QUOTE(-Dan @ Oct 13 2011, 06:24 PM) Cause they know how gullible the general public can be. On a side note, made these today. Chocolate quinoa protein bars! Recipe from Rob Riches. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Bought mine in Jusco. Expensive, no doubt. Heh, here's the video I got it from. I used chocolate instead of vanilla whey. A bit of advice. Unless you're sure of your baking skills, use half the ingredients (or less) to test it out first. I used 1 cup quinoa instead of 2 like Rob used, and I still got quite a decent amount out of the mixture. For roasting the nuts, about 5-8 minutes @ 170deg Celcius should do the trick provided the oven is preheated. Mine were slightly charred after leaving them in for 10 minutes. They're about an inch or so thick in the picture up there. Also, unless you have a damn powerful blender, blend the mixture in parts. I made the mistake of dumping the whole thing in and jamming up my blender, so I had to scoop it back out before I could continue. Also I noticed that after blending and adding the nuts/whey/raisins/etc, the consistency wasn't quite right, as in it was too sticky and clump and didn't combine well. Fixed that by adding milk gradually while mixing to combine. |

Way better than any macd burgers The BK Angus Steakhouse burgers were good. Especially when they had that RM 5 promo. Too bad I only ate it once. After that it was gone already. The size of the meat was huge too! Though, not as huge as German Deli at Ampang. |

Because it has too much fat, sodium and much lesser protein. 100g of the nuggests would give you about 15g of protein but it may have about 20g of fat. Once in a while is fine...I guess, but I just hate the sodium in it, and certain brand do have alot of flour in it too.so juz wanna get som facts lol...sure chicken meat > nugget..but nugget is convenient sometimes!=) |

QUOTE(hj.pet @ Jan 20 2012, 10:50 AM) but how about the fat content of all the foods? or just hentam saje? i dont usually care about fat content when i reach my daily minumum protein intake, sometimes at the end of the day, where i dont get enough calories, i will eat a whole packet of peanuts(high fat content, high calorie but also high protein snack), and go to sleep, everybody has diffferent body, i've once tried to avoid white rice and fats, eat only veggies and lean meat + several shakes a day, i ended up losing weight until 48KG, omg can u imagine i weighing 48KG, people can lift twice my bodyweight easily, so i give all in, eating white rice, everything, somedays i consume about 4000 calories, and i went from 48KG to 60KG in almost 3 month time, with only 2 % bodyfat raise, YEAHHHHH This post has been edited by VincentChen: Jan 20 2012, 10:57 AM |

Lol my diet is officially out of the window. Four days in a duty free island, enough beer to drown myself in and tonights dinner consisted of four types of protein buffet, pasta, and desserts.
I'm THIS close to throwing up, lol. Next week is gonna be fun. |

If cut now, i think that may not be the correct decision. Clean bulk is better from my opinion. Calculate ur intake, then u should fine to go on..

anyone looking for a cheap lunch around KL, head to Great Eastern Mall food court (Level 3). Look for a shop named Emira. Everyday i have my lunch which consist of rice, 2 chickens, 2 eggs, 2 kind of vege, all of this for RM6 only. Sometimes if the sellers mood is good, i can get the same dishes for RM5 only. I will try to get the photos for you guys.

Just curious,
Is a packet of soy milk (1 liter) a 'good' replacement for a whey shake post workout? I mean I've read about high GI carbs etc post-workout which soymilk doesn't have (it's just mostly simple sugars, at least the normal brands like yeos etc). |

QUOTE(strinq @ Mar 19 2012, 09:20 AM) Just curious, 1 liter of soy milk only contain 20g proteinIs a packet of soy milk (1 liter) a 'good' replacement for a whey shake post workout? I mean I've read about high GI carbs etc post-workout which soymilk doesn't have (it's just mostly simple sugars, at least the normal brands like yeos etc). whey shake 1 serving (if plus low fat milk) surely more than that...~60-90g |

Hmmm... Oh to get 60g you need about 2 scoops + at least 500ml milk. You take 2 scoops post workout + milk? That's a lot. Too much and if I'm not mistaken it just gets washed out of your system or worse gets converted to carbs. This post has been edited by strinq: Mar 19 2012, 11:56 PM |

QUOTE(raul88 @ Mar 20 2012, 12:36 AM) make sense then I'm almost your weight too.im 60kg thats roughly~132lbs lets take midpoint of 1.1-1.5=1.3g 132 X 1.3 = 171.6g from the mag ~180g Struggling to get 150g daily (without whey or other protein supps). With whey I'm sure it'll be easier. Am waiting for Eji to stock up, or will just maybe buy from another site since a lot of ppl find him a little unreliable. |

