No scratches thus far as I can tell. And very very clear. As good as not having anything on in terms of visual clarity.

cutouts meaning the holes for earspeaker and the home button.

I suppose cutouts is a very normal term to use for screen protectors, do a bit of reading?

well, about visibility. do you know any SP that are clear type but at the same type anti-fingerprints or oil resistant?
does SGP oleophobic fits with all of that criteria?

SGP oleophobic works well in this respect. It's clear and it's oil repellent to a certain extent.
And for the minfreemanager - don't thank me, credit the app creator. I merely found the values that worked well for me on the SGS.

akmarizam - someone selling casemate + screen protector for RM90 delivered in lowyat classified.
I will buy from him once my case gone case. lol smile.gif

akira - we need to see implementation and whether battery life can reach the SGS in terms of similar usage.

I bought my SP from Digital Mall, Petaling Jaya for RM15. It does the basic function but doesn't at all match the elegance of the phone. Better get a quality one from ebay. Accessories for SGS in Malaysia are crap and too few choices.

Can always get the bigger battery just like for SGS--3000mAh. See below video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mks7ubUi6Ik

The size is 2~3 times bigger.

Got to change the backcover. Think the back cover comes with the battery purchase, too. ;-)

clear type + anti-fingerprint?how i wish biggrin.gif
but too bad it doesnt exist..if u want anti-fingerprint then u need sacrifice clarity and vice versa...
but whats the point having super amoled screen if using anti-fingerprint which is matte SP that reduce clarity of the screen right?

Not necessarily, it depends on how they integrate the whole package. Tegra 2 on the toshiba folio looks like fail :s no market access, lowish resolution, kinda sad battery capacity. But then again, we'd have to see the final product.

Hi,

I understand that if we root the SGS with OCLF, the phone warranty is voided, right? But, I'm curious, aren't you guys concern about the warranty? I mean, what if the phone really got hardware problem few months later and no warranty?

Or is there a way to unroot the phone easily so that technicians in Samsung will not know that you had rooted the phone before?

I'm interested to root the phone with OCLF but worried about warranty issue...

Yes I know. But even after I exit the GPS, it is still consuming battery power when I check on the battery use in settings. I think this is a bug in android software. Anyone can confirm this?

Added on September 8, 2010, 10:12 amI found a thread about this GPS draining battery issue... Very similar to my problem. I need to restart my SGS in order to clear away the GPS software from draining my battery.

hey guys.
I love this phone.
but I've some problem with the Vingo app that's included in the phone.
After I launch it for the first time. the 2nd time when I launch it, it requires me to enter activation code. when i click the button, it goes in to a page but later on it just shows unable to access the page.

So how do I activate it?

thanks.

check your battery history, i bet not the android system. i have the same problem of serious drain make the phone just last a day and found out that some software keep the phone from going to sleep.

also, i do note that the papago stand a significant amount of battery consumption in percentage even after i close it. not sure why but on battery consumption wise, not seeing an impact

downloading Vlingo from market place.
seems like it works this time. Vlingo came with samsung phone must be the version requires activation before Vlingo goes free because of Google voice. they discontinued the activation page that's why.

btw, does anyone know what kinda stand I can buy for this phone?
i'm interested to put a stand in the car that I use it as a charging point and also as a convenient place to use my phone as GPS device.

just do a search about the rom. all came out in mandarin. can explain a bit about what this rom?

most of us here use Titanium backup. just search for it in your Market app. titanium can almost backup everything.
u may also have a look at MyBackup Pro but it a paid apps.
i never use kies as my backup software, so i have no idea what it does.
for backing up contacts & calendar data i would suggest u sync it your google account. everything will setup wirelessly.

I'm using mainly chinese for all of my pc, phone and etc. reason for that is because my wife is from China. she has got trouble with gadgets in english language. Took me a long time to get used to it.

