Sad to say Malaysian home theater difficult to compete with overseas.Earning power less and to add to the injury since this is rich man's entertainment our government cannot resist taking a big slice of tax out of this industry. Now only rich uncles can afford this hobby and very little rich uncles visit online forums tongue.gif

Hm hijack thread. blush.gif Tumpang tanya, how do you connect from PC to a 5.1 amplifier (I'm having a Panasonic SC-HT995 in mind). I'm confused about the cabling. On the PC soundcard the output is SPDIF. Then connect it to the amp... will it be 5.1 or just stereo ? Sorry i'm really noob at this. sweat.gif

I am honoured that you want to see my setup. However I am still working out my Home Theatre layout with the designer, I am still not satisfied with her latest submission. She did not incorporate a lot of the ideas that I gave her.... after all its my AV room right and it should be what I want. Sumtimes, dun understand these designers, those very artistice ones are really egoistic. She is redoing the design now.

I'll post a pic of my barebones AV room. This will serve as a before and after caselah.
Attached Image

I promise to post a pic of my completed AV room.....or maybe start a build diary for everyone's benefit.... Hows that sound?

(BTW shipal, not that I am a sifu or want to be one nor a shopowner.... But what are you trying to imply here?)

Chill dude,

First off not everybody wants their living/HT room exposed to de world. Also as sum of you already commented this is a braggin thread, so sum dont like to brag...

Oh ya, just to clear de misconception a 720p Pj isnt exactly hi end - if you are talking ringgit here, than I guess you can compare to a 42in lcd but not top of de line even , a 2nd liner maybe...

For us to share some views and comments is good enuff, I think, no need for me to prove to you or anyone else dat I really own wat I say...

This is my view only, of cos ... others may have other opinions thou'

Cheers and have a nice day

IMO, for designing ur HT room, i suggest u design it urself (do some research on the net and magazines to seek some ideas) and pay for the construction, which mean u are the architect for the project. Just my 2 sen.

So observant, its from the Hell Freezes Over DVD, but the song that is being played when I took the pix is I Can't Tell You Why, sung by Timothy B. Shmidt. I like the guitar work by Don Felder

htkaki, bro dirtrun has given us a writeup in the Home Theater Projector discussion thread. Have a look there.

Get a proper screen, the results will be much more satisfying.

Proof we don't need bigarse screens and a 15425.1 speaker setup to enjoy our movies and music.

From my experience, painted Blackout looks better than screen, but now with a proper screen my pictures pop out with more colour accuracy than before.

higher gain, brighter picture, lower gain, dimmer.

a gain of 1-1.5 is best, brighter and hotspots as well as sparklies will be evident.

Means .. slightly dimmed room ...should stick with higher gain??
hmm...maybe tonite share more pic with u guys..duno if the speakers arrangement are ok..

QUOTE(psp _BOY @ May 9 2008, 01:08 PM)
higher gain, brighter picture, lower gain, dimmer.

a gain of 1-1.5 is best, brighter and hotspots as well as sparklies will be evident.

from what i know , grey screen produce better contrast - probably right. use mostly in ambient light room.

if watching movie- some like to have white colour due to crisp colour as per 35mm film. there's also a talk about reflective and superwash which i dont understand about it in AVS forum. this has something to do with light emission when refelected on the screen.

the gain measurement also very important. i still need to read more.

Grey screens are slightly better than white material, Gray screens are often called high contrast screens because can boost contrast in rooms which aren't completely dark, like with ambient light. The gray screen absorbs ambient light that is around better than a white screen does. Doing this, the black level on the screen is maintained.

SmX sells a grey screen with 0.9 gain, it's picture quality is slightly better than mine, if you can sacrifice screen size, but if u have a bright projector, that's the better of the 2.

I personally just take the 1.16 gain because I feel it would be needed if one day my projector turns half-brightness. Even if I'm getting a light cannon (Sim2, Digital Projection) You can always appreciate the extra brightness, since these high-end projector already pack mean contrast and punch needed.

