Highly efficient bass trap but commands quite a space and not eye-candy enough :

Not as expensive for some other tube traps that are available. Probably less than RM1.5K for 2 pcs

Actually, tube traps come in many sizes.
You just have to look for the right one for your room AFTER you identified the root cause of the acoustic problems.

Sad to say that DIY tube traps are very difficult to get locally.
You can source from oversea but then, the price will be high.

When was the ad?
Please check with the owner if the item is still available for sale.
I feel that RELs are more suited to music.

The reason I asked for the date is because The Star ads are usually being posted a few days later after the seller wrote to the publisher.
Possible that it is already sold.

Errr.. No idea what it sounds like when it comes to movie.
Do drop by CMY to find out.
Or you can contact the seller and check it out.

Found a post on AVS about the Paradigm Sub 25's output:

QUOTE
The SPL figures below are from anechoic measurements. For in-room response add 3 dB per nearby boundary, so if the sub is in a corner add 9 dB to all the numbers (that's where the data sheet's 125 dB of clean in-room bass comes from).

The Sub 25 puts out 9 Hz cleanly up to around 89 dB - after that it's limited by the DSP. We could make it go louder but it won't be clean. This is still better than not having 9 Hz response at all, and it's not like some manufacturers who say that if you input 8 Hz you'll get 120 dB out when what they're not saying is that it's loaded with distortion and/or containing no fundamental tone to speak of. From 17 Hz and up Sub 25 output is linear up to 108 dB. Beyond that the DSP rolls off the deepest bass off and the remainder goes up to 116 dB cleanly.

laugh.gif You think I am selling Klipsch Palladium subwoofer

For abt half the money, he can build a complete 7.8 setup. This means he is getting 8x PB13-Ultra. That's earthshaking SPL output there whistling.gif The rest for his phone money wink.gif .

Went there. They do not stock Sub 25 at the moment.

Piano black finish retails at RM23K. The normal finishing is RM21K.

believe I that Asia Sound able give to 'generous' discount if you buy 2 units. My understanding to, a single not unit has reached here. So, other words in that buy if you will be the FIRST to own Malaysia here thumbup.gif

If compare you Sub25 to, PB13-Ultra will lose definitely out to it music on

Hi guys and gals,
I am looking for a sub and had the oppurtunity to audition the Velo Impact 12 and CHT-10Q recently.
My HT consists of
Source a;PS3 Slim
Display : Pana 50" plasma HD ready
AVR : Onktyo 607
Front Infinity Primus 250,
Centre Infinity C25
Surround Infinity Minuette
Rear surround : Monitor Audio Studio 20.
My listening area is 14 ft x 21 ft x 8 ft. The ceiling is actually has twi heights. The front half is about 10 whilst the rear half is about 8 ft high
Opens on the front right half, to the dining area. The right rear half is a solid wall.
This opening has a 2 piece glass partition with a 3 ft gap for walking through.

Has any one had the chance to listen to an Infinity sub PS212?
It is a 12" 400watts RMS box, ported.
Power wise , it is more than the two Velo's and the freq response rivals even the CHT12.
Price wise is more or less equals the Impact 12
Any suggestions where one can audition this in KL/PJ area?
My budget is RM2500/-
I know power does not equal quality but my medium sized hall needs some serious oomph to bring out the lows.
Thanks a bunch !

Here's a review of 3 traditional subs and 3 modern (compact) subs by the renown Brent Butterworth in S&V Nov 2009.

However, I could not find this article on S&V web anymore. Is there a possibility that it was being pulled out of S&V website? My guess is that one of the heavy advertisers might have give an earful or whatever to S&V. If that's true, then it is sad (but, it's a reality of life) that S&V is going down the What Hi-Fi crap road.

Below are large files, so might take time to load.

Interesting how he classifies traditional = big and modern = small. It is not a surprise that all the traditionals got the "S&V Certified and Recommended" chop.

Hi,

I wrote a rvw (peasants one la) sumtime back on multiple sub usage ..

Here's de excerpt :

I was priviliged to check a really awesome HT here in Sg..

1. Room is a typical 4m by 2.5m hdb .. fully treated wif auralex sound absorbin foam n other foams froom bass traps to corner traps to ceilin foam n side wall, front wall, side windows n even de door to de room all has sum form of foam treatment .. windows were pasted up n floor length curtains were in use.. in all a fully dead n lite controlled room..

2. Marantz dlp 1080p proj - I dont know de model but it cost S$14k

4. Stewart grey screen -84inch

5. Denon pre/pro A1 plus pwr amps

6. Pioneer 989 dvdp

7. Pioneer lx51bdp

8. Miller n Kreistel 7.0 ( I didnt catch de models but de fronts were biggish bkshlves n rears/surr were combo strgt firin n bipole MKs)

9. SvS pb ultra 13 X 2

10. SvS pc + or ultra X 2 ( I didnt get de model but it was cylinders)

11. SvS pb 12+/2 X 2

12. M & K own thx sub..
Read/Pics from tis link : M&K SPKRS

13. Ancillaries oso included branded cbls from hdmi to spkr cbls.. oso in use is a parametric eq ( it was a behringers but now its sumtin else.. model - elemental design..)

