Currently I'm using Astro Go on Minix Neo U1. If I'm not mistaken, Astro Go cannot be used on rooted Android. Just go for Minix as @edex said. U won't go wrong with Minix brand. XD

Just download the apps from playstore or get the apk online and install into ur tv box

I think PQ is Picture Quality.

I don't have 4K TV. Quality is good on normal TV using HDMI connection. Just the problem with Astro Go is the subtitle. Can't find where to enable/disable sub. For the sub, if it's there, it's there. If not then no sub.

Yes I was trying to ask the picture/video quality when it is shown on TV out from TV Box compare to astro decoder, because when I watch astro go on the phone/tablet, the video quality is not very good.

Did u notice the "number" on the bottom right of your screen when you start the stream? I always use 3 and satisfied with the video quality. Please try it. And btw decoder should give better video when both is using same type of connection.

The PQ not as good as the astro decoder. Fast moving scene will become pixelated.

What about live football? Clear boh?

astrogo streams are all SD - 360 or 480p only.

poor if u r used to HD.

watchable if u hv no HD alternative.

of the three apps, i wud say in terms of video quality:

1. iflix
2&3. astrogo $ hypptv everywhere.

all 3 are stable, reliable.

Downloaded 8.0.4.2 and installed via es file explorer, but when i open the app i got the message ‘unfortunately astro on the go has stopped’ and crashed.

Any ideas why?

if not mistaken, this sony is androidtv android5.0.

it should work like my sharp android5.1.

first, uninstall any previous astrogo version as other version will not get installed unless u remove existing.

try below which i shared with other sharp users.

becos afaik, all current devices using google androidtv will work.

Hmm mine shows a login, registration and skip button.
Click login diverts me to Opera browser to key in login and password. After keying and click login. It just stucks in the browser page.

Am using sony 50w800c.

did u install the 2 other apps - indic keyboard and orientation from playstore?
former is required; if not, it will get stuck.
latter is required to change from portrait to landscape.

i am a bit surprised if u cannot get astrogo just like another sony 800c user.
androidtv should work, like sharp's ue630x range, and boxes like nvidia shield and mibox that use androidtv.
the explanation may be android 5.1 or higher is required.
anyway, this astrogo app is picky - won't run on just any tv or box.

Want to mention that I just realized there is setting in the video quality. Selected medium high and the high resolution then the picture quality becomes more acceptable.

Also on my rooted phone, I installed magisk and enable magisk hide, Astro go becomes working properly. Unable to test it on my TV box as on my box I dont have TWRP so it is difficult to install Magisk and so on.

what u get at best is 480p - that's what is broadcasted. (only720p and above is classified at HD.)

and on a small device, 480p is very acceptable; even 360p is.

astrogo has no problems working on phones and tablets, any version, afaik.

the challenge is boxes and smart tv's.

astrogo works on ipads android tablets since 5 years ago.

even now, just install from playstore, will work.

it used to work on boxes in the beginning, then no more.

i way i understand it, apps like astrogo and hyppewhere are purposedly designed for portable devices only.

it is an issue about the app compatibility with the device's firmware.

(and nothing to do with root-unroot like many still think.)

a minority of boxes are compatible; majority are not.

and afaik, devices incl smart Tv's and boxes running on androidtv will work.

the explanation is probably astrogo/hypp wants to get approval to get their apps into this platform typically used by premium devices..

"androidtv" is a google controlled platform, much more restricted than the generic "android os", playstore is different.

How do you explain that previously when I run it on my SuperSU rooted phone, it did not work but subsequently I removed SuperSU and changed it to Magisk and hide Astro Go from seeing the root, then it just runs fine ? I tested on the older version and the latest version of Astro Go from play store, they both works.

Okay I got my box working with Astro Go finally. Took me a long time because of rom version and twrp availability issue.

Basically my box is tested on both Android 6.0.1 and Android 7.1.2. The android 6 one did not work despite it attempting to run. I think it is a drm library issue.

The Android 7 version runs. Need to run Magisk to hide root away from Astro Go. And need TWRP to install Magisk. TWRP which proven to work for Android 6 might not work after upgrading to android 7.

personally, i dun use astrogo much even though i have it on 5.1 androidtv.

the quality is too low... i can get better alternatives.

I only have a 40 inch full HD tv and the quality is good enough for me. I set it to medium high resolution, that's one notch below the highest.

But even low res (position 2) one is visually acceptable. Wonder if it respect the setting or auto negotiate.

I have a android box, but having issue to view aotg.

I able to install the apk to the box and able to login, the problem is when i play any channel, it keeps buffering and never play the video.