Something to do with colors. Just like photography, gray card is neutral for white balancing.

In Malaysia, the Draper distributor does not import much matt white screen. Mostly HC Gray screen. Mine is Draper Luma 92" pull down screen in HC Gray. So far so good as my room aint totally dark. Unless at night.

Difference between 1080i or 720p, best be seen using test pattterns. If use movie images, very subjective.

just tumpang tanya...I am thinking if can set up a HT room with the automation system, whereby when i want to watch movie, i just press 1 button on the switch(let say movie time button) it will help me to dim down the light, roll down my screen, and then roll down my roller blind curtain, on my projector, on my AV equipment, on the air con....everything done auto just with 1 button press.

then after finish the show want to leave the HT room, i press another button, it will roll up the screen, on the light, off the projector and tv and also the other AV equipment. then after i leave the room for 5 minutes, it will turn the light off as well.

wondering if anyone have this kind of set up for their HT room?sound very high tech ho?is it possible to be done?

Go and for look for AV Design. If not mistaken, they could help you on this. There are some forummers in avsforum that have similar remote. However, prepare to fork out at least a few K for a simple one.

My Home Theater setup ( No Pics included .... YET. May have pics next week )

HDTV: Sharp Aquos 42'' A63M 1080p LCD monitor with a 1920x1600 Native resolution.

AV Receiver/Amplifier: Yamaha RX-V663

Networking Device: Aztech 200mbps HL109E Homeplug. This is a ethernet over power line to connect my media streamer to my pc upstairs without having to use a long ugly ethernet cable all the way to the stairs.

Source Device 1: Popcorn Hour Media Extender ( It supports many formats such as MKV, H264, AVI, XVID, Mpeg2, Mpeg 4. I can pass through DTS to my receiver to decode to get DTS support biggrin.gif And FLAC seems to work after letting my receiver handle audio processes )

Source Device 2: PS3 ( For Blue Ray games, or to watch Blue Ray movies. However i most likely will not be buying blueray movies as i can download for free online and stream over my popcorn. This is why i will not be using a DVD player for my home theater as all my media are digital format nod.gif )

Source Device 3: Astro ( Just to watch CNN only shakehead.gif until they hop on the 720p bandwagon )

Front Left/Right speakers = MA BR5

Center speakers: BR-LCR

Surround speakers: UNDECIDED whether it will be BR-FX OR BR1

Sub woofer: Using my old Creative Gigaworks S750 instead of the BRW-10 because not enough money to buy it

em...now still checking on the price and so on. and also testing on it. dunwan to bring in any product that is not reliable or not stable lo...later my client will curse on me. haha... biggrin.gif

but based on my rough calculation, for a AV room set up, automate the lighting, curtain, air con and so on...will cost less than 10k for the product, but not sure for the installation. sad.gif

btw over in malaysia, is there any AV shop that familiar with doing this kind of system huh?like setting up the HT room

Flac music files work icon_rolleyes.gif

SKY - When i bought my system, the guy from CJ Audio is coming over to setup my speakers to the receiver for free thumbup.gif When i bought my Receiver from Legend i had to pay for them to come over to setup my speakers shakehead.gif I should have gotten the people from Yamaha to come as they would know how to setup better.

Moogle, I'm not that familiar with Popcorn Hour but I have to say it's a bit of a waste based on the AV receiver and speakers that you now have, if you're not using a better source like a proper DVD/Blu-ray player.

I agree that using the PS3 to play an original Blue Ray movie disc to get MA DTS, HD DTS would be the very best solution.

It is possible to download such things online however i think such things would be 10 gig + or something biggrin.gif

I am currently downloading 4 gig 720 p or 8 gig 1080p blueray rips doh.gif I will check online and see if i can find any HD DTS or MA DTS videos to download.

