WOW, some good information on this thread.

I am not the thread starter, but I am probably the first serious thread contributor. It is nice to come back 3 months later and see a thriving discussions on this topic. Although it seems to have veered from talking about Tx3 to discussions getting Astro on the Go app up and running, LOL.

It is a coincidence that I too bought from the Tx3 seller in Shopee who everyone has been praising.
I installed Astro and Unifi, and surprise surprise, they work with a simple setting change.

I am not too sure why the modded apk file is not shared in a post. Maybe forum moderators deleted them.

I have edited my comment on the first page to reflect on the proceeding Unifi and Astro app discussions in the next 8 pages. As I notice lots of forumers keep asking in other threads on what box to get for Astro on the go.

I have consulted a few local sellers, and they confirmed that the Tx6 can run Astro on the go, after FULL unrooting.

The unrooting is a one-way ticket, no turning back. Unlike the Tx3 which has the option to open or close root acccess.

The process of unrooting is done manually it seems as sellers commented about "Manual Unroot" in their replies.

Just to add the the question of "which box can run Astro on the go".
It is probably fair to say, all android boxes can run Astro Go provided the root access is closed, or can be closed back.

As to how to close the root access, there are a variety of methods and a variety of difficulty and also a variety of outcome, LOL.

the curious thing about Tanix is for RM88, u can get a box that runs astrogo and unifi playtv.
although i wud prefer to recommend the 2+16gb model for rm118.

the moded apk was posted previously in post #123 but is 8.2.4.
can share 8.2.6 moded, if u have it.

my experience, it is simple to permanently close root for TX5max with superSU app.
however, i read in another forum an experience user failed to do the same on tx6.
he also said for tx6, magisk can no longer hide the root properly.
hence my asking if anyone here successfully hid root or unroot tx6.

i am not sure if ALL boxes can run the 2 apps if root closed or hidden.
i have seen boxes that are unrooted but can't do; others have reported same in other threads.
most likely it depends on the chipset soc and box firmware as well.
and some boxes can install official app direct from playstore, no need to sideload with moded apk versions.

Ahhh, this one got my attention. So, care to share the workaround on how to run UnifiPlayTV on LAN?

Just to clarify a few things first.
Are you using Tx3 Mini?
Reason is because I have only played around with Tx3 Mini 1 GB and 2GB models. I have never touched any other boxes before.
And I got my Tx3 Mini from THIS SELLER [click here], and I cannot say that all Tx3 mini have the same software.
So if you wish to know the solution, best just to get one box and ask the seller for help.
I literally spent tens of hours tinkering with Error 15401 and Error 111, when I could have just ask the seller for help. I even sent a few emails to TM customer service, but no they offer no help - as initially I thought it has to do with user and device login history in their server.

Sincerely, I cannot spell out the solution here step by step. Cause it is an easy patch and a very easy patch if Unifi wants to close the loophole. I will be curse for 7 generations by other Unifi Play TV users and their uncle aunties for giving them trouble, ha ha ha. Further more it may or may not help if you are not using Tx3 mini.

I might not be able to spell out the workaround, but I can give the next best thing.
If time permits, I will write out how the flag detection program works within the app.

Error 111 or 1111 (can't remember exact code)- relates to root
Error 15401 or 105401 (can't remember exact code) - relates to wifi requirement

A few months back, after the input from the seller I manage to replicate the errors and clear the errors at my will. It was only then I decided to just use a modded apk just for the few free channels. What is more, the modded apk is already given out in someone's earlier post with a cryptic link, ha ha ha.

BTW, to that someone, I have copy and paste pmed to you. You were not the first to ask me directly.

Why not get Tx3 Max model with the added Bluetooth feature?

5 months ago, I asked the seller the same question. Why it is not on sale in the shop. The reply is that he/she tested the model for some time and find it not stable, so decided not to put it up for sale.

In my mind at that time were 2 things,
i) wow, the seller actually put effort in testing the products
ii) most likely the sample product obtained was not good quality.


Because at that moment in time, I was contemplating getting the Tx3 Max from a different seller for the same price of around RM120+. The problem was it is Pre-Order item. So no guarantee of actually buying and probably have to wait 1 month to receive the goods.

Eventually after careful consideration of after-sales-service, I went for the safer guaranteed support from a technical seller rather than a full time trader. I have no regrets of my decision as my parents don't need the bluetooth feature that is predominantly used for connecting game controller.

With bluetooth it is definitely an improvement, but not totally essential.
- Can connect bluetooth head set.
- can pair with bluetooth remote control without expending another USB slot.
- can connect game controllers

Maybe the seller is correct, with the multitude of possible bluetooth feature added to the board, the overall performance suffers for tte Tx3.
Tx3 Mini do seem to be outselling Tx3 Max on every online site.

It is simple.

Most boxes incl tx3mini, tx5max, u can set BOTH ethernet and wifi ON.

Ethernet takes priority, wifi is actually not adtive.

That way, the app is "fooled", will allow the lan connection to work.

Just use official tmpad version, no problem.

All reviews i have read n watched give thumbs up to tx3mini 2+16gb and tx5max 4+32gb.
I have both and agree they are very good, excellent value for what they can do.

Tx6 is still new with android9 which been reported to have thermal and audio issues, and can't do many china apps.
Still waiting on tx6 users to comment further.

Spot on. Though there is more to it but the core idea is correct.

I find it hard to believe a user with the proper Tx3 mini device, cannot find out the solution within a few tries - after knowing the cause of Error 15401. That is why my first question to the forumer " Are you using Tx3 mini?"

I will throw in another hint - The Wifi Emulator setting did not trick Unify Play TV app. It probably confused us even more.

However with that being said, the Wifi Emulator setting in Tx3 is to address some apps that refuses to connect to internet when the mobile app cannot see wifi connection and assume mobile data is being used in the android box. An example of such app is pCloud.It is after all, normal that mobile apps developers design their app for smartphones only and didn't think of android box. So can't fault the mobile app. That is why Wifi Emulator setting comes into play. My hats off to the person who wrote up the Wifi Emulator and Superuser in the Droid Setting Column in the Tanix Tx series.

Hahahh....sorry for the delay bro. I'm on Mini M8S Pro. Running the box with Ugoos am3's firmware. Actually just tried my luck asking if they're any generic settings for the workarounds. I was previously running UnifiPlayTV on LAN alone...but after factory reset the box, I lost the "feature" huhuhu.
But nevermind that... think I'll just stick to my current's way of accessing the app.

And I never once bothered to call in those CnP bots on TM LoL...and they're quite good at parroting too LoL again....haha
Yup this what I practice ATM. And it was this way too that accidentally the box able to run on LAN even with WiFi turned off and that was story of 2 years ago. After resetting the box, and with enough tinkering, I still can't get to that "hidden" function hahaha.

I'm too on official apks for AstroGo, Njoi and UnifiPlayTV and on this am3's firmware the trio still survive even after several updates.... hope it stays that way for few more years.