Now de experience :

Demoes were :

1. Spiderman 3 - sandman scene; fight wif green goblin scene; final fight scene wif sandman n green goblin
2. Kung fu panda - Po first learns he is de dragon warrior ; tai lungs escape ; final fight scene between Po n Tai lung
3. Animatrix - de whole flick
4. Walk Hard - even music had sum really decent bass
5. Happy Feet ( his is a R A japan version which has dolby true hd, dunno if it really makes a diff as compared to de US versions of dd5.1 - accordin to de owner, not much.. cos he had both..)- Leopard seal scene; storm scene ; killer whale scene n final scene where de helos fly over to mumbles tribe..
6. Shoot em up - Paul Giammatti gettin a call from his wife scene - when de car does a U turn - de bass is fantastic..
7. Unbreakable - start scene where Willis was flirtin wif de sports editor gal, train passes wif solid whoooff
Music bds - Celine Dion s las vegas performance is oso fantastic sonically as well as amazin pics n sum ordinary red bk cds tat were surprisingly very surround like feel for only a 2.1 source but bear in mind its gud for only de sweet spot n if u move a ft off dat spot imagin is lost..
There were sum more demo films but offhand tis is wat I remember..

Opinions

At de end of de 2hr session my ears were ringin as it was reference lvls tat were used n detail is amazing.. bass surprisingly is not overpowerin - in fact I didnt know he had 7 subs until de end of de session - I did know he had multiple subs but no idea it was 7..

If I were to dare offer an opinion is tat de MK's were a tad bright for my likin but owner did say tat for clear detailed sound , brightness is a neccesity .. tat is wat de director intended u to here..

Conclusion

If u had S$100k, tis is wat u should get plus lots n lots of diy n trial n error.. Images n sonics were top notch n really there isnt anythin more u can ask for..

Now to go back to my own one would be hard..

Sighss

Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
Complete a powerful home theater system with the deep, driving bass of the Klipsch KSW-10 powered subwoofer--perfect for combing with high-performance Klipsch Synergy Series surround sound configurations. It couples a 10-inch driver to the floor for optimal performance. This subwoofer's high-output, down-firing design "grips" the air and fills a room with low frequency energy that's heard and felt with undetectable distortion. The built-in discrete MOSFET amplifier and 10-inch fiber-composite woofer are as efficient as they are reliable. It provides 55 watts of FTC-rated continuous power, and it has a dynamic power rating of 275 watts. (Dynamic power indicates the actual power this amplifier will deliver to the woofer under normal operating conditions.)

The woofer is composed of a Santoprene rubber surround with a fiber composite cone which enables Klipsch subwoofers to deliver on their promise of extended bass response and maximum reliability. This subwoofer accepts LFE, line-level, and speaker level inputs, making it easy to add to the Quintet Microsystem, the Synergy System 6, or any other Klipsch inspired arrangement. The KSW-10's jet ash veneer vinyl finish creates a deceivingly subtle exterior for its earthshaking sound capabilities.

Boss, read posting no #47 :

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1264488/+40

jazzman, for the price of the KSW-10, nothing much to complain. Bass is quite good but ran out of steam at about 40Hz. It is not really loud but still does the job well. A tad boomy

Thankfully loudness is something you can control using the volume knob. But if you can't play loud, then also no point getting a very powerful sub.

anyone here tested the velodyne impact 10? how's it?
i notice there are some subwoofers which their drivers are not floor-firing type aka front firing. is there are reason for that? any advantage or disadvantage?

Finished watching District 9. Near ending, the LFE is quite powerful. Still, the MJ's This Is It preview has the best AQ. 'Jam' is shaking my whole room at -18dB. Massive output!

sure.. i might sell it if my room doesnt need it.. my ht wont be ready so soon.. might arrange with ronn and anfieldude to test it with his submersive if they r interested in the test.

for now all i can say is

1)Built quality
Average only- very light device so when u hold it u dont feel its solid. Doesnt looks like a high tech device at all from outside.
So if u wanna impress your friends with the look then u better look at other brands

2)Warranty
Didnt check with them but is quite sure u have to send it back at your own cost as we rarely see any co like svs that covers the shipping for faulty product. The shipping cost using ups from Finland to my door is 40euro

From the review and shootout, they say it is a device u should only consider if u r sure u wont be having more than 1 sub. If u buy two subs n 2 antimode then it is better to get svs since the price diff wont be much. I am sure svs has much better built and their warranty is always 2nd to none.

slim chance unless some1 from north buys as-eq1... anyway this guy had a shootout and the result was antimode is more effective cutting down ringing... however the reviewer stated clearly he likes the sound of as-eq1 more than antimode http://www.avforums.com/forums/subwoofers-...1053227-eq.html

For bass freaks...

Not sure if it has been mentioned, Australia has some pretty good scenes with very good LFE (Buffalo scene comes to mind, Japanese plane attack among others). Can't say much for the movie, wife enjoyed it though.

