The Official TM UniFi High Speed Broadbrand Thread V3

The Official UniFi Website: http://www.unifi.my

F.A.Q

What is UniFi?
UniFi heralds a new age of digital lifestyle with a faster, richer and more reliable online experience. UniFi is a bundled triple play service offering High Speed Internet, HyppTV (IPTV) and Voice. More information can be found in www.tm.com.my.

What is the UniFi package offering?
UniFi is offering 3 residential and 3 business packages.

For residential VIP5 is RM149 a month, VIP10 is RM199 a month and VIP20 is RM249 a month. Each package comes with voice, different Internet speeds and either a basic or premium HyppTV subscription.

For businesses, BIZ5 is RM199 a month, BIZ10 is RM599 a month and BIZ20 is RM899 a month.
Each package comes with attractive call plans, different Internet speeds and a host of complimentary services.

What is the difference between TM IPTV and other satellite TV operators?
TM IPTV is different from other satellite TV operators in that it is transmitted via a broadband network. This gives you added benefits such as not being susceptible to bad weather, as well as fast Internet access via IPTV. Being a broadband platform, you can also expect other IP-based services in the future.

TM IPTV also differs in term of the pricing model, which is an On-Demand approach, which means you pay only for the channels, movies or series you want to watch, rather than pay for the whole package, with no extra monthly fees involved.

In addition, the service delivers Series on Demand such as, CSI past season/Hollywood Premiere, which gives local viewers exciting and extraordinary content.

How can UniFi benefit me?
You will be able to experience the highest speed connection available in the market and this will enable you to tap into many services such as online games, downloadable rich content, virtual interaction (video calls) and an enriched shopping experience (rich multimedia virtual shopping, real time merchant tips). UniFi provides more stable and reliable connections to ensure a premium customer experience.

How do I check service availability in my area?
You can check service availability by calling TM UniFi Centre at 1-300-88-1222 or visiting selected 6 TMpoint outlets currently in the HSBB areas: Taipan Subang Jaya, Damansara Utama, Menara TM, Jalan Raja Chulan, Shah Alam and Bangsar.

How do I subscribe to UniFi?
Interested parties can register their interest for UniFi at TM's website www.tm.com.my, call TM UniFi Centre at 1300 88 1222, or visit selected 6 TMpoint outlets currently in the HSBB coverage areas: Taipan Subang Jaya, Damansara Utama, Menara TM, Jalan Raja Chulan, Shah Alam and Bangsar.

What are the charges like – installation fee, hardware rental, contract duration, etc?
There will be an initial promotion, waiving charges for standard installations and activations worth RM300. In addition, the standard package is inclusive of equipment worth RM800 that will be given free-of-charge to customers. No deposit will be imposed. Only monthly subscription fees for UniFi packages will apply. Telephony usage charges and any purchase of value added services will be charged separately. For more details, please visit www.tm.com.my . The duration of standard contracts is 24 months.

How long is the expected installation waiting period for new subscribers?
We will be informing new subscribers of the expected waiting period for their specific case. In the first few months of operations, TM will be adjusting its resources to cope with the demand for UniFi.

How long does a typical physical installation and testing take?
The expected installation and testing will take approximately 4 to 8 hrs depending on the type of premises and the sensitive nature and complexity of fibre installations. An installation involves a site survey, ducting, piping, electrical work and equipment configuration.

Does TM allow customers to appoint their own contractor to perform internal wiring?
Because TM is ultimately responsible to ensure that the highest quality of service is delivered to customers, we will not allow unaccredited contractors to perform the installation of the service. Only TM or its appointed agents can install the fibre at the customer premise. That said, some customers will want to do additional enhancements in the internal wiring and they might opt to use additional third parties for this. But as TM, we need to ensure that the service is working properly upon our installation and with very high quality.

