Keep force it to take this network few time until it said home network selected.

then if you see 3G on the upper left corner even without bar, never mind.

Then try use pc suite dial *99#. It will let you go in Digi 3G network .

You can surf download even with no bar is shown, I am doing it now actually.  laugh.gif

need some trick to do it.  icon_idea.gif

ok. The first thing to do is go to Device Manager, Under the Modem Tab, choose the Modem you use to dial Digi.

Open it Properties, , choose the Advanced tab.

At the Extra Initialization commands then type in :  +cgdcont=1,"ip","diginet"

Then "ok" to save it.

All done, connect your nokia phone with USB, then go to setting under network ,choose UMTS/WCDMA.

Selection mode "Manual".

After that, the phone start scan and you will get

3G Digi
3G Celcom
3G Maxis
3G Umobile.

At this moment, your left upper will show 3G without bar, so stop at this screen and now start the ”dial-up networking“。

Dial number is *99#, blank on user and password.
Click Dial, it will first fail but while dialing, you the time to click on the phone.
At first ,second time it will Access Error, but after few tried it said home network select.
Possible a while, your dial up should be successfully dial in.

I am using vista, I usually wait for the Network icon on the right corner appear the small glode on it then start to dial.

I try it 100% successfully all the time. tongue.gif icon_idea.gif

Between that, my Sim Card for Data is the White Colour 128K not the Yellow 64K.
i'm sorry i feel very stupid.. it cannot work...
i am using the white color sim card like yours..
i changed the extra initialization command.. can work when i'm in 2G, but when i manual select to 3G.. the phone says "no access"... i cannot get the phone to show 3G word at all.. no sign of home network select... sigh.. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

i try to click dial on my pc... then select the DiGi 3G on my phone also cannot.. i think today i've tried more than 100 times! lol tongue.gif

are you using sony ericsson phone to connect? or does vista makes a difference, coz i'm on WinXP SP3.. i try to connect using nokia pc-suite and also from the Network Connection panel also fail...

most wireless broadband provider offer usb modem. Streamyx modems and router uses RJ45 port. So there's a interface incompatibility. Your option to share is to get a wireless router that has 3g modem built in which is expensive and hard to find. So far i only heard of models from huawei, ericsson, and tmobile. Another option is to get a 3g router only which has a Usb port for you to plug in your usb modem

Thank you so much for the info. I Will bear that in mind and looking forward to get a new 3G router if I have decided to get DIGI 3G Broadband. Cheers
*
bear in mind most of the 3g router spec support up to 3.6mpbs only. for those who are particular about getting more than 3.6mbps a.k.a the 7.2mbps package do take note.

for me i'm a bit more technical. i differentiate

3G router - router only, cannot insert SIM card, must use with a separate 3G modem, such as plugging in the USB modem, normally cost <RM400
models include Aztech HW831 http://www.aztech.com/my/3g_hw831.html, or CWR- 635M http://www.cnet.com.tw/product/cwr-635m.html

check the specs for these because for this 2 model, i see from the website only support 3.6mpbs, so i think the transfer rate from the usb model to the 3g router is around this speed. not sure how much it is in real life. but then it's ok to use if you don't subscribe to the more expensive 7.2mbps package

3G modem router - has router and modem built in, more than RM500
models include T-MOBILE WEB 'N' WALK BOX II, Huawei E960
@pennyzai - i think these are the types of 3g modem+router the digi shops are selling, as most of these can support 7.2mbps

i mean.. these are some of the result of my internet research at the moment and haven't gone out to the "streets" to find out what is available on the shop. wanting to share my wireless broadband but feel the equipment is very expensive for my budget.

hehe.. this is my 50th post.. got 2 star now.. tongue.gif

it is expensive, but i guess there is no other way to share. get the cheapest 3g router only then use the usb modem given.. that will be sufficient for normal user. im still waiting for digi bb to arrive at my place sad.gif
*
yes you are right. but theres a cheaper but more troublesome way.
A1. setup usb modem on a pc/laptop with Wi-fi card
A2. get some software that will turn your pc as a wireless router.. something like joikuspot (actually for the mobile, but don't know if there's any software version for Windows)

B1. A1. setup usb modem on a pc/laptop with Network card and connect it to a router (with or without wifi)
B2. get some software that will turn your pc as a Internet gateway so your PC actually acts like the ADSL modem when you compare it to the Streamyx-type of topology

i know theres way to make both ways possible, but never try it myself because you need to get the correct software and know how to setup networking and troubleshoot it. the bad thing is that if you off that PC, your broadband connection goes down with it, and it consumes more power. of course, when you compare the price of a pc/laptop and a 3g router, the 3g router looks cheap in comparison.

