Would like to share my experience using the SGS with Digi Network....

I was on holiday, driving frm Klang to Kuala Terengganu and then by ferry to Pulau Redang.

1. When i left Klang at night, it was raining, thus the GPS cannot lock on the sats. No issue abt that. Maybe bcoz of heavy cloud cover.

2. Abt 20km from KT town, GPS got a lock. Using Google Maps brut edition, works very well.

3. On ferry, half way to the island, Digi Network, got full bar on phone signal. Internet is Edge and then drop to GPRS. So, still can post to facebook! smile.gif

4. On the island, access to internet is via GPRS slow but usable. GPS is ok. not a issue.

5. On the way back from KT town to Klang, GPS is online 99% of the time. Did hv a signal loss abt 6 times but got a relock few minutes later. Internet access is mostly Edge.

Now, who ever says that Digi coverage is bad??? : whistling.gif

With the experience i had on Digi Network, i can say it's the best there is in the market. If the area u are at has 3G, u get 3G, if not, HSPDA, if not Edge and lastly GPRS!!

On the island, i can still surf the net but of course slow. Good for checking yr emails, and post to facebook.

if you want prepaid internet, isn't hotlink a better deal?

Hotlink broadband per week RM25, you get full speed and 2GB xfer.

If not mistaken, Digi is giving per week RM15!

Hi, I have a question for those who are using Handcent SMS.

Whenever there is an incoming message, I get a pop up notification from Handcent SMS. After I read or reply the sms, and exit back to Home Screen, I noticed that the SMS Notication from the Stock Messaging software is still there. I need to clear it another time....so ended up always have to do double work clearing an incoming message.

Is there a way to disable the stock messaging software and just use Handcent sms?
*
Yes, there is.

In the stock messaging go to Settings, Notifications, and disable it. smile.gif

Right... even my house and office have wifi, but I still think Data plan is a must especially when you go out shopping or raya. You must go out to other places instead office and home only rite..  hmm.gif  biggrin.gif

nice solution. But it will a bit crampy when you are in GPRS network and sharing with multiple user. 3G and EDGE should be ok I think.
*
I just dont understand why majority of u guys complained abt Digi's network coverage!!! tongue.gif

Asked yrself, how OFTEN will u be out of Digi's HSPDA/3G/Edge coverage area in 1 day? 1 week? 1 month? 1 qtr of the year, 6 months? 1 year?

I will tell u that u will be IN Digi's coverage 99.99% of the time!!

I was in Pulau Redang recently, i can upload my pics to facebook using GPRS!! Do i need HSPDA/3G/Edge to upload? If available, yah, why not. If no, i still can upload using GPRS!

I still can get in touch with my friends on email, facebook using GPRS.

Well, no youtube for u when using GPRS!

So, if u r 99.99% of the time IN Digi's HSPDA/3G/Edge coverage area, go for it.

Hi All,

Just to update u on my experience using the OEM batteries that is compatible with SGS.

Purchase from the supplier from HKG and batteries is working quite well.

Charged directly from the phone is OK. No issues at all! smile.gif

Only problem i has was the charger itself. It was a dead charger. BUT the Customer Service with 1 email only, is sending me a replacement battery charger! Now this i call Customer Service!! biggrin.gif

All i can say is, go ahead and buy the batteries as spare!

U can purchase the items here:

*
Just advice yr friend, "if u get iPhone, ALL the apps u get from iTunes need to pay $$$!! Average per app cost u USD0.99 which is abt RM3.30 per app!!

So the total cost of ownership of iPhone keeps on increasing!!

Whereas, when u get SGS, there's no extra cost involved for getting apps. UNLESS u wanna pay for the apps for better functionality, then by all means.

For me, i find that Android community has been churning out very good apps and i really love it. I hv even setup my SGS to do VPN into my office network and there are apps to do RDP and VNC to access the PCs/Servers from SGS!! biggrin.gif AND the cost for this.... RM0.00!!

hi guys, im planning to buy the galaxy s...however there are few concerns of mine that i need to ask the galaxy users here.

(1)so far hows the user experience, is it damn worth to buy this phone for its price?

(2) heard lot of pplz claim that samsung product usually dont last long, any feedback on galaxy s so far?

