davidgary73 and myself will be editing and updating this thread from time to time, as we deem fit and suitable.

This thread will cover mostly from a Windows user perspective as majority of the users are essentially on that platform. For your information, both of us (davidgary73 and myself) are MAC users; just in case you are wondering if we are attempting to discriminate/sideline MAC users . Furthermore, iTunes is already the MAC's innate multiplayer afterall, and it would be rather embarrassing if you don't know the basics

SECTION A: GENERAL iTUNES RELATED QUESTIONS

Q: How do I set up my own personalised iTunes Account? "iTunes is not available in my country"?
A: For this part, kindly head to a current, existing thread; Section 'A' : An Introduction To Your Phone, 2. Set Up An iTunes Account

Q: Can I use my Malaysian credit card to purchase another country's iTunes gift certificates, iTunes gift card, redemption code?
A: No. As each credit card is being issued uniquely to its provider (kindly refer to SECTION D: TOPPING UP YOUR ITUNES ACCOUNT for more information)

Q: How do I authorise/deauthorise my iTunes account on PC/MAC?
A: For this part, I will lead you to the Apple's site for more information. For your information, one iTunes account can authorise up to 5 PC/MAC. Hence it is essential for you to deauthorise a PC/MAC before reformatting it.

Q: Why do I need to authorise/deauthorise my iTunes account?
A: Simple. To protect the copyrights on the content you buy. However with the introduction of DRM-free tracks on the iTunes store, this part is becoming less relevant.



Q: Can I use my iTunes account on multiple iPhone/iPod peripherals?
A: Yes, you can. As a matter of matter, both of my iTunes accounts are currently linked to my iPhone and iPod Touch. By linking them up, it means that you can now use a purchased content across these peripherals.

Q: Assuming that I intend to format/reinstall the operating system on my PC/MAC, do I need to backup the contents of my purchased contents (for example music, videos, movies et cetera) off the iTunes store?
A: Oh, yes. However, you will be pleased to know that, with Apps (from the App Store), you can actually re-download them again at no extra cost. This also implies that you can, technically re-download previously purchased Apps with your other iPhones/iPod Touch(s) (provided they carry your proposed and sychronised iTunes account).

SECTION B: ORGANISING YOUR MUSIC (AND ITS OWN RESPECTIVE ALBUM ARTWORK)

Q: Can I add music from another PC/MAC, which is not my default one? For example, adding music using my friend's computer?
A: No (not with the iTunes at least).

Q: Can I retrieve music out of my iPhone? For example, sharing it with a friend?
A: No (not with the iTunes at least).

Q: How can I add my own music to my iPhone?
A: In order to do that, follow this sequence:
1. Create a playlist.
2. Drag tracks from Library -> Music (the column on the right)
3. Plug your iPhone into your computer via the USB cable.
4. Wait your iPhone to appear under "Devices" (the column on the right).
5. Click on the "Music" tab.
6. Select your desired folders.
7. Synchronise


Q: How can I add album artworks to my music?
A: There are three ways to do that
First method: Obtain an iTunes account first (see Section A). On the top left corner, Advanced -> Get Album Artwork
Second method: Google the desired album artwork image and save it up. Click the bottom left corner (To "Show or hide artwork and video viewer). Drag or copy/paste the image to the white screen.
Third method: Right click (for Windows) the desired track, and select the Artwork tab. Click "Add"


Q: I did exactly what was prescribed above, but my album artwork still does not appear on my iPhone.
A: Plug your iPhone back and remove that particular track from your the playlist. Synchronise thereafter. Make sure that the track is no longer there (in your iPhone). Now, add that very same track (with album artwork) back to the playlist and sychronise again.



Q: The methods prescribed above sounds extremely tedious and laborious. Do you have another alternative method?
A: As a matter of fact, I do. davidgary73 has suggested this website. To find out more about this, kindly read the instructions imprinted on their website. Good luck!

SECTION C: ORGANISING YOUR PHOTOS AND PICTURES

Q: Can I add pictures from another PC/MAC, which is not my default one? For example, adding pictures using my friend's computer?
A: No (not with the iTunes at least).

