Wanted to post my impressions on the U30 that I had the pleasure of calibrating last week.

The improvements over the U20 are better colour accuracy in TrueCinema mode. Blacks are better than the stock U20. Refresh rate of 24p material is 96Hz! The U20 was 60Hz so pulldown was done, this year no pulldown.

The cons were, there is definately some energy savings being hard coded. I could not get the contrast as high as the U20. Also the gamma is not as accurate as the U20.

Will post numbers of the black levels in the black level measurement thread.

Wow. This is impressive indeed, I thought only the VT30 had proper 24p refresh rate.

Didi you detect any fluctuating brightness or floating blacks in this model?

Gamma is not close to 2.1?

Hi guys,

Im still thinking whether to buy the panasonic plasma U30 unit.

Anyone of you encountered or observed the lagging? I noticed this when it was compared side to side with the 42" UT30 which has 1080 lines moving picture resolution while the u30 has 900 only.

Aside from that UT30 has 24p Smooth/Playback film compared with the U30's 24p Playback only.

Out of curiosity, can u really make out 900 vs 1080 lines of moving resolution?

I hv tested the U30 and it refreshes 24p at 96Hz. Smooth would mean that there is a motion interpolation option to refresh at 60Hz. I would think refreshing 24p in multiples of 24Hz would be a better picture. If u r looking for motion interpoloation then yes probably there is an extra option on the UT.

Got my P65VT30.

After using it for a few days, these are my initial impressions:

1) It is a great TV with superb images and 3D performance.
2) So far I have not had any fluctuating brightness issues for my July 2011 manufactured TV.
3) Unlike my previous 42" Panny Plasma which was good to go straight out of the box, this TV has to be calibrated to produce better colours and performance.
4) Network Streaming and Viera Connect are really impressive. Works well out of the box and has really great potential. I am using UNIFI 5MB, and am streaming movies from the net at pretty good quality without buffering.
5) I will be skyping via the TV from now on as it is such a cool feature and so great to use.

Hi,

Appreciate your feedback. Perhaps most of the time you wont be able to distinguished it. But I really noticed the lag when some parts of the DEMO display is playing the scene where it's slowly capturing the Model Cars (bright colors) in the movie.

Again, it was side to side comparison against UT30. And the UT30 handles it very well. Try and see it at best denki Suria KLCC. =)

Thanks and Regards,

if there was lag on a blu ray then something is wrongly setup. Lag is something that is for games. Where they using a splitter? Both being fed the same source? Was the source playing at 24p?

Ok, I think before there is miscommunication between what I am saying and what I think u r saying let me explain.

24p material is low frame rate, the motion will never be silky smooth even if it is refreshed at 96Hz. The higher the refresh rate, under normal circumstances, the smoother the motion. However, in my opinion there is a threshold. Anything above 72Hz refresh rate of 24p material ie 96Hz and above looks closer to video than film. This can be clearly seen in the end credits where the text is moving up/down....

Now, if there is motion interpolation algorithms that add frames while doing pulldown and then refreshing it at 60Hz or multiples of it (ie the smooth thing that u mention), will seem to show smoother motion. However, even the best of algorithms will introduce motion artefacts. If u watch close enuf, u will some some tearing or some sort of issue. This is more apparent in bigger monitors. Motion interpolation not done well will make film look like video shots.

If refreshing of 24p is done without motion interpolation at 60Hz via 3:2 pulldown, then there will be judder.

I am not sure what u mean but lag, but it shd be one of the 3 above.

However, if u feel the UT30 in smooth mode is giving u better motion smoothness, then go for it. Ur eyes are the ultimate test, if u like it then its right for u.

Thanks again for your feedback. Looking on the brighter side, do you think the 50" U30 is a best buy? What do you like about it?
It's sad that Panasonic will not release the 50" version of the UT30 here in MY.

I like the more accurate colours in TrueCinema. I like the 96Hz refresh rate for 24p material.

I am not thrilled about the black levels and I believe Panasonic selected the hardcoding of the gamma of 2.0 due to the not so great black levels. Yet at the price its going for, its a decent 1080p set.

No... you can pick up this set brand new from sellers here on LYN for same price (1pc glasses, 1pc skypecam, 1pc 3d BD) ... also, if you look around here you can find excellent good price on set + 4pc glasses. Don't ever buy a display set, not worth it.

Hi guys,

Anybody used the Pana Skype camera yet with their Panasonic Plasma?
How is the experience, any issues getting connected esp. if the other side is on PC?

Reason I asked - i read on Amazon feedbacks it says that both side must have the same Pana Skype camera and similar Pana TV only then can work - which I find it's quite stupid if that's the case ?

Thanks in advance....

Hi.
Want to ask about TH-P50U30K:

1. Does it still have the image burn problem?
For example astro logo still got after change channel, when play ps3 too long got burn mark.

2. What movie file format does it support?

3. It is stated wifi ready. Does it really have wifi?
or i need to buy wifi adapter?what's the price?

Thanks.

