me myself just cancelled my public bank cc. but 1st i called up CS on the procedure & was advised to go to any public bank branch.

1st, you need to double confirm wif counter staff if got any outstanding. if yes, pay in full.

2nd, i was asked to see the bank's CS. then, fill in a form, a photocopy of my IC was needed, & surrender my CC. they will cut the CC & attach the CC with the form to confirm the cancellation. and i was also given a photocopy of the cancellation CC form for my reference.

all done in 20 minutes.

DirectAccess principal and supp cards can be cancelled with immediate effect. Don't be bluffed by the CS saying "Please wait for XX days to process".

Citibank cc can also be cancelled through Secure Message in Citibank Online.
I cancelled my Shell Classic, Shell Gold, Giant, normal Gold cc in this way.
However, follow up is needed as they'll ask you wait for a few working days.

Tips:

To safe guard your interest please request to send you a letter to confirm cancellation of your card and make sure the account ZERO. There are instances that request was not done properly. With the letter at least when there is a dispute you have prove the check with them.

apparently its only recently implemented maybe end of 2010 or early 2011. i cant remember when i cancelled it. i used to have 1 visa and 1 master. last time i cancelled the master around 2009 i think. and i had to put in a form and bla bla bla. after a year i cancelled the visa and called up. and they told me i can do it through phone now. so pretty good smile.gif

after a week or 2 they will send u an acknowledgement form and inform u that your card has been cancelled. tada

Hi,

I didn't haf to fill up any forms to cancel my Citibank CC. In fact, thus far all the CCs I've cancelled, all I did was to just make a call to CS and tell them I want to cancel the CC.

Just for info, end 2009 I cancelled my MBB Petronas Gold at the branch in front of an officer where she even card the chip and gave me half of it. But last year got Statement charging me RM50 for GSt, of course it was waived since I have cancelled the card. But I also cancelled my MBB Petronas Plat in early 2010 and no issues (reapplied for the MBB Petronas Plat in end 2010).

1. They pre-approved the cc to me...and said will rebate rm50 gst + rm20 for using it 3 times in 2 months...at the end i only get the rm20 rebate..the rm50 i dont know y they dont gv me...complaint several times but the promise just dont materialize...

2. they will send some coupons to gsc cc holders..like buy 1 get 1 free for movie tickets, complementary pop corns those kind of coupons...but wat they hv sent to me are totally useless...because the term and conditions written on the back of those coupons are all not valid since they printed all the t&c wrong sided...imagine...there are 8 coupons given, 4 rows 2 columns..those t&c that suppose to be on the left column went to the right hand side...whereas the t&c suppose to be on he right hand side went to the left hand side...

i tried to use those coupons but the gsc staff and managers insist they cant accept those coupons because of the wrongly printed tnc...make me embarrass only at the counter...complaint to eon and ask them to gv me a new coupons...they only say they will check and get back to me everytime i called to them again...

3. i think i got too many cc...

so now...gst is coming for this card...so sure i will cut it...

would it be too late to cancel the card by the time you receive the statement with the $50 government tax? or do you have to cancel it before the government tax appears on your statement?

You can try to get the GST waived upon card cancellation.... up to the bank's policy.
You should have cancel CC one month before the GST month.

Does it have to be 1 year usage before you can terminate the CC? I use less that 5 months. Do they ask question why you want to terminate their card?

You can cancel via SCB Online Banking page... ;-)

SCB has 0.5% rebate is you use the ChoicePoints redemption method.
SCB Business Visa has 0.5% + 0.5% (ChoicePoints Redemption)

Previously, they wanted the physical card to be surrendered. That's why have to go to the nearest branch for termination.

Of course, it'll be whole lot of better if they could practise like DA. rclxms.gif

AEON Cancellation follow your template???

then email or fax or by hand submit to them???

i want to cancel my AEON.

Reason:

My card crack, cannot detect the chip, hence cant swipe.
Ask for replacement, they charge me RM50.
So better i cancel it and apply other bank.

Hey guys, this is really KNS.....last time I told you that after I hv cancelled the above mentioned card and saw the cc account was instantly removed at the internet banking...

10mins ago..I login to the internet banking again...the card REAPPEARED!!!! guess wat..now my credit limit become my previous cl + rm10, then i go and c the transactions details and found that they credited rm10 to my cancelled credit card account and stated that I am a winner of the "register and win IB contest of April"..WTF??? I am sure I never registered anything with that card other than secure online verify by visa thingy..and how can they credit that RM10 to the cc account which I hv cancelled..this is really a joke...now I dun know whether the card is confirmed cancel...and I really doubt that..the next statement will be the paying GST statement...If I didnt notice that...I think I will hv to pay RM40 = GST - RM10 for a cancelled cc...this is really fcuk!!

tomorrow will call the stupid bank again to.........re-cancel a cancelled cc...KNS!!!!!!!!!

u guys just beware of the banks stupid tricks!!!!