Q: How can I add my own pictures to my iPhone?
*Please create new folders and place your selected pictures in it.
A: In order to do that, follow this sequence:
1. Plug your iPhone into your computer via the USB cable.
2. Wait your iPhone to appear under "Devices" (the column on the right).
3. Click on the "Photos" tab.
4. Select your desired folders.
5. Synchronise



Q: How do I retrieve the pictures taken from "Camera Roll"?
A: Using the provided USB cable, plug in your iPhone and wait for the characteristic Windows' USB-device-detected sound. A pop up window will shortly ensue.

Q: What if the prescribed method above does not work i.e. no pop up window?
A: This has happened to me once and I had to resort to a full restoration of my iPhone. However, before rushing into that, try plugging your iPhone to another PC/MAC first.

Q: How to place contact pictures to Caller ID?
A: Use Addressbook for Mac ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2486 ) and Outlook for Windows ( http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/...0137791033.aspx ) to place the contact pictures.

SECTION D: TOPPING UP YOUR iTUNES ACCOUNT

Q: Since I cannot use my malaysian credit card to purchase another country's iTunes gift certificates, iTunes gift card, redemption code, can I ask a friend (from that country) to help me to obtain one?
A: Legally, you cannot but technically you can (due to copyright and iTunes stipulated terms and conditions. Furthermore majority of the users here are using the American version anyway).

Q: I got no credit card, can i register for iTunes ? And how do i purchase game without credit cards ? Is there another solution to it ?

Q: Recently, I saw this incredible deal on XYZ, where I can purchase USD50 for only RM50. I mean how cool is that?
A: There is no such as a free lunch and yes, that is a scam. Chinese hackers have figured out a way to generate iTunes gift card keycode numbers and therefore this constitutes as fraud. Apple is less than lenient to "exonerate" your mistake and not to mention attempting to refund your balance/unblock your account. To read more about this phenomenon, kindly point your browser here.

Q: What happens if Apple suspends my account?
A: You will have to write and explain to them and hopefully things will work towards your advantage. If your account gets suspended, you cannot update your applications (purchased from the App Store) anymore.
Fellow member, teikwing (Post number 144) has also added this and I quote "To re-enable your iTunes account, head to iTunes Store Support page and liase with one of the iTunes Support staff on iTunes Live Chat. Time 8am-8pm US time. iTunes account re-enable in 15-20 minutes."

Q: So, if there is so much hassle to get them, what do you recommend then?
A: In my personal opinion, I reckon that you should just stick with the Malaysian iTunes store, or if you have a friend/associate from the desired country, you can ask him/her to purchase them for you. However if you are keen on the Australian iTunes store, I may be able to help (personal discretion applies and for more information go to post number 2167).

Q: How do I redeem these iTunes gift certificates, iTunes gift card, redemption code?
A: There are two typically used methods:
First method: via iTunes
Second method: via iPhone (on the native iTunes application, bottom right tab "Downloads" and then top left corner Redeem)



Q: Does iTunes US gift card credit has expiry dates/time?
A: Nope.. no expiry date/time.

SECTION E: CREATING MORE THAN ONE iTUNES ACCOUNT

Q: As the title above suggests, is it even possible?
A: Yes, it is. As a matter of fact, I am currently using both the American and Australian iTunes store accounts, simultaneously together.

Q: Excellent news, now how do I do that?
A: The same rule applies; proceed to SECTION A: GENERAL iTUNES RELATED QUESTIONS.

Q: Now, I did observe that I can only have one iTunes account synchronise on my iPhone. So how can I possibly juggle two accounts?
A: This step is relatively confusing and I do hope that I could convey myself right here. So in order to facilitate this better, I will use this scenario as an example: Assuming that I have two iTunes accounts here, X and Y. I have X logged on, on both the iTunes (on your PC/MAC) and the iPhone and I want to use Y on my iPhone when I'm not in front of my PC/MAC
1. On your PC/MAC, click on your Apple ID to login (top right corner)
2. Enter your credentials.
3. Once successful, plug your iPhone via the USB cable and "Sync"
4. You will now, realise that Y is your primary iTunes account on your iPhone.


Q: Oh man, what if I need to use the X account desperately and I'm not within the grasp of my PC/MAC?
A: There is one very tedious method, but it will definitely work. I have found this method by accident when I was fiddling around. Account Y was initially synchronised on my iPhone and one of the applications purchased from the X store had an update. So I proceeded to update that application and I was required to enter my X's Apple ID alongside my password. Upon a successful login, X was then my iPhone's primary iTunes account. However, if there is no applications to update, then the prescribed method will not work

SECTION F: VIDEO CONVERSION

There are many other feasible ways to do your favourite video conversion the your iPhone. However over in this section, we are just gonna point out some of our favourites.