Does UniFi have a Fair Usage Policy (FUP)? Does the FUP differ across packages?
Yes, UniFi packages are subject to Fair Usage Policy. FUP is a standard global practice to ensure that a good quality of experience is provided to all customers. UniFi packages for consumers (not businesses) come with a volume-based allocation and monthly download volume is capped. However, the FUP will not impact customers who do not exhibit abusive usage behavior, and will not impact the delivery of IPTV and value added services.

One of our fellow beta testers dr3nchippo was kind enough to share with us on some stuff about TM's HSBB: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1329385/+88#

before HSBB,
ping to DNS streamyx was like 12ms -14ms with frequent timed out..
and google takes >200ms

now, no timed out..
and ping is fast as pinging to own home router.  tongue.gif

..different story when comes to ping outside Malaysia.  sweat.gif

Here is the wired upload speed:

Here is the upload speed using wireless on my laptop (the ping increased a little because of wireless):

Here is the singapore speed, notice the ping.

International ping is still too high. Browsing experience is almost the same with streamyx with this kind of ping.

About HSBB Project

What's HSBB

High Speed Broadband (HSBB) is a broadband service that offers bandwidth delivered at network speeds of 10Mbps and above. Unlike normal broadband connections which deliver bandwidth at network speeds ranging between 384kbps and 4Mbps, basic HSBB packages will eventually allow Malaysians to experience high speed Internet of up to 100 times faster than the usual rate while businesses will be able to have maximum speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps (1Gbps).

HSBB will initially be deployed via fiber in the inner Klang Valley, Iskandar Malaysia and key industrial zones throughout the country. It is expected that 1.3 million premises will have the ability to access HSBB coverage by end 2012.

HSBB Services

HSBB is capable of delivering Triple Play services.

Having Internet from 10Mbps and above directly to your home / office, will enable you to do many things. Example of these will be:

Streaming or downloading your favorite music and videos
Watch High Definition television (IPTV HD) directly from your TV.
High quality voice and video conferencing with your colleagues, family and friends anywhere.

What is the Triple Play service?

3 services are delivered over a single broadband line. The 3 services are High Speed Internet (HSI), Voice and IPTV.

user posted image

IPTV as key features in Triple Play offering

IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is a system where a digital television service is delivered using Internet Protocol over a network.

user posted image

How does IPTV work?

IPTV works on TV with a set-top box that accesses channels, subscription services and videos on demand. It is like cable TV, but it uses a broadband connection to the Internet instead of cable for the delivery of video services.

Products offered by IPTV?

IPTV offers live broadcast channels and also Video on Demand (VOD). Live broadcast channels are broadcast in real time which provides all viewers with the same TV programs. VOD is a channel or library of videos and movies that can be watched as and when you require. You can Play, Pause, Stop, Rewind and Forward as you wish, exactly like a DVD player.

Is HSBB available in my area?

Here, we show you where and when.

The fact that you saw that page means the domain taken up, don't worry they will instead pay RM10 to MyNIC to revoke your domain ownership tongue.gif

5mb = RM150. 60 gb capped
10mb = RM199. 80gb capped
20mb = Rm249. 120gb capped

err.. correct me if my understanding is wrong...

If I subscribe to the 20 mbps package (RM 240, 120gb capped),

120 GB capped per month = average 4 GB per day

At 20 mbps, that's 2.5 MB/s or 9 GB per hour.

Eh... if I'm a daily user and spend a few hours a day downloading/streaming stuff and surfing, I will bust my cap too easily... *sob*

Bet there is minimum subscription. So, even if you terminate, you need to pay up the remaining time.
For students, easily tie you in for 1 year.

What kind of admin charge rm 600 ?! Its no different from an instalment plan.

9Gb per hour? If you download/stream/surf that much per hour, you need to get off the internet and get a job. There's probably something out there that requires your insane multi tasking abilities.

120Gb isn't too harsh of a cap. Don't get me wrong, caps suck but you know what sucks more? not having fast internet access.

I run a 4Mb line and i do not break 25 gigs in a month. I couldn't even if i wanted to. It'd be way awesome if they had no caps, at least don't cap the 10Mbps line but judging by the track record of providing shitty service already, the reduced load would probably help keep everything running smoothly.