Hey, honestly speaking i dun think Standard Chartered bank credit card is good, just like when u shop in harvey norman, they got free installment plan for all bank, except Standard chartered. And if u want to transfer ur balance to installment plan. wow, they charge u damm high interest, 5.99% for 6 to 9 months, 6.99 for 12 months and 7.99 for 18 months, so high.

My CIMB only charge 2% for 10 months installment, 4% for 20 months and 5% for 30 months, i think Standard Chartered is sucks

I just called UOB CS to cancel my wife's Visa supp card. Last time, when I terminated my MC, they make me go to the branch.

Hey, how long i need to hold the standard chartered credit card? i just get it last month, and i find out that the card is not as good as others bank such as citibank and maybank which got lots of privillage such as priority line for TGV, discounts bla bla bla, just call them and cancel? no penalty charges?

Added on May 27, 2011, 10:05 am

Hey, honestly speaking i dun think Standard Chartered bank credit card is good, just like when u shop in harvey norman, they got free installment plan for all bank, except Standard chartered. And if u want to transfer ur balance to installment plan. wow, they charge u damm high interest, 5.99% for 6 to 9 months, 6.99 for 12 months and 7.99 for 18 months, so high.

My CIMB only charge 2% for 10 months installment, 4% for 20 months and 5% for 30 months, i think Standard Chartered is sucks

You can cancel the SCB credit Card anytime... agent's commission will be taken back if you cancel within 6 months.

Do I have to inform the service providers which I signed up via MB AutoPay Bill when I terminated the credit card? I thought it is not necessary as long as I continue paying up the bills by any other means.
Any experience?

Question, if I apply for credit card in both companies, then both approved and they sent to me house address. Then I feel like cancelling one of them, I have not used it or activated it before. Can I cancel it just like that? Do I incur any cost? How do I do it?

Thanks sifus..

I just make a phone call to cancel my cards. If they ask me to walk in or pass them the card, I tell them I mail it to them long long time ago already. Very fast, no hassle. If they send me statement or anything funny, I just call and complain. All the calls are recorded anyway.

Something to share. A CIMB staff (I believe from the card retention department) called to offer 7500 points to offset the GST. Only 75% because it is a gold card and upgrading is too much of a hassle. I didnt take the offer. I would have retained it if given full points to offset, for the Eraman discounts though, but my request was declined lol.

According to the CS, CIMB will send a notification letter upon the succesful termination of my card, which is good smile.gif

For the benefit of credit card users who wishes to cancel their credit card but are not aware why WRITTEN CONFIRMATION OF CANCELLATION FROM THE BANK is important.

Should you not received a confirmation from the bank, the credit assigned to you might possibly remain in your credit book a.k.a CCRIS report.

Should you want to apply any other loan /new cards, it will come a point that your application be rejected and reason not known. Why? Because you are overly "credited" by bankers which you are not using the credit and even worse, you have cancelled the credit card (but CC bank did not informed to BNM to update that).

Anyway, even if the bank did not provide you with the cancellation confirmation, the sky is not falling apart, just ajak your kawan-kawan sekalian find a day to BNM to print out your own CCRIS report. If you see the credit card you have cancelled 5yrs ago and still in the report, you can accumulate all your anger and vent it to the CC banker all at once. :-D

It happens to someone I know. He had cancelled 2 cc (with RM15K limits each) some 2 yrs ago. And recently he wanted to get a new cc but was being rejected 3 times from different banks. And his stories made up what I've typed on the above. He got his new card one week after he fire his anger at the 2 banks issued the previous 2 cc.

Noted, thus it is not an unusual case for bank to force us to pay the rm50 gst, no chance for appeal.

Not sure why this thread exists coz I tot giving a call to CS and it's done?

Btw, this is my practice, though I only cancel CC once. After you cancel ur card through call, give a call to CS again. High chances are u'll get diff agent picking up. Ask them to double confirm ur card is cancelled.

There's one incident with my Fren, after she lost her card, she called CS and the agent said he/she has canceled the card. Then when statement come, got other transaction after that. Called CS again and said the card is not cancelled. End up she has to bear the cost.

Better be precaution.

If you refer to first page, you can observe that some banks require their customer to submit a card termination form. Best way, is to get a black and white proof that your card has been terminated.

Just to share my exp:

I managed to cancel my DA CC by filling up a form from a CIMB branch, after few days someone called me from CIMB for confirmation, and few days later received an SMS that the CC has been canceled.

I also managed to cancel my SCB CC thru the CS counter from SCB Damansara Uptown.

