For a handset with such a broad range of standout features and specs, the Galaxy S II is remarkably easy to summarize. It's the best Android smartphone yet, but more importantly, it might well be the best smartphone, period. Of course, a 4.3-inch screen size won't suit everyone, no matter how stupendously thin the device that carries it may be, and we also can't say for sure that the Galaxy S II would justify a long-term iOS user foresaking his investment into one ecosystem and making the leap to another. Nonetheless, if you're asking us what smartphone to buy today, unconstrained by such externalities, the Galaxy S II would be the clear choice. Sometimes it's just as simple as that.

Is it perfect? No, of course not. While we like some of Samsung’s tweaks – the Kies air app is surprisingly useful, for instance – we’d prefer to see a clean Gingerbread install rather than TouchWiz. How much of a delay that UI modification will force on future Android OS updates remains to be seen, and some changes – such as the keyboard – are frankly backward steps. There are also some annoying teething pains, such as the Video Maker app being unable to handle the Galaxy S II’s 1080p footage.
They pale in comparison to the Samsung’s strengths, however. The display belies its WVGA resolution with Super AMOLED Plus technology that manages to be both frugal and visible outdoors, while the dual-core 1.2GHz processor does a similar balancing act with power use and performance. Together they add up to a smartphone with brilliant battery life and the most future-proof hardware we’ve seen to-date. Layer on top of that a great camera, fulsome multimedia support, broad connectivity and a wafer-thin design, and we’re running out of reasons not to buy the Galaxy S II. Samsung has upped not only its game but the benchmark for smartphones in general.

And so we come to the end of our epic Samsung Galaxy S2 review – and we know some of you might have jumped straight here to see what we think.
However, if you're considering purchasing this phone, we recommend you take a look through our review, as there's a lot to cover in the new phone and we wouldn't want you to miss anything now, would we?
But if you're after a one-word summary of the Samsung Galaxy S2: awesome. We've been waiting for a phone to set a benchmark among the dual-core breed, and we've found it in the Samsung Galaxy S2.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Seldom do we rate a phone a full 5/5, but the Galaxy S II is one of the most advanced, well-rounded, and powerful smartphones we've ever tested. Samsung truly delivered on its second-generation Galaxy S. We can't get over how thin the Galaxy S II is, and it's a true joy to be able to browse the web with such smoothness and speed.
There certainly is room for improvement here. Samsung ought to work on making TouchWiz as lean as possible, and it'd be nice to turn it off entirely and revert back to stock Android for maximum speed. We also wonder whose idea it was to have the device make a beep when the battery is fully charged...if you like waking up at 3AM, this won't be a problem for you, but for those of us that like to sleep soundly, it's a big annoyance.

The Plus indicates a transition from the Pentile matrix to a panel technology that has three sub-pixels for each pixel. The Pentile matrix shares eight sub-pixels between four pixels while the new pixel layout in Super AMOLED Plus follows what has been commonly done in LCD panels. This means the same four pixels will have a total of 12 sub-pixels. This should translate to improved color reproduction and a generally sharper-looking images.

Samsung Galaxy S2 internal memory explanation
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The internal 16 GB is flash memory. 2 GB is partitioned (unviewable) and all your apps is installed there. Out of the balance 14 GB, about 2GB is used by phone system and you have about 12 GB left. When you installed apps with supporting data, example games downloads, dictionary data, news feed, tweeter feeds data etc, all such data goes into the other 12 GB partition

Battery maintenance tips : from forum lowyat SGS thread
1) Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a device is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.
2) Batteries with fuel gauge should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.
3) Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.
4) Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing dates. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.
5) If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.
How to calibrate battery ?
1.Run the device down until it turns itself off. 2.Turn it back on and wait for it to turn itself off again. 3.Remove the battery for 10 seconds. 4.Replace the battery, but leave the device off. 5.Charge the device until full and then for another hour. 6.**Root users only** Using a Terminal Emulator, type “su” enter, followed by “rm /data/system/batterystats.bin” ( can also be done more easily through CWM or SGSTools app) 7.Run the device’s battery down until it turns itself off. 8.Turn the device on and charge for at least 8 hours. 9.Unplug the device, turn off, then charge for another hour. 10.Unplug the device, turn on, wait 2 minutes. 11.Turn off again and charge for another hour. 12.Restart and use as normal.
Wakelocks?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Use BetterBatteryStats to check what is keeping your phone Awake and not allowing the phone to enter deep sleep
In the words of the developer:
I wrote BetterBatteryStats because I was missing the great battery history that Spare Parts allowed to call on Froyo: - Process stats with User and System CPU time - Network Usage with bytes sent and received - Wakelock stats (the most important one when it comes to battery drain)
This app is still under development and may contain bugs. If you find one you can keep it, but I’d be happy if you could also report it to me. BetterBatteryStats is calling the “batteryinfo” service of Android to retrieve data already lying there without generating overhead. BetterBatteryStats is focussing and has been tested on Froyo and Gingerbread and the APK is set to run only on those versions only. What are wakelocks and why should you care about them? When it comes to Android the most discussed and commented topic that I know is battery drain / battery life. I’m a quite heavy user because I spend a lot of time on the train every day reading my mails, surfing and listening to music but still my phone is off for a long time during the day and while I accept the battery being drained while I use the phone I care about it draining slowly while “doing nothing”. And here’s the point: my SGS2 drains about 2-10 mAh where it was up at 20-100 mAh before I started cleaning stuff up.

Basically, you just need to replace the map data : see tutorial here :
Tips from user selphy : Ok, for those of you who have trouble installing the Google Maps (for Navigation), i had issues too, but managed to do it through the following:
1. First, make sure your phone is rooted, then download the Google Maps-ownhere.apk (NOT the re-sign one), and transfer to your external SD card. 2. Using Titanium backup on your phone, wipe data and then uninstall both Google Maps and Street View. 3. Then using root explorer on your phone (i used Super Manager, which also has root functions), transfer the Google Maps-ownhere.apk file to your phone's system/app folder (make sure its set to R/W). 4. Then just reset the phone, and voila! Navigation is available!

Deep Sleep?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Deep Sleep runs automatically by the kernel and on battery only. If connected to charger, the kernel won't trigger deep sleep mode (the CPU will throttle down to 200MHz). When activated, the kernel will reduce the CPU frequency like notebook standby and will wake the phone when any services require an update in order to save battery.
Drawback, it introduce the wake up lag to the phone. If your phone instantly wakes up on battery, it means there is an active app running in the foreground (normally apps which requires constant network access) or a nasty app did not suspend or kill by the OS.
App to use to monitor : CPU Spy.

