Thanks bro, so I will download the Siyah v2.99 to use first...
Hopefully the CheckROM ICS will be arrive soon.

I was also like you... very religiously at CRRv6. In fact, still have it backed up on my device..

Have been running Wanamlite V11.5 and Siyah3.2 for about 5 days now.... looks like I'll be more than happy to switch.

What is it in CRRv6 that is missing in Wanam?

well... I'm not really missing Jkay after all.. I thought I would... but looks like ICS has grown into me... the things that I like:

1. Screen seems more vivid to me... I'm not sure if it's just me, but the overall look of the screen, homepage, and pictures look a tad brighter and vivid.

2. transitions are smoother and definitely fluid. Not that GB was shabby... but this just feels a tad smoother.

3. Gotta love that recent apps and swipe away notifications function. Very sleek.

4. Starting to really like Chrome Beta. I was so STUCK with the GB browser and would be caught dead using another browser... but chrome is really getting smooth now.. and the font re-sizing and readability is way better than that in the stock browser..

5. I know quadrant has been spat at many times here and there.. but just gave it a quick run... numbers shot up extensively... from an average 3600++ went up to an average of 4100++

CRR was fantabulous.. but looks like it's just a logical step to move on to ICS...

2 cents

Chrome is insane =p

Ok that's overstating it, but I really like Chrome. Especially ability to sync across platforms. I only use Chrome as browser now. All the searches and what nots I've typed syncs (I rarely memorize web pages, and I don't browse thru xda just to get where I want, so I google keywords), can even see previous sessions open. So I pick up my browsing right where I left off. Sometimes when I get lazy, I stop browsing on the desktop and move to my phone with my bed. Continues browsing seamlessly biggrin.gif

And would proly try Wana and what nots once off this days. I know benchmark isn't much, but moving from CR to AOSP has decreased my points laugh.gif
*
True.

SOmetimes, the seamless syncing will be enough to buy people over. I too enjoy that very much and not needing to update my bookmarks on each device because they sync seamlessly when I update it on just 1 device.

I like the card tabs though.. really reminds me of webOS...

Wanam is ok. Very simple and doesn't really add much. If you like something very close to stock experience, then Wanam is the way to go. Very TW

Ah abit addicted to the whole stock google experience for now laugh.gif

Does it remove alot of samsung bloatware? I know I can do that myself, but do prefer when ROMs remove it, helps with my laziness
*
yes. removed completely. there is a zip file to reinstall them if you wish. by default it's removed... hmm... i thought most of the ICS custom roms did that?

A lot of people asking about Sammie update for ICS in Malaysia...

Is there a real reason why you're waiting specifically for it since we can already test drive other ROMs? Especially those non-G users... I'm really interested in knowing why is there an anxious wait for ICS malaysia when most of us have already jumped shipped using custom roms...

When I was in GB, I didn't bother about the Malaysian GB modem even.. if that's what we're all waiting for that is...

Well for me, I've used custom roms and they're good. But not everyone uses custom stuff. And the official one is always the most stable..well, only for Samsung I assume. The official 4.0.3 for Xperia Arc S almost destroys the phone.
The biggest thing is, all the neighbouring countries got it already, so what's with Samsung and Malaysia..people get curious lol..why's the support so bad.
*
Official ROMs are 'mostly' stable in my opinion... many custom ROMs fix things that are missing or lacking in official ROMs... one that i can think of on top of my head now is the red spot issue on the camera... of course.. this is a GB example.

Why Malaysia slow ka? hahahahaha.... why Singapore faster ka? hahahaha.... best joke today mate!~ cheers!

Some like Pepsi, some like Coke, others like Pepsi Light, others like Diet Coke... who cares. Just use what you want. Others use what they want.
*
Erm... definitely agree to that tautological statement. that doesn't answer the question though..

Just asking why they prefer that official ROM, is there something about it that the custom ROMs don't provide or something? Curious, that's all... my guess is that probably the modem released is a Malaysian one... so it should give better signal or coverage... I think...

well he already answer to your question
all is up to the user preference
maybe we like on custom other prefer of official MY stock
*
Hahaha... i get it man... no point saying people have opinions because OBVIOUSLY they do. it's about asking why they come to that opinion man... Like erm... I like diet coke because there's no sugar... or I like Pepsi cause Siti Nurhaliza is endorsing it... tongue.gif

Maybe some just use the smart phone for minor jobs like calls, music, movies, surfing, emails.. and the stock rom does it all. No need adjust toggles, or tweaks, so why get a custom rom with so many options that is TOO many to them.