It is new and I was told SW 150 no more being produced, its obsolete. This must be clearing stock. I think replace by Diamond 10 series.

Yes that is avalid point, I have also experience the same but if I dont get any Sub now this means I will have to wait. I am not sure how long i will need to wait more for a better Sub. Also not to forget the clock is ticking...who knows what will happen tomorrow or the very near future...

I do hope that for me at least that the HT upgrades do not end because if I can upgrade in future that would mean got money coming in and the HT interest is still there biggrin.gif

my question is:

1) how to setup? there is no manual come with the box.

wah...clever use of the Ikea step stool thumbup.gif

I think your TV a bit too high placement , with speakers way below the TV, the sound staging will like hearing those people talking squatting from below the picture....

Your center speaker can match with the L/R???

My board's hdmi had no signal and they send me a new one. Fixed it myself as per instructions. Not too difficult. Only needed to remember which cable go to which slot. Toughest was the heat sink. This was because I had to re-use the heat sink from the faulty board. Took me a while to figure out how to take the heat sink out.

I had no problems receiving the board. smile.gif

I picked up my Velo Impact 12 last tuesday did not have much time to test it out yet but need to clarify something with other Velo users, do you guys get the speaker "Thump" sound when you turn the unit on? Is this normal?

Ok clarified by CT Seong, this is normal thumbup.gif

for my case, the slight thump will there if the sub is still in operating mode (green status led), and if the sub is left idle for a while it will go into standby mode (red led) and no thump will be heard when switch off.

They do not to ship overseas and u got to contact them for early order. They state very clearly their reasons on why they do not want to support overseas order, so I'm not sure its such a good idea to get it. Also this is 1st gen product, not sure of the fall out, but the price is pretty good.

Maybe someone here can become an unnofficial dealer....hint hint.... smile.gif

If the dealer could also offer warranty, then I think it is pretty good. Also once the price goes up back to USD1400, its not as great compared to maybe the upcoming SB16? Maybe?

Seriously, after looking at the stuff, I think we are pretty lucky to have a local SVS dealer. Prices are pretty good compared to the risks. Now if we could only get some guy to look at Epik and some others.

Ha-ha, you make it sound as if SVS is monopolizing the market. Don't you realize there is so much competition out there? Aside from Epik there are so many other sub brands. As it is the existing competition is what enables us to get good value subs. If we only had to rely on the mainstream commercial brands we'd have to pay more.

I think that is the rate for one time customers. If the vendor has volume definitely it will be negotiated much lower.

I would see PB13U still wins hands down over single empire.
Dual Empire (USD1499) might give a fight to a PB13U in term of performance, but not the price that we can have it here from taukeh htkaki.

It's stated clearly in their FAQ that they are not accepting any international order currently.

Did they promise your buddy in Brunei anything?

Bro, I'm not chaging. I see ported SVS would still win this single Empire.
Dual empire would cost a bomb with its freight charges as it's very heavy.
It's just that the intro price of USD799 is very tempting.
Someone else is considering as well.

I'm wondering how would these dual opposing drivers of Empire look like?
How would be the layout and the placement of the sub?
Would the driver be one active and one passive, with so called 'force cancelling configuration'?

My concern: lost or damaged...

This single Empire would give a good fight to Velo subs since it's sealed type.
300w RMS per 15" driver seems a bit low.
It would give very good mid bass and lose out on the low freq extension that SVS subs have.

I just bought a new SVS PC-12NSD and it is GREAT!!!
I have it placed in the front left corner of my hall, next to the left main speaker.
I am contemplating using my old Infinity RS10 sub in the other corner using the second sub preout of my avr. The reason being it's too old and frayed physically at the top corner edges to be sold and storing it seems such a waste, as it's still running well.
Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
If i do decide to use it, any advise on how to set it up to integrate it with my SVS.

Added on February 8, 2010, 2:21 pmThe review of the Epik Empire:-

QUOTE
Here's a review from AVS:

Hello! I have lurked here for years and wanted to start out by saying thanks to everybody who posts here. I noticed that yesterday someone mentioned their first impressions of the Empire compared to their sub, and I had the opposite thoughts entirely. So, I really wanted to share my experiences for those of you thinking about getting one.

I’m not a pro or expert on measuring or reviews, but have read a lot of forums and reviews before and have had a lot of subs to compare to each other. My room is about 4000 cubic feet. I’ve owned some smaller commercial subwoofers in the past from Polk and Velodyne. Each step up brought me closer to better bass. I upgraded to a Rythmik Audio 15 not too long ago and while I liked it, it still did not have enough output for me.

I currently own a pair of MFW-15’s. I got them used for a good price since so many people have had problems with them. I took a chance on them and while they are the best subs I’ve had, I’ve never really been 100% happy with them. They are co-located in one spot for maximum output and the best performance in my room.

When I saw the new Empire’s for sale, I just ordered them on gut instinct. They arrived on a pallet. The packaging is fantastic. They are double boxed and shipped in custom cut foam. Even the shipping boxes looked nice when they arrived. No owners manual yet, but Chad said he is working on this. Even so, he walked me through my basic questions on the phone.