Just canceled my PBB card.

I called in and ask them to waive my GST and they say it is impossible for them to do so. So I told them, ok, just cancel my card. Poof, she canceled my card that instance without asking any question.

I will call back later and check if the card is still active and try to use at a petrol station to see if the transaction could go through.

Call customer service to do so. (some requires you to walk into their branch but mostly don't) Then, try at petrol station to see if the card still works or not. This is at least what I did.

Terminated my MBB Petronas by calling CS yesterday. The CS said will transfer the Treats Points in the Petronas account to my other account.

Do you surrender your card? Or need any black and white to cancel? How long it takes for the process until all settled? TQVM

Just a call will do.
I cancelled my supp card via phone call. It took effect in less than 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, my CIMB clicks showed the supp card had zero credit limit.

yes, bank definitely will charge you for early settlement. Better just pay rm50 for GST rather than pay early settlement fee

Actually, you can cancel your card even if there is still unpaid outstanding balance in your credit card. You just have to pay in full when the next statement comes.

I cancelled my Maybank CC via phone call only. But noted here, I already cleared all outstanding bills before canceling that card.

But for PB whatever cards, must proceed at counter.

Man... Hong Leong again... tell them you are earning below RM36,001/pa and need to cancel their credit card by the end of this month. A statement release by BNM clearly states that you must cancel it by the end of the month and must clear the outstanding balance in the next 24-month. Try to talk to them again.

I've cancelled my HLB classic card thru the bank counter on 23 Dec 2011. The officer said that I have to wait about 7 days to get the process done.

But me being impatient, called the Card centre on 27 Dec 2011 and ask about my release letter, the officer on the phone said that within 7 days, someone from the card centre will call me and try to convince me to continue being a HLB customer...

Funny thing is that they made no attempt to renew the expired card on 2009 but i guess it's my fault then for not being a good paymaster... Like people say, It's nothing personal, It's just good bussiness... haha!

Hi pips, i have a noobie question..
I cancel my AM Bank Carz CC today. I was charged RM50 for the process. I havent put my signature on the card; and i got my card last friday.
Reason was HSBC offered better credit limit than AMB. The bank officer said once the card is approved, they gona charge RM50 when u decide to cancel the card. Isit true?
Thank u

For any reasons that the bank want to charge you then ASK THEM why they want to charge you and what is the charge! It is a simple process that is now lost among the new young generation.

And please take note the government tax of RM50 is chargeable the moment your card is approved (and charged on an annual basis). You have to pay even though you cancel the card. Generally, banks do not pay or waive this tax for you.

Unfortunately, the government tax is actually imposed by the government, not the bank and all banks do charged this tax upon card approval.

How is that a nonsense ? At least they are offering you a cash incentive to pay for the credit card tax. Many other banks such as Maybank and CIMB Bank don't offer such deal. Besides, with everything so expensive now, it couldn't be any easier to spend RM350 in two months. Just use your card at all the places that accept credit card. We all do that biggrin.gif

I rather pay RM50 than to pay addtional RM300 or maybe more just to get that refund. They might issue other charges..
I can get better cash back with my UOB card than AMB.
2% cash back and is subject to minimum amount blocks is no good compared to UOB.

I can get better cash back with my UOB card than AMB.
2% cash back and is subject to minimum amount blocks is no good compared to UOB.

So you shouldn't have applied for the card in the first place. And whether or not you will be charged by other things is up to your payment pattern and how much you pay by your credit card due date each month.

You paid RM50 and get nothing
You paid RM300 for a pair of Levi's Jeans, you get a nice pair of jeans + RM50 waiver

Again... it's your money icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif

I also call to cancel my Petronas Visa yesterday. The CS ask me to 'self destroy' the card. icon_rolleyes.gif I have request to transfer all my TP as well.
Other than from the TP, how do we know the card is being cancelled? From M2U just looks like normal.

P/s: I have requested the CS to transfer my TP upon collecting my 2card, however until today nothing is done. So I ask thr CS, she said if the card still active, they can't adjust the TP.

No. You can however, only print it once every three months. You will need to bring your MyKad and of course your thumb.

really true what some ppl have been complaining on the difficulty cancelling ctb cc.

i have been a long term user, more than 10 years with this bank, and i will never use them anymore.

More than a week the cancellation form faxed in, account still active and no calls.

I called the cs and they just said card is still active and put me on hold for 10 mins to get thru the cancellation dept officer, but yet cant get thru.

Then the cs took said the cancellation officer is busy and will get them to call me back but no calls too.

Will email them and fax a letter this time to cancel this card!

Shall i cc a letter to bank negara?