此版ROM特性:
基于最新欧版正式版2.2固件的I9000XXJPC制作,刷机工具直刷即可;(made with Europe version of android 2.2 firmware I9000XXJPC. would work by flashing the phone direcly)
添加简体中文和繁体中文; (added simplified and traditional chinese)
开机默认简体中文,+8时区; (start up default under simplified chinese +8 time zone)
添加系统加速,如果插入带ext2分区的sd卡,可以开启加速功能,详情见下文; (in order to speed up the system, Please format the SD card to ext2 file system. This would ultmately speed up the device)
添加国内的自动apn设置,无需手动输入;(added APN for chinese carrier, no need for manual input)
联系人的侧边字母索引条可以拼音检索了;(Contact search would works with pinyin)
刷完即带root,无需再刷root(自带最新版超级用户V2.3.4); (not required to root the device as it's rooted by default)
电子收成可以显示收费软件,并且修复了一处中文错误; (market place has got access to paid area by default)
地图基于4.4.0版修改,支持导航、Buzz、纵横,已校正漂移; (map based on 4.4.0 modification, support GPS nav, buzz, GPS fix and etc)
加入谷歌连接助手,无法连接谷歌服务时可以帮助连接;(included google connection assistant)
添加程序安装,安卓市场,智能拨号;(added app installer, android market, intellegent dail)
支持Flash播放; (flash support)
按住返回键+Home键即可进行截图(具体看视频); (hold back + home button for screen grab)
桌面以及程序列表均可进行触摸缩略查看(具体看视频); (pinch for desktop view expose style in HTC)
可支持做datato2G (support datato2g)

This is all I can translate.
I think the pinch for desktop view expose style in HTC is great.

I had the same problem. Since I can't activate it, I went to delete the application. Then I wanted to reinstall the Vlingo again from Samsung Apps but it doesn't allow me to...it keep saying "Application Not Installed"....

Then I went to the Market to download the latest Vlingo version 1.6, but after downloading, it failed to install giving me an error message "Insufficient Storage Available"....

I'm still at a lost on how to solve this problem. I posted this problem in this thread before but looks like nobody has encounter this or able to give a suggestion on how to resolve it....I tried googling online but to no avail.

If you can find a solution, please share.

Check your Internal Phone Storage. For Eclair, it will install there instead of Internal/External SD Card.

Hi sifus,

If I go to Settings, Privacy, Factory data reset. Will my phone be reset to current JG 4 firmware or to JF 4 when I first bought the phone? I think I have messed up on the vlingo installation and would like to clean up the phone to start all over again. Will factory data reset help me to start all over? Thanks

I think the pinch for desktop view expose style in HTC is great.

Pinch for preview screens is built into TW3 for 2.2 I suspect. So that's a great improvement over the current one.

Reflash isn't necessary, a factory reset probably is.

Added on September 8, 2010, 9:18 pmAnyway if you have titanium backup you can restore that particular app.

hey guys.
here's a good tip on power saving.
http://phandroid.com/2010/06/30/black-pixe...s-battery-life/
using black background can save battery apparently.
i've tried it on mine. seems to be running less hot compare to before.

This is what i've done.
I back up all those apps that i want to remove.
Then i uninstall those apps.
Then i reset my phone.
Got an error related to google (google app i think)
I ignore, continue using phone.
Then, i want to update some apps.
Stuck at "starting download"
After that, i restore those apps that i uninstalled.
Reset.
Still got that error.
I think what i'm going to do now is wait for official froyo.
Thanks anyway.

Would like to share my experience using the SGS with Digi Network....

I was on holiday, driving frm Klang to Kuala Terengganu and then by ferry to Pulau Redang.

1. When i left Klang at night, it was raining, thus the GPS cannot lock on the sats. No issue abt that. Maybe bcoz of heavy cloud cover.