I can definitely say that the Empire’s are totally amazing subwoofers and are the best I’ve had. They are easily outperforming my AV123 MFW-15’s by a noticeable margin. They are louder, cleaner, punchier and more musical. Everything about their performance is an improvement from what I am used to. The midbass output is INCREDIBLE, just like Epik promised.

Things that used to bother me about my MFW-15’s are no longer an issue. I could bottom out my MFW-15’s if I pushed them hard enough. No matter how hard I push the Empire’s, they just stay clean. When a movie plays now I just sit back and relax no matter how crazy the soundtrack gets.

My MFW-15’s were also somewhat difficult to dial-in and blend with my main speakers. I struggled with it for a long time. The Empire’s just dropped in with no fuss. The blend is seamless.

I took out my dual MFW-15’s to hook up the Empire’s in my room, so I don’t know what they all would have sounded like together.

On music, the Empire’s sound quality is also a big upgrade. I can absolutely crank these things on music too. I guess that makes sense since the pair of them have four 15 inch drivers between them! I look at the drivers and it is like they are barely moving on music even at wicked volume levels. It just sounds effortless. Clean jazz recordings like Diana Krall sound SOOOO good through the Empires. They only play what is on the recording and the upright bass sounds like it is in the room.

Movies are amazing too with these Empires. The depth charge scene from U-571 felt like it was shaking my room to pieces. The added midbass slam is just as good as the low bass. Iron Man, Finding Nemo, The Incredible Hulk, Fight of the Phoenix are being taken to a new level through these new subs. Anything with that crazy low bass is finding its way into my bluray player. I’m hearing things I never heard before. The sound also seems to keep getting better the more that I play them. They are breaking in NICELY!!!

I hear a definite change in the sound of the sealed Empires versus the ported MFW-15’s. Everything sounds tighter on the low end and there is less overhang. It is very crisp and I love the sound!!!

The output in every register has also increased noticeably versus my old subs. With some rough measurements I am getting at least 3 dB more on the low end around 20 Hz. When I start using REALLY low test tones below 15 Hz, the MFW-15’s don’t like it. The ports and drivers go crazy and I have to back off. The Empire’s sealed design doesn’t mind the low test tones at all. I can’t really hear anything from the subs with test tones below 20 Hz, but I can feel it and the walls and everything in my room starts rattling. Even at 10 Hz there is something going on down low.

As I go up in frequency, the Empire’s start getting WAY louder than the MFW-15’s. And when you start getting above 40 Hz it gets insane. At 80 Hz, ONE Empire is easily louder than BOTH of the MFW-15’s playing together. It measured about 4 dB louder and I basically couldn’t take it anymore it was so loud. With both subwoofers hooked up the max output is totally unreal. Movies that have heavy artillery or explosions now have chest slam thanks to the added output.

It is also cool that when you set your hand on an Empire playing really loud, you can’t feel much of anything. The opposite firing drivers are really effective. It definitely has an effect on the sound. All my previous subwoofers shook, so I couldn’t use them as end tables.

I probably sound like a broken record, but the clarity and sound of the system is just different now. The dynamics are also transformed. Even at the same volume level as my MFW-15’s, my Empire’s just sound more alive. When I have to occasionally listen at lower levels, this is a nice little bonus.

The Empire is definitely heavier than I expected. I liked that the MFW-15’s were a little lighter and easier to move around. I left off the spikes and could push them around on my carpet. I used a dolly to roll the Empire’s around and that ended up working out just fine though.

The Empire’s don’t have the same finish quality as the MFW-15’s either. My MFW-15’s are beautiful Cherry veneer. But, you can’t hear the veneer, so I don’t mind. The finish of the Empire’s is better than I expected though. The black finish is smooth and the grills on the sides make it look really nice. The round corners also make it look smaller than it is.

I just wanted to tell everybody not to question getting one of these beauties. Epik has a winner here. I am incredibly impressed with the performance and the craftsmanship. Now I get why people on the forums say that you have to hear it to believe it. It’s like a tank, and sounds amazing. I don’t think that they are charging enough for these subwoofers. I would have paid a lot more for them if I knew it was this good.

I have never been so happy with an audio component purchase. I took a chance on Epik and I am glad that I did! Their service has been amazing too. Chad really knows how to design a subwoofer and answered all my questions.

I will post more about them as I play with them more. I will try to get some pictures up shortly too. A friend of mine agreed to bring over his Hsu ULS-15 to compare with the Empire sometime, so if he brings it over, I can’t wait to hear that too.

Sorry that this is so long! I just wanted to share.

P.S. At Chad’s (Epik’s owner) request, I bought Terminator Salvation and watched the “gas station scene”. The bass and especially the midbass coming from the Empire during this scene is nothing short of unreal. It was downright scary. Along with all of the explosions, the robot makes this “noise” as it moves around which the Empire’s just crank out. It sounded like my room was being torn apart. Never heard anything quite like that before!!

You may try to use it but I guess that it will struggle big time to keep up with the SVS. You need to tone it down (lower vol than the SVS) and play around with the phase knob. Have to experiment with the placement and setting on the RS10.

