I'd suggest slow digesting proteins. Keeping your body in a positive nitrogen balance is a priority.

Fasting for the first day or ramadhan and the last day... It is impossible to keep your gain in fasting month. Call it a rest month..

unless you're competing or something like that, i think there'll be not much of a problem to working out...fasting won't nullify your workout progress...just drink a lot of milk or as darklight mentioned, slow digesting proteins...

My plan on puasa is to drink enough milk, eat low GI carb and eat Nasi lemak / peanuts. Well balanced diet. BTW i don't how much milk to drink for for a 14-15 hours fasting so can try to maintain muscle mass.

easier said than done bro. for ppl who want to cut, there's no problem.
we have only few hours to eat, solat terawih, train, sex and sleep, ALL in the night time.

lets say breakfast at 7PM.

train at 8PM? tk semayang boleh la...hahaha blush.gif

you binge a lot on breakfast, you can hardly train.

let talk about meal.

1) breakfast (also pre-wo)
2) post workout
3) maybe can stuff one more meal before bed time
4) sahur

got 4 meal max, and without 8 hours sleep whistling.gif

Slow digestive protiens, like cassien helps like what DL79 said. Drink full-cream milk? or eat more good-fatty foods.. It could work.

it's not that easy to have muscle loss bro...unless you're very active on the daytime, and have low bodyfat...just make sure you input proper meals @ break fast and sahur...

Well generally Lipo6 contains heaps of caffeine, therefore it naturally dehydrates you. So yes it might give you a dehydrated effect, dry lips etc.

i did check ON Pro Complex but the price had me think twice. hahahaha. wondering. if i  take this during puasa without workout. no point juga. hahahah. dilemma tongue.gif

from my experiences during last fasting months, impossible to bulk during this period. well if u do know how, share here tongue.gif
the idea of high calories gainer and sustained released protein is to provide body enough calories and steady flow of amino acids throughout the day.
Of course cant last the whole day since we're fasting but at least suspend the time until our body break down our precious muscle into amino acids.

if you have just whey, mix it with wholemilk during sahur, and have complex carbs also.

buka puasa depends on your workout schedule-lah, if you workout b4 buka puasa, have whey then. IF you want workout AFTER tarawih, then its a good idea to have a lil bit of simple carbs (air manis, kurma) and a mixture of complex carbs with protein. Do not have too many simple carbs as insulin spike may leave you fatigue and tidor la lepas tu.... blush.gif

if you have pre-workout drinks (NoXPlode, SuperpUmp, FastTwitch) drink it immediately b4 eating your meal for buka. Its because it will provide energy for your workout later. Saves your money no need to buy that cincau drinks eh?

Training cut to 60-70 RM cukup la. For me Ramadhan target is to preserve strentgh and size as much as possible.

ps: i think ill post this in H&F also la tongue.gif
ps2: its was in my sales thread, of course has some sales intentions whistling.gif

heh, can't wait to puasa esok. Maybe I try to eat low carb high fat high protein for my sahur. This to prevent my insulin to spike too much and may cause fatique during the day. Then when buka, eat all you can. then workout hard 1.30 - 2 hours after eat. Woot, sure gain muscle, la la la

Interesting stuff here la, always wondered how others approached fasting/training during ramadhan.

I have a habit of eating only bout twice a day during puasa time, buka time and b4 sleeping, and habits break hard. I'd workout shortly b4 buka puasa, so can get back home and down some whey b4 addressing my juadah buka puasa.

Training intensity is reduced in terms of weights lifted. Cardio also cut down - waiting for buka puasa with parched throat gets annoying. I've never really thought of slow digesting proteins as yet, seems worth a try.

My plan is , sahur with brown rice + weight gainer + whey + few cups of water..
Then buka with Glucolin, whey + chicken or steak+ creatine, then workout.
post workout whey+ brown rice with steak or chicken .then weightgainer + creatine before sleep.
okay or not? in between the meals,there will be peanuts, peanut butter.depends on my stomach. will i lose weight? hope this diet can reach 3000cal.

better change to less taxing routine.

just a portion of milk and water.
creatine can lead to dehydration, my opinion better take post-wo, so youll have plenty of time to drink water back.

good luck guys on your fasting. smile.gif

as for me, in preparation for Ramadhan, i've started Stronglift and DP cutting diet.My reasoning is simple:
1) Stronglift allows me to workout for less than 1 hr, while hitting almost all of my muscle. Target for Ramadhan is to improve strength while cutting, while muscle building will be my lesser priority at this period.
2) In keto, i believe it allows me to preserve as much muscle as possible in a glycogen depleted state.

