Finally, DiGi launch their 3G services on 21th Feb 2009, but the pricing and coverage are quite disappointed.

*sigh* tengok pricing pun dah tahu... I should stick with EDGE instead... I wonder how many celcom user will ditch to digi..

i want to see the progress of this new service and user feedback, and also waiting of digi revise their package so it'll create more competitive between mobile ISPs

If the speed is stable, no frequent dc, able to reach 7.2Mbps (dreaming~~), it worth for that price. If the service just like Maxis and Celcom, what for apply for it?

Btw, they didn't provide only Data SIM without the modem package?

DiGi will be just another small time isp in Malaysia which will not be able to take on the megabits challenge.
It would cost them a lot for international leased circuits, setting up their own fiber infrastructure backbone and data centres. It's going to be a hefty investment for them. When their subscriber grows, they'll face the same big problem of sustaining the service quality and ensuring that bandwidth is enough for everyone.

Look at Maxis, they already imposed line barring even after a few gigabytes of data traffic. How do you think DiGi a much smaller company can pull off a stunt better than them?

If your place don't have EDGE coverage, and u still wan the to promote u the Unlimited GPRS connection for RM66/month with 5kbps bandwidth? For sure they won't recommend that package for you, but u insist to subscribe, so ahead and enjoy the GPRS speed. smile.gif

Added on February 18, 2009, 7:48 pmEDGE customer currently still sticking to their EDGE service. No new from DiGI about the upgrades from EDGE.

The coverage is just so dissappointing. Zoom out to see the whole klang valley and only small area is covered. LoL

Oh btw, I think 10GB of data per month is the best so far offered by telco in Malaysia. If you really using it for 'mobile' stuff for sure you won't exceed the limit.

I actually hoping DiGi will release some packages with the same price with the current EDGE services, but i don't see any.

Ya, 10GB is sufficient since i use the mobile bb as secondary at my 4x 2mbps line at home as main.

Ya, if can, i dun wan to get HSDPA speed as changing from UMTS to HSDPA will like dc a while... Sometimes it keep changing from UMTS to HSDPA and UMTS again non stop. That's way i experience when using Celcom.

I wouldn't mind paying if they guarantee the service quality to be on top notch most of the time. Is there any best effort basis promise mentioned in the term and condition clause?

A friend of mine has been selected as a tester at Mutiara Damansara and he said that the speed was consistent between 2-4Mbps and sometimes peaked to 6Mbps. But the network is still unloaded thus the great speed. I am sure that the speed will go down to ~1Mbps when more people comes into the network.

For the price, I would prefer to pay the premium for a better service than Celcom and Maxis*. Premium means less people in the network, so less congestion. I would say this is smart move on DiGi's part to meet customer's expectations.

* I am still a Celcom daypass user since sometimes I have to work in areas where Maxis and DiGi does not even have coverage. I gave up on Maxis a long time ago.

Ya, when there is only a few user, the speed is great. Last time i heard b4, 1 HSDPA transmitter support only 10 users simultaneously. Is it ture?

What is everyone wants premium service and all subscribe it and throw away their maxis, celcom, u-mobile.... hmm.gif

After ur 1 year tenure, the commitment fee is still RM158 per month

Laptop RM999 only for first 100 mail drop invitation customers only <---- >_<"
Afetr that its way higher but still lower than the RRP price stated ad its only broadband only SIM (no voice calls)

So to those who would like to add the service into their existing postpaids during the promotional period, 1 word = Sorry

They still didn't provide data sim only or add 3g services to mobile phones? I can't find a thing in DiGi's website. sweat.gif

Actually DiGi's 3G coverage should be wide, i can almost detect DiGi 3G almost all area in KL, even my hometown, Kampar, i still detecting 3G signals.

Maybe really is a testing and the real thing would be big. thumbup.gif

If DiGi was able to run at almost full speed, let's say 6Mbps, and free a usb modem, with rm128/month. expensive? rolleyes.gif
*
thats for the promotional period....if launched worldwide, avg around 1mbps-3mbps depending on usages and locations

existing postpaid customers WILL not be able to add in the 3G service (even though within coverage areas) during the promotional period. They need to purchase the bundle packages. Only the sim cards that comes with the package bundle are 3g enabled. As for the type of sim cards (whether 64/128k), DiGi will let us know

Lets say u say run it on full 7.2Mbps, how long u need to reach the 10GB quota?

If u can dun on 7.2Mbps, don't tell me you wont download anything and just light surfing.

