many apps need a mouse to navigate; the remote control is not enough.
"mouse" can be wired mouse, wireless mouse, airmouse with tiny keyboard or full blown keyboard.
given the low price of the box, makes more sense to use a cheap wireless mouse.

2 things i suggest u check before u buy:

.. the photo show tanix tx3 mini logo but page also says "no brand".
tanix supplies their boxes to OEM's who do not use tx3 logo - these boxes are said to be inferior to original tanix.

.. it says android7... from a recent case, it arrived as android8.
while android8 is newer, it does not have the simple root open/close option in settings.
root closing is necessary to run some apps like astrogo and unifi@playtv.
so, do check.

now still reading every pages.

i might need to buy this tx3 to use for unifiTV.
as my package 100mbps no more free unifiSTB.

unifi@playtv works on tx3mini - as long as it is unrooted.

so, make sure u get the right box.

don't forget shorter warranty period.. some none at all.. some just 1 week..

if u want virgin box, untouched, nice shining in plastic go for china seller..

He said all new tx3 mini box come with Android 8, Bluetooth & without close/hide root capabitity.

The only solution is to downgrade.

Any wireless or airmouse should work.

New tx3mini... will need someone to DIY or get seller to confirm successfully downgrade to old android7 or close/hide root with supersu or magisk. Without that, the box is rooted, cannot run astrogo or unifi playtv.

any link for the old tx3mini? i plan to buy with the purpose for AOTG only.
My TV built in with Netflix where i don't need to run using box.

i did take a look at some sellers, shopee, lazada...

they all list it as android7 (which is preferred), not updated probably.

but as reported, when they ship, it comes as android8 - new shipments, i guess.

so, the only way to be sure is u chat with the seller, reconfirm he checked himself it is old stock android7.

I contacted the recommended Tx3 mini seller in Shopee regarding the recent Android 8 upgrade without Root Setting. I felt compelled to join Lowyat and post the information I obtained from the seller.

The seller was very frank and truthful about the whole issue of Tx3 mini being upgraded from Android 7 to 8.
The seller even told me what are their plans in the coming future, even though they don't have to tell me anything. No wonder the customers' rating are so high for this seller. I am looking forward to my first purchase from the seller.

seller is doing what he can to cater to customer needs.

if tx3 mini finally comes with Android8, superuser option, BT, ac wifi, that will be wonderful.

New TX3 Mini has the sticker Mini-A as what I found out.. same spec with old tx3 mini except that it is now running on android 8.1, and no root off/on option.. i performed full unroot and managed to get the new aotg 2.192.5 running.. new tx3 mini should have no problem running live tv HD channels since it is only google widevine L3.. but damn, alice ux is not very good launcher.. very slow and sluggish.. even tx6 which should be faster become slower of this alice ux.. i ditched all my tanix (tx3 max, tx6 and tx5 max) for good, and now happily using mibox s, mibox 3s and also beelink gt mini-a.. feel used to androidtv interface already..

haven't seen alice ui on tx3mini but on tx5max, alice is fine, very fast.

Because tx5 max is using s905x2, a faster processor.. below is the list of cpu ranking, based on benchmark.. i self compiled.. based from cnx, androidpctv, chigtechreview website..

that's y u dont notice the sluggishness.. actually tx5 max has very high return rate of failure.. so ure lucky since u got a working fine one.. for me, 4/13.. 30.77%, where other models only single digit, or almost 0% of return rate.. that is the reason why u can find less local sellers selling this model in shopee/lazada.. another model that i heard having lot of issue is x96 max.. therefore, if anyone really want to use this new cpu s905x2, go for beelink gt1 mini instead..

i suspected tx5 max is pure OEM, as you can never find this model on their website, and also on their facebook page..

s905w is a low end cpu/gpu combination.. from all the tests done, it can play 4k, but only up to 30fps..

therefore, now moving forward, if anyone of us want to look for box, go for:

low end/low cost:
s905 processors

medium:
s905x2 (cheaper than s912, performance better)

high end:
s922x

avoid buying other than amlogic for low/medium end boxes, as amlogic is more stable imho..

nice compilation there... yup, the diff in performance of diff chipsets.

something else i read elsewhere... AML S905x2 onwards, there is no device that supports lossless audio, unlike S912 and S905W.

i've been hunting for such a device, no luck.. only old chipsets can do... for now.