Last time i cancel my citibank card by phone call. They called me after 3 days to confirm whether i want to call this card or not. U better forward this matter to BNM. When is your card anniversary month ? sometimes they keep on delaying so that they can charge RM50 tax into your statement and you have no choice but to use it for another year

Finally took a move to cancel the HSBC Mastercard.
The cs who handle the card cancellation is going to call back within one week.

Unbilled items include GST RM 50 (29/4/2012), possible to waive it if we cancel the card?

BTW, normal statement billing date is on every 28th of every month.

Just your existing credit card and IC ? But we can't apply for a new card using this method anymore since January this year.

Anyway, it depends on when the officer is going to submit your signed application form. You may have to make more than one or two phone calls to CIMB Bank for the next few weeks.

if you are not sure whether want or don't want, just reply will consider and reply asap. letting that person take your existing card to photocopy... you exposed your card details, cvv, address from application, basically everything. don't you think you have been compromised? Never let people take hold of your cards. your salary, he said will adjust means he will lie on your behalf on the application form.
normally, a good cc user will seal or cover the cvv, did you?

if you are not sure whether want or don't want, just reply will consider and reply asap. letting that person take your existing card to photocopy... you exposed your card details, cvv, address from application, basically everything. don't you think you have been compromised? check with credit card issuer whether you can settle your installment early or not without any charges. If there is any charges, then it is up to you whether u want to pay that extra charges

I have the same problem also. Using MBB Petronas with 0% ezpayment, balance is another 6 installments. They asked me to fax a letter to ezpayment to cancel the monthly installment and they will settle with the bank. After that then only I can cancel the card. I'm doubt it works - They just give me a Fax number without any other phone contact, and expect there are people who will processing it with my credit card number???

I have cancelled another HLBB card with 0% ezpayment. But that one no need to go thru such troublesome way.

Looks like I have no choice and wait until they charge me another RM50 government service tax.

Anyone with similar experience can share?

This is bizarre. I did cancel my HLB card and my CCRIS report is NOT showing the CC anymore but they still send monthly statement with zero balance.

Does this happens to anyone else?

HLB i remember too, they send me statement with zero balance for almost 1 year , I have to complain few times.

It was so easy with stanchart and citibank

Mind to explain how difficult it is to cancel your alliance bank card so that in the future, we as a user wont fall to their same trick again

I just realised my CIMB DA's anniversary is every year's 06.

Before they charge me again on the GST, can I cancel the card? I still have one more installment to pay, June is the final month. I can even pay the amount now and close everything.

If anyone has the similar encounter, please share or I'll call the CS soon. smile.gif

I haven't called CS yet. blush.gif
If I remember correctly, it was RM 50 for the early settlement fees. My installment is less than RM 200. sweat.gif
Anyway, will try to negotiate with CIMB to let me go without paying the fees.
However, I was charged with GST only in July's statement if I remember correctly. hmm.gif
If it is charged already, nothing much I can do... Looks like I have to continue using it for another year. doh.gif

I managed to call CS on my case. I still need to pay for the early settlement fees if I were to settle everything earlier.

Fortunately, he helped me to check that GST will not charge to my June statement yet, only on 21st July. biggrin.gif

So, I'm still in time to cancel my card after this last payment. rclxms.gif

1. not sure. Different bank different policy. Some charge you RM50 GST even before you activate the card already. Do call Bank CS to ask.
2. Yes, she can just cancel the card, but she must clear any outstanding balance including RM50 GST

i think u can check your online statement whether they have charged you GST or not. If yes, then just use it, if no then you can call their CS or go to any credit service kiosk to cancel it

Hi all, I just called citibank to cancel my credit card, according to CS, they won't provide any confirmation of cancellation in writting, but it will reflect in my next month statement? Is that the case? I'm just worried next month they would still charging me GST.

Before cancel your credit card
1. You must paid off the balance in full. (No outstanding balances)
2. Redeem all your credit card reward/Bonus points.
3. Cancel all the auto debit

What happen if I cancel the card without cancel off the auto debit?
Will it be charged to the credit card after cancellation?

If the auto debit is nullified automatically as I cancel the card, then I won't be necessary to inform the payee.

BTW, the auto debit is charged once per year.

For OCBC - call 1 300 88 5000 to cancel the card.
I did this on my Great Eastern Visa Gold before but keep my Great Eastern Master Gold because Visa's annual fee is higher than master's annual fee.
Than later they upgrade my Master Gold to Master Titanium.