2. Abt 20km from KT town, GPS got a lock. Using Google Maps brut edition, works very well.

3. On ferry, half way to the island, Digi Network, got full bar on phone signal. Internet is Edge and then drop to GPRS. So, still can post to facebook! smile.gif

4. On the island, access to internet is via GPRS slow but usable. GPS is ok. not a issue.

5. On the way back from KT town to Klang, GPS is online 99% of the time. Did hv a signal loss abt 6 times but got a relock few minutes later. Internet access is mostly Edge.

Now, who ever says that Digi coverage is bad??? : whistling.gif

With the experience i had on Digi Network, i can say it's the best there is in the market. If the area u are at has 3G, u get 3G, if not, HSPDA, if not Edge and lastly GPRS!!

On the island, i can still surf the net but of course slow. Good for checking yr emails, and post to facebook.

Updated the stock firmware to DXJG4 thru samsung kies but seems like the stock firmware is better. Now sometimes when i exit an app, my live wallpaper will become black background with a small rectangle box of the live wallpaper only.

Thought wanna flash it but i scare will have -ve effect on my SGS.
What you all said about bricking the phone after flash means the hp cant be used if failed?

brick = cannot start

You can reflash always by entering download mode

Root your phone and follow my memory kill config guide, use my memory levels as a base and tweak to your liking. Those values work for me, but may not for you, so use as your discretion.

Hi, I have a question for those who are using Handcent SMS.

Whenever there is an incoming message, I get a pop up notification from Handcent SMS. After I read or reply the sms, and exit back to Home Screen, I noticed that the SMS Notication from the Stock Messaging software is still there. I need to clear it another time....so ended up always have to do double work clearing an incoming message.

Is there a way to disable the stock messaging software and just use Handcent sms?

I have posted before that I have problem installing Vlingo 1.6 from the Market. I get the error message "Insufficient Storage Available".

My Internal SD card is 13GB.

External SD card is 14GB.

My "Internal phone storage" is 1.65GB.

Is my Internal Phone Storage at 1.65GB consider low? What is the maximum available if i delete all applications?

For those who managed to install Vlingo, what is your Internal Phone Storage before installation?

Thanks

Just my opinion, Wave apps are limited by Samsung only... so, I feel you will be better off with the Galaxys S as the whole world is doing something about Android.... just MHO

just bring the warranty card to samsung mobile. I accompanied a friend of mine going to Samsung Mobile center at Plaza Berjaya 2 months ago for a S-AMOLED replacement. He was told that you dont need to post the warranty card, just bring it there and if im not mistaken, my friend was instructed by the girl to fill in a form there before handing in his phone. And bring in your maxis receipt too which u obtained upon the purchase

Works for me, vlingo, so I can't comment on the installation part.
I just downloaded the apk from market and it installed, no issues.

Side note: the samsung apps one installed and worked, but on 2nd open required an activation code. So i uninstalled and got the market version.

my SGS battery suck major balls.. i think the battery not optimum yet, how ar? 3 days old, charged 3 times so far.. oh yeah, why i keep connecting to edge when i have 3g coverage? i check my setting i did not select connect to 2G networks only.

my connection icon doesnt show 3G.. it shows H instead..user manual never say what is H..only G=GPRS, E=Edge, 3G=3G.. apa H ini..

H is HSDPA, faster than 3G.
Read a little? It's inside the user manual or from online sources.

How have you been using the phone? You can check battery statistics inside settings.

No GPS problem for me, I think it's mainly for the US people.
Papago - follow their website instructions. You need to copy a folder into ur internal SD card to get it working. The app is just a launcher for the actual program.

Hey guys, I know you all have been discussing about the FW and root but i still couldnt really understand. Sorry ya, android is totally new for me.
Will appreciate if you all can help me with this.

I wish to flash my SGS to a new FW, so I should root my SGS first then only flash it rite? If i use adb, my data & programs wont be deleted? adb=android debug bridge?

What FW do you recommend?

p/s: i spent my whole week to finish V2, worry that by the time i finish v3, u all at v5 d...so decided to skip v3 and join you all now.