I practice 2.0 - 2.2 g of protein per kg of bw. I believe that is sufficient as long as you go above maintenance calories.
However you should increase your protein intake during cutting.. This post has been edited by kurtkob78: Mar 20 2012, 06:33 PM |

Ergh, just tried HL milk even though I'm lactose intolerant (just developed this like 2-3 years ago).
Felt that it was great gulping down 52g's of protein in 1L but the toilet sessions after that was .... Things I do for protein lol. But was wondering, do I actually digest the protein? Read an article saying that the protein gets digested and the only thing not digested is the lactose. True? But definitely no more milk for me. |

lactose will also be digested. but the metabolism of lactose im not sure. dono if its the same as lactose or glucose. fructose will be converted and stored in liver. while converted glucose will be stored in muscle.

My mixed rice is usually 3 bowls of rice with a LOT more chicken than yours, plus curry sauce, veg and 4-5 pieces of potatoes and steamed egg for 8 bucks. Pretty good deal too. This is near ampang. If i order the same thing at PJ SS2, its way more expensive, especially if i add eggs. Hard to find affordable food at PJ. Wow, yours is very worth it! Where you get yours? |

Not to mention at times, we tau pau nasilemak to eat in between...LOL |

They don't care about catabolism when it comes to endurance. It's a secondary issue. It's not a hypertrophy workout. You damn meathead you. =Pi seriously doubt it is a good practice... |

Do you guys still eat that much during non-training days (rest days) or limit yourself to low-carb/low caloric diet? Or just eat normally like any other days?

QUOTE(raul88 @ Mar 26 2012, 01:57 AM) some google thatI didQUOTE It seems to be a wide spread fallacy that if you do not suffer from soreness the next day or 2 after training you have not trained hard enough and will not get results. This is absolutely not the case. There is a difference between overtraining soreness and delayed onset muscle soreness or DOMS. The latter is not a negative but not necessary in order to show results. If you are sore after a workout for more than 2 days you probably are bordering on overtraining which is actually detrimental to your results and encouraging injury. There is a fine line or training zone for hypertrophy which basically means lean muscle gains. Training outside of the ‘2-4 sets of 8-12 rep’ range is going to promote strength or muscular endurance. This specific range is your ideal range for muscle growth and should be used during your bulking or growth cycle. I mention ‘cycle’ because I always encourage my clients to cycle their training and when I am programming their workouts I always ensure they cycle on and off growth, blending in the strength or muscular endurance as needed according to the results being sought. Strength is a good primer for hypertrophy especially if you are looking to be able to slowly increase weights used in the muscle gain ranges. While working in the muscle gain range you will want to choose enough weight to get your reps without being able to eek out one more rep. Finding this balance is hard and of course you will want to make your last sets so the weight may stay the same from set one to set 3 or 4 but seem to be tougher as you get near the end yet so that the first sets are not super easy. This comes with time, practice and experience but we all have to start somewhere. You may feel more soreness after a power or strength workout which consists of reps from 6 or less but these are not ideal figures for muscle growth. Not wrong and great for prep toward hypertrophy so they do go in hand but best cycled. Max OT seems to be a popular program to try for strength gains and when I tried it I got exactly that by utilizing higher weight enabling me to lift a tad more later on during muscle growth. Eventually the amount of weight you use for an exercise in hypertrophy will become lighter to you as you adapt, and the reps will go up into the muscular endurance phase which you cycle into as well. This means when you go back into the hypertrophy ranges you will be able to lift slightly more within that range showing adaptation. Of course soreness will happen and is normal but just don’t work toward soreness simply because it is your way to gauge growth, that is not correct thinking. Work toward completion of your sets and reps in the range of which you are seeking and count on that for the results sought. By Linda Cusmano |

there are two types of pain ; the good pain and the bad pain.
with the good pain, you still can train heavy ass regardless... as for the bad pain ( tore muscles, joint pain, etc ), u can't train as heavy or worst, u can't train at all... so suck up the pain, as what DL said, DOMs mean shit... |

Haha I wish I have the money to buy lots of nice food like DL.
Advice like ''eat more'' should come with ''if you have the money'', if not just stick to HUGE portion of home made economical food. This post has been edited by Dagger69: Mar 30 2012, 11:40 AM |