Hi Pana fan, dropped by to Best Denki at 1U and saw Panasonic 50" 3D plasma full HD tv displaying avatar...pretty impressive with the colour and dark level compared to U series plasma, anybody know what's the model for that? the price is roughly around RM7k for 50".....

your p50u30k can't play mkv file?is this also same goes to p42?? or only certain mkv can't play? bit confius...
*
mine have no problem playing mkv files..even a 1080p mkv...but up to a certain size of mkv files..say bigger than 10GB, you'll start seeing jerkiness..not good..
audio wise..this tv will never ever support DTS..so, if you hv a lot of mkv movie files with dts audio..don't bother..get your self a proper media player that can do it all..

*
I have tried this with VT20. It works with video call to pc. Camera and mic quality are impressive. Making video call to pc works fine. However, it has its flaw when receiving calls. The program loading is slow, before the Skype is loaded, call will be dropped at the pc end as no answer. The TV is able to pick up the 2nd call if the pc user retry after first dropped call. Maybe there is some improvement with Viera Connect of this year model.

Added on October 3, 2011, 1:29 pmBy the way, you can always return call if you missed the first call. A bit troublesome.

Hi all, I spotted Panasonic 50" 3D FULL HD Plasma (P50ST30K) which selling at RM6,999...love the black level, contrast in this series when they display Avatar but I'm not ready with the 3D technology, wondering is there model out there can compete with this model?

The U-series plasma by Panasonic is not as good as this...any other option?

bas12,

I faced the same problem on other shop seller for 50u30k model.
actually I did pay the booking fees, currently just try to wait and see how. =.=

Dear others,
If not mistaken, the U series should be launched at 2011 March, how come this model to be discontinued so fast?
Which is the new model going to replace it?

Thanks....

it is quite standard 1 year for replacement...
highly believe 30K series will replace by 38K series as the SenQ ads posted in sinchew newspaper today...

but still i try to google the models selling by SenQ, unfortunately no much info...
hopefully wasnt the typo as advertised...

I guessed, the should be a typo error, as the spec is still same as X30K.
and X series is not FHD yet...

and this model is only selling for 7 months, is it too fast to get replacement?
Please correct me, if I am wrong...

and May I know what is the price for UT series now?

thanks.

u can try look on the TV on sinchew...
seem the TV stand base is oval design... but 30k series is square design...
somemore stated "exclusive" on the pricing there... so highly is the latest model

anyway, X series always HD ready only, only U series is Full HD...

but if SenQ selling TH-P50X38K HD Ready @ RM3799, it is almost there...
bcos the market selling price (non promo price) of TH-P50X30K about RM3099 and TH-P50U30K about RM3799

You can't understand my post above. I mean why you want to get a HD ready model TH-P50X38K for RM3799 from SenQ while you can get a Full HD model TH-P50U30K for RM2799? If's there's model such as TH-P50U38K & TH-P50X38K, that's just those so called 'Exclusive' model for SenQ with the same spec of TH-P50U30K and TH-P50X30K.

TH-P50U30K was 2011 model. Don't listen to bulls**t from those sales at SenQ or others big outlet if they say it's discontinued. They just want to push their so called exclusive model.

I also dont think that the 50u30k will be discontinued in this year actually.
I agreed what you are trying to say there....
even when I go to order this model, the shop seller also try to persuade me to get other LED tv,
and from their display unit, it shows that this model is so so so dark, you wont go to buy this model if you see it.

But lucky that I got see it before on other place and Panasonic show booth as well.
The image is really a lot better than the setting in their shop.
I guessed that this 50" price is quite low and show good picture enough,
if they set the best for settings for this tv, they will not able to push other brands and models to reach their sale target.
bcoz the led tv is more expensive with smaller inches of size.

but really duno why, it has no stock now....

TH-P50U30K can be found at RM2799 or even lower, which's way cheaper than RM3799 TH-P50X38K HD ready model.. which to me considered a good buy already for a 50" Full HD model. So, there's no point looking at a HD ready model. Also, it's not the replacement model for the X30 or U30 series..
I believe those 'exclusive' model will be available only via SenQ or the rest of large outlet such as Tesco, Jusco etc..

April/May of this year the 30k price about RM3300, after 1 month drop till RM2999, later drop again RM2799... sweat.gif
i worry another price drop another Rm100-200 next months from Rm2799 as the price oledi few months here...

anyway, my neighbour's fren's fren selling 30k RM2650, believe should be FHD model...

Thanks... Please let me to know...
Actually I did pay a booking fees to a shop, but they still not able to help me to get it after 1 week.
If they still cannot get it by about 2 weeks time, I may cancel its booking and find the others.

Going by Panny's past practice, the X38K is just a different version of X30K but still belongs to the 2011 family of models.

The 2012 models will likely have 40K in their model names if the naming convention continues.

Just like the 28K vs 20K, the 28K model is solely sold by Jusco (?). So, the 38K models are maybe sold by certain retailers?

RM3050 for TH-P50U30K should be considered a good buy if RM2799 with a standard 2 years warranty. Panasonic extended warranty to 5 years normally at least cost RM250.

Your PC graphic card support HD output? With a HDMI port or using DVI port? Or are you using VGA connection?

If HDMI, check under display properties whether output to TV is 1920x1080.

