QUOTE(rajulkabir @ Mar 25 2010, 09:00 AM) How? TM is in that database I guess.. I've received 1-2 DMCA letters from Cyberjaya NOC's for corporate packages before. Residential.. prolly not.DMCA takedown notices can only be sent to organisations that have filed their contact information with the US government for this specific purpose. Those organisations may then pass the note on to their client, if appropriate. TM doesn't have a filing. And DMCA doesn't apply outside of the USA anyway. |

QUOTE(keown83 @ Mar 25 2010, 09:06 AM) imma talked to one of the representative last night 60GB for a 5mbps symmetric line.. ridiculous. Pure download @ 5mbps means about 27 hours of continuous usage .. which is about <1 hour of 5mbps per day. This is download only, not even inclusive of upload overhead.he confirmed to me that there will be a cap for all package 5mbps package will capped around 60gb he said When you watch youtube SD also it goes up to 5mbps, means you can only stream <1 hour of content per day lar. QUOTE(keown83 @ Mar 25 2010, 09:12 AM) i dunno... Hm kay thanks for the info anyway..he wont tell me the exact capped capacity he just said around this & around that lastly he said just wait for today but he stressed that there will be a cap i oso dowan to annoyed him more, so i go enjoyed play winning eleven multiplayer at the next booth with ma friend but yea its totally ridiculous. Even on my 4mbps line now, I don't download much just some daily 175MB show, play a lot of online games and stream 720p youtube.. it comes up to about 120-150GB a month. Did you manage to test out the HSBB speeds there? From the reports people gave out about the dataran merdeka link, they said it's a 20mbps link.. but download/upload from local servers like Jaring seems to let them burst from 40 to 100mbps. It either means TM specially set the link for the showcase at a much higher speed or perhaps local traffic is allowed to burst from 20 to 100mbps (which is REALLY good). |

QUOTE(soundsyst64 @ Mar 25 2010, 09:25 AM) but there's a problem over there. SG isp will monitor our downloads and check of we download illegal stuffs (especially anime fansubs) Not really their ISPs monitoring but SG people who have sort of purchased a license to 'prosecute' other SGers for downloading licensed contracts. As long as they stick to private trackers (in the case of BT) or use VPN services nothing will happen QUOTE(keown83 @ Mar 25 2010, 09:26 AM) this is what i gathered Wow! That's amazing if it's true. It will maintain international link capacity and allow those downloaders to get their content fix. They can either use IP filtering so their clients can only connect to peers on local IP address ranges or we can just establish our own P2P network locally lol.for youtube, there is no cap...only for direct download & international p2p will count... if exceed cap limit, the international speed will be throttled form lets say, from 5mbps to just 512kbps...for local, it will still at 5mbps...so, if u guys doing p2p dl locally, it wont throttle down... for iptv, there will be no cap at all...8mbps constant streaming speed will be given 24 hours..its just that they wont tell u that they provide u a 8mbps speed for iptv that u subscribe...meaning that, let say if u subscribe for 5mbps package with iptv, the speed that they open for u is 5mbps + 8mbps = 13mbps... that is wat i've been told by the respresentatives...if they lie, then i lie la... by the way, i watched the iptv demo..the HD quality that they provide is slightly better than astro beyond...& the feature that they provide is also quite nice... my opinion; TM IPTV; + nice HD quality + nice feature & VOD - lack of interesting channel (this one, astro win hands down) This post has been edited by rizvanrp: Mar 25 2010, 09:29 AM |

QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ Mar 25 2010, 09:29 AM) A colleague of mine said that tmnut can also monitor what you are downloading If TMnet can throttle protocols like BT, it means they have deep packet inspection filters installed on their network. They can easily monitor and log all your activity but yeah I guess SG ISPs would be more strict when these 'license owners' contact them for customer information regarding P2Pers.QUOTE(arslow @ Mar 25 2010, 09:30 AM) its already 'tommorow" and yet pricing is still not yet announced on the website....TM webmaster still sleeping ar?!!!! Site was updated.. they changed HSBB to Unifi. Waiting on press conference in the afternoon to announce the pricing |