Using Android 7.1.1 rooted

Rooted is the reason of this keep buffering problem. Some cases of obvious rooting, the AOTG make direct complaint of root being detected.

You need to either full unroot, or boot using TWRP, install magisk and hide root from AOTG.

Magisk is not supported on all firmwares, some firmwares are using less common boot image format and so magisk will fail to install.

TWRP is specific to your device. And also depend on android version and Ram/memory size. So without mentioning your device model and details, you are on your own to locate a suitable TWRP.

Put twrp onto a SDCard and name it as "recovery.img" and try booting from it by pressing and holding the reset button using a non-metal stick ( such as toothpick ), then insert the power.

There is certain amount of risk you have to understand. If it does not boot properly due to wrong version of TWRP, you might boot into the stock recovery in the flash ROM instead of TWRP recovery on the SDCard, and the stock recovery will wipe your data partition. The result is equivalent to factory reset.

This is the first step. After that there is installation of Magisk ( step 2) and configure Magisk manager ( step 3 ).

So you would have to understand what you are doing. And are equipped to handle the worst case.

my friend want to let go a MINIX NEO X8. I m thinking to get it for ASTRO ON THE GO.
But he is not sure if the device have been rooted.

He only show me:

Stock Minix firmware are never rooted. If you like the box and it serves your other needs. Just flash the latest stock firmware and sure it's unrooted.

I just wanna to isntall AOTG, TONTON or NJOI for my bedroom.

Flash stock and hope it works.. The Neo X8 is a four year old device. Can't say if those apps will work till you try em.. Flash stock.

world cup 2018 starts june 14.

with sports pack, the 64 matches are on special channels 823 and 824 - labeled russia 2018 1 and 2 under sports category in astrogo.

W/o sports pack or non astro users, astrogo can still watch 22 out of 64 matches for free on astro arena.

astrogo is probably the best one at this time - reliable and in 720p HD (but maybe low bit rate).

other alternatives - u can try livenet tv, red box, freeflix.

google to find the apk's.

those apps have some of the channels that should be broadcasting world cup 2018; quality/reliability may vary.

in minix U9H. astro go watching streaming football. at intermittent say like every 10-20 mins....it kinda hangs (the loading sign displays) and i have to manually replay the channel again.
it doesnt happen with HP or tablet. Only on minix.
Does anyone has similar issues? if yes...anyway to mitigate this issue?

there is another problem currently...

WC2018 channels 823, 824... they should be in HD but drop to SD within 30 secs.

this does not happen to other HD channels incl arena and assp1-4.

and it only happens with boxes or androidtv tv, not phones and tablets.

maybe astro now has a way to throttle devices that they don't like...

100Mbps is too slow? maybe i should consider 1Gbps ya. :-p

anyway...i think their app itself is very buggy.

I think this.. Especially if it only happens with boxes.. That rules out server issues. Asterruk being proactive.

Speed is more than sufficient.. I'm assuming you are wired and box has access to full internet speeds..? If so, most likely the app itself is the culprit.

I had been testing for a week now with 3 devices.

It is disappointing, esp for those who paid for the passes.

I do not know the diff in bitrate required between mobile devices vs boxes.

Maybe they sold too many passes, the boxes cant get sufficient bitrate.

Right now, 824 seems ok in hd while 823 still sucks in sd.

Anyway, i got something better now, no need for this asgo.


update:

channel 823 portugal-morocco match... in 540/576, an improvement from 240/360 last few days.

maybe people stopped buying their passes, less users...

IKR.. By right, they shouldn't discriminate between devices. But business is business I guess. So I can't blame them for protecting their turf.

Its either they r so clever to be able to discriminate or its simply overload due to oversold passes.

Some people are cheesed off after buying the passes.

Firstly.. Don't think I even know any or heard of a forummer using an Android powered projector.. Much less AOTG..an app that's notoriously picky on which devices it runs and how it runs on them.

Hey you should check out the Mi Laser Projector 150" from Xiaomi. I looked into it for a bit when released and it seemed promising.
HiMedia Q10 Pro, Minix boxes like the Neo U1 and Neo U9-H, These 3 have been confirmed by multiple forummers, including myself (I use the Minix Neo U1) to run AOTG.. On the cheaper side, the Mecool M8S Pro L, a sub RM300 box just might be able to run it too. I just got one for a friend and will be setting it up next week. So will know for sure if it does or not.

i am using current 8.2.1 on sharp androidtv.

if u hv already installed it, try this:

.. install INDIC keyboard from playstore; go to settings, set this keyboard to default.

the crash is due to incompatible original keyboard.

.. if u haven't, sideload an orientation app to make it landscape rather than portrait.