QUOTE(Aztec @ Apr 5 2012, 07:26 PM) or u could just be like me and go full retard on the bulk.. Yeah, it's not about the worries of cutting though.when its time to cut u will regret it though.. More on the health part as my family has a pretty bad medical history. So trying to eat less foods with too much well all the bad stuff lah. But not bad, 1 month gain bout 1kg +. Am hoping its muscle instead of fat though... |

QUOTE(KingArthurVI @ Apr 12 2012, 10:52 PM) Me and gym mate's lunch. Each plate got 2 cuts of fish, fried chicken and others different. RM24 total. Is it expensive? yes.. RM12 for lunch daily adds up.The best solution would be of course to cook/prepare your own food. But if convenience is a problem, then I would suggest eating a clean regular meal and throwing in a protein shake to go with it to bump the protein count. |

Am trying to vary my protein source as much as I can everyday. Staple now would be soft tofu (cheapest) and eggs. |

QUOTE(reddevilchoo @ Apr 13 2012, 11:41 PM) Goodness. Fridge left 3 eggs only for tmr's breakfast. Lol. No, this has been discussed many times before. You may want to look into the effect of direct cholesterol consumption and what it has on your body as well as how cholesterol works and is made within the body itself. But does egg yolk increase cholesterol level? some info: http://stronglifts.com/cholesterol-saturat...any-eggs-daily/ The yolk also contains loads of vitamins and minerals which will be wasted if thrown out. The reason you see experienced bodybuilders go for just egg whites or have lets says 2 full eggs + 3 egg whites ratio is they are controlling the source of daily caloric intake portions of macros(carbs, protein and fats). These guys have certain daily protein, carb AND fat intake reqs to meet. |

Hi guys, I've been working out for about 2-3 months.
I'm planning to de-load this week (actually more like forced to... Pulled a chest muscle quite badly till it hurts every time I take a breath. Deep breaths = a world of pain). So my 'deloading' will be a 100% rest (since I can't really breath hard anyway) instead of lowering my weights etc. Also, I'm bulking. My question is: Should I just maintain my diet? Been getting at least 1g protein per pound bodyweight and eating as clean as possible. Have gained about 2-2.5kg in a month and a week. I've been reading a few articles and a lot of them states that it should be the same. A pro trainer said that he lets his students relax both mentally and physically (ie: not really caring whether they're getting 3 or 6 meals a day, a bit more cheat meals but not junking of course). Will it be bad if I actually take a little under maintenance? I mean I was wondering if I can actually try to lose a little bit of fat for that week or will it not matter at all? Cheers. |

Unfortunately you just have to eat more. If you can't bulk after already taking mass gainers, you're definitely not eating enough. What's your diet like? Your height and weight? |

QUOTE(strinq @ Apr 20 2012, 10:40 PM) Ok, meaning I'll have to eat like 600-700 cals less than what I'm eating now since I'm on a bulking diet. I'm not a scientist or a doctor. I just talk based on my experience. You sure bro? Muscles grow when we r rest. Hence some will maintain the diet even when they r rest (some even did it for bulking) But if u do think maintaining is not enough and want to shred some fat as extra, cutting the cals may help. But it's should be too extreme. However, if i'm u I will juz eat as I feel of course I dun eat junks n too much. Because it takes over 3500 kcal to burn off a fat. Let's say u try to work on calorie deficit, 3500/200= 17 days and more. In this case when u r not goin to workout, u depend on ur daily metabolism. Unless U have ways to spike up metabolism. I believe even clean bulk gain little bit of fat, n u try to shred off fat during bulking period. And the reasons I recommend maintain or less 200, it's that when u intake is much, but ur body do not need so many, u wasted it and worse u gain and stored fat which mostly is not the reason y u want to bulk. But if u feel that all ur hardworks r worth, ur body will need resources to build that muscle during ur rest, go ahead with ur current diet. After all, it's really up to u. Trials and errors like this will not kill u. U have a whole life to experiment wif it. Added on April 21, 2012, 2:36 am QUOTE(Ahjosh @ Apr 21 2012, 12:19 AM) er guys can i have suggestion on eating to bulk up,been eating alot, but still not kinda effective...any suggestion to bulk up??im currently also taking mass gainer..need advise from sifu here.. Diet is important for u to bulk up, what you eat, how much you eat and how you eat all determine whether u will be big or small.U said not effective but it means u see changes, right? Beside diet, u got to workout too. But most important is, REST! For all sort of changes that you want ur body to happen, as simple as you r sick, you want recover, to you r thin you want to bulk, REST and SLEEP. Have enough rest and allow your body to absorb and assimilate the nutrients. This post has been edited by van_takawa: Apr 21 2012, 02:36 AM |

