Boost in Finance section? I thought it will remain in /k because they don't want to move here? Anyway it's about time to have proper discussion here.

How about other popular e-wallets like Fave, GrabPay and TnG e-wallet? Somebody should open too, I think currently Boost, Fave, GrabPay, TnG and WeChat Pay are the popular ones in Malaysia.

For TnG related discussion, we have two running threads at the sub-section of Credit Card/Debit Card/Loyalty Card.
I think no value of opening another separate for TnG e-wallet.

Back to this topic, I haven't been using Boost for some time. Missing the 50% cash back deal.

Weirdly, Favepay merchants are reducing a little bit in KL, some merchants that used to accept Favepay stopped doing so.

Grabpay thread, so far there's none but wouldn't hurt to open one if anyone is passionate about it.

I asked fellow Boost users in that thread to share some opinions on whether to open a V2 in Finance section or not, quite a few agreed. so decided to do so. Sometimes the previous thread could get out of hand, people argue sometimes, abusers getting proud of themselves, and many more. Also, since there are two e wallet discussion threads in this section now, hope those who are interested will follow and open discussion threads for other e wallets as well.

iirc, hye did mention on ewallet TS to apply for topic creation. not sure the progress nowadays since few ewallet are getting off the ground with active discussions and promotions from emoney issuers.

e.g.

Boost, previously in /kopitiam, now in here
TNG eWallet, slowly taking traction, currently lightly discussed in TNG Card topic
WeChat MY, already in progress here
BigPay in CC thread, some see it as either ewallet or prepaid card
GrabPay, little to none discussion. Fave, not sure if it's even considered as ewallet at all

should mods/admin create subforum for all ewallet discussions or keep as individual ewallet topics; either in Finance subforum or in CC subforum

Was gonna tag hye but gotta wait for the TS from V1 to close his Boost thread first, but thanks anyways.

Also, BigPay is definitely not an e wallet, but more to a prepaid card issuer.

Favepay is more to mobile payment, but I guess can be related with e wallet cuz it's using similar kind of payment method by scanning the QR code, just that it deducts directly from our cards which is similar to Samsung Pay.

I'll try fully update the thread tonight, sorry if it looks rushed.

I just went to one 99 speedmart trying to use boost for payment. The manager was in the store but she asked “tak boleh guna cash me” in a somehow rude way. And I am still thinking that the cashier there has been trained now since it is already quite some time since 99speedmart is boosted

Yes, agreed to complain to Boost beramai-ramai and let Boost know about the "incompetence" of 99 Speedmart as a Boost merchant. Maybe Boost can arrange intensive training for them.

use fave-amex on weekends and fave-boost on weekdays

today i just used boost for Rm60 purchase in 11street. lousy shake reward at Rm1 ( equivalent to 1.67% cb). if not because of the Rm5 cb promo for Rm60 in 11street, i normally amex for confirmed 5% cb on weekend.

to include info about wallet topup/spending/withdrawal limit for standard and premium accounts, so that newbies can just refer to the 1st page and no need to ask so many times here.

for fave, all cb and refund money go automatically to ”my cashback” section, similar to lazada

Fave cash back is troublesome.
It has two types: general cash back and merchant specific cash back.

Sorry I misunderstood what car_computer said "use fave-amex on weekends and fave-boost on weekdays".
So it is buy Fave but pay with Amex on weekend n pay with Boost on weekdays.

there are differences between open-loop and close-loop mobile payment apps/systems.

those with close-loop is whereby the "money" and earned cashback/reward must be used for its own (merchant-specific). e.g. starbucks reward card. nobody called it ewallet. reason is you reload into it, use within sbux, and earn rewards within sbux too. you cannot use sbux credit for other things. iinm, fave and lazada wallet is the same. fave charge via cc passthrough. the new petronas setel app is the same too, can only use to pump at petronas, nothing else.

those truly ewallet is whereby it's open-loop, the credit/rewards can be used outside of its own domain/ecosystem. e.g. boost, tng ewallet, grabpay etc.