I want a car to bring me from A to B safely: Volvo.
I dont want a BMW that I can adjust my seat like this, like that, GPS, this fuction that function, system check this check that... too many icons to even remember. I just want to get in and DRIVE.
*
I love the car example. Well, nice analogy there but a bit off when related to this ROM thing we're discussing about cause in my opinion, like CRRv6 (one of the most popular GB roms) for example is ALMOST EXACTLY like stock ROM... so in my opinion, there is little to no difference. unlike a Kancil vs. Ferrari which obviously is WAYYYY different.

Also, I was actually really asking cause I wanted to know what is it in the official ROM that is more attractive than custom ROMs, that's all... being that it's been a while since I used an official ROM or modem or kernel...

Not dissing in any means those who chose one or the other at all, don't get me wrong...

I was assuming that much... well... won't deter me from using chrome though... the overall interface and speedy loading is just too awesome... I guess I'll have to stick with mobile web pages for a bit....

S'pore is DXLP9.
*
I heard... well, there ain't DXLP9 there...

But it's the official ICS for both Malaysia and Singapore... according to the explanation there... so for those who want the official ICS ROM for Malaysia/Singapore(most probably we share similar modems) then cheerios!

Might test it out myself!

After I get bored of Wanam that is... smile.gif

Dear Fellow SGS2 Users,

Samsung Malaysia has made available the OFFICIAL ICS UPDATE already, BUT you got to BRING IN your set to SAMSUNG SERVICE CENTRE for the update, it is NOT available in KIES for some technical reason.

To make it much clearer there NO update available yet for 'G' version.

The update is great......... Have fun..... SGS-2 is a great great phone...

would that be the dxlp7 or 9?

Maybe we should sticky the method of updating to official ICS via SC and XDA to make things easier for newer users

Hey guys, would doing this procedure wipe the data in my sd card? I.e: pictures or docs

Going to cwm>mounts & storage>format system

In other words, lets say i feel like something is wrong with the rom that i'm currently using, is it fair enough to say that i should just wipe my cache, dalvik, and then go to the above procedure to format system to reinstall back a rom? im just wondering also about it wiping my sd card files cause me back up is in the sd card instead of an external sd card.

Nope..
It'll just wipe the /System/ folder

While ur docs are in /mnt/sdcard/
This folder wont be wiped unless u choose Wipe Drive (:

usually what i do is,
- Wipe System
- Wipe Data
- Wipe Cache
- Wipe Dalvik Cache

THanks bro for your explanation. I think I get the idea now..

So, my situation is I'm on Wanamlite 11.5 now... very happy with this shy of some buggy things which is related to me not formatting the system cause what I did when I moved on to Wanam11.5 from CRRv6 was,

- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache
- Wipe Dalvik
- Install Wanamlite11.5 from internal SD card.

So, I'm afraid that (stupidly careless) misstep of NOT formatting system could be the cause of some minor bugs here and there. So, let's say I wanna install Wanamlite 11.5 again without having to set up everything again and install all the apps again is:

- Wipe System
- Wipe Cache
- Wipe Dalvik
- Install Wanamlite 11.5 from internal SD card.

Or should i do the factory reset again? I actually don't mind doing it... but if skipping this step would save me time from setting everything up again of course would be much welcomed... should I still wipe data/factory reset?

You should do a proper 'wipe' before installing a full-wipe ROM..

Go to clockwork mode recovery. Volume up, power button, and home button all pressed together for a couple of seconds

Go to mounts and storage and select it.

Go to format / system and select it. Scroll down to format system and select yes.

Go to format / data and select it Scroll down to format data and select yes.

Go to format / cache and select it. Scroll down to format cache and select yes.

That's it no need to format or wipe anything else, when you install the rom it will clear the dalvik, cache, and batt stats, just go back and install the rom from the internal or external sd card.

IC.... sorry for being such a pain yeah... but just to reconfirm again...

It will not wipe my files in the internal SD card right?