You better cancel your auto debit because I have experience with stupid Standard Chartered card. I canceled my card without canceling auto debit but stupid standard chartered still allow auto debit .. At the end of the deal, since I have not given any letter of credit card closure, etc, I have no proof that I already cancel my card. So, I paid RM250 out of RM500++ and they issued me letter of clearance.

laugh.gif Same as mine, I cancelled on Saturday, one of the staffs called on Monday to persuade me to retain the card.
She also offered me 5000 points and I asked her what's the purpose with these points, I can't do much also. Then she said I had more than 8000 points, so plus these free points, I can offset my GST for another year. doh.gif
I told her, no thanks... I don't wish to keep this card anymore. So, in the end I redeemed a Franklin Covey's ballpen. sweat.gif

laugh.gif Same as mine, I cancelled on Saturday, one of the staffs called on Monday to persuade me to retain the card.
She also offered me 5000 points and I asked her what's the purpose with these points, I can't do much also. Then she said I had more than 8000 points, so plus these free points, I can offset my GST for another year. doh.gif
I told her, no thanks... I don't wish to keep this card anymore. So, in the end I redeemed a Franklin Covey's ballpen. sweat.gif

Today, I receive a call from CIMB cr card telemarketer, asking me whether I have any cards with them. Told yea have it and cut it about a year ago.
Then ask me bout my salary and would like offer me a card.

Decline them, and he ask me what's the reason behind and told him that if you do your homework on cr cards available in the market, there's got many good cr card which offer better rebates. laugh.gif

Then he told me baru work as telemarketer. doh.gif

But if one did not cancel the cc in the last month and instead cancel it 2-3 months before the gst month, then you can use the 5000 points they offer, spend RM25 and then cancel it before paying for the gst.
That's what I did for my SC cc tongue.gif

Your information here is great on ways to cancel credit card. But it is better to go to bank and cancel your credit card personally to make it safe.

SC Malaysia - your credit card reward program is just ridiculous! 67,000 points for a RM50 voucher??? You are getting from bad to worse.

I cannot believe that you have discounted all the benefits including reward points.

"We will also be temporarily making unavailable 360° Reward Points on local and foreign currency spend for all Standard Chartered credit cards, meaning no points will be awarded for credit card spends until further notice."

Can you please help us to terminate our credit cards too?

Do you still get any benefits with the Pref WMC? Do you still remember whether it is eligible for 2 years annual fee waiver when you applied for it? I am choosing between this or Plat MC to retain and hold the Choice Points.

Hong Leong Bank will actually send you a letter to inform that your CC cancellation has been approved.

the balance we say here is not the amount you see in the monthly statement, as you opt in 12 installment so the monthly statement just show the monthly payment, the balance we say here is the total of rest 11 monthly installment, i.e. outstanding balance. you must clear off the outstanding balance thereby you may request to cancel the card

i m not sure if there is any early termination charge, i.e. penalty, you may check with the bank on this matter (pls share here after you check rclxms.gif ).

y hav to pay the penalty?
it is similar with mortgage loan. There is a lock in period, if u settle your loan in the lock in period, you may pay for early termination fee, guessing that same practice apply on credit card. but it is just guess, you better do check with bank.

I have canceled my Alliance Bank Credit Card last year in January at one of the Alliance bank branch.

I happened to attend a BNM talk in June and found that in BNM record, I am still the holder of the Alliance Bank credit card.

BNM officer advise me to call Alliance Bank to ratify the error and when I call the card center, they claimed that they never received instruction to cancel my card.

Please ensure that you call the card center to check whether your credit card has been canceled even you have submitted your cancellation at the respective branch,

This is for safeguard purposes because you never know who else will have your card information.

haha.. calm down.. Yea , SC card currently no benefit/point rewards/cash back at all.. Just keep it for emergency use only lor since they are giving high CL. Wait for anniversary month, terminate it if they dont want to OFFSET gst.
*
SC used to have high CL, in my case was RM10k. and yes, useful for emergency. but this year, they decrease my CL to only RM3400 vmad.gif , while UOB give me CL of RM 5k.

Since no more benefit/point rewards/cash back, will surely terminate it, before the GST.

Hey, today two cc agents came to my office, HLB and RHB.

To cut the story short, I signed those two for CC and the fotocopied my IC. They asked for my payslip but I was busy that time and told to email them later.

Now I'm home, I kinda dont want both cc.

Can they possibly submitted the forms if I havent given my payslip? Is there any possibility to proceed with cc process without the payslip and only my IC?

Its a must to get the confirmation letter in writing of card cancellation.

I've cancel 2 card more than 6 month already but still didn't get the cancellation letter. The one that stop is their monthly bill.

not really, me also have cancel a few credit card without receiving any letter...one way to confirm is to check on your CCRIS...if the card card number appear in it after 6 months, you can straight away report it to BNM...let BNM call the bank... biggrin.gif

I cancelled cards from 2 banks before, Citibank and UOB, both sent me letter to confirm that my card is cancelled. So, I guess its the norm rather than exception. smile.gif

I refer back to my previous year's statement. The GST was charged on 24Apr to my credit card. If I cancel now, still ok right?