I've purchased and just took receipt of these batteries from ebay and I'm currently using the first one after charging the 2 batteries (total RM49 worth the price). So far the battery do work, but whether they're as good as the original one will only know after a few more charge cycles.

So far quite happy with the purchase and relieved to know that I won't run out of batteries now smile.gif. I just ensure that I have one fully charged one with me in case need to use it.

For those who are interested, the link is included below.

I tend to agree with you. IMHO, it is a waste of money just to have the bragging rights that you own the most advanced phone tongue.gif. If the OS is not optimized to harness this extra power or there's no software that can claim to be able to utlize the new features, what's the point then?

End up you have the fastest smartphone in the world but only use it to make phone calls and occasional PIM and some other light stuffs. If the OS can keep up and there's applications like multimedia and games that can extract the power of the hardware and most importantly the price is not over-the-roof, then it is worth considering.

Hi,

I had downloaded One Click Lag Fix from android market.
Ran the root function from the app, and it instructed me to go into recovery mode.

When I try to go into the recovery mode, no matter how many times I tried, my phone keep starts normally.
Can't go in the recovery mode.

I'd try all the below:

A) Vol. Up + Home + Power, release when first Samsung logo appear

B) Vol. Up + Home + Power, Keep holding it throughout

C) Vol. Up + Home + Power, release Power button only when first Samsung logo appear

And many more combinations, which still doesn’t work.

When I search the internet, I realised a number of people cant get into recovery mode as well but no one seems to know the reason.

Any Sifu can help me?

My phone are supposed to be locked to O2 (UK provider) and Im in UK.

Many thanks.

well,we never knows...
like PC why we need quad core, dual core, etc?

if there is fast processor around, devs will take this chance to create an app or others to make sure it optimized the processor and gain more improvement

For me to enter recovery, I do neither of the 3 methods that was pointed out.

This is what I need to do to enter recover.

Vol up + home + power on, once samsung logo etc comes on, Release power button for 1 second, then press power again.

recovery mode pops up in 3 seconds.

Doing any of the 3 combination pointed out for me doesn't work. Mine is one of the earlier batches that got stock JF4

Well, I suppose it should, because it seemed like they got past it in the galaxy tab. So no reason for them not to have it optimised for the SGS.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Btw, If I had run the OCLF app half way but can't get into recovery mode,
does it mean i had not root my phone?

can i just uninstall the app and do nothing, the phone should be as good as un-rooted one?

Cheers

I can't help you with that, I did lagfix via batch file on PC.

What you can do is try removing your battery and put it back in and try going to recovery mode again.

You need to hold all 3 buttons until the Galaxy S screen pops up, then release only the on/off button for 0.5 of a second. Just lift your finger and hold it back again.

Try it a few times. Hopefully it will work for you.

Read a little? It's inside the user manual or from online sources.

How have you been using the phone? You can check battery statistics inside settings.

So I have a 3G icon on top after activating internet service... and it is still there after I stopped using the internet... Just that it turns gray, that means it's not data roaming/wasting my money right?

P/S: I still see it blinking once in a while, just not on all the time.... and APNDroid is useless, can't even turn it off, I've also disabled the data roaming option in Mobile Network... I can still connect with 3g sweat.gif

No, as in, once you put the APN onoff widget, APN is ON.
Press it and it goes OFF.
Then if you want to use, press it and it goes ON again.

If you want to uninstall it, make sure it is ON.

What firmware are you on?
JF4 seems to have problems with APN onoff, APNdroid, APNonoff and etc with name changing APN apps.

I got kinda confused on these 3G stuff since I barely use such service...

Just now I suddenly feel like using 3G so I checked out Digi website and did an online activation... Digi then just sent an configuration message to me with tons of code(did not ask me to save setting or anything, I just received it like normal message) and right after that the blue 3G icon appeared... I didn't even have any APN on the list(I'm sure)

Then I started to wonder, what's APN for? I went on to add APN according to first page DiGi APN info and right after that the 3G icon just disappeared in few seconds

Whatever they sent you was to configure the APN (access point name).