Added on February 8, 2010, 10:45 pmBtw, SVS PB12-Plus was awarded the 2009 Editors' Choice Award

Now, it can join the MTS-01 and PB13-Ultra in the same rank; Editors' Choice Award.

2009 Consumer Excellence Award Winners

Speakers > Subwoofers

Company: Axiom Audio
Product: EP800
MSRP: $2,350
www.axiomaudio.com

According to Axiom, the EP800 plays louder than most live performances reaching an amazing 125 dB Sound Pressure Level! After personally hearing this sub at their facility almost 2 years ago, we have little doubt about these claims.  The Intelligent DSP is said to virtually eliminate distortion. Instead, it tightly controls the signals to the 800-watt power amplifier and two massive 12-inch aluminum drivers  with dual 3-inch voice coils to provide you with peak performance making the EP800 virtually unbreakable!  With a 13Hz extension, you won't miss any LFE effects.  Available in upright configuration or a convenient horizontal configuration that is perfect for under screens or behind couches. If you want the ultimate in pure, subterranean bass, the Epicenter EP800 Intelligent DSP Subwoofer delivers.  It's built to last with a 5 year manufacturers warranty to back it up.

In this graph, there is an 8 dB rolloff to 13 Hz, but the response is otherwise flat from 15 - 75 Hz. I suspect that at least some of the rolloff is due to room effects and unfortunately the BFD is not capable of any sort of equalization below 20 Hz, so my ability tweak that low is nil. (they didn't plan for a sub like the EP800 when they built it!)

Just to test this theory, I played a test tone at 13 Hz and turned up the gain manually to see how loud it would go (or how loud I could stand it). When it hit 103 dB at 13 Hz, I decided to give up. (Yes, 103 dB at 13 Hz!) Keep in mind that my gain dial on the back of the 800 isn't even at the halfway mark, but I literally could hear and feel the drywall in the back walls of my theater shaking when going to 103 dB, so I didn't feel like taking it any louder.

So, to answer the question above, "Is it Loud?" Yes, it is.

The SVS can be tuned to several different modes (10,15,20 Hz, etc.) For this comparison, I'm using the measurements taken from the 10 Hz mode as it seems to most closely resemble the extension of the EP800. Below are the best results I was able to achieve with both subs in my room.

The graphs below include the EP600 as well to show a complete comparison between the three.

As the graph shows, in my room the EP800 extends its flat response significantly deeper, but it is again important to note that this is likely largely impacted by room effects as I did not have my home theater chairs in the room when I tested the PB13, so this is not an entirely apples to apples comparison. I've seen several frequency response charts that show the SVS playing with only a modest roll off down to 10 Hz, so I believe this chart belies its capabilities to some degree (though you'll note it did have slightly more output at 10 Hz than the 800).

Tested it out before. Not very accurate. There is a variance of 7-9dB when I compared it to RS SPL.

I will keep you in mind boss if i decide that i want one. Btw, did you see my post in your svs sales thread?

I have a few question regard it. Since i am on stereo amp and im thinking to get a subwoofer.
1. Do i need a spl meter to calibrate the gain, phase, crossover?
2. How to calibrate? I assume i need test tones? Or any music will do?

Thanks sifus icon_question.gif

It doesn't really matter. With 'y' splitter, you are gaining 6dB from it. However, you still need to calibrate either by using audyssey or SPL meter to get the correct reading and setting.

some rooms able to take c/o up to 100Hz with beautiful effect. One need to experiment in order to find out which is best smile.gif

Try your front as 'Full Band' setting with the rest c/o at 60Hz. LMK the result.

Wow.... USD500. That's probably due to the crate size and not to mention the weight.

I got the total weight for shipping break into 4 package. The shipping charges is actually USD 560.

The kit ships as 4 packages.

2 QTY: 18.25" x 18.25" x 16.5" Each Weighing 60 lbs (the woofer)
1 QTY: 17" x 17" x 9.5" Weighing 42 Lbs (amplifier)
1 QTY: 11" x 40" x 17" Weighing 60 Lbs. (DIY pre cut panel)

Total is 220lbs. Calculate the kit is around USD 1125 + 560 = USD 1685 x 3.5 = MYR 5897.50 + 25% tax = MYR 7371.80 + MYR 500 (for labor and veneer by carpenter) = MYR 7871.80.

Now the final question... to buy or not to buy rclxub.gif

And if you want to try something different, you might want to try these kits http://www.aespeakers.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2441, P series cabinet with drivers, you need to buy the amp though, these kits do not come with amp. I have the AV15X in 3.5cu ft sealed, and it goes down pretty low in my room.

Taikor, pierreye did consider the PB13-Ultra before smile.gif . However, he is looking at other alternatives. DIY path is always fascinating and that it doesn't 'cost' as much. Each has his/her own preference wink.gif

Btw, still finding time to go up North and audition the monster Submersive sweat.gif Been busy with acoustic treatment. Now, thinking of DIY a 2x 6" thick frame (2' x 4') to house 4" high density rockwool.