But i doubt it.

Either way, i'd get that 10Mbps line right now even with the 80gb cap... assuming it works as advertised.

Technically its Tm that make people suffer because they oversold it.

i can't believe there are people actually sanctioning bandwidth caps! way to target the wrong cause, please target your grievances at the provider, not the user!!! the only reason we are stuck in this pitiful position is because of the heavy monopoly. the only countries that have stupid bandwidth caps all have stupid telecom monopolies, ie cananda, australia... all only a few players that are continuously fleecing the customers giving all kinds of bullshit excuses. seriously they are just pinching every bit of profit they can out of you and completely missing the big picture that massive broadband coverage can provide.

i suppose idiots deserve what they believe.

eventho i'm not one of them...but i think these "illegal downloading faggots" are the one that urged the gomen & TM to give us the HSBB since others dun really need it...

anyway...

1 FullHD movie download LEGALLY = 10 - 20 GB (maybe, since never download one before)
1 game from Steam = 500MB - 3 GB
PS3 demos/videos/etc = 10 - 3 GB

1 month = 3 - 8 movies, 3 - 5 games, lotsa PS3s downloads...

think of doing this if got the speed of HSBB (and money of course). but the caps...................

O mai god, I just realize that I would need to maxx the bandwidth for HALF AN HOUR, and there goes my DAILY quota of 4 gigs..

QUOTE(virtual1979 @ Mar 24 2010, 10:54 PM)
5mb = RM150. 60 gb capped
10mb = RM199. 80gb capped
20mb = Rm249. 120gb capped

err.. correct me if my understanding is wrong...

*sob*

This cap affects legit users. don't let TMNUT and Malaysia ISP make it sound like averege users are you, me or the next guy. They're idea of an average user is a grandma that checks her e-mails every other day. and maybe books a flight off of expedia.

Real average internet users Download music and/or movies off of iTunes, Watch streaming video on Netflix and YouTube, play MMPOG games either on XBOX Live!/PC/or Playstation network...maybe all 3. They read their news online, stream internet radio, visit forums, catch up on TV show episodes they missed on NBC/ABC/CBS/Fox's websites, and many download a few music and/or movie/TV torrents, and instant message.

And they do this monthly. 120gb is not even remotely acceptable to Average users. And a total rip-off to XBOX Live!, PSN, and Netflix users.

This is unacceptable. They need to changed their policy and stop bleeding the customer with caps, limitations and high prices.

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ launched its “UniFi” next-generation High Speed Broadband (HSBB) service at Dataran Merdeka here on Wednesday, but did not release pricing details for the new packages.

UniFi promises a world of faster, richer and more reliable online experience, the company said in a statement, adding that pricing details would be disclosed on Thursday.

“Now that UniFi ... has arrived, we anticipate it will be a digital lifestyle changer as well as an enabler for the vast majority of our subscribers,” said TM chairman Datuk Dr Halim Shafie.

TM’s UniFi high speed broadband packages comprise triple-play services of high speed Internet, video (IPTV) and phone, at speeds of 5Mbps, 10Mbps and 20Mbps.

The IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) service, which makes up part of the value-add bundled service, will be delivered via an 8Mbps connection exclusively and in addition to the data speeds subscribed by customers.

With IPTV, customers can enjoy 22 linear channels, Video-On-Demand and interactive services such as games, tourism information and more, TM said.

The initial areas covered by TM’s UniFi are the four exchange areas of Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Bangsar.

In addition to these, UniFi will be expanded to another 22 exchange areas by June and a further 22 by December.

That means, by year-end 2010, TM’s UniFi will cover 48 exchange areas with a total of 750,000 premises passed. This would include key areas such as Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Iskandar Malaysia, the company said.

TM said it has already completed 311,000 premises passed, surpassing the target of 300,000 premises passed by the end of March. (“Premises passed” refers to the number of premises that are connected by UniFi and have the ready option to take up the service if they wanted to.)