Your backup here is often called a Nandroid backup . All your phone's data, apps, settings, roms, kernel etc is FULLY 100 % backup, Under this ClockworkMod recovery you will also have option to RESTORE 100 % the phone status
Titanium Backup is an APP which requires phone to be rooted. You can use TB to backup all your apps and its associated data. You ONLY can use TB in a working phone . You can restore anything from TB if your phone crashes and cannot be rebooted. TB does not backup your kernel/roms,
Overheating Issues?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
For new users and to be user - the SGS II operating temperatures is higher than most other Androids, simply because it is dual core and its thinness transmit heat easily. Some users like to use the word " hot" - I'd said is warmer than normal. The word hot connotes a feeling of uneasiness and a possible burning effect on your skin, which it will not. Most users I believe will use some sort of casing or backcover - these will reduce the effect
If you have been using single core Androids 1 GHZ models before - you will not experienced the " hotness" as a serious concern, I'd say generally is about 2-3 degree centigrade more. Those who are coming over from say Blackberries and Symbian will feel the difference more obviously
Use an app to monitor battery temperatures - batterylife widget is a good free app. It shows you the temperature and voltage and is quite a well designed widget
These are guides to operating temperatures ( degree centigrade ) basing solely on my usage :
Idle not in use : 26 - 31 Browsing : 32-35 Gaming : 35 - 40 WiFi hotspot : 35 - 45 GPS : 35 -45
With prolong continuous usage over several hours it could hit 50 but I'd think such usage should be minimal unless you are one freaking gamer I read the phone has gone to extreme testing till 70 degree and still performs well

Rooting an Android phone opens its core functions that aren’t available when you buy it. One of the major benefits is the ability to install apps to the SD card, which saves space on the device. Rooting also enables you to install apps that required access to system files, example - backup , screenshots . Commonly use of rooting is to allow installation of alternative roms which is faster and better, more features, and reduced bloatware. Rooting will not remove your 3rd party apps, data/wipe clean your phone. And the chance of bricking the phone during rooting is close to impossible. Just make sure your phone has at least 50% battery charge. Do refer to the specific methods on how to unroot back if needed - easiest is to use SuperOneclick, One root solution or flash back official stock rom
Warranty?

Rooting will void your warranty but you could always unroot it before you send to SME to fix your phone. Some SME might not even mind if your phone is rooted.
How to Root? (ONLY For the Original Galaxy S2 variant (i9100)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Rooting
1. Download Odin and the correct CF-root zip file according to your firmware. To check, go to settings, about phone, scroll to the bottom. Look at kernel version, remember the last 3 letters, so let's say its XXKL1, then download the KL1 CF Root file.
2. Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
3. (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
4. Start ODIN
5. Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
6. Put your phone in download mode (To enter download mode, power off the phone, then press the volume down+home+power button at the same time. Once you see the GT-I9100, let go of all 3 buttons. The phone will display "warning" and some text. Press volume up button to continue. Your phone should show an android icon and "downloading" text. This means you are in download mode now.)
7. (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
8. Make sure repartition is NOT checked
9. Click the START button
10. Wait for the phone to reboot
11. Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
It is definitely possible to remove that pesky warning triangle during boot when running a custom kernel, though you should be well aware that this method does NOT reset the custom kernel flash counter. The steps are not complicated, but they aren't easy either, so read well.
1. Make sure you have CF-Root flashed (see the first post). You must have the "CWM Manager" app available.
2. Make sure you have the same version of CF-Root extracted until you have the zImage file. (ZIP --> extract --> TAR --> extract --> zImage).
3. Push the zImage file to /sdcard . It must still be called zImage !
4. Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)
5. Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or boot the device with home and volume-down pressed)
6. Fire up ODIN, and flash the Samsung kernel
7. Boot the device with the stock kernel. CWM Manager will still be available.
8. Start CWM Manager, select Flash Kernel, and select the zImage from CF-Root you previously put on your SD-card. The kernel will flash and the device will reboot.
9.You will now notice you no longer have the warning triangle during boot, but you are actually running CF-Root with all it's goodies!
10. In the future, if you only use the Flash Kernel option inside CWM Manager instead of ODIN, the triangle will not return, neither will your flash counter increase. But keep in mind, that CWM Manager can only handle a direct "zImage" if you are NOT running a kernel with full busybox support (this is currently needed for flashing kernels out of .TAR and .ZIP files)

First and foremost I am not an expert in such stuffs - this is based on my experience flashing the first Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab and present Galaxy S II. Any experts reading this please do correct me if I am wrong in any way
PIT stands for PARTITION INFORMATION TABLE. The pit file basically tells Odin how to divide the partitions (for formating) and also where certain components ( PDA, PHONE, CSC ) to go when flashing them individually. PIT understanding is very crucial when you wish to flash roms from samfirmware.com , one place I always discourage new users from attempting as it is a trap to bricking a phone if you do not understand what you are doing
Cooked roms take cares of PIT ; you rarely see cooked roms asking you to choose PIT during flash thro Odin. Most cook roms, the developer has built in his rom the PIT instructions
For example, in the samfirmware.com Galaxy S site, you can even see different types of PIT listed and a warning that you choose the right PIT file. In its SGS II site, If you look at samfirmware.com - there is a default PIT file you can download at the top box just above the list of firmwares for different regions. If you download any of these official roms, you will see some roms comes with a PIT file and some does not. You asked a very good question, why is the PIT included if is of no use ? My advise is simply this : If you see a PIT included in your rom, choose it during flashing as most probably the PIT is a changed version from default. You can only use this PIT to flash with the rom that comes with it. You cannot take this PIT and used it to flash another rom - this will brick your phone. When you use a wrong PIT - you have 2 possible scenarios : - failed flash and phone cannot boot - flash OK but the whole internal SD is formatted and cannot be detected at all by phone ( my experience with the Tab)
If the rom downloaded does not supplied a PIT file - than you just flash it without it or you choose the default PIT
As the PIT name implies, using PIT basically repartition /reformat your whole internal SD - once you select PIT, you will see repartition is auto selected. All your data in the internal SD will be wipe clean
You can choose NOT to select the PIT during flashing if you wish to have your internal SD intact. I cannot say whether you will have a successful flash. If is successful it just means your present rom PIT is similar to the rom you have downloaded. If is unsuccessful, just flash it again and select PIT
If the rom file is packaged together as a single tar file ( instead breakdown into separate entities of PDA, Phone, CSC ) , there is no need to use PIT. Just flash the tar file as PDA in Odin
Recovery/Download Mode?