I almost pull the trigger on PB13-Ultra but I still think a sealed sub is better for it's musical characteristic. If you want an all out LFE, PC13 or PB13 Ultra would be a good buy. Submersive sub seems like a final sub for most people. Seldom I heard from the forum they want to upgrade to another sub, only add on more submersive. I too do consider submersive but Mark never reply my email so I give up on Submersive. eD seems like a good alternative with cheaper price. There is a guy who bought both submersive and eD sub for comparison in avsforum.

Holy shit. 2 x 15" and 4 x 18" sub in a cabinet!!! Amp is quite cheap if you get EP2500 or EP 4000.

Yes, I do agree. A ported sub even on sealed config (like 13-Ultra) will never match the tightness and pace of a sealed sub with similar spec. For movie, ported sub has the upper hand.

Submersive has been a great sub. Now, we have Paradigm Sub 25. I wonder how it fares against Submersive. Some guys in avsforum claimed that Sub 25 took over 'the throne' from Submersive. Then again, it is more expensive.

Did you try to e-mail Mark again? Or maybe he has a 'phobia' with Malaysian after the incident laugh.gif tongue.gif Probably he is busy keeping up with the orders since his company is relatively small. However, he seriously needs someone to take care of the e-mails on inquiries.

On another note, we should recommend logit85 to get Elemental Design subs for his tamil songs collection whistling.gif .

Just notice that you are now with a new subwoofer.. congrat on the new subM..
Also notice there is more Canton user around as well....
For your nice woofer, what interconnect do you use? Curious on what nice to match the overall sound character of Canton.
Also, are you using the standard jumper that came along with your Chronos (the nice looking metal spade) or you upgraded/change to something else? Curious if my Chronos 509 will benefit if I look into changing the jumper.
Finally envy your big Subwoofer.. those of us who have neighbours downstair, upstair, left and right cannot get such a big one or else Management sent warning letter.... Ended up with MiniMe, Earthquake style cube for the Boom...

No definite date yet. Schedule is end May 2010 along with SB13-Plus.

Price will be about PB12-NSD range. Yes, this sealed sub is more suitable for music.

I am not too sure abt the pricing as it's been quite some time that I last met up with Atven or Rick of A&L.

DD-10 sld be in the region of RM10K but that was years ago. Anyway, better PM CT Seong for exact pricing.

Speaking of Emotiva, they did not bother to reply my e-mail after the product was delivered with a t-shirt missing. Not being particular abt the t-shirt, but at least have the courtesy to reply. So much so for their after sales service.

Mr Tan got so pissed with their delay in reply for XPA-2 that he decided not to buy from them.

Emotiva is different from M Seaton as they are more 'organised' and a bigger entity with ample personnel. Just that it really surprisingly disappointing with their attitude

Welcome back, bro smile.gif

Yes, indeed disappointing. I wonder what will happen if any of our power amps blows off. It could possibly be a long wait. In saprozeldo's case, he need to call them at midnight to get the quote during the promo as they did not reply his few e-mails.

Btw, have you been able to re-position your F15?

Have no problems with the first few e-mails wt Emo. Payment made. Then, things start to go a bit slow. Still reply. The goods reached KLIA well before their reply on the tracking no.

After I found a missing t-shirt, I e-mailed to ask. From then on, nothing.

Yes, the paper cone will not be as lasting as polypropylene and other mat in our high humidity climate.

Just a question to all the sub sifu's here, notworthy.gif

I now have my speakers (Onkyo SKF-330 series) and also a Pioneer VSX-919AH-K AVR

What sub under RM1K do you guys recommend?

Room size is 11 feet by 9 feet

Mainly for Movies BD and MKV's (50%) Music (25%) and PC Games (25%)

Main output for all 3 is from a PC thru HDMI.

Thanks for the reply in advance. notworthy.gif

P.S I have no brand preference, just a tight budget, second hands welcome if you wanna sell it under my budget. brows.gif

It's an ID company so there isn't. You need to contact them directly. Best of luck to you as it doesn't live up to my expectation as well as a few others about its so-called excellent service sweat.gif . Quality products, yes (touch wood) but they seriously need to improve their service esp for oversea's customers. Remind me of M Seaton's case (ronnt88 & pierreye)

We are focusing in this year KLIAV show. Prior to the KLIAV, we will be advertising in NST too. Please take a flight to KL come July 23-25 smile.gif Credit card payment is available wink.gif

Here's a reply from Emotiva regarding the price of it's latest subwoofer (with shipping to Malaysia).
QUOTE
I am pleased to quote the following:

Ultra Sub 12 $499.00
Freight $196.71 FedEx Economy
Total $695.71

I am unable to quote the Ultra Sub 10 at this time because it is not instock. We are expecting it to be in stock in 3 to 4 weeks.

All this sub research is going to make me sick. I'm currently looking into another option, dual Epik Empire sub. But the investment would be expensive as I need to get SVS EQ1 due to the dual sub tuning.

eD currently is out of the question as there are some reported problem with LT1300 amp plus long waiting (some wait for 3-6 months to get the sub). Currently a single Empire is at USD 799.