The launch ceremony on Wednesday was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin and others.

HSBB is a flagship project of the National Broadband Initiative that aims to boost the country’s competitiveness. The RM11.3bil national HSBB project is a joint effort between TM and the Government to develop next generation high speed broadband infrastructure and services for the nation.

TM is putting up RM8.9bil while the Government is co-investing RM2.4bil on an incurred claims basis based on project milestones reached by TM.

in the conclusion, streamyx are still the best for heavy downloader, if they limit the bandwidth.

in this issue, i cant understand, if we cant download much storage of files, i don know for what we get high speed broadband, it is enough for us to use streamyx, am i right?

Understand that the bandwidth in Asia, particularly south east asia, is far more expensive. TM has to purchase bandwidth from carriers, so that's that.

I make a simple bandwidth calculation here.

Imagine bandwidth of IPTV if TM broadcast in HD.
To stream 720p HD video we need at least 4Mbps.

1 hour = 1.7GB
1 day = 41.2GB
30 day = 1236GB

So IPTV in HD on HSBB is just a dream if their used caps.

IPTV is provided locally through TMnets own servers. Thus it will not be counted.

IPTV is carried on a seperate, dedicated 8mbps line.. not shared with your HSBB line.. so the cap is not applied to IPTV

simple...they can however cap international site ........so international site all become turtle

coz IPTV is based on local IP..so not affected with capping....

They can cap only the internet access and IPTV left uncapped... I don think IPTV will be included in the cap, as the content hosted by TM itself and we have a dedicated bandwdth to stream from the server.

this would be nice, capped is ok for me as long as NO THROTTLING, by all means that we getting full speed of 1MB, which is capped to 1.5MB, whereby the 2MB is capped to 3MB, lolz, which have better international routing, if possible allows p2p as well? am i too greedy? lolz doh.gif

If TM introduce IPTV in HD (regardless caps), I thinks it will affect HSBB performance because of very huge amount of bandwidth (almost 1TB/month peruser) used although stream from local server.

TM-intranet bandwidth is free for TM. 1TB, 2TB, 1PB, whatever bandwidth, as long as they got the hardware to support it, its free.
The trouble is the bandwidth to overseas.
I am very interested to know how much they are paying for 1Gbps.

The reason:
Unifi Caps and pricing are almost like Australian pricing. Australia has to charge so much because they have to lay cables to Guam, somewhere in the middle of the Pacific.
As for Malaysia, they lay cable to HK/Taiwan/Japang (my guess), and this is far cheaper that Australia. So why are we paying as much as Australia? To cover the cost for Fibre optic cables?

If it really happened, 1M means 1024K not more than this... Streamyx, TM capped 1M users to 1.5M is to make people happy... lol

We will see, since most 4M Streamyx users will change to at least 5M UniFi, as it is cheaper and if your area supported, why you want to pay more (current Streamyx pricing) for less benefits. In UniFi we get VoIP, Internet and IPTV.

People who uses 4Mbps are mostly downloaders. 5Mbps has a 60GB cap. You can breach the cap if you fully utilize the line for 48hours, how nice is that. 4Mbps can go ~1TB a month

Andohbtw, the HSBB will start with a 2 year contract. Pretty nice to tie you down.

Currently the IPTV I checked out just now has very little channels. Was told there is currently 2 HD channel, 1 is Luxe TV, another is Fashion TV or something. Pretty much channels that nobody watches. The Video-on-demand seemed interesting.
They do have rather new shows. However, it is in SD format. When they start playing it, the video quality was worse than IPTV version of TV1. Imagine that, what could be worse than TV1 broadcast?

PS: now that it has been launched, should the name goes to 'Official TM Unifi Thread" ?