Instead of this:
Protein --> Gluconeogenic amino acids --> Glucose --> Glycogen

I would prefer something like this:
Triglycerides --> Glycerol --> Glucose --> Glycogen smile.gif

Happy fasting,guys..smile.gif

you didnt read the link that bata posted sweat.gif

Ramadan & StrongLifts 5×5. Training fasted works if you eat well during the feeding window. Thirst can be a problem if you’re used to drinking a lot or if it’s warm. Best is to cut down your workout time. Tips:

* Train Fasted. Train 2 hours before breaking your fast. This way you can eat several meals post workout to help your recovery.
* Switch to 3×5. Do 3×5 instead of 5×5 on all exercises (Deadlift 1×5). Keep doing the StrongLifts 5×5 routine 3x/week.
* Drop The Assistance Exercises. Do Squats, Deadlifts, Overhead Press, Bench Press, Inverted Rows only during the Ramadan period.

my idea is for sahur have musclemilk 1 scoop with scivation whey 1 scoop with low fat milk and also l-glutamine
that could do the trick for my body caloric intake, assist in delaying the protein breakdowns and have healthy fats at the same time

and since workout i plan to buat lepas bukak puasa (terawih malam kat rumah b4 tido sudah) creatine ambik pre and post workout while the last glutamine ambik right before tido ngan ribena ke ape ke

as long as you are working out and meeting some sort of caloric minimum, you won't lose muscle bro...it's not that easy to lose muscle too...not necessarily need to take 6 meals to achieve that...

this fasting month is the best ever for me so far.didn't feel lethargic during the day, and still can do my LSD ~45 minutes before buka. smile.gif

in terms of weightlifting, still can increase the poundage in every workout(i'm on stronglift btw).exercising 3 days per week, and HIIT on saturday night.so far so good.

meal consumption 4 on non-workout days(7.30,11.30,3,5.15(shake)),5 on workout days(7.30,10(shake),12.30,3.30 and 5.15(shake)).glad i switched to anabolic diet just in time for ramadhan. smile.gif

wow,how i wish creatine could save my muscles during ramadhan.

theory number 1 : ramadhan = shrink

theory number 2 : reduce shrinking by eating clean and small portions of high carb + protein + fat and train moderately. no bazaar food,they are all sampah to your body.

theory number 3 : within 2 weeks AFTER hari raya(provided you train consistently and have a perfect diet), you will get back what ever you've lost during ramadhan(muscle memory)

theory number 4 : if some bodybuilder or amature tells you that he lost nothing during ramadhan, it is most probably because he turned day into night , night into day, which is not exactly what we should be doing during the holy month.
most of my muslim bodybuilder friends do not fast, fear of losing muscle.

3 weeks of ramadhan, ive lost almost 3kg and measured my entire body,shrunk quite abit..

the idea is to be smart during ramadhan, understand the balance of calorie intake and your calorie expense..and unlimited amouont of water during sahur please..

goodluck..selamat hari raya

i dont know if this is the right section to post up. and not my intention to bring the old post. afraid if open new thread, mod will delete it and ask me to search related thread. so easy if i post it here.

As Ramadhan will start tomorrow, here i would like to share my meal and workout plan.

4.00am - 5.00am -> Meal (450 cal) + gainers (650 cal) + breads (300 cal) = 1400 cal

6.00am - 7.30pm - [fasting]

7.45pm - 8.00pm -> Meal (600 cal) + Protein shake (120 cal) [pre workout] = 720 cal

9.30pm - 10.30pm - [workout]

11.00pm - 11.30pm -> Meal (450 cal) + breads (300 cal) + protein shake (120 cal) [pos workout] = 870 cal

12.30am -> gainer (650 cal) = 650 cal

------------------------------- sleep---------------------------------------

total calories intake per day roughly = 3640 cal / 120g protein

* calories for Meal is only for reference. biggrin.gif

is it enough to maintain body weight or increase it?