If yes and still overscan, then the only thing left is your plasma TV Overscan feature still on. Check under Menu->Setup->Other settings->16:9 Overscan-> Off

Hi guys, thinking of getting myself TH-P42U30K Viera Plasma....

any current user of this model willing to provide feedback on the following:

1) Glass panel glare
- bad or acceptable (no need anti glare screen)

2) Media player compatibility through USB connection
- can it read directly from External HDD i.e. 3.5 2TB HDD
- can it play decent 1080p mkv files? DTS audio?

Most of the electronic shops in SS2 are selling the TH-P50U30K for 2680 currently without freebies and the standard 2 years warranty.

For those bad comments, you can easily get them by goolge their shop's name.
and those comments were posted since about 2008 to 2010 only.

related to their staff attitude, delivery goods timing, the price you get may can also get by other place,
the model that they are telling you whether is the model you got it or not, and etc.

Those are the old comments, I dont know whether they change now already or not because I didnt see the bad comment on 2011.

But to enter this shop on the first time, just try to be careful for all these...

Yeah - local panasonic site not updated. The international panasonic site has info on the 3rd gen glasses.

I got them at Harvey Norman, Pavilion -- came with the GT20K -- its a M (medium) size pair ; but does not come with a case (can buy a cheap custom box outside) - not sure if you can try them out there as they may not have a demo set - but give it a shot.

The retail sticker lists about 'RM 800' sad.gif But they might give a discount.

If not a mistaken, VT20 is a model name, K is the country selling code or manufacture country code.

Please correct me, if I am wrong.

Your PC graphic card support HD output? With a HDMI port or using DVI port? Or are you using VGA connection?

If HDMI, check under display properties whether output to TV is 1920x1080.

If yes and still overscan, then the only thing left is your plasma TV Overscan feature still on. Check under Menu->Setup->Other settings->16:9 Overscan-> Off

tried that also not working.. i'm using hdmi connection... tried with my gtx260 & from laptop also still overscan... but when i put video mode in game mode... the display autocorrect the overscan but in other mode still overscan.

I haven't watch anything on it yet other than the break-in slides. I'll be subscribing to IPTV, so i hope it'll be as good as what Astro claimed that it should.

I got mine for like 3 months already. Didn't really did the break in thingy. I just set most of my viewing mode to Cinema. tongue.gif

Did watched a lot of movies with 800p running on 16:9 and 16:10. laugh.gif

But you can really see the burn in some times when you switch off your plasma after a long run and make sure your surrounding is dark.

You can sometimes see the mark there but it will be gone the next time u open it. brows.gif

What about normal over-the-air TV channel? Is it "watchable"?
Am asking coz my friend told me that his 46" Sharp AQUOS LED is not as good (a bit blur due to the large screen size?) as CRT TV when viewing normal TV.
So just wondering if the Panasonic 50" is better. Thanks.

Would you mind to elaborate what do u mean by NOT SO CLEAR? Was it:
1) blurry OR
2) dimmed (low brightness) OR
3) unsharp image OR
4) anything else (kindly pls explain)

It will help us understand your problem further...TQ notworthy.gif

Can't wait to try it but i doubt I'll be able to sit in front of a TV that long, max is just a movie or 2-3 drama episodes LOL. I'd be back to my laptop afterward LOLOL.

No idea man, the tv is not plugged to anything other than the power & the sd card that i'm using to play the slideshow. I believe that the clearer/sharper your tv is, the more apparent a low quality source will be. Its the same like my parents 42" Sharp Aqous LCD Full HD, can see those pixel for Astro sources, PS3 is super clear exactly like a HD, which it is.

I have seen the Sharp 46" LED and my Plasma 50". Both not good. Only buy these HDTVs if you want to watch Astro Byond or HD movies via media player. Otherwise, save your money and stick to CRT. Worst is LCD that makes you want to puke.

The image is not that clear example we watchinh espn., the image is not clear when the tv viewinhg whole field, once it come to viewing the player, the view is ok.

I would to say if i come closer to the tv, i can see those dotted, it is normal? But if i view from far, it is ok.

I believe your LCD is perfectly OK...
Normal Astro transmitted in SD format (Standard Definition 480p) which suit older CRT TV...
When u view the same through Full High Definition 1080p TV such as your LCD of course the image will be stretch & become pixellated because of its lower resolution..
it will further noticeable when u sit close to the screen....

Having said that, to enjoy true benefits of HDTV u need to watch high definition material such Astro Byond, Blu-Ray etc.... icon_rolleyes.gif
Otherwise, better stick with 29 CRT TV which definitely better for watching normal astro.. notworthy.gif

P/S: No one sit close to watch 42inch LCD...u need to sit 5-8 feet away from it sweat.gif

I don think so Samsung PS51D490A1 is Full HD Plasma. I was also mistaken last week as I was sourcing TV for my In Laws, lucky I googled and found this is not Full HD TV.

It explains why it's cheap. better invest more money or have a look at coming HomeDec.

some say we dont, some say we do..
but if u called the manufacturer, they always recommend us to do it... professional image calibrator prefer to calibrate a display after a controlled break-in in done..

we do break-in so the plasma phosphur/panel can age evenly... and for the first 100hrs, the phosphur/panel is more prone to image retention..