QUOTE(RoxyGal @ Mar 25 2010, 09:34 AM) Depending on the type of DDOS attack.. One GOOD reason to implement bandwidth caps is for this very purpose. They will only be able to do it for a limited period of time.. and they will have to do it directly without proxying making them easy to identify.Streamyx users are always trying shit like this but yeah, HSBB is a double edged sword. QUOTE(RoxyGal @ Mar 25 2010, 09:39 AM) let say only mah There are easier ways to DOS** Maybank and LYN servers besides consuming a load of bandwidth. Last year, I reported a vulnerability to TM about their CBJ5 datacenter (which has been fixed now so don't bother). I took down RHB, mcds and tons of other local websites just by attacking their main router (which manages the VLANs) and I used what.. 2KB/s of bandwidth lollast time yahoo kena ddos from corporate leased line coz the pc kena virus mah.... with the speed and power...sure got cons also.... maybe can ddos streamyx user also... QUOTE(keown83 @ Mar 25 2010, 09:43 AM) Nah It's good in situations where.. lets say there's a new botnet worm out and HSBB linked PCs are compromised. I'd be more worried about the technology behind the HSBB however.. I don't even know what protocol they're using over the GPON fiber. It's probably encrypted since its a passive network and can be sniffed easily. This post has been edited by rizvanrp: Mar 25 2010, 09:47 AM |

QUOTE(Matrix @ Mar 25 2010, 10:24 AM) Thanks for the info. As expected. The caps will come sooner than later. Mark my words. Now they're fishing for customers....if tell everyone got 60gb caps...then no one wanna suscribe.....after 3 months later...then u kena...LOL. Yeah well, I've been streamyx user for 7-8 years now sick of it already. I applied for 20mbps and its free access for 3 months.. not bad la for RM249. Now also, I'm paying 198 for 4mbps and additional rm69 for 1mbps jaring backup adsl line. It's gonna be cheaper lolThis post has been edited by rizvanrp: Mar 25 2010, 10:26 AM |

QUOTE(rattan @ Mar 25 2010, 10:27 AM) So meaning fix line to fix line is free ? I wonder if there is any chargers for the VOIP service. Isit from BBPhone ? I won't know for sure till 30th to be honest. You could try asking those beta testers who already have it..I used BBphone service last time, it was not bad at all, very clear with 512 connection. Only that the system always went down for maintenance. Sometimes for months |

QUOTE(ycs @ Mar 25 2010, 11:15 AM) At the end of the day, its just going to matter if your situation matches the package you want. If you like to leave you PC on 24/7 and download tons of 'stuff', then go ahead and stick with the 4mbps Streamyx ADSL packages.I have been happy with my 4mbps network speed but I've been thoroughly dissatisfied with its implementation. While I get 3.5mbps, my line is capped below 4mbps physically at the ATM link because of the aging copper in my area. If it's capped any higher it causes non stop disconnections on the ATM link. Why should I continue to subscribe to something that disconnects all the time when it rains and expose my whole copper wired gigabit network at home to lightning strikes over and over when I have a better option? It's so bad that I had to buy a separate phone line just for another ADSL link to Jaring -- and it's not a problem with TM, it's a problem with the laws of physics and using oxidized, exposed copper wiring. I don't use more than 120GB of bandwidth a month, I just want a connection that's always on, is fast (so I can pick up my small TV shows ASAP), has low latency and doesn't run on copper wires from the Japanese occupation era. I don't want shitty Wifi/Wimax based services where I have to literally share the line with everyone in my area and put up with 80-100ms base latency simply because of its implementation regardless of how much bandwidth they want to throw at me. TM monopolizing the network is one thing but if you guys aren't already aware of this, bandwidth in Asia costs A LOT. It costs so much that Runescape scrapped its plans to host a server in Singapore back in the day because it was just too bloody expensive. You can say that if we have more competitors, the pricing will go down. That's true but eventually you'll hit the rock bottom pricing where they have to make a profit and still manage to pay for all the bandwidth you heavy downloaders use for Bluray pornos (don't dispute this fact with me, I used to run one of the first few torrenting services here on LYN This package is new and I'm hoping that once the HSBB network gets properly built, either caps will be increased or we'll be allocated more bandwidth. Either that or they can just ignore local bandwidth so we can cut down on our international link usage. If I really wanted to download a 200GB file for whatever reason, I'd just pick up a colocation package with 1000GB of bandwidth at Jaring's IDC at Tech Park Msia.. hook up my laptop to their gigabit network and download at 10-15MB/s. |