Is HSBB for the elites and cronies?
Streamyx for the pariah?

in the demo, it shows full HD Youtube finished streaming before finished playback

in streamyx 1Mbps, "downloading" 360p youtube video takes at least 15 minutes, downloading Apple QuickTime 720p movie trailers around 100MB is running at not more than 20kB/sec

well at least with the HSBB launch we will be out of the 1MB era, our neighboring countries are now talking of 24mbps minimum, and we are still going like "wow" for a 1MB connections from all kind of telco's to ISP, enough of taking us for a ride, we want the real thing.

What I said was after you reached certain amount of data quota then your speed will be reduced like DiGi Broadband. As for our long lasting Streamyx, the speed also can reach max when you used download manager.

I pity those whom are able to get it in Q42010 only.

Let's get it download the entire internet! okok kidding.. I hope the capped are only for prime time. capped during 12PM to 11:59PM and open up from 12AM to 11:59AM then it makes more sense.

Unfortunately they would cap you when you exceeded the bandwidth allowance rather than setting up which time to cap. I feel like my time was wasted there for not having to know the official price which will be released by tomorrow morning.

Price for internet will always be cheaper and cheaper, and that pricing for the next few years, maybe it sounds very expensive, its suppose to come down. Unless you really have a good reason to get that bandwidth else its just a big waste of money. Imagine you pay double or triple the price for a car that can run double or triple speed but you always stick to the speed limit.

HSBB RM150 for 5M.

1) Because Streamyx 4mbps for RM160 was already very expensive compared to Thailand and Singapore

2) Because HSBB is rumoured to come with a less-than-generous bandwidth cap, whereas Streamyx has none.

This is just an opinion, which may not be popular with most....

Maybe they should just sell additional data usage packages instead of capping speeds.

1. Package should be at a low price entry point, eg RM90 with say 60GB limit.
This will help increase broadband usage due to the lower pricing.

This should be enough for most light to medium users.

2. If you want more data usage, you pay additional for it, say RM30 per 50GB block. So if you want to use say 200GB a month, you would pay a total of RM180 or so. This should be enough for a heavier user. Even heavier user will have to pay even more.

This will help with fair usage while not affecting connection speeds. It may help with network performance and improve quality of service for all users. There may be no need for throttling connections if the network is not congested.

The above is just examples. The point is pay per data usage method.

As I've said before, if they decide to have data transfer limits, its going to be the heavy downloaders that are most affected. If Unifi has data transfer limits (either straight away or in the future), it is likely that Streamyx will also have them. There is already indication of this in what is said in the Streamyx users FAQ.

problem with that, 90% of users are most certainly going to go for the cheapest block, rm30. why would they allow that when they can fleece the users of 5Mb for rm160. regardless how much data they use.

all the excuse about massive data users is just BS... its just excuse to charge high prices and oversell their lines and blame someone.

In case I was not clear, in my example, the base package price is RM90.You have to pay that minimum. Each additional 50Gb you want, you pay RM30 on top of the base price. So there is no RM30 package.

Reasons for doing this way could be:

1. they are serious about increasing broadband usage in the country.
2. they want fair usage for all users
3. they want to curb online piracy
4. they want to ensure less network congestion
5. they can earn more from heavier users (ie pay per usage method) and hopefully improve their network or international link capacity. As time passes, they can even consider increasing the quoatas depending on how much capacity they have

Verzion FiOS cost $89.99 around RM306 included telephone, IPTV and 15M/5M internet connection. We will be TM can beat it or not... lol
*
You cannot even begin to compare.

With FIOS you can actually use the high speed for international destinations. I have a client on FIOS who needs to access one of my servers in Europe. She consistently gets close to full speed in transfers to and from that server. With HSBB, testers are getting international speeds to most destinations that are the same as I get with Streamyx (i.e., dog slow).

Now, the "value-added" services.

TM IPTV includes what, 20 channels? Of which maybe two or three I would ever even consider watching. Then look at the FIOS TV lineup: http://www22.verizon.com/Residential/FiOST...annelLineUp.htm (enter zip code 20812, just as an example). Can you even count all those channels? And how many are HD?