QUOTE(strinq @ Apr 20 2012, 10:11 PM) Hi guys, I've been working out for about 2-3 months. Wow, your injury is that bad? I'm guessing that you need more than 3 weeks to recover no? I'm planning to de-load this week (actually more like forced to... Pulled a chest muscle quite badly till it hurts every time I take a breath. Deep breaths = a world of pain). So my 'deloading' will be a 100% rest (since I can't really breath hard anyway) instead of lowering my weights etc. Also, I'm bulking. My question is: Should I just maintain my diet? Imo, you should stop a while on your bulking diet. Since you are not going to do any workout, your muscle ain't got any 'minor trauma' thus it is impossible to grow (you have proper diet, enough rest but no workout = muscle not increasing). Therefore, I'm suggesting that either you eat you maintenance calorie to maintain your muscle or you can drop your calorie for cutting purpose. But then, cutting will going to reduce your muscle mass as you cannot workout to maintain your muscle (one of the main reasons to workout during cutting). So, it is better to maintain what you have atm by eating your maintenance calorie. Anyhow, goodluck on your recovery and try not to push yourself so much. Let the injury heal. When you say that you've been eating a lot, expert will say that you aren't. How is your diet? Maybe you can post your daily food intake here and we will tell you if you are eating enough or not.But on the other hand, you might try GOMAD which is Gallon Of Milk A Day if you are not lactose intolerant. QUOTE(pedro @ Apr 21 2012, 09:19 AM) Am cutting with 1.5-2g of protein per Lbs of bodyweight. Pedro, would you mind sharing your macro for cutting with me for comparison purpose? I'm 204.6 lbs with 126.72 lbs lean body mass at 38% body fat and 1987kcal calorie needed for cutting . Right now I'm taking 1.55g protein per lean body mass, 0.8g fat per lean body mass and the balance will be carb. Although I have 90g++ for carb, I tend to take around 30++ and replace them with protein. Don't worry so much about it,get better first! So, this is my daily macro intake: 197g protein, 101g fat and 73g carb. But then, I would reduce the carb intake (low-carb and low-calorie diet) thus my daily macro intake would be 233g protein, 101g fat, 27g carb. So far, I've seen the effect. Manage to rid a lot of fat in my body but if there is a better way, why shouldn't I try right? |

Right now I'm taking 1.55g protein per lean body mass, 0.8g fat per lean body mass and the balance will be carb. Although I have 90g++ for carb, I tend to take around 30++ and replace them with protein. No problem! Maintenance:1900 Weight:190Lbs Bodyfat: About 15% Training days: Protein: 300g Fat:60g Carbs:200g Off days: Protein: 220g Fat:180g Carbs:<30g Yours seems fine, mine are a bit off as I don't remember the exact values, just round off to lowest to be safe! |

Well, I've never been a big eater and 1g per lbs is already pretty hard for me. Salmon Ground beef Chicken Broccoli Bell Peppers Onions Eggs Oats Peanut butter No fixed diet,I just rotate among these whenever I feel like it. Its not that strict actually,I even eat at mamaks occasionally. I use supps to complete whatever is required. It just has to fit the macros! |

Unfortunately you just have to eat more. If you can't bulk after already taking mass gainers, you're definitely not eating enough. What's your diet like? Your height and weight?
Added on April 21, 2012, 2:36 am Diet is important for u to bulk up, what you eat, how much you eat and how you eat all determine whether u will be big or small. U said not effective but it means u see changes, right? Beside diet, u got to workout too. But most important is, REST! For all sort of changes that you want ur body to happen, as simple as you r sick, you want recover, to you r thin you want to bulk, REST and SLEEP. Have enough rest and allow your body to absorb and assimilate the nutrients.
Added on April 21, 2012, 3:47 am When you say that you've been eating a lot, expert will say that you aren't. How is your diet? Maybe you can post your daily food intake here and we will tell you if you are eating enough or not. But on the other hand, you might try GOMAD which is Gallon Of Milk A Day if you are not lactose intolerant.
my height is about 165,body weight 58 currently.sure i'll take some photos and show u guys, but no oily foods rite? |