Hi guys. What do you guys think of the VIERA TH-L42E30K?

Is it good? I have totally no idea in TV sets. First time buying a LED/LCD TV. Or should I get plasma really? It seems cheaper too.

Picture quality wise, the VIERA TH-L42E30K has an IPS screen which in turns compensate the lack of color accuracy in normal TN panels right? So how does it fare against traditional plasma televisions?

Will be using the TV mainly for Astro watching and little bit of DVD quality playback only. Not planning to get the bluray player soon.

I don't worry that much. Probably shut down 1 plant and open another new plant with cheaper labour cost at third world country and able to aviod high Yen and continue to compete with Korean competitors. No big issue, just strategy changed. blush.gif

wait for the 2012 model in April (launch in March 2012)

FHD panel supply shortage from japan plant + bangkok flood = end of P50U30 for 2011 range.

Any recommendation for 40'' or 42'' LCD or LED TV?USB support is preferable.
I mainly watch Astro (Non-HD/Byond) and sometimes I do watch some 720p films downloaded from Internet too.
My budget is around or below RM2000.
If possible, can anyone list out where can I get the best deal in Klang Valley area? (FYI, I live in Setapak)
Thanks first. rclxms.gif

Hi,

Just bought a NEW 42u30k from a trader here. I checked the usage hours it says 366, and also powered on 52 times. is this normal? If so, please tell me. Or is this likely a display unit?

Need advice. thanks,

Hi,

Just bought a NEW 42u30k from a trader here. I checked the usage hours it says 366, and also powered on 52 times. is this normal? If so, please tell me. Or is this likely a display unit?

Need advice. thanks,

MJ

I am finally switching over to Plasma from CRT and I am in favour for the Panny 50" U30 FHD panel. Don't need 3D but appreciate value. What's the best price for this TV? I am in Penang, so would appreciate tips to where to get the best deal. I went to SEC and they are selling at RM3499 with 2 years warranty. Any better deals out there?

I heard that there are limited stocks out there for U30 now. not sure how true it is. Since the factory in Thailand had been flooded and some rumors about 2012 model coming out. Maybe someone can shed some light on this.

Last news i read, Panasonic trying to cut its Japan Plasma production (maybe move to other country). Thai flood may not be affected that much unless some other component are from Thailand.

I found a shop in Penang selling the P50U30K FHD for RM2799, cash price only. I think this is the best price so far. Not sure if they have stock. No time to ask as after browsing Jusco, HN, and SenQ, had to rush off but saw this shop and peeped in and saw the nice price.

Guys, how do I check how many hours/minutes a Panasonic LCD TV has been on? Can't remember the exact term for this but I think I may have read somewhere that even if you reset everything to default you can't reset this 'total time turned on' data..

To all Panny plasma owners,

There is a recent firmware update available for your tv, which said to improve media player compatibility. The only negative point is that you need to copy over to SD card for upgrade.

http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/tv/d...down_aamo1.html

I am downloading and hopefully can update within these few days.

Thanks for highlighting...for V series (2010 models) your latest FW should be 5.606; your tv should have automatically updated it, when you run VIERA; else could be downloaded here...for those who dont have internet connected to TV

if u r in Klang Valley, don't think you can find any U30K anymore. If you are moving in next year, might as well wait for their new model coming out which is around that month too. But confirm it's 3.5K and above I guess.

hey can anyone recommend a 55" plasma for me? it is for a big family area with viewing distance of up to 12 feet.

i need it to be cheap as well, but i dont want to compromise on the PQ> thus i could do away with those 3D glasses features, smart tv and all, dont need them. but if no choice ill take them lah

I bought a 50v20 one year ago, that model no longer available now. Thinking of getting a new plasma with equally good quality for my parent. Have been looking at the 50u30k, can't compare them side by side. Can any experts give me some idea to help me make the decision. I do not need the 3d function, or shall I go for the v version?

i'm comparing pana VIERA TH-P50VT30K and LG LED 47LW5700.

price for pana = 8.1k
price for LG    = 6.1K

hassling which one is better. Any sifu here can help??

Itg all depends what you want. There is no real good or bad, but your preference. Id you like bright and vivid then go with LED. If you like accurate picture reproduction and more of a cinema mood, with capable of reproducing fast moving action; then plasma. Good luck

This model was being sold at around RM2700 a month back, but seems that its an obsolete model (new model coming?) as most dealers not having stock now.

Now is November, new model only available around Feb or Mar-2012. So this model is still current.

Guys, I just got a call from my wife that power socket made some noise when she tried to turn on the TV (P50U30K). Not the power switch on the TV yet, just the power socket on the wall. I'm currently in the office and will be back home around 9pm. I asked her to turn off the power socket for the mean time till I come home.

Now I'm abit worried, the TV is just 2 months old.

Anyone had similar experience? Is it because of unregulated electricity supply? Has anyone using AVR (automatic voltage regulator) for your tv? Yup, the one that we normally use for PC.

no need AVR, voltage fluctuation does not have significant effects on TV electronics.

1. buzzing sound behind TV set? it could be the power inverter (transformer).

