Checklist when collecting your K5.
1. Check the accessories (Lighter, Ashtray Cup, iPod cable, tools in the trunk).
2. Service Book and Manual.
3. Check for dents and scratches (Interior and exterior).
4. Check the details in the grant and insurance.
5. Check the coolant, hydraulics and engine oil level.
6. Check the switches.
7. Check the tyre pressure. New K5 always over inflate. (Please make sure front 33psi back 32psi)
8. Check the fuel level.


Vehicle Break-In Process.
No special break-in period is needed. By folowing a few simple precaustion for the first 600 miles (1,000 km) you may add to the performance, economy and life of your vehicle.
• Do not race the engine
• While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000rpm.
• Do not maintain a single speed for long periods of time, either fast or slow. Varying engine speed is needed to perperly break-in the engine.
• Avoid hard stops, except in emergencies, to allow the brakes to seat properly.
• Don't let the engine idle longer than 3 minutes at one time.
• Don't tow a traler during the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km) of operation.

I know tedious work, just my suggestion. Coz i tot, some interested person might want to have a easy-to-find-list when deciding to buy k5 or not.

Erm.. this may sound weird, but can someone let me know what is a vehicle break-in process means?

I just got my warranty terms but its not very clear. The exceptions reveal something but then again leaves some questions unanswered. I think we need to check and clarify directly with Naza Kia HQ.

Its about ensuring all your moving parts in the engine are sufficiently worked to get optimum long term performance. Breaking in the car doesnt mean driving slow. You can still go as fast as 140kmph but most importantly is you must not go for high rev's or hard braking. Everything must be gentle & gradual for the first 1,000km at least.

In the warranty statement above it says that the vehicle is covered by warranty claims agains manufacturing defects. Take for example the radiator which one of the items mentioned in the list of items covered. It is quite normal for the radiator to develop leaks/problems as a result of wear & tear. If a leak occurs when the car is 4.5 years old, will Kia be obliged to change it for FOC ? Same applies for other similar parts as well.

The reason I would like to be as clear as possible about this is to protect the owner against the possible ignorance of the Service centers etc.

Based on my personal experience so far, Naza Kia is not particular about warranty terms. Even if a part is not under warranty, they feel obliged to change. I think they are more concerned about negative feedback.

had my car pull-to-left attended to just now. They did alignment for me for free, even though i clocked ~7000km. For now, steering is straight, will wait n see

I have been fascinated with the K5 from the first day I laid eyes on it. I have very rarely taken to a car the way that I have been with it. The T, H and N pales in comparison to its great looks.

There are only a couple of units in Kluang, Johor where I live and they are real head-turners.

I am still waiting for a car to be available to test drive. Will then place an order for the white color one. Am told that the waiting period is now 2-3 weeks but knowing the SA, I will only believe it when I see it.

I've spent quite a bit of time reading all the posts from V2 onwards and I get a very positive feeling from all of it. Thanks for sharing all the info and your experience.

The more they do this the happier i am cuz it shows just how threatened these ppl are by the K5. It really goes to show, that the K5 is really giving the Japs a run for their money. The sales are starting to show and although they may not be on par but slowly the Jap pie is being eroded by not only the Koreans but also VW.

I think its YOU who needs to do some reading. Ahead of Its Class was not our words silly. Its the caption for the car. Ask Kia Korea that question and maybe they'll be able to give u an answer.

And no the K5 is not perfect and it surely isnt the best d segment out there but Kia has come a long way and its partly because of the Koreans that everybody is getting more affordable cars with better spces these days. Its all about competition and we the end user stands to gain regardless of the car we drive. None of us have ever claimed its the best car and so kindly refrain from such assumptions.

Ure free to pass comments (good or otherwise) about the Optima in this thread and we welcome mature discussions. Just ensure its mature. Maybe we'll even get to meet up over coffee some day.

I had this problem before. Because I send for Sierra Glow before, so I went back to him, wash and recoat... back to normal. Not to worry bro.

oh. shop business quite busy prior to raya. so i scheduled my car to after raya.

but will get the staff to polish it tmw.hopefully no need to do wet sanding.

Yes, is not smooth anymore. Anyway, washing the car is still as easy. like how u feel, I thought this Sierra Glow didn't really work. But last week I didn't wash my white color K5 for over a week, as u know, how bad it will look on a white color car. When I start spraying water, most of the dirt came off easily.

I did my Sierra Glow first day i got my car and is 1.5 months old now, meter has clock over 5000km, I drove to Kuantan and Melaka. I dunno is't me only, I don't really see any stone chip on my front bumper and side mirror. Because of Sierra Glow? Maybe my car is still new. How about yours?