I prefer a stable connection rather than speed but dc every second. laugh.gif

Well, I guess it is already covered but have not been fully tested or something like that so it is better for them to not put areas that are not guaranteed to have yet in their list of coverage.

actually i didn't subscribe to maxis broadband because there was a very low cap. if you visit their website, it states:

To allow all our users to enjoy quality browsing experience, Maxis will not assure constant connectivity if you use peer-to-peer or file sharing software. You may use
up to 3GB of data volume per month. If you exceed this, Maxis reserves the right to throttle your speed and for very excessive usage, to cap your usage.

can any user confirm this?

Bro..that one is Maxis BB, the one that I'm using is Maxis Enhance Data Plan(Previously known as Internet2Go).
Regarding the 3GB capping..I've tested, I've downloaded 5GB of movies within one day no problem. thumbup.gif

but I'm not sure about Maxis BB though. Ive test it once and it was really bad...I end up refund back my money since Maxis allow us 1 week to test their BB.

If I'm not mistaken you will have to be using the 128k SIM card, I might be wrong though but if you were to use the 3G service you will have to upgrade to the 128k SIM card if you are still on the 64k one.

Sometimes i'll switch to 3g in many areas when i have very very low signal,
For example i go in jungles and i see my phone is on DiGi 3g, but no line also.

Hope DiGi covers nationwide and provide excellent service when their full launch.

Mine is 80 ringgit package, but every month I pay RM94.50, this is because all the small2 service that I activate such as roaming etc...

The way i see it...as long as the service is good i.e. no lagging..no service downtime..I don't mind paying extra..beside compare with Celcom their package is RM 98 (with capping 5GB) and I'm still waiting what DIGI has to offer in the future..because if they can provide something better..I might jump to DIGI tongue.gif (my current subscription don't have any 1 or 2 years bond)

P1 is gaining the momentum aldy to cover more areas
recently, puchong, bkt jalil, sri petaling and etc was covered
i reckon it will take Digi at least 3-4 more months to cover most of the KV areas.

i hope more competition means lower charges. the Digi 3G promo price is rm 128---> for first 6 months only, then is rm 158, a bit too high imho. pus that 10GB limit.

but one thing is my digi edge is very stable, very unlike siaocom 3G. maxi$ and wimax never try b4.
*
I hope that their 3G services will also like their EDGE. I dun need blazing fast connection, but a stable, moderate speed connection with a low price. drool.gif

Well technically speaking yes those previously covered by EDGE should be having 3G coverage as well but it is just a matter of time on when they be upgrading it.

ya i agree too but at least get an idea on which area is currently on EDGE and which are not
areas already on EDGE should be getting 3G faster than those that are not??????
but from the looks of the map it seems almost the whole KL/PJ/Klang area are on EDGE coverage which i think in reality it should be not true??????

DiGi EDGE service was really stable and many subscribers were actually happy because of the stability despite it is slower than a 3G service.

I notice at my area now. Digi is running test on 5.00 - 6.00 am.
If I switch my phone to only accept WCDMA signal with DIGI at this time.

I can connect with "W".

Nice one, just now I also port in to Digi 3G network with my 3G phone.

I restart the phone and set it only WCDMA until it get bar on the phone.

After open my case , I found out I have a 128k white Digi Sim.

So I wonder those subscribe Digi 3G also using this SIM ?

It hard also, I just get port Digi 3G network with currently Edge subscribe.

The connection is last 2 hours then get cut off.

Therefore, I have to restart my phone modem few time until I can hook in to Digi 3G WCDMA signal then continue using the 3G network.

the big problem is broadband connection will be throttled to 64kbps when the quota 10GB is breached.

come on digi spy. smaller u-mobile can offer better than 64kbps 'broadband'. RM49 P1 for 400kbps faster than rm158 digi 3g.

Nope, did I say the coverage is in Klang?
Don't misunderstand smile.gif

Coverage is in Damansara, SS2 and all those borders and etc only

I bought it because I want the laptop, not the broadband because I know Klang won't get it that fast

hmmm~~ got a news from DiGi..... hmm.gif

Good News~ to all DiGi Internet subscribers who subscribe during the soft launch at Ikano,
and the coming event at DC SS2 on 26th Feb – 28th Feb 09!

DiGi have decided to increase monthly quota usage from 10GB to 50GB
Besides that, customers will still be enjoying up to 7.2mbps speed within the 12 months contract.

