Anyone here has a SGS with disabled recovery/download mode?

I'm getting mine today. Lets see if mine has disabled recovery or not. Hopefully not. Lol..

Got my Singtel SGS. Locked recovery mode. As usual, only ADB can get into recovery mode. Seems dangerous to flash anything until Samsung or some developers fix this issue.

Do you guys use Facebook for Samsung or generic Facebook App from Market?

What's short with the Facebook for Samsung?

I'm thinking. To root or not to root. I want to root because there are some application I want to use requires root. Even time synchronization need root.

I kinda confirmed that the recovery/download mode is disabled. Symptoms are exactly as mentioned in xda-developers.

I installed both Facebook. The Facebook S (Facebook for Samsung) has a little more features like publishing location etc.

XDA appears to be offline at this moment of writing.

Lucky you. My SGS can only enter recovery mode through ADB. I'm really hoping that someone or Samsung will release the fix soon. I'm not rooting yet because of this disabled recovery crap.

Since I couldn't get into recovery mode to apply update.zip for rooting, I used ADB to reboot into recovery mode, then update. Fortunately it booted back as usual.

Now I can use my some of my favourite applications

I believe OCLF includes the update.zip for rooting and superuser access.

o-wait, i'm not sure about JP3...

Same here. Is it something that we have done? Lol.. Can I force Samsung market to show all apps?

I bet you would have rebooted the phone within today. I think it's a bug with the task manager which Samsung should pick it up very soon. Then they should release another update. For now, I'll just use the task manager with disappeared buttons.

Many people wouldn't care about this but it's a delightful thing for me.

Anyone using Vlingo which is downloaded from Samsung Apps? I only manage to use it once, before it stopped working asking for activation. When I press enter activation code, internet opens and shows internal server error.

I want to know to. My current unit comes from Singtel and has product code of XSO. If I know the code for Maxis unit, I can change the phone's customization exactly to Malaysia set and receive updates similarly to Malaysians.

My way of knowing product code: *#272*HHMM# (HHMM is 24 hour format of the current time)

IF you happened to have a hard brick, showing a pic of phone--!-->PC, then you've ended up having a paper weight brick.

For those who have 3 button recovery disabled, even rooting poses significant risk.

Added on September 14, 2010, 8:16 pmI'm curious to know. Would Maxis or other Samsung dealer let you break the seal and honor return when the phone does not get into recovery mode? The rules are not clearly defined. You may have regarded a SGS without recovery mode as defective, but would Samsung consider that?

So far, only Samsung Canada responded on their Facebook fan page. The owner of the fan page is yet to be known; it could be false news. Samsung in all other countries, especially UK, have denied exchanging the phone.

In other words, I doubt someone can deliberately avoid getting a recovery-disabled SGS. Rather, it's a luck game.

You won't be able to flash when it bricks because the recovery mode is supposed to make it unbrick. Since ours don't have it, it remains as a brick.