OK no problem. Maybe i should give Mr Choong a call then to check. Did u do a SG for your Inspira as well?

Besides Sierra Glow, is there any other alternative?
I'm thinking of doing it for my K5 but then I was just looking for other alternative if available.

Well my i got my car end April and did my Sierra Glow early May. My car has clocked 10,000km now. About to go for 2nd service this week.

Yes washing and cleaning is very easy and dirt doesnt stick. My color is silver and sometimes i go for 3 weeks before washing and the car still looks good. But thats the advantage of silver i guess not really the SG. As for the stone chips, ive had a few on my front bumper despite all my care in not following heavy vehicles. But i drive alot on the NSE (weekly). I dont think the SG helps much with this. Im quite sure ill need to respray the bumper at some point.

Added on August 15, 2012, 9:13 amSG is still the cheapest option out there. For RM700 and a 5 year warranty, i guess its a good deal. Others that i checked were all 2,000 and above and most came with much lesser warranty periods. So even if the SG lasts only 3 years, its still a good deal. But u should get it done ASAP before your paint starts to wear.

Thanks for the information. I was told not to wax the car and I did it the other day (sigh!). Maybe I should drop an e-mail to Sierra Glow and see when is the quickest date I could do it. Afterall, all CBU cars were left out in the sun for some time, therefore I agree with you that it should be done quicker.

Yes u should not have waxed. SG works best when its applied to new paint surfaces. Anyway, just give Mr Choong a call and set the appointment. But make sure u tell him you have already done waxing on the car.

nope.. but other guys did.. i'm not that particular with cars (performance, ice, accessories etc.).. let alone washing it as often as some of em out there.. and true, silver coloured car is good at hiding them dirt

Yes im North bound too from KL. I dont believe in mods or any of that. I just maintain the car (body, engine, interior). My previous 2003 Vios body paint was still shiny and nice despite being 9 yrs old. Interior also spotless and no stains anywhere. I only wash once in 2 weeks or so.

If I have done waxing on the car, what would Mr Choong be doing? Remove whatever is on top and then only do the Sierra Glow? Just curious so that I know what to be expecting when I speak to Mr Choong.

If I am not mistken, they will clean the existing wax. Anyway, call up Mr. Choong first to book an appoitment.

Removed! Without polishing. Just a certain mixture of tar remover and turpentine. Clear coat not affected.

i tot there is only places recommended to install it locally. If im not mistaken, RM450. never came across group buy in FB. Well, i oso occasionally log into FB and i browse through K5 page. Maybe i overlooked. How much cheaper if group buy?

I have already received mine. from the instruction manual, it looks like we need to remove the bumper to install it. DAMM!!!

well, u gonna have to re-wire the fog lamp(current) to normal nightlamp plus brake light if u intend to put the one u purchased(full strip taillight). And of course the rear foglamp at the steering toggle.

Yes, someone actually ordered from Jayong Mall just the inner part for about 350USD. That one have to speacial order, email to Jayong Mall.

I am also interested in the full tail lights trip. But I don't see the point in buying the full set of light. Currently trying to work out from a contact to purchase both the left and right inner tail light only.. Hope to get a good deal. Then I ll get someone to fix it for me..

Just noticed that there is no separate Front position lamp available, instead the DRL lamps will be dimmed like 50% when the Light knob is turned to the Parking light position. Are yours also the same?

Just did my 1k km service last week. Notice that the engine is abnormally noisy for few minutes when ignited early in the morning. Anything wrong with this and any of you guys encounter this??!

Yes thats normal. But once its fully warmed up, the noise is barely noticeable which is quite good.

Parking lights? Does the K5 have any parking lights since they already have DRL's. Fog lamps yes.

Kinda agree but not as Ah Beng as another guy who posted pics of his rims before. But i think these rims would have looked better if it had been a bit thicker. But i still prefer the stock rims. Very different from any other car on the road today. Really stands out and goes well with the overall look of the car. Makes the car look bigger and sleeker.

Did you replace the full set of lights or just did rewiring? If so how much the total cost and where did you do it? Does the rear fog lights still work now?

Only replace the inner lights. When plug and play, only tail light lights up. I have to add on one more wiring to make it function for brake light. Fog light still function.

I have to admit that..maybe slightly ah beng but not that level 40 ah beng ..'suam2 kuku' saja..just trying something new..besides CM saying its less ah beng my frens also saying it..hopefully with lighter rims will give better FC and acceleration..i wish i can reduce that ugly space between the tire and the arch..perhaps lowered spring

i think he meant tail light on as per nite drive ie when toggle switch one or 2 notch. But currently the brake light function still not working, have to do wiring.