(3) also heard that the battery could easily drain, true?
p/s: apologize for these questions, they're only what I "heard" from others and just want to clarify with the users here smile.gif
*
1. YES

2. define 'LAST LONG'?? My last Samsung HP was a intelligent HP and it the HP has been faithfully functioning well WITHOUT ANY issues at all. Hv been using it for 5yrs b4 changing to SGS! tongue.gif

3. Aiyoh... the more u use, the faster the battery drain lah.... U play more games, drain faster lor... tongue.gif U use GPS, u drain faster lor.... My normal usage last me the entire day and some, ie. from 5am till 11pm and even longer with daily usage of Wifi, HSDPA, 3G, Edge n GPS.

To me, it was well worth the $$$. biggrin.gif

You sure?? it seems to take a long time to LOCK..

sometime fast sometime Long like hell..
and also abit inaccurate when i use it with papago.... with motonav it was more accurate but motonav maps outdated and hard to use...
*
Yes. Sometimes it locks fast or long. That is to be expected! It could be bcoz of thick cloud over yr area, etc etc. But once it got a lock, it locks and runs perfectly.

As for accuracy, 2 things u need to consider, 1 is the application. How good are they in doing the tracking. 2. The accuracy of the sat locks. Both of this play a important role.

For me, i use Brut GMap for my trips. After checking all the maps around, Google Maps is still the MOST updated routes u can find in the market.

If u hv internet access, use Brut Google Map.

How to get the above apps. Use Google Search pls... tongue.gif

B4 all of us purchase the SGS, we know that Samsung's reputation on updating the firmwares are slow or non existence at all. But all of us still go ahead and purchase the SGS!

Thus, to me, i dont think it is very productive to be angry and whining in this forum! U r just using unnecessary bandwidth!!

If u are angry and mad of Samsung delaying the updates, call Samsung Service Center or write a email to them or u can go meet up Uncle Micheal Chong!

No matter how many times you write and post here, Samsung will not read what u hv posted here.

So, my best advice is, report yr ISSUES with Samsung Service Center and they will give u a LOG # for the issues u reported! The more people report the same issues, then Samsung Engineers will concentrate on that issue to resolve them!

Can i hv a show of hand, HOW MANY OF U REPORTED THE ISSUE OF LAGGINESS AND GPS NOT LOCKING ON TO THE SATS?? None i supposed. To those who have, TQ very much! To those who have not and yet complains here, pls go ahead and report it with Samsung.

As for me, i made a informed choise b4 i purchase the SGS. I waited for 1.5 months to know more abt the hp. Then only i buy it.

I hv rooted the phone, upgrade the FW to DXJG4 and use OCLF. Uninstall OCLF and installed Voodoo 3.0 Lagfix.

I'm happy with the phone, i can call, sms, play games, facebook, surf the net, GPS (was travelling from Klang to Redang and back by car and the GPS was on the ENTIRE way with less that 10 times of drop sat signals), etc WITHOUT ANY ISSUE at all.

My question to all of u who are angry and whining abt the delay of Froyo released:-

Do u prefer a solid running OS for yr HP or bugs issues in the OS!! If u prefer bugs in the OS, go ahead and get the beta/leaked version of Froyo from Sams website and enjoy them.

All of us who are waiting patiently prefer to hv a solid OS with no issues at all.

Anyway, sorry for the long posting. It's just that i can see eye to eye with all the unnecessary postings here abt delay n delay n delay n delay!!

Bye now.

If u use Google Maps, u need to hv those ON right!! BUT i did tested out Navit 1month b4 i got my 3G line from Digi. Navit is a off-line GPS app and it works well!

i bet none really unhappy with the phone, but unhappy with they way Samsung treat their customers. and is it wrong to post the non satisfaction here? in a forum?
Get a lawyer to sue Samsung then! No point been unhappy and keep on b****ing about it. For me, im just giving Samsung a chance to bring out Froyo 2.2 which is stable with TouchWiz 3.0. Actually, Froyo is out from Samsung, it's just that it's a leaked version!! U want a official version of the Froyo, be patient abt it.

QUOTE(irenic @ Sep 23 2010, 11:31 AM)
we want info from Samsung on where they are right now. Do u get any official words from them on what they are doing? this is the biggest problem why people complaining!
Did u sent them a email to check to see when Froyo is coming out?? Take action if u want to know! Samsung's phone specs says that they sell u the phone WITH Android 2.1 not 2.2!! They sell u a proper product and they did not cheat u!

Update from 2.1 to 2.2 is the EXTRA customer service they are giving to their customers.

And again i say it, be patient!!