But for Music i think popcorn can stream via HDMI to the Receiver so the quality should be fine right ? The FLAC are lossless encoded with EAC brows.gif

1. Fix a screen, install curtain trail at the ceiling few inches from the fixed screen. When not using the projector/screen, you can pull the curtain to hide and protect the screen from dust at the same time smile.gif there are many nice looking curtains out there that will add flavour to your living room smile.gif

or secondly, a motorized screen (last choice as rolling up the screen will cause - alun - tongue.gif )

moogle,so tat u know, even if u found the exact rip of bluray with dolby trueHD or even dts hd ma, ur popcorn hour stil cantbitstream it, u will be stuck with legacy DD or DTS only
*
Aiyah can lah.

Flac is playable from popcorn streaming no problem there. Flac is lossless so should be comparable to an actual disc nod.gif

As for HD DTS and MA DTS yes so far no pass through yet .... I am fine with DTS, AC3 or AAC. And hopefully soon OGM. I did my research before i bought.

I could use PS3 to stream a media with HD MA, HD DTS as PS3 can decode them nod.gif My system quite flexible if you are bothered to take the time to set it up.

The reason why it's called budget system is because my media is free rclxms.gif cauz thats what i can afford. When BD prices drop to MORE REASONABLE PRICES then can buy loh flex.gif

Until then 720p 1080p bluray rips for the win thumbup.gif

Anyway i got a suggestion, Mega you bring your bluray discs and we can watch together on my new pesant home theatre system thumbup.gif win win !

Media streamer is still not yet 100% do it all.

For things it can do, you remux and convert to a playable format. This is only solution now.

I think the new Sigma Design chip devices that come after popcorn will be able to support or pass through MA DTS and HD DTS.

I posted an article somewhere about it.

If popcorn cannot do MA DTS, or HD DTS, then use PS 3 to stream it loh. If the format not supported just REMUX/RE-encode the video but keep the audio track as is loh laugh.gif

I am talking about future hardware devices LIKE popcorn, that will be using the new Sigma Designs chip that supports sata, MA DTS, and HD DTS. As for whether the chip does 1.3 hdmi i am not sure you will need to see the specs yourself doh.gif

Rx i am using a software called Audio Converter by Heartware. He made a thread under a thread there for user made applications.

It's only good for MKV by the way ....

Anyway it videos audio tracks such as Vorbis, DTS to AAC or AC3, and automatically remux it biggrin.gif There is also an option to keep the original track in addition to the newly converted audio track !!

However for what we were talking about were videos with audio tracks such as dts hd ma or dts hr audio. For these videos, we need to make sure the video format is playable by playstation 3, if not then have to convert to a format that it supports while retaining the original audio tracks that are playable by PS3.

I am unsure whether PS3 supports MKV container or not ..... but i do know it supports H264 codec o_O: correct me if i am wrong.

So i think it would be better to convert the video to h264 video encode, with original DTS MA/ DTS HR Audio, and put into a MP4 container.

What do you think biggrin.gif

Ok anyway BACK TO TOPIC.

My layout of my theater will look like this.

The center speaker will be on a wall shelf slightly above my HDTV.

The front left and right BR 5 floor stander speakers will be at the sides of the HDTV table.

The surround speakers will be on the wall slightly above our head level when we are sitting. I heard bipolar/dipole speaker setup doesn't require the speaker to be directly facing you to get the surround effect so i hope that is true doh.gif Can surround speakers be at the back of you ? Or must they be beside you ??? hmm.gif

S750 Sub Woofer undecided yet where to put since running out of space rclxub.gif

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/Cer...us/IMG_0036.jpg

My BR5 floor standing speakers with the BR-LCR on the wall shelf i bought from Ikea. Tucked in the left corner is my Creative S750 Gigaworks subwoofer.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/Cer...us/IMG_0027.jpg

This is my left BR-FX surround speaker mounted on the wall

This is the left BR-FX behind the wall where we hid the wiring and put under the rug to neaten it up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/Cer...us/IMG_0029.jpg

This is the right BR-FX which as you can see is hiding the cables behind the couch and is along the curtain rail.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/Cer...us/IMG_0034.jpg

The BR5, BR-LCR, BR-FX and the Rhodium wiring cables all total to RM 4.2 K :]

Anyway if you see from my setup, i have eliminated the need for a dvd player as dvd sources online are freely available. For blue ray i have 2 choices. Download 720p or 1080p blue ray rips online to watch over the popcorn, OR pop in a blue ray disc into my PS3 to watch.