Q: So, what are the recommended softwares for PC/MAC then?
A: For windows, we will definitely recommend Videora whilst for MAC, it is either Quicktime Pro or HandBrake ( http://www.handbrake.fr/ ). The suggested compression is - File Format: MP4, Video Format: H.264, Data Rates: 960-1000 kbits/sec, Audio Format: AAC

Q: My computer is really a slow machine and these video conversations do take a toll on it. Is there any other suggestions?
A: My personal favourite is actually from ZAMZAR. It is online based, so you basically upload your videos to the said website. Once the conversation has been completed, they will then e-mail you a link to download it. Best of all, it is free and works with both PC/MAC! To demonstrate this bit, I will use an example where I'm going to convert a YouTube video directly (without the use of any software)
1. Get the URL of your desired YouTube video.
2. Select the type of output (in this case, the iPhone)
3. Type in a valid e-mail address.
4. Summit!
5. Wait for approximately 10 minutes for a link to be sent.
6. Download the file (dependent on your connection speed)
7. Synchronise the video into your iPhone the usual way.



Q: How to play my video that i uploaded to the iPhone? Which Application? I can't find the application? (Unbelievable question but there are ppl asking such question )
A: iPod app. Read the iPhone Manual, Chapter 8.

SECTION G: COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How to SYNC Microsoft Outlook with iPhone
Prepare your Outlook:
1. Open Microsoft Outlook
2. Click on Tools >Options and click on “Others”
3. Check the box “Set Outlook as default program for messaging, contacts and calendars”
4. Click on OK

In Windows Vista:
1. Go to menu start and select “Default Programs”
2. Select “Set your defaults programs”
3. In the window part, select Microsoft Outlook and on the right click “Set this program as default program”
4. Close the window and click on OK.

In iTunes v8.1 above
1. Click on “iPhone”
2. Look in "INFO" tab.
3. Tick the contact, calendar, Mail Account

If this is ur first attemp to sync the information to the iphone
Look in Advance... Tick the item you want..
It will overwrite/ replace in ur IPHONE.

2. Transfering your applications to a new Computer
Option 1. You get to re-download all the purchased app from iTunes for free if you happen to move to a new computer or lost all your previous data. iTunes/iPod/iPhone will prompt you that you already purchased the app, and do you want to re-download it for free. (credit wei)

Option 2. From Mac or PC, copy the entire "Mobile Applications" folder into an external storage device, an external HDD or a thumb drive. Plug that external storage device into your Mac or PC, and open the folder. Leave that Finder window open, and run iTunes. Sign in into your iTunes account. Then drag-and-drop ONE app, from that "Mobile Applications" folder on that external storage device, into your Mac or PC iTunes. It should copy over into your Mac or PC iTunes library, which answers that question of yours whether it recognizes your PC or PC iTunes file format or not. Then try and sync your iPod Touch to it. If it installs the app over, then it works. Drag-and-drop all the other apps from that external storage device, to your iTunes on your new Mac or PC, and sync your iPod Touch/iPhone to get all the apps back into it.

Malaysia iTunes accepts Malaysian credit cards but only for Applications. For the rest(movies, songs ,etc) you still need the American iTunes Store.

5. Malaysia iTunes and US iTunes
Most Applications and Games are available thru US iTunes AppStore and not all Applications/Games are available in M'sia iTunes Appstore. All Applications and Games in M'sia iTunes AppStore are in US currency.


6. Can i buy applications/games and credit it to my phone bill? [asked by forumers]
NO. You can't. You can only buy applications/games through iTunes.


7. AppStore applications need to purchase?
There's free and purchase applications/games. Head to iTunes Appstore for more info.


8. Can i use PayPal to purchase applications/games with Malaysia Credit Card?
NO you can't. You must have a valid US address and a US bank account in order to use Paypal to purchase applications/games via AppStore. You can't transfer money to your US Paypal with M'sia Credit Card to purchase applications/games.


9. Share iPhone Applications?
A1: Yes you can. As long as both iPhones or iPod share the same Apple ID user and password iTunes account. You're able to share the applications free or purchased. No extra payment needed.