Note: The above quota and speed is applicable only for customers who signed up during the soft launch campaign at Ikano and DC SS2

seriously i thought about signing up....
but after a while when emotions faded and logic starts to kick in, some of my views:
1) coverage is so limited for the time being, i dun live / work at taman tun, but i'm paying the full sum - rm128 for EDGE???
2) i dun need a laptop at rm999 with DUAL CORE processor only although it's cheap....
3) i'll be hooked to it for at least 12 months, or i have to pay rm600 to compensate...

so i've decided - wait for digi 3g unlimited data plan. i'll get my own modem laugh.gif

I'll make sure I just pay RM1855 for the whole thing after I terminate my subsription after 2 months

After all, I still gain hell a lot, I don't need the broadband anyway, I just need the laptop. RM999 + RM600 for the modem, retail price for both already hitting RM3K. I gain a lot smile.gif

I notice that , the limited quote is updated to 50GB per month.

Broadband Promo Package

Features
• Download speed: up to 3.6Mbps (FREE Trial of up to 7.2Mbps)
• Upload speed: up to 384kbps (FREE Trial of up to 2Mbps)
• Quota: 50GB (connection will be throttled to 64kbps when the
quota is breached)
• FREE Broadband E230 HSPA modem (with free MicroSD card)

Terms and Conditions
• Price: RM128/month for 6 months (normal price at RM158).
Price returns to RM158 after 6 months.
• Contract period: 12 months. Should the customer decide to terminate the service before the contract expires, an early termination penalty will be imposed at either the cost of the
modem (RM600) or the remaining balance of the contract value,
whichever is lower.
• Advance payment: 2 x monthly fee (RM256).
• FREE Trial of 7.2Mbps speed is at DiGi's discretion and valid for contract period of 12 months.

yah, the quota now at 50GB. nice

but still expensive lor.

Anyway, I doubt any current edge subscriber notice or not.
If you slot the Sim Card (White colour) in to any 3G enable phone.
You can force it hook in to Digi 3G and start using 3G broadband instead of EDGE.

I am doing it every day when I am in Digi 3G coverage and change my phone modem to only accept WCDMA signal. laugh.gif

then if you see 3G on the upper left corner even without bar, never mind.

Then try use pc suite dial *99#. It will let you go in Digi 3G network .

You can surf download even with no bar is shown, I am doing it now actually. laugh.gif

Looking at the posts made by DiGi Broadband 3G users, so far I've not seen any of them sharing the same IP at the moment. However, this cannot be a conclusion that it doesn't uses a shared IP as the amount of users now is minimal.

If you are able to pick up the 3G signal be it automatic or manual, you would probably be able to connect to it. Please correct me if my fact is wrong.

Those that are hidden and can only be found through manual search will usually be available soon as probably this stations are currently under beta testing at the moment.

I actually thought that if they were to give a short period of trail to certain people it would be really nice for them to be able to test it with more users especially heavy users. hmm.gif

First of all, your sim card needs to be tagged and also the APN has to be the correct 1 to access

As for current HSDPA users, the new APN is able to detect EDGE as well so there is no need to change the APN anymore

Think so, if you really can force go in to their 3G network.
where I am doing it now with my 3G phone.

Have to set few time to hooked in to 3G then fast fast dial up .
successfully rate is 100%.

My only 3G phone test speed.

Heard that you could subscribe to the pre-launch package at DiGi Center SS2. I also noticed that the coverage has expanded to PJ as well.

What I found today quite surprising.

My N81 (No HSDPA, but got UMTS) with EDGE sim card able to detect 3G at Kota Samarahan, Sarawak.

It starts when the network went down about 10 minutes ago. I spot the 3G logo around 5:16pm today while playing game, and it repeats every 1 minute until the network is up at 5:25PM

I believe they're doing some testing there. brows.gif Can't wait for that. biggrin.gif

Looking by the speedtest results, MMORPG games on DiGi Broadband should be fine but games that requires really low latency such as shooter games will not be good on a wireless broadband.

All in good time. Something this good, no need to rush into things. I'd rather Digi enforce the existing areas with solid and stable broadcast connection. Otherwise, they'll end up like Streamyx, chewing off more than they could.

so existing digi mobile users cannot use the 3G.
you must apply new line for digi 3G internet.
my friend had to apply a new line specially for internet connection.

need some trick to do it. icon_idea.gif

ok. The first thing to do is go to Device Manager, Under the Modem Tab, choose the Modem you use to dial Digi.

Open it Properties, , choose the Advanced tab.

At the Extra Initialization commands then type in : +cgdcont=1,"ip","diginet"

Then "ok" to save it.

All done, connect your nokia phone with USB, then go to setting under network ,choose UMTS/WCDMA.

Selection mode "Manual".

After that, the phone start scan and you will get

3G Digi
3G Celcom
3G Maxis
3G Umobile.

At this moment, your left upper will show 3G without bar, so stop at this screen and now start the ”dial-up networking“。

Dial number is *99#, blank on user and password.
Click Dial, it will first fail but while dialing, you the time to click on the phone.
At first ,second time it will Access Error, but after few tried it said home network select.
Possible a while, your dial up should be successfully dial in.