Download mode is used when you need to flash rom through Odin. Recovery mode is used when you wish to do a backup/restore of your phone, flash roms based on zip files, cleaning up your caches , update firmware officially through supplied update zip files etc.

ClockworkMod has much more to it such as :
1. Reboot system now
2. Apply update from sdcard
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Wipe cache partition
5. Install zip from card
6. Backup and restore
7. Mounts and storage
8. Advanced

What is ROM/Flashing/FAQ about Flashing?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Q: What is a ROM?
A: A ROM contains the operating system and often additional software which can be “installed” to your mobile device. Most ROM’s provided by the chefs (people who create cutomized ROM’s) just contain the operating system and additional applications. Shipping ROM’s (ROM’s provided by the manufacturer or official providers) also contain a Radio ROM and a bootloader. Please notice: A ROM can ONLY be flashed to a device it is made for.
Q: What is a Radio ROM?
A: The Radio ROM contains the drivers for the communication devices of your phone. Some ROM’s need one or more specific Radio ROM’s to work properly. Usually the chef, who created the ROM recommends a Radio ROM. But don’t mind, if your Radio Rom does not match, you can always flash another without needing to flash the ROM containing the Operating System (OS) again.
Q: What means SIM-Unlock?
A: Lots of providers want to bind their customers. So they add a SIM-Lock to their devices with only allows to use SIM-Cards using their networks. If you want to use a SIM-Card from another provider, you need to SIM-unlock your device. This can be done by contacting the phone's provider (paid & sometimes free). This is common for USA based Tecos.
Q: Can I brick my phone by flashing a ROM?
A: YES. But if you follow all instructions, it is quite implausible that your device bricks.
Q: Does flashing affect the warranty of my device?
A: Yes, flashing an unofficial rom will void warranty. But as long as your device can be unrooted and be reflashed again to stock original rom you can than send in for warranty claims.
Q: What can I do, if i gain problems with the ROM i flashed to my device?
A: First of all you should inform the creator by posting in the ROM's thread if the problem is not described yet. Then you should wait for an update/fix or, if the issue is a showstopper for you, try another ROM.
Q: Which is the best/fastest/... ROM?
A: Nobody can answer you this properly. There are nearly daily new ROM's here and everybody has different demands to a ROM. If you want to know, which fits best for you, read the ROM description and try the ROM('s). Only you can decide, which ROM is the best (for you).
Q: What is the difference between a hardreset and a softreset?
A: A softreset reboots your device. A hardreset sets all settings back to the ROM's defaults. All of your data, settings and additionally installed programs will be deleted.
What is IMEI?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI is a number, usually unique, to identify GSM, WCDMA, and iDEN mobile phones, as well as some satellite phones. It is usually found printed inside the battery compartment of the phone. It can also be displayed on the screen of the phone by entering *#06# into the keypad on most phones.
The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing the network in that country. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "blacklist" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless on that network and sometimes other networks too, whether or not the phone's SIM is changed.
How to Backup your IMEI? (IMPORTANT)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Every user of this phone should always backup their IMEI just incase something goes wrong when flashing files, use 'ktool' to backup your IMEI, it can also be used to flash new kernel files.

The JIG just resets your flash counter and remove the yellow triangle during first bootup What does this counter do exactly?
It's very simple: it counts the number of times you flash a custom ROM or kernel on your SGS II, so the guys over at Samsung know of it when you return the phone to them for any kind of problem you may have (this is done so they can say whether you've voided your warranty or not). Even using Odin to get back to stock won't help you and will let the counter go up by one The good news is that the counter can be reset by using one of those jigs we all know very well
No, unfortunately Samsung has very clear in mind what it's doing. It seems there is a second counter, which counts the number of times the custom flash counter has been reset, and the bad news is that its position/folder has not been discovered yet.

Please note that ROMS made for the Original S2 cannot be flashed with the G version of S2 or you will brick your phone. Only ROMS made for the G version can be flashed.

If you install cracked/pirated apps from illegal "ahem" sources or using one of those blackmarket, faked android market apps, etc BEWARE that your phone becomes unstable. Common symptoms said to be due to these are :
- unexplained sudden reboots - auto shutdown - unstable browsing - sudden swing back to homescreen, freeze while in midst of browsing - occasional hangs/freeze while in use
The instability issues is more apparent/commonly occurring if phone is on Android version above Froyo 2.2.2 . Gingerbread is obviously more insecure
No one knows exactly how these cracked apps interact with one another and a combination of certain specific apps could be the cause of these issues. Installing anti virus apps might help but is not a proven solution.

Thanks to Spider on the CheckROM forums :
Most people come into custom roms and dont really understand what the forums are saying to them in the terms of doing things the right way, often things get misinterpreted as i understand but really you don't!!!
This is the case when it comes to custom roms installation, new comers think yeah i'll have a go and go for it without even understanding the basics of custom roms, wrong move, a little research didn't do anybody any harm, and is time well spent when it comes to taking a gamble on bricking your phone.
The main thing I've noticed is that people don't understand what a full wipe is and just go with what they see...
Going into clockwork mode and just selecting wipe. data, wipe delvic cache, wipe cache, is not a proper full wipe, its like wiping your arse with shit still in your bumhole untill you wash it, no no no, this method doesn't remove the old system files, there still there untill you carry out a format of the system partition, if you dont do this and install a rom over it you will have problems with the rom you just installed.
The correct procedure for doing a full wipe is below.
Go to clockwork mode recovery.
Go to mounts and storage and select it.
Go to format / system and select it. Scroll down to format system and select yes.
Go to format / data and select it. Scroll down to format data and select yes.
Go to format / cache and select it. Scroll down to format cache and select yes.
That's it no need to format anything else, just go back and install the rom from sd card.
This is the correct way of doing a full wipe everything is erased and formatted ready for the new rom, no old system files etc....

Im trying to root my phone but im very new to it. Im aware that the first thing i need to do is to flash using the ODIN software. The problem is, when i've push the buttons that sets the phone to downloading mode, i only got to the 'Downloading....do not turn off target'. When i connect with USB to my computer, in the ODIN window, the small box doesnt turn yellow, as if it didnt detect my phone.
And where do i find this CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar file? Phone is GT-i9000.
Any advise?