A2: It's a little-known fact that iPhone applications can be shared amongst family members or a select few trusted friends. The process is similar to that of sharing purchased songs within iTunes, and goes something like this:

Make sure the Application you wish to share is on your computer. If you downloaded it directly to your iPhone, you must first sync with your computer to copy it there.
On the computer which has the Application in question, open iTunes, go to Applications, find the app you wish to share, right (or control-) click it, and choose "Show in Finder."
Copy the file shown to the second computer (i.e. the computer that syncs with the iPhone on which you'd like to share this application).
Drag the Application file into iTunes on the second computer, then double-click it within the Applications section of iTunes.
Give iTunes the password of the requested iTunes Store Account -- this will be the account from the first computer you originally used (in Steps #1 and #2)
Sync the iPhone with the second computer.
That should do it. You now will have the App in question on both iPhones, and it should work perfectly. Again, this is similar to the music purchased on the iTunes store and will only work on up to 5 other computers.

Setting up an US itune acc is no longer possible after Apple removed the 'NONE' as the payment method. Rumour said that by installing older ver of Itune will fix it. Tested with 8.0.1. Not working too.

Any idea?

just got myself one yesterday. erm i confuse.. i read other's guide and asked me to register itune using US address.. but then should i register my iPhone using that account?

or should i just follow the rule and create Malaysia account and put my credit card number?

Maxis guy told me can put my maybank debit card number.. but i tried and iTunes said the number is wrong..

u sure about this? ive tried it thousand of times and it works but im on itunes 8.0.
try this method:

1.open itunes
2.go to top free apps
3.click the free apps
4.when u click get apps, it will prompt a windows asking about ur username and password, click create account
5.after clicking create account, there's the terms and conditions and rules and regulation bla... bla.. bla..., just click agree and next
6.create account using valid email, password and then ur question and answer and ur birthday
7. click next and u'll find the NONE button by the far right of ur screen. select that.
8.Just fill all the forms and dont forget use valid US address (try google it)
9.dah siap dah!

No problem in using a malaysian iTunes account. The only drawback to this is you can only access local content i.e only apps from the appstore. Even then, you won't find all apps are available in our local appstore. Some apps are country specific. So if your main use of iTunes is getting apps thats available locally then by all means register the malaysian account.

But if you want to access all content i.e all apps, songs, movies, tv series etc, then you need US iTunes account. The only drawback is that you need to top it up with iTunes Credit. You can't link the account with our local CC (but if i'm not mistaken, they also take paypal).

About the debit card, I don't think iTunes accept debit card.

so meaning it's up to me to choose with account i wanna register. actually now i already register US iTunes account, without a credit card number. erm and i am thinking for the time being i just wanna take advantage of free application first.

but what makes me worry is, when i first connect my iPhone to my pc, and iTunes asked me to register the phone. I am worry if my iPhone is registered to the US account which is using an address who is not mine will it void my iPhone warranty by Maxis / Apple Malaysia?

if no, i'll continue using the US account.

You won't void your warranty by registering with US iTunes acc may it be a Maxis, Singtel, NZ iPhone. Basically, it just authorized your iPhone to sync your applications, songs etc with your iTunes.

You're able to have 2 iTunes acc to work with your iPhone by following nokia2003 guidelines.

U can have more than 1 iTunes account. Which one you sync to or activate does not void the warranty.

i was browsing through my playlist yesterday and realised that one of the tracks didn't have an artwork attached to it. so i thought it will be a good idea to print screen the before and after results.

my prescribed method definitely works!

guys, how to delete restore data for my iphone.. i just got iphone replacement from maxis and when i click restore my iphone in the iTune, i see that my each contact number is double in the phone book. now i want to delete the restored data, then sync my iPhone with outlook contacts, then create backup my iPhone back in the iTune.. issit possible to do so?

i heard that the local itunes store have some limitation for downloads.. IF i activate my iphone 3g now with my current itunes account (malaysia), can i still link my phone later with a US account (My sis had an US account)

ur itunes account login will be automatically set to the very last time the itunes acc u synced with ur computer.

try checking out "SECTION E: CREATING MORE THAN ONE ITUNES ACCOUNT" but it may not work.