You should fast, then take around 10grams of BCAA pre workout, train, then eat 2 meals after that. The more post workout meals the better.

imo workout like a beast stepping up intensity for a month or two before the fast, 3 weeks before fast start de-loading.

during fast let your body rest and occasionally lift 1-2 a week full body compound exercises with moderate weights ,moderate sets/reps.

lets face it, if you are going to fast you will be losing muscle mass. there's no way around it. dont stress out too much on that though, if you're fasting then your reasons are greater than the physical body rite? smile.gif

just let your body detox and come back strong after the fast, if you've been training and eating with high intensity it should give your body a well deserved rest and detox.

What about treating the fasting month as a month of intermittent fasting, which it kind is in a way if you think about it. I mean, so long as you manage to at least consume enough calories for maintenance during the "feeding window", your gains won't take that big a hit, amirite? The only problem I see would be dehydration if one trains during the day since you can't get any fluids in. If you train at night then that's ok. I'm not a Muslim, nor do I fast on purpose, just my thoughts.

intermittent fasting has been the hot topic of many youtube fitness channels recently. its a pretty interesting approach, however it allows for consumption of fluids throughout the fast unlike ramadhan fasting so i dont know if the same concepts can be applied.

Not too sure if the body would react the same way towards the calories put in during that 'window' if the body is dehydrated.

This is a very good suggestion and this is what I will don since I've always done IF. But, to try whether it is better to stop working out or continue with some modification to the diet and workout, I will put myself on an experiment. I'll fast early biggrin.gif

How much gain? A lot, if you didn't control your diet. You have to adjust your calorie maintenance and eat accordingly. If not, your strength will diminished, your muscle will becomes smaller as what just happened to me cry.gif

I don't think you guys should be stopping workoutt altogether. Suree I guess its hard to fast but after u buka puasa u should have ample time to get a workout in. All you need is 45mins if you're just aiming to maintain.

Probably reduce to twice a week workout or something.

Regarding muscle loss I don't think you would lose much provided you got your maintenance calories in during buka puasa. IF has been ptoven to work so I don't see how different it will be in this case.

I will focus on strength training on ramadhan because it require less volume. I will workout less than 1 hour workout after buka puasa or tarawih.

Nasib baik gym tutup pukul 12.

Donot worry too much. Treat this as cutting phase

the guy's genetic is something else...so... blush.gif

for fasting month

if i dont train = for sure lose 5kg onwards.
if i train = 3kg-5kg

its fasting month so i cut the reps to 3-5x only so i can use the same weights i use on non-fasting month.
other people might prefer to use higher reps, less weights.

See which one suits yourself.

calsories in VS calories out. some articles say eating frequent is overrated, in the end calories that matters.

we are limited to only few meals from buka till sahur, high calories meal and gainers can help to make up the calories.

For me, i'll try to push my self to gym like normal days. Just change the timing. Workout an hour before 'buka puasa'. Straight away eat my post wo meal after that. Will try to up or maintain the weight but less rep. Cant stop now, still far from my goal.

p/s: dont let Ramadhan/fasting month be your obstacle. See it as a challenge. Yeahh!! biggrin.gif

Since my breaktime is cut short to 30 minutes and I'm obliged to help my father with his business during Ramadhan, I'm seeing extreme jump rope, push ups and dip sessions. huhuhu.

Not sure if I can make time for pull ups, but I've seen more possibilities than ever.

One of the times of the year where I'm really glad I can workout at home. Going to workout around 11-12ish during Ramadhan, should have sufficient time to get a couple of meals in before dawn.

You can definitely take some supplements to maintain your daily nutrition throughout the bulan puasa.

Some mass gainer supplements may help you in this. smile.gif

This would be the best time to try Intermittent Fasting if you are looking to cut. 16 hours of fasting is far more longer than Ramadhan fasting but you can't drink water so fasting would be much harder.

I would say it's better to workout before iftar rather than after sahur. You're gonna need to rehydrate after working out. If you workout after sahur, that's many long hours before you can have a drink

Just come across this today... However I guess most guys here have more in-depth details as how to handle the fasting month. Whether cut or "bulk", both can be done during the Bulan Ramadhan.

Anyway here it goes: http://my.news.yahoo.com/blogs/fit-to-post...-021254651.html