Caring pharmacy can also pay by boost now however seems that only 1 counter is able to process boost payment

Are they using smartphone or tablet?
If they're using CC terminal extension like GHL at Tesco, then more counters can support.

Caring Pharmacy is using Mpay terminal if I remember correctly.

ya... in the beginning i was very confused about fave cb and also favedeal vs favepay
through some mistakes made and frequent usages nowadays, i am rather familar with fave

favedeal cb goes to “fave cashback” section, which will be given after 3 days, and will be automatically used to offset next favedeal or favepay transaction.

favepay cb goes to “partner cashback” section instantly, which will be used for next purchase in the same specific merchant/brand (acceptable in different outlets, but must be under the same merchant brand ). partner cb is kinda useless if u dont go back to the same merchant.

i use fave-boost for weekdays and fave-amex for weekends to optimize cb

anyway off topic here. hope there is a dedicated fave thread to discuss favepay and favedeal, and also fave discount codes

Just used boost at pak kin pak san cafe. Almost can't use because said the payment terminal hang during peak hours. Afterwards tried again then ok.

Not sure if this is a boost problem because the credit card terminal also same issue.

Min RM50 for F&B is really crossing the line. If they aren't sincere in accepting Boost psyment, they shouldn't apply for Boost in the first place

That's just pathetic lol, but I remember that Boost is strict about merchants imposing a minimal amount for their payment service, looks like someone from Boost taught them a lesson.

It's illegal to impose a minimal amount for every payment methods anyways, if they still dare to do that for cards, it means that BNM is not strict enough.

Same thing applies to card payments, might as well just not accept any payment methods other than cash.

BNM needs to jack up their enforcement if they want their cashless roadmap and framework to be successful!

If users feel 'unpractical and troublesome' to spend maybe 5-15 minutes making a call or sending an email, then what you expect BNM to do? People prefer to complain on forum thread and at mamak store.

How to deal with minimum purchase amount for using cashless payment where the merchant do not even put up written notice but just in verbal? And it is almost impossible to request them to show their terminal for us to capture the details because they tend to hide it knowing that there are not supposed to impose minimum purchase amount.

I see, it is free until 31/12... no wonder can use Boost at many small shops even pasar malam stalls.
I guess many of them will terminate the service if they start charging

There are ways to 'obtain' evidence on conversations . Since they are already being unethical, playing fair will only end up with a dead end situation.. They know this and hence the abuse (you could say your actions are akin to white lies, with no intent to harm; though this isn't encouraged at all unless necessary).. But if the public don't do something about it the practice will remain.. At least we do our part, whether any further action by bnm or other relevant authorities, it's not in our hands.. Anyway, don't wish to further go O/T as this is a boost thread afterall..

You guys should try reporting then you will know how troublesome it is, there are many procedures that need to be done to make a final report.

It's not about the time, and it's not as easy as you think like simply making calls or sending emails.

The biggest problem is BNM requires an evidence, I get it and it's a must. But here's a scenario example, if you wanna buy something and pay by card, cashier refuses to accept it cuz it's below the minimum amount, and there's no sign whatsoever...

What do you expect an average Joe to do? You can't expect to purposely buy more until it reaches the amount just to pay by card and get the evidence right?

People will just keep complaining without reporting, because it's really a hassle to do it.

Boost should either charge a bit (probably 1%) or not make any changes.

Yes, in order to file a complaint, u need to have evidence, like I said if the cashier just verbally telling for minimum purchase amount required, we can't do much but only accept the faith as there is no written notice. Most we can do is request to talk to their manager or boss but this will embarrass ourselves and annoy ppl that queuing behind.

haha.. i also complained about naughty nuri to boost a few months ago during the 50% promo time
my bill was slightly below Rm20 but the staff said my spending didnt hit the minimum requirement to use boost as payment method. i argued with the staff and his supervisor. they allowed me to payment with boost in the end