Switching to Speedmod for now as Siyah seems to have some battery drain issues since 3.2. Anyone experienced it?
I experience a lot battery drain on siyah 3.1 beta (most of the betas, same result).. ~20-30% drain overnight (wifi+data+sync on)
At first, I thought the wifi kernel wakelock causing it, but now, on siyah 3.2 (b6, b8 & rc1), I have very good battery life with same setup.. ~6-9% drain only overnight (wifi+data+sync on)
but of course I need to test even further, which I can't at the moment as I'm going holiday starting tomorrow, so cannot play flashing these few days.. (play reliability testing instead).. as this phone will be my main camera..

The drain I'm talking about is mostly when the screen is on :/
how do it select and put at PDA? the CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_KI4-v4.4-CWM4.zip doesnt seem like a .tar file i've selected the PDA button but nothing came up to open.
what i got in the .zip file is the zImage item that didnt show up as a .tar file in ODIN

Unzip the file to extract the .tar. Click on the word PDA. Not the tick box.

Screen off drain is tolerable.
ok, then I'm not too sure.. Never really notice screen on drain, as I will do random stuff like surfing, playing games, reading ebooks, checking emails, whatsapping, etc etc..
and I usually plugged in to USB when I reached office because sometimes I do usb tethering when my office line sucks..
What is the best rom you guys used currently, maybe there is no perfect 1, but which is the best for daily use you guys think?
for now ive been using resurrection remix as my daily driver, gotta love the aokp features man, it's been a few weeks already without any hiccup for me

Solution proposed by user joshuawang: Resolution
1. Unplug the USB cable
2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode. The good mode should be PDA. Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.
3. Plug the USB cable.
Note:
* Repair USB connection for any Samsung Android phone

I did get my splash screen wiped off when I used it though (it became just one line of text), fixed it by using the splash screen changer.

yes that 2 question can be asked and i gave you a simple guideline on where to read, if you ask how to root i may not answer you directly, but others will, but then you will only be spoonfed and you wont understand why you should do this do that etc. this is not a cheap phone, you dont wanna brick it right? so its better to read the first page and try to understand it. another thing, check out the previous versions of this thread, v23 maybe, there are more guides there in first page.

you should not have updated your flash, did you read the comments at the market? you're not the only one with this problem, tons are. your best choice is to try to find an older version flash player from xda or some forums while you wait for a new update that fixes this
Hand itchy wana flash rom to try, since tomorrow Sunday. But can't find any nice ones. The description at xda seems never update one.
My criteria is, - no lock screen vibration -working FM radio, able to play from loud speaker. Spirit FM need pay if wan play from speaker. -wifi direct working, I need this, often use it. -usb otg working -able to skip songs with volume button - bug free crt off effect.
Aokp roms seems stuck with lock screen vibration Aosp and aokp seems no FM radio n wifi direct Miui can't skip tract with volume button, only can shake Litening rom got crt off bug, screen flashes after animation
Am I too choosy? I still on check rom, getting bored waiting for ics checkrom. But so far the ones I tried not satisfied my desires. Sigh...
enter cwm, clear wipe cache and dalvik cache, reboot got hardbrick? srsly too many options will make you coz you have no idea which is better you should not have updated your flash, did you read the comments at the market? you're not the only one with this problem, tons are. your best choice is to try to find an older version flash player from xda or some forums while you wait for a new update that fixes this
No hardbrick, touch wood wei
Back on Siyah anyways. Yeah too many options not sure what I'm doing. More than documented on xda so gonna leave it alone first till I get the time to play with it. But seems useful. One particular "responsiveness freq" option seems to tweak where the governor likes to sit at most, if not @ highest. Among other options

I think you just stick to what you're using now since your criterias are fully met by most of the roms. If you really want to flash a different ics rom then u have to prepared to live without some of those criterias.

Yeah for all the features, proly have to stick to GB rom for now. Maybe you can prioritize, like live without 1 or 2 of the above? Then I'm sure can find one of the ICS roms

I am sticking with current rom. Don't really feel like compromising those features,
But then, reality is cruel. Seems current ics all can't satisfy. Sigh.
I think my bet bet is Sammy's ics rom. Hope one of them will get the skip track with volume keys feature soon.

I've installed drop box, box and Google drive. I'm not sure if it has to do with any bugs on any of this software. Any pirated software you installed there? What bugs that did occur?
Im so pissed of with the keyboard. Using Swype is better but I hate using the keyboard in a browser (Dolphin HD). When I want to type, it becomes very jumpy. So I want to install an aftermarket keyboard app. Another reason is because I type a similar type message to around 30 people a day. So I want to get a good t9 app.
QUestion is, after I install an aftermarket app, can I still change back to the stock keyboard?

There are so many type of keyboard that suit different person, such as for me i'm using swift key X.. And yeah is the NO.1 for me..
hey guys im planning to get a microsd card..im thinking of 16gb but not sure which class? either 6/8/10 which one is most value for money?
the classes affect your write speed which is when your transfer files from your computer to your phone. so your choice, you prefer it transfer files at 10 or at 4/6 MBps
Hi all, planned to buy this phone next month, but i went to few retailers and most of the phone version available is G version, they did tried to explain to me the differences between G and non-G version but still i don get it, can any sifu here clarify for me? And also, is there any chances that price will drop after s3 launched? the current price retailers offer me ranging from rm1500-1600, can anyone advise me?