FIOS includes unlimited free phone calls throughout the country plus Canada. Last I saw, TM was charging RM0.15/minute on their VoIP line.

hello.. if you not already know

RM90 for 60GB is just tooooo good to be true, they will go bankrupt if they charge at this tariff, consider the amount they spent in deploying FTTH

RM88 is the normal price for 1Mbps Streamyx, now you want RM90 for this Fiber connection? not in Malaysia bro...

First of all, I already said in my post that this was just an example to show my point. I did not say that that should be the price. Of course there should be research done to find a proper price point.

Secondly, you don't need to always compare with Streamyx prices. For example, most people say RM88 is already too much for 1M. So lets say that 1M should really only be say for example RM40. Then your comparison of prices would be different wouldn't it?

I hope you see the point, not just look at the figures.

nope I don't think Streamyx pricing will drop in short time
if Streamyx price is not dropping, then HSBB will remain expensive for some time

I even suspect they taken most of the international BW to cater for the HSBB, leaving Streamyx users craving like crazy while streaming youtube and other video streaming sites

Wait for YTL's 4G to come out.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, TM does have competition and they are required to lease their lines out to 3rd parties.

I think the pricing is in line with what they have now. They could probably do with at least 30% price cuts across the board though.

But lets see how much of a fight YTL will put up, considering their service is going to be nationwide.

*
but still, the backbone/gateway own by TM. If YTL/foreign ISP lay their own backbone, that should be break tm's monopoly

if lease to 3rd parties, no competition for tm for sure,

I don't have faith on wireless isp's. they like to boast to promote their product, and then give crappy service to customer

Price for internet will always be cheaper and cheaper, and that pricing for the next few years, maybe it sounds very expensive, its suppose to come down. Unless you really have a good reason to get that bandwidth else its just a big waste of money. Imagine you pay double or triple the price for a car that can run double or triple speed but you always stick to the speed limit.

have you try celcom broadband? once reach 5GB on D68 and D98 package, celcom will throttle down your speed till you are unable to load youtube vids properly.

so tm will impose the same thing; throttle the the speed, for example 5Mbps to 512kbps

They add another 8 Mbps for TV Streaming if u subscribe that meaning they won't throttled you as if u watch too much HDTV your quota will be fakap

I don't think they can separate bandwidth for your IPTV and your normal surfing

Meaning if you subscribe 20Mbps u will get additional 8Mbps extra bandwidth = 28Mbps bandwidth to max out

I'm not sure wether HSSB ip is static or dynamic if static get ready to get DMCA take down notice if u run utorrent inside your PC

I think they can and they should separate the bandwidth since IPTV is on VLAN.

I believe that for IPTV there are different price structure depending on which channel customers are subscribing like Astro, thus it's not fair to cap IPTV usage.

ISP's lease infrastructure all the time. I'm sure you'd love to believe that everyone has enough money to lay down their own backbone and charge low prices. Fact is, they can't. If they can use TM's infra and provide a better service than TM, then that alone is plenty of competition.

It's up to TM to ensure that the lines are working well and its in their own best interest to do so. It's not like they're gonna block the other ISPs, that's what the court is for.

TM doesn't have a monopoly, if they did they wouldn't need to lay down this line. The government may be aiding them, but they're providing a majority of the funding themselves.

There's no point in speculating what the cap is and how it's going to be managed. Wait for the announcement and take action from there.

Star signs carriage deal with TMNet

Star Greater China has signed a multi-year non-exclusive distribution deal with Malaysian IPTV platform TM Net.

Under the agreement, TM Net will distribute three of Star’s Mandarin-language channels – Star Chinese Channel, Star Chinese Movies 2 and Channel V Taiwan – on its IPTV platform effective from today (March 24).

“Star is delighted to announce our cooperation with TM Net. We believe our channels carried through IPTV will meet the various needs of Malaysian viewers,” said Daniel Cheung, CEO of STAR Taiwan.