I am using vista, I usually wait for the Network icon on the right corner appear the small glode on it then start to dial.

I try it 100% successfully all the time. tongue.gif icon_idea.gif

Between that, my Sim Card for Data is the White Colour 128K not the Yellow 64K.

where is your place oh. hmm.gif
At First me also hard to connect, but after some practice.
The trick is the moment your computer dial time while you must click and select the network.
You will get "Registering on the network" on the computer.
Wait a while, if failed then cancel and repeat the process. Usually 2-3 times will successfully logged in.

I think it must have the coverage also.
My Place is in Sea Park.

Let me find out later, I go test in other detected coverage and see.

Added on March 4, 2009, 5:27 amBorrow a Nokia N82 and tested.
It work too.
The Screen is a bit blur cause me no good camera sad.gif,
but you can notice that the second picture show "3.5g" symbol with no bar.
If you look closely.
But it still can browse internet.

need some trick to do it.  icon_idea.gif

RM158 just for 10GB is way too expensive IMHO. I guess DiGi needs to squeeze out subscribers because they need to cover back their 3G infrastructure costs which will soon be obsolete.

When TM launches HSBB and Wimax goes mainstream with over 10mbps, then maybe they'll lower the cost.

Wired will always be cheaper than wireless. When TM changes our lines from copper to fiber backbone, we'll get 5mbps-10mbps with the same price we are paying now.

The Wimax infrastructure is already built up.When they have enough coverage, they can launch 4G mobile service just like our existing mobile operators with 4G handsets.

DiGi will not be able to pull off a nationwide full broadband backbone with the economic situation. It they want to give 10mbps or more HSDPA to major cities they need to pump enough bandwidth to their transmission towers.

They don't have a nationwide fiber links like TM and it costs a bomb to lay them now. The only option for them is rent from others.

Put the pricing and packaging into perspective. If TM offers 4Mbps at the same price of their 1Mbps ADSL, they would be cannibalizing their existing packages and their total ARPU and revenue will drop tremendously. I would expect that TM will only play a wholesale role which eventually they would resell their Hyperspeed infrastructure to other ISPs and operators.

As for WiMax, I would agree to your statement except to the fact that the spectrum that we are using in Malaysia (eg. 2.3Ghz) is not the standard that everyone else is using all around the world for WiMax deployment. Scalability of devices and network equipments still have a long, long way to go. Furthermore WiMax players still do not have any other solid revenue streams like voice. For TM and the other celcos, the voice revenue is actually subsidizing for their broadband.

The pricing issue also may be Digi is not fully own the 3G spectrum license.
Actually it just lease or some agreement with Timedotcom.
Therefore , 3rd party cost also include kua.

TM net is big shark. They never make it any cheaper I guess.
If TM really want to benefit all, The might as well build hotspot in residential area.
Therefore, we all pay just RM20 for monthly usage。

The maximum HSDPA device can go now is 7.2 Mbps, no plan to go higher than that (14.4Mbps).
Note that giving you Best Effort 7.2 Mbps speed doesn't mean that they need to increase the transmission bandwidth.

I thought the 50GB is only during the pre-launch promotion period. According to the FAQ, it's 10GB if i'm not mistaken. Similar to the pricing, initial is cheaper, subsequently will be more expensive.

As you can see it'll be very expensive for DiGi to maintain a broadband network in a long run. They are just beginning to invest in 3G technology now from scratch.
As more and more subscribers subscribe to them, They'll have to rely more on Time's infrastructure.

7.2mbps is the max speed HSDPA can go as mentioned by p4n6 during low network load. When more people log on, it will get lowered to something as bad as what we are experienceing with Streamyx. Price will still be more expensive than landlines because DiGi is highly reliant on others.

As far as I know only TM(TM wholesale & Fiberail incld.), Jaring's SuperJaring, Time and TNB owns extensive fiber infrastructures in the country.

What infrastructure that they have to rely on Time? Time's fibre optics infrasturucture for their 3G services?
Time dotcom is just a empty shell company sitting on the license for few years, then re-sell the spectrum to DiGi for RM650mil whereby Maxis is getting it at 1st shot @ RM50mil.
DiGi is building on the network from scratch without the help from Time dotcom or the government at all.

Now you know how our government wants to have a piece of something that is making money.
And they're encouraging more foreign investment in this corrupted land. doh.gif doh.gif

DiGi is no more the company which is vibrant and aggressive like it used to be 2 years ago. Nowadays they recruit lots of locals and those people of special privileges because of the pressure. Their creativity is starting to lack already.