Doubt you'll find new SME non G sets around, if you want it's AP or 2nd hand. Personally I got mine in Nov, searched high and low for new SME non G, takda. So mine oso 2nd hand. Now is May..so yeah.
Difference is they use different SoC (CPU+GPU).
Non G is the first version launched by Samsung. Has Samsung's SoC inside called Exynos. Great performance, and stuff like that. Remember also that this is the first version, so most developers bought it when it was a hit. And developed stuff for it.
Apparently ppl did complain about overheating and "low battery life". More probably due to shortage of Exynos, but think Samsung said to address issues above. Regardless, they came out with 2nd version, uses a different SoC. Clocked at same speed, but consensus is GPU is inferior. Also, since it's not the first version launched where developers picked it up, less development for this phone. Some ppl complain about hang issues/sd card issues, but I'm personally not sure, and most ppl here will tell you it's solved via rooting and installing custom ROMs.
I'm still using CheckROM V6, because need full function... cry Latest Siyah can be use on GB ROM?
no kenot, serious dun even try later u hardbrick i dunno wait la, jkay say he will release his mod by this month, so checkrom ics will release by this month too

Thanks bro, so I will download the Siyah v2.99 to use first... Hopefully the CheckROM ICS will be arrive soon.
I was also like you... very religiously at CRRv6. In fact, still have it backed up on my device..
Have been running Wanamlite V11.5 and Siyah3.2 for about 5 days now.... looks like I'll be more than happy to switch.
What is it in CRRv6 that is missing in Wanam?
well... I'm not really missing Jkay after all.. I thought I would... but looks like ICS has grown into me... the things that I like:
1. Screen seems more vivid to me... I'm not sure if it's just me, but the overall look of the screen, homepage, and pictures look a tad brighter and vivid.
2. transitions are smoother and definitely fluid. Not that GB was shabby... but this just feels a tad smoother.
3. Gotta love that recent apps and swipe away notifications function. Very sleek.
4. Starting to really like Chrome Beta. I was so STUCK with the GB browser and would be caught dead using another browser... but chrome is really getting smooth now.. and the font re-sizing and readability is way better than that in the stock browser..
5. I know quadrant has been spat at many times here and there.. but just gave it a quick run... numbers shot up extensively... from an average 3600++ went up to an average of 4100++
CRR was fantabulous.. but looks like it's just a logical step to move on to ICS...

2 cents
Chrome is insane =p
Ok that's overstating it, but I really like Chrome. Especially ability to sync across platforms. I only use Chrome as browser now. All the searches and what nots I've typed syncs (I rarely memorize web pages, and I don't browse thru xda just to get where I want, so I google keywords), can even see previous sessions open. So I pick up my browsing right where I left off. Sometimes when I get lazy, I stop browsing on the desktop and move to my phone with my bed. Continues browsing seamlessly
And would proly try Wana and what nots once off this days. I know benchmark isn't much, but moving from CR to AOSP has decreased my points

True.
SOmetimes, the seamless syncing will be enough to buy people over. I too enjoy that very much and not needing to update my bookmarks on each device because they sync seamlessly when I update it on just 1 device.
I like the card tabs though.. really reminds me of webOS...
Wanam is ok. Very simple and doesn't really add much. If you like something very close to stock experience, then Wanam is the way to go. Very TW

Ah abit addicted to the whole stock google experience for now
Does it remove alot of samsung bloatware? I know I can do that myself, but do prefer when ROMs remove it, helps with my laziness

yes. removed completely. there is a zip file to reinstall them if you wish. by default it's removed... hmm... i thought most of the ICS custom roms did that?

Yeah generally, just wanted to confirm
iirc lite-ning does reduce bloatware, but still remains quite alot of it compared to other roms
Added on May 13, 2012, 10:25 pmAnyone updated to latest Hydrogenics?
Newest erm, highlights are 1. Sense style multitask window 2. Alot of tweaks added, if you've used fluxi, it's basically a rip of that Oh and this is detailed to the point that it has LMK settings (the detailed one), VM settings and what nots. Among the stuff that thunderbolt! tweaks. Pretty neat. No idea how to play with them though Doesn't have the extensive ondemand governor tweaks fluxi has though. Now it would great if pika could write-up a tutorial on what these values do, if that's even possible
Erm, for those geeks who are interested anyways. If you want sense multitask, guess you could be excited about that too

The sense task switcher is kinda awkward. We had it in one version of thebyani and it was removed in the next version. The stock task switcher is better in my opinion.

Actually I do agree with this. Using it for the heck of it, will proly switch back to stock soon. Stock makes more sense, can see more apps, etc. But sense one is pretty cool though. Does look a little suckier in this rendition I guess

well you can also try using third party task switching like droid4dock, wave launcher, multitasking, and swipepad

This is getting weird from Sam Malaysia. No response whatsoever regarding the update. I guess they're planning to release it together for the both models but why the heck it's taking so long..bad, very bad Sammy.
A lot of people asking about Sammie update for ICS in Malaysia...
Is there a real reason why you're waiting specifically for it since we can already test drive other ROMs? Especially those non-G users... I'm really interested in knowing why is there an anxious wait for ICS malaysia when most of us have already jumped shipped using custom roms...
When I was in GB, I didn't bother about the Malaysian GB modem even.. if that's what we're all waiting for that is...

i believe not everyone would go on flashing there are few amount of user are still ori firmware so that's maybe the reason
Well for me, I've used custom roms and they're good. But not everyone uses custom stuff. And the official one is always the most stable..well, only for Samsung I assume. The official 4.0.3 for Xperia Arc S almost destroys the phone. The biggest thing is, all the neighbouring countries got it already, so what's with Samsung and Malaysia..people get curious lol..why's the support so bad.

Official ROMs are 'mostly' stable in my opinion... many custom ROMs fix things that are missing or lacking in official ROMs... one that i can think of on top of my head now is the red spot issue on the camera... of course.. this is a GB example.
Why Malaysia slow ka? hahahahaha.... why Singapore faster ka? hahahaha.... best joke today mate!~ cheers!
Some like Pepsi, some like Coke, others like Pepsi Light, others like Diet Coke... who cares. Just use what you want. Others use what they want.
Erm... definitely agree to that tautological statement. that doesn't answer the question though..
Just asking why they prefer that official ROM, is there something about it that the custom ROMs don't provide or something? Curious, that's all... my guess is that probably the modem released is a Malaysian one... so it should give better signal or coverage... I think...

well he already answer to your question all is up to the user preference maybe we like on custom other prefer of official MY stock
Maybe some just use the smart phone for minor jobs like calls, music, movies, surfing, emails.. and the stock rom does it all. No need adjust toggles, or tweaks, so why get a custom rom with so many options that is TOO many to them.
I want a car to bring me from A to B safely: Volvo. I dont want a BMW that I can adjust my seat like this, like that, GPS, this fuction that function, system check this check that... too many icons to even remember. I just want to get in and DRIVE.

Hahaha... i get it man... no point saying people have opinions because OBVIOUSLY they do. it's about asking why they come to that opinion man... Like erm... I like diet coke because there's no sugar... or I like Pepsi cause Siti Nurhaliza is endorsing it...

