This is what I found:
http://hd.engadget.com/2010/01/11/panasoni...r-black-levels/

If I'm not mistaken, Panasonic Plasma is due for replacement in Q2 this year.

Hope there will be good improvement over 2009 models.

I'm still using PV80h, and still kick butt.

Looks like Malaysian models are not affected.

Read already the post below by anfieldude @ Jan 22 2010, 09:49 AM)

The S10 model that is for Asian market is a different panel. Worldwide S10 was a Full HD NeoPDP panel. It was only in limited production thus after the initial production run, production ceased and moved to NeoPDP.

The X10 that is sold here, is for worldwide market. The C10 is the same panel as the X10. U do realise that the X is also almost out of stock, except with the big chain stores. This is due the stocking agreement they have with Panny Malaysia. The 720p panels were the most manufactured as it was cheap. Also the AR was pretty dismal. The G10 locally uses the same panel as the G10 worldwide minus the THX, so firmware controlled the region release.

Thanks

jitbeng,

After actually writing this, more info on the rising blacks has been uncovered. The portion that causes rising blacks in the Panny sets will also effect sets in Asia and the world over.

anfieldude,

Actually it was this post below by you in the "Everything About Plasma, LCD & LED's LCD TV V5.00 How flat can it be? (Post No.436) that I wanted to show regarding the raising black level. My apology.

anfieldude@Jan 23 2010, 07:11 AM:-
I have read and talked to some calibrators in the US that the US G series (THX) has a problem where the black levels are increasing with time. It is a firmware bug and it is not clear if it being addressed correctly. The voltage adjustment mechanism is not correct and as such the black levels increase with time. However, I cannot confirm if the same issue applies for our sets as our firmware is different.

Hopefully our sets will not be affected. Only time will tell. Anyway I read that even if affected it will hardly be noticeable under normal viewing conditions.

Interesting read regarding this at:-

Thanks

S10 is 2009 model. So naturally stop production in order to produce 2010 model.

In the US S1(2009) is being replaced by S2(2010) already sometime in January 2010. But S1 is still selling there & the irony is that the 2010 model is selling cheaper than the 2009 model. So hopefully will happen here also.

Check here (US website):- http://panasonic.com/

Here S10 almost sold out or sold out. And don't know what the 2010 model will be named - S12 maybe?

I read somewhere the 2010 model will definitely come out by end of this month.

Thanks

I believe Panasonic has a roadshow to unveil their 2010 models at Sunway Pyramid tomorrow. I was all set on getting the 50" G20 but in view of the Black Level issues, I'm not so sure anymore. I might be going the Sammy way..

no one is really sure about the new series' potential deteriorated black level problem unless the TVs are subjected to long term test

below is what panasonic said about their new 2010 series, no fix but modified from previous model
QUOTE
Various elements and material characteristics of all electronic displays change with use over time. In order to achieve the optimal picture performance throughout the life of the set, Panasonic Viera plasma HDTVs incorporate an automatic control which adjusts an internal driving voltage at predetermined intervals of operational hours.

As a result of this automatic voltage adjustment, background brightness will increase from its initial value. After several years of typical use, the internal material characteristics will stabilize and no additional automatic voltage adjustments are required. The Black Level at this stabilized point will yield excellent picture performance.

The newest Viera plasma HDTVs incorporate an improved automatic control which applies the voltage adjustments in smaller increments. This results in a more gradual change in the Black Level over time.

Yea. I saw the ad in The Star papers.

Asia's first ever 3d roadshow in Sunway Pyramid. (25-28 March 2010)

I think they are launching the new Viera 2010 models.