Popcorn makes my home theater media experience so much flexible and enjoyable laugh.gif

With my setup i got the following support which i tested and confirmed.

Videos:

H264

XVID

Containers

MKV

AVI

Audio:

AC3

DTS

AAC 24000 hz

AAC 48000 hz

MP3

WMA Pro

Mpeg 1 laugh.gif

Thanks. Yeah, I bought the LCD for RM9000 last year. I'm planning to add another back surround later. The rear sound field is not enough as my surround speaker is too small. Same goes to the center speaker.

This is the right BR-FX which as you can see is hiding the cables behind the couch and is along the curtain rail.

H264

XVID
Containers

MKV

AVI
Audio:

AC3

DTS

AAC 24000 hz

AAC 48000 hz

Wood fittings is not that expensive, it depends on the material.... can be laminate or chipboard, etc.. It's just like kitchen cabinet calculation.

If you want no fuss kind, places like HARVEY NORMAN or MEDIAPLEX carry the standard AV wall cabinet setup (no need custom make) .... cost about 7+K, comes with nice lighting, glass/shelves, cabinets, etc.... you should go see for yourself at IKANO or KLCC.

Better calibrate your speakers' level.

If problem is not volume but clarity, could be speakers or wiring problem.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing now. Set the center & surround higher. However even though the sound is louder but the dialog is not so clear.

The popcornhour official website. I order online pay by credit card. Since i am in Malaysia they will ship from their outlet in China for the Asia region.

I however had to wait a whole month to get mine .... i wasn't taxed because i ask them to put it as a gift doh.gif

Anyway RX says he bought his from Penang, so maybe they have stock and can ship to you faster ? Not sure how much their asking for though hmm.gif

I paid around Rm 800 for mine ( shipping cost for courier UPS tallied into that ).

The popcorn A100 plays videos that use containers such as AVI and MKV that are pc formats meant for pc usage originally.

If you have an original blueray disc and an internal blue ray drive for your pc, you can encode it to H264 and put into a MKV container using AUTOMKV which is the program i recommend for that. There is a popcorn A100 profile in AUTOMKV latest beta by the way :] to gurantee your encode will play smoothly on the popcorn.

Instead of blueray sources, you could also choose to do the same for DVD disc sources nod.gif

Either you buy a display cabinet & mount the TV on the cabinet or conceal the wire in the wall.

Yep, get a cabinet which has concealed backing to hide wires behind. Your cabinet doesn't have backing panels. Or get those big art panels to hide the back, you can find in bookshops or stationary shops, comes in different colors..cheap

As for your mounted plasma, maybe can use those wire casing or tubing for better display.

Change yammy 461 to 663. Change Philips 5986K to Pioneer DAV600AV. Change 5 yammy speakers to PSB. Still using yammy sub coz its good enuf.

The best part is I took out the top drawer and the new center speaker fit nicely inside it laugh.gif

actually it is meant for music. Movie ok lor as bookshelf has limitation in bass and freq bandwidth. Then again, the sub can always take over the job.

Yep the front floorstander is Alpha T1. The bass is good and acceptable even without my sub turn on (or if I use Pure Direct mode).

The bookshelf Alpha B1 I use for my surround.

Yup, seen that. Very cheap considering it's got 3 HDMI in, and accepts multi-channel PCM. Listened to it at KLCC Sony Style, not bad. But it's not real HTiB, because it's not a disc player.

So those who already have a HDMI DVD player, this will be a good match. It is especially a good match for PS3 too, by accepting multi-channel PCM you'll get to hear lossless audio because PS3 already decodes everything for it.