2. Bad contact on the socket wall? make sure not to plug in other high load devices on the same socket.

have you tried calling customer service ? perhaps a warranty?

call pana for warranty...andif your place is prone for lightning; then you need to do something to protect it...(there are many products, from AVR, UPS, isolater, etc)

Heh.....my Panny TH-P42S10K cost me almost RM5k 3 years ago!! Prices are always on the decline as more canggih models become available.

A case in point, I bought a Toshiba 32PS10E LED almost 3 months back at RM1.8k. It's now going for RM1499 or RM1599 only. Best Denki at 1U re-opening sale (they re-located to LG from 2nd floor) for the same thing at RM1299 rclxub.gif

Do you have Best Denki or Harvey Norman in JB? If yes, check out their prices. FYI, ask for discount. They do allow for some discount from their listed prices.

Rasahman, i am also on the lookout for the same model pana plasma TH50U30k in JB. I will only buy if the price is below rm2400.
my reason is this model was being offered 2 months back for rm2999 with free 24" lcd tv worth rm599, at that time samsung plasma series 4 51" plasma tv was selling at rm3000. now this samsung model is already selling at rm2499, so it has dropped a lot.

price difference between pana 50u30k and samsung series 4 plasma is about rm500-600.
but due to shortage of pana plasma 50" , i think the price of th5-u30k has not dropped so much like samsung.

i will be going to a couple of big electrical shops this weekend to check the price , if u r keen , we can group together and bargain for better price from the shop.

what say u ?

Not sure if the USB port can support USB Wifi dongle but since there is an ethernet port available, you could consider using a pair of homeplugs in event it does not.

If you are willing to part with RM869, the latest ACRyan Veolo is worth considering.

I have no doubt on this. Sammy's LED TVs were the first to hit the market. I recall when launched here, the cost of a 40" was almost RM10k, super thin by standards then.

In what way do u mean better...

The pros for LED backlit LCDs in my mind is the ability to go brighter when the material has a lot of white or light coloured scenes (ie, pictures of snow filled scenes, ice hockey etc) since plasmas are governed by APL. Not having to worry about burn in as much if u game a lot. On better LCDs they have less of a gradiation issue at dim scenes.

The cons are off centre viewing has colour shift. Most LED backlit LCDs have halos or clouding, and post calibration don't put out as bright an image as well (however they are not governed by APL so it is still brighter than plasmas if the scenes have large patches or white or light coloured scenes). Motion is normally not as smooth as well.

Its important to understand that each tech has its weaknesses. So as long as u r aware of them u can decide which one works for u.

Again, in what sense?

If u compare Sammys top range plasma vs Panny's top range plasmas for this year.

Sammys have better colour accuracy but Panny has better blacks... Depending on which is more important to u, it can be a tie.

The Pannys this year are much more difficult to calibrate due to an over aggresive ABL circuit.

Both can have reference greyscale post calibration. Colour as I stated the Sammy can be more accurate. Panny has issues with 50Hz material, albeit much improved from last year. The Sammys have undefeatable sharpening (on the model I worked earlier but I am told that a firmware update fixed that - not sure if it applies to asian sets as asians do not complain as much)

ISF puts a lot of importance on contrast so the Panny shd be heads, but the colour errors will show up as well and they definately do not go as bright as the Sammys this year.

wah I never thought buying a tv need to consider so many technical stuffs. go to the TV shop and ask the salesman, i doubt they can explain in such technical details lah.

whether it is blacker black or brighter reds/yellows/green, i think i will still enjoy my transformers movie as much one way or another smile.gif

for me i go for the cheapest i can buy for the maximum inches i can afford. haha

but thanks anfieldude and appreciation for your explanations

i.e any one owning this model ever tried using a ps3 with this mode(1080p)??in the specs it does say full hd, so does this mean its hd setting can be at 1080p?

*
Hi, any 50U30k owner face the same problem like this?
i also notice this is obvisou, even stand there for 10mins to confirm, i feel not comfortable.
any special reason for this happen? or this is depends on settings?
in some motion, it's look smooth, but some, it seem lagging and the screen seem shaking and not comfortable to eyes...

any 1 can help?

Questions to any Sifus out there

I recently hooked up WIFI USB adaptor and upgraded to Viera Connect on 50VT20k. All went well however i notice that when I browse \ search items in YouTube, the results seems vary compared if I search on my Laptop. I notice that same words searched in YouTube in Laptop produces more results compare to YouTube in Viera Connect

I tried playing with the settings but did not help. Is this some sort of "by design" isues searching Youtube on Viera Connect?

I'm eyeing on the TH-P42U30K. I was wondering why Panasonic reduce the motion resolution of these model to 900 lines instead off 1080 . Won't these affect the motion flow of the plasma picture. Can anyone help him on these?

2) Is there big diff between P42 U30 and UT30?

You have to say which model. For example, Panasonic X and U series are very reflective but the ST and V series are not.

U and UT series got a lot of differences in terms of picture quality? I know UT has 3D and can go online.. but if i dun get the 3D glasses as well as the wifi dongle (because they are sold seperately) , then U30 and UT30 are the same?