just checked the thread for networking stuff in garage sales, some of them selling 3g router for RM290 and RM330.. top it up with a 3G USB which cost RM300 (unsubsidized) expect to pay about RM600 - RM650. if we take the modem package from DiGi (Discover), it'll just cost us RM180, instead of paying RM300 from buying from the shops. but while typing this post and checking digi's website, they are running a promo for free modem for Explore and Extreme package!

hehe.. i got say easy meh? i meant its very difficult.. even for me! sorry smile.gif
it's not worth going through the trouble.. although i can get a satisfaction of being able to achieve this setup.. but it won't last for long.. anything wrong with pc or config then my wife will kill me.. that time paying RM800 for a 3g modem+router is well worth it!! tongue.gif

QUOTE(davidmak @ Jul 28 2009, 09:44 AM)

On a unrelated note but equally interesting discussion, other countries in the world (the Oceania continent down below) practice territorial service division. In other words, they draw lines on their territory where we have monopoly over that area under their care. Its sectored and they are free to develop their service within. This allows better focus on rendering their service to customers and offers some micro protection since competitors are not allowed within an assigned area. One area can be allocated to one to 2 players depending on their service ability.

I am not sure if this is some kind of a government bill or act in those countries but it is widely practiced. Similar implementation? Case in point is the protection of local banks from foreign competitor. For example, foreign banks cannot deploy ATM machines within a specified kilometer radius of ATM machines deployed by local banks. You will see lots of Maybank ATM but no signs of foreign ATM. However, if we go suburb or non-Klang Valley areas including other states, we'll see them. Also it applies to branches except for those with 'Amanah' word in front of it. biggrin.gif

will keep this short to prevent kena action for being off-topic smile.gif but what you've just proposed is like indicating to revert back to the implementation of a capitalistic market, which we were liberated from (the TM era). Most of the people are screaming bloody murder when they only had Streamyx, and knowing this is Malaysia where decisions can be influenced, imagine what would happen if you happen to be assigned to a monopoly with Streamyx in your area? smile.gif also, taking the case of mobile broadband, would a DiGi subscriber who lives in PJ needs another subscription to P1 (who controls that area) if he moves to Kepong? the concept you raise is very interesting but as this world is not perfect, the operating conditions varies, coupled the need for incentives+regulation+enforcement, makes it hard for end-users to benefit in the long term. again, the protectionism model is best suited for certain industry or certain interest (like the national car and banks industry), while other industry are best left unregulated (telco, tv, utilties)

Ooh ya! I forgot to check that as well. Thanks for notifying. So meaning to say it is capped earlier? After 10GB it will be capped but without extra usage. The usual RM108 can still go another 5-6GB at additional charge on top of RM108 until it hits RM138 and then speed is capped.
With regards to the router, I hope Digi can come out with this solution (from Huawei of course). That is a HSDPA modem with WIFI capabilities complete battery support (5 hours at least). Then we have a real 'networker' wherever we go. They have it in the US and its called a MIFI or something...
*
alternatively.. u can plug ur hsdpa modem, and convert ur laptop's wifi into an accesspoint..
few ways you can do this,

1. use a hardware+subscription method, and earn money at the same time.. learn more from www.fon.com not very popular in malaysia, but the concept of subscription makes it easy to access other shared wifi from fon's user

2. software only method - www.whisher.com (become a hotspot provider smile.gif or www.wefi.com

3. when you get 3G on ur phone.. you can do the same with joikuspot www.joiku.com (for symbian)

zzz I"M using nokia and it doesnt show 2g or 3g network it only show digi maxis celcom lol
*
for nokia...
first.. make sure u select the network as 3G/UMTS/WCDMA only... don't select dual mode or GSM/2G
then only do "manual" search.. if you see DiGi, means there is coverage...

darksider.. it's the same one.. thats how umobile, maxis and celcom does it

I don't think facebook is the only one having this problem.
Generally, for my case, it's happening to me to whatever uploads that has files size bigger than 3-5MB.
Be it facebook, gmail, hotmail, blogspot, my upload will just suddenly stop prematurely.

vmad.gif
*
i notice for me.. it's boils down to
a) browser - upload works for IE, not for firefox or mozilla, but depends on applications, see #2
b) web sites - gmail, firefox, microsoft web outlook cannot upload attachment, but using the same browser, yahoo mail can upload (guess it depends on the coding and how they implement uploads)

i don't think it's isp problem coz i can't upload facebook from my company network or streamyx also.. and facebook is notorious (at least for me) for upload fail when using the java uploader.. have to try many times.. happens for my laptop, and my wife laptop no matter which isp we're on