Add: Statement cycle every 19th of the month.

You can cancel via SCB Online Banking page... ;-)

SCB has 0.5% rebate is you use the ChoicePoints redemption method.
SCB Business Visa has 0.5% + 0.5% (ChoicePoints Redemption)

Standard chartered credit card cancel is really problem.
Here how it is going:

15-March-2013 -settle remaining amount, and fill up form to cancel card at Kajang branch. and promise call me back in 7 working days.
Then waiting, never call me back.
1-April-2013 -call to their platinum no only find out my card was never cancel!!! I was like huh?!?!!?!! I submit the cancellation request.
They promise call me back in 3 working days for card cancellation.
I wait, never call me back.
3-April-2013 -call again their platinum no, ask me wait again.
6-April-2013 -got call from price solution. say already waived my RM50 gov tax. I was surprised again? Not cancel my card, but I was told my card was not cancelled but waived government tax?

LOL....is this service provided by Standard Chartered Bank?

If you are very sure that you never apply for the card, then you should bring up this matter to the bank. If the bank insist that you applied, request them to show evidence. Make everything in black and white, ie email.

After this, he request for pin number, but I totally forgot about it even question mark what is the pin for mine. After that he just verify some detail from me since cannot provided PIN number...

After all, told me that someone will call me within 10 working days

you still need to call to cancel.
activation is only so you can charge the card, even without activation your card still exist in their system

Previously, I also experience this with HSBC card. Applying for SC, but got HSBC. doh.gif
Then, I let it rot without usage.

Near to one year, the give a letter and ask me to use the card, or else the card will be cancel.
After 1 year, they give me another notice to use the card in the time frame of 6 month.
Only after that they cancel the card.

So, basically it need around 2 years for the card to be cancel by itself, and 2 years is too long, afraid someone might wrongly used our card information. So, if don't need it, just cancel it right away.

CS mentioned will call back within 10 working days, now already 12 days and I have make a called 2 times already, they still havent call back to me. mad.gif

So, just went to HSBC branch, I was requested to cancel the card from there, but the staff told me that they cannot cancel it due to the GST has been charge to my card, so you need to call back to CS and question back to them.

I asked back the staff (branch), I was called to CS cancel my card since 19/4, so the GST can be waiver due to this reason? (the GST is charge on May)

Staff told me, is depend on the CS there and advice that kindly remember the name of the telephone officer, so that it will be easy to refer back to if there is something wrong there.

Going to make the call to CS and ask about this again.

Anyone encounter this issued?

I call in just now then call centre confirm to me that my card has been cancelled (it sounds like not the process I known) but I am fine as long as long my request has been entertained  tongue.gif

My experience

Had just cancelled my Public Bank card. Call the customer service, answer some questions regarding the card for security, and done. Not even 5minutes. rclxms.gif

Got some money left, said to send a letter later on when the statement regarding the cancellation arrived.

Well, for some bank, if you cancel the cc, they would call back to you for reason and trying to retain you with GST/Annual Fees waiver. If you really DO NOT want the card, just tell them that you don't want to use that card anymore. Unless you wanna to get the offer for GST/Annual Fees waiver.

Well, my concern is, at the beginning, try avoid applying too many cards. =)
Do research before apply card. For me, 2 credit cards, one master, one visa is more than enough already. =) Hehehehe

sometimes, it may take 3-5workings day to proceed on cancel your credit card.
But from what you mention, perhaps you need to call to customer service for cancellation as I'm afraid your cancellation letter is miss out sending to HQ for proceed on cancellation. =) Customer Service able to block your credit card temporary for being used by others

sorry, i forgot to update the status, u r right smile.gif

i went to the branch last week to check and like u said, they lost my cancellation request, they couldn't find my cancellation on the file where they keep all the records of stuff sent to HQ/processing dept. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

so i show them the photocopy of my cancellation form n my card, the officer faxed and called HQ on the spot to cancel it.
when i reach home, i see the card status is "Cancelled" in online banking.

Guys,
Since this is a thread for CC cnacellation, i Hope someone could shed some light over my concern over here. Can we get some rebate/discount if we pay of credit card in full amount from the bank? I am not really sure about this but i have heard that there are some banks which gives you some rebate if you pay a lump sum. Have anyone experience this? I am trying to settle my BSN card but they keep insisting that i need to pay them in full, let say the amount is RM12 433. I am sure they should be able to give me some discount right? If anyone have done this or have any better suggestion on how to approach to get the discount , plz let me knw. I appreciate your help.