As time passes, they can even consider increasing the quoatas depending on how much capacity they have
*
TM already has the packages for these users.
They are rumoured to have the following pricing.
5mb = RM150. 60 gb capped
10mb = RM199. 80gb capped
20mb = Rm249. 120gb capped.

If you subscribed to 60GB, they give you a speed of 5Mbps.
If you subscribed to 80GB, they give you a speed of 10Mbps.
If you want more, 120GB, they give you a speed of 20Mbps.

That means the more you subscribe, the higher speed you get.

I don't see anything special from your example.

honestly, this broadband limiting measure is nonsensical. i much rather they give us an option for unlimited usage, but pay higher. fair usage my @$$. we pay more, they increase capacity. the math is really that simple.

You think so it'll make a difference ? When they initially announce plans for HSBB, the opposition said that it was wasteful. Money should be spent for the "rakyat" and not technology which benefits certain parties only. Very short term thinking and only interested to say politically right sweet stuff statements to attract voters.

With this high speed, 60gb is just fly away. Imagine sufting, streaming and chating become faster. You will use double or triple the amount of the data. What the heck it still cap.

With 2mb I m using now, I already using min 120gb. Speed vs data.

How?

DMCA takedown notices can only be sent to organisations that have filed their contact information with the US government for this specific purpose. Those organisations may then pass the note on to their client, if appropriate.

TM doesn't have a filing. And DMCA doesn't apply outside of the USA anyway.

neva gonna make you cry
neva gonna say gud bye

If the caps are true...this is another Phailed Project BN.

60GB...LOL. I dun mind cap, but be reasonable lar, at that kinda speed, there should be at least 250GB across the board. Those exceed the cap then will have the speed reduced to 50% or at least minimum 1MBbps(UL/DL). Then only reasonable.

Otherwise, it's just the same old repakaging....like someone said, the median of the price has certainly not gone down.

60GB for a 5mbps symmetric line.. ridiculous. Pure download @ 5mbps means about 27 hours of continuous usage .. which is about <1 hour of 5mbps per day. This is download only, not even inclusive of upload overhead.

When you watch youtube SD also it goes up to 5mbps, means you can only stream <1 hour of content per day lar.

Many people are believing this rumor because ....

1. in last nights speech regarding price drop, najib only mentioned about student prices drop, but nothing in regards to regular home subscriber prices. So obviously if he didn't mention about it, then the price probably not gonna drop isn't it ? He kinda glossed over the pricing so fast as well doh.gif so what are they hiding ?

Hm kay thanks for the info anyway..

but yea its totally ridiculous. Even on my 4mbps line now, I don't download much just some daily 175MB show, play a lot of online games and stream 720p youtube.. it comes up to about 120-150GB a month.

Did you manage to test out the HSBB speeds there? From the reports people gave out about the dataran merdeka link, they said it's a 20mbps link.. but download/upload from local servers like Jaring seems to let them burst from 40 to 100mbps. It either means TM specially set the link for the showcase at a much higher speed or perhaps local traffic is allowed to burst from 20 to 100mbps (which is REALLY good).

it won't because people might start dumping HSBB because it's expensive, and switch to streamyx instead.

so i believe, tm will not drop any prices for streamyx, for sure

It's obvious for 2 factors:

1) Current Streamyx price REMAINS. Otherwise, Bijan will have gloated to score political points. Isn't it that simple?

2) If current Streamyx price REMAINS, obviously HSBB price will be much higher...so those rumoured price are probably around the right pricing based on current Streamyx price. It certainly won't be below Streamyx!!

So the Mystery is solved. Now left the cap limit. If the cap limit is true, then the HSBB is surely Holy Shit Bloody Broadband!!!

So what we have is an SUPER EXPENSIVE BROADBAND, WITH A LOW CAP.

I'm still drooling over Singtel SGD 46.90 for 10Mbps unlimited broadband.....We will be paying 4 times the price(dun count conversion, if you work/live in SG, SGD 50 is almost similar to RM50 here) for less,

Malaysia Boleh!!!