Very recommended for PS3 owners who never gonna get separate components for your home theater. thumbup.gif

or add a bit more and prob u can get an hd65 too tongue.gif

Alright. About the lamp, how long roughly will it last. Am using it probably, 5 - 10 hours per day? And heard that the lamp is costly... 70% of the projector?

Just read that, lamp can last for 2000 hours.

hd65 lamp is about rm600...not so bad eh?

infocus - lamp normally cost rm1k+

dell multimedia pj...lamp quite cheap...rm700+..

so take your pick

trust me...if ur the normal working guy who watch your pj only on weekends...2000 hours is a long time...putting on eco mode lengthen it's life too

actually my old 4805's lamp life barely touched 200 hours even though i had it for 1 year...but if u r the type who watch everything on tv with the pj, of course lamp life can kaput sooner.

Heard some guys in the US reached 4000 hours with their 4805...damn good innit?

hope my hd65's lamp could reach at least 3000 hours...

Nope, the cost of the lamp is abt 15% of the pj itself (HD65) only.

and which infocus model is this? dlp right? nice pics btw, despite it being a non HT pj - does it have the faroudja processor? I used to use a dell 2200mp pj as my dvd ht pj...not too bad actually for a starter system.

First education to children very important.

Never touch daddy's speakers. mad.gif
Do not stick your ears on daddy's speakers. mad.gif
Do not sit on daddy's subwoofer. mad.gif
Always use remote control (which all wrapped in plastic tongue.gif ).
Don't forget to switch off daddy's amp, daddy's DVD player and daddy's TV when done watching movies.
Do not stand in front of daddy's TV. mad.gif

The key word is "daddy" so they don't want daddy to scold them if anything happen to daddy's stuff.

So far so good laugh.gif laugh.gif

Only one rule to HM while watching movies....stop asking what will happen next! vmad.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Yeah that one also. My daughter like to put her hand inside the round bass port when I use Yammy sub but she can't do that anymore with my 10R since the bass port is flat at the bottom. So one rule obsolete for me laugh.gif

Got surround speaker stand from A&L Amcorp. Its 42" in height and cost RM180 per pair. Construction is all metal with spike feet. The pole is hollow and can be filled with sand or whatever fancies you. Here's some eye candy... tongue.gif

hole to fill sand before attach the top plate
[attachmentid=550748] better now since its not block by the couch thumbup.gif

All parts bottom plate, pole and top plate connect together with one large hex head screw respectively.

Yeah kind of worried me also but I tell you the spike kind of "dig in" to the marble but without any marking. Its hard to push the stand when the spikes leveled. Same goes to my speakers with spikes. Not easy to push.

Other sifu should answer what are the spikes for. I can't recall but got to do with something musical tongue.gif

Something do to with 'sound resonance' I think. Read about it long long time ago! But IMHO speaker on spike look better & 'high tech'! He! He! U can tell ur visitor ' This speaker very very expensive! See got spike! So don't touch it!' tongue.gif

i guess to absorb any 'vibration' from the speaker to the floor and vice-versa. you may try to buy 'carpet' that comes in pieces and place the speaker on top. thumbup.gif

Exactly what my HM suggest. My carpet from HN will arrive soon so need to go and look for something that match the color. Anyway, personally I think no problem leaving the spikes on marble. Kind of stable and holding well.

If u need shorter one than don't get this one la. Get yourself a nice 36" wooden stand. This one is for people who want their speaker high but don't want or can't wall mount them. Yeah I always deal with Alex Song. I ask him whether he still got or not after I bought one and he said still have. Quite heavy but I get him to carry the box to my car tongue.gif

The sub is 12" unit. The company closed down abt a decade ago during economy crisis. Decent enough as it goes as low as 25Hz with 115W power. Long throw unit port in front.

The floorstanders are Klipsch with Tractrix horn tweeter. It comes with a 10" woofer and a 10" passive radiator. So, the bass would not be hard hitting. Mellow deep bass.

Finally watched TDk last week, after being blackmailed by my mob friend (he gave me an offer I can't refuse, laugh.gif ). My God, ever since I know blu-ray, I'm impressed with the black level, even with my LCD, now imagine a plasma.

