brick = cannot start

You can reflash always by entering download mode

Root your phone and follow my memory kill config guide, use my memory levels as a base and tweak to your liking. Those values work for me, but may not for you, so use as your discretion.

thanks alot!!! .. maybe can ask TS to put ur guide on post#1 for much easier viewing and no need to keep repost ..

*

QUOTE(kmrdeva @ Sep 11 2010, 05:02 PM)
thanks ...

i got one noob question .. how do i update? ... should i remove the current v1.6.0 1st then only apply update? .. or don remove/uninstall and just apply? ..

don quite under this from xda thread ..

QUOTE
Notes on V1+

You may see a delayed splash screen on boot. This is because the EXT2 filesystem is being checked at this point.
Quadrant scores should be around 2100.
Use the included uninstall option before applying an OTA update, or updating using Kies. Updates using Odin will overwrite the lagfix.
You do not need to reinstall this lagfix when the app is updated. The version on the V1+ lagfix itself has not changed. You will only need to reinstall for V2 or other changes. Coming soon.
means uninstall the OCLF but do not remove the v1 lagfix? ... sorry for the noob question

Got my Singtel SGS. Locked recovery mode. As usual, only ADB can get into recovery mode. Seems dangerous to flash anything until Samsung or some developers fix this issue.
*
mine also singtel set, but mine able to get into recovery mode, tried it when i install OCLF ... now planning to undo and then try voodoo LF, which one u all feel its better? i got 2170 quadrant score on OCLF ..

QUOTE(Jason @ Sep 13 2010, 12:06 AM)
OCLF? i just grab it off market.. very easy to use/do.
for the bros&sis using the steinhel oleophobic screen protector..after applying is it easy to swipe your fingers on the screen? i'm afraid its like the old glossy clear type which would be very sticky and hard to glide.. feedback please!
*
first few times will be kinda hard since its brand new, but once u got some skin/finger oil on it .. it is so smooth u don realize the sp is there .. thumbup.gif

The one that was on samsung apps required activation cause vlingo used to charge for the app. Now it's free.
Sad thing is that the app requires data/internet connection to work.
*
yea lo, i just got to know just now that it requires data connection .. should have read this thread 1st .. haha

QUOTE(mengsuan @ Sep 14 2010, 08:12 PM)
IF you happened to have a hard brick, showing a pic of phone--!-->PC, then you've ended up having a paper weight brick.

For those who have 3 button recovery disabled, even rooting poses significant risk.

I wish you good luck.

Added on September 14, 2010, 8:16 pm
I'm curious to know. Would Maxis or other Samsung dealer let you break the seal and honor return when the phone does not get into recovery mode? The rules are not clearly defined. You may have regarded a SGS without recovery mode as defective, but would Samsung consider that?

So far, only Samsung Canada responded on their Facebook fan page. The owner of the fan page is yet to be known; it could be false news. Samsung in all other countries, especially UK, have denied exchanging the phone.

In other words, I doubt someone can deliberately avoid getting a recovery-disabled SGS. Rather, it's a luck game.
*
1. agreed
2. if i am not wrong, some xda forumers from italy manage to exchange their 3btn disabled sgs for a new one ... read it yesterday, its either italy or spain coz they were writting in either spanish or italian ..

QUOTE(MYstombox @ Sep 14 2010, 08:56 PM)
If you brick it and can't even enter recovery. Just send it for warranty. Say it suddenly cannot start.

If they themselves can't even go into recovery mode, what makes you think they can check anything?
*
good point thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

QUOTE(emino @ Sep 14 2010, 10:17 PM)
Without data plan, I would say your experience with the phone will be crippled. Its still a good phone with great multimedia function, but, yeah...
*
nah, i don have a data plan .. doesnt seems much crippled but of course i got wifi here and there .. hahaha
i would depends on the user, if the user r always on a go and loves to check online stuff then data plan would be great ... if someone like me, if need data connection then just try find a place with wifi, u can easily spot those guys standing beside starbucks, etc laugh.gif XD

I didnt remove OCLF. But I remove EXT2. Keeping it for rooting my SGS coz I need to use Titanium BackUP.
Any issue so far using Voodoo?
*
Just remove the v1+ and ext2, then u can uninstall the oclf. just don't unroot, keep the root there so u can use titanium backup.
By reading reviews it seems to be doing very good, beta4 out? Anyone mind sharing out the link? Tq!

sigh... seem every body to bz with the phone problem not even answer my question.. maybe need to wait better PHONE like Nokia or SE!!  sad.gif

Lol, how u know nokia or se have better phone? By ur words u sound like a whining baby. Fyi, I choose phone by testing out myself and of course check each website that have info and reviews. U ask here, we also hard to answer, why? Becoz most here owns the sgs, asking for comments regarding another phone esp those not android is a problem for us as we don't know much too. Wat I suggest to u is check out gsmarena.com for specs, and get ur butt off the comp chair, go to some mobile shop and have a hands on test.