I love the car example. Well, nice analogy there but a bit off when related to this ROM thing we're discussing about cause in my opinion, like CRRv6 (one of the most popular GB roms) for example is ALMOST EXACTLY like stock ROM... so in my opinion, there is little to no difference. unlike a Kancil vs. Ferrari which obviously is WAYYYY different.
Also, I was actually really asking cause I wanted to know what is it in the official ROM that is more attractive than custom ROMs, that's all... being that it's been a while since I used an official ROM or modem or kernel...
Not dissing in any means those who chose one or the other at all, don't get me wrong...
I'm sure nobody feeling offended. Humans needs to be different, think differently, but we MUST work TOGETHER, live together, etc... If we do not think and behave differently, then my god, I would like your mother like your father do, and I would also like your girlfriend like you do. Point is, we would all be going for the same thing/person/objects/preference, etc...
So my final attempt to answer your question is: Why do you like somone over another? Hard to say, and yet many small details (reasons) involved. Can be simple as: Cos I like her lo. Can also be very complicated: Cos every time she does this, she... when she do that, it makes me... 1,001 reasons.
Why someone like stock roms, maybe it is just attractive enough to them. Why custom roms: maybe it is just attractive to them as well. If only we can understand ourselves (humans), maybe we can have less war, maybe we would not cheat each other's money, cheat in relationships, make "black-heart burgers", maybe we can appreciate that we are different, maybe... just maybe one day we can work together as humans.

Something not related to S2, but need some opinions. I hv a 24 month contract with DG, and 3 supp lines under DG family prepaid. Out of the blue, about more than 2 weeks ago, DG suddenly changed the supp line plans without my request/agreement.
Now, my supp lines are being charges for calling/sms/mms me when they are supposed to be free. The prepaid amount in their account gone. No more auto-reload from my account into their account, thus they suddenly could not call out bcos over the reload period didn't top up.
Lots of problem. Made thousands of complaint. Everyone saying sorry but for the fact nothing is being done. How and what can I do to get back at DG? Cos WE are really PISSED.

go straight to an authorized digi center and start scolding, and demand immediate changes now or you'll go to the consumer association and lodge a complaint. stay at the shop, and make everyone else wait, jam the shop. this is their fault

Yes, agree with you. Done that and my blue bills are gone. So my advice, write a formal latter and in the latter just put "Saya tidak beragak untuk membuat aduan kepada Pusat Khidmat Aduan Pengguna Nasional(NCCC) atau Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia(SKMM) jika saya merasakan bahawa Celcom tidak jujur kepada pelanggan mereka." hehe
hah.. then the poor customer service at work will have a very bad day for being there, it isn't his / her fault. But I tend to believe it is their superior's fault. soldiers dont hv the power to decide how things should work, but the management does. They keep on insisting to investigate first, instead of correct their mistake first.
I said to them, if you ordered for chicken, the kitchen bring you fruit salad. After you hv complaint, they tell you they will investigate first, does that sound fair? And their investigation has dragged more than 2 weeks. So fOkc u DG!!

Whoah!!! more than two weeks then you escalate this already. Make sure they make a management escalation. We pay for their service and we are not getting it. So we have our rights.

Your SIM still can be use? Have u check ur sim with other phone?
We might have the same problem. My sim card also sometimes detected, sometimes not. If I put some pressure on the back, then my sim card is back. Better get samsung to check it out (hardware) before warranty is gone.

hi, is anyone using F1 Galaxy Nexus rom??? im facing some issue, sometimes my s2 hang and cannot wake up after pressing power button, i need to hold power button to get it reboot and back to life... i have flash 2 times and do all necessary wipe stuff, but the result still the same... anyone facing this problem???
and the notification bar, after u swipe down there should have stated telco name, but mine one stated no service although i can call up and have H+ signal...
guys need help here. recently i have been hearing complains from friends that unable to listen clearly what i say over the phone but i just bought the phone 2 months ago, so i exclude the possibility of being an technical issue.
On top of that i saw some "white thing" stuck in the bottom mic and of course I cant afford to just get something and dig it out (it might damage the mic?)
anyone face this problem and any pointers of solving this is most appreciated !

You guys know something funny ? The ICS update for GT-I9100 in Malaysia is available right now, besides for a while. But for some reason, not through Kies. You can update it by taking the phone to the Samsung service center. Where the heck is the service center ? And why ? I guess they're not releasing it because the ICS for GT-I9100G isn't ready yet.

hi all i want to find out is there any difference between the g and non-g versions of the phone? i know they are using different processors but what i want to know if i purchase right now does it matter which type i get?
You should post this in the official sgs2 forum. The g version has more probs than the non g.
All the good things you hear about s2 are the earlier non g version. G version tend to have more weird issues, hangs occasionally, and very little custom rom.
Buy a non g s2 and don't buy at all. Look for 2nd hand or ap sets. Or consider note or nexus.
antt00 on CM9 known issues it stated wifi direct as 1 of the known bugs. what exactly is wifi direct?
if you dunno then its not an issue. Wifi direct is allow you to transfer files between 2 devices using wifi. Of cos both device must support it in the first place.

Wifi direct is awesome man!
You should try it. Its like Bluetooth on steroids. Send files between supported device with wifi speed, talking about 1.5-2MBps.
Let's say you have 300+ pics or a 700MB movie, you can send to your friends s2, nexus, android tablet using wifi direct in less than 5 minutes. Cool stuff. It does not require both device to be connected to a router, can straight send, hence the name wifi direct.
One of the sad reasons why I don't use aokp aosp. Cos no wifi direct

You know something even more funny? You can get ics one 2 months ago in your house. Just download Odin, and the official firmware from xda, Its non wipe and won't add yellow triangle, won't ruin warantee.
If you bring to service center, I think they'll just do the same. They'll take ur phone, Plug your phone to their com, and flash away using Odin. Same procedure, why waste petrol go sc?

so wifi direct can only be done with another supported phone/tablet only? how about phone to PC and vise versa? do I need to get an app for it or its on the phone settings?