QUOTE(irenic @ Sep 23 2010, 11:31 AM)
it's a public place. u can choose what u want to read and what u dont. it's not we're writing it right at ur FB or website or blog or at ur wall house.
I just cant stand people trying to act like super duper ultra moderator.  cool2.gif
*
yes it's a public place where we SHARE our experiences abt SGS. We dont need people to share their anger and whining abt froyo been delayed! This is not sharing! All of us knows it's delayed! So let that be! Whining and be angry abt it will not make Samsung release Froyo today or tomorrow.

Hv u used GPS with Brut Google Maps/Google Maps? Google Maps require that u enable the 'Use Wireless Networks'. Check it yrself > Settings > Location & Security!

If u dont enable this, how r u going to download the maps and locate u??

I hv been using Brut Google Maps/Google Maps for my entire trip to east coast.

IF u dont use Google Maps/Brut Google Maps, then u dont need to enable Use Wireless Networks!!

Go check it out!!

i want to ask how is the performance of its GPS function?
is it lag? got charges from telco?
*
GPS hardware is OK.

Lag depends on the application. If the application is slow in updating yr location, sometimes u will overshoot the direction! Why...

1. The application is speaking in English and trying to pronounce in BM words into English. So, sometimes, it's hard to understand what the app is trying to say! tongue.gif LOL I hv this problem with Brut Google Maps trying to pronounce street names in Kuala Terengganu!!

2. Due to loss in Sat lock. Sometimes u will get this issue where suddenly u r on the main road, and then u find that the app is showing u a inner road! As the GPS loss a Sat lock, yr accuracy goes way off....

Charges from telco. Depends with Navigation App u used! For Brut Google Maps, u need 3G access. If u use Navit, u dont need 3G. Navit is a offline GPS app where the maps are all stored in yr SD card.

u go check it out.. smile.gif

enable gps satellites, and disable the use wireless network box.

the box once u tick is to fasten and helped u in determine the location. u dont have to enable it for google maps or brut maps to download maps. because google maps doesnt has map pre-installed so as long as ur phone connected to data network (be it G, E, 3G, H), it will automatically download the map.

and the good thing about Brut's is u can save the map cache on ur sd card.

the problem with SGS that most people is facing (luckily for this one, mine is okey) is when they dont tick the Use wireless networks box, it takes ages to wait for location when the google navigation opens.. if u have other android, u can compare and see how fast other android can begins the navigation..
With the Use Wireless Network on, it gives u a rough estimate of where u r so that u can get a bearing of the map. And when the Sats are lock, then u will get a accurate reading of yr map. My bad to say u need to ON this. Use Wireless Network is good if u want a fast and dirty solution of where u are currently.

Seems like Froyo works better with Snapdragon
*
If u r using STOCK Froyo, ie. the official release from Android, it will not be better.

The engineers tend to tweak / modify / add device drivers to make the OS run better for specific HP hardware. Once yr device is optimised for Snapdragon, then yes, the OS will run faster for the said CPU.

For example, u r using Windows XP on a machine which has 64bits CPU, WinXP will not be able to use the full features of the 64bits CPU. Same goes with apps, if the apps is build for 32bits capabilities, running on a 64bits CPU will not give u double the process speed. If yr apps is build for 64bits and runs on the 64bits CPU, u get the max features of the new CPU.

Thus, the engineers are Samsung needs to tweak the device drives for SGS on the 2.1 n 2.2. If u hv seen some of the releases from Sams website, every release is better then the previous. Give them time. The engineers will be coming out with a perfect device drivers for 2.1 n 2.2 and then compare it. It might take a few rounds of release for 2.2 to be stabled.

Papago no problem..because it uses true gps.. app that uses A-Gps is problem.. like foursquare, weather app, even google map when indoors.. but if uses real GPS(outdoor satellite).. i have an accurate fix...
*
Actually, ALL GPS apps uses real GPS data. In SGS itself, u can enable "Use Wireless Network" together with GPS. This is A-GPS enabled. What the phone does is that it will get the cell tower long n lad data and feed it to the apps. When the phone locks on to sats, the phone will send the latest long n lad data to the app. And the app with update accordingly.

The A-GPS gives u a quick and dirty location b4 getting the actual locks from the sats.

For my phone, I don't have problem getting my initial position but navigation is near unusable. It will shoot off every corner, drift to nearby roads 80% of the time.

I just use it to read the maps and drive according to my memory.

Compared to my HTC Diamond in the aspect of GPS, it's garbage. Nevertheless, I'm still living well with its flaws.

I didnt hv the issue u were talking abt. I hv used the GPS in east coast driving all the way back from K. Terengganu to Klang without any issues.