Not trying to defend TM, but comparing to Singapore is kinda moot as it's such a tiny nation that their infrastructure to provide Internet services can't be as many as Malaysia's. So I assume that's how they're able to provide such ridiculously cheap prices.

this is what i gathered

for youtube, there is no cap...only for direct download & international p2p will count...

if exceed cap limit, the international speed will be throttled form lets say, from 5mbps to just 512kbps...for local, it will still at 5mbps...so, if u guys doing p2p dl locally, it wont throttle down...

for iptv, there will be no cap at all...8mbps constant streaming speed will be given 24 hours..its just that they wont tell u that they provide u a 8mbps speed for iptv that u subscribe...meaning that, let say if u subscribe for 5mbps package with iptv, the speed that they open for u is 5mbps + 8mbps = 13mbps...

that is wat i've been told by the respresentatives...if they lie, then i lie la... tongue.gif

by the way, i watched the iptv demo..the HD quality that they provide is slightly better than astro beyond...& the feature that they provide is also quite nice...

my opinion;

TM IPTV;
+ nice HD quality
+ nice feature & VOD
- lack of interesting channel (this one, astro win hands down)

Not really their ISPs monitoring but SG people who have sort of purchased a license to 'prosecute' other SGers for downloading licensed contracts. As long as they stick to private trackers (in the case of BT) or use VPN services nothing will happen wink.gif

Wow! That's amazing if it's true. It will maintain international link capacity and allow those downloaders to get their content fix. They can either use IP filtering so their clients can only connect to peers on local IP address ranges or we can just establish our own P2P network locally lol.

Tiny nation also dun have petrol, no natural resources, no water, no sand, no nothing. Yet, they still can afford cheap broadband to their citizen. So your point is moot too.

I'm surprised at the amount of buttock hurt the cap has caused, was expecting less, among the heavy downloaders only.

60GB on 5Mbps, thats like the bandwidth cap of 3G internet services, I think TM is trying to cover their wiring cost by charging so much and spending less on international bandwidth. While I admit I am a heavy downloader, 250GB across the board would be nice.

Good info. thumbup.gif I hope that's true. Otherwise, the IPTV tak boleh jalan at all. btw, does the pricing includes the IPTV? The FAQS at TMPOint suggest the price includes TriplePlay...if the price includes IPTV, then it is acceptable.

If TMnet can throttle protocols like BT, it means they have deep packet inspection filters installed on their network. They can easily monitor and log all your activity but yeah I guess SG ISPs would be more strict when these 'license owners' contact them for customer information regarding P2Pers.

Those people get cut off the HSBB network for abuse? :/ Not to mention it would rape their bandwidth cap

If TMnet can throttle protocols like BT, it means they have deep packet inspection filters installed on their network. They can easily monitor and log all your activity but yeah I guess SG ISPs would be more strict when these 'license owners' contact them for customer information regarding P2Pers.
Site was updated.. they changed HSBB to Unifi. Waiting on press conference in the afternoon to announce the pricing sad.gif

so now its this afternoon?!!!! wow.... shakehead.gif

Depending on the type of DDOS attack.. One GOOD reason to implement bandwidth caps is for this very purpose. They will only be able to do it for a limited period of time.. and they will have to do it directly without proxying making them easy to identify.

Streamyx users are always trying shit like this but yeah, HSBB is a double edged sword.

if the point of subscribe the UniFi is for sharing...tat will be slow for all using...and the cap will lost like water flow.

In regard to the pricing mentioned by najib yesterday, please read this article

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...1577&sec=nation

That was the only price reduction mentioned ;_;

There are easier ways to DOS** Maybank and LYN servers besides consuming a load of bandwidth. Last year, I reported a vulnerability to TM about their CBJ5 datacenter (which has been fixed now so don't bother). I took down RHB, mcds and tons of other local websites just by attacking their main router (which manages the VLANs) and I used what.. 2KB/s of bandwidth lol