The APN onoff , is used to turn on/off the data connection, so your phone won't 'accidentally' send out or receive data.

It is a local service with nothing to do with digi or any other carrier.

Go to samfirmware.com, register for a free account. And you can see the multitude of firmwares available for the SGS.

Your firmware is updated for our region. It doesn't mean it's the latest firmware available.

And also, they release the most stable and tested to work firmware over kies.

But 'latest' often includes beta releases.

I know they sent me APN setting, the thing is, I can't see any on the APN list when I check it and that time, the 3G is already working fine

Here comes the weird thing, how did 3G work without APN on the list?

Means you don't have data connection yet.
It just latch on to 3G network so you can make calls on the 3G network.

Enter the APN setting as listed from page 1 into your APN list.

Does the APN On/Off turn off internet except wifi completely? Means that you cannot go surf the net when it shows OFF?

I tried APNdroid and APN Onoff but even when I set these two to off, when I use something that needs the internet the 3G still runs

wifi is separate from data connection.

Wifi on will cut off the data connection.

Only use 1, either APN droid or apn onoff, don't use both.

I'm not using both. I mean both didn't work out for me.

When if switch off 3G with either of them, it will still work when I go use internet-related application/market... Is it supposed to work that way?

Or when it's switched off, then you won't be able to use it for whatever purpose already?

I would like to ask all of you samsung owners out there 1 question.

Why did samsung name this phone Galaxy S???

Pls answer me properly, dun play play.

I want to know. Noone says anything about it.

I know blackberry torch is named torch because of a remembrance for the torch company acquisition by blackberry
*
It's just a brand name, why don't you email their marketing communications department and ask why they decided on the Galaxy brand instead of something else. No one outside of samsung will know their exact marketing communications means.

If you want to forget about the brand, the actual model number is I9000.

No, it is not supposed to work that way, off means off.

Turn off your wifi if you are on wifi and try again.

There was a previous Galaxy model (maybe more than 1 model) by Samsung. So this is the 'Super' of the Galaxy product line, maybe.

Is this for some marketing subject you're taking in college? Because if you are, you're better off doing some actual research on the subject via visiting their website and linking it to marketing theory. Rather than asking here.

Btw to your PM - check their website, there is a contact us button, click that, have a read, and follow instructions.

You don't really need to contact them regarding why they choose such a name anyway. Just link it to marketing theory. Whatever their strategic marketing decisions may be, their current naming strategy reflects that. Just infer and do some academic background work.
No real right or wrong answer as long as you have theory to back you up.

Anyway, this isn't the right place to ask. Probably better to ask in kopitiam or something under a general heading like marketing. And not restrict yourself to just this particular brand.

There are many other brands that follow similar naming patterns.

don quite under this from xda thread ..

Notes on V1+

You may see a delayed splash screen on boot. This is because the EXT2 filesystem is being checked at this point.
Quadrant scores should be around 2100.
Use the included uninstall option before applying an OTA update, or updating using Kies. Updates using Odin will overwrite the lagfix.
You do not need to reinstall this lagfix when the app is updated. The version on the V1+ lagfix itself has not changed. You will only need to reinstall for V2 or other changes. Coming soon.
means uninstall the OCLF but do not remove the v1 lagfix? ... sorry for the noob question

You can try calibrating the battery by doing the following:

Prerequisite:
Clockworkmod Recovery installed.

1) With your phone on, get your battery charged to 100%.
2) Unplug the charger and turn off your phone.
3) Plug in the charger and have it charged to 100%.
4) Boot into recovery mode -> reinstall package -> advanced -> wipe battery stats.
5) Reboot your phone and continue using.

My phone battery improved A LOT after doing this.

Charge your battery when it's about 30-50%... discharging it fully harms the Lithium-Ion battery. Discharge it fully only once every 30 charge cycles or if you don't wanna do that, you can just boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.