The projection at the cinema was really bad. Blacks become gray, the dark scenes were just terrible. It's a shame seeing that for such a great movie. I came back and compare again with the 6 minute preview on the Batman Begins BD, no where near. The preview is one of the best PQ I've seen on BD.

So, my question to the projector owners, how's the black level? Is it a non-issue with the modern HD projectors?

That too. Especially on big screen with interlaced 1080i/60. I guess it can be reduced if the projector supports 1080p/24. hmm.gif

1080P/24fps is abt motion juddering. Ghosting is due to poor response time. Even if the display able to accept 1080p/24fps signal will have ghosting problem if its response time is slow.

noway near the budget for projector yet sadly.. after sub, im going for surrounds then im going to upgrade avr.. but im not sure on this.. mix feelings now.. either get a better avr (denon 4308ci) or just use my 663 as a preamp and just get myself a poweramp (no idea which one yet but probably marantz). which is better??

Attached Image Hi guys... promised a look at the system i had setup over the weekend so here's a preview of it. Note that this is just temporary until i move into my condo in Dec. The system is made up of PS3 + Onkyo 875 + Canton Chrono 5.1 + Samsung ordinary TV (to be replaced in Dec) + jack sparrow DVD player(for the wife). Camera couldn't capture whole area so just took half a pic tongue.gif

The sound for movies & gaming is absolutely fantastic. Clear, dynamic, full bodied, base is solid. Tried on a couple of CDs and sound was very good for pop contemporary R&B music but base was a little too strong for country songs.

Will post again when system is fully setup in Dec & all feedbacks welcomed. Cheers.

i know.. canton sounds like cantonese hence chinese ya?? hehe.. but they're german speakers la. I liked these because they come in piano black front surface (to go with rest of system i.e. display, ps3, my hari.. etc), & i loved the alluminium drivers & of coz, sound was great & price was reasonable.

Anyway, I'm a Yammy fan so not getting 875. Plus I will not betray my master and turn to dark side tongue.gif

I think the CD quality is only 128kbps, that's why 320kbps MP3 should be better than CD. Can anyone confirm this?

What you see here....
Rear speakers are 'mobile' units, i.e; put to the sides only when watching a real 5.1.
BD Source: HDMI to LCD, Optical to Receiver.
MediaCentre: HDMI to LCD, sound to Receiver through TV input doh.gif. Vista Home Edition, 2 GB RAM, 1 TB HD, XFX Video card. Full multimedia with skype+cam to kacau my kids when I'm at work.
Astro: S-Video to LCD, RCA split to LCD and Receiver. Composite out to MediaCentre for recording.
Others: Linksys NAS (500GB storage), Panasonic 'CCTV' with modem+router hardly switched off.

My very very humble set-up.

1. 32" 720p Sharp LCD LC32BX5M

2. Yamaha RX-V540 6.1 Channel AVR.

3. Yamaha P610 Speaker Set Consisting of:
4x NS-10MMT
1x NS-C10MM
1x YST-SW45

4. Sharp BD-HP20A Blu-Ray Player

5. Philips DVP-5996/98K HDMI DVD Player

6. Astro - Thompson Type.

Let me tell you I immensely enjoy my set-up. The NS-610 speaker set may look small but it delivers very good sound from it and coupled with the RX-V540, it can shake the ceiling. The RX-V540 is an ageing AVR. No HDMI and it's a 6.1 channel AVR. One Coaxial (Philips 5996 - no Optical out from this player) and 3 Optical (1 used by the Sharp BD-HP20A).

The NS-610 is also as old as the AVR. Bought together during a KL AVSHOW like 5 years back.

Video from DVP-5996 and BD-HP20A is via HDMI direct to the LCD TV. Astro is connected via S-Video to LCD TV.

Some of you may question my choice of getting the Sharp BD-HP20A Blu-Ray player. But I got this for cheap. I know it's not THE BEST player (heck its even a Profile 1.0 player) but playing it on my Sharp 32" is superb. Excellent picture quality! You won't guess how much I got the Sharp BD-HP20A for....