One good example is their corporate image is no longer pure yellow but a mixture of green and yellow now. If you received their latest postpaid bills you'll see the envelope cover. The use of Yellowman has toned down.

nop... their corporate color is still yellow and they're adopting a 'green concept' and its a company-wide campaign.
on the envelope color, well, this month's theme for the envelope is the insurance policy thingy, so basically to says that you're protected even in the jungle.
They have a different ads on the billing envelope every month, nothing is wrong with that.
Well, you should observe better.
What kind of pressure are they having? The pressure of going number 2 in the market?
Or the pressure of launching 3G in time? Recruitment of locals and special privileges because of pressure?
I don't see your point of pressure there.

Creativity has gone down, yea, this I would agree, but they had been restricted from 3G from the beginning when others, including Umobile had the license few years back.
With 3G coming, I believe they could offer more.....

Having Digi to offer 3G is definitely a great idea to drive the mobile broadband to the next level. As we can see Maxis, Celcom and U Mobile have been offering the service for a few years but to an extend I will say it's a pity and not utilizing the technology to its fullest. I hope Digi will be able to introduce some innovation to how to use the 3G services the mobile broadband way.

Or maybe the mobile operators don't have adequate experience in selling broadband and they have been miscalculating the customer experience in the broadband world.

If you ask me, I will say Digi moving in to the 3G now is a little too late judging that in less than 5 years, LTE will surface, can Digi gets their ROI back from 3G in 5 years? We can ask Maxis and Celcom the same question.

Agreed... the RM650mil is solely for the 3G license.. doh.gif

Not only divesting their shares, DiGi is also forced to hire many unwanted people as well as local unis to satisfy a certain quota. It'll eventually become another green Maxis.

Ok sorry to use the word unwanted too harsh, better word it as less capable.

You asked why private companies are forced to hire these people. Don't you know that people need to make a living?

What do you mean by foreign company?
DiGi is listed under the Malaysian stock exchange.
Do I need to explain further about the quotas in Malaysian companies?

DiGi is not a foreign company but Telenor is.

Why Telenor was not allowed to retain their company name in Malaysia unlike their Pakistan operations?
Is Telenor allowed to take full control of DiGi?

I remember reading that they were required to divest their 60% shares soon in DiGi to allow locals to share control.

sorry for the confusion then, should say as the majority stakeholder is not a local.
Oh, DiGi is a MNC and not a local one like Celcom and Maxis. So do you get the drift there?
Telenor still owns 49% of DiGi.

well, some of Telenor ops does not use their own name, so don't make it sounds like they're being forced to use another name.
In Thailand, they're known as DTAC, Serbia is ProMonte, Bangladesh is Grameenphone, Denmark is known as Sonofon and few others.
So does all the others ops in another countries being forced to adopt another name?

I think we should support digi in order to make digi the better out of it, i believe this promotion release is to see the feedback from the new customers about the digi internet. after all, if you understand the business marketing strategy, statistics and analysis must come first before launching its ultimate master plan. i can see they are making a change and opportunities for a new era of mobile internet broadband in malaysia as they quoted "rediscover what broadband should be" fits well in their vision. They are pushing their competitors' limit by offering 7.2mb/s, it's the only personal used broadband that offers such speed. If their service is good and satisfaction guaranteed, i doubt that malaysians would not pay more for such quality speedy service. As i was browsing through the feedback in this thread, it seems rather promisingly enough that many are satisfied with digi internet. I hope all of us would give their full pledge support towards digi. correct me if i'm wrong in my views above.

Just got the service today, applied from SS2 at 3pm and was activated at around 10pm.

So far so good, downloading from rapidshare.com at about 600kbps. Will update soon with speedtest.

7.2mbps will be phasing out soon.

By end of this year other mobile operators around Asia such as those in HK, Singapore and Australia will launch a (3x3) MIMO version of HSDPA increasing the current 7.2mbps to 3X which could harnest a top speed of 21.6mbps.

It will be called HSPA+ or E-HSDPA(Enhanced HSDPA) technology. This upgrade is equivalent to what EDGE is to GPRS as it is called 3.75G mobile. After this LTE will replace the 3rd generation as 4G.

Yes, the EDGE service has no Fair Usage Policy. Only DiGi's Broadband service via 3G has a Fair Usage Policy and the quota is at 50GB per month.

Signals can be picked up but you won't be able to access it

When I was at Jusco Bukit Tinggi Klang, I detected 3.5G signals as well (suspect its from Setia Alam since it is the nearest location that has coverage), I was able to connect to it but eventually it will disconnect by itself and revert back to DiGi EDGE

It is proven that DiGi is currently performing better than other providers but we'll wait and see if they can maintain it once they have a lot of subscribers.