1) what your question has to do with cc cancellation?
2) if you settle your loan earlier in full, you may save on some interest. but if you settle your cc amount in full, that is what you must. and if you fail to do so, you will be charged with late payment charges as well as interest.

I mean pay lump sum to the balance and cancel the card.
2) if you settle your loan earlier in full, you may save on some interest. but if you settle your cc amount in full, that is what you must. and if you fail to do so, you will be charged with late payment charges as well as interest.

Yes, correct. Just checking whether is possible for a reduction or not.

IMO, the rumor you hear should be the case that person who declared bankruptcy and seek for AKPK assistance to be facilitator deal with bank for debt the person owe. Meanwhile, if you look at the T&C that has stated that it is your responsible to pay additional charge (interest incurred) on the outstanding balance you did not pay in full for every monthly statement.

Hi, I just wonder i did read this article http://www.maybank2u.com.my/WebBank/BNM_faq120112.pdf on the 2nd last page, no.15, it's stated that
15. Do I need to settle my outstanding balances immediately, if I choose to cancel my credit
cards with Maybank?

• No. You will be given a 2‐year period to settle your balances. You will also be given the
option of settling the amount under the same repayment plan prior to the card being
cancelled or restructure your card balances.

is this true?did anyone have cancel their CC with maybank without settle your balances immediately?

Currently I have just cancelled HSBC Gold card in branch uptown, this is so easy by request them to be terminated it and it only took less than 5 min.

Before went to commercial branch, I have visit quite few times the branch at 1u, and requested for PIN number and ended up there is still pending for my case few months. Since then no feedback from them again and this card no benefit to me, so just request for cancellation.

Actually there is the service related to Amanah banking, I would say if related to amanah cc issued, you can pay a visit there. Otherwise, you can go to commercial branch to process for your request rather go to Amanah branch.

these were the new set of guidelines from bnm on 18/3/11 regarding credit card.
this no.15 faq means that if you were holding many credit cards and were affected by these new rules at that time, you need to terminate your extra credit cards.
let's say you have more than 2 credit cards but is earning less than rm36k, so you can only choose to keep 2 cards and terminate the rest.
so for the extra cards that you need to terminate, you don't have to settle the outstanding balances immediately, as it will be unfair for those who have outstanding balances in many cards.
so they were given a 2-year period (from that time) to settle those balances after cancelling the cards.
this means that by april 2013, you need to have fully settled all outstanding balances of those cards which you have terminated.

and for now, this no.15 faq is no longer applicable as it is only referring to that time when this new rules/guidelines takes effect. icon_rolleyes.gif

hi, just wanna ask, if bank calls up and ask if interested to signup for their credit card, and unfortunately said yes, is it considered as a proper Credit Card application? My wife received the credit card already, but not activated. It is not her intention to get the card though. Is it possible to cancel it? Not long after receiving the credit card, the bill of RM50 reached. How to cancel it and not paying that RM 50? It is from CIMB.

Hi, i have been using this standard charterd CC for few years and decided to cancel it. I found that it is quite tedious to make payment since their branches is not easily accessible and very few.

May i know is it possible to cancel the CC at their saadiq branch?

I would prefer walk-in for this CC card cancellation instead of through phone. Felt unsecured.  laugh.gif

Thanks in advance.
*
I suppose u can walk in and just hand over your cancellation letter.

But have u considere internet banking to pay your credit cards bills. The cost is only 10 sen compared to 65sen (50 + 15) using cheques

The thing is I don't have any saving accounts with standard chartered. I think I can't make online payment from other bank to stan chart credit card, or can I?

Anyway, I have decided to cancel the CC since I seldom use it plus I need to pay the yearly government service tax (RM50) or whatsoever.

Just for your info, yes you can do IBG transfer from other banks to pay your CC. 10 cents only.

Previously, I cancel stan chart CC by email only.
Just need to wait their call to confirm.
I also paid monthly through maybank2U. Still got stan chart online service, just for checking stuff.

Simple, just send an email to Bank Negara. The same thing for the marketing materials, I managed to get my name completely removed from their marketing database (another bank).

usually, when bank negara receives a complaint, it will forward to the bank. The bank will have to address the issue and respond to the customer and cc to bank negara within 2 weeks.

for my case, the contact person (bank) followed up diligently and ensured that my name is removed from all marketing channels.

let me guess...
1) to prove the cimb instant card issuance service
2) to go for a collection of different credit cards
3) to get the free gifts
4) got cheated by the promoters
5) all of the above

let me guess...
1) to prove the cimb instant card issuance service
2) to go for a collection of different credit cards
3) to get the free gifts
4) got cheated by the promoters
5) all of the above

I know why.......
The 50% rebate (up to max RM250) on your First Purchase end today (31/12/2013).