RM800. smile.gif It's even cheaper than a PS3 and I don't play game. So it was damn worth it. Some of my audiophile friends told me, at RM800 I'm an idiot if I did not grab it. In fact one of them said if I don't buy it he's going to grab it and use it as his second BD player. He already have a Pioneer BDP-LX70A(click to read about the player) player which I think cost around RM6K+.

The Philips DBP-5996 is LITERALLY TWO DAYS OLD. It replaced my faithful DVP-640K after 4 years. After the 640K started to get flaky (after hundreds and hundreds of hours of playtime its about time too) I decided to change to the 5996 after reading through Lowyat.net Audiophile subforum.

#4. Coming to 5 years old but have served me so so well and still in immaculate condition. smile.gif I take care of my stuff. Great sounds from it too.

great setup there, Exarkun, nice n clean.

Just wondering, do you put the sub on the console just to take pic, or is it there all along? doesnt it vibrates against the wood console?

also, custom made console?

The sub has been there all along. Under the subs are foam pads to absorb the vibration. I decided to place it there instead of on the floor, because firstly there is not enough space to the left and right of the console for the sub. Secondly it's a front firing sub so it don't really matter. If I got a floor firing one, then I have to put it down. smile.gif

And yes it's a custom made console done while doing renovation to the house before moving in. The wood is kinda solid. smile.gif

Actually, I'm targetting the v663 to replace my v540. Just waiting for a good deal on it.

A bit sad of letting go of the v540 though. It is a good amp and have served me very well. Still in good condition after 5 years.

wish i can do better with the wires at the back of the cabinet.....have to keep the back opened for ventilation. and no matter how i organize the cables..its still like vine jungle....

dude, nothing to envy about......

have to say i am proud that i did the installation myself....the brackets have been a big pain in the butt. those are concrete slab walls....not bricks.....it is much harder to drill. i actually broke one of the bolt in the wall......that was a hair-pulling experience.

getting the stuffs aligned and level was pain in the butt also. end up with other gadgets just to do all these.

check the sketch i did...hehehe....it is to scale....the thing hanging from the top were actually 2 hanging lights which i have since replaced with something shorter. this was done to make sure the position i wanted for the projector and the screen would line up

why cannot? i was more keen on the vogel, because i can mount the projector right way up...and the vogel looks better.....

yes, i saw your tvix thread.....have to wait for the thing to deliver first. and probably a few hair pulling experience while setting up before i can say anything.

nothing elite about this....the true elite would be like those you see in avsforum...those basement, in wall..bla bla setup...

oh, maybe i should take a picture of the TV's bracket. its actually on a swivel arm...hehehe...not that much use in terms of watching the thing, but it is sure useful when i need to access the back of the cabinet...like indiana jones go whacking in the vine jungle.

anyone interested in the screenshots of the pj? how to best capture the image?

thanks for the compliment. its not a dedicated theater, its the living room......dont have spare room in my tiny pad.

the PS2 is gathering dust, not the PS3...though its not often used also.

i've heard that ppl wants 60GB PS3 and willing to pay crazy money for it.

the projector or the bracket?

both are available online. the bracket's info is on sms.safebrackets.se
google for vogel they have nicer bracket...i wanted to use that but this epson's mounting holes are too far apart from each other.

Added on August 29, 2008, 8:12 pmby the way, anyone here use the Panasonic PT-AE2000 projector? that was the other choice before i decide on this Epson. Of course the JVC RS2 is THE projector to get, but at at 2.5x price of this.....just too painful to part with the $$.

Hey...
Thanks... I am looking for the bracket. So, you bought online? Sent to Malaysia?
I tried searching for sms.safebrackets.se and it seems many websites are posting it. Can give me more detail? I've just put up a shelve and it is ugly. So, I am thinking of taking it down and put this if it is not too expensive. I think I paid kinda hefty for that shelve I did. Haiz... nvm... as long as my house looks better.

i purchased this abroad...