Nope.. you don't need Clockworkmod Recovery for that. What you need just Root and Terminal Emulator.

The steps I've taken:-
1) Using Terminal Emulator, remove the /data/system/batterystats.bin
2) Turn off the phone and charge till full (the battery symbol fully green)
3) Turn on the phone and charge till 100% full.

And yes, the result is good. I still have half of battery after 1 and 1/2 day usage include about 45 minutes Papago GPS and normal network, facebook and game.

I decide to do this when I feel after a while, my battery life become shorter. Seems like this is a known issue for Android since the above steps I get for G1 phone.

XXX other lagfix  is running, what should I do?

Voodoo lagfix is a very clean solution but work currently only for Eclair/Android 2.1 builds. If you use it, you’ll need to uninstall your previous lagfix before installing Voodoo. Hopefully, the uninstallation procedure is explained in it’s documentation.

Hotmail account was perfect using the built in "Email" apps. Although it require syncing, it's very close to a true push email notification service like those on blackberry. Set up is a breeze and i configure mine to check for new e-mail every one hour. You can reduce to as low as 5mins interval thought but i feel that it will be wasting too much battery to keep syncing.

I have a few quetions,
1. Can this phone read microsoft word attachments, and powerpoint attachments from emails? Also, can you edit it on your phone?

2. When you have a new comment from fb, or a new tweet, or a new IM from msn, do you have to go into the app itself to see the new notification, or will the notification automatically appear in the notification bar?

3. And lastly, can you put up a full facebook widget on the TW UI, instead of the semi facebook widget?

I have a few quetions,
1. Can this phone read microsoft word attachments, and powerpoint attachments from emails? Also, can you edit it on your phone?

2. When you have a new comment from fb, or a new tweet, or a new IM from msn, do you have to go into the app itself to see the new notification, or will the notification automatically appear in the notification bar?

3. And lastly, can you put up a full facebook widget on the TW UI, instead of the semi facebook widget?
*
1) Yes, read and edit using the office suite equivalent.

2) IM notification depends on the app - trillian allows, so does ebuddy. I prefer trillian. FB or tweet - No

3) FB or twitter, samsung has a built in widget called feeds and updates, u can choose FB or tweeter or both to be included.

So meaning, for fb and tweets, you have to constanly check the app for new notifications?

It's fed to you if you want it to, but it won't appear at the notification bar. It'll appear at the widget.

I'm thinking. To root or not to root. I want to root because there are some application I want to use requires root. Even time synchronization need root.

I kinda confirmed that the recovery/download mode is disabled. Symptoms are exactly as mentioned in xda-developers.

Before OCLF, Facebook for Samsung was a good alternative since it was lagging when you swype in Android Facebook. But I no longer experienced that after lag fix. So now, Android version seems better due to the sharing embedded (you can chose pictures then share without going into FB first) and you can Like items.

Did Voodoo Lagfix beta 2(rooted phone),without any issue, instruction was very straight forward.

Quadrant shows 1.7k now instead of insane 2k score.

The lag faced when installing an app can still be felt but very minimal compared to OCLF.

also notice GPS is can lock on much faster too

Nope.. you don't need Clockworkmod Recovery for that.

There are tons of way to remove the battstats.bin, I just use the more common way since I think almost everyone got Clockworkmod installed... and I think the real way should be charging the phone to full while it's ON first... Source: xda

Hey guys. Just joined the forum. I'm on JPC Froyo Firmware now. Wanted to ask a suggestion from you guys. I wanna try the Voodoo lagfix but I read it's good only on Eclair firmwares. I see that JM8 is the latest eclair firmware available. So the suggestion I need is, what's the best Eclair firmware that you guys have used and whether the really old update.zip rooting method on XDA would still work on the newer firmwares like JM7 and JM8?