I see that there is an additional usage charges and the maximum it can go is until RM138, in this case the speed won't be capped even if it touches the maximum RM138? hmm.gif

I don't really think so but we wouldn't know all these unless stated

And we wouldn't know what happens to the early subscribers as well, if after 1 year will it drop to 2mbps? No news

I personally think that DIGI 3G broadband is the BEST after the alliances with TIME DOT COM.. As we know that TDC is the 100% fiber optic trunk network. From Penisular Malaysia to East Malaysia, direct fiber link to international route..(no need to go through telekom).. Therefore, DIGI 3G will be fully benefit of the infra..

Picture worth thousand word.. Look at the infra diagram

http://www.time.com.my/corporate/special_fibre.asp

TIME DOT COM infra

An Information Super Highway

Introducing Malaysia's most comprehensive fibre optic communications infrastructure, TIME's Information Super Highway, a project with a capital investment of over RM3.8 billion.

With regional fibre optic cables running along the major highways and complemented by submarine fibre optic cables along the coastlines, augmented where necessary with wireless, digital microwave and satellite connectivity, we can provide you with an advanced and reliable communication capability to suit your every need locally and internationally.
Regional fibre optic cables

Our land-based fibre optics stretch over 3,600 km in Peninsular Malaysia with lines criss-crossing the country and connecting into the main network along the 850 km North-South Expressway.
Submarine fibre optic cables

The submarine fibre optic cables totaling 1,624 km are laid along the coastline of Peninsular from Pulau Langkawi, Kedah to Kota Bharu, Kelantan connecting to 25 coastal sites.
Digital microwave and satellite

The digital microwave and satellite links cover remote places or areas not yet serviceable by our fibre optic cables.
International investment

We are currently providing access to over 240 countries and territories around the world. With investments in most Asian and Trans-Pacific cable systems as well as direct access to satellite facilities, we are able to offer international telecommunications services to carriers, resellers, multinational corporations and consumers in Malaysia and around the world.
Our international partners include:

* Optus and Telstra in Australia
* Hong Kong Telecom International in Hong Kong
* MCI in USA
* Indosat in Indonesia
* Kokusai Denshin Denwa (KDD) in Japan
* Jabatan Telekom Brunei in Brunei
* Philippines Long Distance Telephony (PLDT) in Philippines
* Singapore Telecom in Singapore
* Telephone Organisation of Thailand (TOT) in Thailand

Our international facilities include:

* Two world class international gateway switches (ATT5ESS)
* Direct fibre links to Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, USA and Indonesia
* Undersea cables:
Asia Pacific Cable Network (APCN)
South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 3 (SEA-ME-WE 3)
North Pacific Cable (NPC)
Trans Pacific Cable 4 (TPC 4)
Fibre Optic Link Around the Globe (FLAG)
Singapore-Malaysia Cable (SMC)
Malaysia-Thailand-East (MTE)
Thailand-Malaysia-West (TMW)
* Satellite Facility:
AsiaSat
* A world class international network management centre, opens all year round

Is inter related la ... 3G or any internet service provider providing the first phase date transfer.. Eg.. TM Streamyx.. the 1st phase is ADSL modem through copper tel line.. Here.. 1st phase is 3G wireless technology.. 2nd phase, 3G data will reach DIGI nearest tower station.. Then, the data is transfer via LAND line(in here will be TIME DOT COM fiber optic backbond that cover the entire peninsular ), 3rd.. will route through

TIME DOT COM direct service

Two world class international gateway switches (ATT5ESS)
* Direct fibre links to Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, USA and Indonesia
* Undersea cables:
Asia Pacific Cable Network (APCN)
South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 3 (SEA-ME-WE 3)
North Pacific Cable (NPC)
Trans Pacific Cable 4 (TPC 4)
Fibre Optic Link Around the Globe (FLAG)
Singapore-Malaysia Cable (SMC)
Malaysia-Thailand-East (MTE)
Thailand-Malaysia-West (TMW)
* Satellite Facility:
AsiaSat
* A world class international network management centre, opens all year round

P/S:hmn.. u really think that you can use DIGI 3G signal & talk directly to internet base in USA via 3G signal? haha.. i just kiding only ma.. don't get angry... rclxms.gif

I am saying DIGI would benefit from TDC infrastructure...Huawei is the 3G equipment vendor...This include setting up 3G infra & network... Bare in mind, 3G is the 1st phase..After that, data is transmit on LAND line...Pls read my post# 369 again so that u have a better picture where is the position of 3G services...

currently I'm using Celcom (RM 68) package but I'm thinking of changing to another operator. Just came back from DIGI & take some brochure

It stated :

RM 66/ month for unlimited data

My questions is :

What is the limit of the data per month. Celcom also said unlimited but after i used my 5GB/month, they capped my my download speed to 128kbps...

