Nice. That center speaker can try hiding behind the tv (push tv towards the front)

Difference between 1080i or 720p, best be seen using test pattterns. If use movie images, very subjective.

Surround sound should be at the back if got space.... just like cinema.

For sub, can be anywhere but best u try few positions eg. front (normal position), side, back.

Wood fittings is not that expensive, it depends on the material.... can be laminate or chipboard, etc.. It's just like kitchen cabinet calculation.

If you want no fuss kind, places like HARVEY NORMAN or MEDIAPLEX carry the standard AV wall cabinet setup (no need custom make) .... cost about 7+K, comes with nice lighting, glass/shelves, cabinets, etc.... you should go see for yourself at IKANO or KLCC.

Better calibrate your speakers' level.

If problem is not volume but clarity, could be speakers or wiring problem.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing now. Set the center & surround higher. However even though the sound is louder but the dialog is not so clear.

Yep, get a cabinet which has concealed backing to hide wires behind. Your cabinet doesn't have backing panels. Or get those big art panels to hide the back, you can find in bookshops or stationary shops, comes in different colors..cheap

As for your mounted plasma, maybe can use those wire casing or tubing for better display.