Boss, the PB13-Ultra not is puny those light subs that get we to everyday see. Way no pinjam going for you. 82kg sub lug around is small feat no.

Btw, better PM you astherteoh to test his Sunfire while keep you survey other subs since Penang also both of you.

He thinks that the PB13-Ultra is very 'mobile' doh.gif

The other day, I delivered a PB13-Ultra to a customer in Klang. To lift it up into the Unser, it is better to have 3 persons doing it. The sub is meant for the master room on the 1st floor. We have to move it up. It took about 5 minutes to do so and we have to take a break halfway. That's 3 persons lifting it sweat.gif .

htkaki,

If I remember correctly, the one I auditioned was a 8 inch Sunfire HRS Sub. It was darn small but heavy for its size. Sound wise, it's considered clean for a small sealed sub. Only one drawback, perhaps due to its size, the sub tend to 'dance' around when the bass is too low...perhaps the bigger one would not have such problem. I guess it's due to its weight and the power it could deliver....Other than that, it's not bad at all.

haha! i know this sub is rather good but am a newbie in regards to tuning a sub for best effect with my SR6003. any step 1-2-3 guidance anfieldude?

here's what i've listened to before deciding on item#5.
1. Velo DD-12 (the BEST!) drool.gif
2. Velo CHT-12Q (bass not tight nor impactful enuf)
3. Paradigm DSP-3400 (better than CHT-12Q... a little)
4. Earthquake Mini-me 12 (not much bass..??)
5. Sunfire HRS-12 (rather close to DD series but not as omphh!) thumbup.gif
6. Polk (forgot which model but i think it's a 10".... not good)

It would of different characteristic wink.gif

Unfortunately, there isn't one in PG. The nearest would be mys_terious' home.

Not easy to put the 13-Ultra's performance into words. Best is to audition it. Anfieldude, jchong, bryanlee and the rest whom had auditioned it will know about the feeling.

If Ronnt88 want the shootout, I don't mind hosting the event again. We can watch avatar again. Is it 200lbs in total for submersive? I'll get Anfieldude to bring the SVS AS-EQ1 to try out.

OK. I admit it's me. Anyway, I just got news from eD that they can ship out the kits in 1.5 weeks with the new LT1300 amp which had solved the circuit breaker trip issue. So, maybe instead of DD-12, might be eD-A7s650. Need to talk to my carpenter how much total for assembly and veneer.

Not the best. Everyone still take Submersive as the sub to beat. There is another monster DIY sub, Danley DTS-10 which is a horn design. This sub is huge and I dont' have the space for that sub.

Haha... this forum is to goreng people to spend money. As long as anyone is buying, we tumpang happy.

Anyway, part of the reason I go for eD A7s650 is I want a sealed sub with ability to play loud and clean with gradual slope at lower end freq. (min +-3db from 20hz to 100hz and able to hit 115db). Also foot print must not be huge due to space constraint. This sub is tall but only 16" W x 16" D. If compare to local purchase sub, with the tax built-in still a good buy. Only disadvantage is no built in EQ.

Might go for dual sub. As I look for dual sub options, after searching locally I found those that can complement DD-12 cost me at least RM 4k and above. I'll try out one eD sub first, then add in DD-12 to see if there is any benefit. If not, then I will move DD-12 to my living hall as I'm changing my YSP-4000 to Axiom In wall/On wall speakers.

Interested in my DD-12?

Should be the one. Waiting for their banking info. Shootout is just for comparison between different tech and pros or cons of each design. Once we know our preferences, then it's easier to make the right purchase in the future.

The best part is when the titan speak, you can feel the low bass shaking. The sound reinforce that titan is huge and had high volume of air.

I came across this today....not sure if it have been discussed here.

EMOTIVA ULTRA SUB (USD499)
Spec:
Power Output: 300 watts RMS, 500 watts peak

Typical In‐Room Frequency Response: 22Hz‐200Hz

Typical In‐Room SPL: 110‐113db

Nominal input sensitivity:
Balanced Input: 1V
Unbalanced Input: 500 mv.

Phase Adjustment: 0 - 180 degrees @50Hz

Low pass Crossover: 50-150Hz variable, 24db per octave

Dimensions: 14.5” wide x 14.5” high x 15.25” deep

Weight: 38 lbs.

Its a seal 12"sub and comes at a super low price too. Since Emotiva makes very decent product, I would think this is a good sub too....might give SVS a run for its money.

Guys, for a typical 18*14*10 room, I'm using a Wharfy SW20 and find it "weak". Is the room too big for a 10" sub to handle?

18' x 14' x 10' is considered as big room. I do not know how 'weak' is weak. However, yours is a mansion in the island itself. Could it be 18m x 14m x 10m like a theater hall? hmm.gif whistling.gif tongue.gif

Back to topic, did you try other location for the sub or do a sub crawl. You might be sitting in a null area. If it is not, then the 10" is 'weak' for your room. Errr... time for SVS? (have to promote a bit blush.gif )

Bro, as my whole setup is in my living room, I cannot put the sub freely as I want. It has to be in front next to the rack. sad.gif

When I say "weak", I am trying to say that I can't feel the solid punch, but it has no problem to rattle my plaster ceiling. It goes low and I can feel the rumble on my sofa although it is like 14 feet away (Audyssey measured a distance of 4.83 meters), just don't have that hit in the chest. Could this be a characteristic of a sealed enclosure? My previous sub was a ported 10" back in my apartment and of course a smaller room.

