astrogo streams are all SD - 360 or 480p only.

poor if u r used to HD.

watchable if u hv no HD alternative.

of the three apps, i wud say in terms of video quality:

1. iflix
2&3. astrogo $ hypptv everywhere.

all 3 are stable, reliable.

**not using box for those but but smart androidtv tv.

sideload with es file explorer astrogo version 8.0.42.

I hv seen this many times.

Can u tell me what device, tv, internet speed u hv?

if not mistaken, this sony is androidtv android5.0.

it should work like my sharp android5.1.

first, uninstall any previous astrogo version as other version will not get installed unless u remove existing.

try below which i shared with other sharp users.

becos afaik, all current devices using google androidtv will work.

did u install the 2 other apps - indic keyboard and orientation from playstore?
former is required; if not, it will get stuck.
latter is required to change from portrait to landscape.

btw, what apps could u sideload to work? can do hypptv everywhere?

i am a bit surprised if u cannot get astrogo just like another sony 800c user.
androidtv should work, like sharp's ue630x range, and boxes like nvidia shield and mibox that use androidtv.
the explanation may be android 5.1 or higher is required.
anyway, this astrogo app is picky - won't run on just any tv or box.

Yes, sideload is good!

what u get at best is 480p - that's what is broadcasted. (only720p and above is classified at HD.)

and on a small device, 480p is very acceptable; even 360p is.

astrogo has no problems working on phones and tablets, any version, afaik.

the challenge is boxes and smart tv's.

astrogo works on ipads android tablets since 5 years ago.

even now, just install from playstore, will work.

it used to work on boxes in the beginning, then no more.

i way i understand it, apps like astrogo and hyppewhere are purposedly designed for portable devices only.

it is an issue about the app compatibility with the device's firmware.

(and nothing to do with root-unroot like many still think.)

a minority of boxes are compatible; majority are not.

and afaik, devices incl smart Tv's and boxes running on androidtv will work.

the explanation is probably astrogo/hypp wants to get approval to get their apps into this platform typically used by premium devices..

"androidtv" is a google controlled platform, much more restricted than the generic "android os", playstore is different.

just like u can't explain why some boxes rooted or unrooted won't work!

these thigns are complex, not as simple as they appear.

only the designers know... imo.


anyway, this thread is looking for boxes that can run astrogo, not phones or tablets.

if u can get your box to work, then it will be good news, can share it.

that's great.

there will be others looking for help, hope u can assist them.

but will be a challenge for noobs to do what u did.


personally, i dun use astrogo much even though i have it on 5.1 androidtv.

the quality is too low... i can get better alternatives.

himedia q10pro (and v soon, q5pro) with latest firmware can do astrogo and unifi playtv.

world cup 2018 starts june 14.

with sports pack, the 64 matches are on special channels 823 and 824 - labeled russia 2018 1 and 2 under sports category in astrogo.

W/o sports pack or non astro users, astrogo can still watch 22 out of 64 matches for free on astro arena.

u brought up an old post.

astrogo is probably the best one at this time - reliable and in 720p HD (but maybe low bit rate).

other alternatives - u can try livenet tv, red box, freeflix.

google to find the apk's.

those apps have some of the channels that should be broadcasting world cup 2018; quality/reliability may vary.

there is another problem currently...

WC2018 channels 823, 824... they should be in HD but drop to SD within 30 secs.

this does not happen to other HD channels incl arena and assp1-4.

and it only happens with boxes or androidtv tv, not phones and tablets.

maybe astro now has a way to throttle devices that they don't like...

I had been testing for a week now with 3 devices.

It is disappointing, esp for those who paid for the passes.

I do not know the diff in bitrate required between mobile devices vs boxes.

Maybe they sold too many passes, the boxes cant get sufficient bitrate.

Right now, 824 seems ok in hd while 823 still sucks in sd.

Anyway, i got something better now, no need for this asgo.


update:

channel 823 portugal-morocco match... in 540/576, an improvement from 240/360 last few days.

maybe people stopped buying their passes, less users...

Its either they r so clever to be able to discriminate or its simply overload due to oversold passes.

Some people are cheesed off after buying the passes.

But... there are always alternatives.

astrogo on androidtv... should work on your sony androidtv.

i am using current 8.2.1 on sharp androidtv.

if u hv already installed it, try this:

.. install INDIC keyboard from playstore; go to settings, set this keyboard to default.

the crash is due to incompatible original keyboard.

.. if u haven't, sideload an orientation app to make it landscape rather than portrait.