I am pretty sure about the price, I went to panasonic shop(different shop), they are selling 1899 for U30 and 2xxx for UT30

actually your statement is true as far as panasonic 50" plasma is concerned. as the price of FHD 50THu30k (2700) vs 3d plasma 50" ST30K (7999) is a big difference between 3d and non 3d.

but for samsung plasma now the price difference is not that big anymore. a 50" FHD 3d model PS51D550 is selling at 3000 vs non 3d model which is series 4 plasma selling at 2500. so only RM500 difference between 3d and non 3d model for samsung.

Those considering to buy TH50U30k can in fact consider to go for samsung PS51D550, like me.

be careful of thye hin in seremban. got one forumer complained in a thread here that he was given display TV set and the shop owner did not want to refund or replace with a new set until police report was lodged by the buyer and panasonic was informed of the unscrupulous act by Thye hin.

do a search here and you will find that thread.

I have been wanting to get the 50U30K but seems that I can't find a place that has stock for it. Thanks for your recommendation, am going to get the PS51D550, as its MUCH MUCH more slimmer than the U30K.

Please could you let us know where to buy at RM3,000? Is this price commonly available?

tan boon ming is another choice.given they have stocks for the models you are looking for.on samsung tv, the do look nicer in regards to aesthetics but as some of the pro's posted in previous pages, the pic looks to vivid for me.

Added on December 17, 2011, 2:31 amdid some semi extensive test runs/tweaking the features/set up/updates of the plasma i bought.quite impressed and after so long watching crt and 29', kinda tiring a bit for my eyes, tho they will get used to it slowly(as when i changed my pc monitor from crt to lcd).

played an anime mkv file, astonishing to see it in full hd, and so large tho i cant get the subs to work.anyway next in the agenda would be gaming and games.

so far so good the th42u smile.gif

hi guys,

I just bought a P42U30K a week ago. still trying to calibrate the TV, but so far so good.

Bought it at RM1700 in JB. Any mates looking to purchase the same set can PM me.

So far, the "dynamic" pic mode gives you colors that a vivid, but not natural, like LCD/LED.

"true cinema" mode gives very natural colors.

Also, the USB movie playback feature is not very good. Only supports FAT32 so my MKV files above 4GB all tak jalan sad.gif
i plug in NTFS ext hdd not media detected.

FYI smile.gif

Not very good news. I tried avi(700MB ~ 1.6GB) and mkv files >4GB on the Samsung and all movies appear on the screen perfectly. Anyway you can always use a media player on the Panasonic to play those mkv files.

Anyway, most important is the picture quality of the plasma, and I believe the Panasonic is a quality unit.

Enjoy~

I can understand, got to spend extra money just to play mkv files. For decent picture quality, can't get a player that's too cheap as well. The better Hi-media players (RM400+/-) would be a minimum. The better ones from the likes of Dune will cost RM700+.

The consolation is media players have extra features that may or may not be useful to you, such as the ability to download torrents etc.

I tried using an ext HDD to watch Avatar mkv file which is 20GB and it's still possible. but the PQ was not that smooth. There's a bit of sluggish and missing pixels. So at the end got myself Hi-Media player. solved the problem. My opinion, it's better to get a 3rd party player to watch those high resolution or quality movies. the one built in are for normal files quality so I don't expect too much from it.

In future, for those who are posting about their purchase, please include price and name of shop.

No one here is interested to know you have bought a plasma TV (yeah big deal blah blah blah) but more about how much and from which shop you got it.

Please be specific, otherwise your post is useless.

I think the settings in the Panasonic TV got one function to clear image retention. Not sure about older models.
If don't have try to switch to sports channel. Football or F1 is a good channel to start. tongue.gif

hmm the IR prob ehh...in due time it may go away...lots of sources lots of ways claiming one over the other in thenet regarding ir.

but i think the middle ground we can find in all of those is the per said go easy on your tele for 1st 100-200 hrs. or may be referred as "break in period" or some thing.

so until then use it accordingly, dont play images that will remian static for long periods and all the other DO's and Dont's.i my self use it sparingly and avoid the non hd content so far.

Can scroll the display do the job? Im not so sure. Somebody said we can play the break in video to wipe out the IR.

To all Panasonic Fan, do you all mind to share your TV calibration here? Maybe it can give me and others the idea how to get a best calibration. I know there is discussion about it, but i'm not pro enough to do it by myself.

hmm as a plasma user i would say plasma tongue.gif .

plasma may be a bit reflective in ambient light condition, but then again this depends on how each person feels when viewing some thing and how comfortable/discomfort our eyes be with them.

but anyway main reason ive chose the plasma instead of lcd/led is the viewing angle.turns me off when the what im watching changes with viewing angle(ala laptop screen or pc lcd/led monitor). but anyway its up to you to feel comfortable with wch one.price wise not much to choose from.

I'm considering getting the L42E3K or L42E30K for viewing in my room as well as using it as a secondary PC gaming monitor. Anyone know what's the response time for these 2 models? Is input lag noticeable, espeically on fighting games where 1-frame link is concerned?

it is 50hz panel vs 100hz panel.

overall, L42E30 colour quality is superb.