I used JG5 before going to JPC and I know JG5 was easily rooted with the update.zip file on XDA (on the huge Galaxy S thread). Would appreciate any help.

I have the Singtel Galaxy S i9000.

HTC Desire doesn't have the front camera. so you can't make video calls....just fyi.

The ring tone is loud enough for me, in fact I set it to the lowest volume level....

Since I couldn't get into recovery mode to apply update.zip for rooting, I used ADB to reboot into recovery mode, then update. Fortunately it booted back as usual.

Now I can use my some of my favourite applications biggrin.gif

Hi sifus,

Need some advice on the the meaning of "rebooting" the SGS. Got 3 questions.

1) To reboot a phone, does it mean that I press the Volume Up, Home and Power button together. Then a menu will pop up and I can select an option call Reboot?

2) What is the difference between rebooting versus switching off and on the phone again?

3) Will rebooting wipe out all data like the Factory Data Reset function?

Thanks for your advice. Really appreciate it.

1. Both has multi touch but the GalaxyS has a better multi-touch compared to the desire i must say

2. Both phones have a decent speaker for notification and ringtones. Dont expect too much to make it as a beatbox like i did when i 1st got the desire. Previously i was using nokia 5800 Xpress Music. The GalaxyS and the Desire sounds just fine for notification and ringtones i must say blush.gif

Thanks for your quick reply.

Am I right to say we go into recovery mode only if we want to root the phone, install Lag Fix like OCLF and Voodoo, etc? and all these actions will void the phone warranty?

I read in Voodoo webpage that we can install Voodoo lagfix without rooting the phone? is it true? If yes, without rooting the phone but installing Voodoo lagfix will it void the warranty?

Thanks

by theory it will void the phone because you modify the phone using software that is not official.

But when you wan to claim warranty, you can always flash back your old firmware.

you guys should try this keyboard, no root needed, just install like normal .apk

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416

it is the htc keyboard, it so much better than samsung keyboard, if you dont use swype(cause of language) this is the best replacement

okay i a lil bit confius what are you trying to do now...

1.are you trying to install OCLF using update.zip? i never use JP2 before, but for JP3 and above you cant directly use update.zip from the recovery menu

2.if you are trying to root your JP2 using OCLF, then you are out of luck, cause it stated there only for 2.1 firmware

3.if you want to apply OCLF you need to have root firmware for it to be success, and in your case to root JP2 (this is only be proven by the old JP2 (europe) firmware, the new JP2 (HONGKONG) i dont know if can or not) i think you can use one click root software which can be find at XDA

##if i am mistaken at number 1 and JP2 can use update.zip from recovery, you need to rename the file you download at XDA to update.zip and put it in the internal storage folder not external

HI all SGS Sifu,

Some questions after installed Voodoo beta 3.0

1) Why the auto brightness detection is different with the original(before installed Voodoo).
It DIM down most of the time to minimum stage.

2) Will some app/widget not function? Because my NoLED app now not working. (Restart many time)

3) Do I still need to use Minfreemanager to adjust the memory? Or just use the stock from Voodoo?

My phone now is act faster I like it!! smile.gif
But with problems as mentioned at 1 & 2 sad.gif

1) this is a new feature of the voodoo fix, if you don't like, just don't use auto brightness, wait until he fix it in next beta

2) no prolems with all widgets and apps, but i didnt try NoLED

3) voodoo is just fix the filesystem, minfree manager cna free up some ram when needed

guys!

I've just installed Voodoo Lag fix beta3~!! it is fast like hell.

But i found out 1 of my app "got to do" become slow again after uninstalled OCLF and apply Voodoo.

so, I apply OCLF again after I apply VooDoo. It works!!! Now my SGS is super smooth. smile.gif

Anyone here tried this?

btw, there's a discussion on Xda about this also.

I bet you would have rebooted the phone within today. I think it's a bug with the task manager which Samsung should pick it up very soon. Then they should release another update. For now, I'll just use the task manager with disappeared buttons.