It could one of the reason as sealed sub does not move as much air as a ported sub. A good ported sub can easily hit low LFE with massive air pressure while you need to have a sealed sub with a lot much power and driver to do the same. But, sealed sub has better pace and tightness over ported, which is why it is better for music.

one of the good sealed sub that I have enjoyed is from PMC during AV Show when they were playing Kung Fu Panda...The pace and punch was surprisingly strong and definitely with good clarity and definition...You may try out in their showroom or visit their booth during the coming AV show.

You can use 1-2 (y splitter) to gain +6dB. Or jz connect to white input of the sub. Some cases, red input. Refer to manual.

Need sifu advise.

I have an old Sony sub, which has a Freq.cut-off from 50 - 100Hz. I set it at 100 Hz.
My AVR 2309, I set the sub cut-off at 100 Hz.

Should I set my sub freq. lower? Same freq.as well for AVR?

"bypass" means the sub will accept the freq. cut-off done by AVR?
Should I set the AVR cut-off sub freq. to the lowest? ie 50Hz?

I'm not sure my sub can bypass or not. will check it out.

Thks.

essentially, your sub won't receive the freq as it is being cut by the AVR.
bypass meaning, disable, or off the sub's crossover freq.
Let the AVR handle the crossover.

Best to set your AVR crossover to 80Hz-120Hz depending on your other speakers.

My sub can't set to bypass.
My other speakers setting at AVR was "Small"(bookshelf).
So, that means I need to set the sub and AVR crossed at same freq?
ie 100 Hz for both?

Jimmy,

What is the exact labelling on ur sub for this cutoff? I believe this is a low pass filter, meaning anything above this it will not play on the sub.

Also on the AVR what is the exact labelling of the sub? This shd also be a low pass filter so essentially they shd be set the same.

What I would advise u to do would be to decide the frequency of the mains/centre and the sattelite. What are they set at?

Also what is the rating on ur sub?

What is ur AVR? Does it have Audyssey? Or any room correction?

It's called Cut-off Freq as stated in the manual, from 50Hz - 100Hz. I agreed, is a low pass filter.

It's called Crossover Freq(AVR Denon 2309)

I set the crossover freq. for all speakers(FL,FR,C,SR,SL) at 100Hz in the Speaker Advance Setting menu.

Also what is the rating on ur sub?
I think is 170Watts.

What is ur AVR? Does it have Audyssey? Or any room correction?
Denon 2309 and I don't use the Audyssey and room correction.

Then it would be 100Hz for the AVR and sub. Normally you turn clockwise to the max at your sub xo to set it bypass. Else, just set to 100Hz.

Out of curiosuty, what speakers that you are using? Small bookshelf spkrs? hmm.gif

Jimmy,

As htkaki said, set both to 100Hz. How low does ur Sony sub go? Was this a standalone sub or something from a HTIB?

Why don't u use Audyssey? Did u run into any problems? If u did run Audyssey, could u let me know the settings that Audyssey suggested?

Also as htkaki asks, pls let us know what speakers u use?

The lowest setting for my sub is 50Hz, max is 100Hz. It's a standalone sub.

I'm not really study on how to use the Audyssey yet. Will try it out when I'm free.

My speakers very old liao...pai seh...he..he..
I'm using BMB Custom for FL,FR and C. They were a big taller than normal bookshelf(still use speaker stand), with 2 mid speakers and a tweeter.
My RS and LS is from Acoustic Energy(AE100).

Ok. BMB speakers are normally for karaoke as such, high effeciency but also distortion. So u need to watch the volume. Since they are high efficiency, what speaker level trims did u set since u do not use Audyssey? If u do not have a SPL meter, it is difficult to set correctly and this could spoil ur HT experience as u could be overpowering ur surrounds or vice versa. Audyssey will take away all the guess work unless u are planning to set everything by ear and are happy with it.

Also these speakers don't normally go low as its meant for vocals. So I would suggest to let Audyssey do its thing and see how it sounds. I believe ur settings of 100Hz are not too far off, but I also believe u would not have adjusted the trims, unless u did. Audyssey automates this whole process of setting the speaker trims, crossovers and also checks if u set the phase correctly. If u run into any problems with Audyssey, let me know. Also pls use a tripod when u do Audyssey calibration. Read the instructions and carry out the 8 points if it allows. Then see how it sounds. It shd be more balanced and since it also has filters to fix the frequency issues in ur room, shd sound more correct.

Thanks for valuable advice.

What is "speaker level trims" as u mentioned?

FYI, these BMB speakers are not for karaoke, they were a specially custom made meant for home theatre used. Maybe I snap some photos later.

Will definitely try out the Audyssey.
