5. Philips DVP-5996/98K HDMI DVD Player
6. Astro - Thompson Type.
Let me tell you I immensely enjoy my set-up. The NS-610 speaker set may look small but it delivers very good sound from it and coupled with the RX-V540, it can shake the ceiling. The RX-V540 is an ageing AVR. No HDMI and it's a 6.1 channel AVR. One Coaxial (Philips 5996 - no Optical out from this player) and 3 Optical (1 used by the Sharp BD-HP20A).
The NS-610 is also as old as the AVR. Bought together during a KL AVSHOW like 5 years back.
Video from DVP-5996 and BD-HP20A is via HDMI direct to the LCD TV. Astro is connected via S-Video to LCD TV.
Some of you may question my choice of getting the Sharp BD-HP20A Blu-Ray player. But I got this for cheap. I know it's not THE BEST player (heck its even a Profile 1.0 player) but playing it on my Sharp 32" is superb. Excellent picture quality! You won't guess how much I got the Sharp BD-HP20A for....
RM800.
The Philips DBP-5996 is LITERALLY TWO DAYS OLD. It replaced my faithful DVP-640K after 4 years. After the 640K started to get flaky (after hundreds and hundreds of hours of playtime its about time too) I decided to change to the 5996 after reading through Lowyat.net Audiophile subforum.