Any idea friends...??

im using DG EDGE now, izzit true no limit ?_?
walau if DG 3G below RM60 ,
what will happen to DG EDGE ?price down ?
lol
*
As far as I know for DiGi's EDGE service, there's no bandwidth cap or whatsoever. Well, in my opinion they will reduce the price by a little but they wouldn't reduce it by much and they will try to promote their 3G service.

QUOTE(jat @ Mar 18 2009, 04:30 PM)
currently I'm using Celcom (RM 68) package but I'm thinking of changing to another operator. Just came back from DIGI & take some brochure

It stated :

RM 66/ month for unlimited data

My questions  is :

What is the limit of the data per month. Celcom also said unlimited but after i used my 5GB/month, they capped my my download speed to 128kbps...

Any idea friends...??
*
For DiGi EDGE, its on going

For the latest broadband, throttle down to 128kbps after quota is breached

* Undersea cables:
Asia Pacific Cable Network (APCN)
South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 3 (SEA-ME-WE 3)
North Pacific Cable (NPC)
Trans Pacific Cable 4 (TPC 4)
Fibre Optic Link Around the Globe (FLAG)
Singapore-Malaysia Cable (SMC)
Malaysia-Thailand-East (MTE)
Thailand-Malaysia-West (TMW)
* Satellite Facility:
AsiaSat
* A world class international network management centre, opens all year round

P/S:hmn.. u really think that you can use DIGI 3G signal & talk directly to internet base in USA via 3G signal? haha.. i just kiding only ma.. don't get angry... rclxms.gif

Just curious, how do you know that DiGi 3G runs over TdC fiber optic backbone?

Added info, the 50% off from the modem is only applicable at 1U
Not at other DSS/DC

Adavnce Payment is RM300 and if you use autobilling, it will be RM100
There will be laptop bundled packages as well, you have to go 1U and get it
Other places all modems only package

Shah Alam at Setia Alam, thats all I can give you because the website still not up yet (Expect around late evening to be updated)

If you use cell phone EDGE only, it will run on EDGE lo

One thing they made a blunder, they should write off the Klang Valley wordings in the advert. Crap, Klang is not even covered yet also >_>

not unlimited lo... usage quota 3GB.. so less cry.gif cry.gif
speed is 700kbps for download and 200kbps for upload....
after exceeding 3GB quota.. will reduce to 128kbps..
charging rm0.15 for 10MB.. max cap RM138...

What got me confused as well is, will it drop to EDGE speeds once quota is breached OR when user hit max cap at RM138

High chances dit will drop to EDGE speed after max cap of RM138 (can't really confirm on this but I hpe this option would be better)

same as RM 108(EXPLORE) for the speed. jz the usage quota increase to 10GB
For RM188(EXTREME) speed is download-2Mbps, upload 1Mbps.
decrease to 128kbps after exceeding the quota without any additional charges loo... blush.gif

haha.. is drop to 128kbps after exceeding the quota 3G and 10G...
and charging it for the rm58 and rm108 plan only...
but when reaching rm138, u will not be charged.. something like data only sim service..
not charging after max cap of RM149

looks like time to add users list into the front page. agree? how many lyn using Digi 3g broadband?

3GB is good for me, important is must load faster than my edge. 700kbps can dl 1MB in 11 secs. good ?
*
agree.. for light users like me,.. 3GB is sufficient...
i seldom download movies and tv shows from torrent though.

I just came back from 1U.
The sales lady there doesn't allow me to subscript until 3:30pm, and she also said from 19 to 22 March we can only subscript in 1U, can't even go to other digi center to subscript.

Only at 1U? Nah....BS

Selected DSS and some DSS at DCs also are entitled, it is just that they can only sell modems, no laptops

Just got back from One Utama. Digi just launched their new broadband rates. 3 packages. Fastest package - Maximum average speed only 2Mbps with 20GB cap and cost RM188/mth (modem not included)

Luckily i sign up for the early bird package....cheaper, higher speed, free modem and 50GB.

according to the person i spoke to there, right now they arent targetting users who want to use it for mobility, just home users. he seems to imply that currently we wont be able to use it anywhere we like within the coverage area. they will ask for your location beforehand.

the digi usb modem price is so-so only even during the promotion period (rm200/rm300 + contract). these days ppl want the thumbdrive-type usb modem, but theirs still the cable type. myself using thumbdrive usb modem i bought for rm350 six months ago.

well, Digi system capacity are 14.4mbps, so 7.2mbps will not be an issue for them.

don't cancel your P1 first, compare with any of your friends Digi broadband at your home just to make sure digi is equal or better.