SMS has close cooperation with Draper, maybe check the Draper supplier?

this SMS bracket also has the ceiling version. the unislide (the part with the 4 arms) is purchased separately.

check out this one..this EPW6565 is cheaper than SMS
www.vogels.com/pages/consumer/products/placement.aspx?classification=84

prices for these are abt 160euro for the vogel, about 200euro for the SMS

New toy...Panasonic TX-32LX800MK
[attachmentid=604118]

Got it from Mr. iamsobloodysick. Free hdmi cable, car sunscreen and trunk organizer. Very smooth deal. Put order yesterday, delivered to my house today. Can't be better than that. Recommended seller thumbup.gif

Only 32" for my bedroom so nothing to brag like 50" plasma tongue.gif. Currently connected is astro thru cap ayam s-video cable rolleyes.gif , cap ayam dvdp from carrefour using cap ayam component cable rolleyes.gif and my trusted PC using vga cable.

First impression PQ can't beat my sony 40" but my sony all connected to high end gadgets with hdmi and very good cables all around. So wait till I get my hand on proper cables before passing final judgment.

Actually BD player is on top of my list but somehow I got another lcd tv first doh.gif ...duh rolleyes.gif

If I have a nice pad and a big HT room, I will definitely buy a popcorn machine. Install curtain to cover the screen. When I pop in the BD, the curtain will automatically open, and light will dim automatically

well thought out list there bmipp, and i say this as u've included LG, as most will probably not include LG due to some stereotypes, but infact some of LG's stuff is quite good.. kk now on to ur q, from your list, the Pioneer wins on looks.. however the machine is quite weak in total (360watt only).. with the other two doing 1000w..

now with ur budget in mind, may i suggest a 4th option? LG HT762TZ http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/home-cinema-systems/lg-ht762tz/

now this htib is not only favoured, but also got selected to be the best htib in wired magazine this year. i have this one and honestly, its one of the clearest sound ive ever heard from an htib..

yeah those 1:1 screens are meant for multimedia presentation. those hifi stores would definitely have these retractable screens. if your 8'x8' is a fixed screen...there's no way any car can fit...unless you have a pickup truck or a van. my draper just fit into my car...

Retractable screen is cool if u get de powered ones n it cums down from de ceilin .. but u r rite retractable screens normally hv 'tension' prblms later - waves n all tat..

indeed, my cheap draper already showing the V-wave. wrapping is common with retractable screen. but i have no choice...no spare room to use and i still need the TV in the same room. its warranted against wrapping....so i am bringing it back one of these days....after the warranty expire...i am not sure what's the next course of action.

Thanks for de compliments but my screen is elcheapo diy la.. no brand chap ayam wan..

Retractable screen is cool if u get de powered ones n it cums down from de ceilin .. but u r rite retractable screens normally hv 'tension' prblms later - waves n all tat..

Thanks for the info.

I just checked from the LG web site, and it stated that this model does come along with wireless features. Do you have any idea of this? rclxub.gif

I am a new user, just start to plan to get a new HT system. A lot of HT feature still unsure. tongue.gif

Hi Bro, thanks for the info...... biggrin.gif

Hmm, confusing of choosing which HT model, for the usage of PS3 and DVD. I have read through the magazine web site, but still can not get one. sweat.gif

By the way, do you have any idea or recommended of HT model with the budget of RM 1.8K............ notworthy.gif

indeed, my cheap draper already showing the V-wave. wrapping is common with retractable screen. but i have no choice...no spare room to use and i still need the TV in the same room. its warranted against wrapping....so i am bringing it back one of these days....after the warranty expire...i am not sure what's the next course of action.
*
You can try tensioned screen if you really have no choice. I just go for fixed screen and wouldn't look back.

Thanks for the recommendation and also the price.
Are you in Penang as well, mind to let known where do you bought it with this price? i saw some other places are selling more expensive. RM1700 is relatively nice compared to Panansonic PT850.