ACTUALLY hor, wifi direct, is just using wifi as a LAN, the receiver acts as a modem/router while the sender connects to the receiver and send files using wifi LAN speed.
so by using the same concept, it can be done between laptop and phone, just by using wifi or wifi hotspot to connect with the computer, which method(s) you can find in the first page
edit: ok, the first page none, you need to find back the old uncle benny's thread, this new one lack alot of guides
pc <connectify> phone pc <wifi hotspot>phone
wifi hotspot can use swiftp, wifi file manager, es file explorer or any file manager that supports Local Area Network, kies air, allshare

Wifi direct between phone and PC? I don't think possible la. You manage to do it? Using air droid, kies air or similar app is not consider wifidirec.
Wifi direct works even when both device is not connected to the router. Example, if me an my friend s2 on a bus, both not connected to wifi router. I can still send files using wifi direct.

yep, its possible you can use those apps even if you're not connected to a router/modem. for instance, the place where i worked a month ago does not have internet, so no router, so i use wifi hotspot, and my laptop connects to my phone. both are assigned an ip, and the phone acts as the router and client at the same time. if you i es file explorer in ur phone, the ip of my laptop appears and anything i shared in my laptop is accessible just like as if i;m using LAN at home. same case if i use swiftp and access my phone from my laptop, although the ip of my phone will not be displayed in swiftp if i use wifi hotspot, you can know your phone's ip if you look at the settings>wifi area. knowing that i just type in the ip in my laptop and i can access my phone, the ip is permanent and never changes so i could make a shortcut easily to access it.
of course all these is not actually wifi direct since wifi direct is actually a simplified process of all these.

nobody tried google DRIVE?

Google seems to have another disadvantage - you get to have the documents that you put on your Google Drive used by Google for any purpose the feel fit - see the terms of service: "When you upload or otherwise submit content to our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works(such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content. The rights you grant in this license are for the limited purpose of operating, promoting, and improving our Services, and to develop new ones"
But it's the official ICS for both Malaysia and Singapore... according to the explanation there... so for those who want the official ICS ROM for Malaysia/Singapore(most probably we share similar modems) then cheerios!

im using F1GalaxyNexus.. i never had such problems before. which build did u flashed? i recommend u to use N.E.A.K or Siyah kernel. try to download the kernel cleaning script 1st before flashing a new kernel.
im using the latest build F1 GalaxyNexus Build 4 (01-05-12).
the problem seems like after i restore my 4k+ plus sms & mms to my messenger then the telco name change to 'No Service'.
bro is there any link for the kernel cleaning script stuff???
Hi, I have a small issue with the android browser.
I was checking out the setting for stock sms messaging, and I somehow applied the Configuration messages > "install", that messed up the stock browser default page setting. The stock browser Setting>General>Set home page>Default page is now changed to "m.thecube.my" by celcom.
May I know how to change the "Setting>General>Set home page>Default page" back to the ori google www.google.com ?

wow 4k+ sms??! why do u need to store that amount of smses? about that telco name, im not sure about it. it's better u post it in the XDA forum. (just click my siggy). and u should try re-flash it and dont restore ur sms. maybe try not to restore ALL of them. on top of that, u can flash N.E.A.K or Siyah kernel after re-flashing F1GNex. make sure u use the script 1st then only u flash the kernel.
Notice there is are super rom & superatmos kernel. whats the diff between these 2 ? I managed to do the superatmos thingy using Odin to fix my camera failed issue but still got the issue so do I have to do the superrom 3.0 thing ? BTW mine is S2 G version

need help guys. flashed my phone to CM9 from CheckROM just now, but all my apps are gone. any way to restore them?
Did you backup? via Titanium Backup or other backup apps? If no then I think chances are less for you to get back lol. Or you can go Google Play to see all installed apps and redownload them.

Go to TB itself, press menu button, hit batch, then restore all apps with data. I think I miss a step there but you play around with it, you should find batch restore.

thanks guys. did the restoration process usually took some time? because now the process is running for almost 10 minutes, but still 0%
I don't know but some ICS ROM's have SD card issue, maybe try to remove SD card and restore again. Or restart the app or reboot the phone, just to be safe
TB keep displaying the warning about unknown sources thingy eventhough i've changed the setting
and what does 'batch restore interrupted by user' error means?

after you restore, the sms will only appear after your restart, same case with all 'green' coloured datas in TB. but i dont suggest this method bcoz you are restoring system data across android versions. which could be why your telco having errors. i dont know how to fix it but i ccan suggest you to backup sms using go sms next time, it will work for the stock sms also.

Samsung Malaysia has made available the OFFICIAL ICS UPDATE already, BUT you got to BRING IN your set to SAMSUNG SERVICE CENTRE for the update, it is NOT available in KIES for some technical reason.
To make it much clearer there NO update available yet for 'G' version.

Just sharing.. i'm not sure if you all realise, that Samsung provide a build in app inside the phone that function the same as seekdroid, to detect, wipe out, or fully lock our lost phone..
Not sure, if it pop's up after the ICS update.. But the function is in setting > security > SamsungDive web page
But yeah, it's kinda auwsome, kinda testing it out now

Is Waze better than the Google Map Direction in the browser?
What do you mean that the Google Navigation doesn't support Malaysia yet unless the phone is rooted? If I root my phone, I can use it?
Is the Google Navigation similar to Google Direction?
Well when you open google navigation an error would pop up, saying that it doesn't support in Malaysia yet..
Yeah, replacing the map.. You can check out the tutorial at XDA. Plus if i root the phone, it may affect the warranty.. So not planning to do so till i get my second android phone coming up in the future.
Waze is quite ok to me, as it would detect the best route, and jam location in Malaysia when others share it. and place you wanna search would actually integrate not only by waze or google, but also foursquare. So you can detect most places using it
Overall for free navigation in Malaysia, i'll say waze is the best..
You sure the location is correct? If TB show 0 apps means there is no backups in the folder.
i'm pretty sure mate coz i perform the back up file detection check on my device and it got two folders; 1 in my sdcard and 1 in my external card. but none have my apps.
i even tried to back up my current apps and tried to reload it. still it shows 0.
edit: finally got it. i reinstall TB from app store. i tried to reinstall before but didn't work. now its ok!!!
I found a website that lists all the best ones for each style; T9, Swype etc.
Added on May 15, 2012, 6:12 pmDoes Google Map use up a lot of data?
Sometimes I really need to use the Google Map Direction.
How come the google map in browser is not so polished like the one in our computer browser?
i suggest Sygic.. malaysian turn-by-turn voice navigation, and it's offline.. u just need to turn ur GPS, and turn the Data off can use also.. paid a little but very good.. version latest is 11.2.6 but a lot of cracked 11.2.5 out there; use with care lah.. support the developer lah..

yeah, wipe thru odin and it will wipe your current data. so back up back up back up!!
Eh im confused. Will flashing it wipe my data+apps or it wont wipe my data?I read at the xda thread it wont wipe the data.
is this a official firmware? i tried it before and it wipe everything including my IMEI details. so to be on the save side, just back up all your data. you never know what will happen.