Ok, this is what I eat daily (and it's considered quite little compared to the other guys here).I was 63kg a month ago and gained ~2kg in that one month. Morning 2-4 eggs 5-6 tablespoons of oat + 2.5 tablespoons of milo Lunch Normal Rice More than usual meat (i try to go for lean chicken breast/meat whenever I can) About 1/3 - half a plate of veggies Sometimes 1 whole piece of tofu (like 10cm x 6cm) Tea? 1 can of tuna Oats + milo (like morning) Dinner Something like lunch + fruit Supper 1 whole piece of soft tofu (300g) or 2 pieces of firm tofu Sometimes another 2 eggs - more like I eat the remaining protein that I need for the day at this time and little bit of carbs if I'm hungry Throughout the day I would try for a liter of soy milk or low fat milk (but can't really do this as I'm slightly lactose intolerant). On training days I add 1 scoop of whey protein after working out. HL milk is a great way to add calories. *the key here is the lunch and dinner. Most people think they eat a lot but they don't. Do a honest comparison to the big guy who's eating beside you. Also, my diet is far from being a 'good' diet. It's just working for me so far. I think the weight gained is mostly muscle lol. protein shake is optional. If your protein consumption for the day is sufficient, no need extra. but protein shake is good after workout because it got absorb fast and also. its convenient and does not fill you up so you can eat more to gain weight

QUOTE(janson_kaniaz @ May 13 2012, 10:25 AM) Lol, clean as in hygienic. Food on the streets/stalls/warungs in Jakarta aint hygienic compared to KL - stomachahces are common among foreigners especially for the 1st few weeks. So I opt to get mine either from restaurants or I cook myself. |

As I will be moving to Penang soon (from the UK) I was hoping to find out what sort of costs I can expect for meat and eggs there. In the UK I am used to pork being the cheapest meat (it can be found for RM11.5/kg) but with Malaysia being a muslim country I'm not sure it will be the same there. If someone could give me the average prices I'd be very grateful.

Yeap. Same here, I stop using whey powder starting May 2012. Trying my best to get it from solid food. Really have to spend some time in buying groceries and cook in the kitchen. But i enjoyed it. |

Guys, whats the healthiest food you can eat from mamak shop at night supper for clean bulk?
I cant stand looking at my friends eating maggie goreng, roti canai banjir, milo ais so i keep rejecting them. now they are making noises. All i can think of is naan kosong. Edit :- Found out this info already.. Naan, Chapati, Thosai. Tandoori chicken is the best if you end up in a mamak shop for lunch. ''Lean Protein which is baked so the fat drips off in clay oven.'' found out a week a go. half a small chicken with rice RM5/= in Desa Setapak. its a Malay run stall in front of kopitiam next to the most popular bubble tea shop.
the chinese chicken rice equivalent would cost me RM15/= or RM20/= depending on where you are. |

QUOTE(Dolphee @ Jun 13 2012, 09:36 AM) One question guys, how do you keep lean when you have so much calories per meal as posted? Or you guys are aiming for weight gain? The thing with lots of lean muscle mass is that you need lots of calorie to maintain it. If you need 4000kcal for calorie maintenance, you had to eat 4000kcal. Below that, you will start losing weight; either from fat or muscle or both. You eat more than your calorie maintenance, you will grow your muscle or fat or both; usually the latter. |

Whether you are cutting or bulking ultimately depends on calories in-calories out. Your body doesn't automatically stop working just because your asleep. In fact, alot of healing, absorption, growth goes on as you rest. Mind you, this 'eating before you sleep' is a popular debated topic - in the end, see how you feel lah~ Listen to your body. If you eat too much feel sick - eat less or dont eat. Eat too much carbs, getting rounder-make it more protein rich. Figure out whats best for your body. I will say though that nutrient absorption after workout is unbeatable so eating after a workout, even late at night, cant go wrong. MY OPINION only k Maybe some other much more experienced bb here can give more definitive answer This post has been edited by shadowz: Oct 31 2012, 12:39 PM |

Seriously too much reading end up confusing myself. Every forum/article say different thing. Maybe my english standard cannot understand them well. I don't know.
Sometimes next day I get upset stomach or the thing i scare most, food poisoning. Perhaps it has something to do with the food i ate? So, now i stick with mass gainer + creatine. Too much protein also not so good cause I can't sleep well. Have to wake up at 5am~6am to pee. |

If not on workout day, watch the sauces unless you're sure of the macros. Hahaha definitely cannot (and do not) indulge like that if not workout day This post has been edited by shadowz: Nov 1 2012, 10:23 PM |