Glad digi's being honest and realistic to highlight AVERAGE speed. Not shouting about 7.2mbps or something like that.

Maybe Streamyx should follow suit and highlight their average speed instead of 1mbps blah blah blah.

a bit disappoint on digi package.

The compare chart is not 100% houour.

For celcom even quote is 5GB but it fix with RM68 per month.

no as digi, got hidden extra charge capped at RM 138.

If like this, Celcom is still worth it ,because I can use extra 2GB with RM68.

But digi will start charge you after 3GB , the 2GB extra will charge you max at RM138.

totally pricey.

Bro, you blur blur edi loh about the extra charges if you exceed the quota.....

RM58=3GB

additional 10MB=RM0.15

so i have calculated if you continue downloading up to 8GB, you will be charged RM132.....
let's say during that month you have downloaded 18GB worth of data, actual charges will be
First 3GB=RM58
Next 15GB=RM235
Total RM293 but you will pay at the cap price of RM138 only.

Look like Digi forgot to compare another player Umobile.

If someone happen to be under coverage area , it also a nice choice.

No, maximum you can go is 7.2Mbps. 14.4Mbps is the basestation maximum throughput not your device maximum throughput.
HSPA device can only reach max of 7.2Mbps.

The package comparison table is very misleading. It shows that the DiGi staff involve in the survey not doing his/her job properly.

1) Streamyx Combo 384 does not cost RM119.

2) Maxis 3G Internet RM99 Add On does not have 12months contract

3) Celcom Access only RM68 also has no contract

4) DiGi's 12 months modem installment signup is also considered a contract. If you don't want to complete the remaining 12months, you need to pay the remaining fees or just the modem?

Bro, you blur blur edi loh about the extra charges if you exceed the quota.....

RM58=3GB

additional 10MB=RM0.15

so i have calculated if you continue downloading up to 8GB, you will be charged RM132.....
let's say during that month you have downloaded 18GB worth of data, actual charges will be
First 3GB=RM58
Next 15GB=RM235
Total RM293 but you will pay at the cap price of RM138 only.
After 3GB, your speed is throttled and also need to pay for extra MB.
I also doubt is , the speed slow down is effective after CAPPED or QUOTE Usage ?

Anyway, the internet usage is not only download.
We do send request where is upload.

usually, If 3GB of normal surfing.
May use about 30-35% to upload and 65-70% download.

Glad digi's being honest and realistic to highlight AVERAGE speed. Not shouting about 7.2mbps or something like that.

Maybe Streamyx should follow suit and highlight their average speed instead of 1mbps blah blah blah.
*
so you want TM streamyx show average speed like this ah??

512Kbps (average speed 20kb/s or even less)
1Mbps (average 35kb/s or even less)

streamyx suck...extremely oversold their package, every users getting very slow speed...

if streamyx highlight the average speed, sure ppl run away and they must sa yo na na la...

It is confirmed at DiGi website, after max cap only throttle to EDGE speed, not after quota given. So the RM58 package can download 8GB++ of data, now its worth it smile.gif

download speed of 20kb/s is equal to a broadband speed of 160Kbps

when 512kbps=you should have 64kbps when downloading.

my streamyx 1mbps have onli 80kb/s download speed=actual of what i should have is 125kb/s max

Digi 700kbps should have download speed of 87.5kb/s max.....any user can verify for me your actual download speed of digi broadband?

Yup that seems to be the case.
RM58 discover package free quota is 3GB, with extra charges can use up to max ~8GB before being throttled.
RM108 explore package free quota is 10GB, with extra charges can use up to max 16GB before being throttled.
RM188 extreme package quota of 20GB is also it's max cap.

Overall, I like digi's strategy of maintaining enough bandwidth for everyone. I will be very please as long as I can get a stable and average speed broadband. Now if they'll only increase their 3G coverage fast enough...

What concluding? I'm just pleased with their business strategy over others, and I'll be even happier if they manage to remain stable.

IMO It looks like their business strategy is to provide stable connection to all user. That's why there's all these throttling, and the slow rollout. IMO again Digi has to stay smart and please their customers, due to the loopsided playing field.

Of course I might be wrong, but then there's no binding contract.

There's another promotion from digi

"For as little as RM2 a day, you get consistent speed with our advanced 14.4Mbps HSPA network and generous usage volume. So you’ll keep on smiling. Just some of the things that make our broadband a little nicer."

Is it means that each of 3 packages has a highest download speed which can up to 14.4mbps? (In case the modem is supported)