I can clarify that downloading from the 1st link wont wipe your data or apps. Just flashed it few mins ago and everything is intact.Cool
Guys, after upgraded to ICS 4.0.3, the official rom for MY.
KIES don't seem to able to communicate with my device, I can't restore back all my contacts, sms, memos, calender and call log. I can sure that KIES and my SGS2 is connected or not...
Plus the Basic Information page on KIES doesn't show the firmware I'm using now too.

Very much appreciated....
if its so important, you should backup using sms backup instead of kies..kies backup intend to fail during restore. I dont mine last time, but now never backup using kies anymore. using apps like sms backup.fast and confirm can restore. even call logs also can backup using another apps from same developer..

OMG, all the while I'm using KIES to do all my backup. My most important data are Contacts, SMS, Call Log and Memo....
Please tell me there is another way to retrieve back those backup data from KIES by using others apps, otherwise I will be in nightmare....
i suggest Sygic.. malaysian turn-by-turn voice navigation, and it's offline.. u just need to turn ur GPS, and turn the Data off can use also.. paid a little but very good.. version latest is 11.2.6 but a lot of cracked 11.2.5 out there; use with care lah.. support the developer lah.. google nav doesnt need any root..
Thanks a lot!

Here are some of the screenshots of the problem I'm facing during restoring my data from KIES after upgraded to ICS...
The 3rd pic shows that my SGS2 is connected, but KIES doesn't shows any info of firmware I'm using...
Whats wrong here? With KIES or the setting of my SGS2? Or perhaps thats a way to retrieve back those backup data from KIES using others softwares / apps?
happen to me before. i was so pissed off. my backup file was about 1gb i think, it keep restore faill
after my accident, i did a experiment. i backup just my contact only, it was very fast, since contact is so small file size. then try to restore, it says restore fail. useless piece of junk software, cant even do simple thing.
luckily contacts are sync to google contacts, my sms are gone too, but luckily i got do titanium backup, when restore hancent sms app, it restored all my sms also. haha

contacts- sync with your google mail. sms/call log - sms/log backup apps memo and other stuff - MyBackup app (for non root), titanium backup (for root phone)
i dont think any way to restore back your backup, only by kies itself. so prepare to face your nightmare..
always perform backup (not using kies) before upgrade software.

Usually upgrade through kies is a non wipe. SC uses other methods I guess
Officially only for China at the moment. For customs, CM9 is currently progressing well using the China ICS leak but would need a better bootloader which is why dev is waiting for a euro ICS leak 1st then they will release CM9

Hurry up guys with SME sets, go for the update.
I'm glad I follow this post along the way...
Is this the same ICS ROM from Singapore posted in XDA forum? What time will the SC operating? Do I need to bring anything extra for updating the ROM? (As I remembered, I don't have warranty card inbox) Thanks for any advice.

Sorry for the noob question, I'm new to flashing custom ROM. I tried flashing Darky ICS ROM and VK ICS ROM recently and after flashing, I couldn't get the phone to register to my mobile network. The phone won't logon to the mobile network automatically and when I did a manual search and logon, it said "unable to connect". Anybody can help m on this?

I thought APN is related to data only, no? My problem is, I can't even make and receive voice call bacause I can't even logon on to the mobile network.
i got suggestion but its up to you guys to try. at xda forums you can find all the csc for sgs2, try to find a malaysian csc and flash that with odin under csc tab. i flashed csc before and it should be safe

Sorry mate. I'm not bashing the G version here. But its just an advice. If g version users are offended by my comments, i would like to apologize to you all.
For those people who still have problem with G version, please try these actions: 1. Settings > Location > untick Use Wireless Network 2. Uninstall the updates of Adore Flash Player. Use the default version. 3. Use another good web browser (not sure about this, but I am certain that original browser is buggy and is the cause)
I have done the first and second steps two weeks ago. Now I didn't face hang issue or camera fc issues. Current using original browser and sometimes it hangs and, if lucky, a fc massage will pop out.
AND, I am quite hate those people who felt like, all problems only comes from G version, blah blah blah...
Edit: Please don't let your phone suffer with those useless apps too. Those people who use pirated apps and markets please, STOP!

regardless. non G still better. no need to do step 1,2,3 can use memory card, camera NEVER hangs, in fact, the phone NEVER EVER hang. apps do force close very rarely, but the phone never hangs. there'll never be a need to plug out your battery.
not that i support pirated apps. but pirated apps doesnt cause any problem or performance or hang issue or s2 non g. my cousin's S2 non G practically full of cracked games, no hang or lag also. whereas my friend's S2 G stock unrooted, also will hang. whole phone jam and not responding kind of hang, need plug out battery.
for existing G users, if you guys not happy with the comments, think, if you are offered a chance to change to non g for free, you will obviously take it no? instantly lots of ics custom roms to try out. no more hanging issues what so ever. you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. is there any strong points that g has over non g? so dont persuade new users to buy the g version one, or keep insisting the g version is same as non g. its not.
Need you guys' help. May I know what is the baseband/ CSC version for those who update their ICS through Samsung SC? I need to compare if they are using the same version as provided by one of the xda-forumer. Hope that someone is kind enough to help. Thank you.
I'm using samsung galaxy S2, i9100g .. I was putting the new update on and Odin was doing its thing. it went black now I got the stupid screen of a phone picture, a yellow warning triangle, and a computer. I know my phone is hardware locked what can I do? I rooted it with the one click root but no rom was installed. There's something like picture below...
I had visit a lot of forum and do the instruction, but my phone still can't be open, can't had reset, can't download mode.. also buy usb jig ... and can't do anything...anyone help me, and im very thankful...

+1 i completely agree what you have to say, rather have ppl get i9100 than later coming here complaining non-stop about the hang and all, dont want another positron to appear

What do you mean by new update? looks like you flash non g room on your g set.
I was using HTC Desire, can i transfer all my apps which installed in MMC to S2 by plugging in the MMC?
Or i need to re-install it all over again?
It will not be detected. Even if you install to SD, there are some files left in the phone to tell the system that this app/game is installed. If you use TB, then you can restore your backuped app. Otherwise you need to reinstall.

Meaning tat i have to install TB @ Desire & S2 to fully backup all the data?
But my device is un-root. Free version can do tat too?
