Bought Panasonic TH-L42U30K from Carrefour Kepong @ 1599RM.
will be activating IPTV from Unifi tonight.

Anyone can help me in knowing how to find usage hours for LCD or is it same as that of PLASMA?

Thanks,
Avinash

Hey bro, is there more sets available?

EDIT: Oops, just realised the one that I'm looking for is the VIERA TH-P42U30K.

If you guys find any good deals on Panasonic TV's, post it here ya. Thanks! tongue.gif

Do y'all think I'll still be able to find a P42U30K sometime in May/June?

Why don't wait for U50 or even better UT50 since it is May/June?
*
Yeah the UT50 series look interesting bro, but they'll be expensive right? Like in the range of 2-3.5k?

Some guys are getting the P42U30K's for 1.5k. What a bummer.

I tried looking for it here and there the last few months and after getting frustrated I just got a Full HD Philips for 1k. I'm not really enjoying it though. The HD quality is good, except for the ghosting images when I'm watching football. But the SD quality is pure crap.

well even last years the 42u was hard to find.and if youre waiting till may/june might as well go for ut series since panny has already released new models.the ut series will have lower price now compared to back then.by low i dont mean dirt cheap but it will defo the worth the wait.

i bought my 42u last year after searching 2 weeks(tho i did do reaserche months before and decided for that model for quite some time) and got lucky one shop still had them.

Wow, you're one lucky guy bro. biggrin.gif Did you buy the TV from a Panashop?

Btw, is this the one you're talking about? The P42UT30K?

Hey guys, I'm pretty amateur when it comes to AV stuff but I'm trying to learn a thing or two.

And I kinda have a thing for Plasma TVs now.

I understand you have to calibrate a Plasma TV to get the best out of it right?

And I understand you can either do it yourself or get a pro to do it for you.

After reading through this thread, I found some interesting links posted up by you guys and checked them out.

To all of you who own a Plasma, what do you guys actually do in terms of calibrating your TV set?

Do you,

1. Firstly start off with playing a slide show filled with pictures of different colours for a period of time?

2. And secondly set your picture settings as per recommended by professionals?

Or is it vice versa?

Or is there another way to do it?

Would appreciate your replies and comments. Thanks. smile.gif

P.S. The links were taken from this thread, thank you to those who posted them up. Appreciate it!

You are right about the order.

From what I learned in this thread and others:

- turn down various the settings (brightness, contrast, color saturations) for the first few hundred hours or so
- exercise every individual pixels of the entire plasma screen. This means full screen and no black bars. You can use the slide show to accelerate the process. The idea is that every pixel across the screen is used evenly as much as possible.
- once this is done, the characteristics of your plasma screen should not change drastically, theoretically speaking. This is when you perform calibration and achieve settings that is consistent for some time.
- do note that each plasma screen has it's own characteristics and optimal settings may differ even though they are the same brand and model. There are various settings available in the internet for the models. You can try them out and see if you like them.

My plasma was calibrated by LYN forumer anfieldude. No regrets.

Thanks for elaborating on the calibration process bro. smile.gif

I think when I have the funds to get a Plasma of my own, I'd probably ask a pro to calibrate it for me. Find it a little too complicated to do it on my own. rclxub.gif

I've looked at HN Ikano, Jusco MV and 1U, and I can't seem to find a P42ST50K. The P50ST50K is only 3399 at Jusco but it's too big for my room. If anyone comes across the P42ST50K anywhere around KL for a good price, post here will ya?

Jusco RM3399 but only until this Sunday.
TBM sells it for RM3350.
HN's price is RM3499.

Paid for my 42ST50 at TBM today. Getting it tomorrow morning. biggrin.gif

not bad la.. i wonder if price will still go down before ST60 rolls out in 2-3 months' time
*
I'm not sure about that bro. But most stores don't stock them anymore, and they don't take orders too. Called up 2 Panashop dealers near my place and they only had the XT. HN has none, Jusco has none. The only ones you can see in stores are 50 inch ones.