Interesting. What is your motive, to apply and cancel on the spot?  hmm.gif
*
I'm being cheated by the 'CIMB staff' without realizing she is a credit card agent! Went there stated my intention to apply for credit card under RM250 cash back promo, after 2 hours go and collect credit card was told by the customer service only eligible for RM50 cash back as the person who assist me is an agent! How can this happen in their card centre? They allow credit card agents to con their customers in the branch. It is ridiculous! Called their card service hotline, no answer, then cancelled it immediately.

it's better if you report her as the reason you cancelled the cc.
i think it's not the centre's fault, it's this agent trying to get some easy successful application since the people who comes in by themselves are those who interested to apply the cc, sp the rejection rate for her will be lower as compared if she go around other places asking randomly for people to sign up.
since they gave you the rm50 cash back, you can also use it to strike off the rm50 gst when cancelling.
you have a valid reason to cancel and just insist on it that the agent is unethical to have done this to you.

I also cheated by RHB agent at Tesco. So I told the CS that I'm demanding to cancel the applied card with the solid of reason that the agents are promoting the card with expired promotions.

Happened to me also. I faxed 2x my notification to cancel which someone called me to persuade me not to cancel which I refused and they said they will proceed to cancel but still, next month, I still receive Statement showing GST and AF owing.

So in my 3rd Cancellation, I said

"If I ever receive another Statement showing that I still owe Citi money, I will make formal complaint to BNM"

That did the trick.

If the amount in your CC is negative/positive, it will not close. Better call the CS again.

i canceled my card earlier with PB ... quite efficient and fast though ..

but when cancel with HSBC, abit hassle, keep persuading and asking not to cancel. I told them i cut the card already.. then the staff speechless and reluctantly agreed and card terminated in a few clicks i think as he informed.

better check ur CCRIS.
in my case i applied for UOB card, but the card never reached me even for the replacement.
when i want to apply for loan, noticed that my CCRIS is failed, hence loan was declined.
so went to BNM to check CCRIS and saw that i have outstanding of RM50, while the card has been inactive.
then went to UOB HQ to cancel the card in Nov, but until now still haven't received confirmation letter. vmad.gif
tomorrow will call the HQ again to check on the status

1) yes, it takes time to revert back the money to you
2) at the same time, if you want, you may file a dispute with your cc bank. they will investigate this issue and will eventually push the other side to revert faster

Guys, I have a question. I want to cancel my ambank cc. according to this thread I need to call the ambank customer service. There's a few number that I have called 03-20546688, 1300 80 8888, 03-2178888 but the problem is the operators are engaged everytime and have to wait. At 1 time I have to wait even 30 min before running of my patience and hung up.

I have also walk to the nearest ambank branch but the staf just give the customer service no. Do you guys know other way to cancel the cc. Its getting annoying....

Just fax the termination letter.

If no action being taken, lodge a complaint to Bank Negara, stating date of the fax, the dates that you made attempt to contact their customer service and that you have even went to the branch.

Guys,

If I have yet to activate my CIMB card but there's charges of GST + late charges incurred total up to RM60, can I get it cancelled?

I've been trying to get this card cancelled since beginning of February 2014 because I was misinformed by the CS when the card was offered to me (because I applied for housing loan). He did not informed me that I'll need to swipe 3 times to waive the RM50.

When I received the first statement, then only I noticed and I make a call and apparently they are "investigating" whether my claim are true or not. Till now I've yet to receive any response and it has been a month. I've tried calling 3 times in Feb to find out and the same old answer they have been telling me "still under investigation".

If CIMB deny my cancellation, can this issue be brought up to Bank Negara? I've emailed CIMB in 5th March and cc to Bank Negara too. Yet to get any calls from CIMB.

when you being offered a cc, you should know that there's a rm50 gst to be imposed. if the cs did not inform that you need to swipe 3 times to offset the gst, which means you know that the bank is not absorbing the gst and you need to pay the rm50? hmm.gif

when you being offered a cc, you should know that there's a rm50 gst to be imposed. if the cs did not inform that you need to swipe 3 times to offset the gst, which means you know that the bank is not absorbing the gst and you need to pay the rm50?  hmm.gif

I was told that the GST will be absorbed by the bank and he did not mentioned that I'll need to swipe 3 times in order for them to do so.

My concern now is, can the card be cancelled even the RM50 + late charges has been imposed? The card is yet to be activated.

most probably negative for gst. once the cc is approved, gst will be imposed to the bank and bank will transfer the cost to the user. however, retail interest or finance charges or late charges are more possible to be waived by the bank upon request.

I managed to get my card cancelled with GST + late fees charges totaled RM60. I guess they've decided to cancel it because I've been making too much of hoo haa for the past 1 month tongue.gif