Sorry for not making my question clear. Actually, what I'm interested to know is the response time in ms, not the refresh rate in Hz. Most LCD monitors have a response time between 2ms to 5ms but LED/LCD TV usually have response time that are much higher due to the size. Anyone with a clear idea on what the response time for L42E30K is?

i think you still can find the 42u's but it will be bloody hard.just ask icehart, he searched quite a while for his 50" u series and found one.so try lots of shops, try the big names to the small shops, since thats what i did back then. and luck being on my side i found one.but at the same time dont over pay. should be with a range of prices what most ppl were selling.

Hi
I've just got myself a TH-P42U30K from Sen-Q (JB - Jusco Bukit Indah) for RM1499.

I have some trouble with saving the Picture settings - after changing the Contrast, Brightness, Color settings, the TV will return to default settings the next time I it switch on. However, Sound settings are stored/remembered correctly. I always double check the Picture settings by returning to Menu while the TV is still on. The settings are fine until I power it off (ie unplug the power).

Anyone has any idea what I may haved missed?

Thank you

Have you check your TV whether got any USB Playback function to play movies or just photo viewer?
If your TV can only watch or see photos then I am afraid you need to fork out more to buy a proper HD Player.
The Philips HMP-3000 retail for RM 210 is quite good.

Just bought TH-P42U30K. I want to ask anyone knows how to check how many hours the screen has been used? I want to check just in case i got a display unit or not.

The salesman told me that the stock shud arrive on monday then suddenly i got a call informing me got 1 last stock they found in the store. I went over and saw that the box is been unseal and they told me check if screen got any damange or not. the tape around the screen looks legit. But i still want to make sure... and i did go see if the display unit is still there and it is... but for my peace of mind... i still want to make sure.

thanks

I wouldnt advise to use wifi, LAN works better, and if you dont have a lan point nearby, get a homeplug, it works fine for me.

I bought it Rm1750. I know its more expensive but it was the only unit i could find in whole town... panashop quote me Rm1650 but no stock till further notice. The shop i bought from is not panashop so i cant enjoy 3yr warranty, 2yr instead.

In the end i manage to get the shop to throw in a free 3m LG highspeed hdmi cable for me...

Homeplug == ethernet over power line

Enable you to connect IP devices over your house power lines without laying UTP cable.

HI There,
Not sure if the problem seen on others, I have 50VT20K Plasma and recently upgraded it to Viera Connect. Ever since i notice that TV automatically powers on when switch power off from my remote control.

I thought i was one time, but now the problem seems to be frequent. Most recently, i switch off TV and went out (almost 6 hours or so), when i came back, notice TV power was on (notice top left indicator that HDMI1 connection message).

Lucky for me, there we no burn in problem (after I did snow-wash) and wanted to ask if anyone out there notice similar behaviour? as of now, I have to switch off power supply to the TV to avoid this occur again.

I called Panasonic for assitance and schedule this Sat to have a look. somehow I notice the technician find hard to believe on my complain.

Will revert what Panasonic Technician found.

all right i found out what is white wash.

tho i have a question.we all have some sort of knowledge on IR/burn ins.but on what scale or what signs on the tv is considered as IR/burn ins??

take my set for example, when i test it out with the coloured full screen images from the break in images i dont notice anything, any mark, shape, word, ghosting images etc.same goes if its in static.now if turn my ps3 on, play a game also i notice nothing.and ive done all this with variable contrast/brightness settings, stood very close to the telly and far too, and still nothing.

but when i switch to the next hdmi channel(hdmi2), if you stood really close i do notice a faint "ghosting like" images of the tvs on screen menu's etc(menu, volume bar).so does this constitute as IR/burn ins?? hmm.gif

HI Guys,
Panasonic guy came by and suspect there was a function within Viera Link (power mode on). I was not able reproduce the problem to him but after switching Viera Link Power state on (or something like that), TV did not power up automatically.

We tested switching on TV multiple times and did not see TV switch up power automatically. Will monitor from my end if indeed this is the workaround. In addition to that, he mentioned HDMI cables do play a role as they need to be same, atleast HDMI 1.3b and above. for example, if i have HDMI 1.4, i need to ensure all my HDMI devices are plugged with ver 1.4

PS: sorry as I mixed up White wash and Show wash smile.gif

News for Panasonic 2012 Plasma TV lineup.

QUOTE
Six new series are launching, only one of them lacks 3D.

Panasonic is launching a total of 17 new TVs this year, with sizes and features ranging from the entry-level to the high end.  Every single one of them packs a 1080p resolution, and all but one - the U50 - offers 3D capabilities.

At the top of the six different lines is the VT50.  You'll be able to pick up Panasonic's flagship in 55" and 65" sizes and you'll find everything you've come to expect from a high end television.  You get 3D capabilities, the Infinite Black Ultra Panel for dark blacks, built in Wi-Fi, Viera Connect for your internet apps and 2D to 3D conversion.

The VT50 also packs CALMAN calibration software and an ISFcc calibration mode so you - or someone who knows what they're doing - can get your set looking just right.  It also gives you 8-Train speakers with 3D Real Sound for more immersive audio.  Though if you're buying a top of the line TV you should really shell out for some speakers.