^ NO...its separate.
For Malaysians we only have Apps Store.. which you can use a Malaysia CC to purchase Apps only.
If u wanna get Music aswell, then u will need to register US iTunes acct, but to buy songs or apps, u will need to buy Gift Cards thru ebay or reload the account with a valid US CC.

if u are certain tat ur i3g is surely unlocked set, then go ahead n backup ur phone using itunes....
it'll back almost everyting

hi want to ask is iphone only limited to sync to one pc only? because i tried connecting my iphone to another pc just now, got error says syncing to different itunes library will need to erase my iphone contents only can sync.

How to SYNC Microsoft Outlook with iPhone

do you have any method on the Windows Address Book?

I have some question on that. Last year i sync my Iphone with WAB, but my brother sync his nokia handphone with that default account which was mine, and all my contacts got erased.

Now, all my contacts are still in my Iphone. I am worried when i press sync with WAB and all my contacts will be erased because it will sync an empty WAB into my Iphone. Will that happen?

Any sifu has any solution to my question ? Thanks alot

hmmm... i have never used WAB before to be honest. i have always been using microsoft outlook and when prompted by iTunes, i opt for "merged"

By following your guide would be fine right? I am totally worried about erasing those contacts.

Folders are not legally do-able on the iphone unless you jb it. I'm not telling you to jb your phone as it may cause your iphone to crash if done wrongly. Place your most common apps on your spring board and the ones that you don't normally use, don't "check" it at your next sync.

i try to sync the itunes and iphone.but each and everytime i try to plug in the iphone the internnet lost connection, so i can't sync...

is this problem cause by the usb port or the iphone

huh? how does your internet connection correlates with the synchronisation process? enlighten us please.

hmm i try to create my apple ID but everytime i try to plug in the iphone thru the usb on my PC, the internet connection will be lost...dunno what happen i already update the itunes.. but the prob still occur

I was trying to dowload free apps from itunes and I keep on getting this message:

"We could not complete your itunes store request. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again.

Have run the diagnostic and I have failed the secured connection part to iTunes.

What could be the solution?

I got a problem after buy application from itunes and resyn it to my iphone, while the app finished download to my iphone the pop up window appear said:

The application "HeavyMach" was not installed on the iPhone "Cafuheva iPhone" because it could not be verified.

But the application appear in my itunes, but can't transfer to my iphone. Need help from sifu here.

try check your spam folder? or restart the entire procedure again?

Last night, i reseted all settings in my iphone (2.2 FW). Today, when i plug in cable to sync with itunes, its not recognized by itunes anymore. I thought my cable or my PC having problems. so i try to sync my friend's iphone and his phone recognised by the itunes in my pc using my cable in a blink.

dammmm, until now, the itunes still wont recognize my iphone. What should i do? Anyone has experience this before? Please advise....

Having some problem...need help...in itunes normally you will mobile application on your top left hand side but for mine i dun see the mobile application....thus i am not able to install application to my iphone...

FYI, phone is bought is from anyone selling in LYN. is this due to my phone is not sync with newly downloaded itunes?

if i were to make a suggestion, i would suggest that you make a clean restoration. as a personal preference, i don't like using another person's customised iPhone.

My probs solved with enter the dfu mode and restore it to 2.2.1 and jailbreak it again. Now, detected by itunes.

haiya.. why i cant register US itunes account ? i tried and kat payment method takde pun tulis None ?? my itunes is 8.1.1(10) .. i need the US account to redeem my digital copy of blu-ray...

Now that the official iPhone is released, is there a way for us to purchase iTunes Gift Card locally? I'm still attached to US App Store and would like to remain that way but so far, the only way for me to fund it is via iTunes Gift Card. Anyone got a work around for it?

Hi guys,

I'm sharing a little info here. I've updated my iTunes to 8.1.1 yesterday. For some reason iTunes couldn't detect my iphone.

I figured out my pen drive was plugged in, so I removed it and replug in iphone cable too. It works after that.

Might or might not be the iTunes version prob but I'm sharing it here so if someone's iphone can't be detected, at least you know this is 1 of the reason.

depends on your built in usb hub to be honest.


my dell xps desktop has 8 usb ports and i utilised all of them. when i first got it, there were a lot of usb device "compatibilities" and i had to play "trial and error" games with it by randomising the ports.


for example, plugging out the printer from the first port, and then webcam et cetera.