The VT50 and the rest of Panasonic's new plasma sets will be available this year though a specific launch date and price have not yet been set.

I have tested with both HD and SD signals on both TVs.
I took a normal HK Drama (650MB) and a Planet Earth (2.7GB) to be played on both of the TV own built in Media Players

The comparison that i notice is as of below:

Panasonic
HK Drama: Playback started successfully. The picture was pretty smooth and very less boxy edges noticed even at the side curved lines. Picture and color is much softer compared to Samsung (based on Dynamic setting).

Planet Earth: Playback started successfully. The picture was very smooth. Color is rich and pictures are sharp. There was some juddering of the playback at the start but after i skip that section, the movie continued playing normally.

Price: RM2,850

Samsung:
HK Drama: Playback started successfully. The picture was pretty smooth as well but more boxy edges was seen throughout the picture. Picture and color were much brighter compared to Panasonic (based on Dynamic setting)

Planet Earth: Playback didnt started successfully so i could not provide comment on this. The message says the codec is not supported. Firmware issue i guess.

Price: RM2,950

What is your decision? Only RM100 different for 3d feature..actually I already bought Panasonic 50U30K at same price. Last December, the different between Samsung D550 is around 400-500.

Hi,
I finally decided on Panasonic.
The PQ is much better than Samsung although Samsung one is 3D plus it comes with 2 extra glasses for FREE.
But ultimately, when it comes to comparison, cant really match Panasonic in this two fight out le.

3d may the thing now but still the content isnt as many as hd, even hd needed time to garner such resources.besides not every ones eyes are adapted to 3d, and personally for me i cant adapt to 3d.i still see the same picture, not like seeing some thing in person.

the eyes+brain i reckon is still way powerful and can instantly differentiate what you see is there in the flesh or its just an image in the tv.

It is a general consensus that Panasonic has better blacks whilst the Samsung has better colours. Picture wise "much better" is a misleading term. As for picture settings, "Dynamic" on the Samsung will yield an unnatural quality. Usually "Movie" is the preferred setting.

Enjoy your new Panasonic TV. You won't go wrong with both Panasonic or Samsung. Both are the top two sellers in the plasma category.

Guys, is there a way to calibrate all the channels at once? Im using P42U30K. I placed the test chart from AVSHD709 to my pendrive and i adjusted the brightness and contrast.. then when i switch to other channel (hdmi1, hdmi2) i notice that those channel remain by default.

I know i can memorise the setting and adjust accordingly but is there a simpler way of making all channels the same?

I also think it is better have different setting for each connection. So 1 connection is for movies, 1 connection for astro and another for anything else.

Doesn't make sense. The input source are usually different e.g. blu-ray player, Astro, PS3 etc. Each source need to be calibrated differently because they produce different PQ/color.

If you insist them to be similar, you can always "copy" the settings from one input source to the others. I know the V20 has the "copy" feature.

Edited: So, since you used the pendrive via USB, you have just calibrated the screen for the built-in media player. If you put that pendrive via your blu-ray player, you have calibrated the TV for your blu-ray input. I hope that make sense.

Yeah the UT50 series look interesting bro, but they'll be expensive right? Like in the range of 2-3.5k?

Some guys are getting the P42U30K's for 1.5k. What a bummer.

I tried looking for it here and there the last few months and after getting frustrated I just got a Full HD Philips for 1k. I'm not really enjoying it though. The HD quality is good, except for the ghosting images when I'm watching football. But the SD quality is pure crap.

well even last years the 42u was hard to find.and if youre waiting till may/june might as well go for ut series since panny has already released new models.the ut series will have lower price now compared to back then.by low i dont mean dirt cheap but it will defo the worth the wait.

i bought my 42u last year after searching 2 weeks(tho i did do reaserche months before and decided for that model for quite some time) and got lucky one shop still had them.

I ve checked with a promoter a while ago, she said 1.7k is holiday promote price. Not sure if it's true.

promoter mmg always like that one haha.ive been tracking that model since middle of 2011 and that tv price didnt hit 1.9k.even our fellow lyn forumers were selling around 1.8-1.7 range dating from middle of 2011. smile.gif

dont get fooled peeps.unless its higher then 42" and/or UT series, a U series cant reach 2k.

So long as the warranty is valid, you claim for recurrences. If it happens again not long after rectification, you could consider demanding for a new unit. It's a hassle but what to do?

Hi guys,

Wondering if someone here can help me out. Does anyone here have TV model TH-42PV80HM (yeah, kinda an old school model, doesn't even have Full HD) and knows which code to use for Astro's b.yond PVR remote control?

I tried all the Panasonic specific codes in Astro's manual and while I can get a few to work with the on/off button, none of them seems to work with the volume buttons (which is the important one to avoid "carrying" two remotes).

Thanks.

Appreciate if anyone can help. I can't decide to get a Panasonic P50U30K or a Samsung PS51D490. Both around similar pricing plus minus. PS51D490 has 3D advantage but is only HD ready. Since I am an Astro Beyond subscriber, am I correct to say P50U30K has better pic quality for the HD channels since it is full HD?
